spotlight: SAGA
Our spotlight for today is on NH's first and only original group as of now, SAGA. Dubbed the "Queens of Girl Crush" they have made their mark as one of the best selling, most acclaimed and popular girl groups in K-Pop history.
Their debut as NH's first girl group was highly theorized on and anticipated. The group went through many different lineup changes while NH tried to make sure their first group would be the best it could. NH wanted a group that was versatile talent and concept wise, though they. They were met with pretty fast success that they have sustained with frequent releases and promotions. In more recent years the girls have begun to shift to more solo ventures, but remain close and supportive of one another. Rumors have been spreading that some or all of the girls plan to depart from NH, but none have been confirmed. Their last comeback was in May 2022, and fans are desperate for another release from the international superstars.
MEMBERS
Kim Mia aka "Mia": Leader, Main Vocalist, Lead Dancer
Born 1995 in Toronto, Canada
Rumored to be related to an executive at NH, but that has never been confirmed or denied
She had the longest training person (6 years), highly anticipated debut. She was called "Mini-Hwa" pre-debut because of her vocal skills.
The first member release solo music, starting with Happy in 2020.
Has been publicly dating NOON's Jaewon since June 2023.
Known in the fandom as the "dad" of SAGA, since she shows her love in more quiet and subtle ways. She is very protective and supportive of the other members.
Lee Soyeon aka "Soul": Lead Rapper, Sub Vocalist, Visual
Born 1996 in Daegu, South Korea
Has gone on multiple health related hiatuses
Well known actor and model, established her own clothing brand "RE:Born" in 2021 under NoHarm
Known in the fandom as the "mom" of SAGA. When they lived in the dorms she would often cook and clean for the members. "Without Soul, our dorm would look like a boy group" - Angel (Vlive, 2017)
Bae Eunji aka "Jiji": Main Dancer, Vocalist, Rapper, Center
Born 1996 in Seoul, South Korea
Often leads group dance practice sessions and is known to be very strict.
Has a background in theater, started doing musicals in 2020 under her birth name "Bae Eunji"
She is a part of the group's sub-unit, So Far, with Angel
Voted as the most unlike her on stage persona (she's shy and introverted off stage)
Kittikhun Wattayachit aka "Luna": Main Rapper, Producer
Born 1997 in Bangkok, Thailand
Her debut marked her as NH's first and only non-Korean idol.
Since 2019 she has written on all of SAGA's albums and is a well known writing for other groups/artists.
Almost left Next Hit & SAGA after not being paid for the songwriting and producing she began participating in for SAGA in 2018. She has since negotiated with NH and paid for all of her previous writing credits.
She is the most private about her personal life. The members did not meet her family members until 5 years after the group's debut when they had a concert in Thailand.
Kim Soomin aka "Angel": Lead Vocalist, Maknae
Born 1997 in Seoul, South Korea
She was not in the original lineup of SAGA (as shown in the original pre-release song, 4 Walls), but was added right before debut after only 6 months of training.
Before debut she was a child actor and starred in many commercials and had small roles in dramas.
She is a part of the group's sub-unit, So Far, with Jiji.
She has a large presence in variety shows, and hosts her own radio show.
She is the most social member (voted by members), but also the most tardy. As a rookie, the group had a rule that you had to pay 500 won for every minute they were late to practice, Angel had to pay 30,000 won over six months.

i’ve seen relationship therapists and psychologists analyse hermione and ron’s relationship and conclude that they wouldn’t work out in the long run. they’ve argued for hermione to be with harry, krum, even DRACO (don’t understand how a counsellor can vow for canon dramione but alright) as an alternative partner for hermione since ron is “too insecure” to be with her and match her intelligent prowess or what have you.
i seriously don’t understand this sentiment. ron and hermione genuinely seem (almost) perfect to me, maybe not in the movies (a common denominator of people who don’t like romione is that they always cite evidence from the movies, since the films took a lot away from ron’s character and his growth), but definitely in the books.
looking at ron’s insecurities, a lot of people dredge his inferiority complex up to toxic masculinity primarily, when it was more explored how it was an effect of his home life (not gonna argue toxic masculinity wasn’t a factor, they’re teenagers in the 90s written by a pretty misogynistic woman so…). he was the youngest son out of how many children? all of his older brothers were brilliant in some way. bill was an extremely gifted spellcaster, charlie was gifted with magical beasts, percy’s academic score was unmatched, and fred and george (despite their trouble) were entrepreneurial inventor-geniuses. ron, on the other hand, was quite literally born a disappointment to his mother, who conceived him specifically because she wanted a daughter, whilst ginny was born her favourite (though, even then, ginny was gifted at quidditch). ron was mediocre in every sense of the word, and his two best friends were harry (one of the most famous wizards) and hermione (the smartest witch of her age yada yada). and i’ve seen people argue that harry was more welcomed by molly into the weasley household than ron ever was. this isn’t even mentioning the amount of bullshit he copped for being poor (people always downplay the blow to confidence being in poverty can have on a person who is constantly surrounded by people who not only have more, but look down on him for simply being unlucky as to not have what they do).
so yeah, ron was an envious kid, but he was that way not because he was an evil patriarchal conception but because he was lowkey neglected. and even then he was overall an extremely devoted and loyal friend to both harry and hermione, because he did genuinely love them.
there were many moments of ron standing up for hermione that was cut from the films, not as a guy who was romantically interested in her, but as a friend. ron arguing with snape for making hermione cry is one of my fav scenes in the books ru kidding me, and in the movies he AGREED with snape RU KIDDING ME. not to mention how ron was a sobbing violent mess when hermione was getting tortured in the last book, whereas he wasn’t nearly as bothered in the films. and the films cut out harry being a dick to ron about his familial concerns (in dh), so when ron left it seemed like a random dickish move over his jealousy towards harry and hermione’s relationship.
there’s also a million moments where they minimised ron’s usefulness in the books for comedic purposes (forbidden forest with aragog, troll scene, devils snare scene) so ron seems dumber than he is. like, he’s actually smart and a really good spellcaster…. in the books.
so simply by stating this most of the arguments against romione become void. “he’s too stupid/weak for her” simply not true. “he’s a terrible friend who doesn’t stand up for her” also not true. “he’s too insecure to have made a move on her,” yes, but given the context i don’t think people would freak on about ron’s upbringing, i think many would be more understanding, especially considering his growth. even if he wasn’t insecure, hermione is beyond incredible and is bound to make anyone nervous when pursuing her (not an excuse for ron to act like a dick, but it does explain a lot where the movies don’t). “they argue too much” they bump heads, none of the arguments they have are actually super damning, with the exception of ron leaving in deathly hallows.
maybe i’ve covered everything (excluding the abhorrent amount of classism that clouds people’s judgments around how they view ron when harping about how hermione deserves better? hopefully).
now, i know people won’t like me mentioning the cursed child, but i’m going to considering we actually get an insight of their life as a longterm married couple there. a lot of ron stans hated how ron was the only character that wasn’t doing something incredible. harry was head of the aurors, ginny was a famous quidditch player retired to a famous journalist, neville was a hogwarts professor, hermione was quite literally minister on magic. and ron…. ran the joke shop with george.
and i think this was almost the perfect route to go down for ron. because he was average, and was perfectly fine with just being average. hello?? that speaks leagues of growth for his character. he’s supportive of hermione’s work, he grounds her when she gets too caught up in being the literal president of wizarding society, and he still viciously defends her, minister or not. in fact, he’s proud to simply be known as hermione’s husband because he doesn’t feel the need to prove to anyone else his worth. the people he loves most know his worth, hermione never downplays or underestimates him, they are complete equals in the relationship in every single way that matters. they kept ron’s best qualities whilst making him seem more of a healed person. they work so well as a married couple without it seeming like mischaracterisation (not to mention the cursed child literally shows how those two are in love in every reality, so there quite literally can’t be a better partner for hermione or ron according to canon).
so i really don’t understand how professional relationship counsellors can go online and denounce it. probs because they only watched the movies, but it’s 2023 and ron stans should not STILL be fighting for their lives trying to defend him from people who simply don’t consume media with as much depth (which is fine, but one should clarify if they’re talking about the movies because i’ve seen people state they’re talking about the hp BOOKS when it’s simply just…. the films). anyways. romione on top, thanks to coming to my ted talk.

BASIL (OMORI) — A STUDY & ANALYSIS ON HIS CHARACTER
(content warning — OMORI spoilers, mentions of death and hanging, mentions of suicidal behavior and suicide, mentions of self-harm, mentions of physical and verbal abuse (bullying), mentions of child neglect. please proceed with caution.)
( PARTS WILL BE REBLOGGED INSTEAD OF POSTED ALL AT ONCE. it’s needed because compared to the 7 photos of proof that the last analysis had, this one has 47 (48, when considering the thumbnail image). sorry for the inconvenience ! )
Tumblr media
I. BASIL’S CHILDHOOD
Due to the nature of OMORI being mainly only in Sunny’s perspective, we do not have many solid and/or canon scenes of Basil’s childhood before he met the friend group. However, there are things in-game that do imply Basil hasn’t exactly had the best childhood. Starting off with what Polly says about Basil’s parents:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Basil’s lived with his grandma since he was a toddler.” / “His parents don’t ever seem to be home”
Intentional or not—this does qualify as child neglect, which counts as abuse, even if unintentional. While they do care enough for Basil to leave him to his grandmother, and while they do care enough for Basil to hire a caretaker when it was evident that his grandmother wouldn’t hold out and survive for any longer, it’s not enough. This is not to say that they didn’t try—but, instead to say that they didn’t try enough.
Basil is implied to have been affected by this in some form or another, as seen by the comment he made on his photo album:
Tumblr media
“I took photos of what I was most afraid to lose.”
This comment about the photo album confirms the existence of his fear of abandonment and losing the things he loved even before the incident. While you may argue that he’s too young to figure it out before that, children are curious. Before he met the friend group, he will, at some point, ask questions when he does see his other peers with their parents. He will ask why his grandmother looks different from the rest, and ask who that male figure is near their children (he never did get a father figure, after all.).
Tumblr media
“I only knew what it was like to be alone.”
While this may have been said by Headspace Basil, it does confirm the fact that Basil never really had friends before, and does also imply Basil not having much of a connection to his grandmother. While yes, they do connect, they do at least love one another due to how she does care about him as a mother figure, it might have not been as deep as the connections he had for his friends. She does love him, and he loves her too—especially since she was his only family, but sometimes, bonds formed by connections go deeper than blood.
It’s also pretty clear that all he ever wished for was connections, which is seen through this!
Tumblr media
“But what should I wish for? I have everything I could want right here!”
He mentions that the friend group he now has is everything he ever wished for, which does imply that since having a friend group is essentially connecting to others, and forming a strong bond with them through experiences with on another
Basil did most likely have to grow up a lot faster than the rest of the group—excluding Mari and Hero. This is evident by how he behaves more humble and polite than the rest of them—In a sense, he can be considered an “older brother” figure to the friend group, which is seen by how he does have a sense of wanting to protect them and take care of them. Which is seen even in the Basil fight, as seen by this:
Tumblr media
The need to protect and care is seen here, and with how Sunny is the youngest of the group and with how they’ve experienced so much together, it’s most likely strengthened! How he likes taking care of things such as flowers and plants also does prove his need to care and protect! He’s also shown to want to help others, and shown to worry if his help just burdens other people, like here!
Tumblr media
Basil also seems to worry if his issues would burden others—a negative side to being an “older brother” of sorts. Sometimes, if you view yourself as someone who needs to care and help others, you become afraid to show your vulnerable side in fear that you will become a burden to them, as well as in fear that you will be unreliable to them, which is seen here!
Tumblr media
“Sometimes I feel like I’m bothering him”
He fears bothering others with his problems, he wants to make sure that they’re comfortable with him venting to them—he cares about them so much, even when he’s the one who needs reassurance.
Basil also does also serve as a peacemaker in the friend group, as shown by this:
Tumblr media
While this is said by Headspace Basil, it also still does apply to Pre-Incident Basil, who does seem to dislike conflict as well. It’s also seen in Post-Incident Faraway Basil with how he asks, although it’s more wanting to avoid conflict plus fearing the person for reasons that will be explained in another part of this essay.
Most of these do imply that Basil has been at least a bit more mature than when compared to Kel, Aubrey, and Sunny! This does also provide a reason to why he’s often grouped with Mari, and Hero, who are like the ‘Mom and Dad’ of the group!
( Though this doesn’t have much of something that backs it up, another interesting thing is how the “Everything will be okay…” thing seems to stem from his childhood. We aren’t given much in-game, but a possible theory that someone suggested to me once is that maybe his family has a tradition to pretend that everything’s alright. Or it was drilled into him not to talk about bad experiences and stuff. But the theory is plausible, especially since it looks like there’s “nothing wrong” until you dive deeper into his character :3 )

My love! I have something in my mind. I like Elain as a character, I wouldn't say I love her we don't know much about her for me to say i love her.
yet a couple of things bothered me when speaking about Elain. One of them is the flower thing. I will not bring up the neglect of Feyre because that's on another point. But the fact that people say she could've planted crops and not flowers. While this is a valid point, I seem to recall the one who brought Elain the flower seeds.. was Feyre.. so if we're going to say "Elain should've planted crops" shouldn't we say Feyre should've bought her crops?
The second thing is more for the neglect to care for Feyre as the youngest, while she wasn't as cold as Nesta, and Feyre herself says so. It was always interesting to me, how when it came to Elain the IC would say things like "Elain is different" Rhys himself said this. What is so different about Elain's situation? Is it because she chose to stay with them? is technically acting as one of the shadow twins, cleaning learning, and caring? which may be a way to make amends and this is why is different.
IDK what do you think about this, my love
I've missed your asks!!! I agree with your first point. Feyre bought Elain the seeds so if planting vegetables was such an obvious thing to do than why did Feyre buy Elain flower seeds? Yes, she knew Elain loved flowers however she had no issues asking for help in other ways (asking Nesta to chop wood for example). So why not say, "I'm going to buy you vegetables too, could you try to grow them?" I do think Sarah also addressed this entire thing later in ACOTAR, when the sisters are in their new estate and Elain says she'd like to plant a vegetable garden by the greenhouse if she could learn enough about it over the next few months. For whatever reasons, it doesn't seem like it was feasible for Elain to grow a garden in their cottage. To your second point, I think what Rhys is saying boils down to what Sarah has been telling us about Elain all along (in the books and in interviews). Rhys is Illyrian and knows he will do whatever is necessary to protect his people. Feyre, as his mate (and now with Illyrian anatomy) will do whatever is necessary to protect their people. The IC will do whatever is necesary to protect the people. It doesn't matter if they need to lie, steal or murder, they will become monsters to do what needs done. Rhys tells Feyre that Elain is Elain and Nesta is Illyrian at heart. To me that means that Nesta is exactly like the rest of the IC, he senses in her the ability to do whatever needs done to protect those she loves and it bothers him that she didn't follow through with that in the human lands. In contrast Elain is not written as morally gray (not like the others). She is not willing to do whatever needs to be done at any cost, it seems her character has limits. She's not revenge seeking, cruelty bothers her, etc. That's not to say Elain isn't just as strong but her strength lies elsewhere, in her kindness and generosity, her willingness to apologize for her mistakes, her ability to see everyone's POV (not just this person or that person because of her relation to them), offer forgiveness, to openly express her affections (something Sarah even mentioned in interviews, where Nesta and even Feyre found it difficult to be as open / as soft in their love as Elain). The NC is a land of lethal beauty, they will play the role of Dark Lords and Death personified when they need to. Nesta fits in to all of that. Elain does not. She refused the leathers, returned TT without looking back, was quick to deflect what she did to the King in the war, seemed shocked by Nesta's brutality with the King. I think Rhys knows that Elain is not Illyrian at heart, she is not the NC at heart and that's why he would not have expected her to do whatever needed to be done while in the human lands. I think he sees that her nature was more nurturer than survivor / warrior. Is that fair? Maybe not? But at the same time, is it fair to expect all people to behave in exactly the same way? I always think back on the Hunger Games. When Katniss left, she didn't insist Prim head out into the woods to begin hunting in her stead. Instead, she focused on what Prim's strengths were, to use her goat to bring in cash flow and asked Gail to continue hunting for her family. Prim also became a doctor / healer like her mother and I rarely see anyone give backlash regarding her character. I don't think I've ever seen anyone hold it against Prim that she did not become a hunter / warrior type the way they hold it against Elain for not hunting. If Elain were not in the house I imagine it would have felt like a Civil War in that place, what with Nesta, Feyre and their father. But Elain managed to maintain a decent relationship with all three and I think the role of peace maker is often overlooked but something that is at the core of Elain's strength and why I think she'd make an amazing High Lady someday.

A3! Main Story: Part 4 - Act 15: PAINFUL RE:BAKE - Episode 24: The Things You Have To Do
Tumblr media
eng proofreading by myuntachis!
Sakyo: … Is that good?
Gaku: It’s perfect! Oh, man~! Thanks!
Gaku: Lots of the members of my club watch this anime, they’re gonna be SO jealous!
Sakyo: The boxing was also depicted pretty realistically.
Gaku: Ah! I’d also like a handshake!
Sakyo: I don’t mind but, you’re exaggerating now…
Gaku: Omi-nii, take a pic!
Omi: Yeah, I’ll do that.
Sakyo: You sure we can make a pro do that?
Omi: Ahaha, well, since we have the chance.
Kai: Omi-nii, is this much soy sauce okay?
Omi: Yeah, that's good.
Kai: By the way, that anime is popular in my club too.
Kai: Everyone was surprised when I told them an acquaintance of mine appeared as a voice actor.
Kai: So, I’d like one more autograph to display in the rugby club’s room… And dad said he wants one too, so make that two more autographs…
Omi: Hey now–
Sakyo: I don’t mind. It’s a small price to pay for the dinner you guys are making for me.
Omi: But still.
-
Kai: I’m sorry for serving you such simple dishes…
Sakyo: Nah, this is more than enough. You take after your brother in the cooking department, huh?
Omi: You can take a seat over there, Sakyo-san.
Sakyo: Thanks.
Omi: Again, thank you so much for making time to come to my family home.
Omi: Though, I told them I’d just bring the autographs myself…
Gaku: I mean, if I got a chance to hear that voice live, of course I’d ask for it~!
Gaku: He was just a guest actor, but everyone agrees his character was the best!
Sakyo: You started uni this year, didn’t you?
Gaku: Yes! I’ve been doing boxing since high school, so I joined my uni’s boxing club too!
Gaku: I was a senior till last year, but now I’m suddenly one of the youngest members, the transition’s been rough~
Kai: You’re the kinda kid seniors love doting on, so it’s fine. You didn’t even feel like a senior last year.
Gaku: That is SO not true! My juniors all cried and said they’d miss me when I graduated, I was a good and proper senior to ‘em!
Gaku: Oh!
Gaku: That reminds me, I gotta treat ‘em sometime, as thanks for helping Omi-nii with that thing he’s been looking into–
Sakyo: What’s he been looking into?
Omi: It’s no big deal. Kai, shouldn’t you be thinking about finding a job soon?
Kai: Right. Maybe I should ask if I can join Sakyo-san’s company…
Sakyo: We’re… not exactly the most ethical place.
Kai: But it’s amazing how both of you can juggle your day jobs and performing for the theater company~
Gaku: I’ve got my club activities and reports, and I’m going crazy. How do you manage?
Sakyo: … You gotta make sure to not spend a single moment of your life half-heartedly.
Sakyo: As you grow older, the things you hafta do even though you don’t want to keep increasing, but that doesn’t mean you should give up on the things you want to do.
Sakyo: And when you find something you want to do, you must go at it with full strength.
Sakyo: The only way to get to doing what you actually want to do is by giving it your all on the things you don’t want to do.
Gaku: Gotta do what you don’t wanna do, huh… That hit right where it hurts~
-
Omi: Thank you so much for today. And for what you said before–
Sakyo: Sure.
Omi: I respect how you don’t neglect your work at Ginsenkai, you balance everything and still manage to work as a voice actor along with everything else you want to do.
Sakyo: It’s exactly because there are things I want to do that I'm able to work so hard.
Sakyo: What’s something you want to put your everything into doing, Fushimi?
Omi: ——
Omi: I understand that, just like Banri said, I have to find something to help me break out of my shell as an actor…
Omi: But the truth is, there’s something else bothering me currently.
Omi: I was told I’m being a hypocrite, and I’m not sure if it’s something I can solve. But I just can’t seem to stop thinking about it.
Sakyo: Then, isn’t that what you want to do most, right now?
Sakyo: If there’s something you really want to do, you should do it.
Sakyo: Keep turning away from the things you want to do, and your 20s will pass in the blink of an eye.
Sakyo: And those things will keep haunting you. Take it from someone with experience.
Omi: … You’re right.
Sakyo: The reason no one in the Autumn Troupe, myself included, is saying anything about your challenge, is because we know you’re not the type of person to slack off on this sorta thing.
Sakyo: What all of us wish for you is to do something that you truly want to do, even if it’s something difficult.
Omi: Something I truly want to do…
Omi: … Sakyo-san, there’s something I’d like to talk to you and the rest of the Autumn Troupe about when we get back to the dorm.
Sakyo: … You sure take your time when you have to ask for help.

Ooh, we're talking about Rei? Alright, here we go!
The Todoroki family arc WAS one of the greater aspects of MHA. Keyword: was. It was great until Horikoshi decides to redeem Endeavor. The same man who practically bought his wife. The same man who neglected his three other children, Fuyumi was parentified, neglected Toya and Natso, Toya had constant breaks of his neglect, made a 5-year-old Shoto THROW UP from training so hard, physically and emotionally abused the shit out of his wife where she was on the verge of a mental breakdown everyday. Like, it's so disgusting, honestly. It's a slap in the fact to all of their trauma. Like Endeavor had YEARS to change, but randomly wants to change??? Like dude gave zero shits that Toya "DIED" via from his mental breakdown of his flames and carried on like nothing fucking happened. Also, I just wanna say people who also villainize Fuyumi can also get a big fuck you. Fuyumi just wanted a normal ass family and pushed all of her feelings in her traditional, sexist household. People react to trauma in different ways. Sure, Fuyumi doesn't always handle things the greatest, but the girl was made to look over her siblings at a young ass age. The problem with redeeming Endeavor is that, there's just somethings you can't say sorry for or fucking atone for. Buying your wife, neglecting all three of your kids, physically abusing your youngest son, physically and emotionally abusing your wife then locking her away from her children for 10 years is just not grounds to redeem someone. I thought MHA was good because Shoto saying fuck you to his dad and not forgiving was so refreshing but then paints Natsuo as the bad guy for not forgiving him, and having Shoto consider forgiving his father within one FUCKING YEAR after YEARS of abuse is just baffling to me. Ik Horikoshi is shit on writing women, but, I want to know what Rei is like outside of her dynamic of being a mom. I wanna know what her true personality is, because her abuse doesn't define her. I wanna also know more about Fuyumi because it's clear to me her parentification even carried over into adult, and even with her teaching elementary kids. Fuyumi also deserves to be pissed off at Endeavor. Shoto, Natsuo, and Dabi have shown them being PISSED at Endeavor, and they have EVERY right to. I just wanna see Fuyumi growing out of her parentification Endeavor clearly put her through.
fuck endeavor and his big toe looking ass People can change, yes. But not abusers who do the most godawful things to their family and don't atone for it. Fuck Endeavor.
Well said, anon👏🏾
I agree that the Todoroki past was a really good aspect of the MHA world before they redeemed Endeavor. It was a great aspect of world-building and it was refreshing seeing a character that wasn't begging for their abusive parent's love or acceptance. Then, 4/5 of his victims decided to rally around him and support him for the mess he created...
Why.
I'm actually really glad you brought up Fuyumi because I agree. She wasn't only neglected, she was parentified. And this wasn't something that happened when Touya died or Rei was committed, via the Touya flashback her parentification started at least around the time Natsu was born. She wants a normal family because it's the only way she knows how to cope with that childhood trauma (yes, parentification is traumatic). Yes, she doesn't go about it in a great way but we need to stop expecting victims to react perfectly. Nastu and Shoto made the choice to play nice to make her happy, she didn't force or demand them to.
Fuyumi, overall, deserves more agency. It would have been great for both her and Rei to be something outside of their trauma and supporting their abuser. They also deserve to be angry.
(I've noticed that Hori doesn't really make women in his story angry. I mean, Mirko sometimes but that's more her gag than anything. They all either cry or when they're being "strong" he just gives them this face 😐 (I'm not exaggerating: Rei, Momo, Inko, Uraraka, etc.) I mean, I don't expect a shonen mamgaka to know how to write feminine rage well, but MHA is just pathetic when it comes to this)
Hori got me fucked up for the way he treats Natsu. He's the only one able to see last the trauma/abuse (probably because he was the most removed from it) to be able to make healthy choices and create boundaries. Yet Hori over here wants to paint him in a negative light for calling out Endeavor repeatedly. It's the same thing with people who criticize Bakugou; they're made out to be in the wrong (Monoma, the pros, the journalists, etc.) even though what they're saying is completely valid.
I would also like to point out that Endeavor only changed once he got what he wanted. Not when his son died because of him. If he was going to really change, don't you think it should have been when his actions resulted in dire consequences?

Elrond and Turgon for the tolkien bingo thing?
Elrond and his great-grandpa 🥺
Turgon:
Tumblr media
I feel like I'm stepping into my defense attorney shoes again. Turgon is a great character and I'm really flummoxed by how much he's hated by the fandom. Yes he--as with basically ALL characters in Silm--made mistakes (ignoring Ulmo) but it also seems like he really tried to do the right thing and he cared about doing the right thing. He built Gondolin to be a safe haven for the Elves (and also in memory of Tirion, for which he was pretty explicitly homesick). He is the only one who tried to send ships back to Aman to get help for Middle-earth. He agonized over whether to stay in Gondolin or evacuate as Melkor starts turning up the heat. Gondolin is explicitly noted to take in former prisoners of Angband, of whom the rest of the world is deeply suspicious (not without cause).
And he loses so much. He and his family are made kinslayers in Alqualonde for the sake of the Feanorians, who then abandon them. He loses his wife on the Helcaraxe and Aredhel first to an abusive marriage and then to murder right in his own court. His youngest brother gets killed in the first battle they have in Middle-earth. His dad's body is dumped on his doorstep after he gets smashed by Melkor. His older brother is stomped to a bloody pulp by balrogs. He's betrayed by his nephew, whom he took in and raised, and his entire city which had been a refuge for centuries is razed to the ground. This guy cannot catch a break!
A lot of the Turgon hate seems to come from the idea that he was unfair to or mistreated Maeglin which I just do not buy. Everything in every version of this story suggests to me he fostered Maeglin and tried to have a positive relationship with him. Whether Maeglin never liked or trusted Turgon, or whether he eventually grew to desire power and Idril over any positive feelings he may have had for Turgon is up for debate, but there is no evidence Turgon ever neglected him.
Of his siblings, I think he was particularly close with Aredhel, despite their disagreements. The fact that she went with him to Gondolin, presumably understanding it was intended to be a one-way trip, suggests to me they must've liked each other a lot, or she never would have gone at all.
I am also delighted by his friendship with Finrod, because it's easy to see them as very different people, and yet their friendship persisted. I think they really consider each other like brothers and it must have killed Turgon to find out about Finrod's death, especially since they hadn't seen each other in centuries at that point. It's also very possible he didn't learn about Finrod's death until well after it had happened. Maybe that shouldn't make a difference, but I think it would. Finding out your beloved friend who you thought was alive and well has actually been dead for years, and died brutally and alone in the dungeons of Sauron? Ouch.
I think he should get credit for being like, the only Elf parent who seems completely unconcerned with his daughter marrying a mortal. As far as we can tell from the text, he takes zero issue with Idril and Tuor's relationship and has no problem welcoming Tuor into the house.
Also, Turgon going down with Gondolin and the whole "Great is the fall of Gondolin" -> "Great is the victory of the Noldoli" thing are such badass impeccable vibes. Turgon to me is someone who tries a lot and he doesn't always get it right, but that's part of what makes him interesting. Yeah it turned out to be a mistake to follow Fingon into Alqualonde...but he was trying to defend his family. Yeah he should've listened when Ulmo said it was time to ditch Gondolin...but he was proud of what they had built and it seemed safer than the rest of Middle-earth. To me, his mistakes were reasonable in the circumstances and they make him more than the stodgy, cranky counterpart to Fingon he's often seen as in fanon.
Elrond:
Tumblr media
Is there anyone who doesn't like Elrond? I don't think I've ever seen one. Elrond is a character I liked long before reading The Silmarillion, but reading that really makes your heart break all the more for him. Here, again, is a character who has lost so much and yet in spite of that manages to stay kind and gentle--and not without effort on his part, I'm sure!
Given the events of his youth, it would have been so easy for Elrond to be bitter and angry, but he isn't (at least not by the Third Age). He doesn't do terrible things or act like a jerk and blame in on having had a hard childhood. If anything, his difficult experience seems to inspire him to ensure others don't have that kind of experience.
I don't have my copy of LotR with me so I can't look for quotes right now, but I love the callbacks there to his mom and dad and how he followed the tradition of his maternal family in naming his own sons. It must have felt so unfair to have them taken from him, and he never really got to know them, but that connection is still there and it clearly means a lot to him. I am so invested in Elrond getting to see Earendil and Elwing again in Valinor.
The naming tradition is particularly interesting since Elrond's maternal culture is effectively erased by the Third Kinslaying. There's nothing really left of Doriath or the Iathrim and there's no mention of them after that outside the note that Oropher led the straggling remains of them to the Greenwood where they took up the traditions of the Silvan there. Because Elrond was taken away from them, he really loses any chance to connect with his maternal culture until adulthood, where he might seek out what remains of the Iathrim, if he wanted. Yet he chooses to stick to the naming tradition of the royal family, one of the few pieces of their legacy that he knows of. I suppose I see him as someone who is continually seeking out those bits of information, trying to learn more about Doriath, about Gondolin, about the people and places his parents came from, about his heritage. He had no one to teach it to him, so he has to figure it out himself.
I wish we got to know more about his relationship with Celebrian! He basically falls for her at first sight but we don't get a lot of elaboration and it would be interesting to know more about their dynamic since she's out of the picture by LotR.
His goodbye with Arwen literally rips my heart out every time. Agony. At least she'll get to meet Uncle Elros.
Also, it's so fun telling LotR fans who haven't read Silm "btw Galadriel is Elrond's mother-in-law."

CHARACTER INFO SHEET.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
NAME: Suzuki Shou. 鈴木将。
NAME MEANING: 鈴 ; bell. 木 ; tree/wood. 将 ; leader/highest commander.
ALIAS: Leader; given to him by his lackeys, pronounced in english, in katakana.
ETHNICITY: mixed white/asian (japanese.).
THREE HEADCANONS YOU’VE NEVER TOLD ANYONE:
☆ > Shou took out an entire Claw division not long before the 7th division was destroyed, the details are interesting.
☆ > Shou, for the most part, has a good head on his shoulders, he can figure out difficult situations, he can't be tricked with ease, he can keep his cool and his mind gearing through stress. But he is also quite the forgetful person, and has troubles concentrating and a tendency of zoning out when his guard is down. It's a mix between his nature and the effects of insomnia. Cue to education problems.
☆ > This one is a little less personal, but Shou starts school after the first winter break after Claw is disbanded, a couple months before the events of confession arc. It sits things nicely in my brain I hope you can see my vision.
THREE THINGS YOUR CHARACTER LIKES DOING IN THEIR FREE TIME:
Taking care of his hamsters, sketching whenever he has the chance, and after Claw gets disbanded he gets a severe case of wanderlust. He didn't have a lot of free time, back then. Despite traveling a lot, it was all for organization purposes, so it's no wonder he wants to explore a lot of places on his own, without anyone bossing him around.
SIX PEOPLE YOUR CHARACTER LIKES/LOVES:
♡ > Toichiro: that's his father, yes he might have been a neglectful, abusive and downright terrible father, but between the monster and the self-proclaimed world dominator and terrorist boss- he was family and good, at some point, and even now he's working to change and become better. And Shou loved him, still loves him, despite everything. ( yes, love can exist in an abusive relationship, no, it doesn't make the abuse any less terrible. )
♡ > Natsumi: Shou's mother! Although their relationship got strained by years of estrangement and lies, Shou recognizes how much his mother is trying to mend and do her best for his sake, and she really is trying her best, dealing with the aftermath of Claw and all the legal issues and stress while beginning to truly know who her son is and love him fully, powers and complicated past and difficult traits all together.
♡ > Fukuda: Shou's "babysitter" ever since he was 10 going 11, he took care of Shou throughout some of the most difficult times of his days in Claw, healing his injuries and keeping him company and looking after his health when Shou's father was away traveling and his mother was nowhere to be found. Even trying to teach him whatever education he missed ( despite eventually giving up ). Shou & Fukuda share a very strong bond, but there are times when their personalities clash and their differences get between establishing something unbreakable.
♡ > Higashio: The last addition to Shou's resistance team. Despite not having been around since long, his collected attitude and absent-minded wisdom made him so much of a teacher to Shou, with the lessons being on life in general and a whole lot of street smarts and high culture. Higashio may not have been the strongest psychic out there, but he has Shou impressed more often than not with the simplest of things.
♡ > Ritsu: RITSU !!! Shou's first friend, Shou's best friend, his ride or die, his person his special guy!!!!!!! What they have is beyond your comprehension.
♡ > Ootsuki: First assigned as a bodyguard slash "attack dog" for Shou by his father, the two didn't get along so well at the beginning, with how Ootsuki's time at Claw was especially difficult and all the resentment he held to the Suzuki name. Eventually, Ootsuki began to see Shou for his own admirable person and not just a spawn of the Claw boss. And being the youngest in Shou's resistance team, they understood each other best, made a pretty strong and well coordinated duo in fights, too.
TWO THINGS YOUR CHARACTER REGRETS:
> Not having acted sooner before his father's plan started.
> Acting against his father ... to begin with. Shou would never admit that to anyone ( sometimes not even himself ), but there are times when he sees himself and others he cared for struggling to live after Claw is done, and it all comes down to him and his resistance.
TWO PHOBIAS YOUR CHARACTER HAS:
Agoraphobia ( trapped; helpless; panicked; embarrassed; scared. ) , Pyrophobia ( fire/burns ).

Howdy! So, uh, I found this post again and have decided to remake it as I’m older and have made changes to my opinions so-
1. Oldest Oc: Bouncetrap as I made her before Tesha. Like Tesha though, she’s an old FNAF Oc! She’s also a rabbit but I want to make her either a bat or at least change her name to cut any ties she had with Bouncetrap.
2. Your newest Oc: Depends. I’ve made changes to old characters to the point where they could be considered new Ocs. For now, let’s say the old Armadillo Oc that I changed from a super crappy slasher with two personalities into a knight who cannot move onto the after life named Armadura (Spanish for Armor)
3. Favorite Oc: Ever since returning to these characters, it’s a tie between the new and wacky Greenest and the total party animal Glitch. They both have aspects that I absolutely adore.
4. Any Villain Ocs?: Many! Soul, No Eyes, Glitch, The Blaze, The Tear, Greenest, Silo, Fal Twen (Debating a name change), Kiraly, Tornado (The Sea/Sky Animus Hybrid), Orbweaver (Rain/Silk Hybrid), Iris Lovecake and Joykill
5. Main Reason for Making Ocs: …Idk, I just..make them and decide to revive old ocs.
6. Describe your creation process: It typically starts with me stressing out and listening to music to calm down, slowly, I start to think of animations and I quickly make an Oc.
7. Favorite Ship?: I’m starting this with mentioning that No Eyes and Recaidie are no longer a canonical ship, I realized just a few months ago that it’s a problematic ship (Recaidie is confirmed to be 7 and No Eyes has..no confirmed age) and quickly made it noncanon. Nowadays, my favorite ship is a mix between Greenest x Minty (Mintiest) and Iris Lovecake x Joykill (Iriskill or Joycake).
8. Do you ship your Ocs?: Absolutely. Reread 7 to learn which is my favorite.
9. Weirdest Oc?: Uh…I particularly dislike all of the old ideas for my remade ocs.
10. Favorite character design?: I adore Glitch’s new design with the spots and spikes.
11. Would you consider yourself nice to your Ocs?: Eh, I’d say so.
12. An Oc you’ve killed: Armadura, she’s a ghost. Rebarx is no longer canonically dead.
13. Are any of your Ocs parents?: I actually made Recaidie into Minty’s and Greenest’s daughter so yes.
14. Any neglected Ocs?: ..Neglected how? Anyways, I don’t think so. Maybe Astrid?
15. An oc that’s hard to write?: …Greenest is really hard to write tbh. It’s hard to get his speech correct as he’s rambly and he constantly jumps to talking about other things.
16. Your largest and smallest oc?: The Tear has been made to be the same size as the Gargantuan Leviathan and TamaMimik is still my smallest oc.
17. Your oldest and youngest oc?: The Tear is my oldest (a few millenia old) and TamaMimik is still my youngest.
18. Do you dislike any of your ocs?: …I dislike August tbh. I think I could’ve characterized them better.
19. Have you ever made a self insert?: *Looks at Leaf* (Context, Leaf’s nickname is a real life nickname I have)
20. An Oc Regret?: August

I have read almost all of your fics and I adore how you write Nesta. I really appreciate how you have handled her character in you Neris, Nezriel, and now Jurian x Nesta (Jursta? Can’t be Nesian) fics and I’m so glad you have kept her as a center in your fics ❤️ and so since you’re someone that I feel understands Nesta’s character, what are your thoughts on Feyre? I’m curious because the word abuse is often thrown around alot when it comes to Feyre and Nesta. I personally don’t give the time of day to Elain, Mor, and Rhys stans that are anti Nesta because no real case can be made but with Feyre? It is tricky. Anyways I’m humbly asking for your thoughts on Nesta and Feyre sister dynamic. Thanks so much for your content 😊
Thank you so much for the nice words. Nesta is my number one 🧡 I hope you are ready for a 10,000 word essay *cracks knuckles*
I find this so complicated.
At the beginning of Acotar, Nesta is almost comically wicked. It’s like a pantomime. Randomly sniping at Feyre at how bad she smells. But then I think, well she has been hunting in the woods so probably does? The cold outdoors has a really specific smell when somebody comes in. We know Nesta doesn’t mince her words. But it is such a randomly rude thing to say. (As somebody who is the youngest of 4, i wish saying we smelt was the worst insult slung).
I don’t doubt that they had many issues growing up. They were all in a terrible situation. I doubt any of them are innocent and didn’t argue back. It’s difficult to analyse their relationship because it’s so tangled with their other family members.
Feyre hunted due to the promise to their mother and because she had the bravery to learn. But she also had minimal time with their mother, she says she is the strangest child because she was born on the longest night of the year, and we know Feyre was left to her own devices a lot hence not being able to read and having to teach herself to swim. She was the only sister capable of learning to hunt. Feyre was neglected a lot as a child which was not Nesta’s fault, but if she saw that her eldest sister was her mother’s favourite and her middle was her father’s then yes she likely feels quite jaded.
Nesta spent the most time with wealth and their mother. She was primed to be a good little wife for the longest time. Even if she wasn’t stubborn enough to starve, there is no way Nesta would have been able to find that spirit to head off into the woods and learn to hunt. It’s so “unfeminine”. She even hates wearing pants in acosf. I just don’t see any way Nesta would have taught herself to hunt. She isn’t as daring as Feyre.
Father
The biggest neglect came from their father. He is abusive.
Nesta gets the heat for not hunting but not once is any blame put on him by the ic etc. And not just for that. Okay, he cannot walk. Physically was unable to hunt. But he was too proud to work in other ways. He was called the prince of merchants. We assume he was well educated - or at least could read. So why didn’t he teach his daughters when he could give them nothing else? Why did he not teach Feyre to read - why does Nesta get the blame for it? Why didn’t he find work that didn’t require physical exertion? He apparently had absolutely no contacts as a merchant, whose job was trading goods, who was willing to offer him help or work. Nobody was willing to help a widow with three young daughters? He had no friends or acquaintances? Feyre gets so close at one point to acknowledging his failures; I think it’s when she said that Nesta was realistic and didn’t fill their heads with talk of regaining wealth like the father.
He puts a massive strain on their relationship because Nesta is trying to spur him into action whereas Feyre is ensuring they don’t starve so he has no reason to act. Nesta is angry that Feyre is not helping her plan. Feyre is angry Nesta is not helping her.
Nesta gets blamed for things that their father could have done - teaching/providing. Feyre is the one who has told her story to the IC and obviously has not put any blame on her father when she’s told the story, further twisting her and Nesta’s relationship.
Elain
I don’t know why Elain seems like the baby by a good number of years but she does. For some reason, Nesta chose to be her protector. If you’ve ever hung out in a group of 3, it ends up being 2+1 and that’s the family dynamic we have. Poor Feyre is always the one left out. Nesta always chooses Elain. She will always choose Elain. Until acosf when Elain turns her back on her and chooses Feyre because it’s safer. For Nesta, it’s unfair and a massive betrayal because she spent so much time caring for Elain - and when she needed someone to lean on, Elain moved to Feyre. Not Feyre’s fault but I can see how Nesta would read it that way. And for Feyre she probably feels glad that she is being picked for once.
Elain was also in the cabin, also knew how to read and is only a year younger than Nesta. The fact she is never held accountable to the same level as Nesta for not hunting/teaching must really piss Nesta off. And it drives yet another wedge between Nesta and Feyre.
The IC/Rhys
Thanks to Feyre already telling her new family about her sisters, the ic meet them with prejudice. Elain is given a bit of a pass but Nesta is already the villain. Not the father. We never hear any of them criticise the father - even though they all have terrible fathers themselves and should be able to empathise with Feyre and her sisters.
When Cassian and Rhys meet Nesta, she is public enemy number one despite forcing themselves into her home (Feyre makes her host them, even says to them she’ll make Nesta contact the queens) despite it putting Nesta and Elain’s position in jeopardy. At this point, Nesta is trying to protect Elain’s relationship with Graysen. Upon meeting her for the first time, Rhys says he can never forgive Nesta. No issue with Elain or the father. Later when Feyre asks him to let it go, he still refuses to but “Elain is Elain”. It’s unfair.
Because Feyre and Nesta have such a strained relationship, it affects everybody else’s view of Nesta. They knew Feyre first and believe her. They side with her. Rhys flies so fast she vomits and he finds it funny. Nesta expresses concern over Cassian and Mor tells her to keep her forked tongue behind her teeth. Nesta is never allowed to be soft or vulnerable with them because they always have their hackles up around her - then she loses her home and humanity and gets sucked into their life where Feyre is at the centre of their universe and can do no wrong. Nesta feels even more pushed out and unwanted. It’s not Feyre’s fault but when Feyre tries to change things, Rhys won’t forgive Nesta.
To me, it was not abuse. Nesta was an angry, hurt girl who had lost her mother, her home, and her future. Her anger came out through lashing out. It wasn’t just at Feyre. She thought she was too good for the village. She looked down on them all. She was cruel to the father. She even snaps at Elain. There isn’t a power imbalance between her and Feyre when they’re mortal. Nesta wasn’t doing it to gain anything. She didn’t feel better as a result. She was just lashing out constantly. Was it nice? No. Does she massively regret it? Yes. Part of growing up is looking back and thinking “I really wasn’t the best I could have been back then”.
But their relationship isn’t all completely miserable or Feyre doing everything. Nesta shows her love through actions and in acotar she displays it in many ways:
Nesta chops wood at the start. Once Feyre asks her to and the second time she does it of her own accord.
When Elain is begging Feyre for money, Nesta reprimands her for it.
When Feyre returns from Prythian, Elain and their father host a ball and all these suitors come after Feyre for her money. At no point are they ever chastised for not really missing Feyre and seeing her as a cash cow. What happened during the ball? Nesta stayed by Feyre’s side all night protecting her from unwanted suitors.
Elain complains that Nesta has freaked out all of her friends by being miserable and withdrawn - because she knew that Feyre had been taken by Tamlin and it affected her deeply.
Nesta saw through the glamour and hired the mercenary to try and get to the wall to bring Feyre home despite being scared of the mercenary (because her and Elain were once robbed by one) and faeries.
She asks Feyre to teach her how to paint and while she does that, she wants to Feyre’s story.
Nesta encourages her to write when she returns from finding Tamlin. She sees Feyre off. Their father is counting money in his study and doesn’t even come to say goodbye but nothing is even mentioned about that.
These things are forgotten about by some feysand stans. It upsets me a lot that Feyre and Nesta’s relationship ends on a high note in acotar then the next time they meet, Feyre is surprised that Nesta won’t let her in with 3 faeries. Nesta knew she’d let her sister go back to Prythian during a time of danger then heard nothing for months. She was likely worried sick. But Feyre doesn’t care about that because she has a new family and needs to win their love. Despite the horrific months she spent UTM, she doesn’t share that with the IC - but instead tells them about Nesta.
There is now a massive power imbalance between the two sisters. Feyre is high lady, she’s wealthy and Nesta is essentially at her mercy. She has nowhere else to go. They don’t have a sisterly bond because Feyre is her provider, her employer, her land lord, her queen. Along with Rhys who doesn’t like nesta. Nesta essentially lost her home because Feyre told ianthe all about her. The ic entered their lives and rhys promised to have guards there round the clock but they still were turned fae. And then Feyre went back to spring and Nesta was left alone in an unfamiliar court with strangers trying to take care of Elain. It’s a massive change and she likely feels very angry with Feyre and hurt.
And yet again, Nesta and Feyre never have any time alone to be sisters. Feyre will always choose Rhys over spending time with anybody else. One of the best scenes for me is when the three sisters huddle together for sleep when elain is rescued. You can see how much they love each other in that scene when Nesta beats Rhys to hug Feyre and is sobbing then they all sleep cuddled up. It’s so tender and they need time to actually get to know each other when they’re not angry or starving.
I think at their core they’re quite similar. Neither has ever been loved enough. Feyre is desperate to be loved and latches onto anybody who gives her attention. Nesta doesn’t trust that anybody does genuinely love her so pushes it away rather than lets it in.
Tldr; they have a strained relationship that isn’t helped by others interfering and affecting it. Feyre and Nesta need to spend time together alone and get to know each other with other people butting out.

Encanto AU idea
Notes: Yes, I am still thinking about Encanto. It is a big comfort movie for me, and the characters (especially Bruno) are good for projecting onto, and I don’t think I will ever stop thinking about any of them.
You should know that this is nothing like what I usually write for this fandom, even though this is the only thing I feel is ready to post. I believe that all of the characters are flawed, and that even though Alma loves her family, her trauma influences her actions and that leads to her making many mistakes. I don’t believe for even a second that any of the adults in the movie are abusive or bad parents/tíos, and none of what I’ve written here is actually part of my headcanon for them. This idea was just too much to stay in my head, so I’m dropping it here. It’s also on AO3.
READ THE WARNINGS. This isn’t a happy one, folks.
Content warnings and tags: angst; so much angst; implied/referenced child neglect; implied referenced child abuse; good dad Agustín Madrigal; good tío Bruno Madrigal; bad tío Félix Madrigal; bad tía Pepa Madrigal; bad mom Julieta Madrigal; bad abuela Alma Madrigal; traumatized Alma Madrigal; traumatized Julieta Madrigal; traumatized Bruno Madrigal; black and white thinking; insecure Julieta Madrigal; insecure Bruno Madrigal; Bruno Madrigal leaves after Mirabel’s gift ceremony, Alma Madrigal Bashing, angry Bruno Madrigal, angry Agustín Madrigal
Mirabel’s ceremony stays the same. She touches the doorknob, the magic door disappears, the candle flickers, making Alma panic and ask Bruno for a vision. He sees Casita crumbling, his family in danger, and Mirabel at the center of it all, and the only thing he can think of to keep her safe is to go hide in the walls to watch his family from afar.
This is where things go wrong. Maybe he makes too much noise, or doesn't close the painting all the way, or gets caught getting food at night. Maybe he does everything right, but Dolores tells the family about how she’s been hearing something in the walls, something bigger than a rat.
Whatever happens, Bruno is found not long after the failed ceremony, and subsequently the family learns what he saw in the vision. It goes even worse than he had expected it to, starting with this: Alma takes the fact that Bruno tried to hide this from her as proof that Mirabel is already tearing the family apart.
Bruno tries to tell her that she’s wrong, but Alma is scared, traumatized, and she has been spending forty years protecting her home and her family. She isn’t about to risk losing it all again. Instead, she doubles down, saying that Mirabel is dangerous, that she can no longer be trusted.
Agustín thinks that the whole idea is ridiculous. He can’t believe that they were even having this discussion. His youngest daughter has been absolutely distraught about everything that’s happened, and Agustín can’t make himself believe that she would ever hurt her family. He fully expects Julieta to back him on this; after all, she’s been right there with him comforting Mirabel in the aftermath of her ceremony. He’s more than shocked when she quietly tells him that her mother might be right.
Julieta has always carried a huge weight, and it was placed on her shoulders when she was the same age Mirabel is right now. No doctors had followed Alma and Pedro into the jungle. Before the triplets got their Gifts, the town just made do. For thirty-five years Julieta has been the only thing standing between the entire Encanto and medical disaster. She has spent all of her life around the sick and dying, has seen all sorts of horrific injuries. If something happened to the miracle, if she isn’t able to heal everyone anymore, how long will it take for them all to just die off? Part of her knows her reasoning is illogical at best, but fear and shame are powerful motivators, and her mother has been wielding them against Julieta her whole life.
Stunned, Agustín turns to Félix, believing that surely the other Madrigal in-law would see that this was wrong—but Félix shakes his head.
“The Encanto needs the magic,” he tells his cuñado, “It’s the foundation of the whole area. Who knows if the land will even hold up without it?”
He sounds so sad as he says it, like he’s already mourning the loss of the youngest Madrigal. As though there is no avoiding what is about to happen.
Pepa is practically tearing her hair out as she runs her hands down her braid, trying to keep the hail and freezing rain that is buffeting her shoulders from affecting the rest of the room. She doesn’t want to lose any of her family, but she has known Bruno for longer than Mirabel has been alive. He and Julieta are her triplets, three parts of a whole, and if she has to choose between them and her niece, her siblings will always come out on top. Still, she thinks of her little Camilo, not even a year older than Mirabel.
“Maybe there’s a way to change the prophecy, change the future,” she says, “Maybe there’s something less extreme that we can do to stop Mirabel from destroying everything.”
She can’t meet anyone’s eyes, and voice is weak and shaky. It’s clear that she doesn’t believe what she’s saying. Not even Félix can bring himself to support her argument, though he wraps a comforting arm around her waist.
“No,” Alma says, voice sharp and cold as a blade. “All of Bruno’s visions come true. All of them. We must deal with this problem now, before it can take root.”
It’s two against four. Desperate, Agustín turns again to Bruno, pleading with him to find a solution. “Hermano, I know your visions aren’t always clear. There must be some loophole, maybe some detail that you missed?”
Here’s the thing: although the stakes have never been this personal, this argument isn’t new to Bruno. In the past his mamá has used his visions to dole out punishments well before any crime was committed, and Bruno knows word for word how the fight will go, so he tries a different approach. If he can’t change their minds, maybe he can at least make sure his sobrina isn’t punished too harshly for what he had seen. Maybe he can still keep her safe, or at least, safer.
“What are you even planning to do?” he asks his mother, “You can’t just kick a little girl out on the streets, especially not your own granddaughter. Even aside from how cruel that would be, there’s no way she would be able to survive on her own, and none of the villagers would be willing to help her, not if it meant going against you.”
This is what finally makes Julieta speak up.
“Surely Mamá isn’t thinking about kicking Mirabel out entirely,” she says. “Maybe we can just keep her isolated until the danger is past. Casita can make a new room for her. The Mirabel in the vision was a teenager, no more than sixteen at the most. I would rather spend a decade or so with my daughter locked away under the same roof than a lifetime without knowing where she is.”
Alma rests a gentle hand on Julieta’s shoulder. “I understand your concerns,” she tells her. “The love of a mother is a powerful thing. But you cannot allow your own selfishness to bring harm upon the miracle. As Félix said, there are many more lives at risk here than just our family. The needs of the many must outweigh the needs of the one. This is no different than separating a contagious person from others to keep the disease from spreading.”
Julieta doesn’t have a counter argument for that, and the tiny spark of rebellion in her eyes goes out before it can catch flame. She closes in on herself and cries quietly, muffling the sobs in one hand and using the other to grip Agustín too tightly for him to pull away. She doesn’t notice that he isn’t holding her hand in return.
“This isn’t a disease they’re talking about,” Bruno says, desperate to make his family see sense. “She’s a little girl, barely five years old, who is just as scared as we are. It was her door that faded away, after all, and she isn’t even old enough to comprehend the potential ramifications, let alone bring down the whole Encanto.” His voice is shaking with barely contained rage and old hurt as he continues. “Mirabel isn’t some kind of curse. She isn’t bad luck and shouldn’t be shunned because of a bad vision. She’s just a child, just a kid. She’s done nothing to deserve any of this. It’s not like she can create the future.”
The argument goes on as emotions become more and more fraught, each person trying to speak over the others. Each person except Alma, that is. She hasn’t taken her eyes off of her son, and after a few moments she raises her hand. The gesture is enough to make everyone fall silent once more.
“Bruno is right,” she says, and Agustin lets out a sob of relief. “The jungle is too dangerous for a young child, and although the future is unavoidable, Mirabel isn’t the one who set it in stone. That is why Bruno will go with her.”
The response is immediate and loud. Pepa and Julieta argue that there has to be another way, that they can’t lose their little brother again. The short time he spent in the walls was painful enough.
Agustín is yelling, swearing, asking how Alma can banish two members of her own family, her own son and granddaughter, based on something that won’t even happen for another ten years.
Félix is quiet, but he has turned to glare at Bruno, as though this was just a repeat of his and Pepa’s wedding, as though the prophet wasn’t one of the only people trying to stop this in the first place.
Bruno has gone pale, his breath knocked out of him by his mother’s words and the clear message between the lines. His mother believed that he was to blame for his niece’s future, for the potential downfall of the family and the miracle, and so he would be punished along with Mirabel. Somewhere under the shock and hurt, Bruno feels a little bit of relief. At least he knew what she thought of him, now. At least she wasn’t pretending to care for him anymore. No more masks, no more condemnation thinly disguised as encouragement. He hears himself speak as though through a long tunnel.
“Fine,” he says, the single word cutting through the noise. “If all of you are willing to let your fear rule your actions, then Mirabel is no longer safe in Casita. I always swore I’d never let any of the kids turn out like me, and if I have to protect Mirabel from our own family, then I will. Clearly neither of us are welcome in Encanto anymore, but I’ll be damned if I let Mirabel go out there on her own.”
Agustín tears himself away from Julieta and clings to Bruno, pleading with him not to take his daughter away, to wait a day, to give everyone a chance to come to their senses, or to at least let Agustín leave with them. Bruno’s ceyes are sad as he brushes off his cuñado’s hands.
“You have to stay here,” he says.
He doesn’t tell Agustín that the others could turn on any of the other kids just as quickly as they have turned on him and Mirabel. He doesn’t say that they can’t take them all, that they’ll never make it past the mountains with so many children and so few adults. He doesn’t say that the rest of the kids need at least one person in their corner, should something like this ever happen again. He doesn’t need to say any of it. Under the shock and panic and heartache, Agustín already knows that he has to let this happen, to let the man he thinks of as a brother leave with his youngest daughter. He knows, and it hurts him all the more.
There are a few more weak protests from Julieta and Pepa, but the decision has been made. Bruno and Agustín go to Dolores’s room, where all of the children had been sent so they wouldn’t hear the arguing. Agustín begins to cry when he takes in the way they’re all curled up together, with Mirabel right in the middle of the pile. The sound wakes Dolores from her light sleep, and her movement wakes the other kids, like a little line of sleepy dominoes.
Bruno isn’t doing much better than his cuñado, but he gives a watery smile as he informs the kids that he and Mirabel need to leave the Encanto. No, he isn’t sure how long. No, no one else is going with them. No, this isn’t because of anything that any of the kids had done. No, he isn’t sure when they’re coming back.
“Sometimes grown-ups make bad choices,” he tells them, barely disguising the bitterness in his voice. “It’s better for me and Mirabel if we go, to put some space between us and the Encanto.”
Dolores speaks up for the first time that night, even before she had been sent to bed with the others. “Will you be careful, Tío?” she asks, “Will you protect her?”
Bruno swallows against the lump in his throat, wonders if her room is as soundproof for her as it is for everyone else. “Lola, I swear that I’m going to do everything I can to keep her safe. To keep us both safe.”
By now all of the kids are crying, confused and scared. They’ve never seen Agustín so upset, have never seen him cry like this, no matter how badly he’s gotten hurt. Isabela, Luisa, and Mirabel are clinging to each other, and even though Camilo is held tight in Dolores’s lap, he has one little fist clenched in Mirabel’s dress. Agustín kneels down to detangle his daughter and pull her away, giving her one last tight hug and a kiss. For a long moment he just keeps her close, breathing her in, petting her hair, feeling her weight in his arms, trying to cement everything about his little girl in his memory. She is trying so hard to be brave, but he can see the way tears are rolling down her cheeks and how her bottom lip is trembling. Through it all, she pats his cheek.
“Don’t be scared,” she tells him, “Tio Bruno is really nice, and we’ll be back home before you know it, okay?”
It’s the same thing that he and Julieta tell their daughters whenever they don’t want to go to school, to reassure them that their teachers are kind and that at the end of the day the girls would come back home. Agustín clutches Mirabel to his chest and sobs into her hair, his whole frame shaking. He feels a hand on his shoulder and desperately turns away, but Bruno moves with him and gently lifts Mirabel from his arms. The prophet is crying now, too, but for Mirabel’s sake he still clings to a brittle smile.
“I’ll take good care of her, Gus,” he says, “And hey, Mira and I will try to write as soon as we get settled, okay? Let you know all the news from our new place.”
Agustín nods and does his best to paste on a smile, but both men know that even if they found a way to get a letter back to Encanto, Alma would never allow it to reach the rest of the family.
They make sure each of the other kids says goodbye to Mirabel before leaving the room to find Julieta and Alma in the courtyard with two old suitcases. Agustín ignores them, instead going straight into the kitchen for the strongest bottle of alcohol he can find. It doesn’t escape his notice that although Julieta looks worried and upset, neither of the women are crying.
Bruno won’t let go of Mirabel, so Julieta has to awkwardly hug them both goodbye at once, her brother tense and angry in her arms. He refuses to let Alma come anywhere near them, even to say goodbye, and rejects Julieta’s help as he uses an old blanket to tie a still-sleepy Mirabel to his back so he can pick up the suitcases. Leaving his mother and sister with one last withering glare, Bruno walks out the door, forcing himself not to look back as he and Mirabel leave the warmth of Casita and go out into the night.
He hopes that by leaving the valley, he can break the prophecy and change the future. He hopes that Mirabel never has to step into this town again, but if the vision holds, he hopes the death of the miracle tears this place to the ground. If she does come back at some point, he will make sure he’s right beside her, keeping her safe.

Some info dumping and traditional concept arts of my OCs!!
Doodle of my fursona to welcome you down this trail of blabbering if you so choose to continue onwards:D
Tumblr media
These first few sketches are concept pieces for practicing different shapes. I plan to make my OC story a comic, so of course posing and shape consistency is very key:]
They're not rlly specific characters, just good ol' practice.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Some form of disclaimer ig: the bits of worldbuilding of my story that I am introducing in this post may be similar to Warrior Cats in a way, I definitely take inspiration from WC with this all, but these are not WC OCs in any way.
The 4 "divided" groups call themselves Septs, each group is made of a different breed of an original species I made called "grimalkin" (feline esc animals but each breed has special physical characteristics)
The 4 subspecies of grimalkin who divide themselves are ryfons, koas, lampyridae, and kimaira ("kimair" is the non-plural). They all have different physical characteristics, such as ryfons possess feathery fur and tend to grow larger than the others ; koas have more of a squirrelly and round look to them ; kimaira possess venomous fangs (works similar to a snakes fangs, can sheathe and unsheathe) ; lampyridae are very fox-like in looks rather than feline-esc like the others are. Their Sept is also the only Sept with a monarchy ruling system. (More on the lampyridae Sept, the inner workings of their Sept is very key to the plotline of my story;)
Fun little note as well ~ lampyridae and kimaira have black eyes--or, fully one-colored eyes with no pupils/scleras; like how rodent eyes are:]
×
~ breakoff from topic baby name lore cus yes ~
- ryfon babies are called "kits"
- koa babies are called "fawns"
- kimair babies are called "cubs"
- lampyridae babies are called "nymphs"
×
That's the most notes I will share of the worldbuilding. Now onto some character introductions:D
This rapscallion below is a ryfon by the name of Taika (he/him). He's the main antagonist of my story.
Tumblr media
This lil guy is a koa by the name of Chiryo (he/him). He's close to the main character of my story and a major main side character throughout the story (will probably have an individual post for my MAIN guy. He's a doozie.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This ball of chronic anxiety and heavy insecurity problems is Fawn (he/they ; prefers pronoun shifting)! They're a lampyridae, and of the royal bloodline in his Sept.
Tumblr media
This ones a bit of a rushed sketch, but it's the only one I have of a kimair character. I kinda neglect them a lot lmao even tho I truly love em sm.
This is Goose (she/her), a kimair. She's the youngest of the main characters in my story and is very young throughout the main story so of course this is her as an adult lols. Big buff girlboss, I love her❤️
Tumblr media
I have a LOT more characters than just these guys ofc, this is just an introduction post to get people connected to my OCs. I've been working a lot on these guys for a long while, and the stories coming together so nicely. It's gone through TONS of changes throughout it's lifetime, and I'm very content with where it is now. I hope to soon, in the soon far future at least, finally start putting this universe into production.

In regards to the notes in your last post about Travis-- yes, while he isn't really my favorite character (just comes off as a bit... boring?) I think he is deeply sympathetic, and obviously just a kid-- a teenage boy grappling with grief and emotions and unfortunately being a bit of a jerk about it.
That said... It really rubs me the wrong way about how he treated Javi in season one. I know the death scare made him do a complete 180 (and I actually think their bond is super sweet and one of the most redeeming things about Travis as a character), but Javi was mourning his father too in the first season, and Travis acted completely distant and cold in a situation where Javi was the youngest one and clearly vulnerable. Also, I think his reasons for being mad at Nat are currently completely justified and understandable (though I see it from Nat's perspective too.)... but the slutshaming in the first season? Yikes. I get that he's a teenage boy, and he was socialized that way and was making up for being insecure about being a virgin, but that doesn't justify his misogyny that she sort of just... put up with? In short-- season 1 travis << season 2 travis, but I still need more from him to be fully won over. he's just kind of a guy? who's a dude?
hi hello i typed out like three paragraphs to this and tumblr deleted them......but the gist was. yr not wrong at all !
i think part of what finding travis unsympathetic about in s1 is how, like w the girls, we get a set up of a character archetype that is then subverted by showing us the unsustainability of the performance that demands it.
travis in s1 is broken w grief and (from the pov of his assigned duties as they fall to his narrative role) he fails his brother. the thing is javi does start forming bonds w the girls but natalie is the only person travis gets close to in s1, and the implosion of that + his misguided misogyny imo serves an equal and opposite function to jackie's loneliness, in that we see how being estranged from society doesn't remove the tensions inherent to these social dynamics but rather warps them. jackie's repression is physically incompatible with surroundings that require your blood in exchange for survival. it's also shown most obviously in how jackie and travis have sex with neither of them really enjoying or wanting it, but the alternative would be to lose whats kept them sane so far.
thats the branching path here, i think. the horrifying scene at the doomcoming with the girls assaulting travis, and jackie not participating but having had sex with him earlier, both serve to display the hunger of the narrative for the dregs of what holds power in "society." its why travis goes from being in love with natalie and too immersed in his grief to look at javi to worshipping lottie and not only making up for his earlier neglect of javi but also going out of his way in the acknowledgement of javi's potential connection to The Thing Out There when he comes back different.
and this is only one (messily-worded) interpretation among what is imo a nesting doll of character motivations and arcs as pertaining to travis alone. obviously there are other factors in this change that coexist with and comment on The Horrors, not all of which i agree with, but i don't want to make this any longer than it already is especially given its been a while since i watched s1 and i'll have to rewatch to fully get into what the show's exploration of themes says in ways im barely scratching the surface of here
all this is like. far more speculative than what youve talked about and its not to say i disagree with anything you've mentioned !! im marginally interested in travis primarily for what his relationship with natalie does for his survival out in the woods but hes very much a tertiary character!
my post was more abt how ppl managing to hate travis and like jeff at the same time is in such poor taste bc like......ive seen the jokeposts ive seen the reasoning for why jeff understands shauna but he really doesnt lol. he does see her, and thats bc he read her diaries w/o her consent. propping up jeff as some pinnacle of spousal support when he cowers from who shauna is at every turn, while failing to understand why travis acts the way he does and disliking him bc his (past) misogyny was more overt than jeff's is, is very shortsighted. caveat that ppl are free to dislike whoever they want, i disliked travis in s1 too, etc etc
ok lastly. im very interested in the seeds of lottie/travis and lottienat in the cadence of prophet/worshipper and prophetskeptic respectively in that they're all performances akin to how they had to play a part outside. and it wasnt any less about desperate survival outside than it is now, its just that the transparency of the stakes has changed. so travis' role has my attention for now

When you go from playing the party dad in one campaign(Family Fate and Futility AKA.Seren’s ) to playing a campaign inspired by the life series and you are currently the youngest CHARACTER, not player or PC, but CHARACTER in the whole campaign….im making everyone including the NPC look at this neglected and traumatized child on a death game and go “Ah yes is free real state *adopts and goes to fight their parents*”. Also that kid is starting this campaign with a It/She/They but let’s see how long that She is staying there :)

oh yea book review
Okay this is actually about a series called A court of thorns and roses. This series is hot garbage. Will I read more if they come out with more? Yes absolutely. It's kinda like bad reality TV.
The list of my qualms with the books, in no particular order
Maas writing herself into a hole where the enemy is very OP and instead of having the characters plan an actual coordinated attack so they could defeat him, had the fucking main character's neglectful father show up with an armada and the boats named after his daughters. Extra insane since he forced his youngest daughter to hunt and provide for the family when they became poor.
Only respecting the PTSD of Feyre 😇 So Feyre and Tamlin both go through a traumatic event together. Feyre gets locked away and has to do these trials and Tamlin is spellbound and weak and is forced to watch. So Tamlins ptsd makes him really want to keep Feyre safe and basically hide her away from the world which directly conflicts with Feyres ptsd. So Tamlin lashes out and they even exploit it for a plot point???? Look I'm not saying tamlins a good guy but GEEZ. They also kept rubbing it in his face that Feyre ended up with someone else. Idk very childish and kinda cruel
C sections don't exist???? Like there's technology and magic but we can't figure out a fucking c section???
YALL....THEY FUCKED ON THE BATTLEFIELD TO THE SOUND OF DYING MEN...
Mate bonds being the rarest thing ever but every fucking couple has one like...please be so fr rn
She would introduce characters and then not elaborate more but of course they show up during the big fight and never appear again like sttooooPPPpp like it just feels so not well planned out
There's probably a lot more that's fucking annoying but that's all I can think or rn.

This was an OC question prompt I filled out for fun in the discord
01. Oldest OC: My oldest OC is a black wolf named Galar. She has purple boot markings and usually stained with blood. She was actually a side character to a larger story that has long since been scrapped.
02. Newest OC: My newest oc is an unnamed witch from a story I have about magic, fantastical creatures and the scientific world coexisting in one place.
03. Favorite OC: My favorite original character answer at some point easily would have been either Sharu or Lamis, with Fifi coming close behind, but at any given moment I usually have one or two ocs I'm particularly infatuated with and couldn't be for sure.
04. Favorite OC Design: My favorite design I've done that I still own is Scarlet, a "foxpixie"(original species). His design is simple and pleasing to me without being unnatural.
05. Main Reason For Making OCs: Self expression, connecting with others by creating characters that harbor relatable aspects of myself, and just the challenge of it.
06. Character Creation Process: World > Vague Archetype > Vague Appearance > Refining Character Traits > Refining Appearance > Complete Character
07. Do You Ship Your OCs W/ Someone Else's: Romantically, not at the moment, but I wouldn't be opposed to it if I thought the characters would make a good match beyond just their aesthetics
08. Fav OC Ship?: Sharu x Chotsea favorite. Runnerups Taka x Scarlet, and Dusty x Fifi though those two make the best friends already.
09. Weirdest OC: Currently I believe Adek would have to be weirdest. They're a nervous wreck who just as easily switches and finds unwavering confidence as they take different forms while shapeshifting.
10. Villain OCs: Pelona the plant. He is redeemable to a point but his self hatred governs all his actions and he commits terrible acts against those around him in order to isolate himself. Then he turns into an uncontrollable mass of hatred. So yeah, him.
11. Would You Consider Yourself Nice To Your OCs: My older ones, yes. My newer ones, not so much. They go through much more pain.
12. An OC You've Killed (If You Haven't Killed Anyone, Who Would You Kill?): Pelona dies at the end of their story and comes back as a sad, small plant with no semblance of consciousness so I guess that counts. I have multiple alternate endings to Scarlet's story, where the character Muldoon can die in one of them, his loyal knight Ettore along with him.
13. Are Any Of Your OCs Parents: Yes, a few of my cantin OCs are parents (Ixias, Nelif and Paraiba). Sharu and Chotsea were once going to be parents but I undid that.
14. Are There Any OCs You Find Yourself Neglecting: Absolutely. I have neglected all the humanoid OCs in my "solarwitch" world for years. I also neglect most of my OCs made from 2014-2018. I still love them though.
15. An OC That's Difficult To Write/Draw/RP: Dorothy the skunk/cow hybrid has been unnaturally difficult for me to write any backstory for, let alone draw. I don't RP.
16. Tallest And Shortest OCs: Going by relative height to other developed (fully grown) characters in their worlds; CG, Yuuma. Fairy Queen, Periwinkle. As for OCs with no specific universe, Chotsea or Under might be the tallest, Fudgey is the smallest.
17. Oldest and Youngest OCS: Tellstruths and an unnamed dragonfly are ancient in age, while Clauze is the youngest developed OC I have. All are from the Redgrass world
18. Do You Dislike Any Of Your OCs: Dolores is an OC I made my sona as a joke as he is very unlike me. He's high strung and doesn't get along with my other sonas. Therefore he is the closest to disliked, though even then I can't really dislike any of my characters since I made them.
19. Have You Ever Made A Self Insert: I assume this is referring specifically to making a fancharacter for a piece of media that is supposed to represent myself if I were in said world. None come to mind.
20. An OC Regret: I don't give enough love to my OCs and that is regrettable. A design I regret making maybe? I don't have one...
21. An OC You Didn't Expect To Be Popular: Speagle. I knew kidcore stuff was popular but I didn't think people would like him enough to be downloading his pics to put in moodboards and adding him to their kin tags. As for a more recent example, Marbol was more well received than I thought he would be for a little green gremlin thing, so that was nice.
22. An OC You Didn't Expect To Love: I expect to love any OC I design to keep, but Adek in particular was just so silly to begin with I didn't think I'd be so attached to him. His name literally used to be obscenities bc of how much of a joke he was. He's stupid and a scaredy cat and I have a special soft spot for him now.
