The pet eating disinformation being spread by Trump, Vance, and other loony Republicans had its roots with folks which Weird Donald once described as "very fine people".

The issue in Springfield, about 45 miles from Columbus in southwest Ohio, involves thousands of Haitian immigrants who have settled in the city in recent years, many of them there legally under federal programs after having fled violence and political turmoil. Residents and political leaders, including Vance, have for months raised economic and public safety concerns, asserting that an influx of as many as 20,000 immigrants to a city that in 2020 counted a population of 59,000 has strained resources. Claims about pets being abducted, slaughtered and eaten are more recent. Blood Tribe, a national neo-Nazi group, was among the early purveyors of the rumor in August, posting about it on Gab and Telegram, social networks popular with extremists. While the group’s leader has taken credit for Trump’s indulgence of the claims, Blood Tribe’s reach is unknown; its accounts on those sites have fewer than 1,000 followers. Some Blood Tribe members also planned a couple of events in the real world, like a small Aug. 10 march in Springfield protesting Haitian immigration and an appearance at a city commission meeting later that month. The rumor soon crossed over to mainstream social media, like Facebook and X. NewsGuard, a firm that monitors misinformation, traced the origins to an undated post from a private Facebook group that was shared in a screenshot posted to X on Sept. 5.  “Remember when my hometown of Springfield Ohio was all over National news for the Haitians?” the user wrote. “I said all the ducks were disappearing from our parks? Well, now it’s your pets.”

A "savvy genius" is not somebody easily taken in by racist internet spam. The United States is not well served by a POTUS whose decisions are easily influenced by obvious bullshit.

Around that time, other social media posts about the rumor sprouted and went viral, some of them based in part on residents’ comments at public hearings. On Sept. 6, there were 1,100 posts on X mentioning Haitians, migrants or immigrants eating pets, cats, dogs and geese, according to PeakMetrics, a research company. The next day there were 9,100 — a 720% increase. The number of posts spiked again Monday, to 47,000, when Vance advanced the rumor on X.

If I see one more take about how you need to keep fandom clean because "we need to protect the asexuals" I'll riot. Here's the thing, some ace people are uncomfortable with nsfw. So are some alosexual people. That's why it's important to tag things accordingly so other people can manage their experience. That has nothing to do with being ace though.

I think people conflate asexual with sex repulsed and then further conflate lack of sex with being a child. I'm 26, even if sex made me uncomfortable I can voice it myself as a grown woman. You don't need to "protect me".

The protection narrative is very puritanical christian culture. I can keep myself safe, thank you very much, you don't need to wage holy war on boobs in my name. In fact, I am fighting the crusade on the side of the boobs.

A lot of ace people are very pro sex so long as it doesn't involve us. Some actually do have sex, lack of attraction doesn't mean lack of libido.

When you see ace people, survivors of sa, neurodivergent people or even minors as "poor sweet things that need to be protected" instead of actual people, that's when you drink the purity culture Kool aid. If you're old enough to be on social media you're old enough to use the tools at your disposal to filter the content you see. We don't need anyone harassing others in our name.

We should teach people how to use these tools instead of forcing everyone to act PG 13 (which is what the advertisers want you to do btw). Also, consider how it makes us feel when you speak over us saying that ace/ND/sa survivors are uncomfortable with sex when a lot os us aren't. Hell, purity culture has been proven to be very damaging for the minors it was meant to protect (lack of sex Ed, repression and feelings of guilt make you easier to groom too). Kiddifying the internet is harmful even for the minors.

So please, next time you read about how we need to make fandom "safer for ace people" I want you to remember that statistically speaking a lot of the nsfw artists you're harassing are ace. Tag things, block words, keep yourself safe and let others live.

But, most of all: stop making generalizations about communities (even if you're in them) to justify your censorship.

I love how DA is now rubbing it in our faces that the top ExCluSivEs artist is LITERALLY SH_TTING OUT AI SLOP TO SELL TO THEIR PEANUT GALLERY. Might as well call the website "DeviantAI" or "AI Art" at this point.

Christ on a bicycle... It's kind of bizarre given that AI Art is a legal minefield right now. I am not vehemently opposed to the technology, but even I have to draw a line in the sand and say this is going too far.

Side note: I am not concerned about the "AI lawsuit" because it either fizzled out or will be settled behind closed doors. If those people are still pursuing it, they now have to contend with Google (is "working" on an image generator), Microsoft (has Bing Create), and all the other major tech companies adopting AI tech. And all I can say to that is good F___ing luck trying to take on Google. Worst case scenario (I'd imagine) for DA is that the lawsuit goes through and Wix panic sells them to someone else. Kind of hoping it would be Elon Musk because that would be utterly hysterical (insert maniacal laugh here)...

Despite some of the dumb and braindead decisions Tumblr has made in the past, I will give them credit for not going in all guns blazing on AI like DA did. I'm actually starting to be happy that I resurrected my Tumblr blogs now.

Rant on “Queerbaiting”

The so called “internet activists” have created chaos again by forcing an 18 years old boy to come out as a bisexual to the internet. The amount of weirdos who forget that bisexual men like women too is honestly fucking infuriating. I remember seeing the photos of Kit with that girl and I didn’t think much of it because the paparazzi has a tendency of misconstruing what actors are doing in their lives. I did not jump to conclusions but I’m not psychotic enough to think that it would be a problem for a teenage boy to have a girlfriend. Everyone and their mom was talking about him queerbaiting for being in Heartstopper. Well, now, turns out all of you were wrong because he’s bisexual. He had to come out under the worst circumstances publicly. He literally had to come out because y’all bullied the fuck out of him. 

When are we as a society going to question why we are policing the hell out of celebrities on the internet? Who the fuck are you to say what someone is or isn’t? You need to start leaving famous people alone and stop forcing them to come out to end fandom’s incessant harassment. How can some of you consider yourself so-called “fans” who watched the show and completely missed the point of what the show was trying to say about sexuality. Nick in Heartstopper takes his time to come out to his parents and to his friends but you couldn’t even afford that grace to his actor in real life. Downplaying the role misogyny played in the historical oppression of queer women and concluding that queer men must have been more oppressed than queer women

Bi women are, at best, not as queer as "real" queer ppl, and at worst, simply equivalent to straight women

Like idk but I feel like the takeaway from Hbomberguy and Toddintheshadow's videos should maybe be "be aware of such patterns in your communities bc they definitely exist" and not "this guy is uniquely awful" and I feel like a lot of the discussion I've seen surrounding this has been severely failing at that. Most ppl who've spent any significant amount of time on tumblr prob either have internalised at least one of those thought patterns, have had to de-internalise them, or have had to be extremely vigilant to not internalise them (which is done by, you know, seeking out other sources, which also seemed like an important takeaway from the videos)

I really miss the old xkcd forum. At some point I think the forum was hacked via some phpBB exploit, and for a while there was a note up that the admin was reviewing the forums to "make sure they were secure," but the forum was never put back up. A bustling, thriving community was wiped out of existence with zero warning. I was only a member briefly, might have had a single digit number of posts, but there was so much interesting stuff there.
