“Are we too far apart? Two worlds among the stars? You’re gonna take a piece of my heart if you leave... So it’s two separate ways, Or am I too late to say, I wanna fight for what we got? ‘Cause I believe in family...in family...”
~“Family” by TobyMac
x~x~x~x
I gotta say, I didn’t think I’d become so attached to Carewyn’s youngest cousin Tristan when I decided to write for him in that one drabble I did, but...yeah, here he ended up as a young adult with Carewyn in my sketchbook! Go figure! XD
But yeah, this is Tristan Cromwell, age 18, and dressed to the Goth Victorian nines. Yes, that is his aesthetic -- he would’ve 150% been that Tim Burton-obsessed weirdo kid, if he’d been raised in the Muggle World. I see this being him reaching out to his now-nearly-30-year-old cousin Carewyn at the Ministry of Magic, specifically talking at that one fountain in the center Atrium, which has gone through some changes since its pre-Wizarding-War days and especially since the Wizarding War itself. As you can see, Tristan’s grown up a lot since he appears in that drabble -- a bit personality-wise, yes, but definitely physically. Tristan ends up being the tallest and lankiest of all the Cromwells at 5′11″, making him both an inch taller than his father and the same height as his deceased grandfather, Charles. It also means he towers over Carewyn, the smallest Cromwell at 5′3″.
Despite his and Carewyn’s differences, though, Tristan as a young adult really becomes all the more motivated to fix the rift in his broken family. (I’m not joking, while working on this, I must have played Scott Shattuck’s cover of Waiting on a Miracle a good twenty times, imagining it as a theme for adult!Tristan.) As Blaise’s only son and heir, he’s presumed to be the one who’ll have to take on the mantle of leadership for the Clan, even while the youngest of the Cromwell cousins, so Tristan feels an obligation to do what his father has been unable to and bring Carewyn, Jacob, and Lane back into the fold. One lesson Tristan does internalize that Blaise never does, however, is that love is about sacrifice, not just possessive control...a lesson bolstered by his interactions with his favorite "bastard cousin,” Carewyn. I could even see Tristan seeking out Carewyn’s help with getting a position at the Ministry as an adult, since his father’s influence is far less than Charles’s was back in the day and Tristan’s lack of real-world experience, connections, and social skills hampers him in his job search.
“I’m a Cromwell! I’m not supposed to have to struggle to get the respect owed me.”
Fortunately for however proud and entitled Tristan is thanks to Blaise’s toxic influence, he also is painfully aware of his duty to his family and is determined to be the best Head he can be...even if it required him taking a desk job he’d be miserable at.
“Wouldn’t I, what, prefer to do something else? Obviously. I’ve been locked up inside nearly my whole life -- you don’t think I don’t wish every day I could just pack my bags and go running off into the sunset on some whirlwind adventure, the way your brother does? Hell, reckon even your precious Quidditch player’s able to do that sometimes, with how much travel he must get up to...
“...But...I can’t. Not when it’d break Father’s heart. Not when the whole Clan needs leadership, and just about all of them presume it has to be me. It’s not like it could be anyone else, really. Elmer’s not the leadership sort, and Arsen and Kain...they can’t even score a promotion with the Hitwizards, let alone take charge of the Clan. And Heather, Dahlia, and Iris, feh -- the Manor would probably get burned to the ground in a week if they called the shots.
“I was raised to do this, by my father. I have to do this, the way he has -- but I can’t do it his way. Not just because the Cromwell name’s been tarnished and Father can’t help me get ahead the way Grandfather did for him, but because...well...”
“...You’re not your father.”
“...Yes. And...if anything is going to get better, with our family...if I’m ever going to make things right...I can’t be like him, either. No matter how much I love him and no matter how much I want to make him proud...if I’m going to make that dream come true, I have to do things my way.
“So just...put in a good word for me, will you? Maybe Father’s word doesn’t have weight here at the Ministry, but yours does. You’re the Ministry’s Star Prosecutor, after all. Even if I do have to be stuck indoors all day, well, at least it’ll be a different ‘indoors.’ And I know Father will be pleased, if I ended up in your Department. Sure he’ll see it as the perfect excuse to try to lure you back home...”
Tristan’s lips were curled up in an amused, mischievous smirk, when he said this: one that made him more closely resemble that thirteen-year-old boy Carewyn had seen back at the Cromwell Manor during the War.
As one can expect, Carewyn didn’t flaunt her influence around to get Tristan a job the way he wanted...but, feeling some compassion for her cousin, she did line up several promising Ministry internship opportunities for him -- one with the Department of International Magical Cooperation, one in the Department of Magical Games and Sports’s office closer to Quidditch League Headquarters, one at St. Mungo’s sponsored by the Accidental Magical Reversal Squad, and even three for the Department of the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures. None of those opportunities, however, were in Wizarding Law.
Sorry, Tristan -- but I think you’ve had more than enough of being stuck indoors.
After much deliberation, Tristan selected one of the internships for the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures, specifically the one that required him to work with the Dragon Research and Restraint Bureau, exploring more humane methods of transport for the creatures across Muggle-occupied areas. Tristan’s extensive knowledge of magical creature anatomy ended up being very helpful in this task -- though the best part of the experience, by far, ended up being when he was able to finally see a real-life Welsh Green for the first time. After only ever knowing such creatures as models and drawings in books, Tristan almost couldn’t breathe when he was able to actually reach out and touch one, with his own hands.
Blaise would probably be more than a little disconcerted about his son ending up so close to such a dangerous creature -- but in that moment, Tristan couldn’t keep the huge grin off his face as he ran a hand gently along the dragon’s comb, rubbing his wet eyes on his sleeve. He’d never been so happy in all his life.

💜 starshine pt. V 💜
Rhysand x Reader
part I part II part III part IV part V part VI
summary: some long overdue introductions are made.
notes: god, I can't express how fucking happy the love you show for this makes me. I'm honestly pinching myself every time I read all your messages and comments, and I'm not even sure I'm actually processing them all because it's just so completely bonkers. anyway. I'm currently planning on how to proceed with this, and you can probably expect at least a few more chapters *winks and wiggles brows*. I realised we need a few more things before this feels complete. so, here's the next part. I will not be blamed for swooning or emotional damage or anything else.
______________________________________________________________
Exhaling softly, I buried my nose in my pillow, blinking and scrunching my brows. I could feel sunlight on my face and a soft breeze brushing over my skin that smelled like sweet blooming trees and cool mornings, intertwining with another scent that surrounded me, filling my lungs, familiar and warm, causing something to flutter against my ribs.
Slowly cracking open an eye, I squinted into the sunlight filtering through high glass doors. They were opened wide, allowing the morning air to filter through the big room, and as I blinked against the sleep in my eyes and my vision became clearer, my breath hitched a little at the sight of the mountain palace in the golden morning sun.
Hiding my big yawn in my pillow, I turned my head, craning my neck. But the bed behind me was empty.
Something skipped a little in my chest, and I slowly sat up, scrunching my brows against the light and blowing a strand of hair out of my face that had fallen from my braid. Rubbing my eyes, I slid off the mattress, and my gaze flickered towards the door leading into the hall, but then I caught a glimpse at something in the big mirror, and when I turned around, I saw the person out on the balcony.
My heart moved gently in my chest, and breathing out softly, I slowly started to make my way outside.
The sun was warm, just like the stone under my bare feet as I squinted into the light, my breath hitching a little when I caught a glimpse at Velaris down in the vale, the Sidra glittering. Then my gaze turned back towards the male sitting on the ground on the terrace, right in front of a few steps leading down to another, arms resting on his knees, eyes closed as his brows crunched a little against the bright sun. His dark hair was tousled from sleep and the soft breeze, the muscles in his back shifting when he laced his fingers together, and something warm spread through my chest.
Quietly padding closer, I let myself plop down next to him on the stones heated up to by the sun, so close that our shoulders and elbows were touching when I pulled up my bare legs and wrapped my arms around my knees. Drawing up my shoulders a little, I exhaled slowly, blinking into the sun as my gaze moved over the palace stretched over the side of the mountain, the balconies and terraces, huge windows open to let in the breeze, and the city far below. Then I turned my head.
Rhys' eyes were still closed, but the crease between his brows softened as I watched. The warmth of his skin was seeping through the thin cotton of my shirt, and his scent rose into my nose with every breath.
Feeling something gently thrum against my ribs, I carefully shifted a little closer, my shoulder pressing more into his biceps. Then I turned my head back ahead, breathing in the morning air and the smell of flowers as the light wind brushed through the strands fallen from my braid and the sun warmed my skin. My nose crinkled a little as I squinted into the light, something fluttering gently against my ribs.
From the corner of my eye, I saw Rhys blink, brows drawing together as he opened his eyes, his gaze focusing on the city below. His iris looked lighter in the sun, almost like lavender.
A muscle in his jaw shifted, then he mumbled softly: “I don't know whether I deserve this.”
The flutter in my chest turned into a soft twinge, and I felt my brows furrow gently as I looked over at him.
“Deserve what?”
Rhys stared at the palace, the city in the vale.
“All of this. The people down there. I'm not sure I deserve them.” His voice was quiet and raw when he added softly: “Not after all I did.”
The twinge in my chest sharpened, and I swallowed a little.
“Rhys?”
His head turned like my soft call of his name ripped him out of dark thoughts, and I stared at him, feeling something tighten under my ribs when I whispered: “You can't save everyone.”
Rhys stilled, and I offered him a careful, crooked smile. “I know.” I raised one shoulder in a soft shrug. “I tried.”
The male stared at me, the muscles in his cheeks shifting as he swallowed and his eyes darted over my face. I could see the pain buried deep within, felt the emotions whirling under his skin that caused my chest to ache.
“It's the best we can do.” My brows furrowed gently, something churning softly under my ribs when I whispered softly: “Try.” My gaze flickered over his face. “And you did.”
Something rose in my chest, and I pressed my shoulder into his, staring at him. “All you did was to keep them safe. Keep your family safe, your home.” I swallowed softly and mumbled: “You gave everything to protect them.”
Rhys blinked, and something within him seemed to crack when he whispered hoarsely: “What if I gave so much, I ended up broken?”
I stared at him, feeling something tug and tighten in my chest. Then I shrugged just a little, smiling softly.
“Everyone is a little broken. Some maybe more than others, but – it's hard not to. In this world, how can we be anything but?”
Rhys' lips parted, his violet eyes shimmering in the sunlight as they found mine.
“Maybe we're broken.” I felt my brows crunch softly. “But that's not what matters.” I returned his gaze, steady, calm, feeling my heart thrum against my ribs.
“What matters is what we do with the pieces. Whether we put ourselves back together or push the broken pieces away and stay broken.” I smiled, soft and crooked. “I know that mending yourself back together is scary. Because – it probably won't end up looking like before. Some pieces are missing, others are broken beyond repair.” My eyes flickered over the male in front of me, his brows crunched up like he was fighting to keep himself together, iris shimmering as his gaze darted over my face.
“But what you build from the rest is still complete.” I felt my throat tighten a little and smiled softly when I whispered: “And it can still be beautiful.”
The muscles in Rhys' jaw shifted as he swallowed harshly, his eyes a little watery as they searched mine, emotion raging deep within them.
Pressing my shoulder into his, I watched him steadily.
“You're allowed to grieve what you've lost along the way.” I suppressed the urge to swallow again, staring at him firmly as something tightened harshly in my chest. “Just never think that because you've been broken - you can't be whole again.”
Rhys' nostrils flared, and he closed his eyes tightly. My heart tilted, and quickly, before I could stop myself, I stretched.
A light shudder seemed to travel through Rhys' body when I pressed my forehead against his.
“You gave everything for them,”, I whispered, squeezing my eyes shut. “Nothing about that makes you less of a male.” Something skipped and tumbled in my chest, and I smiled crookedly and mumbled softly: “If anything, it makes you even more worthy of their love.”
This time, the tremble that went through Rhys' limbs was stronger. His breath hitting my skin quivered just a little, then he dropped his head forward to gently press back. His nose brushed against mine, and suddenly, my whole body tightened in a soft, sharp inhale.
My breath hitched and stilled, and Rhys tilted his head a little to repeat the soft nudge. I could feel his fingers brushing over my knuckles as the side of his thigh pressed against mine, radiating warmth through the soft material of his pants while his hair tickled my forehead and his breath danced over my skin as he slowly, gently traced his nose over mine.
Swallowing, I pulled my head back a little, feeling my heart race in my chest and something tightening and pulsing under my ribs. Then I opened my eyes, and my breath stumbled.
Rhys' iris twinkled like galaxies, hues of silver and lavender swirling in deep violet, warm and bright as his gaze pierced into mine. The breeze brushed through his tousled dark hair, blowing wisps of hair that had fallen from my braid into my face, and Rhys raised his hand, carefully brushing them away. His thumb followed the line of my cheekbone, sending tingling shivers through my body, and Rhys' throat worked like he was trying not to swallow as his eyes dragged over my face.
The rise and swell in my chest grew unbearable, and I held my breath and blinked, pulling back and smiling softly and crookedly, even though my heart was pounding against my ribs.
I prayed Rhys didn't feel it, couldn't hear the strange flutter in my breath when I turned my eyes back ahead, over the palace dipped in golden light as the sun slowly crept higher up in the sky.
I could feel Rhys' gaze on my face for another second, steady, piercing and calm. Then he turned his head back ahead. His warm shoulder pressed into mine, and I felt him exhale slowly, his skin glowing in the sun as he closed his eyes again, brows scrunching a little.
Without being able to stop myself, I let my gaze flicker towards him and over his profile; his straight nose, high cheekbones, the strand of ink black hair curved over his forehead, the rest messy and tousled -
One corner of Rhys' lips turned upwards until the ghost of a crease formed in his cheek.
“Seeing something you like?”
My heart tipped over at the sound of his deep, rich voice, and trying to ignore the small hitch in my breath, I huffed and glared at him. Rhys' smile just widened.
“You know, I'm sure none of the others would complain if you didn't, but are you going to put on pants before we go down into the city?” His eyes were still closed, lips curved upwards, but his voice sounded a little hoarse when he mumbled softly: “Or are you planning on torturing me a little more?”
My breath hitched as my gaze darted towards him, my lips parting, and Rhys opened his eyes, his iris twinkling brightly as he squinted a little against the sun, looking down at me. The breeze ruffled his hair, and his muscles moved under his sunkissed skin as he shifted a little on the spot, his bare shoulder pressing into mine. He looked dark and warm and – beautiful.
Heartwrenchingly, achingly, breathtakingly beautiful. All of him, his eyes and his smile and the curve of his jaw, the way his muscles worked his under lean sides and powerful shoulders - and everything beneath. His heart, his doubts, his dreams. And even though I had seen him since that first day, had seen all of it and more -
My heart shuddered as I felt the rise and fall under my ribs, the tingles running over my spine and how my breath hitched with every soft inhale. Felt the harsh thrum of my heart, and suddenly, something tipped over in my chest as my heart shuddered again, and my lips parted.
Rhys' brows scrunched lightly. “Starshine?”
“Hm?” My voice sounded soft, breathy as I stared at him, something fluttering wildly against my ribs.
“Are you alright?” One corner of Rhys' lips quirked, his gaze flickering over my face looking torn between amusement and concern, and I blinked and nodded quickly, turning my gaze back ahead as my heart thumped in my chest.
Something rushed through my body as I swallowed gently and felt the flutter under my ribs become more violent.
Making my way through the halls of The House of Wind, I tied the sleeves of my billowing tunic that I had tucked into my leather pants which fit snugly around my legs.
I had figured they were a lot more practical for another flight than a dress.
My heart was pounding steadily against my ribs as I checked if my braid was tied off properly and frowned softly when I realized that there were little wildflowers stuck within. How had they ended up in th-
The doors opened towards a terrace, and when I raised my head, my breath hitched.
Rhys was standing in front of the carved stone balustrade, wings folded comfortably against his back, so big they almost touched the ground. He was squinting into the sunlight, looking completely relaxed, the breeze brushing through his hair.
Like he'd sensed me, he turned his head, and my breath hitched a little when his eyes met mine, deep and vibrant and slowly beginning to twinkle.
Something skipped and tumbled in my chest, and not yet ready to confront the strange sensation of a realisation that had bloomed just a little earlier, I pushed it away and jumped down the few steps, crunching my nose as I smiled sheepishly.
“This alright?”
Rhys' lips curved. “Is what alright?”
I shrugged, turning in a circle and waving a hand over my body exaggeratedly, cracking a grin. “The clothes. You know, for – whatever you have planned. Meeting your friends.” My heart skipped a little nervously as I squinted up at him, coming to a halt in front of him.
Slowly, a crease formed in Rhys' cheek, becoming deeper and deeper the more his smile grew. His eyes were sparkling when he stared down at me, his deep voice vibrating over my skin when he mumbled: “You could turn up in a duvet cover and be beautiful.”
I somehow kept myself from holding my breath even as my heart suddenly toppled, and instead managed to deadpan.
“Alright, so what I'm getting from that statement is that this isn't the right thing to wear –“
Rhys laughed, his eyes crinkling with his wide smile when he stepped forward and grinned down at me.
“You know that is not what I meant.” His iris was bright as his gaze flickered over my face. Then he blinked, his voice softer and steady when he said quietly: “Don't worry. You look beautiful. You always do.”
Barely suppressing the urge to swallow as my throat suddenly tightened, I stared up at him.
"And they'll love you." Rhys' violet eyes pierced mine, something rough in his voice when he mumbled: "They'd be idiots not to."
My heart dipped and swerved, and I inhaled softly and sharply before nodding lightly, feeling my lips quirk in a small, cheeky smile.
“Are you sure we can't just winnow or –“
Rolling his eyes with a grin, Rhys leaned down, and my breath got stuck in my throat with a soft sound when his arm slid around my back.
“Hold on,”, he mumbled, his breath brushing over the side of my neck, and I quickly wrapped my arm over his shoulder.
His hand slipped under my knees, then Rhys lifted me into his arms as he straightened again.
My heart skipped high into my throat when he hoisted me up a little, adjusting his grip until my body was curled into his chest. His scent filled my lungs as he squeezed me gently and looked at me, his eyes sparkling.
“Ready?”
I felt a brush of air when his wings opened, stretching wide, and quickly, I slid my arms around his shoulders, burying my face in the crook of his neck. Squeezing my eyes shut tightly, I nodded, and with one mighty beat, Rhys launched into the sky.
I shrieked softly, feeling Rhys' body vibrate with his low chuckle, then we dropped into a steep dive, and I clung to his shoulders, squealing loudly.
~
I didn't know how long we were in the air. Rhys'´ wings were stretched wide and steady, carrying us lower and lower, their thin membranes in parts almost see through against the sunlight. Sometimes, he dropped a little just to hear me squeak, laughter vibrating through his chest every time he rightened us smoothly and turned into an elegant curve. I peaked over his shoulder once, only to feel my stomach turn over at the sight of the city so far below, I quickly squeezed my eyes shut again and buried my face back in the crook his neck.
Finally, Rhys caught himself out of a gentle descent, his wings beating a few times until he landed on his feet smoothly.
Slowly loosening my tight grip, I cracked open an eye, feeling a relieved breath leave me when I saw the cobblestone only a few feet beneath me.
Lifting my head, I felt my heart rise softly as I looked up the façade of the townhouse made from sandstone we'd landed in front. The sun just caught the stained glass window over the door, the smell of the rose bushes planted in the small front yard soft and sweet. The roof with a huge round window in the attic glittered in the sunlight, and the windows on the second and third floor were opened wide to let in the gentle breeze.
Rhys leaned down, letting me slide out of his arms as he placed me back on my feet. I raised my head when he straightened, and my heart lurched and tipped over when I realised we were standing chest to chest.
Rhys stilled a bit, his head dipped to look down at me, dark hair dishevelled from the flight and still looking perfectly tousled. Something closed around my throat when his eyes flickered over my face, warm and twinkling a little, and I couldn't keep myself from swallowing.
Behind me, the front door was opened, followed by a deep rumbunctious laugh, and when I quickly looked over my shoulder, my heart skipped high into my throat as the source of the sound stepped into the sunlight, squinting and grinning boisterously.
The Lord of Bloodshed looked exactly like I had imagined based on the stories Rhys had told me about him. Tall; so tall he almost had to dip his head to the side to walk through the high door, wide shoulders and chest, body all corded muscle. Half of his dark hair was gathered in a bun at the back of his head, a few strands falling into his face as he walked down the steps, huge Illyrian wings tucked against his back as his grin made his eyes crinkle and caused the scar on the side of his face to shift.
He made it a few feet before noticing Rhys and me. He slowed before stilling on the spot, his grin disappearing a little as warm hazel eyes met mine.
Carefully, I smiled, soft and crooked. Behind me, I felt Rhys shift, straightening.
Another figure appeared from the hall that was dipped in shadow, though the darkness seemed to thicken a little as it shifted away from the tall male stepping into the sunshine. It didn't leave him fully, ghosting around his shoulders and the wings folded smoothly against his back, like soft whisps of darkness that followed the shadowsinger as he moved down the steps, amber eyes piercing mine.
Where the General's face was rough and more rugged, the face of the Spymaster was all sharp lines and beauty dark like death, but still, there was something gentle buried underneath as his gaze flickered over me.
“Cauldron's sake, can't you two wait?!”
The bright, warm voice drew my eyes away from the shadowsinger's, and a female appeared in the door, her scowl melting into softly widening eyes.
“Oh,”, she breathed, and I felt my lips rise into a smile without being able to help it.
The Morrigan, as Rhys sometimes called her like it was a title more than just a name, looked like sunshine. Her flowing hair really was the color of honey, her eyes a gentle warm brown, soft freckles on her nose and something like awe in her gaze.
Her lips, painted deep red, parted, but before she could say something, the Lord of Bloodshed moved. There was something strange in his eyes, something in his drawn brows as he walked towards me with big strides, and I could feel Rhys tense behind me. But before he could even open his mouth, the huge Illyrian warrior reached me.
Strong arms wrapped around my waist, and the Lord of Bloodshed lifted me off my feet in a warm, crushing hug.
My breath hitched, and my lips parted softly when a wave of emotions crashed over me. Thankfulness and relief and pain soothed, mixed with warm vibrating affection, so strong and jumbled, a little tightness built in my throat.
He felt different than Rhys; rougher, louder and warm and full of unbridled life, and –
Something surged in my chest, and I blinked hastily against the way my eyes welled. Because the infamous Lord of Bloodshed felt kind. Kind and gentle, and good.
“Hi?”, I whispered a little hesitantly, and a soft chuckle rumbled through the huge Illyrian.
“Hi.” I heard the grin in his deep voice, warm and rumbling as he squeezed me tightly before shaking me a little and causing a soft giggle to break from my throat. Then he slowly placed me back on the ground, holding me tightly for another second before straightening up, and when I raised my head, he was beginning to smile down at me, wide and unrestrained.
Movement at the corner of my eye made me tip down my head, and something shifted softly in my chest when Morrigan sent me a smile. It was bright and beaming, but her eyes were a little watery, and she moved without hesitation, wrapping me up in a hug so tight, I held my breath.
“Hello,”, she mumbled, her warm voice a little wobbly, and my heart tightened gently as I carefully wrapped my arms around her and squeezed back. She too felt gentle and good, but vibrant, like an orchestra rising into a striking finale.
Mor kept me in a ribcrushing hug for another second before pulling back, sniffling a little as she beamed at me, and I slowly grinned back.
“So that's her.”
The voice, so deep and low, sent a light tingle down my spine, and when my gaze moved, it met the shadowsinger's, his golden eyes piercing mine.
The Lord of Bloodshed crossed his arms in front of his chest, his eyes sparkling as he sent his High Lord a shit-eating grin. “Now I get why you kept her from us.”
Rhys scowled as the tall Illyrian sent me a wink, but a few feet away, the lips of the shadowsinger curved at the corners.
“Honestly.” Mor rolled her eyes, but she looked like she was suppressing a smile. I threw Rhys a look.
You know, he's right, I get it too. I sent him a wide, cheeky grin and raised my brows. Why you thought they'd steal me away? I mean; I'd let them -
Something shifted in Rhys' eyes; a growl rumbled from his chest as he moved forward, his chest pressing into my back, and my heart skipped and my breath hitched.
Mor furrowed her brows, but her lips twitched. “Are you alright?”
Rhys huffed as he stared down at me, but it almost looked like he was pouting, so much so, something tipped over in my chest, and I started to beam up at him, wide and cheeky.
Something in Rhys' glare shifted, became soft and bright. Then he blinked, and my heart tumbled gently against my ribs when he tore his eyes away from mine and grumbled under his breath: “I just remembered why I have been putting this off for so long.”
Both Illyrians rolled their eyes in unison, the General flipping him off easily while the Spymaster's lips twitched, and Rhys returned the foul gesture before looking down at me, his eyes twinkling even though he gave a dramatic, long-suffering sigh as he raised his brows.
“Starshine, meet my irritating and nosy family. These are Mor, Cassian and Azriel.”
Mor beamed at me, Azriel dipped his chin lightly, and Cassian bowed his head with a cheeky wink. I slowly grinned back, feeling something hop against my ribs. Then I blinked and blurted: “It's really good to finally meet you, but I'm starving -”
Cassian snorted and started to laugh, his head tipping back as his shoulders shook, and Azriel pushed past him, his lips curving when he blinked into the sun, mumbling: “Looks to me like she's going to fit in just fine.”
Blinking into the sun, I dropped my head when something cool brushed over my shoulder, and Azriel sat down next to me and handed me something.
My heart skipped and my lips parted in surprise at the sight of the waffle wrapped in a paper napkin, sprinkled with powered sugar. There was a café in the alley to our right that sold them, and even though earlier at breakfast, Mor had ordered half the menu, the smell whafting from it when we'd passed it a little while ago had made me look at the window wistfully.
“Thank you.” I looked up at the shadowsinger, still a little wide-eyed and surprised, and there was a soft chuckle from next to me that made my heart skip.
“Bribery.”
“Hey, shut up.” I felt my lips curve into a bright smile without being able to help it, quickly kicking Rhys' shin. He was sitting on my other side and squinted against the sun, cheek creasing. He looked completely relaxed, his skin glowing in the warm light as he lounged on the bench, his arm draped over the backrest behind me. “You're just jealous that he didn't bring you one.”
“Yes, as his High Lord, that does make me wonder.” Rhys narrowed his eyes in mock thought, and Azriel huffed, his lips quirking as he blinked into the sun.
Breathing in the sweet smell of flowers, I plucked off a corner of the still warm waffle, the sweet dough melting on my tongue as I blinked into the sunlight. Something warm was pulsing in my chest as I let my gaze wander over the little square surrounded by big, sandstone buildings.
Mor was crouched a bit away on the cobblestone, talking to a female painting the ground with a beautiful sunset sky. Cassian was over at the fountain that wasn't carrying any water; instead, flowers were growing within, spilling over the edges, violets and lavenders and pinks mixing together with small white blossoms. He was playing with some children, who had seen the mighty warrior and had shied away until he had grinned widely at them. Now, they were trying to wrestle him down, his dramatic groans echoing through the square.
Next to me, Azriel leaned back, his wings folded comfortably behind him as his golden eyes moved over the square, watchful but relaxed. The blooming trees whispered in the soft breeze, petals chasing over the cobblestone, and I exhaled softly and felt something rise in my chest, fluttering and violent.
Gentle claws scraped over my mind's walls, and my heart skipped softly.
“You okay?”
Rhys' voice rumbled through my head, warm and relaxed, and my breath hitched as my eyes flickered over his friends, his family that had taken so easily to me, it felt like I had been with them since the beginning.
Blinking, I tipped my head back a little, looking up into the clear blue sky where even in daylight, the pale shape of the moon was visible, and that swelling feeling under my ribs grew.
It's beautiful, I whispered in my mind, turning my head, and my eyes met violet ones, bright and twinkling as they flickered over my face.
A whaft of warm, flowery perfume filled my nose, then Mor squeezed into between me and Azriel, sighing happily as she squinted into the sun. “Should we save him?”
I looked over towards where Cassian was buried under at least six little Fae children that were yelling and climbing over him.
From the corner of my eye, I saw Azriel's lips quirk as he reclined lazily. “He looks like he's got it handled.”
Cassian dramatically went limp. Then he stirred, sending children tumbling over the cobblestone laughing as he straightened up and grinned at them, and I giggled.
Getting to his feet, Cassian patted the head of one of the children and sent them a wink before beginning to walk back towards us, the children going back to chasing each other over the square.
“Is your back alright, brother?” Rhys watched him get closer, creases in his cheeks deepening. “I could swear I heard it crack when you got up.”
“I heard it.” Azriel squinted into the sun.
Mor sighed dramatically. “Tragic. The mighty hero is getting old.”
“I could take a look at it.” I blinked up at Cassian innocently. From the corner of my eye, I saw the others look towards me as I shrugged, pulling off another piece of waffle. “I deal with injuries of the elderly all the time.”
Rhys started laughing, his head dipping back, and my heart swerved at the deep, rich sound. On my other side, Mor was laughing as well, bright and causing her body to vibrate as the Spymaster grinned, and Cassian scowled, but his eyes were twinkling mischievously when he narrowed them and pointed at me. “Careful, little one.”
"You know she could take you, right?" Rhys was smirking.
I only squinted up at Cassian, feeling my lips curve cheekily.
There was a light pull on my sleeve, and when I looked down in surprise, my heart skipped gently.
A small Fae girl, just a few years old, was standing in front of me, looking up at me with huge eyes.
I could feel my lips rise, and sliding my waffle into Rhys' hand, I slipped off the bench, crouching down until I was on her level before sending her a slow, wide smile.
“Hello.”
The girl shuffled a little, her eyes sheepish as they flickered over me and the flowers still stuck in my hair. Then she held out her hand.
Something rose softly underneath my ribs when I slowly took the small paper blossom from her tiny fingers. Carefully, I placed it in my palm, staring at it. Then I looked up at her through my lashes and sent her a slow, cheeky smile.
“Want to see something?”
The girl nodded quickly, and feeling my smile brighten, I looked down again, closing my eyes for a moment. Then I dipped my head and gently, very gently, blew air over the blossom.
Golden sparks twinkled, making the little girl's eyes grow big, and slowly, before our eyes, the paper flower turned into a real one, its purple petals slowly opening.
The girl's eyes were huge when she looked up at me, beginning to beam, and grinning back widely, I leaned forward, carefully tucking the flower behind her small, pointed ear. Then I straightened up again and sent her a light wink, and with a quiet giggle, the girl quickly turned around, darting back over the square.
Staring after her with a wide smile, I slowly pushed myself up and back onto the bench. Then I raised my head, and my breath hitched a little when I found four pairs of eyes on me.
Mor's lips were parted softly, that strange vibrant awe back in her gaze while Cassian's lips were curving. Azriel's head was dipped to the side a little, a barely there twinkle in his eyes – and Rhys' iris looked brighter than the stars as he stared at me.
“What?”, I mumbled sheepishly, feeling a little heat bloom on my cheeks. Then I caught sight of the huge piece missing out of my waffle and immediately widened my eyes, glaring at Rhys. “Hey!”
“I told you they'd love you.”
My heart skipped softly, and when I looked over my shoulder, Rhys leaned into the open doors, squinting into the low sun as one corner of his lips creased.
Something fluttered softly against my ribs.
“Well, I am very loveable.” I sent him a bright, cheeky grin, and Rhys huffed, the crease in his cheek deepening as he pushed off the doorframe.
Watching him come towards me, I blinked and turned back around, breathing out as I held my face into the warm, sinking sun.
We were back at the house that I still didn't quite believed was supposed to be mine, the window doors open to let in the soft evening breeze as I sat on the stone steps leading from the terrace down into the garden. The light of the sinking sun was dipping everything in a golden shimmer, faeries whizzing through the flowers and tittering happily.
Something brushed against my shoulder, then Rhys took a seat next to me, propping his arms onto his knees and squinting into the light.
“Are you sure you want to sleep here?”
I huffed softly. “I am sure I'm not keen on more flying.”
Rhys' lips curved, his violet eyes piercing the side of my face. “You're insulting my flying?”
“I'm insulting your need for aerial maneuvers.”
Rhys slowly began to grin. “I'm taking that personal.”
“Good. It's awful.” I barely held myself back from breaking into a wide smile.
Rhys' eyes crinkled as he stared at me. Then he blinked and looked over his shoulder. “The main bedroom is on the third floor. Everything's there, so –“
Something closed around my throat, and I quickly whispered: “Thank you.”
Rhys looked at me, and I stared back, trying to swallow against the tightness in my chest as suddenly, the words stumbled from my lips.
“Thank you for trusting me. With this, this city. Your family. And –“, I blinked, “for buying me a house, you - complete – maniac, who just does that?!” I exhaled a little tremblingly as something skipped and fluttered in my chest and I sniffled a bit, my eyes suddenly burning a bit.
Rhys stared at me, the muscles in his cheek working as his lips parted.
“Thank you,”, I whispered a little wobbly, and I could feel Rhys swallow when for a moment, he looked like a dozen answers were running through his head, things he wanted to say stumbling over each other.
But when he opened his lips, nothing came out but one word, quiet, simple and a little hoarse.
“Always.”
A soft shuddering breath left me as my shoulders sunk, and Rhys' violet eyes dragged over my face. Then he blinked, and one corner of his lips curved gently.
“Sleep tight, starshine.”
I swallowed, and Rhys got to his feet, sending me a light wink that made my heart swerve as he started walking down the steps into the garden. I could see the way his shoulders shifted, the way he stretched his neck a little, and suddenly, something dropped into my stomach.
“Wait!”
I darted to my feet, and Rhys stilled. Then he looked over his shoulder, and before I could stop myself, I blurted: “Stay.”
Rhys' lips parted, and hastily, I squeezed my hands into fists.
“I just –“ My eyes darted over his face; my heart skipped once, high, and with a soft breath, I felt my shoulders sag.
“I hate the thought of you up there alone,”, I mumbled.
Rhys blinked. Then the tension bled from his muscles, and his lips curved, just a little.
“Are you sure?”
“Yes.” I breathed out, my eyes darting over his face, illuminated by the sinking sun, his dark hair tousled, his iris a soft violet, and somehow, I managed to ignore the rising, swelling feeling in my chest.
The curve to Rhys' lips deepend, and he slowly turned a little, his eyes beginning to twinkle in the light as he raised a brow. “I can take the couch.”
My heart fluttered high, and I tried to not let it show, just grinning crookedly.
“What, this huge house has no guest room?”
“I thought I'd leave the details of which room becomes what to you.” The twinkle in Rhys' eyes seemed to grow as he slowly started to saunter back towards me, slipping his hands into his pockets as he shrugged casually.
“Convenient.” I felt my lips curve as the flutter in my chest grew sky high, my breath catching when I caught sight of the crease in Rhys' cheek.
“I'll take the couch.”
“No, you won't.” My voice was steady, maybe even amused, even though my heart was beating out my chest the closer Rhys got as I suddenly wondered what I was doing.
Rhys' eyes crinkled a little as he moved up the steps towards me. “What if I snore after all?”
“Then I´ll kick you.” I tried to keep my breathing even when he stopped on the step right beneath mine, almost on eye level for once, my heart missing a beat when I swore I could feel his chest brush against mine.
The crease in Rhys' cheek deepend. “So violent.”
I must've managed to deadpan, because he chuckled, a grin slowly spreading over his face. Then he blinked, and it dimmed, becoming soft when he mumbled, his deep voice a gentle caress over my spine: “Are you sure?”
My heart jumped against my ribs, and I probably should have listened to the warning of its irregular rhythm or the way my breath couldn't seem to stay steady.
But I just smiled back, soft and cheeky and crooked. “Yes. I'm sure.”
Rhys' gaze flickered over my face, and something shifted in his iris, the twinkle a little deeper as he nodded gently. "Alright."

babes please tell us how our hot lumberjack daddy of a husband is doing😭😭😭😭🫶🏽
- He’s doing amazingly omds. Ever since baby bun has given birth to the twins he’s been staying home more and planning more day outs for the family. (Growing evermore protective of his precious woman and their tiny tots) He’s still so animalistic growling when he even senses another man looking at his wife, his large burly arms wrapping around her waist to bring her flush against his chest; leaving her in a fit of giggles and swooning. Since their trip to Disneyland he’s definitely relied a bit more on his mother to take the kids every so often so he can savour baby bun, practically ruining her until they need a new headboard with a new baby expected on the way.
- When baby bun is out helping her grandparents, or on one of her daily walks out in the gardens by herself, she’ll most likely come back to her baby twins sleeping on top of their daddy’s wide chest making her sleepy herself. So ultimately she finds herself cramming herself into Henry’s side (He’s strong enough to hold her up anyway) watching her family nap together.
- “G’damn miracle are ya sure you’re 6 months old” He’d grimace having to change the diapers of his babies, one thing he didn’t realise when becoming a father was how much these little ones eat and shit
- “C’mere sugar, wan’ hold ya” He’d whine nearly every night, pulling Y/n closer and flush against his chest, kissing her naked body and fondling her until she falls asleep from his touch with a comforting orgasm
- He’s embracing the girl dad life with Iris, her big eyes capturing her daddy in a spell just like her momma. When she’s older Henry ends up in pink tutus, kiddie makeup and sitting at a tea party with the best of her stuffed animals. Beau on the other hand is very independent so of course he takes an interest into Henry’s business, sitting on his lap at big important meetings when it comes to his properties + company etc. Overall both Iris and Beau love spending time with their daddy especially in his wood workshop where he works on his side business. Although Henry would make sure his babies would never know the dark side of his business (unless one would show an interest in taking over) They didn’t need to know how he had basically gate-keeped their mother selfishly from the world, they didn’t need to know how he had stalked her initially nor how he had manipulated her into thinking she had a choice in all this.
But Maybe she did because even a blind man could see Henry’s guard dissolving just for her, his number 1 baby, Y/n

—————————————————————————
“There’s someone at the door”, your friend Mark yells, audible enough for you to proceed to the main entrance and unlatch the door. As you open the door, you’re greeted by two muscular men, one of them being your brother, Park Jimin.
Your brother is holding the other man, who appears to be half asleep, by his shoulders, supporting him in order for him to stand erect in front of you. His eyes are closed. The man looks wasted, as though he must’ve devoured gallons of booze.
“Brother, what are you doing at Mark’s place at this hour?”, You ask your brother as he looks at you agitated and in scrutiny. “What are YOU doing at Mark’s place at this hour, is my question exactly”, he retorts, evidently fuming because of your presence at a guy’s place during such an odd timing.
“Brother Jimin, I was here because Samantha, Mark’s girlfriend invited me over for a little freshers party for our university batch”, you chirp, trying to ease down the tense atmosphere created by your brother by emphasising on the fact that a girl invited you, not a guy. Your brother has always been over protective of you to say the least. He even used to masquerade himself as your husband whenever your childhood friend Namjoon insisted on playing house with you. No man has dared to approach you as your brother masked himself as the hooligan who chased those scoundrels away from his precious baby sister. You have always lead a sheltered life being Park Jimin’s inestimable sibling.
“Go back to your dorm, I will drive you.”, Jimin strictly instructs you. You reluctantly comply and walk towards his car parked in-front of the decorated porch. On the way, you notice, the drunken being has opened his eyes as he coughs violently, an indication to his hangover and presumably nausea. You quickly halt in your tracks as you retrace your steps back to the foyer, where both the men are still currently standing.
“He’s gonna vomit, let me guide him to the washroom before he ruins Mark’s vestibule.”, you say alarmingly. Your brother looks at you with a straight face with his tongue poking the inner side of the cheek. “No I’ll take him.”, your brother announces. The man is still coughing vigorously. You direct your brother to the bathroom area where the younger man can go and barf to his heart’s content.
You go to Mark’s kitchen and prepare lemon water for the latter for his hangover. You climb up the stairs to the room where the toilet is located. You look at your brother patting the stranger’s back, trying to calm him down, while he throws up. You hand over the lemonade to your brother who then leans down to make the man drink it as a cure for his drunkenness. You grab a mop to clean the toilet while the duo is still sat on the floor.
Your brother suddenly sits up straight. “I’m going to the kitchen to keep the glass in the sink. You clean up this washroom and then we’ll leave okay?” Your brother leaves the man unattended, that means, under your care and surveillance. You proceed to clean the floor with the mop and the toilet area on which there’s puke stains while the man sits down on the floor trying to rejuvenate and recover and sober up.
Once you’re done cleaning, you attempt to look at the man sitting on the floor with his eyes closed and his one hand rubbing his temples. You stare at his swoon worthy features, he’s gorgeous. His hair is a beautiful colour of burgundy accentuating his features which comprise of a well defined and sharp jawline, elevated cheekbones, a glowing forehead due to beads of sweat formed on it, his cherry pigmented plump and moist lips. His delicate facial characteristics encapsulate you in a void where no one exists except for the both of you. He’s such a beauty.
“Are you done staring”, the man states, you get pulled out of the trance as his deep yet very sexy voice resonates with you. He opens his eyes, revealing his orbs. His eyes are a beautiful shade of brown with a pearly glint to them which appear as glistening stars stolen from the transcendent universe. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to stare.”, you say embarrassed, your cheeks crimson. The man just grunts and groans in response, probably still in a lot of pain due to consumption of liquor.
“By the way, I’m Y/N, Park Jimin’s sister”, you introduce yourself trying to converse with him for some mystic reason. “Jungkook. Jeon jungkook.”, he says his name with his eyes glued to you, further flustering you. “Nice to meet you Jungkook”, you say coyly, he smirks in return, surprising you. “Is your headache okay?”, you try to continue this colloquial interaction. “You’re pretty”, he says, ignoring your question as you’re thrown aback by his statement. “Excuse me?”, you ask in disbelief unable to believe what you just heard. “I said you’re pretty”, he has a teasing grin on his face, as butterflies jitter in your stomach seeing him flash a smile. “Thank you”, you say genuinely.
Jungkook tries to stand up straight but is unable to do so, hence, you lend him a hand after witnessing his futile attempts to get up. “No i’m fine I do not need your help.” he spits, “You look like you need it.”, you jab at him after spotting his annoyance. He looks at your hand in front of him, contemplates a little before taking it to get up. You guide him to the wash basin where he splatters cold water on his face, some droplets cling onto you due to you being so close to him.
He looks at you while you try to wipe the few droplets on yourself, you look so pretty, almost as if, he feels like he’s witnessing an angel in heaven playing with the water gods. Droplets trickle down his face, seeing them fall down, you’re reminded of your brother whom you’d help cleaning up this way whenever he splashed his face with water, you grab a towel and instinctively start wiping his face, leaving him flustered this time. Realisation sinks in a while later when you’re almost done cleaning his face, you’re way too close to him, your front bodies almost touching, you’re almost feeling his buff chest through his tank top. You quickly retract from there, bowing your head to apologise for this sudden erratic behaviour, making him chuckle. You then look up as he towers over your figure, your lips almost touching his. Your heart skips a beat. He’s so beautiful. You pull yourself away from him and in the process you slip over the slippery freshly mopped surface. You’re prepared to fall when you suddenly feel a strong arm preventing your fall by holding you by your waist. You both stare into each other’s eyes. Minutes pass by, you both remain in this position but it changes when you hear footsteps approaching you. You become aware of your surroundings, you stand up alert, away from the muscular figure.
“Sorry for taking so much time, I met this weird guy ‘Mark’ who was all over me, questioning my roots?? Then I had to explain to him that I’m Y/N’s brother, like couldn’t he have guessed by just looking at me?”, Jimin says as he enters the washroom. You and Jungkook look at him and then at each other and laugh at your brother’s overdramatised rhetorics. “Well, the good news is that I’ve sobered up thanks to you and your little sister, which I had no clue about until today so thanks for that Park.”, Jungkook says sarcastically, “Now let’s leave this ‘weird guy’s washroom’ before he barges in and inspects my roots as well”, jungkook continues as he earns a laugh from your end.
You head to your brother’s end, feeling someone’s eyes over you. Jungkook is looking at you, for some reason, you’re so alluring to him.
He opens the car door for you, as you step inside, sitting right behind the passenger seat, the one which Jungkook has captured. Your brother buckles his seat belt as he gets ready to drive. You feel Jungkook pushing his seat back a little as your leg space gets cramped, annoying you. You spread your legs wide under his seat, almost touching his legs. He senses this and turns his head around to look at you as he subtly but gently kicks your leg back earning a small yelp from you. You never back down in a fight, especially silent wars like this. You not so gently kick his leg earning a shriek from him which grabs the attention of your brother who formerly was only focusing on driving. “What happened jungkook?”, he asks raising an eyebrow, Jungkook looks at you in discreet where you signal for him to keep his mouth shut. Jungkook looks at you smugly, intaking the fact that you’re absolutely terrified of your brother. He is about to speak when your petrified state says, “He wants to listen to Kim Namjoon’s new album”, your brother looks at you and then at him curiously, “Is that so?”, he raises an eyebrow again, this time directed at jungkook and you both. “Yes”, “No”—you and jungkook reply in unison confusing the older man. “The album Seven is way better”, Jungkook retorts, he earns a gasp from you. “No wayyy, Right place Wrong Person is the best.”, you argue. You and Jungkook keep going back and forth on this topic, tired by this Jimin intrudes in your skirmish with Jungkook. “Both of them suck, Muse is way better than both of them anyday.”. Jungkook and you look at him in absolute astonishment. “THAT ALBUM IS THE ABSOLUTE WORST, Oli London sings better than the artist who created ‘Muse’”, you both say in unison to which Jimin heaves showing he is so offended by that. “Get out of my car you both.”, he scolds. You and Jungkook just laugh at this.
As time goes, you get bored as you still sense eyes on you but the entire car is silent. You plug in your wireless ear phones, playing ‘Labyrinth by Taylor Swift’, one of your comfort songs. You look at Jungkook while the song plays in the background through the rear view mirror and you spot him, looking back at you, amusing you. “Pass me one of your ear buds as well”, Jungkook says, as he also insists on joining in your music playing jam. You hand him one of the ear buds and as you’re about to sit back on your seat again, he holds your hand, pulls you forward and takes your phone from your hand, switching the track from ‘Labyrinth’ to ‘the boy is mine’ by Ariana Grande. “Hey! I was listening to taylor swift”, you whine, Jungkook just half laughs, “Well now you’re listening to the boy is mine.”, he says while Jimin remains silent, his attention solely on the road, you roll your eyes, as you attempt to sit back on the seat.
You look out of the window of your brother’s car as you spot a flower vendor on the way. “STOP THE CAR!”, you yell/demand. Your brother immediately stops the car, “WHO THE FUCK DIED?”, he screams as you just look at him, “Nothing, I just wanted irises, there’s a flower vendor there on the road.”, you say casually as both Jimin and Jungkook shake their heads at you. “I’ll buy it for you.”, Jimin sighs as he opens the car door to get out but is interrupted by the young man sitting on the passenger seat,” No Hyung, let me go buy flowers for her, you already bought my today’s dose of alcohol for me.”, Jimin agrees as Jungkook gets out and purchases a bouquet of irises for you. Your heart thumps loudly, the background music shifts to play Labyrinth by Taylor Swift again, you see Jungkook approach your side of the window with his flowers for you, his iris that he bought for you. You lower down your window shuttle as he hands you the flowers while Taylor Swift in your ear bud sings out ‘Uh oh I’m falling in love’. You mouth a small thank you to him while he just flashes a gentle small smile to you.
The moonlight luminescent in the sky as you head out of the car after reaching your dorm. “Take care of yourself and no more of any late night rendezvous or parties from now on.”, Jimin says sternly, you nod and wish him goodnight by pecking his cheeks. The car stays still till you enter the frontier of your college dorm, you look back one last time, glancing at the man sitting beside your brother, flashing him a small smile as the hold on the bouquet gifted by him gets stronger, you bask in the sweet fragrance of the irises as you turn yourself away from the vehicle, as you do that, you notice a small slip hidden beneath the canopies of the flowers, you proceed to take it out. The note carrying nine digits belonging to the person who has a bunny like smile. You smile at the note which clearly flushed as you cannot wait to text him.
The following morning, you wake up and wash up for your classes in uni. You’re majoring in economics, planning to be a data analyst for finance companies. You put on your mascara while the events from last night flash in your mind, oh how a chance encounter blossomed exciting feelings within you. You haven’t texted Jungkook yet for some reason. Although the wait is tormenting you but you like this game which nuances your patience levels. You pick up your bag after you’re done caking your face with makeup.
You catch a public bus to reach your college from your dorm. You clutch your phone in your hands. You enter his digits inscribed on the note via your dial pad. You save his contact as Jungkook.
You send him a text after much contemplation as to what to message him. Your text reads, ‘Hi it’s Y/n, thanks for the flowers yesterday, how’s your hangover right now?”
You put your phone down, as you do that, you feel it vibrate, you’ve received a notification from the very person you just texted.
The message says, “Hey there pretty girl, I’m feeling a bit better thanks to someone’s lemonade.”, ‘so he noticed’, you think, you continue reading the message which states, “Hope you liked the flowers and the little gift I left with it”, he’s clearly being flirtatious, catching you off guard with his text, your cheeks flush a new shade of red. “I liked the flowers, although I cannot say the same for your ‘gift’”, you tease him on text. “You texting me right now is proof enough that you didn’t just like it, you loved it.” he replies to your text, unwaveringly. How is he able to make your heart flutter through text. Is he a professional flirt or what. These thoughts cross your mind as you blush profusely.
You depart the bus as you reach your destination. You plug in your earphones as you enter your university but are very shocked to see the person in-front of you.
Unbeknownst to you, Jeon Jungkook has befriended your brother within the gates of this college. Jeon Jungkook is also pursuing bachelors in finance and is interning in one of the big shot companies hence the payment of the flowers was done by his hard earned money.
Jungkook looks at your tiny silhouette as he heads over to you. He immediately takes one of your ear pieces and inserts in his right ear. “the boy is mine? sweet, glad you picked up on my elite taste”, Jungkook remarks earning a glare from you as your cheeks heat up. “Not because of you, I just happened to like this song, it’s Ariana after all.”, you protest, more like lie, you’ve been unable to get Jungkook out of your mind ever since yesterday and this song draws you close to Jungkook’s tastes. “I’m surprised to see you here though like I didn’t know you attended the same college as my brother and I.”, you say truthfully to which Jungkook replies wittily, “How else was I able to afford those expensive irises if not for an internship in finance company due to this university?”, “Fair enough”, you say sighing.
Your hair comes undone as you walk along with Jungkook, he notices that and stops in his tracks, holding your wrist, stopping you as well. He comes near you, his breath fanning over your lips, he gently holds your cheek, as you close your eyes preparing for a kiss, but you feel him tugging your hair strand behind your ears, leaving you flushed once again. He should get a degree in making you flustered. He lets go of your hand and leans in to whisper, “Maybe next time, I’ll kiss you.” your stomach is doing a back flip as your heart stops beating all because of one person, Jeon Jungkook.
“Wanna bunk?”, Jungkook suggests as you hastily shake your head, “No noo, my brother will plunge a dagger through my heart if he ever finds out.”, Jungkook snorts at your statement, “Who’s gonna be telling him?”, he simply says, “I thought you were supposed to be his friend?”, you ask, “I am but sometimes, he can be unreasonably strict especially towards you, you’re allowed to have fun too you know.”, he says softly, “the only thing unreasonable is bunking.” you state, he rolls his eyes, “one day of skipping class would not hurt anyone, judging by the bag you’re carrying, you look too diligent, you’ll be able to cover up the missed class syllabus in no time, plus i’ll help as well.”, he says to which you agree as you look at his chocolatey eyes.
Jungkook pulls up with your brother’s car from the previous day. You look at him with widened eyes, “What if brother notices that his car is missing and then he finds out I’m ditching class?”, you panic while Jungkook just laughs, he indicates for you to get in. You hastily become his passenger princess as you sit on the seat beside him while he buckles his seatbelt and sets out to drive.
Jungkook shows you a text which is seemingly acknowledged by your brother as it reads, “Ditching class. Taking your car for a ride.”, you just keep your eyes widened in shock, “He let you skip?”, you ask still amazed, “He can’t stop me sweetheart”, jungkook replies smugly.
Jungkook parks the car in the parking lot, as he steps out, he comes to your side of the car and opens the door like a gentleman, impressed by his actions, you get out of the car and bow to him as a way of showing your appreciation towards his very considerate behaviour. You both head to a coffee shop as he orders a chocolate mocha for you and chocolate shake with condensed banana milk for him. You take a note of his liking towards banana milk as he specifically requests for banana milk along with his chocolate shake.
“Are we going to sit down for our drinks?”, you ask, “Is that what you want?”, Jungkook asks in return, “I mean what do you plan to do now?”, you ask as you hold your chocolate mocha in one hand sipping on the drink while he devours his banana milk chocolate shake. “How about we go shopping?”, he offers, you agree. You love shopping for clothes, you usually come alone or with your brother or sometimes with your dorm mates but this would be the first time you’d go shopping with a guy, this would be special. “Let’s go shopping for clothes!”, you chirp making Jungkook smile.
You enter this shopping outlet with Jungkook, you both unknowingly link your arms as you scroll through the columns where the dresses were hung.
“Will this purple suit you?”, you ask trying to imagine him in a purple shirt, “I hate purple”, he immediately remarks, you sigh as you say, “hate is a strong feeling, maybe say purple doesn’t suit you?”, jungkook rolls his eyes, his expression on his face darkening, becoming more serious, “I hate it.”, he states coldly, fearing you with his eccentric reply, you don’t coax him further with this entire ‘purple’ topic.
While looking for T-shirts for him, you stumble upon the prettiest dress you’ve ever seen. A floral printed skirt with a white vest embedded with buttons in the middle. A classic dress. Jungkook notices you admiring the beautiful work done by the creator of the dress. “We should buy this white floral dress”, he remarks, you look at him and shake your head, “No, it’s too costly plus I’m not carrying a lot of money with me.”, you say, “It’s okay, this dress is on me”, Jungkook says offering to pay for the ethereal dress, “No Jeon, it’s okay but thanks for the offer though.”, Your eyes brim with sincerity moving Jungkook.
Jungkook asks you to get him coffee while he has to buy something, you comply, as you go to the café, today’s fun all because of one person’s presence.
You sit down after taking what you ordered for Jungkook as you wait for him to arrive. He comes with a shopping bag. He sits down right beside you, his face only a few centimetres away from you. Accelerating your beating heart, you try to move away but he grabs your wrist yet once again and pulls you closer to him. He holds your cheek while his other hand pulls out something in front of you, as it turns out, it is the same shopping bag he was carrying when he entered the café.
“What about this?”, you ask him looking at his hand carrying the shopping bag in front of your face. “This is for you.”, he says softly, his eyes piercing through yours, “You didn’t need to-“, you say flustered, “Shh, consider it a gift from my end.”, he immediately cuts you short, as your heart flips.
You take the bag from his hand, blushing. You thank him for his gift. He waves for you to unpack the ‘gift’. The gift turns out to be the expensive dress you laid your eyes on. Your mouth falls, wide agape, you look at him, half happy, half cranky, “Jeon why-“, you ask, “Just thought it’d look good on you.”, he states truthfully. You peck his cheeks as your token of thanks. His cheeks now visibly turning pink. He clears his throat as he says, “Wear this tomorrow okay?”, “Tomorrow why?”, you look at him as you ask this, “Don’t you want to cover your missed syllabus? I’ll help you tomorrow over a cup of coffee after classes.”, you smile at him as he says this and nod your head.
“Also Jeon, please take your classes seriously, try not to skip them much.”, you request him, more like advise him as you stare into his honey glazed eyes. He nods his head and promises you to take care of his college academic life. You smile at him as he reciprocates your smile.
The next evening, you look at yourself in the mirror where you’re adorned by jewellery which goes along with the outfit bought by Jungkook. You apply blush on your cheeks and a rose tint on your lips to accentuate their shade. You comb your hair and tie your hair in a sleek pony.
You walk towards the doorway of your dorm, opening your camera app, looking at yourself for the last time before Jungkook pulls up with Jimin’s car. Jimin is out of town for his internship for the time being, creating a lot of time for you to meet Jungkook for your little study session.
Jungkook has parked Jimin’s car in front of the entrance of your dorm. He slowly lowers down his window shuttle. You proceed forward towards the car, growing closer to him. He looks at you, completely and utterly mesmerised by the beguiling beauty in front of him. Your soft features becoming more prominent due to the addition of the jewellery.
Jungkook steps out of the car after basking in your lavender scent, he holds your hand, leads you to your side of the car, opens the door for you to sit inside the vehicle. He has a bunny like smile plastered on his face as he gazes the pulchritudinous lady admiringly.
He’s pulled out of this artistic trance set up by angels when you snap your fingers in front of him. He blinks his eyes, as he gets onto the driver’s seat. He hands you an iris lovingly before setting out to drive you both to a café.
You both reach the café, Jungkook is scanning the menu while you plop out the study material of the lecture you missed that you borrowed from your dorm roommate. Jungkook furrows his eyebrows as he looks at you, “We’re going to start studying right away?”, he questions astonished, “Yes, I have to maintain my CGPA, to land an impressive internship for a great experience.”, you reply, he sighs as he keeps the menus aside, “I guess we will order coffee in a while.”, he says while you laugh.
“Jungkook you know, the colour purple that you seemingly detest is the colour of the irises I love. Isn’t that a bizarre coincidence?” You say while Jungkook just remains silent, his face blank yet tears pooling near his eyes, “Y/n, you know I used to love the colour purple once but as it turns out your likes and dislikes alter as you grow up so now tada I hate purple.”, he says. You witness the evident façade he’s establishing to suppress his real emotions but you don’t want to be a pushover hence you try to change the topic, “What about your hobbies? What do you like aside from banana milk?”, he notices how you mention banana milk as he raises an eyebrow enchanted by your attention to detail, “You”, he simply replies, ruffling you, your heart flittering, “I’m serious, stop kidding.”, you say, your cheeks turning a scarlet shade of red. “You can say I like tutoring the one I like, I like playing video games and driving a damsel around to a café.”, he says, jitters in your stomach, this man is so coquettish, you hit his toned chest as he’s just sitting beside you hence giving you an easy access to touching his body, “Stop joking Jeon.”, you say even though you want him to continue his flirting whilst still wanting to learn about his likes and dislikes. “You can say I like over watch.”, he says trying to quench your curiosity about him, “Like the video game or the hentai?”, you tease, he widens his eyes, his ears turning crimson red, “You know what hentai is?”, he asks in return, shocked by your knowledge, “Oh I’m a woman of many secrets.,”, you say trying to continue this witty interaction where you’ve the upper hand, “Oh I see, can’t wait to uncover all the secrets this woman might be hiding.”, Jungkook smirks as he says that. You both laugh and have a gala time during this electrifying tutoring session provided by him only exclusive to you.
Hours pass by, you’re almost done being taught by him, you’ve covered up the necessary topics. You love how you both can bond over studies as well now. “I guess we’re done for today.”, Jungkook says looking unpleasant, his face is like an empty canvas which articulates every emotion in his palette whenever he feels them. “You don’t want me to go yet?”, you say, surprised by how bold you’ve become in a few days because of this gentleman, you let out a small squeal, “Yes, in fact how did you even know?”, Jungkook laughs, himself astonished by the change in your behaviour. “You know what, I’ll pick you up tomorrow morning for college, let’s go together, what say?”, he proposes, “Yes a hundred times yes.”, you approve.
The following morning, you spot him with his car, more like your brother’s car which has become his now for the time being, you clutch onto your bag pack as you see him step out and open the car gate for you to get in, his passenger queen.
He gets in the vehicle as well. He starts the engine and before he starts driving, he pulls out the midnight album by Taylor Swift, for which he got up extra early so that you could listen to Labyrinth with him in the car to the way to your institute. “You like Taylor Swift now?”, you say flustered, and impressed both by how considerate he has become of your tastes, but the truth is, he’s growing fond of you as you are of him, he’s taking a liking to your tastes, you’re changing him in ways that he doesn’t realise but he knows it’s for the best, as he’s becoming gentler day by day and the due reason and cause of this is you, “Yes apparently so, Labyrinth is a beautiful song.”, he replies to you. Labyrinth plays while you both just enjoy a comfortable yet very exciting car ride with each other.
Uh Oh I’m Falling in love.
Uh OH I’m falling in love.
These lyrics deeply resonating with you two as days go by with each other. It’s so easy being around each other. It’s like the time stops when you’re both with each other.
Days go by, as you keep on spending time with Jungkook, as you get to know him little by little, as a piece of your heart slowly starts eroding away to him little by little. He also feels the same for you, he finds your presence very alluring and comforting, you’re the soothing rhythm of his life who accelerates the pace of his heartbeat. Your existence has started to become his sole reason of ecstasy. You both have reformed into positive and better souls just because of each other’s company.
One eventful morning, as you enter the university gates, someone pulls you by your bag, your back clashes into a well built chest, you immediately recognise who this chest belongs to, Jeon Jungkook. He hands you an iris as he says, “You know I hate purple, yet a small part of me, yearns for irises, I resent purple, but maybe, this time, because of you, I can make an exception to irises.”, he says with a soulful smile while you just encapsulate him in a small embrace as you feel happy for him and you.
Theese days seem the most precious to you because of a certain someone who in such a short while has become your everything. Your heart is prancing out of sheer euphoria yet your gut, your intuition is screaming that something sorrowful might happen, you turn a blind eye to your perplexes, deep down knowing, Jungkook is concealing something from you, that, he’d never be entirely yours if he has to someday, if he keeps on desolating his darkest regions, or perhaps, the reason why he seemingly hates the shade of purple.
Your intuition has stood corrected. Jungkook hasn’t contacted you ever since he told you about how he could make an exception to liking purple irises. He isn’t even been showing up to the university anymore. You’ve been texting him about his whereabouts, you’re concerned about his well being. 100 missed calls, that’s how many times you’ve called him but received no answer. Is this what love bombing is? Bombarding you with love before your beloved goes all ghost mode on you. Your brother has returned back from his internship tour as well. He has met with you, you have had to resist yourself from asking about Jungkook to him countless times as you can’t risk exposing your true feelings to your brother, fearing his reaction.
You feel empty, as if someone has shot your soul with bullets but the blood isn’t oozing out. You’re entrapped in a melancholic state as the one who made your world colourful, even for a little while, has left you without any reasoning. You’ve lost count of how many overthinking sessions you have indulged yourself in till date. This is tormenting, even soul crushing. You don’t feel energetic enough to attend your classes hence you’ve been skipping your classes. His absence has sucked the soul and life out of you. This is unhealthy, which doesn’t go unnoticed by your brother. He worries for you as he sees you spiral down into doldrum, he has asked you many a times as to why you were like this, but you couldn’t tell him, even if you wanted to, he’s helpless. He’s suffering because he cannot see you in such a devastating state and his best friend isn’t replying to his texts and calls either.
One mighty evening, as if the almighty has heard your silent prayers and cries, you stumble upon Jimin talking to someone, you continue overhearing as the person on the other end of the call turns out to be Jungkook, your heart thumping loudly, breath shortening, eye sight becoming hazy, your ears becoming more attentive to the call. You feel relieved, he’s alive and breathing, but you grow more distraught as the call continues, “Jungkook-ah, where the fuck have you been?”, Jimin says, his call on speaker inadvertently. “My mother is in ICU-“, Jungkook’s voice breaks, -“they say..she-she doesn’t have a long time to live.”, Jungkook cries, Jimin falls down on the ground, “Jungkook oh my fucking god, I’m visiting you right now.”, Jimin says, which Jungkook immediately declines, “No hyung, don’t, your graduation is nearing, you’ve important finals, attend them, they’re more important than this, I’ll be okay here.”, Jimin sighs, “Let me know if I can do anything for you, I’ll be available for you 24/7, I’ll pray for Mrs. Jeon.”, Jimin says sadly as Jungkook just acknowledges that and cries on call with him. You fall down to the floor as you hear their conversation, you gain whatever strength you’ve left within you to pick yourself piece by piece as you go to your room, yes you are staying with your brother for the mean time as he has noticed your saddened state, so you enter your room, you cry to your heart’s content, then you look at yourself in the mirror, as you promise yourself and Jungkook, “I’m coming Jeon, I’ll be there for you through this.”, you prepare yourself mentally as you’ve to be the one now supporting him.
You’ve booked a ticket for a train to busan to visit Jungkook, you heard about the hospital’s name and his whereabouts via the call between your brother and your beloved.
On the way to the hospital, as you hail a cab, you buy a beautiful bouquet of irises.
You reach the hospital, you pay the fare of the cab journey to the cab driver, he thanks you for the payment.
You rush inside the hospital and go up to the receptionist to ask about Mrs. Jeon. “What’s your relationship with her?”, the receptionist inquires, “Daughter in law.”, you say adamant to see her son. “Room 408, this way ma’am”, the receptionist guides you to an elevator where you reach the fourth floor. You search for room number eight. You find the room and before you push open the door to the room as you’re meeting with her during visiting hours, you once again, mentally ready yourself before the grandeur meeting.
Shuffling through the door knob, an asleep Jungkook wakes up, his mouth agape, tears escaping his eyes as he looks at the figure in front of him. You look as beautiful as ever, just weaker due to all those skipped meals because you missed him terribly and he looks sick as well like he hasn’t slept and eaten properly in days, the dark circles beneath his eyes, a clear indication of him crying for days straight.
The first thing you do when you see him, is run forward to hug him, he doesn’t believe his eyes yet, even if you’re in his arms, he cannot believe that you’re here, with him, for him. Tears pool near his eyes, as he cries on your shoulder while hugging you tightly, as if he’ll never let you go ever again. The hug is a mixture of regret for not talking to you, melancholy because of his mother and a lot of love because he missed you, missed your affection and missed being near you. He melts in your hug, crying his eyes out, you pat and rub his back to comfort him, “Everything will be fine Jungkook.”, you whisper softly into his ears, your own voice cracking because of your tears, which doesn’t go unnoticed by Jungkook. “I’m so-sorry Y/n.”, he cries, “Shh, I’m here now, it’s okay.”, you coo in his ears, gently rubbing his back.
You both separate from each other, he leans forward to kiss your forehead, “What are you doing here, how’d you find out about all this? I’m so sorry for leaving without any texts. I should’ve reached out to you, it’s just that I didn’t want you to see me in such a vulnerable state.”, he says hastily as the emotions he’s feeling right now are indescribable. A combination of happiness and sadness followed by a wave of nostalgia after seeing you, he’s in denial that you’re standing in front of him. “Jungkook, how could I ever leave you at this time, I eavesdropped on yours and Jimin’s conversation and as soon as I heard about your mother, I knew I had to come in, the truth is I’m in love with you Jungkook, even if you don’t feel the same way it’s okay, but i’ve promised myself that as long as I exist, I’ll be standing next to you, through thick and thin till I take my last breath. I’ll even walk through fire with you. It would be you and I against this damned world. We will fight through this together. I’ll never ever leave you alone ever. I promise, I love you and I’m sorry for being this late to this.”, you genuinely spill every aching feeling you’ve felt throughout the entirety of the time you’ve spent with and without him. The next thing he does, surprises you, he captures your lips with his own, kissing them ever so gently, pouring all his love through that gesture, the taste of his lips mixed with his tears, provide a bittersweet and emotional venture of love to you and him both. “Thank you so much for just existing, I love you too that even words cannot articulate the gravity of the feelings I harbour for you.”, sincerity brimming his eyes, you continue kissing him.
You’re sitting with him near his mother on bedrest. You give him the bouquet of irises you bought as a token of support. He looks at you and smiles softly and sadly. “The reason I hate purple is because of my parents, my parents co-owned this company, ‘Everything Purple’, where they sold literally every item in the shade of purple, I’ve grown up with this colour surrounding me. Purple represents independence, which my mother hoped for from her in laws as, if she was the one earning, she wouldn’t have to endure patriarchal abuse, but purple also represents ambition and turns out ambition for earning money and exercising authority over your wife is greater than any love you can have for her, so my father got jealous of my successful mother so he used to beat her almost everyday in-front of me, transferring all her shares to his name, which led to my paternal parents also ostracising her and performing atrocities against her.”, You look at him, he has been through so much, You hold his hand as he continues, his grip on your hand becoming stronger, as he is asking for remnant strength to overcome his trauma and speak freely about his tragedies to you, he takes a deep breath before saying, “One d-day, I saw her almost lifeless on the floor of my house as I was returning from my school, my dad had hit her too much that her bruises turned blue-, Y/n-ah, I-i c-called the ambulance, they took her, they-they said she was in a critical condition that she won’t survive the hit- they put IV tubes in her, they resuscitated her, all kudos to the almighty, but she got into coma and had a weak heart herein onwards- my bastard of a dad remarried and started a family out somewhere else and I used up her savings for my education to get into this college. Ever since that day my mother has been in coma and a few days earlier, the doctors called me that her condition has destabilised- I only have her as my family. I can’t lose her Y/n-…” Jungkook’s voice croaks, You hug him hard, your tears falling down because of him, “Jungkook, you wont lose her, she will always be by your side. She’s your mother, the last thing she wants is for you to cry over her. She must’ve wanted you to let go of this painful past as it’s hurting you.”, you say trying to comfort him, sharing his pain, providing him with a shoulder to lean on, “How do you know that Y/n”, Jungkook asks like a baby, “You know why I like irises so much, they were my grandmother’s favorite, she was a florist. She d-died a few years ago, she died an excruciatingly painful death, before she took her last breath, she told me, ‘Y/n, whatever happens, never cry over me, rejoice all the memories you’ve with me, celebrate that I existed in this world because I will always celebrate that I had an adorable grand daughter I could cater to, I only want to see you grow and become happy, I do not wish to see you lose your soul just because I departed to another destination, death is a part of life, you need to embrace this beautiful process and let go of me’, I cried a lot that day but I had to move on as life goes on, you cannot hold onto their passing forever or your tragedies for life as life is constantly in motion hence we need to match its fluidity, she also told me that irises represent hope and purple represents peace, Jungkook, I promise you, tranquility will soon arrive in your life, I promise to take my last breath devoted to making you happy because you matter and because that is also what your mother would have wanted, don’t hate purple, these purple irises symbolise hope, keep your hopes up, and as the saying goes ‘Even the darkest hour will end and the sun will rise’”, You say, your words moving mountains, deeply impacting Jungkook as he slowly lets go of his resentment towards the colour purple, “Thank you Y/n for everything, you know what, you came into my life and altered every parts of it, I was a broken man but you’re healing me, You’re my hope sweetheart, you keep me going, I vow to never ever leave your side either. I love you.”, he says as you hug him hearing his sincere words.
You come visit jungkook almost everyday as soon as your classes end, you’ve told your brother that you’d be staying at the dorm again, hence, all these short trips are unbeknownst to him, Jimin has visited Jungkook a few times, whenever he got time, they both are the best of buddies, hence Jungkook feels really grateful for the existence of both the siblings.
As time goes on, his mothers starts recovering, small steps at a time, the medication starts working well for her, Jungkook can see the light at the end of the tunnel and he can also see the one holding the light for him, guiding him to the brightest of places through the darkest of paths, the person is you, you’re his hope, his eternal sunshine, he has come to love you a lot, he can never imagine his life without you now. He even is ready to marry you after his futile attempts of hating on marriages and colour purple. He can finally see his life getting back on track with the invigorating nature of his mother’s treatment and your sole existence.
Months pass by, he has returned to college after stabilising his mother, they’ve had a mother-son talk and he has learnt to let go of the resentment he holds for his dad, thanks to you and his mother, Jimin has been giving him unwavering love and support, which he appreciates a lot. He has his academics on track, the only issue is, you both haven’t had a single romantic moment or a date after the kiss you shared in the hospital, although you both have been meeting regularly but only for vulnerable talks, to help reform each other, to help each other study and get each other’s life back on tracks.
Jungkook is planning to ask you out as his prom date, it’s his excuse to properly address and confess his feelings for you, an excuse for a romantic date accompanied by salsa/tango with you.
You’re standing near your locker, waiting for Jungkook to arrive. You feel a tap on your shoulder, you turn around hoping to see Jungkook but are disappointed when you’re met with Mark’s face, “Hey Y/n, long time.”, Mark says cheerfully, you greet him as well, “So do you have a partner for this dance thingy- i guess you could call it college prom yet?”, he asks, this question hurt your ego, you have jungkook but he hasn’t asked you out for prom yet, how inconsiderate of him. “No I’m date repellent as it seems, no one has asked me out for prom yet.”, you say honestly, annoyance evident in your tone, “Oh that’s sad, I’m going with Samantha, apparently she has a brother as well, who hasn’t found his date yet, do you want me to set you up with him?”, Mark offers, you’re about to reply to him but are cut short by Jungkook’s curt reply, “No, she’s going out with me, not anyone else.”, a small smile forms on your face as you look at him but you quickly mask it with a frown as you remember he hasn’t asked you out yet he’s announcing to the world that you’re his date, the audacity angers you. Jungkook notices the look plastered on your face, he comes near you, giving you a bouquet of irises with a slip hiding within the bouquet, reminding you of your first meeting with him. You smile softly at the fond memories of him, “Will you go out with me Y/n?”, Jungkook asks, as he kneels down on one knee while Mark watches you both in awe, “Yes!”, you immediately nod your head and hug him, while Mark cheers for you both, “I ship you both so much, get married and have kids.”, he hoots as you both laugh at him.
Prom night is today evening. You’re hastily getting your hair done while you iron your purple dress which you and Jungkook hand piqued together. You’re freaking out over your makeup as you apply purple glitter to your eyes like they showed in euphoria, you straighten your hair, while on call with Jungkook, amidst his preparation to get ready for the prom as well.
Your escort for the night is your brother, whom you’ve still not told about your little boyfriend and prom date. This is eating you up as you hate keeping secrets from him and you know the inevitable will happen one day, he will find out about you and Jungkook eventually but you’re hoping that day is not today.
Your brother drives you to the banquet where this event is held, you link arms with him as you walk across the red carpet with your beloved brother. You make an extravagant entrance but your breath and spot light is taken away by the sight of a very handsome man in a suit, he looks gorgeous, from head to toe while he holds a bouquet of purple irises, He’s wearing a black suit, with black trousers and a white shirt underneath tied together with a purple tie and purple cuff links you gifted him. You smile at him, your boyfriend, who looks at you as if the world has stopped moving, for him, you’re his miss universe, the prettiest girl to ever exist. He loves you a lot. This little encounter doesn’t go unwitnessed by your brother who so ever graciously brought you here yet he chooses to ignore it as he thinks nothing of it but just two fellow comrades exchanging smiles but little does he know how madly both you and Jungkok are in love with each other.
Jimin leaves you to get a punch for both you and him. Jungkook approaches you as he watches Jimin leave you at a table. “You look beautiful my gorgeous lady.”, Jungkook compliments you as you plant a small peck on his cheek while he hands you the bouquet. “Thank you my knight in shining armour, you look very elegant yourself.”, you compliment him back. You both smile at each other.
The drink spills on the floor ruining Jungkook’s shoes. Your eyes widen as you look at the person who has dropped his drink causing for Jungkook’s shoes to get dirty, it’s your brother Jimin, who’s looking at the both of you with an expression you cannot quite decipher but if you were to break it down; it would only indicate his wrath, his fury, his rage and his disappointment in you for breaking his trust.
Jimin furiously comes to you, while Jungkook just looks at him with a shocked expression on his face, he grabs your hand as he pulls you out of the hall and away from Jungkook.
“JIMIN! STOP YOU’RE HURTING HER!”, Jungkook yells, while Jimin ignores him and rushes out of the prom room with you in his hold. His grip tightens on your wrist as he sees Jungkook approaching you. “Brother, I-i- can explain”, you look down and cry unable to meet his eyes, “EXPLAIN WHAT HUH? that MY best-friend and my sister were having an affair behind my back????? You’ve broken my trust Y/n, how dare you date him. I’ll never approve of you two!”, Jimin screams at you earning a yelp from you as you’re scared of him.
Jungkook catches up to the both of you, “don’t get near me you traitor, you asshole, how dare you lay your filthy hands on my little sister, the only one who mattered to me, there were billions of people you could’ve fucked around with yet you had to choose my fucking sister, whom I didn’t let astray with anyone else, out of everyone??”, Jimin yells at his now former best-friend who has deeply hurt him.
“No one has betrayed you Hyung. She is a person as well, a person who is allowed to fall in love, love is not a sin, and I know you’re protective of her but I mean no harm man, trust my word, I genuinely love her, this is not me fucking around, I’m serious about her, serious enough to put a ring on her finger, even right now, if she consents to it.”, this moves you to the core as you look up to meet Jungkook’s eyes, his assurance of marrying you brims tears of happiness in your eyes. “FUCK THIS! fuck you! Do you think I’m gonna believe any man when it comes to my little sister? All men want is sex, I know this because I’m myself a man! I can’t let anyone near her, she’s too precious and naïve for our manipulative breed. I feel disgusted by this breed. I’d rather have her unmarried and stay with me forever than have her marry off to a sly pig known as a man”, Jimin yells and continues while you look down tears falling down your eyes, “She has broken my trust, she dated behind my back, she didn’t even think about letting me know about her little affair, I considered you as my best friend, yet you turned your back on me as well by dating the only person I forbade you from even looking at, you could’ve at least come clean to me about it before I found out on my own. It’s useless talking to you and her about it. I’ll ensure you’ll never see her again in your life.”, Jimin’s chest swells up with anger while Jungkook falls on his knees as he hears those words, “Please Hyung; don’t do this, we both cannot be without each other, can’t you see your possessiveness is hurting her. she’s not a child hyung, let her make her own decisions, you cannot be so anti men and because of that curb her happiness, you’re the one who is breaking her heart, making her feel guilty for this while if you were generous enough to talk to her about being cautious instead of being so over protective then maybe she would’ve come talked to you about our relationship but she knew you’d never approve of us and because she didn’t want to disrupt her relationship with the only person she loves the most in this world, she decided to hide it, she will only do what you want as long as you live and that’s the truth, even you know that, she places you over everyone but right now, you need to let go of your selfishness to keep her and let her grow, whether it may be with or without me but she deserves her independence and freedom, stop making her feel like she’s the one sabotaging her relationship with you because she’s hanging out with boys, instead tell her about your worries and concerns regarding this world and she’ll understand your insights but that is as long as you understand her point of view as well, sure she has fallen in love with me but that doesn’t mean you are of any less importance to her anymore, you’ll always be her brother so stop being so selfish because at one point it isn’t just about her safety, it’s about your selfishness to only be her number one priority in her life as well. sorry if i went overboard but i really do love her and i would say shit to you that she cannot say to you.”, Jungkook goes on a rampage making Jimin halt in his tracks while you fall down to the ground as well crying, Jimin towers over you, as you look up to him, things you’ve wanted to say to him but were afraid to do so because you thought Jimin would leave you or hate you, you finally have the courage to say the things in your heart all because of Jungkook and his resilience to all this as he wants to fight for the both of you and your relationship.
“Brother, just tell me one thing? Is falling in love with a man a crime? I know you’re overprotective of me, you’ve always been ever since I was a child, You didn’t let me play house with Namjoon, didn’t let me enjoy my high school dating life, i wanted to live like a normal teenager as well but because of your no men rule I was unable to do so, I only complied because I didn’t want to lose you and your love, But brother, I really love Jungkook, I really wanna be with him, but at the same time, no one comes over you, If I will date Jungkook, that would be now only when I receive your approval, I wanna marry him too but with your blessing over my head, two people matter to me now, just because I started loving Jungkook doesn’t mean I stopped loving you as my brother, That’s a very twisted view of love. Love is supposed to be gentle and it cannot be measured nor can you designate your love to only one person. I’ll always love you, mom and dad but now I also love Jungkook and I really want you to welcome him not just as your best friend anymore but also as your brother in law now, we three can love each other, plus I love your best friend, the only person you were able to trust out of your family so isn’t it a nice thing? you know him personally as well, you know he’d never hurt me and he cannot even think of hurting me ever, i know you know this deep within you, so please reconsider us Brother, I love and respect you a lot!”, you cry as you hug your brother.
Jimin hugs you back, which surprises you, “I guess I’ve been a bad brother all along huh? I guess I was not being protective of you, I was being selfish and greedy, Sorry Jungkook and Y/n, I should have never objected from the start, Although you both partially have my blessings, but I guess it will take some time before I unravel this and accept it, hope you both can understand, I’m sorry. Y/n, Go live your way with him, I will always love and support you, go enjoy your prom.”, Jimin says as he silently cries re-evaluating his actions which have hurt you along the way. You go in for a hug and say, “you may not be the most perfect brother in the world, but you’ll always be the best brother for me.”, Jimin smiles at you as you say that and kisses your forehead endearingly. Jungkook joins you both in the hug, “Sorry hyung, I promise I’ll never hurt her or even think of hurting her.”, Jungkook says to which Jimin replies, “the day you even think of hurting her, I’ll bury you alive.”, the three of you laugh.
Later that evening, after you’re done dancing with your brother, he gently hands you over to Jungkook for a slow dance.
Jungkook looks at you while your bodies move in a similar rhythm to beautiful soulful melodies. You both are grateful to have met each other and it shows as you both gaze lovingly in each other’s eyes.
“I love you Jungkook, you’re my world”, you say gently, “I love you Y/n, you’re my everything, my iris.”, he gives you this nickname, your heart flutters hearing this, you gently take his lips into yours, kissing him as he kisses you back, pouring his adoration for you. He gushes over how you’re all his. He would love to call you his wife one day but till then and forever…
You’ll always remain ‘his iris’

"Chief, I've come to a conclusion."
"Mmm?"
"I believe this baby and I are spiritual cousins. We can commune on a metaphysical level. Just look at her great head of hair."
Bringing a six month old infant to a police station is not exactly what her mother-in-law would call orthodox parenting, but the nanny cancelled last minute, and, if Karen is being truthful, there's a limit to the number of hours she can go in a row without having her daughter close by.
It's also true, Karen has to admit, that Iris was born with a fully-thatched head of thick dark curls.
"Don't drop her, please," is all she says, signing at the bottom of yet another ream of paperwork. To say it had surprised her when Shawn Spencer spent the better part of the last hour after her ten a.m. briefing hovering above her desk and pretending very hard like he had no interest at all in holding a baby is an understatement. Whatever cool detachment and casual flippancy he’d used to flirt around her office with previously is now gone, and Karen observes with no small measure of bemusement the fluttery look of mesmerized fascination on his face while he stands, shockingly still, with her unusually quiet and peaceful baby nestled only slightly awkwardly in the crook of his arm.
"Boss," Shawn starts again after another blessed minute of silence, his eyes still glued to the baby. "You gotta level with me here. Does Mr. Vick get more attention from womankind when he goes out with the stroller?"
"I'm going to have to ask that you don't make me consider the possibility, Mr. Spencer."
She signs another document.
"Aw, come on. Chicks love it when a man is on the same mental wavelength as kids. That's why I worked at a summer camp for six months, you know."
She has always wondered whether Shawn has experience working with children; there was that one horrible suicide case a few weeks ago that left a little girl in foster care, and the three hours she spent at the station that could have been miserable for all involved were mostly occupied instead by elaborate games of i Spy and – inexplicably – bananagrams. Shawn had claimed the game was a staple feature of Gus’s work backpack.
Not entirely unbelievable, Karen admits.
"Mmm," is all she says now, flipping to her next page serenely. Iris coos. Shawn stares at her in awe and lets her suck on his probably-unclean pinky.
She doesn't grimace, because when she looks up it's to the sight of Detective O'Hara frozen behind the glass door to her office, an expression on her face akin to a limpid-eyed doe caught in the throes of a cotton-candy-flavored swoon. If the door were open Karen thinks that they’d probably hear a squeak. She watches Juliet catch herself, turn on her heel, and scamper back to her desk.
Karen sighs; she probably was going to deliver a much needed report on the Lamden case.
She needs that report, dammit.
"Mr. Spencer," she says cooly, internally lamenting the imminent loss of her free baby soother. "Don't you have a murderer to catch?"
"Hm?" says Shawn, nasally. Iris has grabbed ahold of his nose and is burbling softly.
"The dead girl from this morning?"
"Oh, yeah," Shawn says, sounding like a cartoon character. "The boyfriend did it."
"Concrete evidence, if it won't be too much trouble, Mr. Spencer."
He rolls his eyes, but Iris is deposited carefully back into her bassinet. She hiccups. Shawn salutes and skips away. As Karen expected, Detective O'Hara reappears exactly a minute later, clutching case files to her chest and looking only a little bit more dreamy-eyed than usual.
"If you could leave the Lamden report on my desk, Detective," Karen starts without looking up, and, when Juliet, too, begins to hover, hides another pleased grin.
Perhaps this wasn’t the worst idea she’d ever had, after all.

Chapter 5 of the Iris/Carlos fic coming tomorrow.
-
She gets a better look at her date while their parents swoon. Carlos’s hair is combed over to one side and styled neatly, one stray curl escaping the prison of hair gel and laying against the side of his forehead. He’s wearing a tuxedo with a satin navy vest underneath – it complements the color of her dress, even though they hadn’t planned it. Iris knows some of her classmates coordinated outfits with their dates and she probably should have done the same, but she’d forgotten until it was too late and Carlos was telling her he’d already picked a tux to rent. It makes her smile to think that they’d ended up coordinating anyway by accident.
“Carlos,” Mr. Reyes says, nudging his son on the shoulder.
“Oh, right,” Carlos says. He holds up a small cardboard box that Iris hadn’t noticed was in his hand, fingers slipping once before he can carefully open it.
She looks down. Inside is a wrist corsage, white flower petals held together with shiny silver ribbon.
“I know it’s cheesy,” Carlos says, sounding sheepish.
“It’s tradition,” Mrs. Reyes contradicts, smiling at Theresa. “It’s not as big as the one Gabriel gave to me at our prom, Carlos thought Iris wouldn’t want something quite so showy.”
Something warm swells in Iris’s stomach. Reminded of how well Carlos knows her, she smiles at him, wishing that if she only keeps locked on his brown eyes everything else could melt away. “It’s pretty, thank you.”
“You don’t have to wear it if you don’t want to,” Carlos assures, his cheeks tinged in peachy pink and the wrinkle present at the top of his nose.
“I want to.” Iris smiles at him again and holds up her left hand, resolutely ignoring the cooing from their parents as Carlos gently removes the corsage from the box and ties it around her wrist.

OC Insight: What Kind of Love Are You?
Take this uquiz as your OC and share your result!
thank you @khywren for tagging me because this uquiz has me WRECKED ✨
Tumblr media
Love as the Dawn
Pastel, saccharine and hopeful, your love rises slow to greet the day. It tiptoes on doe feet and blossoms bit by bit, petal by petal. Love is new to you, isn’t it? A fresh discovery in a world you do not quite understand. Your love loves with bated breaths. Your love swoons and sighs and lingers under awnings. Your love romanticizes. Your love aches as tenderly as a bruise. You’re swollen with desire and idealizations. The perfect kiss, the perfect touch, the perfect partner in life. Your love is wide-eyed and innocent, naive and pristine and oh, so very easily breakable. Being loved by you is to be loved by a child, by a lamb, wooly-eyed and helpless. Oh. I really hope it lasts.
I mean I guess this is a pretty decent match. It's not like the series name for to eden is 'at first light', or like I've written multiple act 3 romance scenes that take place at dawn containing two idiots together under beauty of a new sun as it rises over them in their shared affection.
It’s not like I’m writing about two absolute fools learning how to love and enjoy the beauty of intimacy or how precious devotion can be or anything like that.
Definitely has nothing to do with how they fall in love under the cover of the darkness but their love blossoms into something to be held softly during the sanctity of dawn, as fresh and ephemeral like morning dew on the petals of an iris.
Not at all.
Couldn’t be me.
(Don’t worry they'll still bitch at each other, they will just be holding hands while they do it 🌷)
ANYWAY I'm going to taggggg @elinorbard @ladyduellist @inkymoonbunny @xxnashiraxx @preciouslittlebhaalbae and literally anyone else who sees this and wants to do it because tbh this quiz is amazing

Part 1 ✨ Part 2 ✨ Part 3 ✨ Part 4
Tumblr media
To you it was a regular Friday night, you'd just finished work and you were heading through the hustle and bustling streets of London with your colleague. Pub Friday was a heavy reoccurrence, much needed after a long week of 9 to 5, it was the only excuse you had to let your hair down and tonight you'd planned to head over to a newish bar that had opened just shy of a few weeks ago, a huge recommendation by one of your other work friends saying that they'd been and it was a pretty decent place to go to.
Truth be told it was tiresome going to the same place every time, seeing the same faces drowning their sorrows in their drinks, the same couples having the same boring arguments and the same old men staring at you from their non owned and practically unreserved tables in the corner of the room.
You move through the double doors which lead into the unfamiliar space, quieter than what you're used to to say the least. You're faced with the beautiful scenery of a long bar, shelved behind it are at least 100 different bottles of spirits. Tables sprouted around the large room with borderline fancy décor set around the walls to compliment them, it was a vision to behold, a pretty penny had clearly gone into this business and it showed, you were truly mesmerised by the care that was given from a clear renovation, that was until he caught your eye.
Originally he'd had his back turned to you and was nothing but a shadow in your field of vision but the moment you caught a glimpse of his side profile, you almost felt a sudden state of nausea, a strange attraction to someone you'd only spent checking out for practically a millisecond. Then he looked over, it all happened in slow motion. You and your colleague still stood in the doorway like a couple of idiots. The bartender smirked a grin your way, welcoming but intimidating all the same.
"Welcome ladies." The most beautiful sound you'd ever heard came out of him, it was simple yet effective enough to have you swooning, your friend had elbowed you back into reality by the time she'd caught your jaw falling to the floor.
Your friend dragged you over to the bar, the mysterious man was drying down a couple of glasses previously owned by customers which had been handed in once they were leaving.
"How do you like my place?" his eyes remained on you, it was like your soul was being ripped apart by his retinas and he'd stolen all ability for you to even respond.
"It's nice here yeah." Your friend spoke for you, removing his eye contact you for the first time since he'd spotted the two of you at the front of he bar.
"This is your bar?" You said it in a way so sarcastic that you made him scoff. Nice one. His eyes rolled back to find your features reflecting through the beautiful brown colours that sparkled in his iris, a slight darkness added to them through the dimmed lighting, was that intentional or not because it only seemed to be clear enough to see when he was looking right at you.
"It's my bar indeed darling, what or who were you expecting?" The skilful chat this man had in giving you back the response you had quickly spirted out and alighted what looked like an irritation in him. Your thumbs twiddled together as you perched yourself onto the stool next to you, unnerved and excited.
"Never mind." He shook his head. "The name's Joe. What can I get you?"
You both ordered yourselves a large glass of white wine, offering the money over to Joe before he smacked your hand away.
"This ones on me." You tried to offer it again, an almost silent refusal that you would be paying for the drinks you'd been given. Joe took the £10 note out of your hand and put his hands under the bar, acting as though he was fumbling around under there, making himself look busy, slight confusion hit you when his hands eventually came back to eye view he was cupping a pint glass which had the note he'd just taken from you firmly rolled inside of it.
"I said this one's on me." You bit back on your laughter, taking out the money from the glass and slipping it back into your bag, accepting defeat, sipping on your wine you offer him a warm smile, his lips were firmly pressed into a line, you couldn't exactly read him very well, he played a poker face that you couldn't quite shake. You were subdued and it had only been 10 minutes in his company.
Your friend made it feel the most awkward of moments when she announced she was going to the toilet and left you alone with him, luckily he got to serving someone else so by the time he was done, she'd probably be back, but obviously to your bitter disappointment that wasn't the case and Joe was straight back over to you, arms leaning against the bar as he bent down to meet you at your level, the towel he was once cleaning the glasses with now lazily laid over his shoulder like an accessory. There was something so soft about his features, something so brutally innocent which lead you to believe that it was all a façade with the tone in his voice when speaking to you, a completely dissociated difference.
"So you never told me your name?" Why in this stupid time and place did you forget your own name, did you mean to stutter through the saliva that was circulating quickly, stumbling over your own tongue.
"It's uh- it's Y/N."
"Pretty name for a pretty lady." That made you bite your lip and he for sure noticed, his eyes made their own way to watch you do it, his own world now moving in slow motion from the deep breath he partook in once you'd shot the flirtatious body language back at him.
"Did you mean to do that?" Your cheeks released a flush of deep red, realising that you'd actually just done that to a complete stranger, a stranger you were obviously completely hot for.
"I bet you say that to all the girls." You felt like you'd knocked him for six with your response, you were in sudden guard of attempting to faulter his clear confidence in talking to women. It didn't work.
"Only when I mean it." Your friend saved the day when you felt her presence right back at your side again, he shot a wink at you and walked away to serve someone who'd just come through the door.
You completely drowned out the conversation you were clearly not involved in with your friend, watching everything that Joe was doing so intricately, he looked so beautiful doing the simplest of things and that was so threatening to you, your heart and head were speaking completely different languages at this point. Even if this was the first time you'd met him, you were to make sure it wouldn't be the last because there was something about him and you knew yourself, once you were intrigued by something or someone; you were determined to find out.
With the bar getting slightly busier through the evening, he was pre occupied elsewhere, the glances were often yet short, shotting the last one of your wine you left without saying goodbye, imagining his disappointment and creating a fantasy for yourself of him feeling cast down that you'd left so quickly without getting to know him. Why were you kidding yourself? He probably wouldn't of remembered you the next time you went in anyway, but your imagination was throwing that version of future events to the side because it wasn't just a normal look you'd been given, that wasn't how normal hello's were exchanged. You were probably overthinking the whole ordeal, but you had to go back and see. If he remembered, then your heart was right, if he didn't your head was just playing tricks on you, the first option sounded better but the second was probably more feasible.
You prepared yourself for the boring Saturday evening up and coming close, no plans made you took the spontaneity that was lingering in your every being to get ready and go to the bar, after all the mystery man named Joe was all you could muster to think about.
You dressed up to the nines for someone that probably wouldn't shoot their eyes your way again. Not something you'd usually do since your anxiety ridden body wouldn't normally let you, but there was a form of excitement in you so powerful that kept you going for tonight, it would probably be deflated as soon as you found out you were wrong and foolish for going back for the reasons you were and for all intense and purposes you made sure you were to stand out from the crowd.
Entering the bar, it was slightly busier than the previous day, the weekend truly in force and the people of London ready to party until the early hours of the morning. You suddenly felt out of place, all alone in the middle of a bar attempting to see the man who only flirted with you for all of half an hour yesterday, there were more staff located behind the bar, you wandered over, eyes prying all over the place just to even witness a peak of him.
Both a hot and cold sweat came over you when you couldn't see him, all but a crowd of bodies scattered around the room, you felt slightly dizzy in your wake and moved over to step to the front door, quickly deciding it was probably better to give this a miss and accepting you were probably wrong in what you'd been thinking for the last 24 hours. Before you even put your hand on the door, you felt a hand grip to your arm, pulling you towards them with brute force, swerving yourself around to take a look, a slightly older man stood before you, immediately looking you up and down, making your whole body shudder and not the good kind. He leaned down into your ear.
"Lost?"
"No I was just leaving, was trying to find my friend."
"I'll be your friend, come have a drink with me."
"I'm good thanks."
His grip had remained on your arm, you'd attempted to step back but the wall had gotten in the way and you suddenly felt trapped.
"Come on. I won't take no for an answer, one drink."
"I said no, thank you." You tried to be as polite as you could before you were on your way to losing your tether, moving your hand over his you attempted to get him off you, but he squeezed tighter. What kind of creep does this in this day and age, the obvious answer was the entitled pricks that thought they were gods gift to women and didn't like nor understand the word no.
His other hand brushed your hair off of your shoulder, making you squirm disgustingly from his calloused fingers.
"Please let me go."
"When you have a drink with me."
You began to panic when all at once, time and space moved in the blink of an eye and the man was pulled backwards by your now knight in shining armour. You looked up to see Joe, clinging to his shoulders, ragging him towards him, instantly releasing you, you gazed down at the red marks from the way his hand had held you so tightly.
"She said no, mate. Think it's time you were leaving, think you've had enough." The man stormed out in a huff after looking at the seriousness of the pupils that were dilating Joe's eyes from the spout of anger of seeing someone handle a woman in that way; the wrong way.
"Thank you." You felt Joe's hand move over to inspect what could of only been described as a minor injury to your skin, his thumb soothed over making goose bumps reappear over his strokes.
"You're welcome pretty girl. What brings you back here?"
"Just for a drink."
"Alone?" Joe raised an eyebrow, that same shit smirk hitting his lips which made you feel pure infuriation yet made you want to jump him.
"Alone."
"To see me more like." You gulped your saliva back, a heavy breath inhaled when you felt him move closer to you.
"In your dreams." You rolled your eyes.
"No darling, in yours." Joe glared at your movement, taking your hand and bringing you over to the bar.
"So what will it be? Wine?"
"A shot of tequila bar boy."
Joe barked laughter at you, taking out two shot glasses and pouring the lethal spirit into them.
"Two?"
"Cheers Y/N." You picked up your glass, clinking them together you took the shot in unison. The burn felt good at this point but all your brain could muster was that he remembered you. Your heart was pounding and you couldn't even decipher word in the English language to describe how you were feeling right now.
"Before you go and try handing me the cash again, I've got a better idea." You were so predictable to him by this point, you felt instant defeat because your next move would of been to find the money to pay him for the shot. Intrigued by his words, you took a deep breath again, completely wrapped around his little finger to find out what he meant by that.
"Okay?"
"Just to put it out there, you're really fucking attractive darling." He leaned further, your faces inches away from each other. "I know you came here to see me again. I know the feelings mutual. You give me your number and once I get off work tomorrow, you come here and I'll show you what you came for tonight." He moved back, tapping his fingers against the bar. An offer, is that what it was?
Pulling out his phone, he offered it to you to tap your phone into the keypad. You were too flustered and shaky to even respond by this point, but you did it any way. This guy could of been anyone, but you really needed to explore his proposal, after all it's not everyday you feel this down for someone so quickly, you're not losing out either way.
"Good girl." Joe saved your number into his phone. His way with words had you tingling in every crevice of your body, you weren't sure if it was the tequila making you feel this way or whether it was the way he clouded your thoughts with his fiery look.
"Do I get to find out what's happening tomorrow?"
"All in good time."
The bar had gotten even busier by the time you'd managed to look away from him since you'd got to the bar with Joe. He was pulled to the side by one of his employees and when he came back he had a look of annoyance in his face, made softer once again when he saw you sat minding your own business.
"You going to be okay getting home?"
"Yeah, fine. I'm a big girl, I can handle myself." You rolled your eyes again.
"We'll see about that."
"Is that a threat or a promise?" You bit your lip.
You felt his throat strain, a low grunt emerging.
"We'll see." His game was being played twice as hard as yours, you could of cut the tension with a knife.
Joe's hand came up to tuck your hair behind your ear, leaning down he placed a brief kiss on your cheek, the sensation travelled to your core and you were suddenly hooked.
Fuck.
"Until tomorrow." Joe moved away slowly, the now familiar smirk crossing your line of vision once more.
Double fuck.

"Hello, my love," I hear a voice speak before I feel a hand on my shoulder.
I lean against the touch then feel a kiss on the top of my head. I perk and look up at my affection giver, my Dream, returning the soft smile on his face with a toothy grin, "hello, my love."
He makes a chair appear beside me then sits down, "what is it today?" he asks, as if he doesn't already know the answer.
I turn to the book in my hand that was propped on the table, then back to the Dreaming's king, practically buzzing in excitement as I answer, "an untitled and unpublished manuscript of Jane Austen's work."
Dream chuckles as I bare my teeth and shake my head rapidly, "it's soooo good!" I squeal, "but I'm so scared to read the end because I know it's not finished."
The sound of my chair squeaking closer to Dream echoes in the expanse of the library, "did you know there are typos in this?!"
"I do," he purses his lips and hums, "has it made for difficult reading?"
"Absolutely not!" I exclaim, "if anything I feel more honored to be one of the very few who has access to this."
"Well, I am glad you are enjoying it, dearest," he says, eyes barely crinkling in delight.
Absolutely hypnotized by the blue of his iris and the black of his liner, I pout at him and rest my head on my hand. I pull away from my book and caress his cheeks. I retrace the curves of his face as I swoon, "you're so pretty-"
His nostrils flare in amusement.
"-but not enough to get away with the fact you didn't inspire Austen to finish this story."
Dream lifts his brows and finds challenge in those words, especially when I withdraw my touch, "oh? Is that so?"
I sigh and nod, pushing the book away, opting to divert my full attention onto him, as well as to slide onto his lap.
The king makes for a comfortable throne, especially with how one hand snaked around my back and another pulled me close by my thighs. I nod curtly at him and fake disappointment as I fiddle with his collar, "you're going to have to make it up to me somehow."
It seems the whole of his domain laughs, as he does, at my words. The vibrations make me squeeze my thighs tightly.
"Tis I that should do such a thing?" he questions, voice loud and laced with disbelief. He leans down, brushing his the tip of nose against my cheek, "your king?"
I hum, turning to him to brush my nose with his as I nod, "mmhmm."
Dream brushes his hand on my thigh all the way up to my cheek. He tilts my face up to him. His lips ghost over mine, hot breath leaving me with goosebumps, "if you can plead your case to me well enough, perhaps I would be inclined to grant you satisfaction in your twisted justice seeking."
I bite my lower lip and press my hands on his shoulders. He watches as I shift and straddle him, "you might not handle taking me to a court room, your honor," I capture his cheeks in my hand, "so I humbly suggest we take this to the bedroom instead?"
I nibble on his lip and grind down on him. When I pull away and grin at him, he digs his fingers into my thigh. His eyes were blown and his lips remained parted.
I giggle, "well, if you keep looking at me like that, we're not going to get a bed fast, my love."
Before I could even kiss him, I hear someone clear their throat from behind. It effectively makes my heart drop.
"Lucienne," I blurt, ready to jump off Dream at the sight of the librarian's repulsed and dirty look. I quickly shove myself off her boss.
Dream is not having it though, and roughly tuts me. I turn to him as he forces me still, and feel my mouth goes twice as dry at his dark expression.
The very next moment, we were no longer sitting in the library and snuggly positioned atop a bed.
"I do not appreciate your actions, lover" he mutters with venom, eyes dark.
"But Lucienne-"
"Enough," he bites, pushing his face closer to mine, "I will not hear anyone else's name. You are pleading to me, are you not?"
I would have been scared had I not seen through his sharp teeth and missed his sulky expression. I deflate against him and kiss his cheek sweetly, "yes, daddy."
All the while Lucienne walks over to where the unspeakable incident was supposed to happen and grabs the forgotten book on the table. She scoffs, "in front of Austen? And an unpublished one at that. I-"

❤️⇢ What is your favorite Eris ship and why?
Azris. I love the idea of them. Of the things in each other they could help heal. I love that they'd have the enemies to friends to lovers arc. I love the tense it would create within the Inner circle.
I also think it would create a perfect twist to Azriel and Mor's relationship. Two people having been in hiding of who they are, Azriel having known the whole time, yet pursuing Mor as a way of protecting them both.
🔗⇢ Share a link to one of your favorite Eris creations from another creator!
I will never skip an opportunity to talk to about this fic. Spirit Meets the Bones by @lucienarcheron. When I tell you all this is the quality of writing I wish I had, I mean it. The story telling, the chemistry between Eris and Iris, the banter. There isn't one thing about this series that doesn't make me swoon. If this was published as a book, I'd own it in a hardcover, an annotated paperback, a lending to friends paperback, and every single piece of fanart or dust jacket made would be displayed It is my addiction. I think about it almost daily.

A Formidable Pair: Part 2

Warnings: none
Word Count: 1094

Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5
---------------------------
Despite the leash on your temper, it threatened to boil over as you trailed behind the Shadowsinger and out into the courtyard, rage simmering in your blood at the gawking faces of your new spies.
“Get in formation,” you snapped, eyes slowly adjusting to the bright sunshine blanketing the fighting pit. “This is Azriel, Spymaster for the Night Court. He will be training you all on proper sword and blade-yielding.”
At the sound of his name, his head snapped towards you, eyebrows slightly raised and wings spread out.
You almost rolled your eyes at his surprise. Did he really think you were that stupid? That you wouldn’t have researched him, his High Lord and their entire little inner circle before their arrival?
He had to be an idiot.
The midafternoon sun provided a comforting warmth, allowing you to shed off the outermost layer of your training armor. You stalked over to the corner of the yard, letting the Shadowsinger take the reigns and lead the session.
Sharpening, cleaning and polishing your blades and swords would be a better use of time than letting some arrogant Illyrian male tell you how to wield your weapons.
You gazed up at him, only to find his eyes pinned on you.
You don’t want to learn from a master? they seemed to taunt.
Your glare was answer enough. He turned away to one of the novices gushing at his side, and your blood began to heat again at the sight of his massive hands around Calista’s as she held her wooden practice blade, the blush slowly creeping on her tanned cheeks.
Foolish idiots. All of them. He must think every female he encountered would swoon and bat her lashes for him. But given his status in the Night Court, he was probably used to it.
It didn’t matter what he thought. This was your territory. You wouldn’t grovel or feed into his male ego.
The sound of clashing wood had your curiosity sparking. Luna, one of the faster learners, was already sparring with him. You hated yourself for it, but a tiny part of you couldn’t blame the trainees—the Shadowsinger moved like liquid night in the sun.
Swift and precise, brutal and unyielding in his moves, he danced across the training ring, expertly wielding his blades and sword, his warrior’s arrogance flowing through his movements like ink in water. Wrath and wicked delight shone on his face as he progressed through the motions, showcasing his talents on the makeshift battlefield.
“He’s like a gods-damned creature. Like he was built for this.”
You whipped your head in the direction of the soft feminine voice to find Iris at your side, eyes glued to the Shadowsinger.
“He’s as good as any other spy or warrior,” you snarled back.
Iris turned to you, amusement alight in her sparkling blue eyes.
“Why don’t you go spar with him, then?”
Again, that rage bubbled in your blood.
Slowly turning your head to hers, you seethed, “What?”
She clamped down on her lips to keep from smiling. You got as close to her face as you dared.
“Newbie spies in-training don’t give orders around here.”
She simply nodded her head in agreement.
Although… Maybe she had a point. It wouldn’t hurt to show the stupid, swaggering bastard his place. You were more than confident in your skills.
Stealth, obedience, discipline, brutality, lethality.
You would let him continue to show off for the girls, tire himself out, before approaching.
--------------------------
Hours passed by until the afternoon sun gave way to a low orange and pink sunset. The trainees appeared to be exhausted but somehow still had the energy to keep asking Azriel for more help refining their technique. Pathetic, boot-licking idiots.
“That’s enough for today,” you said, the words sounding as harsh as you intended. The spies finished their stretches, likely biding their time to keep marveling at the Shadowsinger.
Azriel remained on the other end of the training ring, cleaning and polishing his own blades, twirling Truth Teller casually about. And continuing to ignore your presence.
The infamous Truth Teller. You had heard the legendary stories of the blade by which the Spymaster of the Night Court got his enemies to confess.
His dark night-black hair glittered in the glow of the dipping sun. He was handsome, you had to admit. But still a brooding, hulking brute.
As if he could read your mind, his eyes flickered to yours. He stared at you with predatory focus, shadows flickering in his hazel eyes and curling around his muscular arms. His enormous wings were near-glowing, a faint iridescence sparkling in the dusky sun.
You stared right back. A challenge.
With your best arrogant warrior’s swagger, you sauntered up to him, hips swaying with animalistic pride.
“Care for a one-on-one, Shadowsinger?”
His harsh, unforgiving face revealed nothing—no gleam of emotion, no hint of warmth or feeling.
Nothing but the nearly 7-foot staggeringly powerful and ancient male.
With lethal softness, he said, “Are you sure you’re ready for that?”
Wrath. Primal wrath coated your blood and bones at his ridiculing tone. As if you were no more than one of the trainees ogling at him for the past afternoon.
Your lip curled back as you flashed your teeth in a wolfish grin.
You didn’t give him the respect of an answer. You just unstrapped and tossed your blades and swords to the side. Yes, you would do this like a true warrior.
A wicked, feral gleam sparked in his golden-hazel eyes, fixed on your every movement. Surely, he wasn’t expecting you to challenge him in hand-to-hand combat, but he seemed to welcome the surprise as he unstrapped his assortment of weapons and peeled off his jacket, shoulder pads, and…
His gloves.
You reigned in your shock at the gnarled, burnt skin of his hands. Cooling your features into neutrality, you had to refrain from thinking about what kind of cruel, vicious enemies he had encountered to receive such atrocious scars. Tried not to think about what kind of darkness the male across from you had survived.
You met his stare again, only to find icy determination in his eyes.
Azriel shifted closer, a fluid movement limned with restrained power. He didn’t bother crouching into a defensive stance. Didn’t bother with theatrics as he waited for you to make the first move.
You silenced your thoughts, letting your wrath for his pomposity become a song in your blood.
You reminded yourself: you are light, you are air, you are grace.
And then you lunged for the Illyrian.

Clone MarcNath AU
This is an AU of Miraculous Ladybug where Nathaniel is the clone of Vincent Van Gogh, and Marc is the clone of Edgar Allan Poe.
The Sinister Board of Shadowy Figures decided to focus on making only one clone for the next generation, making another of Van Gogh. They sent him to France with Aya and Eli, his caretakers. He decided that he didn’t want to be called Vincent, and changed his name to Nathaniel.
Of course, they made sure he wasn't alone, and sent his boyfriend a clone of Edgar Allan Poe who changed his name to Marc. Their job would be to observe the future Miraculous Team, but the boys decided "screw that" and just lived out their days as high school students.
They write and draw angsty stuff and live their likes all cynical and stuff like some cool emos. Marc Allen Poe likes to leave haunting messages in peoples lockers for the hell of it just to see how they’ll react, and Nath Van Gogh has trouble hearing due to missing a left ear.
You can find them brooding around the school, or making out as gothic music plays from their phones.
Nathaniel was born without a left ear, and hides this fact by covering it with his hair.
Marc can recite the entire Edgar Allen Poe part of ERB's rap battle on command.
Marc: Once upon a midnight dreary, as I spit this weak and weary, I will choke this joker with a trochee till his cheeks are teary! (Nathaniel swoons)
Marc calls Nathaniel his Starry Iris, and Nathaniel calls Marc his Blood Raven. Juleka and Ivan are their besties.
Marc: I love you, my dark Raven.
Nathaniel: What?! Marc: I said I love you!
Nathaniel: Thanks! I am using a new shampoo!
Marc: Oh, for the love of- *Turns Nath’s head around* I love you!
Nathaniel: You don’t have to shout. But I love you, too.
And there you have it! Me and Artzy came up with the info, and thank you so much to them for doing so. As always, make sure to reblog, reply, post and ask for more thoughts on the content. @artzychic27 @msweebyness

This story idea has been turning around in my head, but I don't know if I'll write it. I just wanted to get it out in the open here:
Boa Hancock just rolls up to Karai Bari one day, with a little black-haired girl with golden eyes in tow, about 6 or 7 years old. Suddenly, Mihawk is sweating bullets because he's thinking back to that fling he and Hancock had several years ago when they were both sad and lonely one time.
He doesn't understand. He used protection and Hancock explicitly told him she had no intention of becoming pregnant (she was too busy and pretty for that).
Hancock sees his panic and right away tells him, "No. She's not ours. But she is related to you."
The girl has the exact same iris mutation that Mihawk possesses. She's trembling but refuses to show any more fear than that. He and the child stare each other down without blinking. Clearly, she's related to him.
Hancock decided to bring her here because after the Dissolution of the Warlords, she could no longer guarantee the child's safety. The World Government is going to assume that she is Mihawk's daughter just by looking at her, and will hunt her down. Hancock firmly tells the bewildered swordsman, "She has better chances under the watchful eyes of her uncle who serves a Yonko rather than a normal band of pirates."
After that explanation from Hancock, Mihawk has two revelations. One, his deadbeat brother is still alive somehow and managed to charm a warrior from Amazon Lily. And two, he needs to make a decision whether he's capable of raising his niece because Buggy is already swooning over his "New Best Friend!" and is about to turn this child into a menace.

Eating a breakfast burrito with a hot coffee in the middle of snowy Central Park was definitely something on your unwritten bucket list. Something that was too odd, too specific, to actually put onto paper.
But this.
This was the gentle gift of life.
You figured the super soldier beside you was thinking the same. Bundled in multiple layers and with a large coffee tucked near his chest, Bucky Barnes stared up at the sky. Soaking up whatever beams of sunlight bursting through the clouds. It wasn’t actively snowing, but the coldness was evident by the red of his nose.
There were barely any people around. Just the typical joggers and healthy commuters. You could hear the sirens from one direction and music blasting from the other. Typical New York morning.
Except, today, you had a companion.
Two, actually. Bucky named him Axel, named after the Father of Peace. They were practically inseparable yesterday, and Bucky did not hesitate to adopt the elder German shepherd.  He stuck his nose deeper into the doggy blanket, especially grateful for the sweater that kept his hips warm. Bucky hadn’t batted one eye when the shelter worker had told him Axel had arthritis in his hips. He had paid for the medication, stopped by the pet store, and purchased everything known to man that accompanied a pet.
Blankets, sweaters, a bed, food bowls, treats and food, even a damn raincoat.
You would have swooned if you could have stopped laughing from how serious Bucky was being. And good for him—having a pet made a human healthier. Less lonely.
Maybe adopting wasn’t such a tedious thing.
Bucky Barnes was now your companion. He officially accepted you yesterday, saying that you two could truly help each other. You, the money. Him, getting used to touch again. The experiment with the dogs was one thing, but he had plans to step it up a level. By the end of your time together, you figure you’ll be able to hold his hand.
“So,” you started, dusting your fingers of invisible crumbs. “You’ve accepted my services. We’re acquaintances now. Lay out the rules, Bucky Barnes.”
Bucky smiled gently, looking down at the top of Axel’s head as he did so. “I want to start with the feeling. Like, soft touches.”
You hummed, pulling your gloves back on. Looking around the park, you debated risking hypothermia for the next part. Tugging off your boots and socks, you made sure Bucky was watching as you extended both feet off the blanket, running them through the tips of the grass. The tendrils tickled and the frozen dew pricked, but it was necessary.
“See? Do this. Imagine the grass hair to be tiny, little hands. Grabbing at your tiny, little toes.”
Bucky snorted quietly, but listened to your directions. He took his sweet time as you stomped and rolled your ankles, warming yourself the best you could. He stretched a long leg into the grass, spreading his toes and testing the waters.
“Do the hands feel nice?”
“The hands feel nice.”
Axel moaned softly, rolling over onto his back. You stared at the dog in amusement, then at Bucky, whose eyes glimmered at the dog just the same.
“Can my toe touch your toe?”
If he was uncomfortable with that question, he didn’t show it. Instead, it looked like he was trying to hold in the loudest laugh. How else were you supposed to phrase that question? But making the soldier laugh, well, that had to be a major plus.
“We can try.”
You nodded, scooting closer on the blanket. Bucky leaned his shoulders away on instinct, but he caught himself. You didn’t want to make him too uncomfortable, but he did need to learn to remind himself that danger was not present. That danger can be avoidable during sweet moments.
You moved your leg over, watching his right foot remain perfectly still. Closer, giving him time to back out if need be, until your feet left but a gap. Bucky released a heavy breath, shutting his eyes for a moment.
“You know, I got my dad’s feet. Man didn’t give me much of an allowance or words of wisdom growing up, but he did bless me with these goddamn toes.”
Bucky’s eyes snapped open, and he practically broke his neck turning to face you. His lips twitched, involuntarily splitting into a grin, before he burst out laughing. You didn’t touch him yet. You were too mesmerized by the sound and length of his neck to continue your quest.
“You have nice toes,” he commented, wiping at his beard.
“With nail polish, yes. See me without it and you’ll be singing a different tune.”
Slowly, you tipped your foot and rested your pinkie toe against his. Bucky sucked in a breath, staring, paralyzed.
“Good?”
Bucky grimaced quickly. “Sort of.”
You moved your foot, wiggling your toes. “You can ask me questions too, you know?”
“Have I not asked you questions?”
“Eh. But I know you’re wondering why I do this. They all do.”
Bucky frowned again, scrunching his nose a little. “I wasn’t wondering why you did it. You said you do it by choice. I’m not going to question that. I guess… I want to know what attracted you to it.”
There was some difference in the questions, but it was still the same question. It was considerate of him to phrase it nicely, however. “I left my hometown behind. I came here to New York like a twenty-year old idiot and thought, ‘Working retail or fast food is going to pay my rent’.”
You wanted a new place to live, a new place to exist. Was it so bad to want something so extreme? It wasn’t so bad the first few months. But as the bills started piling up and the lonelier you got, you had to seek alternative routes.
“I met a woman named Lainey. She lived a few doors down from me and we always got coffee at the same time each morning. She told me about the escort business, how this website was truthful and all that. So I tried it.”
Bucky handed you back your socks. You slipped them back on, continuing your story. “My first client didn’t ask for sex. I just went with him to an office party. The second canceled after I had already bought a dress for this huge banquet ball. But the third…”
Bucky froze as he, too, tugged on his socks.
“He didn’t tell me he wanted sex. We went on a date, and then he asked me for it. I said no, but he offered me two thousand dollars. I needed that money, Bucky.”
You swallowed hard as you zipped up your boots. “So I did it. And I cried the entire time. After that, Lainey told me that I have to make sure they explicitly say what they want in their messages. That the private messages were a contract. Since then, I haven’t slept with anyone I didn’t want to.”
“Lainey sounds like a pistol.”
You chuckled. “Yeah. She was.”
“Was?”
You shrugged, suddenly sad. “She never told anyone she had cancer.”
Axel whimpered softly, kicking his leg gently on your stomach. You grinned down at him, rubbing your gloved hand across his fur. “Lainey loved dogs. I was going to take in her dog after she died, but I ran into her mother as she was cleaning out Lainey’s apartment. That woman needed the dog more than me.”
“I’m sorry about Lainey.”
You were sorry about Lainey, too. How long has it been since you spoke about her? Since someone besides Lainey entered your apartment?
“I’ve come to love this job. I’ve learned to navigate it. I don’t recommend it unless someone genuinely has questions, but they never do. They always bring it up like it’s a joke.”
“Was Lainey your best friend?”
“In the city? I suppose.”
“You would think, in a world full of aliens and superheroes, we would have found the cure for cancer by now.”
You snorted out a laugh, turning to face him. But he was looking down at his own hand, mere inches from yours. Pinkies just a small distance away.
“How did it feel discovering the cure for smallpox?” You moved your pinkie just a little, getting closer.
“Considering they founded the vaccine in 1796, I wouldn’t know.” His pinkie inched closer, too.
“I meant polio, then.”
His finger paused, and Bucky’s shoulder crumbled. He pulled back, sighing deeply. “Polio vaccine came out in 1955. Don’t really remember, but I know Hydra shot me up with it.”
You had a sudden urge to twist your own neck. Even though you had no idea that would trigger a memory,  you had to assume that mentioning things like that would get some reaction out of him. Is it entirely your fault? No. It’s Hydra’s. But could you have been a little more considerate with your words or knowledge of history? Maybe next time.
So you tried, “Did it leave a dime-sized mark on your arm? Because for me, I have no mark at all.”
Bucky adjusted his jaw, following your lead. “I think I do. I haven’t really checked.”
“Can I be frank?”
“Don’t see why not.”
“Because it may be a little out of line and totally ridiculous to say, but I think you should hear it.”
Bucky cleared his throat, laying a gloved hand over Axel’s paw.
“I need your permission before I put my foot in my mouth.”
“I’m a big boy, I can take it.”
You grumbled, fighting with yourself. You just had an internal battle with yourself for saying something, accidentally, out of line and here you were, about to do it again. But it had the potential of being a positive thing. A thing that could change the outlook of one horrible memory.
“That polio mark… I am not defending Hydra or making them seem like good people. It doesn’t have anything to do with them, really. But all the torture you endured, all the evil… They, at least, gave you something good. It’s not a defense for them, but for you. So, think about it like this. For just a moment, in the year 1955, something good happened to you.”
“It doesn’t erase the bad.”
“No. It doesn’t. It’s just a little bit mixed in there. Existing. Hiding.”
Bucky raised his eyes, meeting yours. “I’m not giving them that credit.”
You nodded. “Then don’t attach it to them. You were vaccinated against something bad, and that’s good. Period.”
“And you might have been broke in New York, but it led you to finding Lainey. Period.”
You smiled, teeth and all, thinking that Lainey would have liked Bucky. Would have probably stolen him from you. For a good reason, too.
Sticking out a gloved hand, you raised your pinkie finger. Waiting for Bucky as he did the same.
“Tell me, Bucky Barnes. Tell me what you want me to touch, and I’ll do it. Anything, as long as it won’t get me arrested.”
With a half-assed, impassive look, Bucky motioned for you to go on.
“Tell me what you want to touch, too.”
The soft breath that left his lungs swirled in the air as he exhaled, two strands from his hair bun escaping. He tucked one behind his ear, still keeping that one hand raised.
“I want,” he started, swallowing lightly. “I want to be able to hold someone’s hand. To pinky-promise. To hug them goodbye. I want to be able to see someone without clothing again, to not freak out when they scrape a knee. I want to be able to pass a plate to someone, to feel their warmth, to high-five. I want to own my body again. And I want people to know that I own myself.”
Something inside of you twisted painfully, deep in your stomach. His words felt like a reverse catapult, cannons slicing through your organs before they landed. When you first laid with someone for money, there was this awful feeling of neglect to yourself. To your own wellbeing. A feeling of raw, horrid guilt. Because you hadn’t chosen to do it fully. You hadn’t given yourself freely and completely. Half of you accepted it, while the other half writhed and begged you to stop.
After some time, you came to own these moments. To make them your own, pleasurable, chosen. You had decided the when, and the where, and the who. You owned it all.
Knowing that Bucky Barnes never had a choice… That feeling of raw, horrid guilt came rushing back—not attached to you, of course—but as an extension. As empathy. As understanding.
“I give you permission, Bucky Barnes,” you said, tucking your legs underneath yourself and facing him directly. “To touch me however you like. Whenever you like. To learn how to live again. And I promise, if I do not want to be touched, I will tell you.”
He watched your raised pinky curl, a question in his eyes.
“Cross one thing off that list,” you told him. “Accept my promise.”
So Bucky straightened his once crumbling shoulders, and wrapped his gloved pinky around your own.
