Going Solo
It’s always nice to finish work early, even nicer when a trip awaits. Thursday morning I was minding three little ones, by nighttime, I found myself in Bologna, a beautiful city in the north of Italy. Although I know spag bol doesn’t come from Bologna, I was craving a lovely plate of pasta. As soon as I dropped my bags at the Airbnb and had a quick shower, I went out to the city centre on the look out for my perfect plate of pasta. Being highly indecisive and also wanting to minimise cost, I ended up spending an hour and a bit before I sat down in the back room of La Traviata, a restaurant recommended on lonely planet, or some other trusted travel websites. And because by the time I got to the restaurant, I was starving. I promised myself that no matter how much it cost, I’d sit down and finally have my evening meal, at nine o’clock.
The place was sophisticated and quiet, which should’ve been a sign - seeing I am a budget traveller, not one to splurge and definitely not on a plate of pasta. Hunger has taken over my senses and I almost immediately regretted it as soon as I opened the menu. €11 for a tagliatelle al ragu = fancy spag bol. It was the cheapest thing on the menu so I hurriedly placed my order, without wine or water. Why isn’t tap water an option?!
The €11 was rich in flavour but smaller than I was expecting, given the price tag. As my friend pointed out, it looked like five strands of pasta. And it felt like it. I wanted more. I am no pasta connoisseur and I don’t know what a proper tagliatelle al ragu taste like but it was delicious, might have been a little on the salty side but delicious nonetheless.
Water costs in most Italian restaurants. Also, they charge you for service, and it doesn’t seem to be discretionary either. (I paid €3 for them to bring me my plate of pasta just to take it away five minutes later)
1/3/2019, Friday
As I do in every city I visit, I booked onto a free walking tour to acquaint myself with the city and its history. Since Sandeman don’t organise walking tours in Bologna, I went for the JM Walking Tour, which turns out to be a charity for people in wheelchairs, since Italian roads are not very wheelchair friendly. The tour was, as always, informative and ticked off most places I had dotted on my list of things to see.
Having seen most of the city centre, I spent over an hour after lunch navigating my way to the famous San Luca, a basilica church on top of the hill. Honestly, what would I do without it and how did people live back than before google map was invented?
At first, the Ali seemed ok, all straight roads, although for some reason google maps led me to an old neighbourhood rather than the start of the 666 arches that takes you straight from the city centre to the hill. Clothes were coming off later by layer as the walk continued.
I’m sat here now at the top of San Luca, looking directly at the church on the hill, bright orange, with a bit of yellow and a bit of brown but nothing else. I suppose the fact they build this on the hill is pretty amazing by other than that, I’m not sure if I’ll ever climb all the way up here again.
Of course, classic me, I chose the foggiest day to come to this place where people come here for nothing but the view, which I now can barely see. The tour guide did say come in the evening when it’s dark but as a solo female traveller who can never be mistaken as a local, I’d rather play it safe and come up here earlier when it’s still bright. Also, since I have basically seen all of Bologna today - I had no idea it was this small! - I thought I could spend tomorrow at another city nearby, possible Ferrara, since it’s the closest one by train - only 30-50 minutes away.
Although not as tiring as the walk up hill, my walk back to the city centre took about the same amount of time. It’s interesting and relaxing to walk in one direction for such a prolonged period of time without your earphones plugged in and the top 40 chart music filling your head. You hear people you walk pass talking in different languages, with different voices. One lady spoke like she was signing the opera but I’m pretty sure that was her normal voice. You hear the lucky badgers in the vehicular next to you, speaking down that hill in a quarter of the time it takes for you to tread down, dogs barking behind the gates, birds chirping even at 5pm and others walking with heavy steps.
As I continued following the arches, I fantasied about the gelato I’m going to have. Lucky for me, as if it was meant to be, the path I was on let me straight to Cremeria Santo Stefano, a gelato shop that was highly recommended on most lists online. For €3,50, I had a taste of heaven in three different flavours. I bloody deserved it.
Still hungry, I walked around the same area of Piazza Maggiore for about an hour and still had not decided on a place for aperitivo. Finally, my stomach rambled so aggressively, giving me the permission to spend money I would otherwise save up. I walked into one do the restaurants I stumbled upon last night but decided against for reasons I no longer remember.
I sat down and ordered a frozen daiquiri and got up and loaded my plate with food. The joy of Aperitivo. Buy a drink and get unlimited supply of food for free. With a full plate in hand, I headed back towards my place to find a perfectly round pizza that I had not ordered in front of me.
“Gratuito” said the man at the table to my left.
“Free?” I tried to confirm, to which the lady next to him nodded. I happily tucked into my added freebie.
As I ate, my stomach seem to open it’s mouth wider, keeping me up on my feet every two minutes to get more food, leaving my drink unattended. A man sat next to me and started staring, making me extremely uncomfortable. At one point, he spoke to me, to which I shook my head to indicated my lack of understanding and my lack of interest in conversing with him. I tried to down a few more slices of my pizza but had left my drink untouched, worried it might have been spiked. (I know, I was probably overreacting and overdramatising the whole situation but better safe than sorry no?)
His gaze never left my direction, unless he got up and got food. (I know this sounds like some erotica but trust me, it was more of a thriller) How does one even eat properly without paying attention to his plate? I waited for him to do another round of food loading and got up, paid the bill and left hurriedly. Most of my daiquiri was left untouched, which was such a shame, such a waste. Italy really creeps me out sometimes. Me in this country is like my white friends in Vietnam. Honestly, I’m just trying to have a good time here, alone.

The voting for the Golden Globes is underway, concluding on December 6th. Ahead of the voting the 2020 Golden Globes Ambassadors were named: Dylan and Paris Brosnan, sons of Pierce and former journalist Keely Shaye-Smith.
Formerly known as Miss or Mister Golden Globes, the Golden Globes Ambassadors not only hand out the trophys, but use their platform to put a spotlight on charities and causes they support. The Brosnan Brothers are promoting childhood hunger and education. 2019's Golden Globe Ambassador, Isan Elba, daughter of Idris, promoted mental health in teens and in the African-American community.
This isn't Dylan and Paris' first foray into the spotlight. Though they are both film students, they have also modeled which is the equivalent of having a paper route or lemonade stand for celebrity offspring.
Some past Miss and Mister Golden Globes have gone on to their own acclaim.
Melanie Griffith (Miss Golden Globes 1975)
Melanie's daughter Dakota Johnson (2006)
Laura Dern (1982)
the very powdered Freddie Prinze Jr. (1996)
Looking towards the future, who should be the next Golden Globe Ambassadors?
Laura Dern's children Ellery and Jaya Harper and Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Philippe children Ava and Deacon?
Tilda Swinton's actress daughter Honor Swinton-Byrne (The Souvenir) or her son Xavier?
actor Micheál Richardson (Vox Lux), son of Liam Neeson and the late Natasha Richardson (Micheál recently legally changed his surname to honor his mother).
theatre actress Ella Loundon, daughter of Daniel Craig and Fiona Loudon?
model/actor Rafferty Law, son of Jude and Sadie Frost. Or their model daughter Iris?
Raff with his "Twist" (an updated version of Oliver Twist) castmates Rita Ora, Sophie Simnett, Lena Headey, Franz Drameh and Sir Michael Caine.
Stella Banderas, daughter of Melanie Griffith and Antonio.
true Hollywood royalty, Carys and Dylan Douglas, grandchildren of Kirk, children of Michael and Catherine Zeta Jones.
Lily Sheen, daughter of Michael and Kate Beckinsale
Kate and Michael - the coolest exes.
model/actor Damian Hurley, son of Elizabeth and Steve Bing?
And although his eldest son, actor Will (with Meg Tilly), at 29, is too old to be an ambassador
Colin, Meg and her sister Jennifer at Will's 2018 engagement party.
Colin and Livia Firth two teen musically inclined sons Luca and Matteo could have a go at it in a few years.
They have both performed at the music festival Isle of Wright (Luca solo and with a band, and drummer Matteo in a band).
Colin, Will and Matteo watching Luca.
Matteo with his bandmates.
It doesn't surprise me that Colin have musician sons.
Look at his long-haired rebel!

Hey, I just really like your block and would like to know you better. Is it okay if I ask you some questions? Like where are you from? What is your favourite colour? Are there any people on this platform you really like and why? Tell me one fact about you that people might not know. Would you like to live somewhere else in this world? Do you think you easily adapt certain habits or a certain thought process (like I tend to think I am someone from a show I like for example)?
Hi Anon! ☺️ And omg thank you for saying that, I'll try my best to answer these questions.
Where are you from?
I am from Asia, Thailand. More specifically from the North Eastern Region of Thailand which is referred to as "Isan." With a distinct dialect that is closer to Laos than central region dialects. Now, I just live in America. 🙃
What is your favourite colour?
It used to be pink a long LONG time ago but now I like black and blue because I look best in it. 💙🖤
Are there any people on this platform you really like and why?
Oh gosh, there are so many Anon. You might want to ask me on a separate ask (I'm not kidding lmao) there are SO many people I really like here that I follow and that are my mutuals and I have so many things to say about them. They are simply lovely people who will probably read this. 🤗💖💘💞 Love you guys!
Tell me one fact about you that people might not know.
I did ballet and tap dancing at one point in my life… Absolutely hated it. Nothing against the art of it, it's just not my cup of tea. 😅
Would you like to live somewhere else in this world?
YES! I would love to live in Japan or more realistically Seattle. Anywhere really but I have always been enthralled by the Japanese culture and language. I would love to study abroad but it's looking to be France or England as my choices.. 🤔
Do you think you easily adapt certain habits or a certain thought process?
Omfgg are you kidding!? This is the most ME Anon 🤣 literally when I started getting obsessed with Skam france, I legit started dressing more like Lucas Lallemant and Eliott Demaury. I even have the romance jacket like Lucas ajskkss💀 and for thought process, I usually quote from favorite characters like from Studio Ghibli films because it's so embedded into my brain 😫🥴
//
Anyways! Thank you for asking, I hope you've learned something about me and thanks again for liking my blog, I really appreciate it. Best wishes to you and I hope you have a wonderful day! 🤗🍀🌠
#hello long ass answers ive miss ya#lmaoo but yeah!#thank you very much anon#hope you will enjoy💫#curious anons#personal#ask response

La discografia è sterminata: oltre ai cinque album ufficiali “Rise And Fall of Academic Drifting” (2001), “Punk…

The Marlins did a good trade! They got three legitimate prospects back for Christian Yelich, and the fourth isn’t nothing, which makes this the best trade they’ve made in this cash-grab offseason.
Lewis Brinson, the #32 prospect in baseball for 2018, is a plus-plus defender in center with great bat speed and big raw power, with staying healthy his main problem so far in pro ball. He should be able to step in immediately to play center in Miami, which would also allow them to send Magneuris Sierra to the minors to continue developing as a hitter. Brinson’s swing can get long, and he’s going to strike out at a fairly high rate, but the ball comes off his bat extremely well and I think he’ll more than make up for the whiffs with extra-base power.
Which talented stars of tomorrow found a home on this year’s list?
• Top 100: Nos. 100-51 | 50-1 | Full list | Just missed | Top systems (Jan. 26) | Team-by-team (Starting Jan. 29).
Monte Harrison, the #85 prospect, had a breakout season as a prospect in low-A and high-A last year, shortening his swing to make better quality contact and more of it. He’s a plus runner who can play all three outfield spots, and has the power for a corner, with 21 homers last year, setting a new career high. His baseball instincts still aren’t great, as he was a football recruit to the University of Nebraska after starring in multiple sports in high school, so there may be further growth to come and there’s still some risk that he doesn’t get to enough of his power because of the strikeouts.
Isan Diaz’s year was disappointing after he slugged .469 and hit 20 homers in low-A in 2016, although he played with a hamate injury for part of 2017, eventually having surgery to repair a fracture at the end of August. He’s played shortstop in pro ball but he’s not a regular there, with much better defense at second base and the power to profile there. He did play much better in the Pan Am 23U qualifiers in November, showing glimpses of power again, and the Marlins may have done well to acquire him now while his value was temporarily low.
Jordan Yamamoto is a command and control right-hander who pitched very well in high-A last year at 21, but at just six feet tall he doesn’t get any plane on his fastball, making him flyball and potentially homer-prone. He comes from a lower slot that might pose platoon issues at higher levels, although that was not an issue in 2017.
In total, that’s two top 100 prospects plus a former top 100 prospect, or a potential above-average everyday centerfielder plus an above-average outfield prospect plus a solid-average or better second-base prospect plus a potential middle reliever in exchange for Christian Yelich and his very team-friendly contract. That seems like a good haul for the Fish, and very much what they needed after several deals that didn’t bring back enough baseball talent.
The Brewers got a great player on a great contract, though, so even though they gave up quite a bit of prospect value, I still think they did well in the deal. Yelich has averaged 4 WAR per year since his first season as a major-league regular, and would be an instant three-win upgrade over Keon Broxton in center. Milwaukee wasn’t that far out of contention last year, and while they still have a few holes to fill – first base was a weak spot after April, they could definitely use another starter – this was a sensible deal that helps them compete again in 2018 but has a lasting benefit well beyond this season, extending into the period where the Brewers’ top remaining prospects like Corbin Burnes, Keston Hiura, and Lucas Erceg will all be on the major-league roster as well.

Biglietti: 10 euro | 8 euro ridotto. Prevendite online: https://goo.gl/v6uJWp ). In apertura, i Giulia’s Mother.
La discografia è sterminata: oltre ai cinque album ufficiali “Rise And Fall of Academic Drifting” (2001), “Punk…
