RAINBOW BY NAME, RAINBOW BY LIFE :)
“You will always be our little girl.”—those are my parents’ words as I celebrate my 18th birthday last year. Time flies so fast, indeed. I did not even noticed that it was already eighteen years after I took my first gaze to the world and that my little crying voice was heard within the hospital. It seems just a blink of an eye that their little girl turned out to be a lady now.
Irish Kristine was the name given to me by my parents. They said, my first name was adapted after the Holy Bible which means rainbow. I am the middle child of our family. I had an older brother named Robert Glenn and a bubbly little sister named Jan Pauline. I could say that even though we do not have the perfect brother-sisters relationship, we never let anything break our bond. And I was able to tell that I grew up very blessed for I have my whole family together ever since I was born. They have been providing me with so much love and caress at all times in my life.
I started studying at the age of three. I entered pre-elementary in Jesus is Lord Christian School here in Balanga City. That time, I can describe myself as a shy and quiet type of student. I would rather stay in my desk than to play with my classmates and I will not speak in times of discussions unless my teacher told me to do so. Also, pre elementary became so hard for me because for every periodical examination week, I would be having a high fever. But despite all of those hindrances, I graduated valedictorian.
I continued my studies in the same school as I enter elementary. In this point, I started to let go of my antisocial attitude. I already gained more friends than the usual two or three. Maybe then I realized that having more acquaintances made life lighter and happier. I got time to chit and chat along with studying that made those years unforgettable. In this period also, my favorite grandfather died making my elementary days really worth remembering. But I am very thankful that I made it again for the second time that I would be delivering the valedictory address in our batch.
At first, I thought that I improved too much after I let myself achieve more social relations. But entering higher education really changed me a lot. From a small private school, I go into the portal of a huge and recognized public national high school. There is truly a big difference! From the common fourteen classmates whom I am used to have, I got forty just then. More classmates…more dealing…more competitors…more friends…more hardships but all in all, it’s more fun! In high school, I was able to belong to the special science curriculum. There, I was pushed to study harder in order to contend with my classmates which are mostly honor students from different schools. And after those tough but enjoyable four years in high school, I finished this stage with flying colors.
In the last phase of my education, I took up Bachelor of Science in Electronics Engineering in Bataan Peninsula State University and currently in my second year. Before, I thought that college is an incredibly difficult matter as described by my parents-- where there are no lectures on board; there are surprise exams before having the discussion and more harsh things for a typical student. Yes, there were those instances but as I am going through this stage in my life, I found out that they were just scaring me, because in college, I was able to widen my circle of friends and enhanced my skills and knowledge. At the same time, I was able to recognize myself more and was able to prioritize and value things. I can say that I had made a big transformation from a shy quiet type of child I used to be. Having this point of view, I am hoping that someday, I would be able to make all my dreams possible and that an Irish, after all her struggles, really deserved to have a life colorful and meaningful as a rainbow. I will prove that a rainbow by name can be a rainbow by life!
