Hoy #25noviembre se conmemora el Día Internacional de la eliminación de la violencia contra la Mujer. No vengo a dar sermones sino aprovechar la ocasión para advertir que "violencia" es un concepto amplio cuyas manifestaciones más graves o evidentes suelen robarse toda la atención (feminicidio, abuso sexual, brutalidad física, etc) y con buenos motivos, sin embargo invisibilizan otros tipos de violencia que pasan desapercibidos justamente porque no matan o no dejan cicatrices apreciables a simple vista. Me refiero al body-shaming, la discriminación laboral, disparidad de salarios, el culpar a la víctima, la condena por pensar distinto en asuntos ideológicos, el trato displicente a ancianas, el mansplaining, el racismo, el clasismo, el acoso (incluyendo el que se produce desde escuelas hasta oficinas, hostilizando a alguna compañera), la censura, la sanción social a quienes no desean casarse ni tener hijos, los prejuicios contra mujeres agraciadas o que acceden por mérito a posiciones reservadas para hombres, la invalidación de las emociones como si fueran debilidad o defecto, el desprecio por la salud mental, la falta de apoyo para quienes están en etapa de crianza, etc, etc. Todos estos casos pueden parecer más o menos triviales para algun@s, secundarios en relación a lo que entendemos por violencia o por lo que rasgamos vestiduras, pero su gravedad está en que abonan terreno para una escalada de agresividad y que no hacen distinción de género: mucho de lo que describo se produce también de mujeres hacia mujeres. En fin, que la crónica roja no nos haga olvidar aquellos escenarios donde se cocina el mal sin que nadie se dé cuenta. Ahí debemos poner la lupa con el mismo celo.🔍 #25nov

#Herstory #UnDíaComoHoy (#ADayLikeToday) #MinervaMirabal (Salcedo, 12/03/1926-25/11/1960), a Dominican woman who, along with her sisters Patria and María Teresa, opposed the dictatorship of #RafaelTrujillo, for which all three were assassinated on 25/11/1960. The sisters lived a normal childhood, like that of any girl of their time and their social and cultural context. Due to the good economic and social position of their parents, they were able to access a formal education and learn at the best school of that time, the Inmaculada Concepción boarding school. She had an outstanding performance together with her husband in the clandestine meetings that gave rise to the June 14th Revolutionary Movement. With the name of "Mariposa" (Butterfly), Minerva fully committed to clandestine work. Minerva and her parents attended a party in Santiago in honor of the dictator Trujillo in 1949, which would mark the beginning of the tragic course for the whole family. Trujillo met Minerva and was attracted to her. A few days later, Trujillo invited the family back to attend the opening party of the Hotel Montaña. On that occasion, the dictator and his son danced with Minerva. Trujillo took the opportunity to be gallantly demonstrate his attraction to her, behavior that did not please the young woman and for that reason she stopped dancing. At the third invitation, Trujillo renewed with greater vigor his attempt to attract the young woman. He danced with her several times, conversed at length and was again rejected. This fact made Trujillo furious, humiliated by the Mirabal family, until it culminated in her murder. On 25/11/1960, when Minerva, Patria and María Teresa were coming back from visiting their husbands, three leaders of the June 14 Revolutionary Movement imprisoned, they were ambushed by agents of the Military Intelligence Service and taken to a country house where they were beaten with sticks and other blunt objects until they died. Their driver, Rufino de la Cruz, was also killed. En esa ocasión el dictador y su hijo bailaron con Minerva. Trujillo aprovechó para demostrar con galanterías su atracción hacia ella, conducta que no agradó a la joven y por tal motivo dejó de bailar. En la tercera invitación, Trujillo reinició con mayor brío su intento de atraer a la joven. Bailó en varias oportunidades con ella, conversó largamente y de nuevo fue rechazado. Este hecho puso a Trujillo furioso, humillado por la familia Mirabal, hasta que culminó con el asesinato de ella. El 25/11/1960, cuando Minerva, Patria y María Teresa regresaban de visitar a sus maridos, presos los tres dirigentes del Movimiento Revolucionario 14 de junio, estas fueron objeto de una emboscada por agentes del Servicio de Inteligencia Militar siendo conducidas a una casa campestre donde fueron golpeadas con palos y otros objetos contundentes hasta causarles la muerte.​ Su chofer Rufino de la Cruz fue también asesinado. Violence against women and domestic violence are topic that are part of all my talks. I am often asked what can be done, where to turn for help.

The help hotline "Violence against women - advice and help for women in distress" is one of the most important first points of contact. It is a nationwide counseling service for women in Germany who have experienced or are still experiencing violence. 

Victims of violence of all nationalities can call 08000 116 016 and receive support around the clock, 365 days a year.The hotline offers victims the opportunity to receive anonymous, competent, secure and barrier-free advice. Qualified counselors confidentially assist those seeking help and, if necessary, refer them to local support services, such as a women's counseling center or a women's shelter in the vicinity. Accessibility and multilingualism ensure access for women with disabilities and limited knowledge of German.Especially sections of the population which have until now only seldom made use of the existing support resources, e.g. immigrants, women with disabilities, older women or victims of human trafficking, are highly encouraged to call in case they face violence.

The support hotline is aimed at reaching a number of target groups: first and foremost the team wishes to reach women who are or have been victims of violence. However, they also offer our counselling services to anyone, relatives or friends of victims, affected through their social environment. Furthermore, the support hotline is also available to people who are confronted with violence against women within the scope of their work or volunteer activities. The advisory service is available to anyone seeking help, irrespective of social and ethnic origin, religion as well as sexual orientation and identity.
