Woke up to some GREAT news. My works have finally been delivered ready to be framed for my solo exhibition! The was a massive delivery delay due to to old mate covid, which had me panicking if they would be delivered and framed in time 😬. But I think we’ve just snuck in and will be able to somehow push forward with our original exhibition dates. This has been an absolute roller coaster of a journey with so many ups and downs and curveballs that it’s made me even more excited to share these works with you! . ASSIGNING SELF (2021) by ISABELLE DE KLEINE • Watercolour, gouache + acrylic on paper • Framed size: 156cm H x 126cm W • Framed in stained oak with Perspex Says Isabelle de Kleine of her work: “Society assigns identity based on external factors, such as gender, race, religion, beauty, etc. The artworks title ‘Assigning Self’ is about the differentiating the identity society places on us to our self assigned identity. This self constructed identity is beautiful and flawed. Complex and layered. In this work I wanted to focus on building textural elements and pattern to create depth and contrast. I combined earthy tones with strong pastel hues, and pattern with flat areas of colour to portray this complexity. This exhibition has been a long time coming- something that I have wanted to do since I was is in high school. But for me it was important to wait and refine my practice further, build experiences (both career wise and in my personal life) and found a kick-ass gallery that saw my vision too! . I feel really proud of what I have made for this show, and I hope you love it too! . This piece is one of my favourites.
