Crosshair Bad Batch is iconic. He’s a badass. He keeps getting his ass kicked in. He hates being told what to do. He spends half the series licking boot. He builds his identity on being a strong man who can make the hard choices. He can’t lead for shit. When he’s not posing like a model he is writhing in agony. He didn’t want the kid or the dog but would gladly die for either. Truly a Character

The upcoming @clonexocweek event has inspired me to finally dive into Tumblr and debut my beloved ship, Bryneir and Hunter, affectionately 'Brynter.' Figured I should introduce them first since I've never posted about them here before! I've been publishing their slow burn story, Those Eyes Like Fire, on AO3 for over a year and a half and counting. For now, here's their moodboard and some info about their fic. There's art, excerpts, and drabbles inbound for the event, can't wait to see what everyone else has to share!

Summary:

A retelling of the Clone Wars through the eyes of a nat-born and a clone.

Hunter is the leader of Havoc Squad, later known as Clone Force 99, a special forces unit of misfit clone brothers. Created to serve the Grand Army of the Republic during an intergalactic war of worlds against the Separatists, Hunter grapples with his purpose as he is forced to face his own humanity through the bitter lens of war.

Bryneir Q'ade was a prisoner of war in a Separatist facility before joining the Republic army's 501st Legion as a combat trainer. Her past is heavily classified, her true origins only known by a select few. Battles rage within her that threaten to bleed her painful past into an unknown future as she seeks redemption and belonging.

Through chance meetings they foster a long-distance friendship destined to be something more. They bond over laughter, loss, war stories, and tattoos as Hunter helps her start to come to terms with her past, and Bryn helps him better understand what it means to be human.

Looking at this, I can’t help but be reminded of @miss-musings essay about how Crosshair’s brothers failed him in season 1.

I’m referring specifically to the analysis of Crosshair’s behavior and actions in the essay.

Based on experiences in my own life, with friends and coworkers, I do wonder if Crosshair was always insecure about his standing within the group. This makes sense given that he's likely the youngest of the four original brothers, and that as a sniper, he isn't always in the middle of the action like they are. His personality doesn't really help either, but his brothers seem to be able to navigate it just fine in their "The Clone Wars" Season 7 arc.

And Crosshair -- especially once he seems to regain his free will between the Bracca and Ryloth arcs -- watched his brothers risk their lives to save complete strangers while doing nothing for him.

Not to sound like Tech, but while I don't agree with Crosshair's decision, I can understand why he decided to stay on Kamino rather than go with them at the end of 1.16. His brothers offered him no real comfort and no real apology, and I think he desperately wanted to hear that, especially from Hunter.

Christopher Ford has confirmed in this interview on The Resistance Broadcast podcast that she was not Jod’s Jedi Master, but a Jedi who was killed during Order 66.

I highly recommend listening to the entire interview. It’s an hour long, but it flies by and Ford reveals so many interesting facts.

Sadly I can understand why they cut this scene if she was Jod's master. They wanted to keep the show from the kids perspective. And as much as I hate to see actors scenes get cut. I think Jod telling Wim about his master was way more impactful than if we saw it play out.
