Child x adult ships? Dooon't appeal to me At All (usually I block tags cause they can make me really upset). Used to like one of them (billdip) but that was mostly me projecting my attraction toward Bill Cipher onto the character in the show who was the most like me... because I happened to be 10 at the time (younger than Dipper is in the show lmao). I also used that ship and the fucked up dynamics to process. Things 👍

Incest ships? Honestly I've only ever liked one of those (y'all know the one, I don't even have to say) and I've explained in detail why already. I'd say they don't bother me as much because there's not a(n inherent) consent issue but rather a "hey, this is probably not the safest foundation for a relationship," which is also true of like... massive age gaps between adults. There's also the "if you have a kid there's a higher chance they'll end up disabled (+ it's unfair to do something you Know could cause a person that much more difficult of a life) so Don't Do That" but that's. Not an issue. With the things I ship. Considering I find myself drawn more to queer ships + I often headcanon characters as intersex & unable to have kids anyway.

Human x non-human? This one's tricky because as with the first one I hate most of these (ships with consent issues Bother Me) BUT if it's like. A nonhuman that thinks/processes like a human and can consent in some way (ex: human turned animal, shapeshifter, werewolf, basically any nonhuman thing that thinks like a person but isn't shaped like one) then I can work with that. These ships appeal to me for. Therian reasons. Not a fan of them in a sexual context but like. A shapeshifter in the form of an animal that can talk and think and, y'know, everything else, being in a sort of qpr situation with a human who does things for them that they can't, and they do things that the human can't, is cool as a concept to me I cannot lie.

Tress of the Emerald Sea by Brandon Sanderson

This book reminded me a lot of Ella Enchanted for some reason. It had a very similar vibe with the love story and the adventure. Wit/Hoid was the narrator which was delightful. I always love a good immortal silly guy who's actually wise and powerful that shows up all the time. Also this book has pirates, so big selling point for me. And I thought the whole spore thing going on with Tress's planet was really cool. 12 moons is a bit excessive though lol. I really liked this book a lot, it was fun. Definitely a book I'll be rereading at some point I think.

Circe by Madeline Miller

I will always love a good greek mythology retelling. I was (and will always be) a Percy Jackson kid at heart. I will admit, though, I didn't know a ton about Circe going into this, as I often confused her and Calypso. But as per any mythology based book I read, there were a lot of ventures to wikipedia to learn a bit more about who's who and what else they were involved in. Oddly enough, though, I hated The Odyssey when i had to read it in high school. If there's 1000 Odysseus haters, I'm one of them, etc., etc. or whatever. But Penelope (my beloved) was done right in this book. I also liked that Circe is a morally grey protagonist in the story. She does a lot of stuff that is not really very good, but I support women's wrongs so I thought she was super interesting. And altogether i just really liked this book. There's something about the way Madeline Miller writes that hits just right for me.

I love the Wayward Children series so much. I was a lot like Lundy as a kid. Very about rules and books and pretty alone. I really found the goblin market super intriguing and I think it's one of the worlds from the series I would do best in. It's all about fair deals so it can be harsh at times but it was always fair. I knew the end of the book was coming since Lundy was a character in previous books but it did still hit hard.

More Wayward Children! The main character of this book was intersex, which I didn't actually know going into it, but it was neat cause I don't think I've ever read a book with an intersex character before. I really liked the setting of this book. The Hooflands seem to be one of the least harrowing worlds in the series. I loved the centaurs that took care of Regan. They were fun.

This one was really good. I've had this book for a while now and I just haven't got around to reading it until now and I'm so glad I finally picked it up. I really liked both the main character and the love interest, which is kinda rare for me. The whole concept of a girl that's quite literally followed by death was really cool and very well done. I'm excited to read the rest of the series, which I believe is recently completed.

I'm trying so hard not to finish all the Sanderson books (but mostly the stormlight archive) before Wind and Truth comes out in December. So I'm reading standalones and definitely not Rythm of War. Tell me why this book took me so long to finish though. I've read stormlight archive books in less time than this took me. It wasn't even that I disliked this book in any way I just don't think it grabbed me as much and I struggled to make myself sit down and read it. This book was super heavy on the politics and religious aspects of the plot and I think that may have been what caused it to drag for me since I tend to be a bit more interested in the magic aspect of fantasy books. But luckily that did pick up a bit more toward the end. But anyway! I loved Sarene in particular. I thought she was so cool. She was manipulating the hell out of people the whole book and I loved it. The end did make me interested see what Sanderson will do in the sequel.

AU IDEA (Kind of ended up coming from me playing the Swooning over Stans game)

SORRY THERES SO MUCH TEXT!!

After Bill is sent to therapy and doesn't recover properly, Axolotyl decides the best way to cure him? Split him in twos, turn both halves human, then erase their memories and send them off to Earth. Crazy style bc they start out as kids, time travel style, so the chaos that Bill created never TECHNICALLY should have existed but still does! Clarification? No! They do age faster than most kids.

The two of them are, lovingly, named Bill and Cipher. Both are pretty much each negative side of OG!Bill, with Cipher being the "positive negatives" (EX: Self-centered behaviors, god complex, etc.) and Bill being the "Negative negatives" (EX: Easy to anger, manipulative, violent, etc.)

The two are twins, and were 'born' with only one eye each. Bill has a birthmark across his face akin to the Theraprism Bill's scar, and Cipher has a strange birthmark along his face like brick. Each of them have a matching birthmark over where they're missing an eye of a Triangle.

Both eventually meet the Pines (this is where the whole Swooning over Stans game came into play lol), Cipher first after their car is mess up by Ford, and then the entirety of the positive/full-meter route for Ford happens from the game, with only one moment different from the game where the whole family kind of thinks that he's literally just Bill disguised as a human.

Bill meets them later after Cipher reconnects with him (they had a fallout at some point) and Cipher invites him on their next trip up to Gravity Falls, where Bill ends up getting along shockingly well with Stanley.

(CONTENT WARNING: Mentions of sex work, child abuse (and a vague reference to domestic abuse), self-harm, and suicidal ideation. Also, discrimination against disabled, queer, and even just slightly different people + racism.

BILL:

Goes by any pronouns, mainly she/they/he, he was assigned female when born but turned out to likely be intersex in some amount, as he had a high amount of Testosterone and only had very minor chest growth.

She'd consider himself bisexual or pansexual but never actually labels herself.

He works as a stripper/sex worker for the first half of his adult life, and only quits after getting tired of the whole deal. He only started because he enjoyed the attention/power but later stopped when he felt he had enough money, and started traveling. He mainly got tired of it due to how often he had to deal with abuse from the people running the places he worked for, including but not limited to constantly being called racial and homophobic slurs only for his advisor to laugh at him about it, and the usual harassment over his eye and birthmarks.

Between the two twins, he's gone through the most in childhood and was bullied a lot for having much more visible differences than his brother.

She ended up killing one of her and her brother's abusive caretakers in the past, taking a piece of broken bottle that was thrown at them and slitting his throat when he tried to attack them. This also ends up paralleling a future incident where she's assaulted by a stranger after "scaring him" with her looks, and only survived through pure 'luck'.

CIPHER:

He/Him only, but wouldn't be bother by They/Them. Was "born" with a deformed arm and only three fingers on one hand.

Doesn't really enjoy romance or sex, and only indulged in them occasionally (usually with drug dealers). He only ends up understanding even an ounce of what people meant by saying they romantically loved someone whenever he met Stanley, as the closest thing to love he ever had was his brother and a nice old lady he used be neighbors with.

He is incredibly self-destructive and the habit never leaves him, even after him and his brother move in with the Pines. He learns to keep it away from the kids out of fear of scaring them, as well as trying better with anger management. There still have been incidents of him purposefully attempting to burn himself on the stove when cooking or scratching out himself, even when around the kids, but he keeps the worst of it to himself and the other adults.

He wholeheartedly believes that he'd give up on life if he lost his brother or Stanley, and even if he didn't end up ending it, he'd likely fall into a deeper hole than he already had dug. He only somewhat believes that he might be able to stop himself just because of the kids, but since they aren't really permanently there, he doesn't trust that'd be true.

He never worked a genuine job until the Mystery Shack, and often stole or begged for money instead. The few jobs he did have were incredibly illegal, including joining multiple gangs throughout his life. He has a plethora of scars due to this, and some severe trauma from the things he saw and did.

He was very commonly abused in the houses him and his brother lived in due to his arm and hands conditions. He eventually got to a point in life where he didn't necessarily care about what people thought of him (aka he didn't want to change himself for them anymore), but did become incredibly defensive and would get aggressive when other kids pointed out his arm or hand. He never really simmered down about it, and still gets anger flare-ups if people so much as look at his arm too long. The only people he tries to not hold to that anger are kids, since he understands they don't know that much better.

On a scale of one to ten, 1 being "This has gotten annoying and offputting," 10 being "This is awesome and I love how engaged you guys are," and 5 being "You do you but I'm getting bored with the topic," how are you feeling about the Gender and Pronouns discussion? Seems like people (including me) exploded your page for a bit there.

I wouldn't have already prior to this conversation put this much thought into how sentient polygons can be trans—much less taken an alien with he/him pronouns, stuffed him in a body with a vag, and declared he's got three overlapping alien genders that have absolutely nothing to do with either these pronouns or this body and that are weird even by his species's standards—if I didn't think the topic of speculative gender is fascinating. I'm the person who wrote this post. This is a topic of great interest to me.

It's only a 7 because of the preoccupation with pronouns, specifically, in a way that makes it clear that people are looking at this very alien character that I've been taking pains to keep alien and assuming that his understanding of gender and How Gender Should Be Recognized is identical to early 21st century English-speaking humans' understanding of gender. I've had three different people writing in on the assumption that it's a given that this alien who's never said anything about his pronouns except "whatever" would jump for joy to be assigned some English neopronouns.

I'm his writer. I am using his primary English pronouns, every time I talk about him. I'm using his pronouns right now. Divorce "he/him" from inherent implications of masculinity.
