We were recently introduced to the work of New York School artist Angelo Ippolito, who founded the famous artists’ collective gallery the Tanager Gallery along with Fred Mitchell in 1952. The Grey Art Gallery at NYU recently mounted an exhibition called “Inventing Downtown” which surveyed the outsized role of these small artist cooperatives. Ippolito was both a painter and a well-respected teacher. His paintings gained acclaim for their “brilliant color” (Fairfield Porter) and “joyous lyricism” (Dore Ashton). Pictured her: “Hold Fast,” from the estate, 1960. #angeloippolito #fredmitchell #tanagergallery #inventingdowntown @nyugrey #artoftheday #paintingoftheday #immigrantartist #abstractexpressionism #abstractpainting https://www.instagram.com/p/CF0sksJAPBV/?igshid=fijz0j14aind

"Perle Fine: Prescience Series (1950s)" opens next Thursday 3/16/17 at Berry Campbell. This series was painted between 1950-54. Many have not been seen since that time. Please have a look at this great painter's work.
