for someone wanting to get into Natsumes book of friends, would you recommend the show or the manga/ what are the pros or cons of each?
(I'm gonna tag this for my own archival but please don't argue with me about this it's just my opinion and I don't feel like it)
I haven't really read the full manga so I might not be the exact best person to ask on that! However, my introduction was the anime and I think it's a great intro.
For the manga...I don't want to anger anyone but I gotta be honest here...the art doesn't really do it for me a lot of the time especially compared to the anime. It's a very loose, sketchy style, and sometimes it an be a little hard to tell characters apart or they look just a little less cohesive in the anime (Hinoe is an example, she's got such a flashy vibe in the anime but looks a little weird in the manga imo, at least in the early chapters).
There's not a lot of backgrounds, which is a kind of common shoujo style and works for a lot of shoujo, but a big charm point in the anime is the pastoral vibes, the feeling of this vast wilderness Natsume is exploring and the sleepy small town vibes, you really feel whatever season it is...the anime's art is just generally more detailed and expansive.
The anime also has the luxury of arranging things to have more narrative cohesion. The story is fairly episodic, so though it does have character development and ongoing plotlines, the chapters can be moved around easily.
It's pretty clear in the manga Midorikawa is making it up as she goes along (she directly says this) so chapters that involving a character or theme can be father apart in the manga, while the anime generally tries to arrange things so it fits a certain theme or arc, so we get a little focus on each reoccurring character at least once per season, the first season especially. I think a big example of this was I was really surprised it took so long to introduce Natsume's foster dad in the manga (he shows up in ep 6 of the anime and chapter 19 in the manga) and in the mangaka's notes she says she was just maybe going to allude to him like Columbo's wife (lol) at first and didn't have a place to fit him in until this chapter. He's a pretty important presence in Natsume's life, so it made sense the anime introduces him a bit earlier.
The anime also adds a lot of original content, and integrates it so well I can't really tell it apart most of the time! I was surprised most of seaon 2 episode 5 was anime original because it lines up so well with the rest and is an episode I really love.
And there were some mild characterization changes I like, such as with Hinoe. I like that the anime also apparently integrates Natsume's gal pals into the friend group much more. According to a post I saw trawling through Taki's tag, she doesn't actually hang out with the broader friend group in the manga? Like we don't really see her with Nishimura and Kitamoto (natsume's "average guy" friends), just as part of a trio, whereas in the anime there's lots of time she's just included in the full group. And there was an entire backstory focus episode on a (older and morally ambigious!!!) female character that was anime original too, so that's nice.
There's also the soundtrack which is SUCH an all time great, it's so soothing and chill.
ON THE OTHER HAND, the manga is still great, and there are a lot of little moments I'm noticing that the anime misses that are pretty cool. Bits of backstory, extra characterization flourishes, sad and sweet moments, sometimes a plot point makes a lot more sense, and so on.
There's also the occasional "something I didn't quite like in the anime isn't in the manga" moment, but nothing major.
So I think reading the manga is a great experience, but you should probably check out the anime first, I think it's a better entry point, and after that you can read the manga.

I'm questioning some type of feline and some sort of bird capable of flight!) i am both a digital and traditional artist but I usually don't post my traditional art due to a shitty camera 😔 so I might post digital art here and there or TRY to get an ok picture of my traditional stuff, since I mainly do traditional.

Should You Watch The Anime? (An Intro Post)
Should You Trust My Thoughts on Anime?
I figure if I’m going to be publishing my thoughts on anime, you may as well get to know some of my likes and dislikes to see if you vibe with said thoughts.  Or, I guess if you don’t vibe with me, you can use my reviews to avoid the shows I do like. XD
I’m still working on a definitive Top 10 Anime list, but I’ll be honest… I may never have that list done as new shows are coming out all the time.  So instead I’ll list out a few of my favorite anime in different genres to give you an idea of what I like.
Heads up that I’m a bit on the older side, plus I got into anime when I was fairly young.  That means there will be shows here from a good span of decades!
Magical Girl: Sailor Moon
It’s a nostalgic pick as this was my first real anime, but it still holds up even today.
Sports: Free!
I tend to like my sports anime 80% character interaction, 20% sports.
Mecha: Neon Genesis Evangelion
A classic for a reason.  I get something new from it on every rewatch.
Sci-Fi: Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex
Deep psychological stuff mixed with cool technology in an amazingly put together show.
Isekai: Re: Zero
It’s a good and actually unique isekai with more depth than I expect from the genre.
Shoujo: Fruits Basket (2001)
Yes, I like the original better.  It’s got a great mix of funny moments and tragic angst.
Shounen: Jujutsu Kaisen
This show takes the best parts of other shounen shows and puts it all together in one package.
BL: World’s Greatest First Love
Is it problematic? Yes. But I’m invested in the couples and how they will end up.
Horny: Interspecies Reviewers
Surprisingly deep world building and well animated kinky stuff?  Sign me up.
???: Samurai Flamenco
I love everything about this anime.  It defies genre.
Do I Hate Any Anime?
There is a redeeming feature or lesson learned from every anime I’ve watched, so you won’t see me list any hated shows here.  There are certainly some anime I’ve watched that make me think I really could have spent my time better doing anything else, though. >.<
If I get bored or don’t love a show, I will not be afraid to mention that.  I’m not being sponsored by anyone, so there’s no need to curb my own opinion.
My History With Anime
I’m putting this part last because you may not care about when/how I got into anime.  And that’s A-Ok with me.  But if you are curious, here you go.
As a very small child I was exposed to shows like Voltron, but I didn’t know it was anime at the time.  Then Sailor Moon started airing on broadcast television (I didn’t have cable TV growing up), and I got absolutely obsessed.
In a perfect storm, the internet started becoming easily accessible around the same time, so I hopped online to get more Sailor Moon in my life.  In doing this, I started seeing links to other recommended “anime” - which I pronounced as Anne-Nyme at the time.
Between Blockbuster, Suncoast Video, and the local comic shop (which no longer exists, sadly), I dove into the world of anime. I sank my teeth into things like the Dirty Pair movies, Ranma 1/2, Record of Lodoss War, and even pre-ordered each VHS of Neon Genesis Evangelion as it was coming out. $25.01 for each tape with 2 episodes on it (dubbed, since it was cheaper and I only had my allowance to work with). I was dedicated to the hobby.
I never stopped liking anime from that point on. I ended up leading two anime clubs (high school and college), and I still host a group of friends every week to come over and watch anime.
I'll post a link to my MAL, but it's not complete. I've seen too many shows and have forgotten some along the way. I'm concentrating more on shows I've actually completed on the MAL and probably won't mess with trying to find all the stuff I watched decades ago.
And that about wraps things up for the intro. I've been watching 10-15 shows a season lately (plus whatever we watch in anime club), so I have a lot to talk about. Let me help you figure out if you should watch the anime!

May Manga Mayhem - Day 1
Tumblr media
It's May the 1st and today we are doing the revolution in France !! This re-enactment is the perfect opportunity to talk about Versailles no Bara
The Rose of Versailles is a fascinating series: among the first to be set in an historical setting, Riyoko Ikeda's work influence on shoujo manga can still be seen today. Her elaborate and intricate style is gorgeous -I gasped at so many page turns- and fit the dramatic scenes very well. This was such a resounding success that this work got multiple anime, drama and scenic adaptations.
The story itself, apart from being very instructive even for a French person, is pretty groundbreaking in its presentation of gender and relationships. The main character Oscar, a woman raised like a male soldier by her father, is blending the frontier of the gender binary. Although it struggles to totally emancipate from gender norms (it was published in 1971 after all), the limits are pushed pretty far, and it's pretty delightful to read. I did experience a bit of gender euphoria reading it.
To my sense it is a crucial reading to build up your manga culture, considering how much impact it had on the manga landscape.
To wrap things up, I encourage you to listen at least the intro of the anime op. Sets the dramatic mood really well !

JVC Post #13
˚୨୧⋆ ˚。⋆ Sailor Moon⋆ ˚。⋆୨୧˚
I LOVE SAILOR MOON
Tumblr media
Sailor Moon is a great series, but I think more than anything it's notable for it's success in the west. It was the first successful shoujo anime here in the west, and it opened the door not only for many other shoujo works being imported to the US, but also for a new style of story.
When I think of girls' cartoons involving woman warriors in the west before Sailor Moon, the only stand out examples are She-Ra and (marginally) Thundercats. The state of girls' animated entertainment at the time was shows like Care Bears, Strawberry Shortcake, or Jem and the Holograms. Most girls' shows focused on sappy drama and romance, maybe dancing or singing (TV was ahead in this regard though, I suspect largely because people didn't take animated media seriously as a medium at the time). I believe Sailor Moon had a hand in changing that, although not immediately of course.
It became clear later on that many of the people who grew up on shows like Sailor Moon and The Powerpuff Girls went on to carry the torch into shows like Miraculous Ladybug, the She-Ra reboot, and Star vs. the Forces of Evil. The influence of Sailor Moon was also massive in Japan of course, leading to works like Tokyo Mew Mew and the ever-popular Pretty Cure.
The manga didn't take off as quickly unfortunately. Nonetheless, you can see in the manga the way the shoujo art style progressed in the years since Rose of Versailles. Still quite similar but with a more modern (for the time) art style.
The way in which Sailor Moon places super feminine young girls into a traditionally masculine position (protecting the world from evil) and allows them to encapsulate that position of power without robbing them of their femininity is cool. It's a hallmark of the magical girl genre I think, and Sailor Moon is maybe the most popular example of this. The paper by Newsom shed some light on this though, and points out how this stereotypical girlishness, even when shown to be a source of power (Girl Power), is still binding as it constrains expression to the idea of girlishness defined by patriarchal constructs.
I know psychoanalysts would refer to this sort of "masculine" woman character as a "phallic woman", and Saito proceeds to do, but I think this frame of critique is flawed.
It places the "phallus" on a symbolic pedestal, proceeding with this strange outdated phallic monism (phallus in this context is not the penis). I just can't see how this point of view and way of thinking could be wholly useful in denoting anything useful critically. To me, it's incomprehensible. That's not to say psychoanalysis has absolutely no merit, I just don't get why people are still critiquing through it in the current century.
Tumblr media
I enjoyed the intro to Girl Power a good bit more. I think the way Newsom points out the contradictory nature of "Girl Power" is very interesting. I was confused when she said that the Sailor Scouts are sexualized and presented as sexual though, as I never got that vibe watching it. Maybe she means something different by it, or I'm thinking in terms of extremes. Either way, the way she sets up her essay on how Sailor Moon presents the conflict for "girl power practitioners" between "normal" femininity and the "tough girl" persona is great. I'll definitely end up reading the rest of it eventually.

BHAAHSD i’m sorry i should have given some warnings, i remember how uncomfortable i was the first time i watched it. it gives me comfort now bc it’s familiar hadhs
personal favorite episodes are:
3) just bc there’s a rlly funny moment that makes me cry from laughing almost every time (tho admittedly i cry easily when laughing)
5) stargazing date with a rlly cute and blushy college student who at one point goes on a rant about astronomy
8) a very preppy/popular college guy comes bothering you during lunch, invites you on a mixer and when you say you’re not going, he decides he’s not going either (i just like the trope of ‘popular falls for boring/normal’). and he has a suggestive intro pic, where he’s. completely naked under the sheets. the blanket covers his ass though.
10) the most suggestive episode with the twins, where they essentially break into your room in the middle of the night to play a very invasive game while being kind of bullies (you work at the same place as them and the boss is mean to you)
11) Old Man…… need i say more? he’s the oldest character, 41 years old, and he runs a food stall you stop at late at night. he’s a bit flirty, but also very very nice to you, noticing you’re troubled and trying to comfort you…. with quotes from his bible, a shoujo manga haHASD
also the guy from ep 2 has a rlly suggestive intro pic (you can see it during that episode’s intro); his shirt’s open and his pants are very clearly removed, as they are next to his head. his episode’s fine, just a bit too boring for me.
hopefully these make you less uncomfortable <3
-SLP anon
SJFKFLVLV i felt so bad about it too bc i was like noooo anon recommended this but it was. creepy. but i think it’s also bc i put it on my phone right in front of me bc i was going to sleep so i took my glasses off but i can’t see shit without my glasses so he was right in front of me and. his face scared me.
ok ty ty ill give it another try because old man 🤤🤤🤤
thank u bestie, i ended up switching to ol reliable after anyway (calm app traveling ireland by train narrated by cillian murphy)

Hananene Analysis: A Fatal Love Pt. 1
pt.2 <--
WARNING; I'm open to all criticisms as long as they are peaceful and passive. I am not anti-hananene and any and all people aggressive comments/replies would be blocked.
Intro: Yashiro and Hanako’s relationship, at the start, used to be very simple and sweet like the rest of the plot. But as time goes on it starts to get a lot more complicated and messier. So the question is, are they still good together? A healthy relationship consists of the following traits: respect, honesty, trust, open communication, and compromise to do each other's part in the relationship. An unhealthy relationship is something that lacks any or all of these things. And when there’s a power imbalance between the partners. Do Yashiro and Hanako fit the criteria to be a good couple or will they just flop indefinitely?
Yashiro:
Yashiro, compared to the rest of the cast, is a very normal girl. She has a regular family thag subsides the supernatural world, plays idol games, likes spooky stories, gardening, and most of all is her love for romance. On top of all that, she’s naive and she wears her heart on her sleeve. It’s very easy to read her because she’s 100% all the time, especially during the first chapters. She can get upset, but happy very quickly. Yashiro is very reckless and doesn’t exactly think twice about what she’s about to do, getting herself into many risky situations. But, she does have good intentions and genuinely does care about the people around her. Yashiro’s also very kind and sensitive as well. When it comes to Aoi, she senses as though she isn’t fully letting out her heart even when it comes to her and wishes that she would be more honest. And in the current time of writing this, she’s willing to sacrifice herself so that Aoi can live.
Her main flaw was how focused on love and romance, doing reckless things for the sake of her love life. She may have grown out of that phase, but she still thinks of it from time to time. Getting a boyfriend is something that Yashiro, quite obviously, really wants. She goes as far as to summon a ghost and work for him. As well as grow her hair out, take on gardening, sewing, all to appeal to a boy she barely talked to. But why? Why go through all this trouble? For herself. She’s doing it all for herself. I think Yashiro’s ultimate goal is to experience true love for herself, believing it to be a necessity. To have that stereotypical love that’s shoehorned in every other romantic shoujo manga. And it’s not so far fetched either, as though a lot of girls Yashiro’s age fall for this ideology. Infact, so do a lot of characters. Characters like Yako and Sumire. Through them she discovers she may not even want romantic love, but because she feels as though it’s necessary for her too.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But, as the manga goes on and gets more complicated, it might be hard to miss, but you can see Yashiro’s transition into not wanting a lover fade away. And it’s made abundantly clear in the Picture Perfect Arc. Her goal went towards living her life. She learns that she’ll die in a year, but she manages to triumph it by exclaiming how she still what’s to escape the Picture Perfect world, and face what was real and live. A lot of people would have broken down in fear, but she overcame that. And when Aoi and Hanako first disappeared, she was very depressed, but managed to overcome that too. Which is extremely strong of her and she doesn’t get enough credit. Whether it’ll be she’s in denial or not she held her head up high. But that’s for another time, meantime, this shows how throughout the story she’s learning that life isn’t all about romance. She’s growing and getting stronger. But, she still acts on her heart a lot.
Tumblr media
In the beginning, all she really did was help out Hanako, being his assistant or “priestess”. Helping him get rid of their yorshiro and keeping the peace of the school and such in hopes she can get a boyfriend. But after the Sacrifice of the Grim Reaper arc her goals change to helping out Hanako to saving him and Aoi. Yashiro has gone through a lot. Even from the very beginning she dealt with supernaturals attacking her. And throughout the story, there’s just been more and more misfortune. From what happened to Mistuba, Yashiro learning she'll die in a year, and then Aoi and Hanako dying, it’s a lot. Especially for a regular girl like Yashiro. Yashiro doesn’t even have a clear idea of how far this rabbit hole goes, or how much history that goes on. Yashiro perseveres though, in trying to help others and trying to do what is right. But obviously, she’s not doing all that well if chapter 91 wasn’t evident enough. There are little hints even before this that suggests she still is struggling. She gets herself into many dangerous situations from the Red House, to the current chapters. All in hopes of saving them. She even goes as far as sacrificing herself to ensure her friend is well. Which is scary to say the least. She went from being bright and compassionate in the beginning, to wanting to give it all up. Her development turns to a complete 180, from wanting to live her life to that.

Hanako:
Hanako, if you look past his otherworldly characteristics and supernatural talents, is most definitely a 14 year old boy. He’s very childish, likes to joke around a lot, and doesn’t seem to take things terribly seriously from the get-go. He’s a great contrast to Yashiro, who’s very extreme in her ways. But, he’s pretty liable and smart. He holds responsibility for being the leader of the other school mystery’s and does his job pretty well.
But even then, he’s very insecure and quick to quit on things and let things run as they are, even if they are bad, unless it involves Yashiro. We see it in the Picture Perfect Arc when he was just going to let Yashiro die in the world, and in this arc where he wants to let Aoi die in place of Yashiro. This could be linked to the fact that as a supernatural being, he has seen people give into hope and fail countless times. Or into his own trauma with Tsukasa.
Obviously, he does come with his fair share of trauma. And by fair I mean not fair at all. He dealt with bullying and ended up taking his own life right before taking his brother. This would screw up anybody's perception of life as a whole. Not even accounting for the fact that for over 50 years he hardly had any good relationships. Having relationships and connections is important for anybody, especially when you are so young. So, it’s really no wonder that he’ll have trouble empathizing with people properly or understanding what he did wrong.
Tumblr media
Hanako lacks those traits and it especially shows in the Picture Perfect Arc when he holds Yashiro and Kou captive in the picture perfect world. He apologized for doing so, but right after in the Sacrifice of the Grim Reaper Arc. He goes ahead and sacrifices Aoi so that Yashiro can live, and lets himself die. In the current chapters, he shows no remorse for what he did, believing that it was worth it because Yashiro got to live. He wants to help out Yashiro, and even Kou, but he lacks the mental flexibility to do so correctly. This is a huge flaw that continuously hinders his relationships with not only Yashiro, but others as well.
Tumblr media
He’s very impulsive and selfish, but that’s to be fair for a supernatural being. He’s naturally evil, but he keeps a good heart which is condemnable. He has had a lot of regrets for over 50 years, and even if he has trouble empathizing with others, he still has the capacity to do it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When he was with Aoi in the train to the far shore, he managed to relate to her. That is a big step.

The Banished Villainess! Living the Leisurely Life of a Nun Making Revolutionary Church Food (Manga)
Created by: Tsumuji Yoshimura
Genre: Shoujo/Isekai
This manga was something I found after I saw some screenshot of it floating around on tumblr. It's actually pretty cute, especially for the main pair of the nun and the knight and much of it is actually rather of slice of life, which is cool. The yandere in this one doesn't appear until halfway through the story, though he doesn't stay (or two, I suppose, depending on what your take is on the other one) and so far this manga has 22 chapters as of writing this review.
The story mostly revolves around Elizabeth living her life as a nun, making friends with nobles, helping to cook and plan in festivals and bazars and of course, getting close to Leo. The first yandere of this story appears when she is chaperoning someone to the ball and ends up meeting Prince Michel. Elizabeth had attempted to break off his route with him when she was younger since she didn't want to end up in the yandere route, though it doesn't have seemed to work considering that Michel is still pining after her. The next we see of him is when his family comes over to hunt. Michel runs into the woods after finding a scent of a young deer (something that Elizabeth wants to use for food) only to have Leo run after him too (as he wants Elizabeth's favor). Upon reaching there, Michel attempts to shoot Leo, but instead succeeds in pushing him off the cliff. Thinking he's dead, Michel goes back to Elizabeth and chases after her until they're both trapped in a cabin in the woods. There Michel attempts to make the two "official" (well, you can guess what that means), while Leo runs towards the cabin after climbing up the cliff and following Elizabeth's scent. Elizabeth is able to stop the two from destroying each other by yelling out a really cheesy romance line ("Stop fighting for my sake!"), which somehow is able to resolve Michel's feelings (as of now, this is the last chapter he's in, but it's possible he still might come back to chase Elizabeth).

The next yandere (?) that comes is when Elizabeth is selling food at a city with her nun family before bumping into him while holding apples. This causes a intro scene to play, leading Elizabeth to wonder who the character is. She donates for a raffle that ends up leading to a raffle for a date with this character. She wins a date with this knight, Alphonse, before Leo attempts to butt in again. We learn about Alphonse's route, where his happy ending ends with killing everyone in the capital of Moise (where Elizabeth goes to) so that the two can be together. She ends up dressing up and goes to the date with Alphonse, though she doesn't seem at all interested in him and the entire time is looking for Leo to see if he has followed her. This causes Alphonse to become jealous and forces Elizabeth to look at him. After that, there's some things about declaration of war and taking a hot spring bath.
This is what I call "technically there's a yandere" where there is a yandere character in the story, but they're either not a huge part of the story, or more one-off and it's more of an excuse for me to talk about a manga I like. There are probably a few more of these types of recommendations in the future because I do what I want on this blog.
For this one, I actually didn't know that Michel wouldn't be a reoccurring character (though, he might come back, who knows) until I started writing the recommendation itself. As a yandere character, he's pretty plain, basically just being a rival towards Leo and hinting towards Elizabeth that she won't be able to avoid the events in the game regardless of what she does. His general yandere actions are basic though, being obsessed with Elizabeth, getting jealous when Leo goes near, trying to off Leo by shooting/pushing him off of a cliff and (I guess) attempting to force Elizabeth in the woods. He does have some good panels, but overall his character is very obviously used to just build comedy and Leo's relationship towards Elizabeth. I do like that we got to see the bad ending for Michel's route via Elizabeth's dreams where she gets captured in a cage since that was interesting. Unfortunately, Michel's route seems suddenly resolved or at least put on hold until the future, though we do see that he did feel lonely without Elizabeth there with him and that he regrets that she was banished.
In terms of Alphonse, his ending honestly seems to me pretty yandere-like, especially since he kills the entirety of a capital just so he can be with Elizabeth and comes off much more like a possessive yandere, considering he always states that "she is his" rather than confess love like how Michel usually did. He also embodies the prince/playboy archetype, though I honestly found most of his lines annoying since Elizabeth shows very little interest towards him. The only real yandere actions we've seen from him so far is that he gets jealous and forces Elizabeth to look at him when she's looking around for Leo. Other than that, we don't see much of him as of yet, since it pushes off with more of a Leo plot.
Leo himself could be considered a light protective yandere since he also does exhibit some traits that yanderes have. First off, he's already stalking Elizabeth throughout the story, generally to protect her, but nevertheless still stalking. We don't really know why he's doing this (other than he loves her) and the only real backstory on why he likes her is when they were younger, Elizabeth gave him a flower. He always attempts to get things for her, like the young deer during the hunting arc and he even is able to sniff out where Elizabeth was trapped in after Michel hunted him down. He gets jealous over all of the love interests that go after her including his own childhood friend, the count. Still though, most of his actions (with the exception that he was somehow able to sniff out where Elizabeth was hiding, which I guess you can attribute to his hunting/knight skills if you squint) are the result of poor communication skills and his straightforward nature. He is very blunt and literal when he talks and when he listens to people, and his face is often very stoic, which leads to people being scared off. While much of his actions is due to his love for Elizabeth, he is still pretty tame for a yandere, if he even is one. That being said, he's really cute when he's near or trying to impress Elizabeth (one of my favorite kinds of male leads are ones who are more stoic but get really flustered around the person that they like) , so it's nice to see how their relationship will continue in the future.
The story itself, as I've said, is very slice of life, which I quite like. Elizabeth herself isn't too bad of a protagonist either because while she is completely ignorant of Leo's feelings towards her (literally everyone else is aware of it), she does have a lot of strengths namely her cooking, as well as planning and entrepreneur skills in terms of getting money for the church. The aura of the series can sometimes get a bit darker, but for the most part, the story is very light hearted and comedic and nothing stays too serious to for too long.
Overall, a fun series to read through. Leo especially is really cute with his feelings towards Elizabeth and I had fun screen capping a bunch of them to barrage Cherry with.

okay so i finally got replace I & II a while back (they were the only ones i was missing lmao)
i flipped to the character intro page for each book and found these pictures of kise:
Tumblr media
(left: I; right: II)
my first reaction was easily “damn out of all the pictures they could’ve chosen why did they pick these two???” because isn’t this expressionless person sporting such an empty, apathetic gaze who kise used to be, way back before his really shoujo manga-ish fateful meeting with aomine????? i was like “couldn’t they have chosen a better picture?” and out of curiosity, decided to check his pictures in replace III-VI (which i haven’t read in like 5 years 🗿)
this was his picture in III:
Tumblr media
while he’s not smiling, his gaze is definitely not empty when compared to the pictures above. 🥺
and next we have IV-XI:
Tumblr media
(left: IV; right: V-VI)
IV is just *uwu intensifies* *cuteness overload* *explodes in sheer bliss*
anyway, that bright, genuine smile in IV is exactly the one that made me love him so much in the first place 🥺🥺🥺 try looking at the first two pictures again; is anyone else a hard time wrapping your head around how they’re literally the same guy? 🥺🥺🥺
in that picture on the right, he’s not smiling as brightly, but he’s still smiling nonetheless — he went from always having this cold, indifferent expression to greeting everyone with a smile 🥺
now, i really don’t know if this was done on purpose, but somehow this change in picture choice managed to show how kise changed from someone who had no goal in life and was always a loner (yes, he had fans, but they were only drawn to his looks, and he was always shown to be alone during lunch and after school) before joining the team, to eventually falling in love with basketball and aominecchi, having real friends, and discovering new goals, as well as becoming someone who always smiles brightly from the heart in the presence of his friends and doesn’t face people with that cold exterior anymore (except for people he dislikes lol) 🥺🥺🥺
aaaaaaaa i just want to say that the ball that hit him at the back of his head is the best shot aomine made in the whole series — even better than those cool ass formless shots!!!!!!!!! 🥺🥺🥺 he definitely chucked it at the back of kise’s head on purpose i remember someone explaining it with physics

do you have any good manga to recommand?
I'm not a weeb so I don't know much and I only ever read ones that took my attention and decided to give them a shot, ones like mha, jjk, spyxfamily, and I recently caught up to chainsawman.
So yeah I only keep track of these 4
BUT
BUT
BUT!! HOWEVER!!
There is this one by Nagabe called totsukuni no shoujo!! About a girl and her wendigo gaurdian! It reliefs the lil itch in my brain that likes medieval settings with supernatural elements and my love for things bittersweet. It's funky!!
There's also Kara no Kioku!! Illus by Newo I believe? And they're about eve's characters!! This time it's a modern setting with supernatural elements lmao!! Another funky one!! (also eve's a good musician he made the intro song for jjk and I believe he's making one of the ending songs for the chainsawman anime)
ah I suppose I should also include noragami and soul eater too. both features people turning into weapons except noragami has gods and a catgirl. I'm not too sure tho, since it's been long since I've read noragami and I've never personally read soul eater but seen the anime but still give it a read cuz fancy magic weapon-people are cool as fuck
Other than that I think that's it? I remember I was about to read one bc someone I follow in insta showed a panel of it and I thought it's funny but I forgot and I don't know what the manga is so that bummed me out but it is what it is
i dont read a lot others but these are ones that i like lmao
(be cautious tho since there are adult content in some. it's not explicit but I did seen some shit. I'm not bothered but do read them at your own risk lmao)

Another trip to the bookstore. This time was a bit meh because they didn’t have next volume of Kaiju no9, Witch Hat Atelier, Doctor Stone, or anything like that.
They didn’t even have vol 4 of Solo Levelling, but when I flipped through vol 5, I decided to drop it for good. While the colors are beautiful, I don’t really like the narrow faces and the way bodies are drawn, I don’t remember who any of the characters are, I don’t know what’s going on, and I don’t care for the political maneuvering or whatever.
Two more casualties were “Butterfly-rat body swap" and “Hero Life of Mediocre Demon.” First one is a female lead manga set in a vaguely Chinese harem, but I don’t generally like the JP take on that. Second one is fairly whatever, but their first major beat after intros was “MC accidentally makes his hot vampire classmate into his slave via magic,” so no thanks.
What I did read (these are abbreviated titles btw):
Succubus and Hitman, vol 1: Gory and edgy, but it caries itself along in a pretty snappy way, so I’m okay to continue at least for now.
The Boys Love Me Anyway, vol 1: Fairly standard “fem MC wakes up as a child villainess and wins over all the capture targets before they hit puberty.” I’m not sure whether to laugh or roll my eyes at how helping randos is just something she’s been doing habitually since age 2 (?!).
The important part is her meido, Melo, whom the MC introduces by “she’s so beautiful and wonderful, if I was a boy I’d definitely marry her,” they have a special bond since childhood, and Melo also inexplicably dresses like a boy when they go out to shop, to the point that I was wondering if she’s actually a crossdresser, but apparently not.
Tumblr media
Cross-dressing Villainess Cecilia Sylvie, vol 1: The MC transmigrates into a villainess and decides the best way to avoid all possibly death flags is to pretend to be a man. She’s got a very “shoujo heroine” personality, but it’s cute enough. The real issue will be whether they drag out the reverse harem hijinks too long.
I do like her adopted brother as a pairing, but the prince is hotter:
Tumblr media
7th Time Loop, vol 1: MC is repeating her life for the 7th time, where after always dying before hitting twenty, she gets returned to the night when the prince broke off their engagement. In every life she’s gone on to become an overachiever in trade, medicine, etc, but in her last life she got killed (in battle, as a knight) by the emperor ML who starts a huge war in every lifetime.
This time, she’s marrying him.
Kind of amusing, and I admit I’m curious about what’s going on behind the scenes. I also like how the ML’s nation has buildings in a similar style to Mond. Apparently, they’re called “half-timbered,” hm.
Tumblr media
Fiancee Chosen by the Ring, vol 1: No transmigration or reincarnator here. Fem MC just ends up engaged by happenstance. Aside from general intrigue of high society, there’s also something about her having a “primordial magic” that happens to make the things she embroiders have passive magical effects. Cute, though not terribly exciting.
Also, I like this unrelated advertisement in the back of one manga. That ML does look like a bride, you go girl, hook up with that vampire.
