South Park College Headcanons
I lost power for most to the day today, so I sat at a coffee shop and just killed time writing down headcanons for every SP character I could think of.
there's alot of them, but hopefully somebody out there finds these fun
Butters
Gender fluid / non-conforming
Saved up enough to move into dorms away from their parents
Autistic and very gullible still
has learned to stand up for themself and their friends better
Got fed up in senior year and spiked Cartman's drink w/ laxatives and locked him outside at a house party
Ppl secretly fear them a lil after that
Kept their baby face and a bit of chub
Still plays for Stan's death metal band
has a strange relationship w/ Kyle (who's grappling w/ some denied queerness)
still an absolute sweetheart
drinks at parties and smokes w/ friends, even tho everyone assumes they dont
their parents still totally suck
Kenny
revolving door of jobs cuz he gets bored easily, but is always selling weed on the side
Ran into more drug problems through highschool after his troubles cheesing
Went to rehab with Tweek and Stan, got clean, and is closer to them than ever before now
Butters stood by him at the peak of his addiction and now he would (and probably has) jump in front of a bullet for him
Joined the robotics club in HS
Pursuing an engineering degree w/ an academic scholarship
Still works as Mysterion, just w/out the undies over his pants
thinks it's funny to cockblock his friends
is kind of a player, but not a dick abt it
flirts alot, thinks it's fun to flirt w/ Tweek and Butters bc they never grew immune to his BS like the others
the idea of one of them reciprocating any flirting is terrifying to him tho
cuz he has a massive inferiority complex and lives in denial that he has real romantic feelings for anyone
ultimate rizz
Stan
Still fronts his death metal band
hopeless romentic
Bonded w/ Tweek over their crappy home lives when Tweek starts delivering to Tegridy Farm
Grew closer w/ Kenny when he found out he was in the same rehab program as him and Tweek
stronk farmboy, also p tanned which juxtaposes his alt style
Opens up to smoking weed in college now that he's sober
emotionally intelligent
NOT emotionally communicative / available tho
bottles stuff up
only knows how to vent when drunk, then later thru music
Kyle
jaded w/ a chip on his shoulder
prone to knee jerk reactions
throws hands at the drop of a hat
usually throws the first punch
kept playing sports after hs - football in college and basketball recreationally
did debate w/ wendy in HS
still bffs with stan, even tho they dont have many shared hobbies anymore
Craig
autistic
rizzless
doesn't rlly need game tho cuz he's only had eyes for Tweek, and Tweek's a mess
monotone + flat expression intimidates some people
has rep of being an asshole, it's only half true
is considered rebellious, but he just sees it as doing what he wants to do not what other ppl want him to
slow to anger, has never thrown the first punch
grew up to be tall and broad like his father at his age
his dad pushed him into playing football, after HS he only plays bc his friends are on the team and doesn't care much about winning
likes old school indie music, underground shows, and obscure bands, isn't pretentious about it tho
when Kenny tells him about the Tweek's drugging Tweek (and the rest of town) he loses it and has to get talked down from strangling Mr Tweek
Tweek
autistic + adhd
loves deathmetal, hardstyle EDM, death rap, and hardcore music in gen
bonds w/ Stan in late HS as he makes deliveries for the coffee shop up to the farm
Kenny and him are acquainted since Kenny delivers ingerdients to the shop
loves fantasy - LoTR, D&D, etc.
Trans FtM (cuz i am and i project onto my faves lol)
Finds out from Craig and Kenny that his parents have been drugging him w/ meth in the coffee since he was a child
spirals after this and has trouble trusting people, questioning everything and everyone in his life
becomes rlly close w/ Kenny and Stan when they all attend rehab together
moves out before HS even ends, couch surfing for the summer until he can move into the dorms
sobering up lets him gain some weight and he begins to look less sickly
I have more on the other characters, but I have arthritis and typing this much killed my fingers already. Hope u enjoyed if u got this far

'Why do I like mostly upbeat pop and catchy rock songs and rap music with a good beat while other people solely dig slowed down, raw songwritery music?? Why does low-fi downtempo style music give me anxiety if I listen to to much while that type of music is soothing to a lot of people?'
jumping into this music convo cos i too am fascinated by this! if i look back at my phases, it's like i was literal different people in my taste and style as i grew. as a tween i had indie grunge coming from my sister's loudspeaker, and r'n'b pop radio hits from my friend group. both were a bit scary (the intense guitars and vocals, and then the overt sexuality of 2000s r'n'b being a lot for my 12 yr old brain). i didnt know where to fit. i loved show music since i was a kid, but had no friends who did.
by the time i was at college, i found that my aversion to dance and radio hit music came about because i couldnt stand the people i knew who liked it, and it ended up representing them, their shallowness and lack of intelligence; either they were unkind to me or were the kind of people who didnt search back catalogues or try to find something individual they liked, but just followed the crowd and lazily listened to top radio stations. i was a snob! so i leaned into songwriter and folk and rock, feeling safe there where i could appreciate artists who i knew weren't just in it for a bit of fame or money.
i think music subcultures have often been about belonging though. i get this vibe with finn a lot, because he has spoken about getting into certain music through a scared fascination with it after hearing metal and rock for the first time as a kid. and clearly as a teen he felt cool being alt and indie, whereas someone like noah perhaps thought that mainstream music was cool instead. its definitely identity-based. it seems finn has mellowed a bit now, he seems more open minded, and i remember that also happening to me at age 19-20-21. i realised i was allowed to enjoy pop, cheese, even EDM and dance without it affecting my identity! but its so funny how the music becomes so much more than the music.
i do still have low key anxiety when i hear certain EDM music, mainly because i associate it with annoying college house parties when i'm trying to sleep and all i can hear is the bass 🙄🙄 . i guess i would like the music if i was dancing to it, but when i'm trying to sleep? its SO not it lmao. vinny maybe you've had a subconscious bad experience with downtempo lo-fi music in this way? or it could be about actual frequency and brain chemistry and neurons. sound waves do physically move through the body and low frequency can actually make people nauseous. my dad once worked in a lab where the techs played like 4Hz wobs from a hidden subwoofer when colleagues they didnt like came in, cos it made them feel sick and they had to leave lmao! and the killer was that they couldnt tell why they felt ill, cos it wasnt on the audible spectrum of sound haha
s4 of the show also taps into this idea of music being so personal and mysterious and i love that they did that. at first i also found joe keery's music too off-kilter and awkward, but the more i listen, the more i like the offbeat-ness of certain songs and the way there are some random pop hook/ upbeat dancey theatrical moments tucked amongst the indie. for example, the Djo song Change, from minute 2:16 onwards? Such an actual dancey bop i was so surprised and couldnt stop listening to it haha
This all so interesting!! Thank you for sharing all this! I definitely think childhood is formative in a big way, even if tastes overall change. It informs, positive and negative. I had influence from my sister, absolutely. Definitely think my pop/dance love comes from her. She was into that and I spent most of my time with her, so that did become a common interest. Everything about her influences me a lot 😊 My brothers were into country and while I can appreciate more of that now, back then everything about them was just 🙄 (still is haha) so young me suffered when country stations were favored in my house. So there's an aversion right there, like you said. Associating music with a time in your life is formative.
Lately I guess I've been embracing more older music as I'm branching out? I have several good friends who really dig the retro thing, as well as 💙 being super into old folk rock which I'm learning to appreciate. I really love what I love and yet, it does get repetitive, listening to the same music I've been into forever, while having this reluctance to the very ultra 'of the moment' modern music. I wish I could pin point the lowfi style distaste more, and I don't think it's because of any specific friend or other association. It just... doesn't make me feel good or engaged or interested. It's almost like a chore to listen to too much of it. The occasional song will grip me and I'll love it, but these are outliers. I don't know. It's weird. I remember specifically that since I'm such an anxious mess at times, and college was my PEAK disaster era - all the 'chill study vibes' playlists my friends would suggest to me just made it worse while they thrived with them hahaha. Absolutely not me. I've mellowed out, but I'm definitely... I don't even know. Chill in attitude. High strung soul. The science behind it that you mentioned is super interesting though.
Season four's exploration of music and what that means to a person was incredible, I loved that they went there. I really wonder how they'll continue with that for season five, especially since the radio station seems like a major player. I don't think that people are going to get 'vecna'd' like we're now familiar with from s4 but I predict visions and mental torment, and I'm thinking the radio station can be manipulated to do something with that issue. Very cool possibilities and I'd love to learn more about each character's favorite songs and music since we dove into that for Max, as well as with Eddie's guitar playing being used as a literal weapon kinda at one point. And how Will's singing to himself in season 1 is making a big comeback. Music is so common in our lives but so very personal. Very excited!!!
#Still don't know if I'm using lowfi correctly. I know it when I hear it. And then I hit skip hahaha

EPISODE 7
her first cut for the episode is in the kitchen of the upper house where hobi stops by and pats her head
“need help?” “i’m good, oppa. you can go ask jinnie or yoongi oppa if they need help!”
she’s silently moving around the kitchen while getting everything she needs to make tteokbokki and grilled chicken skewers
then she heard them say they were gonna cook fried chicken instead so she looks right into the camera
“maybe i should make rabokki instead?”
she works around hoseok and jungkook while they make the batter and prepares all her stuff starting with marinating her small pieces of chicken
eventually, she’s starting on her rabokki when jungkook comes in to make sauce
“need help, oppa?” “you know that good chicken sauce?” “i got you”
she started dictating stuff out loud for him to follow while simultaneously working on her own dishes
he stands next to her, heating up his saucepan on the spot next to her rabokki. she jumps when he loudly asks for ketchup
“you’re so loud” she laughed and passed the ketchup bottle
“don’t pretend you don’t get louder than this” “true. try this. is it good?” “i’ll try yours if you try mine”
the two maknaes were just trying each other’s food more than they should have at this point
once she put the cheese on her rabokki and covered it, she moved to putting her chicken pieces and chopped up bell peppers onto skewers
when she finished that, she turned off the stove and moved her skewers outside
she watched in amusement while the others panicked over the fried chicken. she was peacefully grilling her skewers
when they went to score the chicken, she called out to them “make sure to check the first two knes you fried, too”
Miya: The oppas… sometimes get a little excitable. Cooking with them is pretty amusing because they usually know what to do, but something happens and makes everyone a little jumpy. It’s actually quite funny. We did it, though. It worked!
cut to when they’re eating and she smiles
she’s sitting across from yoongi struggling to open her can of beer until yoongi opened it for her
“how can you still look like a baby when opening a can of beer?” “the tab hurts my fingers”
her skewers were finished quite quickly, and so was the rabokki
after they joked about an edm version of the in the soop song, she finished the remnants of her beer can and stood up
“does anyone want a cocktail?”
hoseok cheered for her “ooooh makdungie’s gonna make us an adult drink”
she laughed and took three bottles of soju before skipping over to the kitchen
she pulled a large clear bowl from the cabinet and dumped in a lot of ice quickly followed by the soju. she pulled a few scoops of what looked like strawberry ice cream and mixed it into the bowl of soju
she frowned realizing she couldn’t carry it but jungkook walked in
“i’ll carry that, go get us some glasses, mimi”
she grinned at jungkook then took 8 smaller glasses from the cupboards
“a sweet drink to counter all the salt and strong flavors”
she scooped some for everyone, and they did a cheers to it
“ooooh you made this well, aegi” taehyung’s wide eyes made her giggle
“i saw it online!”
by the end of the night, she was on hoseok’s lap and in an endless fit of giggles especially when they were teasing namjoon to make him dance
the next day you they show a clip of her empty bed with the words “makdungie is gone?” on the screen
then you see her sleeping beside jungkook
Miya: The oppas made it a rule to never let me sleep alone after drinking. I don’t really know why? Maybe it’s because I’m a little clingier, or I think it’s an alcohol poisoning thing or in case I get sick. It’s pretty sweet of them, honestly.
she wakes up mumbling nonsense when hoseok cuddles her and jungkook awake
“makdungie, jk” “[incoherable]”
she sits up straight away though and starts rubbing her eyes “hobi oppa?”
and hoseok uwus because cute tiny baby aksjdhf meanwhile jungkook is still knocked out. he cups her cheeks and squishes them
“time to wake up, yoon-ah. i’ll leave the other maknae to you. head to the upper house, alright?”
when hoseok left, she turned to jungkook’s sleeping form and poked him. he groaned, so she just sprawled herself across his stomach, making him grunt
“hobi oppa says we need to wake up and go to the upper house” “right now?” “mhmm”
next cut of them is yoonmi on jungkook’s back while they arrive at the upper house
“maknaes, could you two clean up and set up the table? and bring ten bowls too?” “okay”
once she finished, she walked over to the camper van and slid in next to yoongi. she closed her eyes again, making yoongi sleepily chuckle
you can see her again when they're eating breakfast. her eyes are half-closed, hair going everywhere while eating, so taehyung had to tie her hair into a bun for her
she disappears for a while after breakfast which leads to taehyung asking yoongi where she went
“knowing her, she’s probably with her guitar at the dock”
then the screen cuts to yoonmi actually sitting on the dock with her guitar and laptop out
she’s strumming random melodies until at some point she’s just playing waste it on me
there’s a mini time lapse of her before she decides to get up and go back into her room to nap
the screen shows her cuddling up to her plushies and hiding her entire body under her blanket
by the time it was 7, yoongi comes over to her room to wake her up
“hey, princess. if you don’t wake up now, you won’t be able to sleep later” “hmm” “wanna come sit with me while i work?” “mkay”
she sleepily let yoongi pull her back to the camper van
Yoongi: I’m not sure how, but I know when to check on her. I just thought maybe she’s still asleep, so I needed to wake her up so she can sleep at night. She sleeps in so much on free days, so j have to make sure she keeps as regular as a sleeping time she can get
the last clip you see of her is her hugging yoongi’s arm while they walk
EPISODE 8
she’s sitting across from yoongi with a sleepy smile on her face
“yoon-ah, put your hands up!”
she giggled and did as she was told while vibing with the elder. the screen’s caption read “yoon siblings are having fun”
hours later, she and yoongi are called for dinner
“the steak and pasta are good!” “thanks, makdungie”
they toasted for their last night there and she’s just mumbling off to jungkook about both the song for in the soop and another song she had been working on then yoongi came to let them hear the guide
jungkook then wraps himself around her because she feels cold and yoonmi just sits there unbothered. once she finished her food, both maknaes cuddled up to jin
she sits on the grass between jungkook and taehyung while holding her own firecrackers
“wah, this is really cool” “makdungie, look here”
hoseok was holding out his phone and taking pictures of her. she immediately smiled for him
jimin kept a hold on her when they tried the other types of firecrackers so she wouldn’t get too close
she was cheering when they lit the firecrackers “wah! pretty!”
they’re all gathered in the living room where she found herself in between namjoon and yoongi. you can see her zone out a little during their game
“i’m so confused” she laughed and went along with whatever was happening
the next day she woke up due to her phone ringing
“mm hello?” “...” “a little, yeah” “...” “it’s already 2pm?” “...” “alright” then she hung up
the captions just read “her brother woke her up by accident”
she spent a while staring at her wall while sitting up in bed until her door opens to reveal hoseok
“yoon-ah, time to—oh, you’re up” “good morning” “how long have you been awake?”
hoseok sat next to her which effectively made her lean her head on his shoulder “just now. yoonsungie oppa just called me about seollie”
“head up in a bit, okay?” “i’ll fix my stuff first”
she was quiet for most of lunch then went straight to the trampoline and does a few tricks and flips
“oh, they’re playing with water guns. that looks nice. oh, i should probably take a shower”
taehyung caught sight of her when she was walking off to the boathouse to get her stuff for her shower
“aegi, come give me a hug.”
he ran right for her making her squeal and laugh while running away from him. he eventually caught her in a hug and got her wet. she laughed and hugged him back before going to get ready to leave
Miya: It was nice. I feel like this is the least amount of work any of us had in the past seven years. It was a reminder to sit back and take a break every now and then. To you who is watching this, take a break. Whether it’s by yourself or with friends, take a break. It’ll be good for your body and your mind.
“is it just me, or did the staff suddenly bring in another car?” “i don’t know, mimi. maybe they want us by twos?”
she got into a car with jungkook and hooked her phone up to the aux. they looked at each other for a bit before she played the original version of euphoria, which was their duet they rolled down the windows and sang along
Recording In The Soop:
she sat next to yoongi while they waited for everyone to discuss what they wanted the lyrics to be
they were silently discussing something between themselves
eventually they had her go into the booth to record first
she was in a fit of giggles when they were instructing her “okay okay, i got it, let’s go”
she got it in one go and skipped back to everyone else. she settled herself next to yoongi again and watched the rest of the process
she cringed a little at namjoons narration but cheered “RM!”
she laughed when yoongi ran into the booth “oppa, i could have pressed the start for you”
she couldn’t help it and gave all controls to hoseok. she just kept laughing
when it came to the chorus bit, she and yoongi stayed outside to direct
“oppa, are we gonna make them record adlibs after the soop part?” “probably. you wanna try?” “hmm not really”
namjoon did his adlib and she just bursts out laughing because she didn’t expect it
jungkook kept making adlibs so she laughs and pokes him with her foot “oppa, you better record one”
then it was jungkook’s turn. she snorted “this is gonna be something”
then he actually did it and she just falls out of her chair laughing which just made everyone laugh harder while jimin helped her up
but he fell, too, and cue harder laughter
“oh my god, i can’t”
once they finish jungkook’s adlibs she just “can we get jimin oppa and jinnie oppa to record the main line for the soop part?”
the rest of recording was going well with a whole lot more laughter until yoongi checked everything
“jungkook, yoonmi, get in for harmonies”
she follows jungkook inside while everyone leaves
“what do you two want to do?” “i was thinking we’ll do layers to the soop part” “oh, oppa same. you do the main, i’ll do the higher?”
they recorder the layers smoothly and yoongi clapped for them “good work, kids”

Dancing was always your passion. For as long as you remembered, you enjoying moving your body to rhythm of songs. The way you felt when the music flowed through your body was exhilarating. You hummed to yourself, nodding softly to the beat of the bassline reverberating through your ear drums from your earbuds.
It is in the late hours of the afternoon and you were dancing on stage in the empty auditorium. It became a habit of yours to come by afterschool to just dance. Little did you know, you had an admirer from afar.
You jumped a bit on the spot feeling the stage floor colliding with the balls of your feet relaxing your muscles and loosening your legs. The old stage creaked and moaned under your warmups. Heavy edm and bass were vibrating in your ears. You were in a mood for a more arduous routine. Once your joints and limbs were loosened up, you went at it. Fast and precise movements, intricate and hard hitting footwork, even some acrobatics. The worn wood of the stage struggled to hold itself together after years of use. After a heavy landing, the wood frame and support finally snapped and splintered under the impact. Instinctively, you let out a scream when you felt your foot and ankle become swallowed by the floor and feeling yourself collapsing through the weak wood. You hit your head in the process as you land flat on your back under the stage. You let out a loud groan of pain as you felt your limbs burn and throb from the impact.
"Wow, that was a nasty spill," a male voice chuckled out.
You jolted in surprise from the sudden voice. The action sent you groaning in pain. You felt your head sting and throb from where it impacted with the stage.
"Did it hurt?" the man smiled with a gummy smile.
You cracked an eye open to meet the dark haired man before you. He smiled at you wholeheartedly as he sat there cross legged.
Your head throbbed in protest as you press a palm to the forming bump.
"Noooooo," you responded sarcastically. "I don't know what you're talking about."
"I meant when you fell from heaven?" The male smirked.
"Very funny," you huffed. "Who the fuck are you? And why are you sitting beneath the stage? Are you a troll?"
"I prefer a being from the upside down."
"Nerd," you huffed.
"I'm Lee Know. Now," he paused, perking up a bit and pulled his crossed legs closer to him with his hands. "I gave you something of mine, now you have to do the same in return."
"You're not getting my name that easily," you stood up slowly and dusted yourself off.
"How about you give me your heart?" He smiled. The smile he gave was genuine with no signs of ill intent or mischievousness. Even so, you can't help but deadpan at the male.
"I don't even know who you are," you pulled yourself out of the hole and hoisted yourself back up on the stage.
Men.
~
"Did it hurt when you fell from heaven?" Lee Know smiled fondly at you.
"Again, Lee Know? How was the crawl up from hell? Because you are insufferable," you grimaced, walking away.
Lee Know smirked at your turned back and he followed close behind joining you at your side.
"What do you want?" you rolled your eyes at the man.
"Just wanna talk," he grinned.
You scoffed in response.
"Do you like raisins?"
You stopped in place and faced him with your eyebrows furrowed in confusion.
"What kind of question is that? That isn't someone you would ask for small talk."
Lee Know shrugged. "Guess raisins isn't really your style. How about a date?"
"Oh. My. God!" you exclaimed annoyed. "I can't believe you."
"Ok ok, I'm sorry," Lee Know laughed, his eyes crinkled from his large smile. "On a more serious note though. My phone's being a spaz lately. Can you check it out?"
Lee Know rummaged through his pant pockets to pull out the mobile device and handed it to you.
"I guess, what's your problem?" you examined the phone front and back. It didn't look to be too too damage save the one long thin crack that traveled from the bottom left corner to the top right corner. It didn't look to be too serious where it affected the screen. His lock screen display of 3 cats also proved the screen was functioning perfectly fine. You couldn't help but crack a smile at the adorable furry displays.
"I think it's broken because it doesn't have your number."
You dropped Lee Know's phone on the spot without hesitation.
~
"Dude, check out this new shirt I got. It was on a nice hot sale of like 5 bucks," Lee Know laughed.
"Nice," you replied monotonously without sparing him a glance.
Now a days, you've been spending more time with Lee Know. It turns out that the empty auditorium was both your escape from the stress of life and school. You would mind your own business dancing with earbuds in and Lee Know would sit in one of the many rows of seats, lounging his feet on the seat in front of him and typing away at his phone.
"Dude, seriously check out the material. I had really low expectations due to the price."
"What is it made out of?" you asked, taking a bite out of your apple.
Lee Know set aside the lunch tray to give you a clearer view of his shirt. He looked down with a slight pout as he pulled at the material. He let out a stifled laughed as he looked up to you.
"Boyfriend material," he grinned, obviously proud of his pick up line.
"Ah, I see," you paused momentarily. "Clingy and annoying to deal with."
"Have you started on your computer science project yet?" Lee Know asked, taking a bite out of his macaroni and cheese, totally ignoring your remark.
"Not yet, I was going to do it tomorrow."
"It's due the day after." Lee Know frowned, crossing his arms.
"Procrastination at its finest," you shrugged.
"You want to work on it today at the library then? Like after lunch?" Lee Know offered.
"Yeah, sure. Because I know I'm not going to do it when I get home. Hopefully a computer would be free."
"You could rent out a laptop," Lee Know informed.
"You could do that?"
"Yeah, you just need your library card."
"Oh, dang. I don't have mine on me," you sighed, your shoulders slumped in defeat.
"I have mine. Thank god I do, because I need it to check you out."
"You're seriously annoying, you know that right?" you spat, glaring at him.
"But you love me," he hummed, smirking at you and rested his chin in the palm of his hand as he leaned forward to look deep into your eyes.
"As if. What do you want, so you can shut up," you grumbled.
"A date. Just one. That's all I ask for," Lee Know looked at you with pleading eyes.
You let out a dry chuckle.
"As if. I wouldn't go out with you unless you were the last person on Earth," you glared at him. You grabbed your backpack, slinging it over your shoulder and grabbing your lunch tray before turning to leave.
Lee Know gazed at your turned back with a prominent frown on his face. His eyes held a deep sadness and a familiar clenching pain bubbled within his chest.
You sighed to yourself. You almost felt bad rejecting him in that manner in the canteen in front of other people who probably witnessed your outburst. You weren't entirely opposed to the idea of going out on a date with him to get to know him better. Something about him was alluring. Maybe it was his perfectly styled black hair and parted bangs. Maybe it was his cat like features and a feline like gummy smile. Maybe it was the sound of his laughter and the sight of him doubling over in laughter as his eyes squinted shut and tear up.
Not only that, Lee Know was actually pleasant to talk to when he didn't use bad pick up lines every other sentence. You found out that you both share the same interest and passion for dance. Like you, he had been dancing ever since he could walk. You enjoyed the random freestyle dances you both would do almost everyday. You were impressed at his skill. Never would you have thought he would be a dancer as well.
If only he wasn't so damn annoying with his pick up lines.
A car pulled up in front of you and rolled down the passenger side window. Within revealed a casual dressed man with dark locks looking at you questioningly.
"Uber for Y/N?" the dark hair male asked from the driver seat.
"Yea, thanks," you smiled politely.
The male smiled softly in return and briefly stepped out. He did a light jog to your side and opened the door for you in the back and gestured for you in.
"Thank you," you bowed your head in thanks, stepping into the car.
"This address, correct?" the male showed you the display on his phone after he returned back to the driver's seat to double check that the address you inputted in your request was correct.
"Yes, that's correct," he nodded in response and started heading towards your desired destination.
"Thank you so much," you stated stepping out of the car and gathering your material.
"No problem, if you ever need a lift, feel free to call again," the man smiled.
Pulling out your earbuds and inserting them into your ear, you played a random song from your playlist. Suddenly, you heard loud tire screeching and honking. You let out a sudden yelp when the loud familiar sound of impact ripped out through the air. With your heart hammering in your chest, you whipped around. The sight before you were two cars that were totaled, one of which was your Uber driver's with the driver side of the car extremely indented in. You could see faint trails of red seeping out of the impact. The other car who had ran the red light had the front of the car done in. The driver of the car was slumped over the wheel. It appeared the airbag hadn't gone off so his head was split open and bleeding. His dull dead eyes seemed to be staring at you as you let out a loud scream.
Suddenly, you were pulled into someone's arms as they turned you away from the sight and clamping a hand over your eyes.
"Shhh, don't look. Don't look," Lee Know's comforting voice whispered into your ear. He pulled you closer to his chest as you heaved and sobbed. The last thing you heard was Lee Know dialing the authorities to report a car crash before you were lost within your sobs.
~
With a protective arm around your shoulder, Lee Know led you into a cafe that was quite a bit from the crash. You were still sobbing and shaking in his arms. He held you up as your knees occasionally buckled and your legs gave out.
"Move," a gruff voice rang out as he shoved your shaken form into Lee Know.
"Hey, asshole! Watch where you're going!" Lee Know spat at the man. The man turned revealing him to be none other than Han Jisung with a scowl in his face. He and two other practically ruled the school. They were called 3RACHA, they were practically untouchable and every lady wants them and every men want to be them.
"Then don't stand there," Jisung mockingly remarked and waltzed into the cafe without another care in the world.
"Asshole," Lee Know grumbled under his breath watching the jock head into the hallways leading to the back.
Lee Know fished out his wallet and pulled out a couple of bills and placed them into your shaking hands.
"Buy yourself some hot chocolate, ok? Find a seat for the both of us too. I need to use the restroom real quick," he said in a soft voice.
You sniffled and nodded slowly. You watched Lee Know for a bit as he walked off to the back towards the hallway with a hanging sign labelled restrooms.
"Hey, welcome to Yellow Woods… cafe. Y/N?" the sound of the barista's voice saying your name made you jump for a bit. You turned to him and it was Hwang Hyunjin, himself. He was your dance partner for your dance classes every other day, but worked part time as a barista after school. He mentioned he worked part time after school a few times when you tried to set up a convenient time for you both to practice your dance routine or just to dance in general, but he never really said what his job was.
"Are you alright?!" Hyunjin ran around the counter to hold you steady by the shoulders. "Y/N talk to me, you're pale as a sheet and you're shaking so much."
"I'm not… I'm not ready to talk about it," you whispered out, your voice betraying you. The image of the impact and the two dead drivers were still fresh in your mind. You couldn't help but feel that, if you decided to go straight home, you would've in that crash as well. You could've possibly died. Your eyes welled up at the scary thought. You always feared death, so you lived life to the fullest.
"Ok… ok…" he spoke out softly and slowly to not overwhelm you. "You know, you can talk to me whenever you feel ready."
You nodded softly.
"Do you need anything?"
"Just… two hot chocolates…" you whispered out and you held out the bills Lee Know handed you with shaky hands.
Hyunjin gently clasped your shaky hands in between his much larger ones.
"No need. It's on the house. It's the least I could do," Hyunjin smiled softly, prompting you to smile back.
"Uhh," Lee Know's voice rang out through the air. He gazed at both your clasped hands as you smiled at each other in close proximity with an unreadable expression.
Hyunjin quickly released your hands and turned to him.
"Hello, you both can choose anywhere you like," Hyunjin stood to the side and gestured to the empty seats with an arm outstretched. "Your drinks will be ready in a minute."
Lee Know nodded and led you to a corner seat under the sun's rays. You sighed in content feeling the warmth of the sun.
"You alright?" He asked softly.
Not trusting your voice, you nodded.
"Here are your drinks," Hyunjin came over with two mugs of hot chocolate, each dolloped with a neat swirl of whipped cream. He gently set the mug in front of you both and pulled out a couple of napkins from his apron and setting it before you both.
You both thanked him as he walked away.
"So… who was that?" Lee Know didn't want to intrude or sound imposing, but he believed it was a better option to get your mind off of things with small talk.
"He's Hyunjin, my dance partner in class," you spoke, cupping the mug in your hands feeling the warmth spreading to your fingertips. "We're not that close, but he's a nice person with a big heart. We tried to get together and dance for the hell of it afterschool, but he's always busy with his job."
"I see, we could dance together if you want?" Lee Know offered with a small smile.
You let out a small huff after taking a small sip of your beverage. "You seemed perfectly fine being occupied by your phone every time we're there."
"I was typing out a paper about the finer things in life. You know because I don't procrastinate like you," Lee Know chuckled.
You shook your head at his attack.
"I was wondering if I could interview you," Lee Know grinned.
"Oh my gooodddd, stop," you whined.
Lee Know smiled at you fondly. He couldn't help but find your whine absolutely adorable. You both spent the rest of the time chatting away the rest of the afternoon with small talk and many many bad pickup lines. Lee Know helped get your mind off of the gruesome accident. The sun began to set behind the horizon. The fading light dyed the skies and clouds a brilliant mix of red and orange as the birds began to settle for the day.
Taking that as a cue to leave, Lee Know spoke up. "It's getting late. Do you want me to walk you home?"
"Yes, please," you whispered.
Lee Know nodded as you both stood up with the empty mugs in your hands as you headed to Hyunjin at the front counter.
"You didn't have to bring it up," Hyunjin spoke out, taking the mugs in his hands.
"It's alright. We don't mind," you whispered out. "I'll see you tomorrow, ok?"
"I'll see you tomorrow," Hyunjin stood up to hug you over the counter. Hyunjin turned away with the mugs in his hands to place them in the sink. When he did, he felt a wave of fatigue wash over him and he suddenly became very dizzy. His legs stumbled a bit as he dropped one of the mugs, the glass shattering on the tiled floor. His other hand flew to the counter to catch his balance.
"H-hyunjin!" you called out grasping his arm gently.
Hyunjin blinked rapidly and shook his head lightly to get rid of the dizziness. He turned to you and let out a lighthearted laugh.
"Whew. Stood up too quickly and got dizzy," he laughed, turning away and placing the other mug in the sink and grabbing a broom to broom away the broken pieces of glass.
"Are you ok?" you asked.
"Yea, I'll see you tomorrow, ok?" Hyunjin smiled warmly and turned his attention back to brooming away the broken glass.
Once Lee Know and you were gone and after he heard the bell on the door ringing as you left, Hyunjin frowned. Hyunjin let out a whine of pain. His hand flew to his hammering chest. The pain felt unbearable. His lungs and heart felt constricted as if his rib cage was contracting and squeezing him from the inside through and through. He let out a shaky gasp as he reached for the counter trying to catch his breath. His legs gave out sending him forward into the counter and ultimately falling to the floor. His flail arms sending most of the items on the counter top to the floor as well. Hyunjin convulced and shook on the floor, his eyes rolled to the back of the head as drool came out of his lips before falling limp with his mouth wide open in a silent scream.
Coincidentally in a similar position, in back restroom in one of the stalls was Han Jisung. From the outside, you could see his spread legs and a hanging arm, but within, Jisung shared a similar fate. He was slumped over the toilet with his head thrown back. His eyes were wide open with his pupils rolled fully to the back of his head and his mouth was slightly gaped open.
The police couldn't detect any foul play. No sort of abnormal physical trauma, so strangulation wasn't an option. A clean tox screen so poison wasn't an option. The two males were perfectly healthy. Neither of them drank or did drugs or have any pre existing illnesses. They just… died.
Hwang Hyunjin and Han Jisung weren't unique cases. Several other people died in the same manner. There were no correlation or causation; several people were dying out of the blue with no connection to one another yet it all seem to gravitate closer and closer to home.
"Are you tired?" Lee Know asked with a protective arm around your shoulders.
"A little bit," you whispered.
"You must be exhausted, because you've been running in my mind all day," Lee Know laughed.
"Stooop," you whined. "You're so annoying."
You both let out a gasp once you've turned the corner on your block. Outside your house, more specifically your neighbor's house, were several emergency vehicles parked in front with some spillage over onto your front lawn.
"Wh-what happened?" you breathed out, running out of his arms towards your parents who were standing outside the barricade. Lee Know followed close behind.
"Hi, sweetie," your mom hugged you.
"Poor thing, the elderly couple have sadly passed away," your dad started. "They were pronounced dead on arrival."
"Are you alright? Who is this?" your mom asked.
"He's a friend. This is Lee-"
"Hello, I'm Lee Minho," he bowed politely introducing himself.
"Min-Minho?" you mouthed at him. He gave you a look that said to not say anything.
"He walked me home," you looked back at your mom.
"Thank you so much. Would you like to stay for dinner?"
"I don't want to intrude," Lee Know bowed apologetically.
"Nonsense, it's the least we could do for walking our child home," your dad butt in.
You both awkwardly chuckled looking at each other.
"So, what do you do, Minho?" your dad asked.
"Oh, I, uhh, I dance," Minho sputtered.
You chuckled inwardly seeing the change of personality. When Lee Know was with you, he was outgoing and confident. Lee Know now was so meek and quiet and looked ready to crap himself.
"Oh, so do you dance with Y/N, then?" your mom asked.
"Uhh, at times," Minho chuckled awkwardly.
"Yea, we do. We freestyle sometimes in the auditorium afterschool," you added on, saving Minho.
"Are you courting Y/N, Minho?" your dad asked causing you both to choke on your drinks.
The awkward silence [by Stray Kids] that followed weighed in the atmosphere. The only noise that could be heard was the clattering of the utensils across the plates and the TV in the corner of the kitchen playing the daily local news.
"... two found dead at Yellow Wood Cafe, adding onto the string of recent abnormal deaths," the newscaster stated in a neutral professional tone.
You turned your attention to the small screen in the corner that displayed the smug face of Han Jisung and the soft smiling face of Hwang Hyunjin.
"Oh my god," your hands flew to cover your gaping mouth as your face contorted and weeped. "Oh my god, Hyunjin, why?"
Hyunjin was fine when you last saw him. He was smiling and laughing just hours before save the strange dizzy spell he told you not to worry about.
"Dear? Are you ok?" your mom quickly stood from her seat. The chair leaned back and clattered against the tiled floor.
"Dad?" you called out in earnest.
Your father heaved. He stood up and slouched over coughing profusely. Parts of his dinner was caught in his throat. He hacked and choked trying to get the food item out but to no avail. His hands flew up to his throat as he clawed and scratched at the flesh there.
"Minho, call the ambulance!" your mom ordered in a panic.
Minho quickly ran to his backpack in the corner and began rummaging through his backpack.
"Lee Know!" you nagged him.
"I'm looking for it, I can't find my phone!" Lee Know stumbled over his words as he rummages through his backpack even more.
"M-mom!" you reached out.
Suddenly your mother fell to her knees as well. Her hands flew to her chest as tears ran down her cheeks. She gasped and wheezed as well. Sooner than later, both of your parents were on the ground gasping and wheezing for air.
"LEE KNOW!"
"I'M LOOKING!"
You turned back to your parents. "Mom, dad! Stay with me!"
Tears were streaming down your face as you tried to keep yourself together. You felt your world falling apart when your father fell flat on his back, his arms falling limp at his sides as he let out a final weak breath and his eyes went dark. Your mom began convulsing and shaking. Her eyes were fully rolled to the back of her head exposing the whites of her eyes as drool dribbled down her chin. Soon, all that was left of your mom was light tremors. Mainly from her nerves, but she herself has passed on.
"No!" you wailed grabbing at your mom's shoulders and alternating between her and your dad, trying to shake them awake.
"Lee Know!" you sobbed.
Lee Know stepped within your vision. His feet came into view by your parents' heads. You looked up to him begging for him to help in anyway. You gasp looking at his blank expression. Within a hand was his backpack and with the other hand, he pulled out his mobile device.
"W-wait, so… you knew where your phone was the entire time?" you sobbed, feeling betrayed.
"Yes," he responded. His voice was unlike all the other times. His voice usually was soft, yet headstrong and passionate but lighthearted and pleasing to the ear. Now, it was as if darkness was dripping from his voice. His tone was monotone, almost cruel and cold.
"W-why?" you sobbed.
Lee Know simply released the items in his possessions, dropping it to the floor with a light clatter.
"I only did the terms you set," he smirked menacingly.
"W-what?"
Letting out a light chuckle, Lee Know fixed his gaze on you; he tilted his head mischievously as you saw a glowing red iris peeking through his dark fringe making eye contact with your wide ones. A dark mist began flowing from the sleeves of his hoodie and his jeans. The dark fog surrounded his body and seemed to condense and come together to something similar to distressed fabric. The dark black fabric draped over his body loosely as a hood formed around his head. His menacing red eyes stared you down as the flesh of his face seemed to dissipate into fog exposing bits of bone underneath. Finally, within his hands, a long dark scythe appeared. The blade was rounded and curved made with what appeared to be a fine silver with the hilt delicate curved.
"W-what are you?" you sobbed out, crawling away from him. Fear wracked your body as your heart hammered in your chest.
"Me?" Lee Know chuckled. "I'm the grim reaper."
"Why? Why are you doing this?"
"You already know why," he let out a sultry chuckle.
You let out a loud gasp. Your eyes widen as you felt your heart skipped a beat. The entire world seemed to weigh down on you and you found it difficult to move a single limb.
"I'd always admired you from afar. I was always nearby anticipating your impending death, but watching you on that stage reminded me of… me. You reminded me of the days where I danced on stage, before I died… from the accident," Lee Know paused, as if he was grieving over his lost life. "You would've died as well, you should have died if it weren't for my interference. When you fell, your head came into contact with one of the supporting beams, breaking your neck, but I saved you."
You finally realized upon looking at his sickly smile.
"Now, I did this favor of saving your from death. It is only fair if I get what I want, yes?"
"I wouldn't go out with you unless you were the last person on Earth."

What do you usually eat for breakfast? Scrambled eggs with spinach and cheese. And coffee, duh. When was the last time you seen your best friend? I see my mom everyday, all the time since we live together. What was the last good movie you watched? I recently rewatched Endgame and Aladdin (the new live action one), both of which are really good. Especially Endgame. Still gets me in the feels. Do you rent movies at a store or on your tv? We sometimes rent from Redbox (the red box thingies with DVDs at grocery stores. I think there’s also Bluebox, too, in some places), but usually we watch on Netflix or rent from Amazon Prime. Have you ever thought about getting Netflix? We’ve had it for years. What do you order on your sundae? I haven’t had a sundae in years, but I liked to just get vanilla ice cream with strawberry syrup. I don’t care for sprinkles. Do you like whipped cream and nuts on it? I like whipped cream and some nuts in general, but I didn’t put either one on my sundaes. *shrug* I’m a simple gal.
How often does your family have cookouts? We did them a lot when I was a kid. My dad used to BBQ quite a bit during the summer and my extended family all got together for BBQs quite often as well. We haven’t done that in years, though. Does anybody in your family have cancer? My papa and one of my cousins both had skin cancer, but they’re fortunately both in remission. What is one genre of music you refuse to listen too? I don’t outright refuse any, but I don’t like techno/EDM/Clubhouse music type stuff. Who is your favorite singer? I don’t have one particular favorite. There are many artists and bands that I enjoy. What is the title of the last book you read? It’s still Burying the Honeysuckle Girls by Emily Carpenter, which has been my answer for months now. I keep meaning to start reading again, but it hasn’t happened, yet. I go through phases where I read a lot and knockout several books and then go awhile without reading at all. I love to read, so I don’t know what my issue is. Do you even read? I do, I just haven’t the last few months. Is your Bzoink account profile decorated? I don’t have one. If so, what’s the backround of? Do you drink Mcdonalds sweet tea? I used to. I haven’t had it in probably almost 10 years, though. Do you like melted cheese on your eggs? Yessss. What do you eat on your popcorn? Butter and salt are absolute musts. Also, this one theater I go to has garlic parm seasoning stuff that is SO good. What do you do on a sunny day? I don’t do anything different, I just do them while complaining about being hot and feeling miserable from the heat. I’m not a summer or outdoorsy person. Do you moisturize everyday? No, but I really should. How long does it take you to get ready for your day? If I’m going somewhere then I just fix my hair (or throw on a hat), brush my teeth, change my clothes, put on deodorant, and put on my shoes. Bam. Done. I very, very rarely bother with makeup anymore or doing anything with my hair other than braid it, put it in a pony tail, throw a hat/beanie on. Do you ever have lazy days? Everyday? But honestly, it’s more that I don’t have energy or motivation to do much of anything. I own up to the fact that I can be lazy, but that’s not the main reason. It seems like laziness on the surface, but it’s deeper than that. Is your bedroom clean right now? It’s a little cluttery right now and it’s driving me nuts. I need to find the energy and motivation to clean up a bit and get rid of some stuff. That’s my main issue with my room I just have too much stuff and not enough space for it. What is one simple word that you usually can never spell? I don’t know if it’s considered “simple”, but for some reason I can’t ever get “omnepoenia” on the first try. <<< That’s my attempt and it’s way off lol. “Onomatopoeia“ is how you spell it. I don’t know why I can’t seem to remember that. I guess maybe because it’s a word I never use except for when I’m asked this question, ha. Do you flip the pillow over for the cold side? Yeah. Do you always have to sleep with a blanket? I haven’t used a blanket most of this summer. What are some things you do before you go to bed? Listen to ASMR and do some surveys. Do you like late night phone conversations? I don’t like talking on the phone at all. Does your room have a blacklight? No. What color are your walls? White. Do you heat up your syrup when you have pancakes or do you like it cold? I just pour it right from the bottle. It doesn’t taste cold to me, but maybe that’s cause the pancakes are the warm. What do ever add anything to your pancakes/waffles? Just butter and syrup. What is your favorite candle scent? Autumnal ones. Are you on any types of medication right now? Just a pain medication. Have you ever suffered from depression? I do suffer from depression and have since I was about 12 or 13. It’s definitely been at its absolute worst these past 4 years. On average, how many surveys do you think you take a day? A lot. haha. Ya’ll already know. Does your town have flea markets? Yeah. What is your favorite sport? None. Do you like to talk on the phone? Nope. Who do you text the most? I rarely text at all, but when I do it’s with one of my parents or my brother. Are you out of school yet? I graduated college back in 2015. Are you watching anybody graduate this year? No. What are your school colors? What makes you smile more than anything? My doggo. If you could change one thing about the past, what would you change? So many things... If you could only eat one thing every single day what would it be? I’ve had a sandwich everyday for lunch for the past 3 months. Do you like spicy things? I used to be obsessed, but I can’t eat spicy foods anymore. D: Do you ever go to Starbucks? Yeah, pretty often. What is the most expensive thing you own? My laptop. What kind of car do you drive? I don’t drive. How long have you had your license? I don’t have my license. What grades do you usually get? I got As and Bs. Do you swim or lay out when your at the beach? I just relax and soak it all in. I love just looking out at the ocean or closing my eyes while listening to the waves crash in. Do you ever get drunk with friends? I used to. I don’t drink anymore, though. It’s been 6 years since the last time. What was the craziest moment of your life? There’s been a few of those moments I’d say. Have you ever spent the night in a hospital? Yeah. I’ve had to stay a few months in the hospital. Is love really that hard to explain? I have a hard time really explaining it. It’s just something I know and feel, but have a hard time putting into words. Describe what your wearing tomorrow: Probably the same thing I’m wearing now, ha. Describe the weather right now. It’s currently 75 F with 12mph winds. If you were having a baby boy, what would you name him? I’m not having children. What is your favorite cuss word? I don’t have a favorite. Do you have a mannnnn? Nope. If so, what’s hiiiis name? Oh by the way, what’s yours? Stephanie. What is on your feet right now? Socks. Do you hate your feet or are they cute? I don’t like them. What does your room look like? It’s a bit cluttery right now. There’s also a lot of giraffe stuffed animals around the room, ha. Do you ever stick your leg out of the blanket when you sleep? I do that with my arms. Do you have any tattoos? Nope. Are you patient or impatient? I’m very impatient. Everybody has that one friend who really isnt there friend, who is yours? I don’t have any friends. Do you ever hang out with somebody just for a ride? No. What time do you wake up in the morning usually? Lately it’s been 10ish, sometimes 11. What is the first thing you do when you wake up? Check the time. Do you eat right away or do you have to wait awhile? No it takes like an hour for me to finally drag myself outta bed for coffee. Then I like to just drink my coffee, read my daily devotional, and check social media for awhile first before I eat. Who makes you smile, no matter what? My doggo. What do you do when your sad? So what do I do everyday: Tumblr, surveys, watch TV, watch YouTube, check social media, sleep... Reading, coloring, listening to music, and playing my Nintendo Switch get thrown into the mix sometimes as well. Where do you spend most of your time? In my room on my bed. Do you ever watch scary movies by yourself? Yeah. It’s so funny because a few short years ago I would never. Like, I wasn’t even really into scary movies because I was a big scardy cat. That changed in recent years; though, and now I love ‘em. Do you drink energy drinks? Just Starbucks Doubleshot. Describe what’s on your floor right now. A stack of some medical supplies. Do you have any pets? Yes, I have a doggo. If so, what are they doing right now? She’s sleeping on her couch. Is there anybody in the room with you? Nope. Do you like chicken snack wraps from Mcdonalds? I’ve never had one. Do you drink coffee fraps? [yuck] I like frappes, but it’s been awhile since I’ve had one. Where are you from? California. Have you ever moved? To a different city for a short time when I was a baby, but that’s it. If you mean houses, then I’ve moved like 4 or 5 times, but only once that I’m old enough to remember. What is your favorite youtube video? I have a lot. ok, 90 questions .. is that enough? Sure. Siiiiike, I foooled you - Can you take a joke? I’m not bothered by the fact there’s not 90 questions so yeah I don’t care. What is your favorite song from the 90’s? I have many. If you could meet any celeb who would it be? Alexander Skarsgard. Which celeb would you like to smack in the face? I don’t want to smack anyone. Lady Gaga : creep or badass Why would she be considered a creep? lol. Anyway, I like some of her music and she seems pretty cool. Do you have a poker face? In certain situations. Have you ever played texas hold em - If so, did you like it? I’ve never played. What do you do to pass the time when your bored? I’ve already listed recently all the things I do each day and it’s the same whether I’m bored or not. Are you ever bored or are you easily entertained? I get bored, but generally I’m content doing my usual things I do each day. Somedays; though, even those things just don’t cut it and the days seem to drag extra slow and I’m not in the mood to do anything at all. Which friend is most like you? I don’t have any friends. Do you have a lot of things hanging on your wall? I have a few things. Do you think your pretty or ugly? rate yourself 1-10. I think I’m pretty ugly. ha. Because, you know every guy is looking for a dime piece, right? Not every guy is only concerned with looks. Was you a ugly kid back then but banging now? I thought I was a cute kid until middle school. HA, I’m definitely not “banging” now. Are you a rude bitter person? I can certainly be bitter. Sometimes I do get short or snippy when I’m in my moody moods, but I wouldn’t say I’m a rude person in general. What color is your house phone? One is white and the other is black. Do you have a answering machine if so, what does it say? Yeah. It’s just one of the automated ones that was already programmed on there. How do you like your toast? Browned, but not burnt, with butter. How many candles are in the room that your in? 4. That’s a lot for someone who never lights candles lol. Does your bedroom have a computer in it? Yep, this laptop right here that I’m on. What color is the computer your using right now? It’s silver with a rose gold protective case. What is your favorite muffin? Banana (without the nut), blueberry, and lemon poppyseed.

What you will see in this article is really the very beginning...
youtube
What you will see in this article is really the very beginning of hardbass culture. Hardbass is essentially sub genre of electronic music, which obviously originated in Russia, someplace in 2000’s. It is defined with fast pace, strong bass beats (AKA donk bass), with periodic lyrics. Dress code is generally budgety outfit, the majority of typically Adidas tracksuit. Holy carriers of hardbass culture are gopniks, which are typically seen crouching in groups, drinking and, obviously, doing hardbass. Here in next few minutes you will learn everything about the normal gopnik specimen in his natural environment. As we said, hardbass began to establish in Russia, precisely in St. Petersburg, with leaders like DJ Snat, Sonic Mine and X Job. After few years, it began to spread out through VKontakte, Russians version of Facebook, and by 2010, numerous “copycat” artists and videos of EDM songs began to sprout all over Russia, Ukraine and Belarus. Individuals were crouching and pump dancing in classrooms, busses, work stations, malls, basically everywhere. In the future, people began doing this pump dancing thing at famous landmarks and places in their home town to reveal something in your city that you’re proud off, and to show that you like your city. In some nations hardbass was used for a slightly different purpose, like a form of public rebellion, such as in Serbia, where people were utilizing it to oppose about Kosovo, or Chile, where trainees utilized it to protest against the federal government cutting funds for education. However, in all fairness, EDM music is a type of (hillarious) dance and we should use it and comprehend it as a type of socializing and home entertainment, while expressing yourself! A few of the most popular artists nowadays are DJ Blyatman, XS Project, Hard Bass School, YURBANOID, Celebration Factory etc. Get in your Adidas, get a bottle of beer and hardbass the night away! It all began as a type of joke that went too far– four people from St. Petersburg were trying to mock stereotypical gopniks (low-life Russian criminals) but ended up winning their appreciation rather, and after that the entire thing went viral worldwide. You have actually most likely seen it, a minimum of in a video. A number of men and sometimes ladies worn tracksuits, their faces frequently covered with masks or balaclavas, collect in a circle and move their bodies (or in some cases just their heads) to really loud and primitive music with unique basslines and a quick pace. The whole picture is attractive as hell.
What is a Gopnik?
Gopnik is a stereotype and subculture in Russia, Ukraine, Belarus and other former Soviet republics to describe boys of sometimes lower-class suburban areas originating from families of poor education and earnings.
Ignore ballet. In the 2010s, it was an uniquely Russian kind of music called hard bass that conquered the world. However before this, it discovered its way to the hearts and ears of countless Russian individuals. In a very unusual way. As frequently happens in Russia, people took something foreign and then Russified everything the way to the bitter end. Hard bass traces its roots back to pumping house, a Western-born genre of techno with a fast pace and rhythmic bass area (Klubbheads are a good example of pumping home). But then it encountered some severe Russian culture phenomena. Paradoxically, for the innovators of hard bass, integrating Western rhythms with the tracksuit clothing used by gopniks (petty goons or scallies) was simply the method to have a laugh. As Lenta.ru put it, the hard bass movement was originally planned as mockery of the “rave gopniks” who would participate in huge rave parties however had no concept what rave culture was originally about (peace, love and techno). Therefore it was that in 2010 4 young people living St. Petersburg published a video on Youtube teasing the absurd dancing of gopniks– moving your ankles around and stomping your legs back and forth. While dancing, it is also essential to make an unique gesture with your hands clenched into fists and just a thumb and little finger extending. The “song” that they carried out to was quite simple: “Raz-raz-raz, eto hard bass!” (something like “Hey-hey-hey, this is hard bass!” in English) but it likewise consisted of a bit of healthy lifestyle propaganda. The guys pointed out that their archenemies are different kinds of chemically produced drugs and that they drink only kvass. Obviously, this too was a joke making fun of gopniks’ pride in their apparently healthy lifestyle– healthy primarily in the sense that they wear tracksuits every day.
Perhaps the paradox was too subtle though because lots of real gopniks who viewed the video didn’t detect it and related to it on a genuine level. No drugs, a basic dance and music to run over the ground to– what’s not to like? Therefore it was that this weird new design, purposefully elegant and ridiculous, started to grow in popularity. With time, the circumstance grew pretty intricate, with 2 separate kinds of hardbass music fans emerging– those who sincerely liked it and those who were teasing it. In some cases the line between them was (and is) very thin, so now when you see the latest funny video with a lot of individuals dancing to hard bass in tracksuits, it is hard to inform if they are severe hardline gopniks or simply fooling around. The hard bass fan website hardbas.ru informs us “It is the pursuit of favorable energy and objection to fool oneself with drugs that lags the hard bass philosophy. Hard bass will help make your life better and more favorable.” That seems a little pretentious, but who we are to evaluate? Then suddenly, the author diverts off in a dubious political instructions: “In numerous cities, hard bass is likewise a Russian alternative to Lezginka (a nationwide Caucasian dance that people of Caucasian origin in some cases perform in the streets).” There are conservative activists amongst hard bass fans, and in 2013 they even attempted to perform “a hard bass protest” dance in the center of Moscow but were apprehended by the authorities. Nonetheless, hard bass is, as a general rule, not about politics. It helped Russia draw attention from the West, albeit in a strange method. Numerous Youtube blog writers now simulate the Russian accent and explain how to behave like a real Russian patsan (a more considerate term that gopniks usage to describe each other) by squatting, consuming sunflower seeds, using Adidas tracksuits and, naturally, dancing to some premium hardbass music. Just remember that this all began as a parody. What basically began as a Russian take on hard house has spread out across the world through social networks and developed into a form of viral demonstration. Local hard bass crews arrange flash mobs called “mass attacks,” where packs of masked youths “pump dance” strongly in public while baffled passerbys pick up speed and try their finest to prevent eye contact. The entire routine is filmed and published onto YouTube, where– instead of curl up and pass away under a barrage of keyboard warrior hate– it’s managed to motivate new hard bass crews that have sprouted westward across the continent.
What is hardbass music?
Hardbass or hard bass (Russian: хардбасс, tr. hardbass, IPA: [xɐrdˈbas] is a subgenre of electronic music which originated from Russia during the late 1990s, drawing motivation from UK hard house, bouncy techno, Scouse home, and hardstyle. Hardbass has become a central stereotype of the gopnik subculture. Originating in Saint Petersburg in the early 2000s, hard bass resembles every other range of generic dance music popular with young Europeans who dress solely in budget plan sportswear: 150-160 BPM, four-to-the-floor beats, and tacky ‘90s synths. This is generally Russian donk. The only real distinction is that instead of hearing a Boltonion drawl chewing on a Greggs cheese-and-onion piece tell you to “put a donk on in it,” you periodically get a Russian MC spitting something in Cyrillic that I have actually been too frightened to penetrate Google translate. Championed by home-grown manufacturers like DJ Snat, Sonic Mine, and XS Job, regional record label Jutonish was your one-stop purchase all your hard bass requirements. By all accounts, hard bass would not remove beyond Saint Petersburg for the next couple of years, and even Muscovites appeared to prefer listening to the noise of rusting Soviet equipment grind into disrepair over the St. Pete’s sound, but eventually, hard bass’ mundanity would be what moved it into the international awareness.
The truth that you could drop a hard bass track at a gabba night in Holland, or a poky rave in Spain, indicated that there was a lot of cross-pollination in between the scenes, with European DJs dipping into hard bass celebrations in Russia and vice-versa. This is how Dr. Poky, the primary face at Sound Makers records, marched from a sea of gurning faces and ended up being the hard bass messiah, preaching the pump bass gospel through a grassroots Facebook marketing campaign. Initially from Russia’s eastern steppes, Dr. Poky first relocated to Madrid, where he went far for himself as DJ in the local “poky” scene, before ultimately settling in France. It was on an eventful trip to Russia that he first experienced the infamous hard bass “pumping dancers.” “When I DJed in Russia in 2009, I saw some video on the internet of two or three guys dancing in the street to hard bass as a joke,” Dr. Poky told me over Skype, “They put the video on the internet, on a program called VKontakte.” If you’re not familiar with bootleg social networks platforms, VKontakte is Russia’s answer to Facebook, with a 195 million profile-strong following, largely based in Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Moldova and Kazakhstan. Hard bass now had an audience, and as we’ve seen in the after-effects of “Gangnam Style” and Soulja Kid, with sufficient inexpensive laughs and a viral video, you too can leave your grubby mark on the worldwide linked loins of modern-day popular culture.
By 2010 copycat videos started appearing in Belarus, Ukraine, and throughout Russia. Pumping dancers were pump-dancing in class, in shopping malls, on public transport, on football pitches, and even on the actions of the National Academic Bolshoi Opera and Ballet Theatre in Minsk. Groups could be as small as three or four dudes (and it’s pretty much always men) or as huge as numerous lots, however the general goal is to get as lots of people as possible pump-dancing at an innovative location that nobody has ever tried before, or somewhere where you make the greatest problem out of yourself– and if you don’t get it on video, it didn’t happen. Simply in case you’re having trouble imagining pump dancing, let me simplify for you: think of a lot of hunched-over guys treading grapes, arms bent at the elbow, hands formed into beach bottom “hang loose” gestures, casually flailing their forearms up and down. That’s pump dancing. Straight from the off, a few common threads started emerging; the pumping dancers were constantly big on reppin’ either their country or their native city, and most of the videos were recorded at distinct regional landmarks most likely to include in regional tourist board pamphlets. “It has to do with showing the city where you live, the piece de resistances, to reveal it’s genuine. This is my city and I like it– we dance to hard bass here too,” exposes Dr. Poky. Another commonality was an overarching sense of masculine aggressiveness, and spending plan sportswear. Mass attacks appear like fight scenes from hooligan flicks like The Football Factory. In one Ukrainian video, two groups of hooded youths approach each other in a city underpass, hands raised overhead and chanting as if there’s a lot of obscenely overpaid professional athletes kicking a ball around nearby. After a brief pause, they charge at their equivalents in a relocation that reminds me of a wall of death that I saw at an Agnostic Front program when I was 15, before breaking into fits of pump-dancing upon effect. It’s like seeing a musical adaptation of the 2011 London summer season riots composed by Blackout Crew. In all fairness, this isn’t just special to EDM music; among gabba’s most significant anthems is “Rotterdam Thug” by the Rotterdam Terror Corps that samples the impassioned chants of Feynoord fans. Pondering hard bass’ withstanding appeal with football punks, Dr. Poky explains, “It’s simple for them to bring people and make a video. It’s low-priced promo to demonstrate how hard they are.” I’m pretty sure dancing hasn’t been utilized to intimidate people since the Jets and Sharks threw down in West Side Story, but whatever.
At some time in late 2010, hard bass slipped under the digital Iron Curtain and made its method onto YouTube, pump dancing into the cumulative worldwide consciousness. Over the course of 2011, hard bass teams sprouted in Slovakia, Serbia, Lithuania, and the Czech Republic. In Belgrade, one mass attack attracted around 200 barely-pubescent kids, while others took place as far away as France, Spain, and even Chile. Mass attacks were increasingly taking place outside of federal government buildings and, to the untrained eye, should have appeared like political demonstrations by means of ham-fisted line dancing. Were they trying to say something to political leaders? Dr. Poky explains: “Some people make videos due to the fact that they enjoy hard bass and want share it with the world, however some other people use it to promote their own program. In Chile, trainees used it to protest against the federal government cutting money for education, in Serbia for example, some of them used videos to oppose about Kosovo.” The first crew to explicitly use hard bass as a political platform were Russian group Hard Bass School,“ who saw themselves as an eastern bloc Minor Threat. As Dr. Poky elaborated: "You have some video on Internet with a man smoking cigarettes, then some person comes and states 'Why do you squander your money and time smoking cigarettes or taking drugs? You need to be wearing a Hard Bass School t-shirt and dancing to Hard Bass!’” Yeah, let’s get high on tee shirts! In Belgium, Jeune Nation, the Hitler Youth-esque junior wing of Francophone nationalist movement, COUNTRY, use0 electronic music in their nonstop battle versus Islam. With Halal dietary standards becoming progressively typical in supermarkets and school kitchens across Charleroi, they unceremoniously took the streets last April wearing pig masks and staged a mass attack in defense of their inalienable right to pork products. Political gains were limited, however sighs of exasperated offense were at an all time high. Over in the Czech Republic, anti-authoritarian hard bass teams are persuaded that the recession marks the start of a counter-cultural revolution, as Mord explains: “Society is staggering on the edge. Today’s financial crisis is not simply a cost-effective problem; it’s a crisis of culture. We believe that this crisis is a significant one which a huge social shift and transformation is on the horizon. We want to contribute.”
Okay, however isn’t pump dancing a bit of an unclear way to make a declaration? Why do not you make some banners and scream cute slogans like everybody else does? Team member Mord argues, “That’s simply another system-approved form of habits. How can you protest against the system if you continue to play it’s game? How you want to alter rules if you behave by the rules? Take a look at the Occupy Wall Street motion. Where are they now? What did they in fact attain?” However how precisely is rhythmically simulating the early stages of the red wine making procedure a much better revolutionary tactic than civil disobedience? “Think about the symbolic power! Groups of masked individuals making noise and dancing where they’re not supposed to is a lot more outrageous than ten times as many individuals marching with banners and screaming slogans! We are provoking people to think a bit more about what they see around them; people are desensitized to opposing crowds, however everyone responds to hard bass.” Though Nenad, from Serbia’s hard bass team, included a more level-headed answer: “To us, it’s a type of interacting socially and home entertainment and it lets us reveal our viewpoint. We won’t alter anything, but at least we get to reveal our position.”
What is EDM music?
Electronic dance music, likewise known as dance music, club music, or simply dance, is a broad series of percussive electronic music categories made mainly for bars, raves and festivals. And I guess that’s the real point of EDM music– it’s just kids trying to run the hormonal onslaught of adolescence as best they can and hope it brings them some sort of purpose and belonging. When one Prague hard bass crew got together to go garbage selecting in a regional forest, I don’t think a lot of them really provided a shit about the environment, or dreamt of trolling Japanese whaling vessels with the Sea Shepherd Preservation Society, they probably simply wanted to hang out with their pals. Due to the fact that, basically, adolescence sucks and not everybody gets to be prom queen, so why not indulge in hard bass?

Day 2
CoStar message of the day: Correct all your time-wasting at your job
Woke up this morning pretty damn hungover, but knew it was something I’d be able to overcome with the right attitude. Didn’t get out of bed until around 11, and started off with two tall glasses of water. At around noon, my boyfriend (Chip) and I made scrambled eggs with sausage, cheese, mushrooms, and onions. We usually use ham instead of sausage, but he just went to Aldi for the first time and was very excited about his new food, so we were able to switch it up for a change. While we ate, we consumed a new Netflix show called “The Righteous Gemstones”. We’re only two episodes in and not entirely sure how we feel about it (it’s very crazy), but it’s pretty funny so we’re gonna stick with it. We had a long conversation with his roommate about them wanting to get a pet, and spontaneously drove to PetSmart to check out their selection of animals. We gave every animal there an equal chance, but spent a large majority of our time in the reptile section because they were the most interesting. The was one chameleon who I really really vibed with (he winked at me several times), but Chip decided that their lifespan was too long and too much of a commitment to purchase on a whim so we left empty handed unfortunately. He’s still taking some time to think everything over and decide if he really sees a lizard in his future.
On the way back, we planned to consume Arby’s. Chip was shocked and appalled to find that after driving up to the drive through, the dollar menu was no longer available and was stunned into silence as the lady behind the microphone questioned what he wanted. In a panic, we ended up driving away and never looked back. No Arby’s was consumed that day. Instead, we drove back to North Loop where a pregame for the bars was starting to assemble without our knowledge. For the next couple of hours, I consumed a lot of conversation about EDM concerts and molly while a lot of alcohol was being consumed by others around me. Usually I’m not one to refuse a beer but after the whole Arby’s and chameleon drama, all I wanted to do was cook some dinner and watch a movie. We started to cook a meal amongst the loud music and chaos, and eventually we able to make and quickly consume two small steak fillets wrapped in bacon, some sliced and seasoned baked potatoes, and some grilled mushrooms and onions for the side. I ate mine a little more medium rare than Chip did, mostly because I was too hungry to put it back on the grill and was willing to suffer the consequences. We consumed the movie “You Don’t Mess with the Zohan” which was both raunchy and hilarious. We ended the night with the gopher game and eventually fell asleep on the couch.

Would you take this bet?
My husband sent me the link to this video this morning and I’ve finally gotten around to watching it. He’s not here at the moment though to talk about and I started writing this big long text but then I thought, “What the hey? It’s been a while since I’ve written a blog, let’s turn this into a blog.”
I suspect I know why he’s sent it to me, and if I’m right it’s actually quite sweet of him. But to the question at hand: Would you take this bet? Watch the video first to check it out.
youtube
Anyway, the funny thing was that in the first minute of watching this I immediately thought, “Yes, I’d do it.” Three main reasons:
1) Shits and giggles. Why not.
2) It’s only $10. I can go without three coffees (well, 2.5) this week if I lose it.
3) $10 is less than the sandwich.
The sandwich. I am still dark about the sandwich. I think about my poor sandwich often.
It was a few months ago now, and my patience was wearing very thin with a colleague. He had, once again, left the team to deal with the consequences of his big mouth, lack of personal responsibility, and lack of backbone. This had been going on for months at this point, but had gotten particularly bad over the prior few weeks. So, for the first time in about a fortnight, I decided to get up, go outside, go for a walk and sit down somewhere to enjoy some lunch in peace and quiet by myself. Maybe find a newspaper to read or a chattering bird to listen to.
So I got up and eventually found myself in a cafe not far away from the office, but away from the usual lunchtime paths of my colleagues so I could just be left alone for half an hour. When I was seated with the menu though, I realised that I was in that state I get in sometimes where I’m so on edge that I can’t eat and the thought of eating makes me feel sick. I knew I had to though - I hadn’t eaten anything decent in days and for the past few weeks had been practically living off flat whites and wine.
I ordered a chicken and avocado grilled sandwich, nothing fancy, and was a little galled at the $14 price point. It did however come with the choice of salad or chips, and I decided I’d do myself a favour for a change and got the salad.
Eventually after a small wait my sandwich arrived. I half-heartedly picked up and ate two pieces of baby spinach and half a cherry tomato (it’s odd that I remember this so vividly, to be honest. Must speak to how annoyed I was!), before attempting something in between a nibble and a small bite of the sandwich.
I was still chewing it when irresponsible spineless colleague called me. I ignored it. Then the messages started. Where was I? I’m needed back at the office straight away. What was the answer to this question? Had I redrafted the explanatory letter yet? Edits were just sent.
(I’d seen the email notification that said edits had come through immediately before the call, and I chose to ignore it so it could be Elise-in-half-an-hour’s-time’s problem, given that - from a reputation-management point of view - there was little chance he would be adding anything of value anyway.)
Then another call I ignored, then another text, “Need you in office now.”
I got up and went to counter to ask if they could please put my sandwich and salad in a doggy bag so that I might be able to eat it at my desk because apparently the world was collapsing. They kindly did, and off I went.
When I arrived back at the office, I discovered that said colleague had also gone out for lunch. The total elapsed time of me being absent from my desk had been a little under 20 minutes. I gritted my teeth and set to work checking the edits and then all afternoon back-and-forth, back-and-forth this ridiculous letter went. It was supposed to be getting approved by the Board, and the instructions were that it absolutely had to go out by EDM that day, but by 6pm we still hadn’t gotten approval. I sent my junior home and said I could send it, she’d already set it all up for me in the EDM system and I’d hopefully just have to make whatever tweaks were requested and press send. Spineless colleague had left just before 6pm because he had something, like, super important that he had to do that night.
In the meantime I’m still drafting material to try and limit the blow of colleague’s stupidity, while trying to work on the actual work I also had to do. By 8pm, I still hadn’t heard from anyone that it could be sent, and as I had an hour and 10 min commute home, I decided to leave.
It was then I looked over to my right and remembered the sandwich. I opened it up, and it was so miserable with all the salad dressing and oil from the melted cheese having seeped into the bread and the avocado all munted, that I decided I wasn’t going to eat that on the train, and so I just threw it out. And while I was doing it, all I could think was, “I might as well have just taken $14 out of my wallet and thrown that in the bin instead.”
Just to sweeten the whole story, despite my following up every few hours for days, the letter didn’t get sent out until about a week later.
Eventually I quit.
So yes, I would take that $10/$10 bet. It’s not as much as the sandwich, and at least you get a bit of a game out of it! But if I lost, I wouldn’t take the bet again.

day 3: its 3:47am on day 4 and i forgot to write my daily post
really really really trying hard to make this a habit (just for april)
so fail but lol
here’s my post for today
i went to a yoga class tonight in santa clara and it was the yogi’s first time and she was so good omg!
not quite as good as my fave instructor of all time (the bae lauren at moxie yoga in sf)
but yeah kimberly at corepower santa clara square might make me a regular!
(which honestly is super great because i went to class with norma and it was awful LOL) (she played like hardcore edm at a chill class??) (to be fair it was also a level 2 class and i was struggling a little and kimberly’s class was a level 1....)
(oh i went to whole foods in the same plaza right after and ngl im starting to really enjoy just physically being in those fancy ass supermarkets. i went to a new to me nob hill after orangetheory surprisingly also in santa clara ----theyre just nice and clean and beautiful. however spending $45 to get way less stuff than a 99 ranch or something still feels way wrong. i got bananas cashew milk chia seed refill 18 brown eggs (anthony likes the brown ones idk) natural deodorant (cause native has been sucking hard) ginger tofu mushrooms orange juice fancy sprouted bread shredded cheese actually ok when i list that all out its a decent amount for whole foods. the stuff is just smaller yknow like the presliced white mushrooms were $1 for easily like 3 or so oz less)
anyway i find this funny because when i started dating anthony in 2015 he would go to nob hill markets and always claim it was his favorite market (because the chicken he would buy from there would never go bad etc). i thought he was like idk rich af -- to be fair he went to stanford 2x and has his masters and is 2 years older so yeah he is definitely more privileged than me. like i didnt have a preference for cage free brown eggs like i never had the money to spend the extra $1 or 2 on that shit when i was slaving at starbucks AND a second office job.
its really weird how money changes your life. its 2019 and i finally hit the 100k 6 figure mark. it’s honestly been a STRUGGLE to get here, but i’ve learned a lot along the way -- primarily that you HAVE to negotiate and generally just get paid more to improve your life. anyway yeah money doesn’t solve problems but it generally reduces your mental calories and makes things way more convenient.
before when i was poorer, i would have to go out of my way to make sure i was getting the cheapest shell gasoline in the area (still gotta have standards and not give into that arco bullshit). i would never go into whole foods or places like that because my dollar had to stretch further. whenever i would go out with friends before i’d have to be SUPER mindful of what i ordered and i would be EXTRA annoyed when you go out in a group and when splitting venmo people wouldnt pay the extra gratuity and i’d factor in me covering it because as a barista and server its bs when ppl dont tip well
now -- idgaf if i go out to eat a lot or splurge when im out w friends. dropping $50-$100 randomly cause something is on clearance at lululemon is not a big deal. im not anal about my boyfriend and i splitting everything exactly 5050 down the middle cause meh whatever i dont need to be given money back for like the minimal difference. if whole foods is convenient for me to go to after a workout ill go in without batting an eyelash.
it is weird tho being poor and then having money -- like ill go to lululemon but absolutely CANNOT buy anything full price. i still like watching movies but 99% of the time go on discount days cause spending $20 when i could spend $9 feels wrong. whenever i do basic things with my boyfriend, like going to the grocery store or mall, i’m most definitely the most cost conscious -- checking against the value per oz, whereas he just picks whatever and gives no thoughts to it (i think he makes like 240k a year thereabouts, definitely more than double but i dont know the specifics). i drive a 2015 toyota corolla le he drives a nicer but still affordable more luxury sedan hyundai sonata souped up with seat warmers navigation and he’s installed a dash cam and stuff. my car is definitely a commuter car that’s just one level up from the s basic model. when i htink about buying a new car i dont know if i could buy a lexus but yet i sometimes think about getting a tesla instead of a prius
another weird one is getting mad at myself for leaving reusable grocery bags LITERALLY in the trunk and then having to pay the $0.10 per bag. I’ve easily spent at least $15 on bags prob. Before i would be kicking myself hard cause i’d need to pinch pennies. another thing that ive noticed makes me feel “rich” is i can sustain my craft coffee/boba habit just fine and not give a fuck. before i got more mindful of it i htink my my coffee boba budget was like $100 a month. ive always loved craft coffee, but it has to be RIGHT if i was gonna spend $6. when i was living w my parents in san diego going to a new coffee shop and driving up to encinitas or whatever was like THE trip. now i get philz off my mobile app whenever i head out of class or if im feeling like it and its not that special
but yeah, im not rich by any means but it was huge to go from like $16 an hour at my office job/$15.70?? w/ benefits I think that was my starbucks shift supervisor rate/annual salaries of 20k ish to $39k at a law firm in downtown sac (grossly underpaid but at least rent was only $300 at a family friends) back to the law firm job up to $70k. there i got a raise at the same job from 70 to 80k and then 80k to 86.
THEN cause i was privileged enough to have been able to save money making more when i hated my job i just up and quit (i think i had like no more than 5k in savings at the time --it wouldve been more but i spent 3k on prk/lasik). anyway yeah i was lucky af and got a new job in a month -- and the offer for this job was 100k base, 10k bonus, some amount of stock (i still suck at this stuff) and a stupid amount of perks like $1000 gym reimbursement and basically free health insurance -- if i annualize all my pay+perks, assuming i get my full bonus, its prob like 120k.
so i have like 5x ed my income in 4 years since graduating from college.
the crazy part is people that were more privileged than me STARTED at 100k as new grads, including 401ks and what not. im lucky becuase i started mine back when i was 18 at starbucks.
income inequality and access to knowledge/resources has become something ive become more aware about and passionate about over time. me and my boyfriend clashed a lot earlier i think because we literally were in different planes of our lives and income levels. we’ve been together 3 years, but have known each other for 4. we broke up for 1 year in between -- and yeah ngl had i never improved myself or actually reached my income/earning potential we likely would not have gotten back together. additionally him supporting me when we got back together raised me out of not the poverty level but yeah we met and i made 39k. i took the plunge and moved out to sf for myself and lets be real for him too and made 70k which was a huge jump. and in a short 15 months or so i jumped again to 100k base.
im never gonna make as much as he does (men/women blah we can get into that) but yeah even having access to money adjacently is so powerful. anthony never outright gave me money and im too much of a hardass independent person that ive NEVER borrowed money from him, never intend to. i really vehemently despise the idea of free loading but because of him just being around yeah my life has been improved.
when we met in 2015 in our young 20s we were in our have fun phase. i was too poor to have gone to thiings like coachella or out to a concert. he got me into music and made it easy for me to experience because he’d buy the ticket, drinks, pick me up and pay for sf parking. i would likely get dinner ahead of time or something small and generally we would switch so if he got tickets one time i’d get them next. but he ALWAYS paid for drinks and lets be real the occasional not drinks :P he had introduced me to music in such a way that i was willing to drop $800 or so on coachella + car camping + take pto days even when we were broken up 10ish months or whatever it was the first time we dated but if you think about it he likely dropped at least 1k on me during those 10 months without batting an eye lash. i made 39k at the time working in downtown sacramento and he made 90k base (maybe 115k total comp) living in SF.
despite just basic things like me being immature for 23 -- a big reason i think we broke up at the time was the income level inequality. it was both our first jobs out of school (first job out of stanford grad for him, he immediately got his masters out of undergrad). i did a round of uc davis, community, uc davis.
he told me he was breaking up with me because when we met i had originally wanted to be a lawyer and then didnt end up pursuing that path and he saw it as a lack of ambition/drive. what he didnt see was general growing up and not having access to lawyers as i grew up, just me working at this really top tier A+ law firm and feeling out of place as an asian woman working with rich WASPs. me wearing pencil skirts and having major impostor syndrome. what he did end up seeing was an insecure version of myself in our relationship with me bending over backwards to make him happy.
when i moved to sf and made 70k it definitely was a huge ego boost to make that additional 30k, but to be real, here in sf and paying more rent than i was in sac and SD/just general living being expensive 70k wasnt that much. what it did for my confidence though was priceless (i was an ea to a ceo at a tech startup). i really grew into myself and was more confident in my abilities -- and honestly a lot of that was just getting older and knowing that i was good at things, bad at certain things and i wasnt going through my quarterlife/post grad crisis anymore.
then those raises to 80k and 86k made me more ballsy. these things were obvi practiced with anthony as i had a partner to discuss and practice with/an educated thought partner. at this time anthony was making $150k base or so (after realizing he had been grossly underpaid as a PM for the 90k initial salary)
all of this set me up to basically make my position what it is now AND for it to be 100k. tbh im a glorified low level coordinator at a big company. i honest to goodness for the first three months probably worked a total of 2ish hours a day? this role should probably max out at 90k. and by max out i mean this role likely shouldve started at 75k with incremental raises to get to 90 in like 3 years. i STARTED at 100 and can likely if i play my cards right be promoted to a program manager in a year (or less). that’ll prob bump me to a base of 120 or so if i’m aggressive.
i always shitted on sf when i moved here because i hate the tech bros, the elitist ppl, the vcs who think theyre out here changing the world but seriously being surrounded by people that went to ivy leagues or the UC’s that were better than mine have honestly, like my boyfriend, just uplifted my status. something as small as casual lunch time conversation being more intellectual makes a huge difference for me re: how stimulated i feel and how much more energized ive become because of ppl around me. i def still have impostor syndrome all the time but its been so much growth from 23 to 27.
30s should be great because ill be well into my career by then and making even more and closing the gap even more w my boyfriend. its funny too cause hes 29 now AND FINALLY getting that postgrad quarter life crisis. his privilege was able to offset him to have this crisis later on in life where he made more money and could make smarter choices. privilege really is the thing that keeps on giving and im grateful to have started poor and really appreciate it. as i make more money i also care more and more to give back. if i ever do run for office in my 50s or whatever im gonna push for more access to education and arts. i had an interest in this as an undergrad but couldnt pursue it because itd be a lifetime of poverty, but yeah who knows.
dang this went long but it is really interesting when i think about money and how much its effected me. im lucky i was able to raise myself out of the level my immigrant parents brought me and my sister to. them moving out of the philippines was the best thing that ever happened to me. the second is them fronting the bill for my university education. the privilege i have is extremely special and important and i want to honor their sacrifices because im sitting on a 100k because of decades of hard work and frugality on their ends.
im fucking lucky.
we gotta pass on the resources and uplift those around us if we are fortunate.
...another rant altogether but i wish the leadership in the United States thought the same way.
(end: 4:36am, why do i do this to myself)

Post your last selfie along with 10 facts about yourself. Tag 10 other people to keep it going!
Thank you to the sweet @tomato-x-ramen for tagging me. You’re absolutely fabulous.
So, for some unknow reason, I’m gonna make this unnecessarily detailed.
1.) My favorite color is orange. So the first car I bought was/is orange. It’s one of the crappiest cars in existence, but I had to own because it was orange.
2.) I’m a homebody, but also really like social gatherings. The problem is I will literally sit my house for a month straight and be happy and then have to be forced out, but then once I’m out I never want to be home so I will schedule myself 1000 things to do outside of the house to not be home. Then the cycle repeats.
3.) Sometimes, when I go through stages of heavy anxiety, I do really stupid things and don’t understand why I do. For example, the other day I bought some string cheese cause it makes me happy. Then I forgot to put it in the fridge, so it was left out overnight. So the next day I was having panic attacks and wanted my string cheese, I decided to eat it after it was left out and immediately regretted my decision. See? Stupid.
4.) I read a lot. Like a lot. So much to the point often times I sleep deprive myself just so I can read more.
5.) Foxes are my favorite animals. That may explain why I adore Kurama to the fullest, because he’s a fox and even when he was “bad,” he did no wrong in my eyes.
6.) I am quite the savage. Like don’t get me wrong, I like to think I’m super nice at least 50% of the time. But trigger my temper, and I’m gonna go “Naruto-when-someone-shit-talks-Sasuke” on yah.
7.) EDM (Electronic Dance Music) is life. I love to dance. I love to rave. I love to feel the bass coursing through my veins.
8.) I love to chat and relate to others. Like tell me your life story so I can know you and I’ll be your friend forever .
9.) I say really weird stuff that’s supposed to come off funny. I fail at that. Often.
10.) Between getting my dog and starting this blog last year, my life just feels 10x better than it was. I love my dog & I love all the people I met because of this Fandom.

The largest asteroid ever recorded is a mammoth piece of space rock named Ceres.
The asteroid is almost 600 miles in diameter. It’s by far the largest in the asteroid belt and accounts for a whole third of the belt’s mass. The surface area is approximately equal to the land area of India or Argentina. It’s so big, there’s actually some debate over whether to refer to it as a dwarf planet instead of an asteroid, even if it has mostly asteroid-like qualities.
(Ayyy we all learned something new today.)

That’s so hard, because I love all pasta. But I guess my favorite has to be chicken Alfredo.

The eyes that I’m imagining are the deepest blue I have seen. It’s like staring into the ocean and seeing the waves rushing around. There’s a storm in those eyes. And just seeing the waters calm, is like the sun comes out and the blue becomes bright and looks like the sun glistening on the waters of Bora Bora.

Five years into the future, because I would like to know if I’m on the right path to a good future or if I have changes to make. The future scares me the most.Plus, I wouldn’t change my past because that’s what made me who I am today. And I like to think I’m a pretty great person. (:
That took fucking forever, I had to really think about this. It was fun though. So thanks. Haha.✌

Noah Cyrus: The Good Cry
Noah Cyrus Interview.
Nashville-based singer, songwriter and actress Noah Cyrus needs no introduction. Born on January 8th of the year 2000, she’s the daughter of Country Music Superstar Billy Ray Cyrus, and younger sister to mega pop star Miley Cyrus.
In 2017, she was named one of the most influential teens by TIME Magazine.
Noah has worked with many great Dance Music producers like One Bit, Alan Walker, Matoma, and Marshmello to name only a few. So we sat down with her to talk about her experience working in the EDM world, her fiery new EP “Good Cry,” and of course, her little Chihuahua “Ellie.”
Ron: What’s your dog’s name?
Noah Cyrus: Ellie! Her name is Ellie. She came with the name Ellie, and now I just say that it’s after Ellie Goulding. She’s a little Chihuahua and we always joke, I don’t know what you can say on here, but we always joke that she’s like the cocaine dog because she just seems to be on it all the time. If you could imagine a Chihuahua on just mounds of cocaine, that’s my dog!
The Good Cry.
Noah Cyrus released her debut EP “Good Cry” back in September of 2018. She describes the process as very emotional for her.

Ron: So, let me ask you this. When was the last time you had a good cry?
Noah Cyrus: I cried just a couple of days ago. I don’t know if it was a good one. But I cry sometimes when I’m in my hotel room alone. There was a point where I was just like, I miss my dog really bad and my mom texted me that she loved me and missed me and she gave me the like, ‘I miss you baby girl. I just want you to know I love you so much.’ And I just kind of broke down because when you’re out here it’s nice because, you know, Maddie is like family, and Zach and everybody on my team is like family, but I miss my dog and I miss my mom a lot, she’s like my best friend.

Rons: Pop Music is often called artificial, but listening to your album, it was so real and so emotional. What inspired you to open up to your fans so much?
Noah Cyrus: For example, like ‘Punches’ was a really hard day in the relationship that I was in for two years, and that was the first time that I’d ever broken down in front of a writer and producer. Joe Janiak, I’ll never forget, Joe and Jenna were just sitting there holding me because I was just sobbing, and Joe and I just really connected on this level and wrote down this song. It wasn’t just on purpose, I was in this relationship for two years and I’ve been writing about it since it began, and none of it changed. And it took two years for me to realize that you know, for us to mutually agree that it was time for us to move on, and now I have an album to write about that, and that’s great! But I went through two years that were really heavy and I just ended up writing these songs not knowing they were all gonna go together. I wrote “Good Cry” and that was kind of the final piece of the puzzle. Then I wrote ‘Topanga’ a week before the Ep came out and that was just an accident. It was a voice memo on my friend’s phone, and I ended up loving the voice memo so much. I was like, I want to put it on the EP.
EDM Records With Meaning.

Ron: So, you worked with One Bit, you worked with Marshmello and Alan Walker and you worked with all these great dance producers. What experiences or lessons did you take from them to work on your solo project?
youtube
Noah Cyrus: I think we just created good friendships overall, I went on a three-week tour with Alan in Europe and I just went out and sang “All Falls Down” every night and it was so much fun. It’s cool because I got to learn about the DJ side of things. But it’s always fun working with that side of music, the EDM genre. Because it’s so different, especially when you get to make a record with emotion in it; “Slow” is such an emotional record and that’s Matoma’s record and I love how emotional that song is and I relate to that song and it’s cool because I have a lot of songs that I haven’t put out yet that I want to pitch to a lot of EDM people. These are all personal records, and it’d be cool if we turned them into club records. That’s why I love the song “Headlights.” If you remember that song with the IIsey (Juber), she sings it. She’s the one who I wrote “Almost Famous,” and “Topanga” with and she just performed with me in New York, She’s amazing! But I love “Headlights” because it’s an EDM record with a meaning and that’s what I love about doing EDM records. You can deliver an EDM record with meaning.
Her Boss Ass Bitch Song.
Ron: So, when you sing “My Way,” what’s going on in your headspace?
youtube
Noah Cyrus: Like, why am I not getting what I want bitch! Like, I’m the princess! and that’s how I am in the music video. The whole music video is me as like a little princess and you know what? I really felt that song because I felt that with my music, I wasn’t getting my way for the longest time and now I’m getting my way. I am who I want to be. I was in a relationship with somebody that didn’t like who I was as a person, and you know what? That’s fine. We’re not meant to be together and I realized that “My Way” is my “boss ass bitch song.” I feel like Beyonce when I sing my way. I feel like [putting] my heels on even though I’m always wearing sneakers because I’m a “sneakerhead.” I just feel like a boss ass bitch when I sing “My Way.”
Ron: Cool kicks! those Nikes?
Noah Cyrus: Yes. Nike is my favorite shoe brand on the planet!
Ron: Awesome! Awesome.
Noah Cyrus: Sorry Adidas. I like you too though! and everybody else… they can be friends.
Ron: Speaking about meaning, your fans love you so much.
Noah Cyrus: and I love them so much.
Her Team and Her Fans
Ron: What do you love most about your fans?
Noah Cyrus meets her fans in Chicago.
Noah Cyrus: We started out as friends like when I was a kid I would go on Twitter and we would become like Twitter friends and we would DM (Direct Message) each other. I feel like I have a special relationship with them because they’ve literally watched me grow up. Like if their parents were my dad’s fans and they were growing up looking at…. I don’t know, it’s just a really cool relationship that I have with my fans. We’ve always just been family.
Ron: I saw the line of fans out there for meet and greets. What’s the coolest gift you’ve been given by a fan?
Noah Cyrus: My favorite is just when they bring me a good old bag of Chili-Cheese Fritos. I swear!
Ron: I Love that! Okay, you made such a good team with singer MAX. How did the two of you meet?
youtube
Noah Cyrus: We met at radio shows a couple of years ago. We just met at a radio show. I’ve always loved his music. I’ve always loved Max. I’ve always loved his sense of fashion and he’s such a cool kid, or not a kid but you know, he’s such a cool cat and I love him. And I ended up just hitting him up and was like “Yo, get on ‘Team’ your voice is too beautiful to not be on this song!” I wrote it for my boyfriend at the time because we were going through some stuff, and I still wanted to work it out, as us women do, but you know, whatever.
Ron: Have you seen the movie “A Star is Born” yet?
Noah Cyrus: Not yet. I haven’t had time to go to the movies yet, but for all my fans listening. You guys know I love Gaga, so I want to go see it immediately.
The Puffer Fish Cup.
Ron: A few more things. That selfie you took with the Beatles. That’s sickening.
Noah Cyrus: Was that not the best!? So, there’s a story behind this! Maddie wakes up around noon. Maddie and I share rooms at hotels, we’re best friends. I wake up around 2:30 PM, it’s about 2:30 and Maddie’s tapping me on the shoulder saying, “Noah, I want to go to this restaurant, look at these fish cups.” And I’m like “What the fk is a fish cup!?” And I look and they’re selling, they are not selling, they give you your drink in these glasses that are shaped like a puffer fish. So, Maddie and I were checked out of our hotel room, it’s checkout time and we have nowhere to go. So, we’re like, fine- let’s walk to this f*ng place and they’re not even open. Only their pizzeria is open, so Maddie convinces the hotel-casino place to sell her this fish cup, this puffer fish cup. And on our way to the puffer fish cup place was that wall of the Beatles. And then my friend who was on Facetime with me and we just thought it was funny when you see it and you zoom in, you see my friend on facetime, but yeah.
Ron: If you could cover any Beatles songs, which one would it be?
Noah Cyrus: Well, “Hey Jude” was the first song I learned on piano, so I would probably go to cover “Hey Jude,” even though that’s like a typical cover, but … my teacher back in school, when I was in second grade, he started teaching me piano and “Hey Jude” was the first song that I learned.
Chicken Nuggets, a Frosty and Fries with Ranch.
Ron: Now it’s time to play “TAKE 5”.
Noah Cyrus
Noah Cyrus: I’m down.
Ron: These are five questions to really get to know you better. We know you don’t drink coffee. So what drink do you start your morning with?
Noah Cyrus: What drink do I start my morning with? Water. I just drink and tea.
Ron: What’s your favorite thing to order at Wendy’s?
Noah Cyrus: Chicken nuggets, a Chocolate Frosty and French Fries…. with Ranch.
Ron: Of course Ranch.
Noah Cyrus: Yes.
Ron: What will the Noah Cyrus perfume smell like?
Noah Cyrus: Oooo, Chicken nuggets! …that’d be so gross! No, to be honest, I have never really been a perfume person, but my friend did get me the Ariana Grande perfume when it was my 16th birthday so that’s my favorite smell. Oooh! just kidding, I’m selling candles as my merch with my face on it, like Jesus Saint candles; Christmas cookie scented candles! We couldn’t get them scented on time for the tour. So, my perfume is going to be Christmas cookie scented candle from cracker barrel.
