IRSHALGAD trek from top to NEDHE (needle’s eye / hole in the mountain).
16/06/2019: The entire Irshalgad trek ← is well illustrated already. We had done in 2018 from base village till the top of Irshalgad. Because of clouds and rains then, we could not reach the needle’s eye / nedhe / hole in the mountain. So this time in 2019, we decided to do it before the rains set in well. The only difference this time was that Karjat was base railway station instead of Panvel. The photos have been captioned which can be read by clicking on them while surfing this post using a computer / laptop. They are not visible when using a mobile. GPS trail ← from base village Nanivali / Number wadi to Irshalgad top is here.
GPS trail from Irshalgad top to nedhe ← is here.
The cost of shared vehicle from Karjat to Nanivali or Number wadi (base village of Irshalgad) is 600/- pick up, drop & return for a full Omni van taxi and from Panvel to  Nanivali or Number wadi was 1200/- in year 2018 with pick up, drop & return. Last time we were 16 friends. This time we were 4. Expenses: 345/- per head TTMM.

#Irshalgad is a fortress located between #Matheran and #Panvel in #Maharashtra, India. It is a sister fort to #Prabalgad. The area of the fort is not large but there are several water cisterns cut from the rock. The nearest village is #Irshalwadi. Irshalgad is 6.5 km out and back trek located near Chauk railway station. Irshalgad pinnacle is an easy to moderate difficulty which takes 2 hour to ascend and 1.5 hour to descend. The road head, if travelling by your own vehicle is Nanivali village near Chowk town. Chowk town lies on NH4 that connects Panvel with Karjat. Chowk also has a train station (Station code CHOK) . (Pune - Bhusaval express) stops at Chowk train station. From Chowk, Nanivali village (the starting point of this trek) is a comfortable 2.3 kilometres walk. From Nanivali village you follow a wide well defined path till Irshalwadi village. The path climbs a steep ridge and then tapers to an easy ascend till Irshalwadi. From Irshalwadi village head towards a temple dedicated to a local deity and access the Irshalgad plateau via a west-east axis. IRSHALGAD - Most windiest pinnacle
1-day Sunday TTMM trek to Irshalgad near Panvel on 22nd July 2018, was completed successfully by 16 of us.
Tumblr media
CAUTION: This is a medium grade trek. You must use correct trekking gear and trekking shoes. The terrain is quite slippery in the mountains. The base of the pinnacle can be reached. Do not attempt to climb the pinnacle. The pinnacle requires technical expertise of professional climbers, equipment & ropes.
This is not a fort, even if it is called a 'gad' in Marathi. It is basically a mountain with a pinnacle. There are no fortifications or water cisterns on this mountain.
The blog post is divided as follows:
1) How to go? (with GPS route on dynamic map).
2) Time frame.
3) Experience in photos.
4) Expenses.
1) HOW TO GO?
Base railway station: Panvel. Base village: Nanivali village, via Irshalwadi.
Check the dynamic Google map link with GPS track. The ascent is around 3.77 km & the descent being the same, the total distance that we actually trekked as around 8 km.
We 16 friends had hired 2 cabs (Maruti Omni van) from Panvel railway station to Nanivali village & back.
We did not climb the pinnacle. We trekked till the top of Irshalgad.
Tumblr media
GPS trail ← & blog post from Irshalgad top to nedhe ← is here.

IRSHALWADI: The needle’s eye or the ‘Nedhe’ in Marathi is the hole in the solid rock wall of the mountain, caused by the incessant blowing winds!

The small temple of the deity of the mountains is crossed and blessings received for uneventful passage.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Outline of Irshalgad shrouded in clouds is seen from Irshalwadi ahead.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A narrow path connects the way towards the pinnacle from the base of the pinnacle. I mentally hugged it before crossing it.
Tumblr media
The pinnacle of Irshalgad is shrouded in mystery & clouds. It can only be climbed by professional climbers with expertise, climbing gear & ropes.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Bliss in Paradise - it isn’t a place. Its a feeling!
Tumblr media
We fell in love with this island and wished to visit it some day soon...

4) EXPENSES:
60/- rickshaw from home to station & back.
40/- return train ticket.

Architects, interior designers, rendering artists, landscape architects, engineers, photographers and real estate developers are invited to submit their firm for the inaugural A+Firm Awards, celebrating the talented teams behind the world’s best architecture. Register today.
India’s architecture has evolved over millennia. Renowned worldwide for hundreds of ancient temples and shrines, including the Taj Mahal, India also boasts impressive modern works. From Charles Correa’s Gandhi Smarak Sangrahalaya to Le Corbusier’s Chandigarh City, India holds a history of multiculturalist design and monumental projects. But the country is also home to incredible residential designs, private projects that are made with intimate scales around everyday life.
Exploring India’s residential designs, the following collection looks at rural retreats across the country. Blending vernacular and modern techniques and styles, these projects showcase diverse spatial and formal approaches. Emerging from India’s landscape while integrating with it, these novel projects embrace their surroundings. Oriented to views, waterways and prevailing winds, these homes showcase some of the best residential design in India.
