Rating Good Omens Characters by whether I would employ them in my IRL cafe or not.
Tumblr media
Aziraphale: 100% would employ. He'd be on service, taking orders and running them out. Also, we have a small retail book corner, which I am currently failing at making work, so Aziraphale can also get that going (he'd be great at sourcing books, not so great at selling them). He is not allowed to perform his magic act though, which makes him sad. Sorry Azi.
Tumblr media
Crowley: Absolutely yes. That (infernal being) knows their coffee. The ywould be a shit-hot barista. Sadly, they get fired after a week because the only person in my life that is snarkier and grumpier than Crowley is my husband (the actual owner of the cafe, I'm just along for the ride). They get into too many arguments and Crowley quits majestically. But we really appreciated the handful of times they yeeted someone off into another dimension when they were difficult customers.
Tumblr media
Nina: Obviously. She has the experience for the job (unlike probably all the other characters); and she has the personality for it. She'd be the one that gets all the good gossip from the customers and be able to handle it be stupid busy. She'd be our number one reliable employee. My husband and Nina would also fight and snark but they'd both feel refreshed by it.
Tumblr media
Gabriel: NAH.
Tumblr media
Jim: Also NAH, but we'd probably put him on for a week of work placement through a job placement agency to help him out a bit, because he clearly needs it. Unfortunately, he becomes a liability because he drinks too many hot chocolates on shift and that costs us too much in stock.
Tumblr media
Beezlebub: I'd really like to, but the council food inspector won't allow it with all the flies that come with zir.
Tumblr media
Famine: I think Famine would be a food rep. These people come around from food wholesalers to introduce us to new products. A lot of these seem pretty questionable. I reckon Famine's taken Ciao on the road after the Notpocalypse for something new to do. He's a very polite and enthusiastic rep, but we politely decline his products. The following week, a critical potato shortage hits the market and we have trouble sourcing good quality chips, a key menu item in the cafe.
Tumblr media
Furfur: I wouldn't give him a job even though he appears to have a solid set of organisational skills, because he personally irritates me. But then he becomes a regular customer, coming in for a large cap everyday, pays in the low-denomination coins, takes up an entire table of six for two hours, and then asks for a bag of coffee to be ground in the middle of the lunch rush.
Tumblr media
Maggie: she'd be in charge of the playlist. (at least, after Crowley quits in a fury, up until then he'd hogged the spotify and dictated all of the music- and miracles it to continue even when he's not on shift. There's slightly less Queen than there is on our playlist currently). She'd be a day barista one or two days a week. I reckon Maggie and Aziraphale would be the Monday server/barista duo.
Every now and then, the playlist gets possessed for a few hours and none of us can do anything about it but let it pass and see what Crowley's digging musically these days.
Tumblr media
The Metatron: Absolutely not. In fact, he's banned from coming within 500 metres of us and our oat milk supply.

The Next One Is Free
A PASSING THROUGH ONE SHOT POV REMIX
A/N: A long long time ago I posted an ask where for people to request befores, afters, or POV changes for any scene/ chapter of any of my stories, and @suchatinyinfinity (thanks Dani!) asked for the scene from Passing Through when Ryan and Reader meet from a different POV (which we get from Reader in the main story) and I am sorry it took me so long to get to because I had a blast writing it. It also goes along with the first prompt from this September prompt list- which I am going to try to utilize in some way shape or form through this month in an attempt to write daily. The goal for September is to empty my inbox and catch up on things I have been meaning to write so without further ado...
Request/ Prompt: Ryan & Reader’s first meeting- POV Remix // September Prompt Day 1- the smell of coffee
Word Count: 1k
Tumblr media
It was a typical Tuesday morning shift at Caribou.
The bell above the door hadn’t stopped jingling for more than a few seconds at a time as customers came and went. The chiming sound was accompanied by the near constant clanking of ceramic mugs jumbling together in the dishwasher and the drip, drip, hiss of the coffee pots to create a sort of soundtrack for her to work to. With only one song. One long song on an endless loop.
Maggie stared through the steam of the espresso machine at the line of customers stretching out from the counter. Their number never dwindled to less than four no matter how quickly she filled cups or frothed foam. The fast pace could sometimes be exhausting, but it did help to make the time fly when she was consistently busy. Her eyes darted up to the clock mounted to the wall on the far side of the room, squinting to read the time as a man with broad shoulders stepped into the line. Ten thirty. One more hour to go. You can do this, Mags.
By then she had already had her slew of early regulars with their routine orders and friendly smiles, their “have a great day hun”s and their “see you tomorrow”s genuine even if they were also routine. The daily stream of half sleeping students stopping in for a pick me up en route to their 9 am class a few blocks over at the UC Denver campus had already come through too, Maggie recognizing a few of them as classmates from her night classes and making small talk about assignments or upcoming exams as she made their drinks. There was also a group of middle aged women who she could count on every other week to take up two tables in the corner while they discussed whatever it was their book club had read recently. Though it seemed like it would do the opposite, seeing certain faces, chatting with the same people, even if it was about the same thing every time, helped make a monotonous job less so.
Not all regulars were a welcome sight though, and she groaned as she recognized the broad shouldered man in the gray suit as the jerk who had made her new co-worker cry the previous week with his rude demeanor. Ugh. Not this guy again. It was undoubtedly him though, his voice cutting through the busy space as he spoke into the phone pressed to his ear with the same condescending tone he used to order his coffee. Letting out a sigh, Maggie capped the tiny cups she held and cashed out her current customer, mentally crossing her fingers in hopes that the jerk in the suit wouldn’t cause any problems. Please I just want my shift to end in peace. I have one more hour and then I’m free. I really just want it to go smoothly.
The next customer, it seemed, had heard that silent plea, the man ordering a small coffee with a kind smile. He dropped his change directly into the tip jar, thanking her in a slow southern drawl with a tip of his head. He wrapped his long, tattooed fingers around the cardboard cup she passed him and stepped aside, heading for the table where creamers and sweeteners were stocked.
Before she could even process the pleasant interaction though, the jerk was barking his order at her and she felt herself struggling to keep a customer service approved smile on her face. The effort wasn’t lost on the woman in line behind him, and she gave Maggie a sympathetic look. Luckily, the well dressed asshole didn’t have any complaints about his coffee this time, and since his order was simple he was out of her hair relatively quickly. Good. Now get out of here before-
But it was too late for him to leave without incident as dark brown liquid splashed onto his coat. Maggie saw it happening in slow motion, but there was nothing she could do to stop it. She was already helping a different set of customers when the nice but apparently clumsy woman who had just shot her a look of solidarity had spilled her beverage. And of course it had to be on him. Maggie watched helplessly as the woman tried to diffuse the situation before it became a shouting match, apologizing for the stain and offering to take care of his drycleaning. More than he deserves, but she’s trying.
He wasn’t having it though, and just when Maggie wondered if she needed to call for her manager, the kind man with warm eyes was back to intervene. Though he didn’t appear to know the woman, he stepped between her and the jerk and addressed the other man directly. He calmly but sternly repeated what the woman had offered, telling the man to either accept her apology and courtesy or move along. For half a second, Maggie wondered if the well-intentioned canvas and denim clad young man hadn’t made things worse by stepping in, but something in the combination of his tone and the way his calm eyes flashed dark and serious must have made the jerk think twice because he left, grumbling about taking his business to the coffeehouse over on Larimer. Oh. Please do.
Pressing a fully punched card with a hand-written “next one is free!” on the back into the hero of the morning’s callused palm, Maggie thanked him for ridding the shop of the undesirable customer and poured a fresh cup of coffee for the woman whose beverage the jerk had left wearing. Continuing to help the customers in line, Maggie kept one eye on the pair as they introduced themselves to one another, the woman thanking him again and both of them grinning over their steaming cups. Did I just witness one of those coffee shop meet cutes? Like in hallmark movies and fanfiction?
Laughing to herself, she watched the two of them leave the shop, the bell announcing their departure, and hoped for one more thing- I hope when he comes in for his free one… they come back together.

The Very First...Vignettes (Part I)- Carolina-Bleus
First Meeting
“Michonne...chai tea, chocolate croissant. Enjoy!”
“Thank you, Ryan.”
Rick glanced up from his book and watched as the order was claimed by its beautiful owner. As the woman turned from the counter, she locked eyes briefly with Rick and offered him a small smile before claiming her usual window seat.
Rick tried to keep his own smile in check as he took a sip of coffee and went back to reading.
He’d noticed the woman, Michonne, the moment she’d entered the small downtown café four months ago. The way she lingered over the menu and peppered the baristas with questions about the offerings signaled her newcomer status.
New faces typically stood out among the café’s regular patrons, of which Rick was one. But Rick had no doubt Michonne stood out wherever she went. She was beautiful, yes, but there was a quiet confidence and assuredness about her that drew everyone’s attention and interest...Rick was no exception. But while the curiosity of the other regular patrons faded as Michonne became a regular herself, Rick’s interest only continued to grow. He couldn’t put his finger on it, but there was just something about Michonne that made him look forward to his time at the café in a way he hadn’t before.
Rick was convinced the interest was one-sided, but an incident two months ago had him questioning that belief.  Rick had been taking a bite of his breakfast bagel when he felt eyes on him. When he looked up, he spotted Michonne in her seat looking his way. She waved in his direction with the beginnings of a smile on her face. Shocked and pleased, Rick was about to offer Michonne a smile in return. However, he looked around and behind him first just in case she’d been waving at something one else. He didn’t need that type of humiliation. Seeing no one else nearby, Rick had turned back towards Michonne, but it was too late. Michonne was engrossed in her book and stayed that way, not even sparing Rick so much as a glance when he got up to leave.
While Michonne warmed up and conversed more and more with the other regular patrons and the baristas in the weeks that followed, Rick was not part of her growing circle of café friends. Rick had mentally kicked himself over that. Every so often he’d get that same feeling of eyes on him, but whenever he looked in Michonne’s direction, her eyes would be glued to whatever book or magazine she’d brought only pausing to take a sip of her tea or a bite of her croissant.
And try as he might, Rick could never catch Michonne’s eyes again...until today.
I caught her eyes and a smile. It was quick, but a smile nonetheless.
The smile Rick had been trying to contain earlier, bloomed, unbidden, on his face. So lost was he in thought, that Rick failed to notice Michonne looking at him in a way that would have left him without any doubt that the interest was mutual.
Three weeks later...
Rick trudged into the café hoping to decompress in the shop’s normally calm and serene atmosphere after a trying overnight shift on patrol. What he found instead was a madhouse. The small café was packed to the brim with very talkative customers.
Rick almost turned around and went straight home, but something made him get at the end of the long line of patrons waiting to place their orders. A few minutes into his wait, Rick heard his name called and looked up to see barista Ryan motioning him to the front of the line, his regular order ready. Rick sheepishly moved past the other customers who threw exasperated looks his way.
“It was a call-in order,” Ryan offered in explanation to the crowd. It was a ball-faced lie that was gratefully and handsomely rewarded by Rick at the tip jar.
Rick was about to head for the exit when he saw Michonne in a booth waving him over. Not about to repeat his mistake from two months ago, Rick bounded over to Michonne.
“Hi. Um...space is really limited today. Even my window seat was taken when I got here. I guess the foot traffic from the street festival spilled over here.”
“Yeah, it sure looks like it.” Rick agreed.
“Well, if you’re looking for a place to sit, we can share this booth. Only if you want to, of course. You might have been on your way out—”
“No!”
Michonne looked taken aback and Rick rushed to clarify.
“No, I don’t mean no to you! Sorry! It’s been a long day already and it’s not even noon. My mouth and my brain aren’t working as a team at the moment.” Rick slid into the booth. “What I meant to say was that I’d love to share the booth with you. Thank you for the kind offer.”
“You’re welcome.” Michonne offered Rick a quick smile.
Suddenly nervous now that he was sitting across from Michonne, Rick cleared his throat and searched for something to say. “Oh, my name!”
“What?”
“I didn’t introduce myself. My name is—”
“Rick...half caf and steak, egg, and cheese bagel sandwich.”
Rick nodded and laughed, inordinately pleased that Michonne hadn’t been as oblivious to him as he thought.
“And you’re Michonne...chai tea and chocolate croissant.”
Michonne smiled fully and Rick was sure he forgot how to breathe for a second.
Now that smile was worth waiting for.
Rick held out a hand which Michonne readily shook. Their nervousness evaporated upon that first touch.
“It’s a pleasure to meet you, Michonne.”
“It’s pleasure to meet you, too, Rick.”
The booth became an oasis of calm in the bustling café, as Rick and Michonne blocked out everything around them and got to know each other.
***
First Date
“You’re really not going to tell me where we’re going?”
“But what if I’m dressed all wrong for whatever you’ve planned?”
Rick glanced over at Michonne. “Impossible. Everything always looks just right on you.”
Knowing him as she now does, Michonne knew Rick truly meant what he said and it wasn’t some line he was feeding her.
If he keeps this up, I’m going to fall hard...fast.
While Rick and Michonne had grown into close friends over the past three months, Michonne had been hoping they’d grow into something more. She thought Rick had felt the same romantic spark and connection from their introduction, but as the weeks turned into months, Michonne assumed she’d read the signals wrong and friendship was all he wanted. So, she was a bit caught off guard but happy when Rick finally asked her out last week as they were leaving the café.
Twenty minutes later, the couple arrived at the local art museum. Michonne gasped when she realized where they were headed for the night.
“You got us tickets to the History of Fashion in Art exhibit? Rick, this is perfect! I was planning to buy a ticket for myself. What made you think of this?”
Rick blushed at Michonne’s praise. “Well, before you were always reading books and magazines about history, art, and fashion at the café. I figured this event combined three things you seem to love.”
“Before” was before Rick and Michonne started spending time together at the café. Now, whenever they were at the café together, they were too engrossed in each other and their conversation to focus on other distractions.
“You’ve set the bar high for our first date, Rick. I’m going to have bring my ‘A’ game when I plan our next one.”
“So, there’s going to be a second date?” Rick asked hopefully.
“Of course. I knew there was going to be a second one when I said yes to this first one.”
Michonne clasped one of Rick’s hands in her own and led the smiling man up the steps and into the museum.
***
First Kiss
“Hold up. You mean to tell me you really didn’t kiss her on the first date?”
Rick rolled his eyes. “No, we didn’t kiss. How many times do you want me to repeat it, Shane?”
“Until you can make it make sense. Cause right now, I’m not understandin’ it. Didn’t you have a good time on your date?”
“I had a great time.”
“And she had a great time?”
“Yeah.” Rick smiled. “I really think she did.”
“Then why the hell didn’t y’all kiss?”
“It wasn’t the right time.”
“Wasn’t the right time?” Shane asked, incredulous. “Did her lips fall off?”
“No.”
“Did your lips fall off?”
Rick sighed, exasperated. “No, Shane.”
“Then I’m still not understanding how it wasn’t the right time. How did y’all end the date if you didn’t kiss?”
“With a hug.”
“A HUG!? A hug?!”
“Do you need a hug, Shane? You seem really agitated right now,” Rick said dryly.
“I don’t understand why you aren’t agitated. Your ass just got friend-zoned and you’re up here talking about the date smiling all big and shit like you just won the lottery.”
“I didn’t get friend-zoned. We’re going out on another date.”
“When?”
“We haven’t decided yet. Our first date was just last night.”
“Mhhhmm. And the fact that you are talking about it with me this morning instead of having some pillow talk with your date tells me your date was a flop.”
“The fact that I’m talking to you about it this morning tells me I should have waited for Glenn to get off the phone with Maggie so I could have this conversation with him.”
“You wound me brother.”
“Look, Shane, it took me three months to build up the courage to even ask Michonne out, I’m not gonna risk messing things up by making the wrong move or moving too fast. I want Michonne to be comfortable. I really like her.”
“Did you ask Michonne what she wanted?”
“What do you mean?”
“Did you ask her if she wanted a kiss goodnight?”
“No.”
“How else are you gonna know if you don’t ask?”
“That seems a bit forward. Besides, what if she’d said ‘no’?”
“Rick, from all you’ve told me about last night and everything with y’all before that, she wasn’t gonna say ‘no’, all she was gonna say was “lay it on me, daddy.”
“Michonne doesn’t talk like that.”
“Well she should cause that shit’s sexy as hell. There was this one chick I was seein’ that liked to call me ‘The Punisher’. You want to know why?”
“Absolutely not,” Rick answered.
“Your loss. Anyway, what are you gonna do about Michonne? You obviously want to kiss her.”
“I do. I really do. But I already told you I’m not going to rush things.”
“Have you talked to Michonne since your date?”
“Yeah, I called her after I got home last night and we spoke this morning. We’re meeting at the café when I leave here.
“How did she sound when you talk to her?”
Rick smiled to himself. “She sounded happy.”
“Well, there you go, brother. She likes you. You like her. Go with that. Everything else will fall into place. Go at whatever pace works for y’all. But don’t wait too long to kiss her,” Shane warned. “You don’t want her to think you’re not interested or that you don’t find her desirable.”
Rick looked at Shane in surprise at his about-face and his logical advice.
“Hey, man. Imma livin the thot life by choice at the moment, but I do know how to court a woman. My mama raised me right.”
Rick raised a brow.
“Just because I choose to ignore my home training doesn’t mean it don’t exist. I’m living my best life right now, okay? I’ll settle down when the time comes.”
“Take it from me, that time might come sooner than you think.”
“Wait, are you thinking Michonne’s ‘The One’?”
“I’m not saying that. It’s too soon for that, right? We’ve only really known each other a few months.  But...” Rick sighed. “I don’t know...there is just something about her...from the very first moment I laid eyes on her...”
Shane shook his head with a chuckle. “Your ass is gone, man. I call dibs on being your best man.”
“First of all, you’re getting ahead of yourself. Second of all, what about Glenn?”
“He can be your maid of honor.”
*****
“Did you want to kiss him?”
Michonne paused looking through her closet and faced her best friend. “Of course I wanted to kiss him, Andrea. I’ve wanted to kiss Rick for months now.”
“So why didn’t you just kiss him at the end of your date last night?”
“What would he have thought of me if I’d just hauled off and kissed him?”
“Well, if the opinion of your overly muscled ex is anything to go by, Rick would have thought you were a damn good kisser.”
Michonne rolled her eyes at the mention of her ex. “Please don’t bring Mike up. He’s taken up way too much of my time recently.”
“Is he still texting you?”
“Yes. He texted me last night before my date with Rick and again this morning. It’s like he can sense that I’m finally moving on. After six months of radio silence, now he’s sending messages saying he wants to meet for lunch and that he’s sorry and he’s changed.”
“Just block his number.”
“You really think I should? I was hoping he’d just take the hint when I didn’t respond.”
“You are giving this man too much credit and consideration. This is the same guy who left you behind to ‘find himself’ overseas and expected you to wait for him until he decided when or even if he was going to return to the States. And instead of just finding himself, he found himself with someone else and then sent you a “Dear Michonne” text and cut off all contact. Now that the fling is over and he’s back he wants things to go back to how they were as if he never left.” Andrea sucked her teeth. “Block his ass...and kiss Rick’s.”
Andrea laughed at Michonne’s shocked expression. “I didn’t mean Rick’s literal ass...unless that’s something y’all end up being into as a couple. There was this one guy I used to see that liked me to—”
“Do not finish that sentence, Andrea. It’s way too early in the morning.”
“Fine, I’ll tell you later. What you need to do now is block Mike’s number.”
“I will. But what I really need to do now is find something to wear. I don’t want to be late for Rick.” Michonne moved back to her closet.
“You saw the man less than twelve hours ago. And you see him at the coffee shop just about every day.”
“Yeah, but now we’ve had our first date with the promise of a second one. Things feel different now. I was always excited to see him even before we ever spoke to each other, but now, I literally cannot wait to get to the café and see him.”
“Again, I say, you saw the man less than twelve hours ago.”
“I know. Is that crazy?”
“Actually, no, I don’t think that’s crazy. I think that’s love.”
“Let’s not jump the gun, Andrea. It was one date.”
“One amazing date after months of anticipation on your part. I still remember the first time you told me about him. You’ve wanted that man from the word ‘go.’”
“I’m not having this conversation now.” Michonne held up revealed her final outfit selection to Andrea. “What do you think?”
Andrea let out a whistle. “I think that whole “no kiss” situation will be rectified before your chai tea gets cold.”
*****
Michonne adjusted her outfit one last time before she entered the café. She spotted Rick seated at their regular booth. He looked up as Michonne approached.
“Hey you.” Rick slid out of the booth and gathered Michonne in a hug. “How are you?”
“I’m good...great actually.” Michonne answered as they sat down. “How are you?”
“Never better.”
“I hope I didn’t keep you waiting too long.”
“No, not at all.”
“Good, we can go place our order now.”
“Actually---”
“Rick and Michonne...order for two!”
“I already took care of it,” Rick finished. “Be right back.”
Rick returned with a tray laden with both their regular orders.
“Thank you, Rick. That was so thoughtful.”
“It was nothing, really.”
Michonne bit into her croissant and closed her eyes and moaned slightly at the intermix of buttery croissant and bittersweet chocolate.
This never disappoints.
Michonne opened her eyes to find Rick watching her closely. She held her croissant out to him.
“You want to try it?”
Your lips...yeah? But the croissant will do for now. “Yes, thank you.”
Rick leaned forward and let Michonne feed him a bite of croissant. His lips grazed her fingers as he pulled away.
Michonne swallowed hard at the contact. Now if only my lips were so lucky. “Do you like it?”
Rick licked his lips, savoring the flavor. The taste of your fingers...absolutely. “Delicious.”
The byplay wasn’t lost on either of them. Try as they might to focus on the conversation at hand, both Rick and Michonne were distracted with thoughts of what did and didn’t happen between them the night before. Unconsciously, the eyes of one would stray down to the mouth of the other as they talked.
“Rick, I just wanted to tell you again how much fun I had last night.”
“I did, too. I really enjoyed the exhibit. Who knew I had a passion for fashion?” Rick joked. “But I enjoyed your company most of all.”
Michonne smiled sweetly. “It was nice spending time with you, too.”
“I’m looking forward to our next date.”
“Me, too. When did you want to go?”
Tonight! Dang, play it cool, Rick. “Uh, what’s a good time for you?”
Tonight! Girl, don’t be overeager! “If you’re not working, maybe we can try something on Wednesday.”
“Wednesday it is.” Rick looked at his watch and grimaced. “I really hate to do this, but I have to go. My shift starts soon.”
Michonne tried to temper her disappointment. “Oh...okay.”
“What are your plans for the rest of the day?”
Michonne turned her cell over when she noticed a new message pop up. “I’ll probably just go home for a bit and then meet up with some girlfriends.”
“Can I stop by to see you on my way home tonight? I promise it won’t be too late.”
Rick had gotten into the habit of calling Michonne on his way home from work. She liked hearing his voice and knowing he’d made it safely through his shift. He liked hearing about her day or, if he was on the night shift and coming home early in the morning, he loved talking to her as she got ready for the day. Her voice soothed him in a way nothing or no one else could.
“Yeah, I’d like that. Now, you’d better get going so you aren’t late. Have a good day and be safe.”
“I will. You have a good day, too. See you tonight.” Rick lingered for a moment longer before reluctantly getting up and moving to the café’s exit. He was nearly to the door when he stopped and walked back to Michonne.
“Michonne, if I don’t ask you this, it’s going to weigh on me all day.”
“What is it, Rick?”
“May I kiss you? I wanted to last night but I didn’t want to seem too forward. If you aren’t ready for that, it’s okay. I’ll wai—”
Rick fell back slightly as Michonne’s body suddenly landed against him and her lips covered his. He quickly recovered and wrapped his arms around her and pulled her even closer.
“I guess you were open to the idea?” Rick joked softly once the kiss ended.
Michonne smiled shyly. “Maybe just a little.”
“I really hate that I have to go now. But I’ll see you tonight.”
“I’m looking forward to it.”
Rick glanced at Michonne’s lips before meeting her eyes once again. “One more for the road?”
Michonne nodded as Rick quickly closed the distance between them.

"Can I walk you there?" with Ashton?
“Thank you, Maggie!”
You cheerily thanked your barista as she brought you your latte, the cute little flower art in the milk making you smile. It was another normal day, your AirPods settled within your ears as you started to play some music and opened up the textbook for your next class.
This assignment had been killing you, the vague details given by your professor and his lack of better communication making it feel impossible for you to feel like you were completing it correctly. Finally, after weeks of anxiety and worrying over it, you just decided to search your textbook for answers and write off of that, ultimately asking the universe to give you a solid this one time.
After two hours you lost track of time, checking your watch to find you had just enough time to make it to your next class. You chugged the rest of your latte and ran the cup to the counter, thanking Maggie again as you haphazardly gathered everything, making a messy and unbalanced pile in your arms as you quickly hustled from the cafe.
On your way there you accidentally bumped into someone’s shoulder, the force of the impact throwing your pile directly onto the ground.
“Oh my god,” said the person you bumped, his voice full of worry. “Holy shit, doll, I’m so sorry.”
You sighed, kneeling at the same time as the stranger to pick up your pile. “It’s okay, uh, I should have have a better grip.”
He helped you neatly put everything together, a better and balanced pile coming out of it. You blushed as your hands brushed together, your eyes finally meeting his.
“Thank you,” you said, standing at the same time as him and tucking some hair behind your ear. His hair was covered mostly by a beanie, black frames around his eyes as he gave you a small smile.
“Um,” he started, holding out a hand. You looked at it and noticed callouses. “I’m Ashton. Where are you going? Can I walk you there?”
You smiled in response, taking his hand and introducing yourself. “Um, I’d like that. I’m going to Jackson Building?”
Ashton nodded, his smile growing bigger as he started walking with you. “Jackson Building. The place for the smart ones.”
You laughed lightly, kind of glad to have someone walk with you. “If you say so,” you answered. “I just have one class there, my major is psychology.”
“Ah,” he said, nodding. “So you hang out in Mason Hall mostly?”
You nodded. “Yeah, and I basically live in the library.”
Ashton laughed, the sound lovely to your ears. Your conversation continued, your pace purposefully slowing to enjoy your time with the cute stranger you had literally run into, even getting his phone number and name of his dorm building for a study session later.
It was a strange meeting, but one you would quickly be grateful for.

Med Rewatch Series (#1)
Right, monkey brain said no sleep no rest, only suffering at the hands of med.
I am going to start with the first episode of S2: Soul Care. Reasoning? I need to check if Latham references Ava in his first interaction with Connor.
If my memory serves me right, when Connor is passed over to Latham for his fellowship, Latham says that he was not his first choice. In fact, his first choice was a brilliant surgeon from South Africa. In the first episode of S2, a season where Ava Bekker is only introduced with one line at the end of the last episode.
If I remember correctly and Latham does actually say that in the first ep of s2, it will be huge for the continuity (and my theory that I came up with today, if you’re interested in following this you should really read that really long post that came a little before this where the basis of the theory is laid out).
Also in rewatching this I see more of Sarah which, again, I have not seen in two years, and she was the reason I became invested in the show, and the reason I stopped watching after she left.
And all of this even before I start the episode.
There are so many emotions and thoughts running through my brain it literally hurts. I think i’m getting a headache. I’m already really regretting this, this cannot be healthy for me.
(btw, this will basically be a train of thought type thing, I’ll do my best to keep it coherent)
- omg its starting
- i completely forgot how s1 ended but its not importnat in anyway
- just, why are they in a helicopter
- how fast does the episode move ive forgotten and i need to know
-JESUS CHRIST SO DRAMATIC
- THE BEGINNING WITH WILL WHY
- it is at this point where I apologize to all those who made it this far bc we’re literally not even 30 seconds in yet
- i just have a lot of med thoughts
- oh god save me
- i am laughing hysterically
- JESUS CHRIST THE APRIL TB STORYLINE AND TATE WTF
- god that feels like a lifetime ago it was relevant holyshit
-remember when she was pregnant?
- literally what have I missed
- side note, i really like the cup april drinks out of.
-THERE SHE IS
-SARAH
-SHE’S HERE
-and she’s a barista
-literally wtf is this show
-and the dramatic music is still going literally chill man god
-THE WAY SARAH SMILES HOLY SHITTTT come on man there was literally no way i’d survive this but fuck not even a minute in...
- okay but i never understood charles’ family scenario but this is already too fucking long for a minute in so i hope we can just skip past that
-hahahah sharon’s fucking divorce? holy shit, this is too dramatic for the first ep literally save me (at least she acts well)
-yeah the one thing I will say about med (thats a lie ive already said a hundred but yk) is that for the crap storylines and all, the actors take what they’re given and give it their all and i appreciate it so much
-the helicopter’s number is N365UCC and just... succ
-ethans bird (!)
-also the fact that’s so big for ethan to be chief resident is so weird to me. like the last medical drama I watched was greys and they are all like grizzled veterans and have been doing that stuff for actual decades and i tend to put med and greys on like the same level bc they are the only medical dramas ive watched but.. holy crap the people on med are so young?? half their main cast is med students and residents. when nearly every main character on greys is a department head. its wild.
-proud of ethan. proud of my boy (did you know that adam jacobs who played aladdin on broadway was in a s3 episode? fun facts) (fun fact: did you know that ava is the only main character on the show who’s status is now deceased? I’ll shut up now.)
-oh my god i say roland buck III’s name and GOD noah jesus
- i find noah incredibly annoying, especially bc he tries to overshadow reese (my fav) but also just bc hes spoiled [that thing that said that one of the biggest mistakes med made was not having sarah get the emergency med residency at the end of s1 comes to mine, and the fact that noah got his residency easy peasy] - but, i will say that the moment at the end of this season where noah and reese dance together at the party is very adorable. (pre reesker brain showing lmao I really did love sarah with my whole heart) (moreover my snapchat memories were filled with just recordings of reese scenes lmaooooo)
-okay at this point I need to stop once i get to the potential ava thing bc what is happening we’re not even two minutes in why is this so long. (so many thoughts)
- i find will annoying but,,, he is kind of nice to look at. and what i mean is like facial acting (i am a lesbian). like. just. don’t speak. and when he’s being a good character he’s fine. it’s very few and very far between ig
-natalie annoys me so much and shes only had one line, and it wasn’t even a character line, it was mainly exposition.
-EW
-FUCKING EW
-ITS CONNOR HE’S HERE. god i forgot what he looked like in red scrubs and his poofy hair. child compared to s3 and s4. hopefully we see latham soon so we all don’t have to suffer through this. and he looks so angsty. he definetly glowed up in the later seasons.
- i have no clue how to spell definetly. I am guessing literally everytime.
-latham please come and end this all.
-oh haha there’s downey hes dead.
-okay so i actually watched s1 after i watched s2 which is so weird to think about. like that means that i liked s2 so much that i BOUGHT THE DVD FOR S1. yeah. I liked it that much (it really only means I was that much of a simp for sarah). but it also means that technically i watched s1 after i met ava?? like i honestly had NO CLUE what was in my future. did young me ever think she was going to stay up late at night, avoiding history hw while analyzing a defunct character from this show on a whim? a character i was super annoyed with at the beginning? who has no become a huge part of my personality? honestly? no. no she did not.
-and the story with downey was so jarring. and the story with zanetti. like i think i first started watching with the first ep of s2 (the one im talking about rn) and i was a bit lost. so going back and watch s1 to like connect the dots. but i never expected the dots to look like that. its like each season of this show is a completely different show from all the other seasons. like i’ve said before, this show is a headache. but literally latham please come and end this for now.
-GOD CONNOR LOOKS SO YOUNG WHAT THE HELL thats so weird lmaooooo
- like i had absolutely no clue who downey was going into this. and they they started talking like ‘oh yeah he killed his attending’ and i was just like ‘damn bro ill cheers to that’
- that’s literally ava’s first line actually. “i heard your girlfriend went insane and you murdered your attending.” - which was why she was hated at first. that was literally her first line to connor which is like, so hilariously rude that it was instantly iconic.
-also HAHAHAHAH CUE FUCKING ANGST ABOUT CONNOR HURTING EVERYONE AROUND HIM WTF BRO THE EFFECT YOU HAVE ON PEOPLE
- but i’m also sad now. --- “I heard your girlfriend went insane.” Oh. Oh, sweetie. Ava... No. --- but why does s2 ava (all two lines) foreshadow s4 ava in so many ways. like literally what were the writers on.
-baghdad.
-ah yes. the return of baghdad. been a long time since i heard that one, but it is easily one of my favorite running things about med. its just a little detail but the nick name is like perfect. (when i read fanfic where the chars are actually doing doctor stuff in the hospital it makes me light up) the WORLD BUILDINGGGGG. but whatever
-this is the girl who has the fake baby right? that was a really good ep (bc sarah content. can you see my favorites? for the same reason the one where the girl has split personalities easily ranks high with me.) oh wait this is the one where the dad like dies but then comes back for a split second to see his grand child. there’s not really a lot I can say about that, but the fact that i remember it vividly is... weird.
-okay but I actually love the ED in this show. I love how the show is centered around the ED and not the OR like greys. its fast paced, you see a lot about the characters really quickly (one of the reason’s connor’s intro to the hospital in the pilot is certified iconic in my mind [his interactions with will are gold]). the team works well together (usually, when things are good. - which is another reason I hated the show more as time went on. The personal lives interfered more and more and more with their work as time went on. it got so annoying). but like right here will just calls maggies name and maggie is just On It. I love it. I love the fast pace. it’s why this show got me to come back. so many things happen, it overloads my brain, like the way a video game works y occupying all of your attention.
-when is the dad gonna pass out i’m just waiting
-AHAHAHAHAHA JEFF NOOOOO. what even was the deal with jeff that storyline annoyed me so much I never got it. he was friends with nat’s husband (who died) and they were both named Jeff? and she actually ended up getting with Jeff a few times?
- the more you watch med and see how the characters get with each other, the more jaded you become
-omg they’re transferring the girl to the bed i love it when they count
-maggie was great but from what i heard/read they ruined her character too??? just not the same
-lmao only real g’s remember the chicago fire backdoor med pilot (if you want an explanation ask me lmao it was a ride)
- i was a real med simp bc I bought that episode on apple video.
-ahahaha this is so stupid. Jeff tries to do things and Will (being a fucking asshole and jealous, doesnt’ let him). he’s a med student let him fucking learn. also i remember why i hated will
-okay but if you look at greys vs. med, greys literally gives their med students no rights. scratch that. they give they’re interns little to no rights. (i only watched the last three seasons bc lesbian, but in those seasons they introduce the bottom of the totem pole, the sub I’s, who are a step ahead of med students, yet they are jokes on the show.) its just a weird juxtaposition is all.
-”lungs are wet.” dramatic music intensifies.
-OKAY BUT I LITERALLY FORGOT NATALIE SPECIALIZED IN PEDS. LIKE I COMPLETELY 100% FORGOT. HOLY SHIT THATS SO FUNNY i can’t believe in my mass hyperfixation i forgot, just more proof that she doesn’t deserve anything.
-why did will make nat do that call? also idk why but is it weird to anyone else when the characters call each other but just.. their names.
-ahahahah i laugh literally everytime i remember that will is supposed to be in charge like he is threatened by anything that MOVES. (also more juxtapositon to greys bc here the attendings are treated as a joke!)
- hly shit i just remember monday mourning and god damn the angst literally never takes a day off but whatever.
- i dont usually get like this but the dad’s acting here is actually making me sad lol. Usually i get annoyed when family members get emotional (im weird uhhhh)
-why did we have to watch the tube being put in for so long - med is so dramatic this fucking show whyyyy
- i bet u the dad is gonna pass out
-oh ig not oops
-OKAY FUCK ME THAT LITERALLY ONLY TOOK US TO THE TITLES HOW DO I HAVE THESE MANY FUCKING THOUGHTS.
-wait latham introduction we may just be able to call it here.
-haha i fucking hate him (connor). he just... comes off so fake-charming its annoying. i cant get over it lmao
-okay but literally every gives connor shit and I am here for it. Latham: “did you kill him?”
- it is literally so funny but annoy how connor throws hands with literally everyone in his path (like dude just chill come onnn)
-okay. okay. okay. finally the part i was waiting for.
- Latham: I preferred a young woman from Groote Schuur, but I was outvoted.
That’s an actual quote, from Latham. For those who are wondering, Groote Schuur is a famous hospital in, you guessed it, South Africa. This is where I’m calling the episode. This is all I needed.
I just want to restate. This is the first episode of season 2. Ava Bekker is introduced to the show in the last episode of season 2. What does this mean, my friends? It means everything.
For those of you who stuck through to the end, I am very thankful. Here we have probably the first piece of evidence to my theory, at least chronologically.
I, personally, think it’s absurd I remembered this point, but I did. That point, that line, presently, watching this episode with no idea of what the future holds, is only there to tell us that Latham and Connor are not going to agree. But this is the single greatest piece of foreshadowing med has ever done.
Med has never planned anything. I feel confident when I say that. Look at their storylines. They are literally on fire, and every decision the characters make reads like the writers going ‘we have no idea how we made it this far, we thought we would get stopped like ten steps ago.’
When has med ever planned things more than a few episodes in advanced, honestly? Almost never, and going a full season sitting on a plot point, that’s major. This was the first time med has ever planned something miles in advance.
In all honestly, yes I am probably giving the med writers a lot more credit than they deserve. It’s quite possible that as the season progressed they just decided connor needed a new love interest or at least a new dynamic, so they could have just easily looked back and thought ‘oh, hey, here’s a fun little thing we said earlier in the season, wouldn’t it be fun if it paid off?’ That could be true.
Here’s why it probably isn’t. The med writers have no respect for their own continuity. you really think that, in order to come up with a whole new character, they went back to the first episode of the season and paid off a line that is said in less than 2 seconds? no way. Bull. Shit.
honestly, it is probably equally unlikely that either of these things happened. The med writers don’t look back at their story. It’s true, but they also don’t plan things in advance either.
here’s the thing, the more i write, the more absurd it starts to sound. Yeah. Sure. the med writers sat on a character for an entire season, that’s totally a thing that happened and not sarcasm. When pigs fly. everyone knows med is impulsive and messy. But what I am saying is that they planned one thing. One thing.
Ava has an accent. That was a commitment. A pretty uncommon one too. South Africa is such an out of the box choice that god its barely on the map. It asks a lot of someone to act hard while also doing an uncommon accent. If the med writers just decided they needed to give connor a new dynamic, they could have made it a n y o n e. Yeah, sure it would have been nice to have the latham dynamic with the new character, but it would have been so much easier to just create a new character that doesn’t have such a commitment. We all know people who play opposite of Connor Rhodes do not stay around that long.
There is absolutely no reason Connor’s s3 love interest had to be the girl from South Africa. It could have literally been anyone. They could have kept Robin on. They could have made the new character not have so many specific requirements.
At this point, I’m pushing this really hard. Yeah, obviously Ava was planned from the beginning of s2. She had to be. It’s way too specific to be anything else.
What I’m pointing out here is med has never done that before. (at least to my knowledge, if i’m wrong please tell me i don’t want to be a fool) They have never had such a concrete plan for a character, so much as to tease them a full season before they were introduced.
I’m saying, that Ava was special. She was the only character who was teased ahead of her arrival. The one who they knew they wanted, other than the originals, and honestly saying the ‘knew what they wanted to do with the originals’ is being generous. But Ava was different. They had big plans for Ava.
It’s undeniable. Ava was the only character who was planned and teased ahead of her arrival. Ava has such a different style and character than anyone else on the show. She was always planned to be, even when she was just being teased, a rival to connor, meaning she could stand her own against him (or without him).
Now of course, the med writers forgot this when writing s4 and s5. But for the purposes of the important things, all that really matters are the two mentions in s2, and what happens in s3. (for the theory at least).
In conclusion: think about how odd it is that Ava was the only character that was planned over the course of the show. Like sure the characters are planned, but never this far in advance. Med writers don’t really plan anything. I would be shocked if they did anything but through a dart at a spinning wheel. But they had plans for Ava, and they had plans for s3, when she was good.
Think about how odd it is that the med writers had a character planned from the start of s2, that they sat on for a whole season. They never, ever did something so slow and deliberate. Never. It goes against their formula. Like a fucking shark, they have to be moving or they die, at least in their heads. But Ava was always a change to the formula. They had a plan for s3.
that’s it for now. we will see what happens when i watch the last episode of s2.

( ester  exposito ⊹ eighteen ⊹ cis  female ⊹ she / her )    is  that       MAGDALENA  CAVALLERO       i  see  over  there?    huh.    last  time  i  heard,  they  live  in   CHERRY  ROUTE   and  are  a   BARISTA   at  the   ESPRESSO  EXPRESS  CAFE.    people  are  starting  to  notice  that  they  were  actually  a   CLOSE  FRIEND   to  nate  beauchamp.    i  also  heard  they’re  afraid  of  NEEDLES?    interesting.    anyway, lets hope they can survive what’s to come
connection  with  nate  explained.
nate  and  maggie  have  been  friends  since  before  high  school,  befriending  each  other  in  middle  school.    maggie  knows  almost  everything  about  nate  and  it  was  vice  versa.    they  never  really  had  any  secrets  between  them  and  if  there  were,  there  was  always  ways  to  find  them  out.     over  their  years  of  friendship,  they  sort  of  became  siblings.    when  maggie  didn’t  have  anyone  else  to  turn  to,  she  had  nate.    now,  nate,  he  was  a   little  bit  of  a  bad  influence  on  her  and  thus  encouraging  her  to  play  up  on  her  mean  streak,  which  she  blindly  did.    she  became  the  female  version  of  nate  and  she  was  okay  with  that.
magdalena  cecilia  cavallero  actually  had  a     pretty  normal  upbringing.
her  parents  were  semi-well  off  with  her  one  father    ( damián )    being  the  CFO  of  a  company  that  was  doing  rather  well  and  her  mother    ( lucrecia )    mostly  being  a  stay  at  home  mom  with  taking  a  few  interior  designing  jobs  here  and  there.
she’s  the  youngest  of  three  brothers    ( orion,  bennett,  and  thaddeus )    and  one  sister   ( eleanora ).
orion’s  32.    eleanora’s  30.    bennett’s  29.    thaddeus’s  26.
magdalena  was  very  much  a     surprise  pregnancy     causing  her  to  be  rather  doted  upon.
her  and  her     siblings  are  very  close     due  to  the  fact  that  she  matured  rather  quickly  with  such  older  siblings.
but  that  doesn’t  mean  that  she  had  her  moments  of  being  the  brat  of  the  family  at  times.
she  grew  up  getting  anything  and  everything  she  could  possibly  ask  for  causing  her  to  be     rather  materialistic.
in  middle  school  is  when  she  began  to  blossom  into  the  person  she  is  today.
she  started  standing  up  for  herself    ( something  she  was  severely  lacking  in  elementary  school )    and     became  more  unapologetic  and  brash.
despite  that,  this  is  when  she  grew  more  into  technology    -    more  specifically  computers    -    and  began  her  love  of  programming  and  coding.
soon  enough  she  was  hacking  her  way  into  sites  and  only  elevating  it  from  there.
in  the  6th  grade  was  when  she  met  nate  and  they  soon  became  very  close  friends    -       nearly  attached  at  the  hip.
throughout  her  academic  years,  she  was  rather  studious  and  good  grades  came  easily  to  her.
she  never  received  less  than  a   ‘c’   on  any  homework  assignment  and  never  got  below  a   ‘b’   in  any  class.
was  on  honor  roll  from  6th   -   12th  grade  and  was     salutatorian  of  the  graduating  class  of  2020.
as  of  right  now,  she’s     currently  enrolled  in  the  community  college  for  computer  programming     then  transferring  to  hopefully  her  dream  school  of  caltech.
also     working  at  espresso  express cafe     to  help  her  bring  in  her  own  source  of  income  rather  than  just  her  allowance.
maggie  has  been  working  there  for  about  two  years  now.
she  was  the  one  who  was     hosting  the  party  before  nate  was  discovered  to  be  murdered.
his  murder  caused  her  life  to  spiral.    she  lost  her  best  friend,  the  person  she  considered  another  brother.
as  of  right  now,  the  police  are  looking  at  her  as  a possible  suspect  or  maybe  even  potentially  an  assistant  to  the  murder.
wanted  connections.          all  of  these  are  just  some  very  basic  types  of  connections.    if  you’ve  an  idea  feel  free  to  let  me  know  because  i’m  pretty  much  down  for  anything  and  everything.
enemy.          let’s  be  honest  here,  you  don’t  be  close  friends  with  nate  since  the  sixth  grade  and  tolerate  him  all  these  years  without  making  some  enemies  along  the  way.    whether  these  enemies  be  academic-based  or  personality-based  or  for  some  other  reason  is  completely  up  in  the  air  with  what  we  decide  to  plot  but  do  know  that  maggie  will  want  to  make  your  character’s  life  absolute  hell  and  has  been.
friends  with  benefits.          someone  she  likes  to  hook  up  with  occasionally.    to  her,  they’re  only  but  a  booty  call;  however,  we  could  pull  in  some  twists  with  her  only  sleeping  with  them  to  gain  information  and  potentially  vice  versa.
exes.          maggie  wasn’t  always  single  through  her  school  career,  she’s  had  her  fair  share  of  puppy  loves  along  the  way.    do  note  that  she  is  bisexual,  so  she’s  dated  both  guys  and  gals.    if  you  want  to  pursue  this  route,  there  are  a  multitude  of  different  outcomes  they  could’ve  endured.
friends.          whether  they  were  also  friends  with  nate  or  her  own  personal  friends,  she  needs  them!
regular  customers.          there’s  a  chance  that  if  you  frequent  the  cafe,  maggie  knows  your  coffee  order  and  has  it  ready  before  you  are  even  able  to  start  ordering  it.

CHIMEHOUR COVER REVEAL!
Done lovingly by the amazing Bored Barista (also responsible for the SaTG cover), she and I will be teaming up for the release of Chimehour in October 2018!! She's been hard at work with this and all sorts of other goodies! She's done a great job capturing the energy of the novel, which I will have much more news on this week!

Summary: "On May Day of 1901, Dublin falls. Dublin dies in the wake of a disease, dragging its victims back from the grave, mindless and very hungry. The people of Ireland flee in fear of plague, but Stanley knows better, and this is no plague; this is a curse.
Stanley Brigham only wants peace. Born a Chime Child, his second sight connecting him to England’s magical and supernatural, and long giving him grief as a secret world he shares with seldom few. The introverted British youth has only come to Ireland to introduce himself to his newly betrothed fiancée, but an outbreak of death and decay ruins the social call, unleashing a massacre on Dublin. Only Stanley hears the undead voices calling from the other side, and suspects something more magical is afoot.
His suspicions are confirmed by Maggie MacNamara, an eccentric-but-powerful spiritualist keen on saving her home. Though returned to England, a reluctant Stanley finds himself involved once more when Maggie approaches both himself and his inventive companion, Vincent Cammish. She proposes that he can use his ability against the curse. Someone is behind these undead, and she wants them found. Armed with little save for a folklore guide, Stanley ventures back to Dublin in search of the curse’s mastermind. He is soon drawn across The Veil, into another Ireland: one full with Druids, good folk, and all manner of magical kin. He finds an ally in a faerie named Willow, as charming as she is suspicious. An erratic practitioner comes on her heels, deeply involved in the curse and aiming to take the faerie away, but to what end? Stanley, Vincent, and Willow must work together to find out and unearth to cause of Dublin’s undead, soon unleashing a world of ancient magic and dark creatures the British Isles had long forgotten. And perhaps with good reason."

hey my dude, im 16 and have been out to my friends as trans for over two years. i found a name i liked but long story short im now uncomfortable using it. my friends are using some odd nicknames (one of them (lgbt but lowkey a transphobe) is more un-cooperative than necessary with this situation) and i want to find a name that fits but i cant? id rather not have a name at this point. do you have any suggestions on how to figure it out or at least deal with not having a name in the mean time?
Hey guy! Sorry I took a second to reply, I wanted to talk it over with my roommate (they’re nb) so I could give a well thought out reply. So my mate and I both started to go by our middle names when we first came out (around 15/16yrs and my middle is Renee which is already unisex). For me, i didn’t want something overly masc because i wasn’t ready to come out to my family and everyone, just some friends and the internet. Over time (17 yrs old at this point), as friends called me Ren more and used he/him pronouns, I became more comfortable in my trans masc identity and eventually wanted a name that was strictly masculine. I was lucky to get a job at WalMart located 25 mins away from my city. It’s not too far but it was far enough for me to start completely new. I got a binder and wrote down that I wanted my Name Tag to say “Nathan.” That was my first real time using that name openly and it was the greatest decision I made! I wasn’t on T yet but I passed enough of the time so that none of my co workers, except for the lady who hired me, knew I was a trans guy. They all thought I was cis which was a really strange and fun expiernece for the time I worked there tbh. Having everyone treat me as this cis boy named Nathan really confirmed my identity for me as a man, and made me love the name Nathan. So bottom line, my suggestion is to maybe go by your middle name if it’s unisex? You could also try a to use a “male version” of your first or middle name. If those don’t work, loads of people go by their last name and those are usually never gendered so that may be an option? Also, once you get to the point of choosing your forever name, I suggest saying it aloud to yourself and also writing it down. You don’t want it to feel too foreign to you while you say or write it, because you’ll be saying/writing it a lot if you change it legally (it still may feel strange at first because it is a new name you’re trying to adjust to).If your parents are supportive of you, you could try asking them what they would’ve named you had you been born a boy, you might find that it fits you well.Once you pick a name, I’d suggest trying it out like I did at a new job where no one knew you previously. If that’s not an option, you can just make an effort to introduce yourself as your new name whenever you get the chance. Tell the barista your new name, and same for when people take your name down for your order at fast food places. Just get the name out in the universe! And lastly, I literally just picked “Nathan” off of a baby name list. I liked the name “Isaac” but didn’t feel it fit me and I always wanted to reserve that name for my potential future son lol. I also considered something like “Sebastian” or “Shane” but something about seeing “Nathan” on that list made me really drawn to it and I liked the way it came out of my mouth when I said “Hi, my name’s Nathan!”I’m legally changing my name next month to “Nathaniel” though as I will still have the option to use “Nathan” in my youth and have “Nathaniel” for my later years (kinda like how an old lady’s name might be “Margret” but she use to go by “Maggie” when she was younger)I hope some of this helped you ❤!(And that’s awesome you have a boxer too!! They’re the best!!)

The Very First...Vignettes (Part III)- Carolina-Bleus
Part I Part II
First House
Tick, tick, tick...
Who knew five minutes could feel like five hours?
Rick stared at his watch for what felt like the millionth time. He looked over at his wife who didn’t seem to be faring any better. She was chewing on her bottom lip and staring off into space.
They intended to do this last night, but the move into their new home had taken longer than expected. By the time their family and friends left after a dinner of pizza and wings, the couple had just enough energy to shower and fall into bed. But as soon as the sun rose, they were up and ready. And now they were waiting.
Finally, the timers starting going off on both Rick and Michonne’s phones and her smart watch. The couple silenced the devices and looked at each other. Michonne took a deep breath and headed into the adjoining bathroom. After a few seconds, she came back out. Rick couldn’t tell if her blank expression was a good or bad thing.
Is she in shock from happiness or sadness?
Michonne held the plastic stick out to her husband.
Rick looked at the stick and then his wife. He was too nervous to remember Michonne’s explanation from just ten minutes ago. “Babe, what does this mean?”
“It means...” Michonne swallowed as tears gathered in her eyes. “It means we have about nine months to turn the bedroom next to ours into a nursery.”
Tears sprang to Rick’s eyes. “We’re having a baby?” he whispered.
“We’re having a baby.”
The couple embraced as their tears of joy flowed.
***
First Child
“Babe, I need you to sue this company for false advertising. ‘Easy open’ my behind. It was easier putting the crib together than opening this thing.”
Michonne tried to contain her laughter as she watched Rick struggle with the top of the line stroller.
“You only have yourself to blame. You insisted on buying this stroller remember?”
“I did a lot of research and this one had the best safety ratings and features, so of course our baby was going to get it.”
“I’m not arguing that. There’s no question our baby deserves the safest stroller. The question is, when is our baby going to be able to get in the stroller to enjoy all those safety features?”
“I almost have it, smarty pants.” Rick’s face lit up. “There got it!” He exclaimed triumphantly.
Michonne reached into the backseat of their SUV and gathered up their sleeping infant. “Okay, little one. You’re chariot awaits.”
***
The couple took in their surroundings as they strolled through downtown on the quiet Sunday afternoon.
“I can’t believe it’s been three months since we’ve been back.”
Rick smiled down at the stroller as he pushed it. “Yeah, but I think we have a really good excuse for our absence.”
“Yeah, the best one.” Michonne checked on their baby before continuing. “It was sweet of them to do this for us.”
The owners of the café Rick and Michonne frequented planned a “Sip and See.” It would give all of Rick and Michonne’s café friends a chance to see the couple and their new baby for the first time since Michonne gave birth three months ago.
The couple arrived at the little shop, which had a sign stating it was closed for a private event. A cheer went up when Rick and Michonne entered the café.
Barista Ryan was the first one to rush over and hug them both.
“It’s so great to see you guys! Feels like it’s been forever.”
Michonne smiled. “We missed you guys, too. Thanks again for the basket you sent over. It was much appreciated and is being much used.”
“Especially that espresso. Some days it is the only thing keeping me awake,” Rick joked.
“And I nearly cried when I saw an entire container of chocolate croissants.”
“Nearly cried? You did cry, babe. And then you ate four of them in one sitting.”
“Honey, I’d just had a baby. My hormones were all over the place. Besides, I thought we agreed to keep that between the two of us. Just like we agreed to never tell our friends how you passed out during the delivery.”
Rick blushed at the reminder. “You’re absolutely right.” He turned to Ryan. “If this gets out, we’ll know you gossiped, Ryan.”
Michonne side-eyed her husband. “Yeah right. It’s already out because of you, ‘loose lips.’ Maggie let me know you told Glenn about me crying over the croissants. Apparently that’s why he sent over those dessert pizzas from their restaurant. That was actually very sweet of him though.”
“Well, I know you told your sister about me passing out cause Jacqui suddenly started calling me ‘Rick Van Winkle’ right after the baby was born.”
Michonne chuckled. “Okay, how about this? We promise not to tell anyone else. Because if Shane or Andrea get a hold of this information, we’ll have to relocate.”
Rick nodded. “Agreed.”
Ryan laughed at the couple’s lighthearted antics. “We’ve really missed you guys. It truly has not been the same without you here.”
“We’ll be making our regular trips again soon,” Michonne promised. “With one special addition.”
Rick and Michonne moved into the middle of the room with the stroller and were soon surrounded by all those they called their “café family.”
Rick reached down and carefully lifted a now wide-awake baby into his arms.
“Everyone, Michonne and I would like to introduce you to our son, Richard Sutton Grimes, Jr. But you can call him R.J.”
The couple basked in the full circle moment of bringing the little life they created together to the very special place where their life together began.

Love Hurts
Summary
Being a Lena is hard. Especially since her brother went on some crazed anti-alien rampage and the whole world seems to expect you to do the same. It's even harder when your crush is the cousin of the alien your brother is in prison for trying to kill. It's hardest when your previously mentioned crush seems to be hazard to your physical well-being.
or
Kara is a klutz and Lena is very unlucky.
Read here at ao3
The coffee shop is emptier than usual, not that Lena minds, she prefers the quieter setting. She gets more work done when the coffee shop is less crowded. She’s been working on her application for graduate school for the past hour. Even though this was only Lena’s second year of undergrad, she took enough college classes in high school and taken at least one extra class per term so she could graduate early.
The coffee shop is usually her favorite place to get her work done, especially when there are less costumers like right now. Not that that matter at the moment since her graduate school application has remained untouched for the past several minutes.
There are things that are much more distracting than noisy patrons. Dividing her attention at the moment was Kara Danvers.
Lena has been nursing a crush on her since sharing a class with her freshman winter. For the past year, Lena has been captivated and confounded by the amount of passion and enthusiasm Kara seemed to put into everything she did. Kara was also one of the few people than hasn’t treat her any differently since her brother was arrested.
Lena’s used to people treating her differently because of her last name. Before Lex became a super villain though, it was more people trying the take advantage of her family’s fame and money. Now she just gets glares and looks of fear.
Lena takes note of the two girls next to Kara, Maggie and Alex. Kara introduced them to her once in passing as her sister and her sister’s girlfriend. Both seem slightly wary of Lena, but at least they make an effort to be polite to her. She sometimes catches Alex watching her curiously as if she were inspecting her, which is still better than the outright glares Lena is used to.
Kara has never been anything but kind and friendly to her though, seemingly eager to make conversation with Lena whenever they run into each other and offering to be her partner for projects. Lena may have signed up for enough classes, just to be with Kara, to minor in journalism at this point.
Lena steals another glance at Kara and catches what seems to be Alex and Maggie sporadically nudging Kara while talking to her animatedly. Suddenly, they’re all looking at her direction, and Lena quickly lowers her gaze to avoid being caught staring.
Lena tries to finally start focusing on her lab report again when she hears a loud crash and Kara’s exasperated “Fudge nuggets!”, at which Lena has to conceal an amused smile.
“Shit. Kara are you alright?” Alex says concerned even though she’s also laughing.
Lena looks up to see Kara and a barista on the ground with the worker’s tray and the contents it was carrying scattered around them.
Lena doesn’t see Kara again until their class together two days later. Even though Kara seemed to have no injuries from her encounter with the café floor, Lena wanted to ask her if she was okay. She paused when she saw Maggie and Alex somehow appear, each of them holding two coffee cups and each handing one cup to Kara. The three of them now seem deep in conversation, and Lena, not wanting to interrupt, turns around and starts walking back to her dorm.
“Lena! Wait!” Lena turns to Kara’s voice calling her name from across the room. She sees Kara walking hurriedly over to her with two coffees in hand.
Somehow, this ends with Lena finding herself with both of those cups of coffee soaking through her shirt, burning her skin, and Kara clinging onto her shoulders.
If it wasn’t for the hot liquid burning her stomach at the moment, she may have enjoyed the feeling of Kara pressed up against her. The liquid isn’t hot enough to cause severe burns but it is still quite painful.
“Oh Rao!” Kara exclaims finally prying herself away from Lena. “I’m so sorry.” Kara is now frantically dabbing her shirt ineffectively with the ends of her sleeves. Lena winces slightly when Kara touches an especially tender part of her skin.
Behind Kara, Lena can see Alex trying to hide her amusement and Maggie laughing hysterically.
“I’m going to the bathroom.” Lena mutters as she turns and quickly walks out of the lecture hall, not noticing Kara following right behind her.
As soon as she enters the bathroom she immediately takes off her shirt and goes to sink to splash cold water on her stomach, not caring if her leggings and bra got wet. The cold water helps ease the pain, and Lena is finally thinking clearly again, remembering the light jacket in her backpack for in case she got cold.
Lena hears some light shuffling next to her and finally realizes that Kara entered the bathroom with her.
“Kara, I have a jacket in my backpack. Could you get it for me?”
She gets no reply.
“Kara?”
“Hmm? Sorry. What?” A flushed Kara finally replies. Lena turns to face Kara and wonders what she was so distracted by.
“My backpack. Can you get it for me?” Lena asks noticing Kara staring at her torso, probably inspecting the seriousness of her burns.
“Uhhh…Yeah. Backpack.” Kara replies, her eyes finally meeting Lena’s. “I can totally get that for you.”
Kara quickly scurries out of the bathroom, and promptly returns with Lena’s backpack.
“Thank you.”
“No problem. It’s the least I can do. I was kinda the one that spilled hot coffee on you and ruined your shirt.” Kara says with an apologetic smile. “Sorry again. I hope you weren’t burnt to bad.”
“It’s fine. The cold water helped.” Lena assures her as she buttons up her jacket.
“Is there anything else I can get for you? I can fl—run and get your anything you need. I have a class in 20 minutes, but I can be late for that. I’m really sorry about burning you. I’m just so clumsy sometimes,” Kara rambles on. “Alex says it’ll get better went I get used to being here, but I’ve been here for 6 years and I still not used to the gravi—the gravel. There is a lot of gravel here. By here I mean National City! Not Earth because I’m from here, Earth!” the Kryptonian tries to correct herself.
Lena tries to hide her amusement from the Kara’s poor attempt to hide who she is and her own dark amusement of the irony of the situation, again being reminded that her crush is the cousin of the man her brother tried to kill.
“It’s okay, Kara. I’m okay. You should go to class.”
“Are you sure because—“
“I’m sure. Maybe you can make it up to me some other time.” Lena says with a slight wiggle of her eyebrow.
“I.. Uhhh… Yeah! I’ll do that. Umm bye!” Kara sputters before scampering off.
After a week, the coffee spilling instance is not Lena’s only misfortunate encounter with Kara. Throughout the week, Kara has pushed Lena out of the way of an inconsiderate skateboarder but into a thorn bush 15 feet away, knocked her down the stairs, and thrown a ball of paper hitting Lena straight in the eye.
At this point, it’s hard for Lena to believe that these instances were all just accidents. Even though every time Kara seems sincerely apologetic, Kara’s friends are always watching them and laughing amongst themselves.
As Lena looks in the mirror at her disheveled appearance with her various bruises, scratches and now an eye patch for her scratched cornea. The eye patch really isn’t helping her “I’m not evil like my brother” persona that she’s trying to accomplish. She can’t help thinking that these accidents haven’t been actual accidents. Maybe Kara finally decide to agree with everyone else in the world and hate Lena for what her brother did. Maybe Lena’s crush is actually trying to kill her, because at this rate she probably will sooner or later.
“Lena!”
Lena walks faster at the sound of the familiar voice behind her. For the past few days, Lena has made an effort to avoid Kara to escape the possibility of compiling more injuries.
She’s only a few yards from her dorm building and if she just pretends she doesn’t hear Kara yelling behind her, maybe she can escape.
Once she reaches her dorm building, Lena quickly sprints up the stairs and to her dorm room. By the time she’s there, she’s out of breath and her eye patch is skewed awkwardly to the side of her face.
Lena was almost done compiling herself when she hears a knock of her door. Shit.
It takes a few moments of her internally debating the best course of action. Maybe, if she’s lucky, it’s not even Kara.
“Lena, I know you’re in there.”
Lena is not a lucky person.
“I can see you—I mean I saw you go in there. Lena. Please open the door.”
“You ran away from me.” Kara states with noticeable a pout on her face, when Lena reluctantly opens the door. Lena can’t help but think how cute Kara looks when pouting before remembering the situation. However adorable Kara is, she has been a hazard to Lena’s physical well-being.
“You threw me into a bush” Lena replies matter-of-factly.
Kara blushes and looks down at her shuffling feet and takes a moment before answering. “That was an accident”
“Was knocking me down the stairs and accident too?” Lena asks skeptically.
“Yes. I’m so sorry. I promise everything I did to you this week has been an accident” Kara says fervently finally meeting Lena’s gaze.
“What about throwing that piece of paper at me?”
“That too… Well actually… I did mean to throw that at you…” Kara trails on as she digs out a wrinkle piece of paper from her pockets. “I just didn’t mean throw it so hard and hit you in the eye…”
Kara tentatively holds out the piece for Lena to see. Lena recognizes it as the culprit that scratched her cornea. She also notices for the first time that there is writing on it.
“Here, read it.” Kara says as she places the crinkled note into Lena’s hands.
Lena,
So, I should start off by saying I’m sorry for being such a klutz around you for the past week. I promise I’m not always this clumsy. It’s just that you make me nervous because I’ve been trying to ask you out for the past week, but I always end up making a fool out of myself and injuring you instead. I realized that I should probably write this out in a note instead of face to face since I can’t seem to be around you without injuring you. Hopefully this note will work better than my previous attempts. I heard that you are graduating after this term I don’t want to lose my chance to tell you how I feel. So here it goes.
I like you a lot. I think you’re incredible. You’re so smart and impressive and I really would like to get to know you better. Will you go out with me?
Circle one: Yes or No
P.S. Please say yes :) <3
“I thought the note was a safer choice, but I guess your eye is an obvious example of why it wasn’t.” Kara jokes after she sees that Lena was done reading. “At least you look cute in an eye-patch.”
“You like me?”
“So much. How could I not.” Kara says earnestly. “So…. Yes or no?... It’s totally alright if you’re not interested. I did injure you a lot. But I’ll try not to injure you anymore. I really like you and your so smart and good and gorgeous and—“
“Yes” Lena interrupts.
“Yes?”
“Yes Kara. I would love to go out with you” Lena says with a smile. “There’s this art showcase in a few weeks that I need to go to. You want to be my date for that?”
“I was hoping for something sooner. Like maybe a movie night with some take out this weekend?” Kara asks shyly.
“Kara, you scratched my cornea. That’s going to take weeks to heal. I’m not risking my last good eye.”
“But you look cute in an eye patch. I kind of want to date you while you’re still wearing that.”
“So you weren’t trying to kill me. You just have a pirate fetish.” Lena teases.
“You thought I was trying to kill you!?”
