My First Month with the iPhone 6 Plus

Those who know me well understand that I have a problem... My addiction to Apple products has turned me into an unintentional crusader of sorts, converting those around me to the slim, sleek, paired down iOS devices that take incredible photos at the blink of an eye.  What's shocking to most is how anti-Apple I once was… And I remember the first device that I literally tethered to my hip was an Ericsson pager with a thin gold chain, and I rocked that stone-aged beeper with pride.  I unpacked every feature of that chubby black hunk of plastic from the beep tone down to the buzz frequency and invested in designer clips.  I was far from the envy of my friends in 2001 who toted Nokia phones equipped with ::gasp:: the iconic Snake application; however, I soon joined the more technologically advanced bandwagon, brandishing various cell phones for the subsequent decade from the LG Chocolate phone with a touch-wheel that barely worked in the winter, to the bubbly Samsung flip phones, Danger Hiptop’s handy, hip Sidekick II, III and LX, and finally the illustrious and corporate Blackberry Bold.  One of my all-time favorites was the Nokia 5510, which was one of the first mp3-capable cell phones equipped with 64 MB of music storage, a specialized single-ear headset and a full QWERTY keyboard.  I became a power user within a few weeks and took full advant @ age of its mp3 capabilities during my summer in Italy in 2006, the same year they won the World Cup.   It wasn’t until the iPhone 4 was released to Verizon in 2011 that I abandoned the world of touchtone, T9, and Qwerty keyboards to join the loyal Apple fans who gyroscoped and tapped to their hearts content on this immersive glass experience.  There was no better, more innovative phone in the market at the time with digital camera-worthy praise and a compact, flawless design.  I betrayed RIM, Samsung, LG and all the rest for the cutting edge, hot new item.  Fast forward three years and two completely redesigned iPhones, I was one of the first to get my hands on the Gold iPhone 6 Plus.  But this time, I was not left with the same feeling of superiority as I once felt when holding an Apple product.  I look around and see the Goliath-sized Galaxy Note 4, the shiny HTC One, and Moto X, each with arguably more features and companion devices such as styli and wearables and I think to myself, it’s getting crowded up here at the top.  Aside from these initial doubts, I do believe the iPhone 6 Plus is the most superior product in the market due to its form factor, technical capabilities, and Ecosystem of iOS and OS X devices.  The Apple Watch will help Apple hold their competitive advantage for at least another design cycle and depending on how entrenched Apple becomes in the fashion industry, the Apple Watch has the potential to reinvent itself with each new accessory.  I’m excited to see where competition pushes the Tech giant to innovate next.
