some positives about the atla live action series bc as much as i am a hater it's not good for the soul or the critical thinking skills to only hate things forever

the costumes are phenomenal. I really love all the live action character designs, they look fantastic

a lot of these young characters LOOK really really young, which is important. aang is a kid and they cast a kid and he looks like a kid. azula looks very young - in the cartoon (esp when you're a kid) you don't really think about it but she is a child. it's important that they're kids

Hi there! I'm not in the UK, so I wasn't able to see Comic Relief while it aired, or any clips until now.

I didn't notice the tiredness at first, but it definitely seemed to become more visible later in the show, as did the sounding near tears. This moment (which I got from a fan on Twitter who compiled all of David's bits) in particular really got me, as it's so apparent here...

As to what could've been causing this, I think there are several things that could have been happening, possibly even all at once. Up until I got into Good Omens/David/Michael, I wasn't at all familiar with Comic Relief, but having watched the show for a few years now, there are some really striking things I've noticed about how it's structured and what it involves.

On the one hand, you have lots of famous actors and comedians and musicians putting on a show and telling jokes...and then on the other, you have emotional videos of people in dire situations, both in the UK and abroad. And because Comic Relief is live, it's much harder to build in transitions between these two things, so you end up dramatically shifting from lighthearted to serious and back, and it leaves you with a bit of whiplash as a result.

So if those abrupt tonal shifts are difficult for us an audience, they must be even more challenging for the host(s), including David. I think the live aspect of the show makes it very similar to theater and how David might have reacted in differing moments during Macbeth, because we're seeing emotional reactions in real time, without the benefit of editing. Tonight was also the last occasion of Comic Relief that Lenny Henry was hosting after nearly 40 years at the helm, so I feel like that probably made David emotional as well, given how much he has worked with and admires him.

As for the tiredness, it seems there were at least a few interviews that David did prior to the broadcast, so he was probably running around all day trying to get everything done. Then you add to that the chaos of multiple hosts on stage and everyone trying to find their marks (which seems to have been something David was stressing out about a bit in one of the interviews today), plus the charity videos, and it's no wonder that he looked so drained.

(Another thing I also wonder is if David's demeanor had anything to do with sharing the stage with Davina McCall, who was allegedly outed as a TERF last year. Given the attacks from the anti-trans loons that David and Georgia have endured over the last several months, I can imagine that he might not be comfortable co-hosting with someone who espouses such views. And for the record, there was something about Davina that inexplicably annoyed/seemed off to me long before any of the TERF stuff came to light. It seems like my instincts have been confirmed in that regard...)

So yes, those are pretty much all of the things that came to mind regarding David's demeanor at Comic Relief. He's probably been running himself ragged lately with new projects since Macbeth ended (the Genius Game hosting gig, for one, and an appearance on the SmartTV game show, plus multiple upcoming Comic Con appearances), so hopefully he can find some time to relax and breathe in between all of this, because he more than deserves a break.

Steve Harrington’s Halloween party was known amongst the A-list celebrities. 

It was an honour, a privilege, a pleasure to be invited to one of his parties, let alone considered. Everybody talked about the party. Everybody scrambled through their network to get an invite. Everyone who was someone would be there and it was just a known good night, if nothing more.

Being as close as he was, it was no surprise to Eddie that he was invited. But with his tour running in the middle of it’s North America leg and too many hours spent in tour bus than he can cope, the party had slipped his mind until he was on his way over and realised he was lacking a costume. 

So, he worked with what he got and hoped for the best. The last thing he expected was for it to gain any attention.

“Nice costume.”

His eyes were on you the second you walked into the party. Something about you was intriguing, alluring even. You walked in with an aura he didn’t recognise amongst people of your status. In a room full of the biggest names in the world, you seemed to be far above them and he couldn’t help but admire it. He knew who you were. Everyone knew who you were. 

And yet, you were almost unrecognisable amongst the actors and musicians and models.

You were something else entirely.

He watched you walk through the crowd, mingling and chatting and laughing like you were everyone’s best friend. He watched the way you danced like you had the whole night to waste. He watched as every pair of eyes were on you, and somehow your eyes were on him.

“Yeah?” His eyes wandered down to the open white shirt he was wearing, paired with some dark jeans and boots. Add in the smudged eyeliner from the show the night before and his usual jewellery, he really didn't put much effort into his costume. But the dried blood dripping down his chin and throat said otherwise.

“Yeah,” you said with a smile as your fingers trailed over the buttons of his shirt. “Think Dracula can spare me a dance?” 

His lips twitched upwards. “And what do I get from it?”

Your smile screamed mischief. “Maybe I’ll let you bite me.”

His eyes darkened. “Don’t make empty promises, sweetheart.”

“Dance with me then, Munson.” 

And maybe you were just joking. Maybe you were just playing along with his costume. Maybe you didn’t mean anything more than just dancing the night away with him. Maybe you were just as naive as he assumed as you pressed up against him, his hands on you and yours on him. Maybe he should’ve just gone along with it.

But then your hair was flipped over one shoulder and his nose was brushing against your pulse point, and he smelt you. He smelt the blood pulsing through your veins, pumping through your whole body and just tempting him. It wasn’t often that he could feel himself bordering a frenzy, but maybe that was just another thing about you that drove him insane. 

He buried his face into the crook of your neck, his hands gripping your hips tightly like he was scared you would just run off. He could feel his fangs pricking his bottom lip, could feel every urge in his body to just get a taste.

“Eddie,” you hummed, your hands travelling down to rest over his.

“I need you not to scream for me, honey,” he grumbled against your neck, letting out deep breaths trying to soothe himself as the music blasted around you.

“Huh?”

“Just gotta stay quiet. M’gonna make us both feel good. Promise.”

You opened your mouth to reply, only for a soft squeak to leave your lips instead as you felt his fans sink into your neck. You leaned into his embrace as he wound his arms around your body, as he held you close, as your body sagged in pleasure as the feed washed over you.

“Atta girl, honey,” he murmured against your neck, licking the dribbles of blood that ran down your neck.

“Eddie. Please.”

“Need more?”

You nodded. 

He lifted his head, grinning as your blood ran down his chin. “My perfect lil angel, aren’t you, baby?”

i LOOOVE the search for piece, its such a comfort episode. honestly i used to hate the shows because of how they treated branch (and i get making him more goofy, not acknowledging his trauma very much, and making him true colors because of the tone of the shows don't really fit that) but i read somewhere about how he does act pretty arrogant at the beginning of tbgo but stops in trollstopia and therefore is treated nicer in trollstopia and that actually makes a lot of sense to me. idk, his characterization in trollstopia and the way people are generally more appreciative towards him in it feels so much easier to watch. if you havent already seen them, for a fun branch watch i recommend model behavior, fluffleberry quest, bunker tour, and bye bye bunker from tbgo. from trollstopia, i like branch out of water, life of pie, the bunker sitter, and ofc search for piece. again im sure youve already seen those and i prolly missed some but yea :) (ive also read that they wrote show branch's lines differently from how they would movie branch bc of their different voice actors)

I've been watching through the shows in their entirety the past week or so and I really enjoy them for the most part. The way that Branch is characterized in both shows is still really irritating to me sometimes even though I can appreciate the humor at the same time.

I honestly enjoyed the Beat Goes On more in general when it comes to Branch, I think, but I haven't finished TrollsTopia yet. I know that the lack of Branch in general and the dismissal of him at the beginning of Trollstopia bothers me a decent amount but the further I've gotten into it the more I've enjoyed Branch's parts.

Despite that, I adore Skylar Astin just as an actor and a musician so that's made the animated series version of Branch a lot more bearable to me considering I don't like how they treat him narratively overall.

There's a lot in the shows that I really hate when it comes to characterization and dynamics but I still really enjoy just watching them for fun. There are a few really good Branch moments that I adore but so far The Search for Piece is the only episode that I could really appreciate and enjoy in its completion. It doesn't have a punchline at the end that ruins the sincerity like Bye Bye Bunker did and it doesn't trivialize or belittle Branch like a lot of his episodes seem to. It's just really sweet and really nice and it struck a chord with me I doubt any other episode will really compare to.

I'll have to go back through the Beat Goes On to see which episodes you mentioned, though, I'm sure they were some of the ones I enjoyed the most!

Yes, I play d&d! Well, I played. Had the bad luck of finding a nasty GM (he was a friend's friend or the likes) so I ended up leaving after a year-ish and since then, I never found another group in my area (but that's bc I am awful at socializing and idk where to find a group). Well, I found one online but timezones didn't match...and then I stopped searching 😅

My tav Kylech is a rework of my first d&d character: tiefling illusion wizard, that used to be an actor and musician withing a travelling troupe of artists 😄

If I played again, I guess I'd play a wizard again bc they are pretty cool, imho... that or a barbarian: my second dnd character was an ancestral guardian barb it was fun not having to worry about spell slots and just smash things (also had lots of luck rolling the stats so at lv17 I already had str and con at 20)

HII SEBASTIAN this is such a great question oh my god thank u. okay not for all of them but in some cases yes. i'll start with the ones that DO matter though. shintaro looooves cola it's like his lifeblood, he has this scene where he drinks it with konoha and he says smthn along the lines of "praise be to soda" and konoha's like "erm what." but in this scene shintaro's introduced konoha to cola for the first time and it's basically a turning point in their friendship it's really sweet. it's actually a parallel to when haruka introduced shintaro to cola for the first time ever and that's when their friendship started and augh augh augh it makes me so crazy. momo (shintaro's sister) also really loves soda, except her favorite is red bean soup flavor. uhmm okay next seto LOVES animals and nature in general, this is probably due to his eye ability, since he can communicate with animals and nature is usually far away from cities and such so not a lot of people to accidentally read the mind of. before he had gained his eye ability he had a stray dog named hanako, who he thought understood him as he understood her. hanako is the one he got stuck into the daze with when bullies from his orphanage threw her into a river and he drowned attempting to save her. later on he has a pet hamster named hanao who he talks to and stuff. in general he'll just talk to random birds at times, he's often showed with them actually. he also met marry (someone super important to him) in a forest so that probably contributes to it as well! okay well idk if this counts but i say it does so it does uh the color red for ayano! red has huge significance in kagepro, as it's the color someone's eyes will turn into when their abilities are activated. the mekakushi dan was started by ayano when she put on a red scarf in front of her siblings and exclaimed that red is the color of a hero, and theyre just like secret agents. that's why ayano has her scarf on most of the time if not all of the time! i like to think ayano gained an affinity for the color in general bc she told shintaro he looked good in red (hence why he has his silly little jacket) and it brings a sense of comfort. a neat detail in mekakucity actors is in the last episode after she had been free from the daze, she's shown with an outfit without her scarf, symbolizing how she's not the tragic "heroine" of the story anymore, how she doesnt have to fight alone anymore. makes me emotional. kido really likes music, mainly bc her bio mom loved music as well, i cant remember quite right but she might have been a musician as well? but basically in her younger years before her mom passed away, she was raised to love music. it's quite significant to her design as well, on her hoodie she has like a little mp3 player button on the front. one of her favorite bands is radiohead LMFAO. OH takane and video games! due to her disability growing up she was often isolated since she was so tired all the time and didnt like having to deal with randomly falling asleep in front of her peers, who usually thought of her as weird and stand-offish. so as a way to cope she turned to video games and actually got quite good as she grew up. by highschool she's well known in the gamer world as "flashing dancer ene" and is 2nd in a national tournament for some zombie game i think. in manga route 2, videogames is the main way she bonds with haruka while they are in the hospital together. actually a video game she, haruka, and their teacher made brought the entire yuukei quartet together technically. shintaro and haruka also played online games together basically every night and thts how they got so close. so in my personal opinion those r probably the ones that hold the most significance for certain characters… i would talk abt fun ones but im hitting the word limit sorry SOB

Un popular opinion but I hate went twitter fans ask about tarlos to all cast mates and the shows accounts. I love tarlos but stop asking day and night for it, ask for Paul, marjan, he’ll even mateo for a change. I don’t mind it here on tumblr bc fans use tags for different things and don’t harass the cast of social media team. Max gao’s recent tweet is so right~so glad he blocks stans for this

So I am basically never on twitter so I don't know about any of this but yeah if people are pestering Brian and Julien and Natacha about nothing but Tarlos that is kinda rude. It must make them feel like nobody really cares about their characters. I don't really love the culture of fans interacting with the actors or musicians or creators at all, like some good comes from it and I get that but I don't love the culture it fosters.

It’s a shame that Gackts name is so attached to the Gakupo vb because I wouldn’t rly be that upset about a voice actor being changed, I wasn’t super into Gackt back then but everyone basically knew who he was (not sure the amount of overlap of fans who also liked gakupo or sought out their covers), I’ve seen from a couple fan blogs that his voice has changed over the years even before his sickness/surgeries

Like maybe they can use older recordings bc there was that hide/other visual kei band member they made a vocaloid of and he’s dead so yeah I wouldn’t think the real Gackt would need to show up at the studio to provide newer recordings

Kimutaku would be good, he’s known for being ina boy band tho not as active as a musician anymore, tho pricing aside I think we’re past the generation of like a vocal synth with a famous name attached, bc I don’t know if it rly helped in sales like pikos fame didn’t stop his vb from being discontinued

Gumi makes an easy comparison... From what I can find they didn't rerecord for her v6 (feel free to debunk me on this!), so couldn't they do the same for gakupo, from a technical standpoint? Or was it possible for gumi since she has a v4 and en bank and therefore more recordings for v6 to work off of, that gakupo doesn't have?

From a popularity standpoint it's also interesting how despite coming from two well-known singers, gakupo got more tied down/linked with his va as opposed to gumi. Neither of them are like fukase or sachiko or hide who are meant to sound as close as possible to their VAs, so I can't say I really mind gakupo (or gumi for that matter!) swapping VAs as long as they sound roughly the same & fulfill similar voice ranges.

I actually think JK is a good catch. He is a working actor and musician. Has been around crazy fans but doesn't use SM. but they aren't dating but it is going to be a thing from now on. Any guy Taylor is around is going to be front page news even if for 1 day.

I really think that Charlie should do a UK based project next, not necessarily a movie but maybe something for TV on one of the main channels like the BBC. It makes sense to establish himself as a UK actor so he can work there if he doesn't gain more popularity in the US. A lot of people still don't know he's even British. Obv he has the souvenir P2 but that was a small indie arthouse that most people that don't follow him won't even know about.

I totally 100% agree anon; british projects are so good whether bbc miniseries or uk based/produced film, and there are so many interesting roles that could fit him. He was getting British projects (the elephant man, the souvenir part ii), but idk how he’d get them now that he doesn’t have a British agent. It’s such a shame bc British actors advantage is they can keep a foot in the door of each. Plus it would be really interesting to see him in like a British working class period role or musician role or a lot of things that get made there. Also, so many people don’t even seem to know he’s British.

i watched the first 3 eps of daisy jones and the six. my thoughts are, i’ll probably watch the rest of the series bc i am always a sucker for the fake-documentary conceit and getting to see these characters several years removed from the events of the story, able to comment on their flaws and extrapolate about the mistakes they made etc etc. i know it’s based on a book so i’m tempted to go in search of that to just read but for now, here’s what i think of the show: 

the first three eps felt a little thin, especially since you spent the whole time just WAITING for them all to finally connect. despite daisy having less Plot™ to get through, i think riley keough is pretty great in this steve nicks-type character (not perfect, but definitely compelling) and the vibes are so strong that i enjoyed her scenes soooo much more than anything going on with the dunne brothers and their v obvious story beats. sam claflin as billy specifically is...fine? but the character feels v shallow and he seems miscast age-wise—i know they’re all having to play older in the interview scenes but he is not believable as a young-20 something musician, especially when surrounded by so many other baby faced actors. hopefully as the episodes progress his age starts to match the scenes better? the best thing he has going for him in this role is definitely his voice, which does sound good with riley’s and i’m eager to hear more of their songs together, but performance-wise...eh. he’s a little forgettable—case in point, i literally finished the 3rd episode like 15 minutes ago and i already had to use google to figure out his character’s name while typing this up. 

as for the other characters, eddie seems v two-dimensional. i hope he gets some added depth beyond just being the jealous would-be lead singer—i’m getting strong jason lee in almost famous vibes, except jason lee was actually funny in that role and contributed more that just barely hidden resentment. i will admit i’m onboard for the karen/graham will they/won’t they, so i’m intrigued to see where that goes, though when they’re separate from each other they’re a little less distinct. i DID enjoy karen’s reaction to daisy in the recording studio so i’m eager to see how that relationship develops. warren is, unfortunately, the after thought comic relief who doesn’t seem to contribute much other than sight gags about mustaches and 70s drug references. camila, unfortunately, bears the brunt of being intimately tied to the character i care least about in the show, but i do enjoy the spark they’ve managed to highlight in her—the scene of her standing up for herself after finding billy in the van was solid. she’s definitely playing a v specific trope—the first wife in the musician biopic, the ginnifer goodwin as vivian cash in walk the line—and seems to be somewhat inspired by linda mccartney (the photographer to paul’s singer/songwriter), so i’ll wait to see what they do with her. 

my favorite two characters though, by far, have to be simone and teddy, who both feel more real and lived in than any of the others. they have the benefit of also having storylines and interior lives removed from daisy or billy (had to google his name again, yikes)—the scene of simone coming home from that horrifying recording day to find daisy sitting on the floor and finding herself unable to explain just what happened, what made her skin crawl, how she’s feeling...damn that was good. also, her stunned reaction to the bold woman at the party being so direct—the scene was so charged and i’m hoping we get to see that nyc club owner return. and teddy as a music producer who’s had a bad run of failed records trying to get his colleagues to put faith in his gut instincts instead of saddling him with christmas albums of old timers is especially poignant. his physicality does a great job showing the physicality of the stress he feels professionally, especially when he finds himself starting to care for these two young singers, separately, and then, eventually, deciding to bring them together is really lovely—i’m hoping they take some time to explore WHY exactly he felt compelled to introduce them, what drove him to do that, but i won’t be surprised if it’s left unsaid. i’m hoping simone and teddy continue to shine and don’t get sidelined now that daisy and sam claflin have finally met, but we’ll definitely have to wait and see.
