Henry and I have been together since the beginning of this year. As many of you have already read, we’ve struggled everyday with what this means for our families, our countries and our futures. And while neither of us is naive about what it means to be public figures, we never imagined our most private and intimate thoughts, fears and truths would become fodder for public examination.

What was taken from us this week was our right to determine for ourselves how and when we should share our relationship and queer identities with the world.

The truth is every queer person has the right to come out on their own terms, and on their own timeline. They also have the right to choose not to come out at all. The forced conformity of the closet can not be answered with the forced conformity in coming out of it.

This isn’t about shame. This is about privacy and the fundamental right of self-determination which are exactly the principles on which the struggle for queer liberation has always been fought.

But there is another truth that is much simpler: I fell in love with a person who happens to be a man and that man happens to be a prince. He has captured my heart and made my life immeasurably better.

I love his Royal Highness, Prince Henry George Edward James Hanover-Stuart Fox. I hope one day we’ll have the opportunity to be public about our relationship on our own terms.”

👭 Por ayer... ☝ 🌈 DIA DE SALIR DE CLÓSET 🌈 La orientación sexual nunca fue taboo para mi o para mi familia, y por 19 años me consideré heterosexual y me sentía a gusto. A los 17 años comencé a interesarme mas en los temas LGBTQ y una que otra chica me llamó la atención pero nunca quise explorar y me quedé con sólo el hecho que me gustaban los hombres (y mucho 😆) porque toda mi vida supe lo difícil que era "salir del clóset" (o ser queer) ante la sociedad entonces tenía temor de aceptar si era bisexual o no. Fue hasta los 18 años (universidad) que me comencé a confundir acerca de las chicas y me etiqueté como heteroflexible :b. Después de tantas veces que chicos patanes me rompieron el corazón, ser célibe por 3 años y demás, por fin encontré a alguien que me amaba tal y como era (con todas mis locuras y trastornos mentales), pero ese alguien era una chica, y además mi mejor amiga. Así el 1 de Octubre del 2016 comenzaron los 8 meses mas largos de la vida (y llenos de profunda reflexión) me sentí atrapada en una jaula sin saber si valía la pena luchar esta batalla contra la estigmatización de ser bisexual pero ELLA valía la pena (y mucho 💛), y así fue como hace 4 meses decidí hacerlo público en Facebook (que era la herramienta más adecuada porque ahí todo mundo se entera xd). Hasta el día de hoy todavía hay días donde me siento extraña de decir que soy bisexual por la cantidad incontable de mitos que existe sobre las personas bisexuales. Pero cada día abrazo más esa parte de mí e intento rodearme de gente que sé que acepta esa parte de mí también. Mi ventaja es que toda mi vida he sido una persona que nunca le ha importado lo que los demás piensen de mí, y siempre he hecho lo que sea con mi vida y mis decisiones. Part 3 of 3: I spent 2 months post breakup watching videos made by #lgbtyoutubers . Catch is my parents STILL didn't know why we REALLY broke up. I had decided I wasn't worried about my family not accepting me, but this whole journey was about me accepting ME & YT played a HUGE part in that. I jumped on the Shannon and @cammiescott train post break up, but watched all the videos on @nowthisisliving on youtube, came across Sarah & Rachel on youtube(@itssarbearr & @itsrachbenzo)highly recommend, Lucy and Kaelyn(@lucylizz & @kaeepet ) post break up, and also BerkleyLovesTori( @berkleycade & @torimonaco). These four couples (post break up and currently still madly in love) taught me that you CAN be NOT straight and still live your life VERY HAPPY. that I may have more in common with people I normally wouldnt have associated with growing up and that LOVE IS LOVE regardless of gender. So after hours and hours of watching YT, and being tired of my parents thinking we just broke up because of fighting I decided I wanted to tell them... 4/30/18 I was GOING To tell them, so I wrote a short letter saying I was BI and wanted something different, and thats why we broke up. gave it to my father, said read it when i leave the room, and then give it to mom. went to sleep heart pounding. The following afternoon I recieved a text from my mom saying, we kind of assumed, and we love you not matter what. For whatever reason my father didn't say anything until later in the story. I sent a picture of the letter to most of my sisters who were all supportive, and then... 3 months later 7/30/18 I decided I was going to come out on my facebook, not for anyone else but myself. I had heard the quote pictured above in the "A Letter To You" by @nowthisisliving, and decided it was something worthy of my story to be a part of me FOREVER, so I had it tattooed on my arm, and posted my story on facebook. My father THEN commented on the post( even though we arent fb friends) in way that was very fitting for him, intelligent and confusing! but supportive. Liz, @neildegrassetyson and I are surrounded by an unknown enemy territory at the @museumofnaturalhistory. We didn’t make it out alive. Liz looks over to me and says “Dad I think I might like girls.” I say “ Great! So do I ! “ She kinda laughs and then says “No, I think I’m a lesbian.” I stood there silent for a moment and finally said “Ok....cool.” She looked surprised. She told@me that she was expecting this long back and forth because she had gotten the response from everyone else in the family. I said “There isn’t anything in the universe that’s gonna make me love you any less so whatever you do with your body with someone else (as long as there is consent, and you’re an appropriate age) then by all means kill the game my G! She said thanks and the battle waged on.We defeated the other worldly beings with some calculation the Neil came up with and we were victorious !When it was all said and done It was a pleasure to sure with my two heroes NDT and Liz. P.S. this is the actual date Liz came out and we celebrated by seeing a performance on dark matter! I was too shy to talk to Neil so I sent liz over to talk to him for me. He saw through my smoke screen and called me out in front of everyone. He was doing a lil q and a about the universe and Liz was the only one come up with a question to stump him.
