The beauty of dumping a bunch of songs into a “to be used” folder is that you can forget what’s in there until you open it up and give it an appraisal. “What’s in here that captured my attention?” The band ‘Sprints’ from Dublin, Ireland was sitting in there with ‘How Does The Story Go?” That build up that hits around the 1:36 mark greeted me cathartically. Screaming, “I’m not fine!” seems a fitting theme for many of the lives of folk I know. Why lie and adorn yourself with a pleasant mask when the inevitable cannot be denied? Who has time for polite guises and the demands of etiquette when existence decides to treat you poorly? Why not just let yourself be raw and honest and open? We’re all in the same condition and we’re all headed for the same end. Recognize your own fragility and dependencies and learn to recognize the same in those around you. They are you and you are them and nobody gets out alive. “What dreams may come”, sure but first you gotta live. So live. Imperfectly and flawed but vibrantly and without apology. (Or don’t. You do you. I’m just riffing here on a feeling.)
