Why banks are adopting a modern approach to cybersecurity—the Zero Trust model - Office.com/Setup
Many banks today still rely on a “castle-and-moat” approach—also known as “perimeter security”—to protect data from malicious attacks. Like medieval castles protected by stone walls, moats, and gates, banks that use perimeter security invest heavily in fortifying their network perimeters with firewalls, proxy servers, honeypots, and other intrusion prevention tools. Perimeter security guards the entry and exit points to the network by verifying the data packets and identity of users that enter and leave the organization’s network, and then assumes that activity inside the hardened perimeter is relatively safe.
Savvy financial institutions are now moving beyond this paradigm and employing a modern approach to cybersecurity—the Zero Trust model. The central tenet of a Zero Trust model is to trust no one—internal or external—by default and require strict verification of every person or device before granting access.
The castle’s perimeters continue to be important, but instead of just pouring more and more investment into stronger walls and wider moats, a Zero Trust model takes a more nuanced approach of managing access to the identities, data, and devices within the proverbial castle. So, whether an insider acts maliciously or carelessly, or veiled attackers make it through the castle walls, automatic access to data is not a given.
When it comes to safeguarding today’s enterprise digital estate, the castle-and-moat approach has critical limitations because the advent of cyberthreats has changed what it means to ward and protect. Large organizations, including banks, deal with dispersed networks of data and applications accessed by employees, customers, and partners onsite or online. This makes protecting the castle’s perimeters more difficult. And even if the moat is effective in keeping enemies out, it doesn’t do much for users with compromised identities or other insider threats that lurk within the castle walls.
The practices below are all sources of exposure and are common in banks that rely on a castle-and-moat approach to security:
A single annual review of staff access rights to applications.
Ambiguous and inconsistent access rights policies dependent on manager discretion and insufficient governance when staff moves occur.
Overuse of administrative privileged accounts by IT.
Customer data stored in multiple file shares and little idea who has access to it.
Overreliance on passwords to authenticate users.
Lack of data classification and reporting to understand what data is where.
Frequent use of USB flash drives to transfer files that include highly sensitive data.
The benefits of a Zero Trust approach have been well documented, and a growing number of real-world examples show that this approach could have prevented sophisticated cyberattacks. However, many banks today still adhere to practices that diverge from Zero Trust principles.
Adopting a Zero Trust model can help banks strengthen their security posture, so they can confidently support initiatives that give employees and customers more flexibility. For example, bank executives would like to untether their customer-facing employees—such as relationship managers and financial advisors—from their desks and meet clients outside bank premises. Today, many financial institutions support this geographic agility with analog tools like paper printouts or static views of their counsel. However, both bank employees and customers have come to expect a more dynamic experience using real-time data.
Banks that rely on a castle-and-moat approach to security are hesitant to disperse data outside the physical network. As such, their bankers and financial advisors can only tap the dynamic models of proven and disciplined investment strategies if their client meetings take place on bank premises.
Historically, it’s been cumbersome for bankers or financial advisors on the go to share real-time model updates or actively collaborate with other bankers or traders, at least not without VPNs. Yet, this agility is an important driver of sound investment decisions and customer satisfaction. A Zero Trust model enables a relationship manager or an analyst to harness insights from market data providers, synthesize with their own models, and dynamically work through different client scenarios whenever and wherever.
The good news is this is a new era of intelligent security—powered by the cloud and Zero Trust architecture—that can streamline and modernize security and compliance for banks.
With Microsoft 365, banks can make immediate steps towards a Zero Trust security by deploying three key strategies:
Identity and authentication—First and foremost, banks need to ensure that users are who they say they are and give access according to their roles. With Azure Active Directory (Azure AD), banks can use single sign-on (SSO) to enable authenticated users to connect to apps from anywhere, enabling mobile employees to access resources securely without compromising their productivity.
Banks can also deploy strong authentication methods such as two-factor or passwordless Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), which can reduce the risk of a breach by 99.9 percent. Microsoft Authenticator supports push notifications, one-time passcodes, and biometrics for any Azure AD connected app.
For Windows devices, bank employees can use Windows Hello, a secure and convenient facial recognition feature to sign in to devices. Finally, banks can use Azure AD Conditional Access to protect resources from suspicious requests by applying the appropriate access policies. Microsoft Intune and Azure AD work together to help make sure only managed and compliant devices can access Office 365 services including email and on-premises apps. Through Intune, you can also evaluate the compliance status of devices. The conditional access policy is enforced depending on the compliance status of the device at the time that the user tries to access data.
Conditional access illustration.
Threat protection—With Microsoft 365, banks can also bolster their ability to protect, detect, and respond to attacks with Microsoft Threat Protection’s integrated and automated security. It leverages one of the world’s largest threat signals available from the Microsoft Intelligent Security Graph and advanced automation powered by artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance incident identification and response, enabling security teams to resolve threats accurately, efficiently, and promptly. The Microsoft 365 security center provides a centralized hub and specialized workspace to manage and take full advantage of Microsoft 365 intelligent security solutions for identity and access management, threat protection, information protection, and security management.
The Microsoft 365 security center.
Information protection—While identity and devices are the primary vectors of vulnerability for cyberattacks, data is what cybercriminals ultimately want. With Microsoft Information Protection, banks can improve their protection of sensitive information—wherever it lives or travels. Microsoft 365 enables customers to 1) identify and classify their sensitive data; 2) apply flexible protection policies; and 3) monitor and remediate sensitive data at risk.
Example of a classification and protection scenario.
Microsoft 365 helps simplify the management of security in a modern Zero Trust architecture, leveraging the visibility, scale, and intelligence necessary to combat cybercrime.
As you consider how to safeguard your modern “castle,” a Zero Trust environment is optimal for modern cybersecurity threats. A Zero Trust environment requires up-to-the-minute oversight of who is accessing what, where, and when—and whether they should even have access.
Microsoft 365 security and compliance capabilities help organizations verify before they trust a user or device. Microsoft 365 also offers a complete teamwork and productivity solution. Altogether, Microsoft 365 provides a comprehensive solution to help bank executives focus on customers and innovation.

Early Detection of Azure DNS Outage – April 1st, 2021
Just about 2 weeks after its most recent outage, Microsoft experienced a severe DNS outage Thursday Evening at approximately 21:30 UTC on 01 Apr 2021. That’s the official start of the outage from Microsoft. But we all know that official starts and actual starts are often different.
Exoprise DNS and server monitoring caught the error about 10 minutes earlier (not our biggest amount of headroom for an outage) but that is frequently the nature of DNS failures.
Here’s the scenario we saw though all involved (us, Microsoft, others) are still investigating the issue and recovering bits and pieces of ourselves.
Early Indication of DNS Failure
At 21:20, we received an alarm Email from our Exoprise CloudReady Monitor proactive monitoring of DNS:
That was the first and earliest sign that all hell was about to break loose.
If there’s one lesson you need to take away from this outage it’s that DNS failures hurt and hurt bad. So, know your IP addresses and have them written down or exported. That might at least give you a fighting chance of getting to your infrastructure.
Tumblr media
Status, What Status??
You know you have a problem when your status page goes bad and you have to suggest that people use an alternative status page. And then you know its really, really bad when the second status page also goes down. That’s what happened here, doh:
Shortly after that, someone at Microsoft started to get the picture that a static page with a message would be the way to go and they updated the status page and just published it. Here’s what we got:
Tumblr media
Microsoft Azure, the server software that powers Xbox Live, Teams, Outlook, and other web services has gone down.
“We are aware of an issue affecting the Azure Portal and Azure services”, the official Microsoft Azure account tweeted. “Please visit our alternate Status Page … for more information and updates.”
The issue appears to be also affecting Microsoft’s other products, including Skype, OneDrive, and its Office 365 workplace suite.
Then the Exoprise Integrated Twitter status feeds started to have a semblance of information Twitter thread, saying: “We’re investigating an issue in which users may be unable to access Microsoft 365 services and features. We’ll provide additional information as soon as possible.” and the Office status page finally got a few updates too; “DNS issue affecting multiple Microsoft 365 and Azure services”, the company’s status page currently informs readers. “Users may be unable to access multiple Microsoft 365 services and features”
And our customers dashboards began to go red:
Tumblr media
MO248163 Comes To Light
Sometime around 7:32 PM Eastern Time (11:32 PM UTC) Microsoft created Service Communication Message MO248163 to formally track this outage for Microsoft 365 and Azure. Since Exoprise publishes these outage through its communications, we were still up and able to communicate this to our customers:
Tumblr media
DNS issue affecting multiple Microsoft 365 and Azure services User Impact: Users may be unable to access multiple Microsoft 365 services and features. More info: Reports indicate that impact is primarily to Microsoft Teams, though other Microsoft 365 and Azure services may be affected. Additional affected services include but are not limited to: Dynamics 365, Microsoft Intune, Skype, SharePoint Online, Exchange Online, OneDrive, Yammer, Power BI, Power Apps, and Microsoft Managed Desktop. Current Status: Microsoft rerouted traffic to our resilient DNS capabilities and are seeing improvement in service availability. We are continuing to see availability improvements, so some customers may begin seeing services recover. We are managing multiple workstreams to validate recovery and apply necessary mitigation steps to ensure complete network recovery. Scope of Impact: This issue may impact any user attempting to access multiple Microsoft 365 services and features. Next Update: Friday, April 2, 2021 by 12:00 AM UTC
You can see that this outage affected a large number of dependent and downstream services.
Preliminary Root Cause
Friday, April 2, 2021 by 3:00 AM UTC Preliminary Root Cause: We are continuing to investigate the underlying cause for the DNS outage but we have observed that Microsoft DNS servers saw a spike in DNS traffic. Next Steps: We apologize for the impact caused by this outage. We are continuing to investigate to establish the full root cause.
So far, as of April 2nd, Microsoft is still sticking to the “spike” story. We will update this page when we have more detail and analysis to report.
More Findings
Tumblr media
On Saturday morning, April 3rd, Microsoft published additional information though there is still no concrete information about  who or what caused the surge of DNS traffic. Was it a Denial-of-Service Attack (DDOS)? Was it an error or mis-configuration of DNS services? We will post more information if any is provided.
Root Cause: Azure DNS servers experienced an anomalous surge in DNS queries from across the globe targeting a set of domains hosted on Azure. Normally, Azure’s layers of caches and traffic shaping would mitigate this surge. In this incident, one specific sequence of events exposed a code defect in our DNS service that reduced the efficiency of our DNS Edge caches. As our DNS service became overloaded, DNS clients began frequent retries of their requests which added workload to the DNS service. Since client retries are considered legitimate DNS traffic, this traffic was not dropped by our volumetric spike mitigation systems. This increase in traffic led to decreased availability of our DNS service.
Mitigation: The decrease in service availability triggered our monitoring systems and engaged our engineers. Our DNS services automatically recovered themselves by 22:00 UTC. This recovery time exceeded our design goal, and our engineers prepared additional serving capacity and the ability to answer DNS queries from the volumetric spike mitigation system in case further mitigation steps were needed. The majority of services were fully recovered by 22:30 UTC. Immediately after the incident, we updated the logic on the volumetric spike mitigation system to protect the DNS service from excessive retries.
This information can also be found here: https://status.azure.com/en-us/status/history/

Teamviewer For Mac Old Version Update
Teamviewer For Mac Old Version
Teamviewer costs from $49 per month for a single user ($588 per year) for its lowest tier plan – rising to $99 per month for up to 20 users or $199 per month for up to 200 users.
Tumblr media
That's surprisingly good value, for one of the best remote access software solutions around, and regular Teamviewer deals and discounts can keep its prices keener, still.
Doesn't work as advertised. Specifically, syncing across devices is unreliable and moving to a new phone number after the unexpected failure of an old phone has resulted in a loss of account access. As a Twitch streamer, losing access to my accounts in the name of 'security' is unbearably frustrating. Whatever the older Macintosh computer is, to make it useful nowadays you’d likely want to find and download some old Mac software for it. This post will aggregate a collection of links and resources for finding and downloading old Mac software, including old Mac system software, old Macintosh applications, and more, for everything from older Intel Macs, to PowerPC Macs, to 68040 and 030 Macs.
Whether in the workplace or as part of a distributed workforce around the globe, practically all modern white collar workers use computers that IT teams will need to access. As a result, remote access software can be a huge boon for most businesses.
Here's what you need to know about Teamviewer and its various pricing plans.
In this guide:

Tumblr media
Then there's Support for Mobile Devices, an add-on that supports iPad, iPhone, and Android devices from your desktop computer for $32.90 per month, billed annually at $394.80.
TeamViewer's Servicecamp service desk lets users offer simple ticket management to their customers, costing $9.90 per month per agent, billed annually at $118.80 per agent. The TeamViewer Pilot add-on takes the remote service desk even further, empowering technicians to guide customers through complex processes with an augmented reality tool, for $39.00 per month per technician, billed annually at $468.00 per technician.
Finally, there's Extra Concurrent Users, the add-on that businesses should opt for if they need more users than the Premium plan's 50 users, or the Corporate plan's 200 users. This add-on isn't available for the Business plan, which is only for a single user.
Integrations
The third-party integrations available for TeamViewer users come in six main categories: CRM, Internet of Things, IT Service Management, Remote Monitoring and Management, Unified Endpoint Management, and User Account Creation.
The CRM category includes Helpdesk tools as well, with four integrations: ZenDesk, Salesforce, Zoho, and Microsoft Dynamics 365. The Internet of Things include IBM Maximo and Synology; IT Service Management includes Freshworks, JIRA, Cherwell, and Servicenow; while Remote Monitoring and Management includes SysAid and Ninja RMM.
Tumblr media
Unified Endpoint Management has the most integrations: Microsoft Intune, IBM MaaS360, EloView, Sophos, AppTec360, and MobileIron. Finally, there's User Account Creation/Deactivation, which includes Active Directory and Okta.
Is TeamViewer free?
In an unusual move, TeamViewer is indeed free for personal use.
Students can download a free copy for their own use, and so can anyone who needs to offer the occasional IT support to a Luddite friend or family member. The software will work forever, at no charge.
Teamviewer For Mac Old Version Update
Anyone who wants to use it for commercial purposes, however, will be limited to the 14-day free trial, which offers full functionality and should be enough to let users know if they'll benefit from the paid service.
TeamViewer Pros and Cons
TeamViewer is a great application for a specific challenge that many modern companies face: How to quickly and easily address all their workers' IT needs. The software offers an IT team remote control of all employees' devices. This can be used for desktop sharing to install new services or troubleshoot problems, and it can also support online meetings and conferences as well as remote file transfers.
On the “cons” side, first and foremost there's the price, which many users find a little too high – particularly once the add-ons are factored in. In addition, there's a lag problem that is unavoidable if the destination device's software is too old, though it's not a concern as long as the client computers or mobile devices are kept up to date.
Finally, some features offered by competitor services are missing from TeamViewer: There's no ability with the basic plans to freeze screens remotely, or to see through a client device's camera.
TeamViewer Features
Tumblr media
TeamViewer packs plenty of general features, even beyond the ones that this article highlighted earlier. Here are the noteworthy examples:
Remote Access
Remote Support
File Sharing
Real-time Chat
Screen Sharing
Session Recording
Session Transfer
Access Control
Collaboration
Diagnostics Tools
File Transfer
Mobile Access
Remote Printing
Reporting and Analytics
Customizable customer modules
Meetings and Presentations
Wake-on-LAN
Ultimately, TeamViewer offers all the essential abilities and tools a remote access software should, even if some of them are only available through additional paid add-ons.
TeamViewer Benefits
Due to its feature-rich approach to remote device access, TeamViewer offers a range of benefits that can all add up to a lot of money saved at the end of the year.
First, TeamViewer makes it simple to transfer or pass control from one party to another, speeding up the workflow and boosting productivity as a result. How often does your business need to pass control of a device to someone else? The more you do, the greater the benefit of using TeamViewer.
A simple app that lets you text, video chat, and stay close with people you care about. Turn off the light in Dark Mode Give your eyes some rest with a sleek new look. Facebook messenger desktop app mac ios. Simply go to Messenger.com and sign in to use the app on your desktop. Alternatively, an unofficial option would be to download a third-party app called Messenger for Desktop. Keep in mind that this is not an official Facebook app, but it will get the job done.
Another big TeamViewer benefit is support for team sessions, which let administrators manage multiple parties at the same time. If you have tight-knit teams that may need upgrades or new software as a group, TeamViewer is an easy way to bring them on board.
And if any of your employees need to share files with any other teammates on a regular basis, TeamViewer's quick and easy file sharing ability uses a drag-and-drop interface to help employees collaborate. Install multiple fonts mac.
So, is TeamViewer worth shelling out for? It depends on your business's needs: If you frequently find yourself facing technical challenges due to the wide range of platforms and devices used by your employees, adapting TeamViewer might ultimately save you money in the long run. But if you don't, it may not justify the price tag.
Technical Details
The TeamViewer remote access software works across all the main devices and platforms, including Windows, Mac, Linux, Android, iOS, iPhone/iPad, Windows Mobile, and web-based services.
Deployment can be web-based, cloud-based, or via SaaS.
Training options include an online knowledge base and community forum, an academy, and customized packages that include in-person training. Have any questions or concerns? Support is available during business hours via email, phone, or live chat.
TeamViewer Alternatives
If you're still not sold on TeamViewer, that's okay. It's not the only remote access software in the game, and the two top competitors aren't too shabby.
LogMeIn Central costs just $9.95 per month per user, making it the clear budget choice. It's available for Windows, Mac, iOS, and Android, and offers the suite of features needed to address your clients' IT problems in stride. However, lag time is a concern, and the support team isn't as responsive as one would hope, according to user reviews.
See how the two tools stack up in our Teamviewer vs LogMeIn head-to-head guide
Zoho Assist offers diagnostic tools and live chat alongside the file and screen sharing, session transfer, and remote access features you'd expect. The software doesn't offer some features unless you shell out for a higher-priced plan. In addition, the phone and browser apps can occasionally take a few moments to properly sync, which bugs some customers. It starts at $18 per user, per month.
Splashtop Remote Support is another popular option, with support for all major platforms and clients including big brands like Toyota, AT&T, and UPS. Plus, there's the Germany-based AnyDesk, priced at a bracing $10.99 per month and with over a hundred million users across the globe.
Any one of these four remote access solutions is a reasonable alternative to TeamViewer, offering the features and functionality businesses are looking for.
TeamViewer FAQs
What is the difference between TeamViewer free and paid?
The free version of TeamViewer is only for personal use, while the paid version is for commercial use. If you're not a business and you don't directly profit from using TeamViewer, you're free to download the complimentary version available from the TeamViewer website.
If you use TeamViewer within an organization, even a nonprofit one, you'll need to pay for a subscription. Furthermore, if you use a personal version, you'll have more limited features, as some abilities can only be unlocked with a license.
How long does a free TeamViewer session last?
TeamViewer's sessions will last just as long for the free version as for the paid one, with a maximum time limit of 8 hours.
However, if users would like to set a limit in order to avoid idle sessions that last all day despite no one benefiting from them, users can define an idle session timeout from anywhere between 30 minutes to 8 hours.
How many members can connect in TeamViewer?
The amount of members who can connect in TeamViewer depends on which plan you have licensed. The Business plan allows five meeting participants, the Premium plan allows 15, while the Corporate plan allows 25 participants.
If you're just looking for the number of users whose devices can be accessed one at a time by TeamViewer technicians, the Business plan supports 200, the Premium plan supports 300, while the Corporate plan supports 500.
Can TeamViewer spy on you?
No, TeamViewer can't be used to spy on your device without your consent.
Can TeamViewer see what I am doing?
Teamviewer For Mac Old Version
Yes – if the TeamViewer software is currently connected to your device, then an agent can potentially be watching your screen. TeamViewer is connected when the TeamViewer panel is visible, typically on the upper righthand side of the screen on a desktop view. If you'd like to disconnect from TeamViewer, just click the dropdown menu and select the “close” option.

How to use Hong Kong Style Mahjong – Free for PC and MAC
You can run all Android games and applications on your PC or MAC computer. Using a free software called Bluestacks, you don't need to purchase anything but games or applications it self if it isn't free.
Download Bluestacks from this link.
Install BlueStacks from installation file with following the on-screen instructions.
Once Bluestacks is installed add your Google account in it.
Type Hong Kong Style Mahjong – Free in Search bar and install it.
Now you can use Hong Kong Style Mahjong – Free on your PC or MAC.
Buggy, but fun Really enjoy the game, but the bugs are annoying. Periodically the game treats the tiles differently from how they appear. It will give you the option to pong tiles that don't match, or will not let you win when you should. You can have a pong and a pair, and still be forced to discard.
Finally A HK Style Mahjong Game A good HK style mahjong game and the best thing about it is that it has an English GUI. I wish it also had the ability to switch the GUI to Chinese too.
Potentially a great game but right now it has many bugs. It often shows 5 of the same tile. And I did email you, but no response. And other people here are also saying it's buggy. Don't be defensive. We're all trying to help you make a great game!
Bugs won't let me win a lot of time, so frustrating Won't let me win on a winning hand, makes me throw card instead of winning.
Fun, but bugs are frustrating So many times I should have won, but game does not recognize.
Finally an actual mahjong game and not 'solitaire'. Only been playing for half a day. It's good BUT sometimes glitchy when you have winning tiles but game doesn't let you win, noticed it happening more frequently after first round. Needed one tile to complete the final pair and picked it myself but no option came up, had to throw it out and the game came to a draw soon after (this has happened at least twice)
Best game of four winds but needs improvement Just needs some graphical improvement and some bug fixes. I can't pick up a discarded tile to form a pair even though it's a winning move since I already have 4 sets. Improve this and it would be the best game of four winds.
How come there are totally 6 same tiles? And it happens all the time!
Lousy I won many times but it did say I won and the game continues
Bugs cause wrong tiles are displayed. You have no idea what you hand really is. Very frustrating.
Does Not Understand All Tile Combinations I play mahjong regularly. With family. At parties. Good game, but when I know I won and the game doesn't recognize the combination because it can't differentiate chows and pong, it means you need to fix it.
Waiting for multiplayer support, otherwise would 5 star it. Best mahjong interface with HK style I've tried thus far. Waiting for multiplayer support, otherwise would 5 star it. Best mahjong interface with HK style I've tried thus far.
Lacking in polish and variety The gameplay is acceptable (minus some jarring graphical flaws and the bugs that cause the wrong tiles to be discarded sometimes) but the other players have become predictable always trying to get all the characters for for their particular sign and favoring chows over anything else.. Is it too much to ask for some variety?
Minimum levels to win 1 to 6 great With minimum levels to win from 1 to 6, it adds realism to the real played game. Thank you.
Very good A very good game. It uses the score that are mostly used internationally. There are few combinations that we used in national championship in my country not recognized here. It doesn't include richi in the combinations. Only one little problem, sometimes it won't let me go out. Other players discard what I need and it won't let me win. When it shows the summery in the hand my hand had 1 or 2 different tiles from my hand of when I was playing. Very addictive game.
C+ Glitches! Sometimes a tile is missing. It just disappears. Sometimes I get the kong/chow/or win. Sometimes I dont, :(
hong kong style - Great This it's great it really works
Overall alot of bugs. Had alot of malfunctions in the command and the reading of all the tiles
There was one game when there were 5 tiles of four marbles on the table, impossible!!!! I have a screenshot of it ..
o g Kong Style Mahjong - Free True! Best magic app ever
Real Mahjong The rules are slightly different than what I play at home, and the scoring eludes me, but a great game.
Fast Paced Mahjong action Incorporating traditional Hong kong rules, it has many options
New game app. trying to learn it. also enjoying it a lot.
Very good game =p Hy . Im new but im really enjoyed this game. I recommended this game . really friendly user
Hongkong mahjong Light game good for teaching rules of play enjoyable game, :p
mahjong was my childhood games. this really remembering me about my childhood. thanks 100%works for me

Microsoft announces changes to cloud contract terms following EU privacy probe
Chalk up another win for European data protection: Microsoft has announced changes to commercial cloud contracts following privacy concerns raised by European Union data protection authorities.
The changes to contactual terms will apply globally and to all its commercial customers — whether public or private sector entity, or large or small business, it said today.
The new contractual provisions will be offered to all public sector and enterprise customers at the beginning of 2020, it adds.
In October Europe’s data protection supervisor warned that preliminary results of an investigation into contractual terms for Microsoft’s cloud services had raised serious concerns about compliance with EU data protection rules and the role of the tech giant as a data processor for EU institutions.
Writing on its EU Policy blog, Julie Brill, Microsoft’s corporate VP for global privacy and regulatory affairs and chief privacy officer, announces the update to privacy provisions in the Online Services Terms (OST) of its commercial cloud contracts — saying it’s making the changes as a result of “feedback we’ve heard from our customers”.
“The changes we are making will provide more transparency for our customers over data processing in the Microsoft cloud,” she writes.
She also says the changes reflect those Microsoft developed in consultation with the Dutch Ministry of Justice and Security — which comprised both amended contractual terms and technical safeguards and settings — after the latter carried out risk assessments of Microsoft’s OST earlier this year and also raised concerns.
Specifically, Microsoft is accepting greater data protection responsibilities for additional processing involved in providing enterprise services, such as account management and financial reporting, per Brill:
Through the OST update we are announcing today we will increase our data protection responsibilities for a subset of processing that Microsoft engages in when we provide enterprise services. In the OST update, we will clarify that Microsoft assumes the role of data controller when we process data for specified administrative and operational purposes incident to providing the cloud services covered by this contractual framework, such as Azure, Office 365, Dynamics and Intune. This subset of data processing serves administrative or operational purposes such as account management; financial reporting; combatting cyberattacks on any Microsoft product or service; and complying with our legal obligations.
Microsoft currently designates itself as a data processor, rather than data controller for these administrative and operations functions that can be linked to provision of commercial cloud services, such as its Azure platform.
But under Europe’s General Data Protection framework a data controller has the widest obligations around handling personal data — with responsibility under Article 5 of the GDPR for the lawfulness, fairness and security of the data being processed — and therefore also greater legal risk should it fail to meet the standard.
So, from a regulatory point of view, Microsoft’s current commercial contract structure poses a risk for EU institutions of user data ending up being processed under a lower standard of legal protection than is merited.
The announced switch from data processor to controller should raise the bar around associated purposes that Microsoft may also provide to commercial customers of its cloud services.
For the latter purpose itself, Microsoft says it will remain the data processor, as well as for improving and addressing bugs or other issues related to the service, ensuring security of the services, and keeping the services up to date.
In August a conference organized jointly by the EU’s data protection supervisor and and the Dutch Ministry brought together EU customers of cloud giants to work on a joint response to regulatory risks related to cloud software provision.
Earlier this year the Dutch Ministry obtained contractual changes and technical safeguards and settings in the amended contracts it agreed with Microsoft.
“The only substantive differences in the updated terms [that will roll out globally for all commercial cloud customers] relate to customer-specific changes requested by the Dutch MOJ, which had to be adapted for the broader global customer base,” Brill writes now.
Microsoft’s blog post also points to other global privacy-related changes it says were made following feedback from the Dutch MOJ and others — including a roll out of new privacy tools across major services; specific changes to Office 365 ProPlus; and increased transparency regarding use of diagnostic data.

Day One - 21/10/2019
Today Justin gave us our final brief for the film unit. We had already been informed that we will be creating a fashion film but today was the first day for the new brief. Our first task was to select the brand we wanted to make a piece of film for, once we had chosen our brand we needed to email Justin that afternoon with a rationale to say why. I felt slightly overwhelmed because I had an idea of the type of film I wanted to create however I had no idea what brand I wanted to use. For me this brief is important as I want to pursue a career which involves fashion film. I feel nervous as I haven’t had experience in creating a marketing report as I joined the class from a different university and we hadn’t done that. I am going to put together a calendar and schedule to keep with so that I can manage my time well and keep focused.
We were told about the different types of fashion film which were either a look book, an editorial or a narrative piece. Although I hadn’t chosen a brand or done any research as of yet, I knew I sort of wanted to create a narrative piece of film.
I spent the rest of the morning and the afternoon looking at various designers I appreciate. I knew I wanted to go down the luxury fashion route because I feel as though street wear wouldn’t challenge me. As a young person I feel very connected to a lot of street wear brands and would say my style is a combination of street wear and smart casual. It could be more beneficial for me to choose a street wear brand but as I mentioned before, I wanted to challenge myself and also explore my style as a young creative.
As I only had until the end of the day I wanted to be thorough but also pick a brand whose items I would wear… With the past brief (Disney vs Tarintino) I was very disconnected from the film as I didn’t like the brief or the footage and so when it came to editing I was unhappy, especially with the end result. I know that my strengths are in video editing but I couldn’t progress with that brief because I didn’t enjoy editing that film. So I wanted to pick a brand whose clothes I would wear and a brand that excited me.
I made the decision to look for a brand that I hadn’t heard of. It would mean I had no pre conceptions of the brand and had to thoroughly research from the beginning. I knew that if I chose a brand I already knew I wouldn’t dig as deep because I’d be too excited to start planning. I went onto Net A Porter and started scrolling through their clothes. I chose a colour pallette that felt close to my own style which was bright colours and then opened tabs to any clothes that I loved and by a designer I hadn’t heard of. I looked through around ten different brands and slowly narrowed them down to three that I felt very connected too. Net A Porter really helped me to find a variety of different brands and prior to this brief I hadn’t used it much before but I found it a useful way to learn about upcoming designers and also unknown designers. I chose to look further into three brands, De La Vali, The Attico and Retrofete .
De La Vali
De La Vali is a womenswear RTW label which was founded in 2017 by two friends. The clothing is inspired by bohemian culture and also where the girls grew up - Ibiza.
I loved the pieces on the DLV Net A Porter page, the combination of bohemian and luxury intrigued me. I looked at some of their past promotional strategies and enjoyed their fashion films I have even added stills from them to my digital archive however the website felt slightly off brand in comparison. The website is all white with a clear gold title but a lot of their videos are dark and intriguing, I felt as though the image that they created in their films wasn’t cohesive with their site. I looked at De La Vali’s Instagram which has 34.5k followers. Their Instagram page has a cool seventies aesthetic with the use of rich colours in their imagery. As I scroll further down their page it felt yet again not cohesive and it almost seems as though they have rebranded online more than once. I think their newer posts are more eye-catching and on brand, however I would make sure that all of their page matched this.
“Founders Jana Sascha Haveman and Laura Castro infuse their Ibizan heritage into every one of De La Vali's collections. Designed to match the bohemian, free-spirited mood of the island, every piece is bold and feminine and will instantly make a statement the moment you enter a room. “ - Net A Porter
        The Attico
‘The Attico’ which translates to ‘penthouse’ in Italianwas created by two street style bloggers Giorgia Tordini and Gilda Ambrosio in 2016. The Attico is a luxury RTW clothing brand and has been described as “...something refreshing, something different,  something creative, making women feel elegant and beautiful and powerful all at once”- Giorgia Tordini and Gilda Ambrosio Manrepeller.com.
The brand focuses on attention to detail which follows through to their social media platforms, TA’s website has been carefully created to personify the brand.  With a clean but dark design the site creates an air of mystery and exclusiveness. Going onto their ‘About Brand’ page I expected an in depth article very similar to De La Vali however they kept it short using “Join us Upstairs” as the title and continued to write... “Attico, Italian for penthouse, is a word that conjures visions of lavish abandon from the top floor.” They cleverly create a vision for the customer to imagine when wearing the pieces. The Brand also has an impressive 364K  Instagram followers which is a huge platform to post their product. Their Instagram page is very cohesive and intune with their website and message. They use a lot of interesting imagery which works well with their branding, out of the three The Attico has the most interesting social media page and website.
 Retrofete
The name which comes from the French word ‘Vintage Party’ takes inspiration from the founders Ohad Seroya and Aviad Klin who spent most of their careers sourcing vintage pieces around the world. The brand celebrates glamour and opulence. The collections feature glitter, sequins lace, ruching and draped silhouettes reminiscent of the studio 54 era. On their website they describe themselves as “thrill seekers” and state that Retrofete “sets out to reignite the flame that smoldered on the dance floors during the gilded era of funk, sex and rock and roll” ending on “Welcome to the Party!”. Their Instagram page has a current following of 105k followers and they continue to use the “welcome to the party” slogan as a hashtag on most of their posts.
I like the slogan and feel as though it could be used really well for further campaigns and potentially as an idea for my film. I have looked on their Instagram, website and typed into google yet haven’t found any film form of promotional film which opens up a window for my marketing strategy.
Their Instagram page is cohesive in terms of a white border which has been edited onto every post keeping it clean and fresh however, there is not a lot of creative imagery they’ve kept their images simple and I wouldn’t consider it artistic which is something The Attico achieved really well with their Instagram.
These three brands offered similar styling with their use of rich colours, fabrics and embellishments - part of what I was looking for. De La Vali created free spirited feminine pieces which also made a statement whereas The Attico had a modern vintage aesthetic that focused on creating pieces that made their customers feel both feminine but also powerful. Retrofete’s vision was interesting with the combination of the founders vintage sourcing roots and disco inspirations, the ‘welcome to the party’ slogan worked well similar to  The Attico’s ‘join us upstairs’ slogan, they add an air of mystery and exclusiveness to the brands. I felt as though De La Vali’s message was not clear in terms of their branding and social media which would give me more to improve and work with in terms of a marketing strategy. I felt excited by The Attico because of their alluring website and use of imagery. I felt connected to De La Vali’s vision as their past fashion films where similar to my own style of film, however this felt like a negative because I almost feel as though I haven’t got much to offer in terms of something new.

Scope of impact: This issue could affect any user. Next update by: Monday, March 15, 2021, 7:00 PM (11:00 PM UTC)
Preliminary Root Cause of the Microsoft 365 Outage
Microsoft recently updated the root cause for this outage and its to do with
Ongoing, enhanced security protection with Azure AD
Rotation of security keys
This is an excellent goal to pursue but, obviously, getting there can be a challenge. Read on for more insight into the cause and more detail can be found here: https://status.azure.com/en-us/status/history/
Preliminary RCA – Authentication errors across multiple Microsoft services (Tracking ID LN01-P8Z)
Summary of Impact: Starting approximately 19:00 UTC on March 15, 2021 customers may have encountered errors performing authentication operations for any Microsoft and third-party applications that depend on Azure Active Directory (Azure AD) for authentication.
The Azure Portal, Microsoft Teams, Exchange, Azure Key Vault, SharePoint, and other applications have recovered. Other applications are in the process of recovering and impacted customers will continue to receive updates regarding these.
Preliminary Root Cause: The preliminary analysis of this incident shows that an error occurred in the rotation of keys used to support Azure AD’s use of OpenID, and other, Identity standard protocols or cryptographic signing operations. As part of standard security hygiene, an automated system, on a time-based schedule, removes keys that are no longer in use.
Over the last few weeks, a particular key was marked as “retain” for longer than normal to support a complex cross-cloud migration. This exposed a bug where the automation incorrectly ignored that “retain” state, leading it to remove that particular key.
Metadata about the signing keys is published by Azure AD to a global location in line with Internet Identity standard protocols. Once the public metadata was changed at 19:00 UTC, applications using these protocols with Azure AD began to pick up the new metadata and stopped trusting tokens/assertions signed with the key that was removed. At that point, end-users were no longer able to access those applications.
Next Steps: We understand how incredibly impactful and unacceptable this is and apologize deeply. We are continuously taking steps to improve the Microsoft Azure Platform and our processes to help ensure such incidents do not occur in the future.

Free 15 Day Trial for Early Detection of Microsoft 365 Outages
You need uptime, no downtime.
If you had Exoprise CloudReady earlier today, you’d have known about the outage hours in advance. Not only that, you could have communicated it to your users who might be waiting on that business-critical email. You need to witness detailed metrics to get a better hold of an outage so you can troubleshoot quickly and also recover Microsoft service credits.
Other vendors simply blog about the outage from Microsoft’s portal and service health messages. They fail to show how they actually captured the error and outage.
Only Exoprise shows how it captures the errors in advance of Microsoft reporting the problem.
Every day customers start and deploy a full suite of sensors in under 5 minutes. Give it a try for network benchmarks, root cause analysis and complete visibility into ALL of Office 365.

System Center Configuration Manager current branch Update 1906 released
Tumblr media
System Center Configuration Manager current branch Update 1906 released. Version 1906 client requires SHA-2 code signing support Because of weaknesses in the SHA-1 algorithm and to align to industry standards, Microsoft now only signs Configuration Manager binaries using the more secure SHA-2 algorithm. The following Windows OS versions require an update for SHA-2 code signing support: Windows 7 SP1Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1Windows Server 2008 SP2 Use Desktop Analytics with Configuration Manager to: Create an inventory of apps running in your organization.Assess app compatibility with the latest Windows 10 feature updates.Identify compatibility issues and receive mitigation suggestions based on cloud-enabled data insights.Create pilot groups that represent the entire application and driver estate across a minimal set of devices.Deploy Windows 10 to pilot and production-managed devices using Configuration Manager.Minimize deployment risks by monitoring the health state of your devices during and after the deployment.Ensure your devices are still supported with security and feature updates status. Management insights rule for NTLM fallback Management insights includes a new rule that detects if you enabled the less secure NTLM authentication fallback method for the site: NTLM fallback is enabled. Improvements to support for SQL Always On Add a new synchronous replica from setup: You can now add a new secondary replica node to an existing SQL Always On availability group. Instead of a manual process, use Configuration Manager setup to make this change.Multi-subnet failover: You can now enable the MultiSubnetFailover connection string keyword in SQL Server. You also need to manually configure the site server.Support for distributed views: The site database can be hosted on a SQL Server Always On availability group, and you can enable database replication links to use distributed views. This change doesn't apply to SQL Server clusters. Site recovery can recreate the database on a SQL Always On group. This process works with both manual and automatic seeding. New setup prerequisite checks: SQL availability group replicas must all have the same seeding modeSQL availability group replicas must be healthy This release also includes:
Cloud Value
Multiple pilot groups for co-management workloads - You can now configure different pilot collections for each of the co-management workloads. Using different pilot collections allows you to take a more granular approach when shifting workloads. Improvements to co-management auto-enrollment - A new co-managed device now automatically enrolls to the Microsoft Intune service based on its Azure Active Directory (Azure AD) device token. Azure Active Directory user group discovery - You can now discover user groups and members of those groups from Azure Active Directory (Azure AD). Synchronize collection membership results to Azure Active Directory groups (Pre-release) - You can now enable the synchronization of collection memberships to an Azure Active Directory (Azure AD) group. Support for Windows Virtual Desktop - Windows Virtual Desktop is a preview feature of Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365. You can now use Configuration Manager to manage these virtual devices running Windows in Azure.
Customer Voice
Site infrastructure Site server maintenance task improvements - Site server maintenance tasks can now be viewed and edited from their own tab on the details view of a site server. The new Maintenance Tasks tab gives you information such as: If the task is enabledThe task scheduleLast start timeLast completion timeIf the task completed successfully Configuration Manager update database upgrade monitoring – Improved progress monitoring in the installation status window and information about blocking tasks. When applying a Configuration Manager update, you can now see the state of the Upgrade ConfigMgr database task in the installation status window. If the database upgrade is blocked, then you'll be given the warning, In progress, needs attention. The cmupdate.log will log the program name and sessionid from SQL that is blocking the database upgrade. When the database upgrade is no longer blocked, the status will be reset to In progress or Complete. When the database upgrade is blocked, a check is done every 5 minutes to see if it's still blocked. Application management Application groups (Pre-release) - Create a group of applications that you can send to a user or device collection as a single deployment.Filter applications deployed to devices - User categories for device-targeted application deployments now show as filters in Software Center. This release includes the following infrastructure improvements to Software Center: Software Center now communicates with a management point for apps targeted to users as available. It doesn't use the application catalog anymore. This change makes it easier for you to remove the application catalog from the site. Previously, Software Center picked the first management point from the list of available servers. Starting in this release, it uses the same management point that the client uses. This change allows Software Center to use the same management point from the assigned primary site as the client. These iterative improvements to Software Center and the management point are to retire the application catalog roles. The Silverlight user experience isn't supported as of current branch version 1806.Starting in version 1906, updated clients automatically use the management point for user-available application deployments. You also can't install new application catalog roles. In the first current branch release after October 31, 2019, support will end for the application catalog roles. Operating System Deployment Task sequence debugger (Pre-release) - The task sequence debugger is a new troubleshooting tool. You deploy a task sequence in debug mode to a collection of one device.Multiple improvements based on UserVoice feedback – This includes the ability to clear app content from client cache, reclaim SEDO lock for task sequences, pre-cache driver packages and OS images, and more. Improvements to OS deployment This release includes the following improvements to OS deployment: Use the following two PowerShell cmdlets to create and edit the Run Task Sequence step: New-CMTSStepRunTaskSequence Set-CMTSStepRunTaskSequence It's now easier to edit variables when you run a task sequence. After you select a task sequence in the Task Sequence Wizard window, the page to edit task sequence variables includes an Edit button. The Disable BitLocker task sequence step has a new restart counter. Use this option to specify the number of restarts to keep BitLocker disabled. This change helps you simplify your task sequence. You can use a single step, instead of adding multiple instances of this step. Use the new task sequence variable SMSTSRebootDelayNext with the existing SMSTSRebootDelay variable. If you want any later reboots to happen with a different timeout than the first, set this new variable to a different value in seconds. The task sequence sets a new read-only variable _SMSTSLastContentDownloadLocation. This variable contains the last location where the task sequence downloaded or attempted to download content. Inspect this variable instead of parsing the client logs. Software updates Additional options for WSUS maintenance - You now have additional WSUS maintenance tasks that Configuration Manager can run to maintain healthy software update points. This release includes the following infrastructure improvements to Software Center: Software Center now communicates with a management point for apps targeted to users as available. It doesn't use the application catalog anymore. This change makes it easier for you to remove the application catalog from the site. You also can't install new application catalog roles. In the first current branch release after October 31, 2019, support will end for the application catalog roles. Configuration Manager Console Role-based access for folders - You can now set security scopes on folders. If you have access to an object in the folder, but don't have access to the folder, you'll be unable to see the object.Multiple improvements based on UserVoice feedback – This includes adding a collections tab in devices node, adding a task sequences tab in applications node, and improved multi-select support. Real-time management Add joins, additional operators, and aggregators in CMPivot – For CMPivot, you now have additional arithmetic operators, aggregators, and the ability to add query joins such as using Registry and File together.CMPivot standalone (Pre-release) - You can now use CMPivot as a standalone app outside of the Administrative Console. This enables you to share the power of CMPivot with other personas, such as helpdesk or security admins, who don’t have the console installed on their computer. Added permissions to the Security Administrator role The following permissions have been added to Configuration Manager's built-in Security Administrator role: Read on SMS ScriptRun CMPivot on CollectionRead on Inventory Report Office 365 ProPlus upgrade readiness dashboard To help you determine which devices are ready to upgrade to Office 365 ProPlus, there's a new readiness dashboard. It includes the Office 365 ProPlus upgrade readiness tile that released in Configuration Manager current branch version 1902. In the Configuration Manager console, go to the Software Library workspace, expand Office 365 Client Management, and select the Office 365 ProPlus Upgrade Readiness node.
