MS Dhoni Holds the Middle Overs Slump as the Reason for Loss against Rajasthan Royals in IPL
Chennai Super Kings lost to Rajasthan Royals in an IPL match from a three-run defeat. Mahendra Singh Dhoni who scored 32 runs off 17 balls said that the reason was the middle-overs slump and they could not manage to hit a six in the last ball. However, Dhoni feels that the fate of the match was already sealed between the 7th and 15th over, where Moeen Ali (7 off 10 balls), Shivam Dube (8 off 9 balls), and Devon Conway (50 off 38 balls), could not compete against Yuzvendra Chahal (2/27) and Ravichandran Ashwin (2/25).
In the post-match presentation ceremony, Dhoni commented that in the middle period, there were several dot balls and there was not much juice for spinners. It is fine if the ball stops and turns off the surface. However, that did not happen. Ravindra Jadeja and Dhoni were batting as the last pair and that was too early in the tournament. This was the reason they could not go hard as they had to keep NRR in mind. There were several overs still to go. So, they would have to be stable and keep it a bit late in the mid-match.
Dhoni also said that they could not go for runs immediately and had to take more singles, but wished for some more of it. He did hit three big sixes and said that he was up for it, just waiting for the bowler to make the mistakes and give him the chance. According to Dhoni, he does not fancy too many things and when the bowler is under pressure, he is bound to make a few errors and that happened in the last overs. He also said that he likes to hit straight and that is his strength, and everyone should back themselves at hard moments.
At the same time, Dhoni was not happy about the batters not being able to take benefit of the dew factor. In the first few overs, there was some due and it got easier for them. And they should have been able to cash on it and bat better when they had the opportunity. The bowlers however performed well. According to Dhoni; he is not much concerned about milestones. He has captained 200 games now and it does not matter if it is the 200th game or the 199th. He said this is normal and nothing special, but thanked the almighty for the grace.
Sanju Samson, the winning skipper appreciated the bowlers from his team for being calm as the situation for tense at the end. Samson said that he wanted to win today as earlier they had not won in Chepauk. The bowlers bowled really well and kept their cool. Also, they held important catches. He said that Dhoni is a respectful player and he deserves it because he does things that only he can do and it is never safe with him, nothing works against that guy. He tried to push in deep but the last two overs were difficult.

What we needed to do was not be careless in first 10 overs: Kumar Sangakkara | Cricket News
ABU DHABI: Rajasthan Royals Director of Cricket Kumar Sangakkara on Saturday blamed the "careless" approach of his batting unit in the first 10 overs for the 33-run loss against Delhi Capitals. Opting to field, RR restricted Delhi to a modest total of 154 for six but could score only 121 for 6 in 20 overs after being reduced to 48 for 4 in 10.2 overs. "154 was a great total to limit Delhi Capitals to, (what) we needed to do was not be careless in the first 10 overs. Unfortunately Delhi came hard at us, they bowled smartly and we weren't up to it," Sangakkara said at the post-match press conference. "So, I wouldn't worry too much about the lower middle-order, they got us out of lot of trouble in the first half of the IPL and I am sure, they will come good, as we go along." Captain Sanju Samson top-scored with an unbeaten 70 off 53 balls but he didn't get the support from the other end. "Chasing 154, should have been done with the batting that we had, especially starting from the top-order and downwards, and we weren't good enough on the day," Sangakkara said. Sangakkara also rued the injuries to Evin Lewis and Chris Morris which forced them to make changes in the playing XI. "It is unfortunate that we had a couple of injury concerns that meant that (Evin) Lewis and (Chris) Morris didn't play, but that is just temporary and we have the options," said the former Sri Lankan great. "It is not just about making changes, it is about whoever does play, to kind of stick to the game plan and understand what is happening and access conditions." Asked if skipper Samson should have upped the ante earlier, Sangakkara said, "Well, it was a tough one for the skipper, he was batting so well. All we needed was someone to stay with him and unfortunately losing wickets so regularly, didn't allow Sanju to cut free early on." Sangakkara also credited the Delhi bowlers for not allowing him to free his arms. "The Delhi boys also bowled quite well and smartly, managed to bowl away from the areas that are Sanju's strengths." South African David Miller too couldn't make the opportunity count as he was stumped by Rishabh Pant off Ravichandran Ashwin in the fifth over. "You can look at it a couple of different ways, he is a naturally attacking player and that's the shot he usually plays, unfortunately he is up against a really smart and wily bowler with a lot of experience, and that is sometimes a trade-off," Sangakkara said. "But probably right, it is not the ideal situation to take such a risk when we have lost a couple of wickets, but that is T20 cricket and it happens and you just got to get smarter." Delhi Capitals pacer Anrich Nortje, who returned with figures of 2 for 18, said variations was the key on a track like Abu Dhabi which was a bit slower than Dubai. "It is definitely a bit slower than Dubai. We were expecting it as well, obviously playing a day game here, it is not going to be quick, it is either going to be slow or very slow," he said. "So, I think variations on good length that is a very good option and also (dealing with) the odd length, ... if you just change the grip on the ball, that might be a variation itself, so just try and hit the stumps. "...it is bit difficult to hit straight, the shorter deliveries are always easier to hit, so just to try and hit the good length and play with the ball in hand, you don't have to bowl a slow ball or anything else." Women's T20 Challenge: Supernovas beat Trailblazers by two runs to enter final | Cricket News - Times of India
JAIPUR: A fine blend of aggression and deftness, Chamari Atapattu (67 off 48 balls) single-handedly took on the responsibility to challenge the bowlers, putting Supernovas in the driver’s seat to down Trailblazers by two runs in a must-win Women’s T20 Challenge match in Sharjah on Saturday. With all the three teams winning one game apiece, the title clash will see Smriti Mandhana-led Trailblazers take on Harmanpreet Kaur’s Supernovas who pipped Mithali Raj’s Velocity on the basis of a superior net run rate. #Trailblazers and #Supernovas will face each other in the Final of #JioWomensT20Challenge on November 9. https://t.co/ckNrsMMVDK — IndianPremierLeague (@IPL) 1604770721000 Chasing 147, when Trailblazers were reeling at 91/4 in 15 overs, Deepti Sharma (43* off 40 balls) and Harleen Deol (27 off 15 balls) put up a brave effort and took the team close to the target, but fell agonizingly short. Trailblazers got off to a solid start. But twin blows by fast bowler Shakera Selman in the seventh over that saw opener Deandra Dottin (27 off 15) and Richa Ghosh (4 off 2 balls) walking back to the pavilion, pegged the pink outfit back. Mandhana (33 off 40 balls) could not capitalise on the couple of reprieves she got after being dropped in the fourth and the ninth over. The captain was caught and bowled by off-spinner Anuja Patil in the 13th over. Read the full article
