like guys i promise im aware blossomfall is meant to be a glass child. i just think she’s a poorly written one lmao
#tbh thats why my feelings on her are so strong. its a delicate topic for kids but time and time again#its been handled extremely poorly and just used as an excuse to hate disabled people#i think my exhaustion with these stories is bc they were sorta shoved down my throat by the school board growing up#because they heard ‘’wow you got TWO autistic brothers??? your life must SUCK ASS AND BALLS have this book abt how autism ruins families’’#wow cool i feel so much better guys. both about the ableism my family faces in general and about my undiagnosed autism#if i had to think. and i havent read this in forever so i could be misremembering. i think a decent example of a glass child trope#is the sister from ‘’wonder’’ (the book. idk what the movie did)#because while she’s an important character who struggles with internalized ableism#the focus is still on auggie and HIS struggles with his own disability and the ableism he faces as a result#and the sister isnt demonized for her feelings but she does still have to grapple with them#and accept her situation and that no one is at fault or anything. its just a consequence of an ableist society more than anything#again. been forever and ever since i read that book and iirc it does still have iffy shit like the one chapter on genetics#like to this day that sticks out as an uncomfortable chapter and idk if i can say its fantastic rep bc of that#but idk. i remember liking it fine as a kid#i always appreciated books that tried to get into multiple perspectives on the issues#also this is just me and ik it goes against the definition of the term#but man. kinda wish we’d get a glass child character thats also disabled and their disability is undiagnosed or ignored#for the sake of only prioritizing their sibling and bc they have to be ‘’the perfect abled child’’#because thats my story lol#wasnt allowed to be disabled or imperfect or need help because being a third disabled kid wouldve been too much

(im just a movie fan) ik u dont ship them bc u think they could/should end up together lmao but, do u really think paul x jessica is the most plausible incest ship in dune? bc personally as someone whos only watched the movie, it seems like paul, even before everything goes down, has a sort of unease towards his mother and the bene gesserit ways she pushes onto him (idk if im reading it completely wrong, its been a while since ive seen the first movie). and the resentment only increases in the second movie in a way where i wonder if paul will be able to even speak to her without screaming at her in movie 3 lol. although they did have some INSANE chemistry dont get me wrong.
on the other hand, i feel like paul, from the movies at least, has some level of devotion with Leto, and leto obvi loves his son the most in the world. and ive also come across these book excerpts ppl have been posting, and it seems like the paul/leto relationship is even deeper in the books bc from the excerpts it seems that leto makes a point to confide in paul to prepare for dukedom, which is like a responsibility only those two can understand with each other. and then i remember an excerpt i saw where paul is the last memory that leto remembers before his death, which i thought heartbreakingly sweet (does paul gain that memory after taking the water of life?). Paul just loved him soo much the fact that hes starting the holy war bc some part of him just wants his father back its like insane and a lot. anyway idek what i'm saying anymore just that all the relationships in this story are great and rife with potential.
last sentence really sums it up! all relationship dynamics are deeply compelling here! I don't think this boils down to with which parent paul had the objectively "better" relationship with tho. for me pauljessica is more interesting because well first of all we just get more time with them. more time to explore that tension speaking strictly from a movie pov here (because in the books jessica giving leto a son is framed more as a decision made out of love that echos down the millennia even 5k years later and less stemming from her desire to bring forth the kwisatz haderach even tho it certainly is also an element at play) that mary/jesus imagery is just so potent! bearing a son u will lose to the world to his destiny but on purpose!! u did this to him! u made that choice! u wanted to bear the saviour and u did! but he's ur child and u love him u love him more than anything but his path is set and u did this and now what. u prepare him u train him u make him so he'll survive because he is urs and if the world burns? so what? as long as he is alive to rule over it does it matter? the way he was so tender and loving and protective of her pre water of life. that's his mother (and sister)!!!!! the only thing he has left of who he was!!!! his maker (in more sense than one)!! and having jessica emerge as this almost empty vessel for the other memory to flow through. to inhabit with only glimpses of what used to be his mother.......... delicious. he loves her he hates her she is his enemy his only respite his maker and his undoing. I love drama
#he has more than one birthright (derogatory) sksje#asks#i also lost the plot of what i was even trying to get at but so true 🤝 i love insane dynamics in all its forms#dune#pauljessica#dunetwo

okay, sad ask now.
Henry and William's childhoods!! (plus how they met each other)
Henry:
grew up in a Very rural town in Utah (not Hurricane). like we're talking most people are farmers and there probably isn't more than 100-200 people living here. considering the time period (late 30's-early 40's), makes sense.
this poor guy's bio dad sucked. like he was horrible.
has an older sister named Jen :] (< canonical to the books, i'm sure)
he had only a few stuffed animals growing up: Teddy (bear, obviously), Theodore (rabbit), Dawn (chicken; technically a rooster but Henry didn't give a fuck), and Cooper (fox; fell apart often because it was the oldest of all the toys).
those lil guys would become his inspiration to make the OG Freddy's Gang.
he shipped Teddy and Theodore together, despite growing up heavily religious. he'd just check around to make sure no one was watching them and then he'd go "hehe now Kiss :3"
well. time for a bit of Projection. so like. Henry's Transmasc. now uh while doing some research because i remembered that there are some things that can cause facial hair (or "abnormal hair growth," as some sites call it where women grow hair on places where they either aren't supposed grow much/noticeable hair or any hair at all) in women. did some research, might have PCOS but with more...milder symptoms? idk because some of the symptoms/signs aren't things that i deal with personally. but the hair and the acne stuff matches up and we'll leave it there for now. but anyway, so there's that: Henry starting growing some facial hair (coincidentally a few months before realizing that. he May not be a girl, actually), and because he thought it was cool and because well he's already kind of a social outcast anyway so why not am i right? he decided to keep it.
dad got thrown in jail for fighting and almost killing someone in a bar fight, and his mom remarried. stepdad was much better :]
got his interest in mechanics and robotics from old sci-fi movies and having to fix stuff like his bike and some of the electricity and wiring in the house (mostly 'cause it Sucked).
time for college came around, and well...his stepdad knew some people who were willing to help with his transition as much as they could in like the 50's-60's. got his boy some top surgery, what technically would count as a "fake ID" (Henry and his stepdad would call it an "updated ID," though. which in a way they aren't wrong about), and then sent him off to college!
he 100% gives off the vibes of going down the "weird "girl" who later discovered they weren't a girl at all" to "goofy but Very autistic father" pipeline. i accept no criticism on this, he just Does.
yes he is a furry. Fredbear is in fact his fursona.
William:
hoo fucking BOY did this guy's parents SUCK.
like if you ever wonder why Rewrite!William's Like That as an adult, you've just got to look at his childhood.
his parents were distant and neglectful At Best, and physically + verbally abusive At Worst.
unfortunately for him, something that certainly didn't help matters was that He Was Autistic As Hell. sensory issues, couldn't understand social cues to save his life (still can't, tbh), and just in general was...odd.
some would've called him "eccentric," maybe. had an odd interest in rabbits, in drawing. he was always rather quiet, staring in an almost unnerving way at the walls or just on someone by accident. but mention anything he enjoyed, and he'd talk your ear off.
despite all of this, he was well-loved by teachers. charming lil guy, y'know? not exactly popular with most of the other kids, though...but effectively a Teacher's Pet, pretty much. not that he minded much, either; "If they can tell me something I haven't already heard from my parents, maybe I'll start listening." (< something that concerned the Fuck out of his art teacher once, fun fact!)
used to cry a lot as a kid; got him bullied often :(
parents were rich, and he had a lot of siblings (three sisters and two brothers; loved each other but acted rather distant :().
after a lot of begging from Will, on his 6th birthday, his parents got him a pet rabbit (mostly because they wanted him to shut the fuck up about it) that he named "O'Hare" (familiar sounding name, ain't it?).
and God, did that kid love that rabbit. took the best care of him he could. played with him with whatever spare time he had. he adored O'Hare.
of course...William never had the best luck as a child. when he was eight years old, a couple of friends of one of his older brothers had come over to hang out. they had found William drawing while talking to O'Hare, decided to mess around a bit, and...well, they were a bit too rough with the rabbit, we'll put it that way.
despite his brother getting rightfully pissed at those two for y'know. Killing His Brother's Pet Rabbit, even if it was technically an accident, and trying to comfort his brother, William is inconsolable.
of course, not that his parents understand that this isn't something William's just going to get over in a few days; they're just pissed off and annoyed that their son won't stop crying (to give an example, something his father said, "It's just a stupid rabbit, William! Now stop your whining and bitching!").
of course, William never really got over it that quickly. he practically closed himself off, escaping into doing art to ignore his grief and give himself something to distract himself. and he starts drawing his dead bunny as a new character: this time, as an actual hare. and anthropomorphic. look, William had been watching old Disney cartoons and Looney Tunes, also as a way of comforting himself. and maybe he got inspired a bit...maybe a way to immortalize his old rabbit. heck, who knows, maybe he could become an animator and rival Walt himself!
or, maybe, as he starts drawing and thinking more and more...a way to become his old rabbit? (< aka William is a furry. and a therian. maybe even ockin? well uh....if it works as a coping mechanism, then it works, i guess?)
at least...until his family discovered his sketchbook. and decided that the Best Course Of Action is to send their clearly grieving son to a BOARDING SCHOOL. when he was NINE.
and we ain't talking about a "teachers are kinda strict and you're expected to keep your grades up" boarding school. we're talking a "you will get your ass beat for something as small as accidentally dropping your PENCIL" boarding school.
because their other option is probably taking him to a psychiatrist and having to deal with the public humiliation that having an openly mentally ill family member at that time would cause (which gee guys, I WONDER WHOSE FAULT THAT IS?? I WONDER WHY YOUR SON HAS ISSUES??).
so they send him off, and uh. that goes as well as you'd expect: the letters are practically constant, talking about William's ever-worsening behavior problems. at first, he just clammed up and kept to himself, and anytime it came to corporal punishment, they mention that he hardly ever flinches. then...it got worse. he'd have breakdowns, usually at bedtime, and it would wake other students up. he'd get violent with bullies, not even caring for the consequences. he was always closed off, only ever happy during an art class. even stranger, despite the behavior problems...his grades never suffered. they don't understand it.
eventually, when he's fifteen, they send him home. they decided "yep. we're not dealing with him on the Teenager Hormones. he's Y'all's problem again." (< ignore that this is taking place in England)
his behavior problems? never get any better while he's still at home: his emotions are volatile now. he's sad? everyone in the damn house is gonna hear it from his bedroom. he's angry? hope no one was attached to that glass cup he was holding, because it's broken now.
the family just decides to move over to America (i'd say maybe either Virginia or NY. don't ask why, those are the vibes i'm getting), because i think they're starting to realize They Fucked Up Somewhere and decided maybe a change of scenery would help William. It Really Didn't, But They Tried.
when he turns 18, they just buy him a car, give him a bunch of money, and send him off into the world; "Go to college. Or don't. We don't really care what you do at this point, we just don't want you here."
he just scoffs and decides that he'll go away. far away for college, somewhere where his family isn't breathing down his neck and he can just be himself, and just try things out. see what sticks.
not really like he wants to stay here, anyway.
(this man is also Not cis. probably some flavor of nonbinary. or even some form of rabbit/hare xenogender, purely 'cause it would fit. he'd like it/its pronouns and neopronouns, i'd think)
and now, fucking finally:
College:
they both only really found out that they'd been assigned as roommates when Henry finally arrived at the room. it was. an awkward first couple of hours.
they found out that they had pretty similar schedules, and a lot of the same classes, and. Well, Ain't That Convenient!
William goes back to being his old eccentric self, a rather dramatic man. he and Henry both took a drama class, but for different reasons (William because he could just be himself and Henry so that he could come out of his shell a bit).
they both found out about each other's fursonas and expected the other to go "ew cringe" but. they both found it pretty cool! (it definitely made Will happy, considering he'd been called a weirdo for that his entire life)
then pretty shortly after that they looked at the fact that they both had some. creative ideas with those fursonas and other characters, and while William originally went with the "let's make an animated cartoon show! :D" (which, keep in mind, was his original childhood plan), Henry thought about the fact that they were both in some mechanics/robotics classes and went "actually, I have a better idea-" and that's how the idea for Freddy's/Fredbear's was originally born :]
Henry came out as trans to William and his (at the time) girlfriend, Claire, because he had decided to keep his flannel unbuttoned and Claire saw his top surgery scars. after a couple of minutes of nearly choking on water (because Henry literally decided to start his explanation with "Oh, these are from where I got my breasts cut off-" and it caught Will so off guard), William basically went "HOLY SHIT, THAT'S SO COOL????"
also, final fun fact: these two Have explored each other's bodies before. in college. it's how Henry discovered he was pan and how Will discovered he was bi. just a fun fact for you :]
and there we go!! finally done :] gotta go eat now see ya later bestie enjoy these
AAAHH being like "aw my poor bois :[" and then stumbling upon They Have Explored Each Other's Bodies is maybe the best experience of my life lmaooo. I really like them being early furries. The internet comes out and they join a furry chat room and are like "holy shit chat are you seeing this" (if they had just stayed normal and not. Ya know. Done murder by then)
But yeah ough. My sillies...

I hope you’re doing okay today Darling!!
I’ve been craving a soft Aaron and Spencer Drabble, I’m not even sure of the circumstances but just Spencer absolutely refusing everyone any sort of interaction or affection, he just want to be with his bubba, only wants him to cuddle him, carry him, all that fun stuff - maybe it’s at like a weird stage in the future where Spencer is acknowledging Alex and James getting together and wanting to give Alex some space so his focus just moves to Aaron in the meantime?? But also Aaron low-key loves it… idk, do with that what you will!!
Sending love always! 💙
This blended with wanting to write some Hotchley, so please enjoy this very squishy and sweet drabble.
----------
Being invited to the Lincoln House Saturday movie night was a huge deal.
It wasn’t like Aaron’s friends didn’t approve of her or anything- Haley knew they liked her, and she and Penelope were definitely friends. But there was a specific kind of closeness that the nine of them shared, an inner circle that she didn’t belong to. And that was okay.
(Also, if she was honest, Aaron’s twin sister made her a little nervous. Alex was unfailingly kind and nice, but Haley couldn’t help but feel intimidated by a girl with straight As, fluency in multiple languages, and a ballet scholarship. And she knew that Alex would not hesitate if she did anything at all to break Aaron’s heart.)
But she had caught Aaron’s eye in the hallway during a passing period on Friday, and he had crossed through the crowd to catch up to her. “Hi,” she said, a little breathless, hugging her books to her chest.
“Hey, I was hoping I would run into you,” he said.
He said something else but she didn’t quite catch it. She was too busy staring at him. Aaron was beautiful, with his serious dark eyes and his high sharp cheekbones and the cut line of his jaw. His hair was swept back from his forehead, not a strand out of place, and his uniform fit him perfectly.
“Oh, yeah,” she said, hoping she answered him correctly and wondering if he would ever feel as thunderstruck looking at her as she did when she looked at him.
“Yeah, it’s my turn to pick the movie for movie night this Saturday, and Penelope suggested I ask you to come hang out with us,” Aaron said. “We’ll probably start around four o’clock. Would that be okay?”
“Yes!” she said. “I mean…yes, yeah, that sounds like fun.”
“Great,” he said, and when he smiled at her his eyes lit up. “You can text me if you need to. Or Penelope, uh…you have her number too, right?”
“Yeah, I do, don’t worry,” she said.
“Hey, Hotch, I have a question for you!” a kid in a red Lincoln tie called, and Aaron walked away, his expression falling back in serious lines. Haley resisted the urge to sigh dreamily. It wasn’t a date, but she was going to spend more time with him, at least.
She tried on half a dozen outfits before she decided on exactly what she was going to wear. “Aren’t you just hanging out with the angry Lincoln kid and his weirdo friends?” Harper said as she lounged on her bed and scrolled idly through TikTok. “You really don’t have to dress up.”
“I’m not dressing up, I just want to look nice,” Haley objected. “And Aaron isn’t angry. He’s just…serious.”
Harper snorted. “Could’ve fooled me,” she said. “He looks like the human version of a thundercloud. I think his face would crack if he smiled.”
“He’s nothing like that, he’s so sweet,” Haley said. She looked herself up and down in the mirror. “This is cute but not trying too hard, right?”
“Yeah, you like fine,” Harper said. She glanced over her shoulder. “Somebody’s texting you.” Haley picked it up and smiled. “Ooh, what’s that face for?”
“Aaron wants to meet me early at the Honeybean for a coffee run,” she said. “I’m going to go right now?”
“Oh, an actual date?”
“No, no, we’re just hanging out,” Haley said. She spritzed on her favorite perfume and immediately second guessed herself, maybe it was too much. “And I won’t say no to getting coffee with a cute boy.”
“He’s not that cute, he’s just tall!” Harper called after as she left the room. Haley rolled her eyes. Aaron was cute, she’d heard the other girls in theatre club talking about him. But Harper was right, he was always so serious and solemn. She wondered what it would take to get him out of his shell.
It was a chilly day, on the verge of drizzling, and she regretted not grabbing a jacket on the way out. I’ll get a hot coffee and that’ll fix it, she thought. Her heart skipped a beat as she opened the door to the coffee shop. Be cool, Brooks. You’re just hanging out with Aaron and his friends.
She caught sight of him immediately. His dark hair was unstyled, falling soft and floppy over his forehead, and he was dressed in jeans and a dark blue zipup hoodie she’d seen him wear to rehearsals. But to her surprise, he wasn’t alone.
“Hi!” Aaron said, his eyes lighting up.
“Hi!” Spencer echoed happily. He held Aaron’s hand and smiled up at her.
“Sorry, he just really wanted to come with me,” Aaron said, absently running his hand over Spencer’s tousled hair.
“No, no, it’s fine!” Haley said. “Hi, Spencer.”
“We’ve been sent to pick up everyone’s coffee orders,” Spencer informed her. “Emily hasn’t had caffeine yet today and there’s a distinct chance she might murder Dave without it.”
“Well, we can’t have that,” Haley laughed.
She stood next to Aaron in line, close enough to smell the spicy clean scent of his body wash. “So are you going to auditions for the black box show?” she asked.
“Oh, I don’t know,” he said. “One musical might be enough for me.”
“Oh, no, you have to!” she said. “You were so good. And I could totally see you in this show.”
His ears turned faintly pink as he ducked his head, almost shy. “I think you’re just desperate for more guys to audition,” he said.
She elbowed him lightly. “I mean, yeah, but also you’re really talented,” she teased.
Spencer tugged on the hem of Aaron’s hoodie. “Hotch, I can’t see what’s in the case,” he said. “Could you pick me up, please?”
Aaron picked him up easily and set him on his hip. “Better?” he asked.
“Yes, thank you,” Spencer said. He wrapped his arms around Aaron’s neck. “Can we get something for Alex?”
Aaron laughed. “Yeah, I think we can do that, if you see something you think she’d like,” he said.
Haley smiled at the sight of them. She still wasn’t exactly sure how Aaron’s family worked- she was starting to get the sneaking suspicion that neither Alex nor Spencer were actually related to him- but he was clearly fond of the little boy, and Spencer clearly adored him. They were so sweet.
“Hi, you ready to order?” the barista at the register asked.
Aaron dug his phone out of his pocket. “Yeah, hi,” he said. He balanced Spencer comfortably on his hip as he pulled up his list. “I need a large cold brew with light iced, nothing in it, and a large strawberry green tea…”
He wasn’t kidding when he said he’d been sent on the coffee run; he ordered half a dozen drinks as he read off his list. “Bubba, can we get Birdy a coffee cake? She likes those,” Spencer said.
“Yeah, of course,” Aaron said. He bounced him lightly. “And do you want a cake pop?”
“Yes, thank you!” Spencer said.
Aaron turned to Haley. “What would you like?” he asked.
She blinked. “Oh!” she said. “Oh, you don’t need to get me anything.”
He smiled at her, the corners of his eyes crinkling up. “But I want to,” he said. He leaned closer, lowering his voice conspiratorially. “Besides, Emily sent me with her black Amex, so the sky’s the limit.”
“Oh, well, in that case,” she laughed. “A hot caramel macchiato, please.”
“Did you know that in Italian macchiato means ‘stained milk’?” Spencer said.
“No, I actually didn’t,” Haley said.
Aaron set Spencer down carefully. “Here, Bug, you can carry these,” he said, handing him the snacks. He brushed his dark hair back from his eyes, almost nervously. “Do you mind helping me carry these?”
She nodded and he held out one of the drink carriers. Her fingertips trailed over his as she took it. “Thanks,” she said, and he smiled at her, a little bashfully.
“We should, um…we should probably go,” Aaron said. “We need to get the movies started.”
“Movies, plural?”
“We’re going to watch the Indiana Jones trilogy!” Spencer piped up. “I’m excited. I’m not well-versed in pop culture but I like Stephen Spielberg’s works so far.”
“Oh, really?” Haley said. She was never sure what was going to come out of Spencer’s mouth next, but she did have a mental list of questions a mile long. “What’s been your favorite so far?”
“Jaws, I think.”
“Jaws gave you nightmares,” Aaron pointed out, holding the door open with his hip as they walked out of the shop.
“So did ET!” Spencer objected. “And everyone promised me it was a kid’s movie!”
“ET gave me nightmares when I was a kid too,” Haley said. “The scene when he’s all wrinkled up and dying? Terrifying.”
Aaron laughed. She smiled up at him, and this time when she brushed her hand against his their fingers intertwined, just long enough for him to squeeze and then let go. “I was scared of Snow White,” he admitted. “When I was like three. The whole hag thing.”
“When the film premiered in 1937, movie theaters kept having to replace their seats because kids were getting so scared of the evil queen that they would wet their pants,” Spencer said.
“I didn’t get that scared,” Aaron said wryly. He glanced up at the rapidly darkening sky. “Jesus, it’s going to pour today, isn’t it?”
Spencer slipped his hand into Aaron’s. “It never rains like this in Las Vegas,” he said.
“You’ll get used to it, Bug,” Aaron said, squeezing his hand. “For now let’s just get back to Lincoln, okay?”
The rain held off just long enough for them to make it into the lobby; Haley shook a couple of raindrops from her hair. She has never actually been inside Lincoln House before, and she tried not to make her gawking too obvious as they climbed the stairs. Everyone knew Lincoln was for the “troubled kids,” kids that were on the edge of getting expelled from their own schools but had some kind of exceptional academic or athletic or artistic talent that made them desirable enough to St. Thaddeus to offer them a scholarship. The building certainly didn’t look as nice and and new as her own dorm did- the paint was peeling in places and the architecture was shabby and outdated- but there was a kind of warmth and coziness to it, especially when they made it to the common room.
“Hotch, thank god, I need caffeine,” a girl in ripped jeans and a vintage tee shirt said. Haley had seen her around multiple times before; she had never seen her in correct dress code once. “Which one’s mine?”
“Jesus, Emily, give us a second,” Hotch said. He set his drink carrier down on the table and took Haley’s from her. “Everybody can figure out their own.”
Spencer zipped over to where Alex was sitting and held out one of the paper packets as the rest of the kids swarmed the drinks, bickering as they searched through them. “Aaron said we could get you a coffee cake,” he said.
Alex beamed at him. “Thank you, dearest,” she said, leaning over to kiss his cheek.
“I got a cake pop!” he said happily.
A tall boy with soft sandy brown hair leaned over the back of the couch and held out a cup for Alex. “Chai latte?” he said. Alex tilted her head back to be kissed and he happily obliged before handing her the cup. Haley hid a smile. She’d heard the rumors, but they were cute to see in person.
“Who ordered a macchiato?” JJ called. “None of us ever get macchiatos.”
Haley raised her hand. “That’s mine,” she said, and half the assembled group whipped around to look at her.
“Oh damn, Haley, when did you get here?” Derek said, grinning at her.
“I came with Aaron,” she said.
Penelope made a face. “Who’s Aaron…oh! Hotch!” she said. “I always forget he has a first name.”
“He, um, he asked me to help him with the coffee run,” she said. She glanced around; he wasn’t in the common room and she felt a little awkward. “He invited me for movie night.”
“Oh yeah, we know,” the girl in the ripped jeans said, smirking. Alex shot her a look from across the room and she shrugged.
“Okay, I’m here, we can start now,” Aaron said as he walked back into the room. He had changed from his jeans to a pair of joggers, and he held a stack of DVDs in his hand. Penelope zipped over to take it from him. “Everybody’s met Haley, right?”
“No, no, not everybody,” Penelope said as she popped the first disc into the DVD player.
Aaron pointed them out. “That’s Emily, that’s Dave, that’s James,” he said. “You know Penelope and Derek, I think you’ve met JJ…and you definitely know Alex and Spencer.”
JJ handed Haley her coffee. “Hopefully we don’t scare you off,” she said.
“What do you mean? We’re delightful,” Dave said dryly from behind his laptop.
“Okay, I’ve got it, movie’s starting,” Penelope announced. She found her spot on the floor between Spencer and JJ; the younger kids had made a nest of blankets and pillows. “Everybody find a place to sit.”
Haley glanced around. Aaron beckoned to her; he’d claimed a seat on the couch and there was enough space for her. She sat down gingerly next to him and smiled.
Rain started tapping against the windows ten minutes into the movie, and pouring hard by thirty. She sipped her coffee and scooted herself a little closer to Aaron’s warmth, as close as she dared. Snuggling would probably be too bold, but she wouldn’t be mad at all if it happened.
Spencer scrambled up from the floor. “Bubba, I’m cold,” he said.
“You want my hoodie?” Aaron asked. He unzipped it, and as he pulled it up it rucked up the hem of his shirt, just enough for Haley to catch a little glimpse of his stomach. “There. Better?”
“Yes, thank you,” Spencer beamed. The hoodie hung down to his knobby little knees. “Can I sit next to you?”
Aaron blinked. “Uh…you don’t want to sit with the girls?” he asked.
Alex sat up a little; she had been leaning back against James and skimming a book while the movie played. “You can come sit with me,” she said.
“No, thank you, I want to sit with Bubba,” Spencer said, clambering up to Aaron’s other side. Aaron glanced over at her, almost apologetically. But it was so cute, she couldn’t be put out. Spencer tucked himself against Aaron’s side, his knees drawn up to his chest, and Aaron draped an arm around him.
“Okay, I’m ordering pizza, last call for any special requests,” Dave announced. Derek sat up eagerly. “I’m not ordering a whole pizza just for you, Morgan. Haley, anything you’d like? We’re getting cheese, pepperoni, sausage…and Hawaiian, because Penelope makes wild choices.”
“Hawaiian pizza is delicious,” Penelope announced.
“I’m good, those all sound great,” Haley laughed.
Aaron leaned closer to her. “Oh, watch this, this is my favorite part of the first movie,” he whispered in her ear.
Haley shivered happily. He was close enough that his breath could warm her skin, and she hoped she didn’t actually blush.
So far, though, movie night was going well. Aaron’s friends were fun, they bantered and bickered with each other and commented on what was happening in the movie. She just wished she could have a little more one on one time with Aaron, but she couldn’t blame him for being distracted by his little brother. The storm was getting louder and louder outside, and Spencer was leaning heavily into the protection of Aaron’s side.
“Pizza’s here!” Dave announced as the credits started to roll, and immediately the nine of them were up and moving like a well oiled machine, setting out plates and napkins and drinks. Haley got up too, even though she wasn’t sure what she should be doing.
Alex handed her a plate. “Having fun?” she asked.
“Oh! Yes, I’m having a great time,” Haley said.
Alex smiled at her. The older girl was more dressed-down than Haley had ever seen her; her long red hair was pulled back in a messy ponytail and she wore leggings and an oversized flannel shirt that Haley suspected belonged to her new boyfriend. “Aaron has been so excited,” she said. “We’ve been telling him he should invite you for ages, but he’s been nervous.”
“Really?” Haley said.
“Really, but you didn’t hear it from me,” Alex said. “Sorry about Spencer, though. He’s been having a little trouble adjusting to James and I dating and he’s been a little clingy with Aaron lately.”
“No, it’s fine, it’s adorable,” Haley said. “It’s really cute that they’re so close.”
Heavy footsteps thundered up the stairs. “Jesus, those stairs suck,” Dave panted. “Okay, come get your pizza.” Derek bounded past him. “Quick, somebody stop Derek before he takes a whole one for himself!”
“And everybody go quick so we can start the next movie, I want to know what happens,” Emily said.
Haley got herself a piece and sat back down; Aaron took his seat next to her with a plastic to go container of salad. “Aren’t you hungry?” Haley asked.
“No, just not much of a pizza guy,” Aaron said, dumping a truly insane amount of ranch dressing over the salad. “What did you think of the first movie?”
“It’s great, I can’t believe it’s taken me this long to watch them,” she said.
Aaron grinned, one corner of his mouth tilting up more than the other. “They’re my favorites,” he confessed. “I’ve seen them a million times and I never get sick of them.”
She leaned closer to him, her arm bumping up against his. “That’s how I am with Cinderella, I’ve seen it so many times I could probably quote it in my sleep,” she said.
Suddenly Spencer popped up and they jumped apart. “Did you know Cinderella’s glass slipper is probably a mistranslation? The original French text actually indicated it was a fur slipper,” he said.
“I didn’t know that, that’s so interesting,” Haley said.
Alex leaned forward from her seat. “Spencer, do you want to come sit with me?” she asked.
“No, thank you,” he said, climbing in between Penelope and JJ in their blanket nest again.
Emily stood up, wiping pizza sauce off her chin. “All right, let’s start the second one, let’s go,” she announced.
The second movie was definitely a little more intense than the first. It wasn’t like Saw 5 or anything, but it was still more than she usually liked to watch…but on the other hand, when she jumped and squeaked in surprise at what was happening on the screen, Aaron wrapped an arm around her shoulders.
She tried to play it cool but she had a feeling she was failing miserably. They both sat stiffly for a bit, but eventually she relaxed against him and he did too, his hand curling around her shoulder and his thumb rubbing her upper arm lightly.
It didn’t last.
Spencer scrambled to his feet as Penelope and JJ shrieked at the screen. “Aaron, can I sit with you?” he asked, glancing briefly back over his shoulder at the TV and immediately turning back. “It’s scary. I don’t think I like it.”
“Yeah, yeah, c’mere,” Aaron said. Haley missed the warm weight of his arm, but Aaron picked up his little brother and settled him on his lap. “You’re okay, Bug. It’s just a movie, you’re safe.”
“It’s scary,” Spencer mumbled into his chest.
Haley couldn’t possibly be mad that they were interrupted. Aaron held Spencer on his lap for the rest of the movie, patting his back and talking to him softly during the scariest bits. It was so sweet. Most boys she knew hated their little brothers, but Aaron was so kind and so gentle.
By the time they finished the second movie Derek had brought out a massive bag of candy to pass around, and Spencer was yawning heavily. “Bug, go get your pajamas on,” Alex said. “You look like you’re about to fall asleep.”
“I’m not tired,” he whined, nuzzling his cheek against Aaron’s chest.
Aaron kissed the top of his head and set him on his feet. “Birdy’s right,” he said.
Spencer rolled his eyes. “I’m going to stay awake, you know,” he said, but he headed down the hall.
“My money’s on him falling asleep before Sean Connery shows up,” Derek said.
“How do you know he’s in it?” Emily said.
“I roomed with Hotch last year, he watches these movies on repeat.”
Haley raised an eyebrow at Aaron, her lips quirking up. He shrugged. “I wasn’t lying, I’ve seen these a lot,” he said, half laughing.
Spencer made it back just as the third movie started, dressed in his pajamas with a soft ivory colored blanket clutched in his hand, and he made a beeline for Aaron. He lifted him back into his lap and snuggled him close, wrapping the blanket around him. It didn’t take long for the little boy to drop off, his breathing slowing down and deepening. Aaron rocked him a little absently as he slept, patting his hip.
By the time the movie finished all the kids were a little sleepy, and Spencer was out like a light in Aaron’s arms. “Oh, those were fucking great,” Emily said. “I can see why Hotchner is obsessed with them.”
“Yeah, they’re just so long,” Penelope yawned.
Alex got up from James’s side. “Here, I’ll put him to bed,” she told Aaron. “You should walk Haley back.”
“Are you sure?” Aaron said. “I can always just-“ But Spencer had woken up just enough to stretch his arms towards Alex, and she picked him up easily. “All right, well…I’ll be back soon.” He turned to Haley. “Are you ready?”
“Yeah, it’s pretty late,” she said. “Bye everybody, thanks for letting me join.”
They said goodbye in a happy flurry, with plenty of offers for her to come back any time. That was encouraging, she knew enough that if they didn’t like her they wouldn’t ask her back.
The rain had stopped but the night was damp and cool, the cobblestones slick under her shoes. She slipped a little and Aaron grabbed her hand, and after the initial shock they kept walking hand-in-hand.
“Thanks for coming over,” Aaron said. “Sorry Spencer was taking so much of my attention.”
“No, it’s fine, he’s so cute,” Haley said. “It’s sweet to watch you two. He loves you so much.”
Aaron smiled. “Yeah?” he said. “I hope so.”
He walked her to the front door and reluctantly let go of her hand. “That was a lot of fun,” she said.
“Yeah, it, uh…it was,” he said, ducking his head as if he was suddenly shy.
Before she could talk herself out of it, she raised herself up on tiptoes, squeezed his arm to brace herself, and kissed his cheek. “Goodnight, Aaron,” she said.
Even in the dim light she could see him turning red. “Goodnight, Haley,” he said, his voice squeaking a little as he smiled at her dopily. She squeezed his arm one last time and then ran inside, her heart skipping excited little beats.

HE ALMOST KILLED HIMSELF- i mean, i guess that’s a skill too. not everyone can fail at poisoning the wrong cup lmaoo.
i just love the way you show how coriolanus acts with his emotions rather than mind. he deepens the conversation about his mother and sister even though it will hurt- because he is emotional. he doesn’t change his mind about the murder even though her father could be so valuable as a doctor- because he is emotional. coryo doesn’t take action for the most beneficial outcome but the one where he will feel the best.
thank you for advancing the timeline!! i like that the pregnancy is after they both have received their respectable positions. i doubt he would be thinking about a child before becoming the president and she would want to give her all to her first few games as the head gamemaker.
did she know about the murder of her father though? if she didn’t -beforehand or right after-, do you think she figured it out? maybe her mother or brother would imply it? how would she feel? what would she do?
okay yes let’s get into this so minor spoilers for the original books series below so i’m gonna cut it!!
so yes firstly i don’t recall if you’ve mentioned having read the books or not but i tried to include what his MO is in the books! literally that he always drinks out of the same cup first so they feel safe to do the same but HE is given an antidote. i get why they didn’t include this in the movies but i do really wish they had!
THEN yes this is an extremely emotional topic for him and i wish i elaborated more on what his real (known or unknown to him) motivations were even in killing her father. i think so much of it was protecting r from him, even if he knew he could truly help with her pregnancy and even the delivery. his need to protect her overrides that “risk”, because i think in that moment of panic, since he didn’t know her father would want to help, coryo couldn’t say yes even if he wanted to because he would be running the new risk of r being upset with him for allowing her father anywhere near her AND their child. but, i think consciously, he didn’t consider it for even a moment even knowing that happened to his mother bc above all, he was not about to let that pos anywhere near his child and he knew you wouldn’t either. discarding his and r’s own trauma, it came down to protecting their son.
moving on to the timeline, you are 100% correct. i put in the tags that it’s 10 years after they left twelve, and by then they would both be well established in their careers and their new home and comfortable with their lifestyle of “fame” (for lack of a better term), where eyes are on them constantly. they knew they had to (and wanted to) have kids but i think timing was very important to them. the one thing i DONT know which i would love to hear your thoughts on is how she would handle her role as head game maker while pregnant. obviously hormones are CRAZY when you’re expecting, and i’m wondering whether or not it would even be in her nature to view the tributes as what they are: children. maybe while she’s pregnant she withdraws from the extremely personal connection she’s developed with her games because she can’t imagine her child going through something like that even before they were born. of course she would have to still control every detail, but maybe she wouldn’t even watch that year. idk. just something that’s been eating away at me lol.
FINALLY when it comes to whether or not she knew, i feel like coryo would tell her not long after, but probably lie. i think he knew that her brother would likely tell her, so he had to jump on that first and come up with a reasonable explanation. he knows she hated her father, but i think just like i mentioned before that he would be scared that she would be upset with him for actually killing the man who raised her. would she be mad? probably not, considering she has helped him cover up murders more than once (mayfair and lucy gray, one of which being extremely personal to both of them), but he couldn’t be careful enough because he loves her so much that he can’t fathom her being any kind of upset toward him or his actions. i think coryo would take the route of telling her he died of some kind of illness, maybe the flu, taking a play right out of dr. gaul’s book to gauge her reaction. i think r would be skeptical, since she knows every move dr. gaul had in her arsenal, but he would be too scared to tell her outright even if he knew she would see right through it. i don’t think even then they would talk about it. i think she would smile and nod, giving him a kiss on the cheek and they would go about their day as normal. if she was going to be told the full story and find something to be upset about, it would be that he drank the poison first before giving it to her father.

do you have any online resources for Balkan books? i'm learning croatian so it would be cool to practice reading actual books instead of just balkan twitter
balkandownload.org , knjige.club and iirc libgen has some croatian and serbian things
go crazy :) if u want croatian book reccs too, from our authors id reccommend anything by ivica ivanišević (my fav is "primavera", esp since its very classic dalmatian setting) and renato baretić. baretić's "osmi povjerenik" is a cult book, but since it uses a lot of dialect, and a made up dialect too, it might be too advanced. "hotel grand" is also a fantastic book of his, that one might be easier to get through.
if you want classics, one of my favorite book series is "grička vještica" by marija jurić zagorka (the first croatian female journalist). its 7 books, with plot taking place during maria theresa's rule of hungary, but the speed and the twists are like a modern netflix show. she did the "enemies to lovers" trope back in like the 1910. and she and jane austen are the only people ive ever liked it from. ive read all the books like 5 times, and insisted my sister is named Nera after the main character. if netflix producers read this, they would sign the production papers within 10 seconds of finishing the books. unlike krleža, she wrote in a quite simple style and language (tho there is nothing simple about croatian anywhere i guess).
if you want to read some poetry i recc dobriša cesarić - he is one of the most famous croatian poets, and his poems are simple but with incredible flow. you can also find the texts online without downloading. just google dobriša cesarić pjesme. :) "balada iz predgrađa" is one of his best ones. "voćka poslije kiše" is something every single croat can quote.
grigor vitez was also a wonderful poet but he wrote for children - idk what level youre at, but that might be a good start too! his poems are beautiful. "kad bi drveće hodalo", for example.
on topic of poetry, since this is a communist and antifascist blog, i recc you the main poem of yugoslavia: desanka maksimović's "krvava bajka" about genocide in kragujevac. its short and you can find it on wikipedia.
from recent books which were translated to croatian i rly enjoyed nita prose's "maid" and from this french author "fresh water for flowers" (too tired to remember her name rn). anthony doerrs "the light we cannot see" is a bit reactionary but still a great read. "the cathedral" (cant remember the author rn) also won me over.
if you want to watch a good movie i recc "svećenikova djeca", if you can find the torrent. idt i was able to last time when i wanted to watch it. :/
from bands, if you want to hear some dalmatian music and accents, i reccommend daleka obala, tutti frutti band, dino dvornik ("afrika" and "manijak" are bangers), oliver dragojević (listen to "nadalina" its super cool!), TBF ("genije" plays in my head always) and if u wanna see the traditional split dance just search "splitsko kolo" on youtube :)
i can also just send you my own book if u wanna read that lol (im a published author in croatia, and a class traitor for advocating book piracy here on tumblr i guess) . it does use some dalmatian slang tho.

12 for the ghosts ask!!
12. Is there a flashback scene you wish we'd gotten?
yippie, thank you!
A lot, a lot really I’ll go in timeline order
Robin: literally anything I want to see his family I want to see more of him as a ghosts but before more people came along and how he was we get a bit in the book but still would have liked more of that and family
Humphrey: more again just more I will defend that man with my life but it’s hard to when I don’t know that much I’m like he tired with Sophie he tried for her to be happy and he did but then in season five they are saying how he dose not listen and what not and she was speaking French both of them made no effort to speak the others launguge from what we say we yeah more of him and his life
Mary: for this one I was pretty happy like I’m being bias because I love love love her story with Annie so much so I’m just really happy with it I would love to see more of her with Annie because they where so cute as for her life I can imagine pretty easily I would see more if I could but I think I can imagine well enough I’m not missing any key details I understand why they didn’t show her trials and I’m completely ok with that we all know what the witch hunts and trials where like we know and we see in the book and yeah her with Annie I love so much so more of that but I am quite happy
kitty: again I’m pretty happy with this do I love her yes would I like to see more because I love her yes but I feel like we have a lot from how her sister was in the book her diary entries also loved and that’s really sad so anything that’s not that would have loved to see maybe more of her as a ghosts before Alison her relationship with other ghosts like Annie who are moved on yes
Thomas: I don’t know exactly what flashback I would like for him but I would take anything because I need to know how this man’s brain works literally why are you like this I need to know
Fanny: I want more anything from her life really I want because I said this in my essay about her being autistic which I will edit a link on after but I really want more on her as I say in the essay she is masking I think and would love to see more before she had such a high strict mask it’s still her of course but I’m curious and would love to further prove my point she’s autistic because I am correct
The Captain: again more of anything I do not want to see him when he realised he’s a ghosts like I would but also I think that would be very sad and I don’t noo can’t cope I would love to see more of him and Havers like just I really love them even though we don’t get much but would love more I also would sort of like to see him when he was younger I want to know more about his life in general because we really don’t know much
Pat: when he became a ghosts as sorted these guys out because what where they doing before him?! If trans Pat headcannon was real then Trans Pat but I unfortunately think that’s just a headcannon yeah I know sort of how the 80s where from other movies and parents and all so I kind of know but trans Pat young Pat also I wonder how he got along in school he’s so friendly and so sweet but idk yes trans Pat please
Julian: I’m good.. I know how he’s like but again would take more lore if I could have it perhaps his parents because how where they like to make this child like this
anything really though I love ghosts so much and would love to see more things also plaguers want to see more of them because I love them and more of the ghosts that got sucked off or before Alison was there etc
yay

my thoughts on guardians of the galaxy vol. 3 (part two!)
spoilers ahoy!
At the end of part one, I began discussing the humor, which I'll continue to do so here. As I said before, the guardians just kept arguing but it wasn't funny. It felt serious. And there definitely should be times when they have serious arguments, they're under a lot of stress what with Rocket dying and all. But like, a lot of their interactions felt like this. Even their attempts to be funny kinda felt like annoying incompetence at times. There were few jokes that made me laugh, whereas with the first two I'm usually cackling. Vol. 1 and 2 are hilarious in my book. Yondu at the jewelry shop. Rocket's obsession with stealing mechanical limbs from people. "I'm gonna die here surrounded by the biggest idiots in the galaxy." The dance battle at the end of Vol. 1. The whole bit with Taserface! And the iconic "I'M MARY POPPINS, Y'ALL!"
I think the humor struggles in Vol. 3 because all the funny moments are put on Drax and Mantis. They make for some great comedy, as we've seen in Vol. 2 and the Christmas Special. But they can't be the only ones who carry the comedy, even if they're very likeable. Quill is mostly working through his issues with Gamora's semi-death, which I am glad is treated seriously. But that means he has less funny bits. Gamora is.... low-key annoying because she is a lot more rude than I was expecting. Sometimes I thought she hated the guardians (I understand why she's hostile towards Quill, with him insisting they were once madly in love). It felt a little out of character for her to be this mean, as she's supposed to be Gamora from Vol. 1. Idk, I guess the Ravagers rubbed off on her lol. Sadly, Gamora wasn't very likeable for me, but she did improve as the film went on. Groot exists. He does some cool stuff but mostly sits in the background waiting for the next battle.
Later I realized why the humor felt off is because Rocket isn't present. In the first two films, he's often the one who instigates a lot of the comedy. He bounces off of each guardian really well and is just a fun character. It's no wonder why he's a fan favorite! I understand why he's stuck in a coma, it's the whole point of the story for guardians to save his life, but I'm bummed out he was in it for so long. My sister suggested the idea of him being awake while his kill switch is slowly shutting his body down. There could still be that urgency, but also Rocket funny moments. I think the heist at OrgoCorp would've been a lot funnier if he was around. It could also make for some more drama. It would be interesting to see more and more of his past being dredged up against his will, as he tries to brush it off like it's no big deal, all while trying to ignore the increasingly unstable state of his body. He's not okay, but he's trying so hard to be. Until he finally collapses when the guardians make for Counter-Earth. I love the scene where Rocket reunites with Lylla. It's so powerful, and if I hadn't been watching with my family I probably would've cried hehe. All the flashbacks of Rocket's past was heart wrenchingly well done, holy cow. Props to Bradley Cooper for letting out one of the most primal screams I've ever heard in my life. Baby Rocket is such a tender soul that I wanted to go into the TV, beat up the High Evolutionary and take Rocket and Batch 89 home with me. My maternal instincts were going haywire lol.
I think the third act of the movie is the best part because Rocket's back and the guardians are kicking bad guy butt and saving people (in this case, clone kids and animals!). The High Evolutionary is such a slimy, horrendously vile villain that it feels so good when the guardians beat the crap outta him. We also get genuinely sweet Dad Drax moments ("You weren't meant to be a destroyer. You were meant to be a dad.") as he takes the kids under his wing. And we get some great Rocket moments as he discovers he really is a raccoon and lovingly carries the baby raccoons (ouuughhh my heart!!!). "The name's Rocket. Rocket Raccoon." is such a powerful line. All this time he thought he was a monster, but now he's embracing what and who he truly is!!!! I like how he insists the guardians save the animals too, and they do. And most of all, I love that Rocket lives. I'd read an out of context spoiler when Vol. 3 first came out back in May that Rocket dies. How unsatisfying would it be if he did? It honestly would feel like the High Evolutionary wins if Rocket dies. Movies nowadays kill off main characters for the shock and drama (even if it doesn't make sense). I'm so glad that Rocket is alive and he gets to flourish leading a new team. I'm honestly very satisfied with each guardian's ending. Quill reunites with his grandfather, Mantis goes on a journey of self-discovery, Drax becomes a father again, Nebula builds the home she never had, Gamora finds a new home with the Ravagers, and Groot and Rocket guide the next generation of the Guardians of the Galaxy.
Overall, I rate this movie a 8/10. It has its rough patches, but the final act wraps it up nicely.
(also sorry I forgot about Adam. he's neat. I wish he got more screentime. Everytime I see him I think of Eustace lol)
#toph musings#toph reviews#gotg#gotg vol 3#guardians of the galaxy#guardians of the galaxy vol 3#im not gonna add spoiler tags this time around bc it's all under a cut!#mcu

Star sign: One of them.
Favorite holiday: Idk man. World children's day. Or women's day. Those are pretty dope.
Last meal: Vegetable noodle stir fry. Unfortunately it didn't turn out as great as the one I made before with chicken.
Current favorite musician: Currently? Käärijä, with Bess as a close second.
Last music listened to: Riivattu by Bess is in my head right now so I guess we'll go with that. I may have ended my cooking session on Portrait of a Blank Slate by Lovejoy.
Last movie watched: Pirates of the carribean 3: at world's end. I suggested pirates, sister suggested the third one. A team effort on that.
Last TV show watched: Hannibal. Finished it and then watched the first episode again.
Last book/fic finished: Hot damn, haven't finished anything in a while. Most likely some fic, but I'm pretty sure out of books it is some social work theory book. Wish I had time to read more of those, they're really interesting, especially anything from a multicultural perspective.
Last book/fic abandoned: Any of my academic books really. Just no time to finish any of it.
Currently reading: Still going strong on Nabokov's Lolita (have not read a page in months). Also started up on the tenth book in the Fazbear frights series. Friendly Face is promising but I'm scared (hah) something bad will happen to the cat, so I am mentally preparing myself.
Last thing researched for writing/art/hyperfixation: I spent like good while looking at dozens of pictures and gifs of Bojan Cvjetićanin to get the curve of his eyelids right. Drawing is fun like that.
Favorite online fandom memory: I look fondly back on a lot of my fandom memories. Though nothing has had quite the same effect as this past year with the Kääryleet. I'll say the mcytsexyman brackets. That was a good time.
Wait no, I just remembered! There used to be a weekly post on the Dice Camera Action subreddit relating to the newest episode. And I just loved how engaged and wonderful and welcoming that whole fandom was. The fics, the theories, the fanart! It was such a shame to see it get so abandoned when things got tough. I've been enjoying seeing the resurgance, now that the dust has had time to settle.
Favorite Old Fandom You Wish Would Drag You Back In/Have A Resurgence: All my old fandoms have dragged me back these past few years, from Jedward to Fnaf. What am I supposed to do now?
Honestly, I'm just waiting for mcc to pull me back in.
Favorite Thing You Enjoy That Never Had an Active or Big "Fandom" but You Wish It Did: Sekasin. It's such a good series, I love it to bits.
Tempting Project You're Trying to Rein In/Don't Have Time For: I have a picture of Bess on my desk waiting for me to keep drawing. And then my billion other hobbies that obviously also need to be picked up. Most of all maybe the lace bed spread. Fucking forever project, that one.

Brennus’ personal thoughts on the FNAF Movie
For those going into the movie for the first time: don't expect it to all be super serious
⚠️SPOILERS AHEAD⚠️
Overall, I think it's a fun movie. It's what I expected from a 15+ fnaf movie. Did I wish it could have been more brutal? Yeah, but I'm ok with the product as it currently stands.
Visually wise this movie is incredible from the animatronics themselves to the set. Absolutely great. Jim Henson’s Creature Shop, my beloved, you have brought the robots to life perfectly <3
My smallest visual gripe was for one of the kid jump scares in Mike’s dream where the kid’s eyes turn and cry black. You could tell it was like a face paint. It's a real child actor so maybe they couldn't get them to wear ‘better’ makeup but then again special effects could have been used the improve it, idk. I'm not a filmmaker I'm just a silly skeleton that draws.
One of the least believable kills was the one where Freddy bit a woman in two. That was really cartoony to me, I did giggle.
My biggest criticism of the movie is probably the story. But the more I think about possible “improvements” I think to myself… what else could they have done for a script for a fnaf movie? They need to balance a combo of digestible info to new viewers but also satisfy fans. I personally think they managed to cater more to the fans as seen with rotten tomato ratings. But I did watch this with my mother who only knows the story based on what my brother rambles about and she managed the understand the movie alright. However I don't know any opinion on the film from an individual who knows nothing of the franchise.
I personally really enjoyed the atmosphere in the first part of the movie. It was depressing and oppressive to watch Mike struggle through life. But that seems to change as the movie seems to shifts in tone when we discover the animatronics are nice to his sister Abby. I at first really didn't like this but seconds later I got swooped up by the wholesomeness. I was scared that doing this would remove the intimidation factor the animatronic built up during the run time. It did. But I think I understand the purpose of doing this. I still don't think it was a good idea but I think I know what the movie makers were trying to do.
They were trying to shift the villainy focus from the robots to Afton. Trying to say “Hey look they are on the good guy's side” even though they shift on a dime when they decide to kidnap Abby. We also see them brutally hunt down a group of thieves so the whole “look how cute they are being <3” is somewhat unbelievable. I see what they likely tried to do but I don't think it worked super wonderfully.
I like the foxy arcade machine reference. I don't remember if this is a scene in a Fazbear Frights or the Silver Eyes book. But in a book foxy in hunting an AFAB character through an arcade area, in the book he breaks the machines as he gets closer to his victim to build tension. I think that's what that scene with Foxy and Abby in the arcade was in reference to. Though he didn't break the arcade machines in the movie, I thought that added a lot to the original scene. However it's understandable because the robots in this depiction seem to like to keep the pizzeria intact.
Also I saw that theif who got killed by Chica was wearing a midnight motorist shirt, I see you.
Everyone expected the William Afton reveal. What I didn't expect was for VANNESSA to be AFTON’S DAUGHTER. It felt like a very less serious “I am your father” moment, except it's a “he is my father” moment. I did giggle when the reveal happened. For me, this was a signifier that the movie wasn't trying to be serious. The movie is trying to be fun.
Though with that twist it made me wonder what it was like for Vannessa to live with a father like Afton. That's when I wished they did more with her, that's when she got interesting to me. As the movie makes it seem Afton holds a lot of emotional power over her. She knows he is a killer, she is a cop, yet she doesn't report him or arrest him herself. Her standing up to Afton at the end really feels like an abuse victim standing up against their abuser and I kinda wish they made that so much more impactful.
#fnaf movie#fnaf#fnaf movie spoilers#these are my own thoughts on the movie#you can disagree but I'm not here to have an argument

Wow this chapter was such a rollercoaster
First the video reader deleting it instead of using it against vision i was very interested to see which route you went with this cos on one hand vision should be punished for violating someone’s privacy that way but at the same time reader just doesn’t want to see it. I also wonder what readers paycheck looks like cos 800k is insane.
One of my favourite parts of the book wandas therapy. “Wandas resilience is a force to be reckoned with” damn right it is. Im glad calliope told her she’s a victim because what happened wasn’t okay and her feelings are valid because they absolutely are. This therapy session seemed one of the harder ones for wanda and i quite like it because it shows how recovery isn’t a straight line.
with the running club reader’s jealousy was not very discreet i mean the whole game thing as well trying to show her up then injuring yourself in the process💀(is it bad i kinda thought Valkyrie had something to do with reader not being picked to run in the marathon) and then Valkyrie pushing wanda to drink pissed me off i was screaming for reader to step in but oh my god they fumbled it. They didn’t have to say it like that man. Wanda’s struggles are personal she didn’t have to air it out to everyone its not fair to her when shes been putting in the effort to get help. Then what was said outside. I could’ve slapped y/n.
Sparky had me so scared i hate in booke and shows and movies when anything happens to a dog its so sad.
Now the juicy part
“It becomes perfectly clear to you that you love her and you never stopped. Not even then.” THANK YOU SHERLOCK YOU ARE THE LAST PERSON TO REALISE THIS. And then the kiss. Wow. I kinda expected it but im still shocked by it cos reader cheated. And poor wanda. “A hint of worry appears in wanda’s deep emerald eyes” she tried to stop it from happening and then the “this isn’t right” “you’re better than me” that just broke my heart. She can’t forgive herself (yet - i really hope she does one day). It just shows her growth because at the start she probably would’ve ran with it but now she’s put a stop to it even though it was probably so hard for her because shes still in love. Im worried yelena or nat are gonna label wanda a home wrecker even though she didn’t actually do anything in this case like i hope she doesn’t get treated poorly for reader’s decision.
Then yelena finding out. Reader was honest and told her immediately. And yelena reacted about as well as I expected her to. But and i hope I don’t sound like a bad person for this but i really agree with that other anon when they said what did she expect. I know that doesn’t excuse reader’s actions and im not trying to or invalidate yelenas feelings because her reaction is very natural. Im trying to say she jumped into this relationship with someone who was very emotionally unavailable. Someone who had a tragic end to a 10 year relationship and who didn’t have therapy to process that end. I think yelena was so obsessed with being with reader because of their past that it clouded her judgement to an extent (i say to an extent because she was cautious of wanda the whole time so she wasn’t completely blinded)
This brings me to the final thing something I could’ve addressed earlier but got way more complicated after the kiss. Natasha. Shes gonna kill y/n. Or wanda. Or both? Reader calling her earlier was sad because friendship breakups hurt so bad. At that point there was hope for fixing their friendship but i’m not so sure now because of that kiss. It sucks for reader it really does losing your best friend is one of the worst pains you can feel. I don’t feel reader’s completely at fault, for the cheating yes but I don’t think they should’ve been in that relationship to begin with. Yelena pursued them knowing what she was getting into and idk i kinda hope nat considers that part of it before she decides to cut reader out her life or something. Which is hard because yelena is her sister but she seems to forget reade is also her best friend ik its different for some people to some family is the most important to some its friends to some its both so its complicated.
Sometimes two souls are so intertwined that no matter the circumstances they just gravitate towards each other and there’s nothing any external forces (in this case yelena) can do about it. The heart wants what the heart wants.
Im eagerly awaiting chapter 17 i have been since you said reader would find out and oh my god seeing how this one went I absolutely can’t wait
-🧃
Hey there!
The 800k will partly be covered by R's insurance. I looked into it and basically they have insurance for that? like, it doesn't exist in my country so i went with that. probably R will be charged a participation fee though, im not sure
For the marathon lottery, it really is a lottery when you join any of the world major marathon events (london, new york, tokyo, berlin, chicago and boston) with only boston that is purely by qualification time to join. so val had nothing to do with reader not being picked in the lottery.
This is the same scene where I initially intended the dog to die, but I couldn't bring myself to. Sparky will be fine, no more scares from this point onward
Yelena - yes, i agree with you even though i feel bad about it. i keep saying this but ive literally been in yelena's shoes, our difference is just i decided not to pursue the person. a year later, i learned that this person cheated on the girl she dated after me. so i dodged a bullet on that one. i always had a feeling that i was just second choice.
Wanda is so strong in this chapter but she's not going to magically turn into someone with the most self control in this story, but it's not going to be bad either..
Natasha is a bit indifferent to Wanda because she knows reader had the choice to stay away if she really wanted to. but anyway, i can't say much without spoiling some details
Whew that was long! but thank you so much for taking the time to give me your observations. I treasure each of them!

Okay I'm back! So the musicals I watched were Merrily, The Outsiders and the Notebook! They were all really good and had different things I loved about them. But unfortunately it was kinda out of order or took me a while to watch. The first one I started with was Merrily and my sister fell asleep like 20 minutes in so I turned it off since I always wanna watch with her. The next day I somehow found Outsiders and got really excited so I wanted to watch that..my sister got tired again lol. The next day during some downtime I told my sister to catch up on Merrily so we did and watched Act one. My sister gets tired again. The next day I found a Notebook one! We were drinking cuz I thought it might help her stay awake so I suggested going back to Outsiders cuz we were more familiar with that show and it matched the vibes somewhat. She mostly stayed up until the last 30 minutes which I ended up watching anyway. Then I suggested watching The Notebook cuz she napped earlier so it made sense to watch the longest one compared to finishing Merrily which we did. At this point we still havent finished all of Merrily but I thought I should reply to you by now lol. But I enjoyed them all but they were all different..it would be hard to rank. I'm pretty sure The Outsiders was my favorite but I'm also really familiar with the show at this point..like I've read parts of the script to figure out the differences between the book and movie before watching the show so I knew the dialogue. I will definitely send it to you whenever you're ready for it. So in a way that was a little distracting actually and because of that it felt like the show was going so fast and from song to song but that's cuz I knew it so well already. I felt that with the Notebook only a little, from knowing the plot, but it wasn't like I knew what exact song was coming when..there were some songs I couldn't remember lol. Unfortunately the quality was kinda bad but it got better in Act 2. The act two definitely seemed shorter and faster though..almost like am I missing something or we were already at a certain part so idk. Also it did switch timelines a few times and I guess that makes sense..otherwise they would only be in act 2, but still. I guess I wasn't giving it my full attention or something. Also I did not notice the change to the 1970s at all. I think I wasn't in the mood to watch it either..itbdidnt feel as emotional to me as it could have. Merrily was fun cuz I didn't know what to expect and went in pretty blind but I also got confused with the timeline a little bit. I do love the characters and some songs though and I liked it. I just didn't love it yet I think and I want to. Basically all of them might need a rewatch lol, Outsiders just cuz I like it haha. Idk what's wrong with me but I love them all. I also wanted to mention that Ryan Vasquez was actually a part of the Outsiders musical as the oldest brother before it went to Broadway but I guess he ended up choosing the Notebook but I think that would've been pretty interesting. I think he fits middle Noah very well though.
I can't believe you haven't watched Little shop before! My first introduction was the movie which I love. But I'm not sure what you would think about it. It's also another of those musicals where the age is pretty vague which you mentioned about Mattress lol. I actually put that in the ask that didn't get sent..having no idea you weren't familiar with the show lol. If you don't know the show, do you listen to the cast album first or usually just watch the bootleg? Just curious cuz I always try to find a bootleg first. But it made me wonder what it would be like to listen without context of the show. I would recommend the movie too though.
So I didn't have a chance to go to Wicked which is okay cuz I've already seen it. I'm not going to watch Joker 2 either but I did the Lady Gaga album. At this point idk what my next show is..but hoping for Hamilton. The new Warriors cast album came out too and i'm interested in that but I've never seen the movie. another thing I try to do is watch the movie a musical is based on to compare it as well. I'm not sure when I will get to it though..maybe by Halloween. I hope you have a good time at your shows..that's awesome. Im not sure if Im going to be able to see Back to the future yet. I listened to Brat and my favorites were the same as the ones you mentioned before even hearing it lol. what were your favorites? What else have you been listening to? I listened to The Last Dinner Party finally and Pale Waves this week. I also would recommend Orla Gartland's new album but I think I preferred the first album a little more. Omg well the first album i heard was Color Theory and the first song was Yellow is the Color of her eyes which I love a lot. But yes you can go in order but she also has some unreleased songs from unofficial albums I really love too. I think I'll just recommend a few from each album. Molly Ringwald, Henry, Switzerland, Try, Waiting For Cars, Scorpio Rising, Still Clean, Yellow is the color of her eyes, Circle the Drain, Shotgun, and Fire in the Driveway. Out of the new songs, my favorite is called M. I hope you like them if you do check it out. I will be listening to her and Halseys albums this next week. I think Halsey's vision and the impersonation theme is really cool so I'm also excited for it. I hope you have an awesome weekend!
welcome back 🤍 i always love hearing your thoughts!
i love merrily! i am so excited that we're getting a proshot. i hope you'll give it another go! i am unsurprised that you like the outsiders the most (said affectionately with love) and am really excited to get into it hopefully before the year is over. the notebook my beloved. it's definitely more simple/less ~ flashy ~ than the others, but i love it so much. the first time i saw it i wasn't super emotional about it but then i listened to the cast recording later and wept. and now it's one of my favorite shows (i know, shocker, tumblr user notebookmusical loves the notebook musical). and it definitely hits different in person! i hope you get to see it on tour 🤍
i was actually reading about ryan vasquez earlier because i was trying to find an answer to something (was unsuccessful) and found this — in response to "We hear you had a choice to work on a few Broadway shows, including The Notebook, and The Notebook won. Why was it the winner?", which i think is interesting:
Ryan Vasquez: Since beginning work on The Notebook in 2020, I have been consistently struck by the impact the piece has on people, especially men, who are struggling in alarming ways with regulating emotions and expressing vulnerability right now. The show is many things, but above all, it is profoundly moving. And not just because it's a love story, though the romance is moving in its way. It's a deeply human story about life and loss and love in all its forms, and I wanted to be a part of something that had that impact.
oh i should add little shop to my list of things to listen to this week! i just keep forgetting, honestly! i usually listen to things when i walk my dog or when i'm at work but then sometimes i get distracted/sucked into work or i just end up looping the same album for hours... oops! if i don't know a show well, and if there's a bootleg available, i'll usually just watch the bootleg if i can but lately i've been doing cast recording first, then bootleg if i'm still interested!
i am seeing wicked next month, and i've got my tickets for the wicked movie for the day after thanksgiving! so it will be a very wicked month haha. i haven't listened to warriors yet either; let me know if it's worth listening to! i listened to the new orla gartland!! one of my friends loves her, so it was fun — my favorites were sound of letting go, the hit, and everybody needs a hero. and i have jotted down your recs hehe!
very intrigued to hear your halsey/TGI thoughts! i got to listen to the album early and loved it so much. i think it's probably my second favorite halsey album (badlands is soooo special to me 🤍).

Voiceplay-adjacent Visuals: Far Over The Misty Mountains Cold and I See Fire
Yep, you're getting a two-in-one today! Think of it as an Easter treat!
I wasn't sure if I would have much to say about Misty Mountains, but I did want to talk about I See Fire, and felt like I couldn't talk about one without the other, so I'm combining them into one post!
Geoff's cover of Far Over The Misty Mountains Cold was uploaded on July 4th, 2021, and it's currently the most popular video on his channel, with over 20 million views! The song features in the movie "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey", and was also in the original book by JRR Tolkien (though note I haven't read any of the books or seen any of the films, so my expertise in that regard is limited). Let's go!
(Love a good title intro)
This was filmed at Pattycake Productions Studios, and though I can't confirm it, I would not be surprised if this set has been used in a Voiceplay video at some point as well
Also let's take a closer look at those outfits; they look familiar, don't ya think?
Same shirt/top thing! With the silver rings in a diamond pattern!
(Btw massive shoutout to Rick Underwood (again) for hair and makeup, I can still barely believe that all 4 people in this video are Geoff tbh (and shoutout to Geoff himself for both editing and acting, because both those things help as well!))
The grey fur thing reminds me of what Geoff was wearing in My Mother Told Me, but I don't think it's the same
Oh and here's the other half of Layne's outfit from My Mother Told Me! See the fur and the patterned sleeve cuff thing? It's the same!
Not the best picture, as I just went through my screencaps from previous posts, but yes the chestplate thing that Lead Geoff is wearing in Misty Mountains was also worn by Cesar a couple of years later in Valhalla Calling!
Group shot!
Also love how second-from-the-right Geoff (idk what character he's meant to be, don't @ me) is fiddling with his little knife/sword/dagger for practically the whole video
The smug look of "the note I'm about to hit will shake your speakers and vibrate your internal organs!" 😝
And that's Far Over The Misty Mountains Cold! Told you I didn't have a lot to say about it, but it provides a good foundation for the second video I'll be talking about in this post!
Geoff's cover of I See Fire was released on the 10th of June, 2023, almost 2 years after his cover of Misty Mountains. (What is it with Geoff/Voiceplay doing follow-up "sister" videos two years later? 😅) "I See Fire" was actually originally performed by Ed Sheeran (Geoff takes it in a fairly different direction vocal-wise of course (though not completely without high parts!)), and plays at the end of the second Hobbit film, The Desolation of Smaug. Again, not familiar, but I recommend watching this video if you want a bit more insight into the characters that Geoff portrays!
Guess who got credited with lighting automation for this one? Go on, guess! It's the one and only Eli Jacobson again!
(Oh and also apparently that's a "carpet" of real pine needles on the floor? Goddamn the dedication)
These two are from the Misty Mountains video! (The one on the right here is apparently Thorin Oakenshield)
Although Lead Geoff is playing a different character here to the one he played in Misty Mountains, he's wearing the same chestplate (the one Cesar wore in Valhalla Calling). (Also love the continuation of Lead Geoff being the one with little to no facial hair 👌)
(Also you can see his white-grey streak in this one!)
I mean the lighting choices really make this one. Well done Eli!
Like goddamn look at this!
(Oh and for the record, I'm still in partial denial about everyone except Lead Geoff actually even being Geoff here 😂)
Okay, well didn't have a ton to say about that one either, but with two videos in one post, it makes a decent length, so hope you enjoyed this Hobbit double-feature!
Some people are wondering if Geoff will at some point make a cover from the third Hobbit movie, The Battle Of The Five Armies, to round out the trilogy, so to speak. Bets are on The Last Goodbye, which I'm listening to right now out of curiosity, and oh Geoff could do gorgeous things with it, make no doubt about it. But we'll just have to wait and see (hopefully not wait too long though!) Next post will probably be a longer one, but also lots of fun! Stay tuned!

my new years resolutions
(Yes it took me 2 weeks into 2024 to materialize this and for some reason im putting this on tumblr for all to see. Idk why ok here we go)
Listen to more classical music cause it makes me feel good, also listen to more indie artists that make chill music for the same reason as stated earlier.
Listen to less anything else (god please dont get home from your draining and dead end job and fall into a mindless coma listening to video game ost that you liked 5 years ago ever again for like the whole rest of the day)
eat more fruit and vegetables, its better for the environment and also it helps you not get rashes and coughing and heartburn constantly thats making you miserable and slowly killing you cause of coca cola and mcdonalds and many other evil brands that want everyone to be unalive
watch more cute cartoons and look at flowers outside and little critters, listen to people on the bus and train and be nicer and friendlier even if you dont feel up to it, it will make things better
watch deep and meaningful movies and read good and meaningful books. No, you dont have a 'favourite genre' that you have to watch things of, just enjoy yourself for once instead of trying to make your behaviour fit your personality, which barely exists anyways
Dont buy stuff you dont need. No, i dont need 2 packs of cookies cause they are 30% off. In fact, you need 0 packs of cookies cause even if you get 1 pack youll eat it all immediately and get sick so whats the point. Just buy stuff that will actually get made into an enjoyable meal and not snacks that will make life suck more.
Dont wonder why you are here or why god is tormenting you ( if you believe in god, which changes constantly, its like a 50-50 coin toss every day). Just think about something to look forward to
And that leads into this point, which is a continuation of resolution number 6: dont buy stuff at all actually. Dont make a budget plan, just try and spend no money cause your future is uncertain my dude, me, I
Get into poetry. Remember when you were in that book club in school? And they read poetry all the time and you were like: eh i dont get it and why am i even here if they wont let me talk about the golden compass which was my fave book at the time( they did let me talk about it but most of the club was poetry). But now i finally get it. Poetry is like music or art. Its so beautiful. I dont know why i am such an idiot that it took me a quarter of a century to finally get poetry. But now i want to read and learn. And maybe even write my own and inspire others to discover this truly magical world. Its so much more than just words, stories, or information or emotion. Do you think i could get my sister to read poetry? Or maybe even some colleagues at work? Can I make enough money this year to keep living on my own or will i have to beg other people who dont like me to let me move back in? If this job doesnt work out, can i find another one that pays enough for me to feel safe? Will i fall back into depression somewhere along my path? Or will something unexpected and good happen? Maybe i will find people who like me despite my neurotic and unloving and apathetic (and pathetic) nature? Or will something bad happen? Will I live?
This is not a new resolution just me ending this post. I hope you have a better life than me and a great year. Best wishes!

My Top Posts in 2022:
Did you mean my only original post this year, tumblr?
So I was sitting and thinking about the weird things we do and don’t consider child appropriate. And I was also wondering if I ever read anything as weird as Animorphs apparently was and yeah actually I think I did.
Do y’all remember “The Guardians of Ga’Hoole” by Kathryn Lasky? Those random owl books that were apparently popular enough to make into a movie? I read all 16 of those and they got wild. Spoilers btw
The series starts with our protagonist, Soren, who is a baby. He wants to practice flying, his parents tell him he’s still too young he doesn’t have the right feathers yet. They leave to go hunting and Soren sits at the edge of the nest, fantasizing, thinking about trying it anyway, before he decides he slips and falls to the ground. So he tries to hide and wait for his parents to come save him, but he gets kidnapped by a group of owls called St, Aggie’s Orphanage. Who take children and brainwash them. These kids are forced to be active and doing stuff during they day (they are owls) and then at night instead of sleeping their forced to march in circles in a special chamber until they get “moon sickness” Eventually, Soren and three other kids teach themselves how to fly and escape searching legendary Guardians of Ga’Hoole to help them take down the evil orphanage. And that’s literally just the first book.
speedrunning the rest of the books, Soren is reunited with his old house keeper, a blind snake named Mrs. Plithiver, who tells him his parents have been murdered by an owl eugenics cult and his older brother and younger sister are missing. I am not kidding when I say eugenics. They were called The Pure Ones. They had an entire cast system built around around the tyto owl genus, with barn owls being the most “pure” and every other speices being increasingly dehumanized (deowlfied?) and if you weren’t tyoto at all you basically had to die, So any way, Soren finds he didn’t fall, he was push by his brother as an intiatian into the pure ones and rises through the ranks to become their leader. The pure ones and the orphanage decide to team up, the Ga’hoole go undercover, and in book six both organizations are basically reduced to nothing. Also somewhere in there there is something about iron filament putting off enough magnetism to mess with how their brains work in it’s very not good. But finally Soren gets to retire to be a dad.
Book seven we get a new protagonist. Coryn, the kid who was being groomed to be the heir of the now defunct eugenics cult. Despite them being basically nothing anymore his Mom is still raising him like the pure one can make a come back (think Kovu from the lion king 2). But something happens that Coryn decides that this is not for him, and he runs away to find out what the world is actually like. Okay, so these next bits I had to read the wiki to figure out. Coryn has the ability to see the future when staring into fire, he decides he needs to catch a special kind of coal from an active volcano, which he does, and then he takes it to Ga’Hoole to become their king. Also he kills his mom by shoving her into the path of a rabid wolf. There’s a lot happening their the the wiki is not jogging my memory enough to put any of that into context.
books 9-11 are a prequal arc about how coal catching became a thing, the developemnt of back smithing in owl society (those two things have been happening the entire i just haven’t felt the need to bring them up) and how Ga’Hoole was founded to fight Hagsfied, magic demon owl/crow hybrids. And some worldbuilding on how dire wolf society works, That has also been in the background the entire time. Note sure when it was introduced but was really important in Coryn’s section I guess
Back into the present Coryn and the original four owls we followed go looking for a magic book used by an Arch-hagsfied, Meanwhile back at Ga’Hoole, owls start worshiping the special ember Coryn caught like it’s a golden calf. They make up increasingly elaborate rituals and they built a prison overnight for anyone who is blasphemous towards it. The Band + Coryn come home, are horrified tear everything down and the special coal is thrown into a pile of less cool coals but nobody seems to beable to tell the difference and grab it out.
Book 13 a secret owl kingdom is discovered. The band, Coryn, and another owl named Otulissa are guided there for a visit by a blue owl called “The Striga”. Turns out all of the owls there are blue, but some of them have weird long feathers and can’t fly without the assistance of kites. The last remnants of the pure ones apparently stalked our protags to the new kingdom. Striga kills one of them which is a big no no, so he gets banished and our heroes take him home with them.
Ah, from there on out things become very, there is “no war in Ba Sing Se” As Striga gains influence over Coryn. The Band is banished and mass book burning are instituted. The Band tries to figure out how to fix this and discover the hagsfied are not gone, Striga is one of them. And the blue owls from the secret kingdom lived very specific lifestyles to keep the hags from remembering there were evil. It’s why to no bloodshed rule was important, it maybe woke his magic? IDK the wiki is really bad for this book, some of these discoveries were maybe made in the previuos one? And the next book in the wiki is hyper detailed and I tl:dr-ed it because it’s 1am.
Anyway, anything that comes from the secret kingdom is bad new. Coryn’s mother is actually not dead and teams up with them. I guess there’s another war. The Ga’Hoole recruit a bunch of other species to help them fight the combined forces of the hag owls and the pure ones, and some where in that Coryn drops the sacred ember back into the volcano they got he it from.
And the last book is a prequel about Ezylryb. A famous in universe blacksmith.
This post was not supposed to be this long. It was supposed to be a"wow adults let me read a 16 book war series about way eugenics is bad actually and it wasn’t considered to dark for children?” But I ended up summarizing the whole series ‘cause it’s even weirder than I remember. And now this post is too long and I don’t want to get started on the spin-off series “Wolves of the Beyond” which is a six book series about why ableism is bad actually. Wolf society in these books is very ableist even in the owl-centric books it comes up decently often.
So yeah, this was one of my favorite series when I was kid and I think I started reading them when I was seven. I eagerly awaited the next book coming out and I legitimately don’t think my Mom ever checked what they were about. They were just the owl books I liked.

my policeman thoughts!! under cut bc idk how long it will be. not that long though i think.
general thoughts:
-my fav characters were patrick and julia, though obvi marion remains my fav just looking at it from the movie-standpoint
-it took me some time t get out my own head analyzing the main trio and asking myself if i thought they were doing well, etc but after abt 30 minutes i was able to ease into the story. kinda same as dwd but i think dwd took less time (possibly cus i was also in a dark theater w no ability to pause and consider anything)
-the pacing felt off to me i know i complained abt the movie length but i wish things had been given more time. i get what they were doing w marion and patrick’s perspectives but i dont think it was as effective and didnt translate from the book for me
-book was better, of course
-movie did not have enough julia!!! far from it. i want endless julia
-marion was done so dirty tbh the hints at her not being straight were almost completely gone (julia was obvious, but i feel like in the book marion is also clearly read as not straight)
-i love marion and patrick being parallels to each other. not just in regards to tom, but how they’re more often allies than not. how julia points out their similar interests. in my head marion looks at patrick, sees these parallels, and wonders what else they have in common.
-even having been done dirty marion is The Most Interesting character in the movie. so many scenes it was clear there was an internal struggle going on, which im reading as her quest for heterosexuality, fighting to maintain her marriage, questioning of herself, her relationship to julia and patrick, etc. adored her.
-i did not cry. soz to everyone who did but twas not that emotion-evoking to me.
harry acting:
-fairly good i think!! awkward at parts, but for the most part it didnt distract me. again like dwd i found him best in very emotive scenes like anger, sadness, internal conflict, etc and least effective in routine or sincere scenes (like when he’s just having a conversation, or standing around, etc)
-i know ppl had words abt his accent but tbh i dont have the kind of ear for accents or to say if harry was doing well or not, or if he was talking more in his natural accent or an altered one so. it wasnt an issue for me. sometimes i thought he sounded weird but i actually think im just not used to him enunciating so much.
how i would make it shorter bc why in the hell was it 2 hours:
-sorry to the older versions of tom/marion/patrick, but Were It My Movie, i would have just eliminated the whole past vs present, retrospective aspect. i dont feel like its as effective in movie format, whereas the whole concept of letters telling their stories in the book works for me. i dont think the later scenes added much 2 the movie and if anything opened up more confusion for me.
-for example, when older tom sees nigel and (presumably) his boyfriend in the shop, is that meant to be like....his first time seeing a gay couple existing openly? after like 40 years from the younger story line? what?>??
-in the last 20 minutes where older marion is like. Explaining everything? bad ending. could have done w/o that. marion leaving to her sister’s>?? bad, try again. when its younger tom standing w older patrick so its like. a mirage idk?? Bad. hated that pls take it back.
-just cut the last 15 minutes. honestly.
