𝐸𝓂𝒷𝑜𝒹𝓎𝒾𝓃𝑔 𝒮𝑜𝓁𝒶𝓇 𝐸𝓃𝑒𝓇𝑔𝓎 𝒾𝓃 𝒩𝑜𝒹𝒶𝓁 𝓉𝒾𝓂𝑒𝓈 🌼🌞✨🍯
In the world of Vedic astrologers, there is a lot of remark about how in the age of the internet, rapid technological advancements, idols, overstimulation, 'fake news', and trend cycles as fast as lightning, we are living in times very influenced by nodal energy. Or at least, nodal (particularly Rahuvian) aspects of reality are increasingly 'in your face', accessible... If we take the concept of trends to be a very nodal phenomena for instance: throughout most of history, trends were not something you could observe so blatantly the way we do now.
A 'trend' was more likely to last an entire generation, and without the constant access to the past, present and future of the entire world that the internet now provides, you wouldn't even realise it's a trend. One would simply consider it 'normal'. People were not as aware of what the 'elites' are up to, what happens in other countries, mass information leakage etc. you are busy carrying your own burdens, and reaping your own joys, in your own bubble.
In older times, it's as simple as- the life you're born into is the life you focus on & work on UNLESS you are in a position of power (Solar energy) & therefore dealing more with the people at large & distant lands. Even still, your main focus is on your own kingdom/village/tribe. The average person is not going to really know what's going on in faraway places the way we now do. Sure, this nodal, constant consumption element of reality still existed, but it was less 'in your face'.
These days we have our 'black mirrors' (phones, laptops, etc) and they exist as a portal into- anywhere we desire. Lives & realities that don't even necessarily relate to our own. The need to be consciously aware of this is crucial in order to find the balance necessary.
Currently, everything is moving so fast, and there are constant forms of stimulation, movement, illusions and streams of consciousness to get lost in. So many rabbit holes to fall down without you even realising it that will drain & alienate you from your Solar energy.
Getting lost in trends and the lives of other people that in the physical realm, do not directly touch your own life, can be extremely draining to us. In an abstract way, this gives us insight into why it is that so many people feel depressed- lost, like the world is grey... there is constant fog, smoke & mirrors attempting to block our internal Sun, our personal unique destiny & divinity.
Ironically, I tend to think that the reason we're collectively so divided & lonely lately (there's many reasons, but in the way of esoteric takes), is the lack of Solar energy. People talk about how this society is missing the honouring of feminine (Lunar) energy, which is true- but only because of the lack of healthy Solar energy to support it.
I mean, a material manifestation of this is the.. beyond concerning (and somehow, rarely talked about?) statistics on the sperm count dropping. According to various scientific studies, we're looking at roughly a 50% decrease over 50 years... that's just- wow.
Another of many material manifestations of the way true Solar energy is becoming rarer/obscured: lately, the average suburban city is removing structures (Solar) & facilities people usually go to socialise and have fun- bars, clubs, cinemas, skate parks, venues hosting of events & festivals. Yes, the actual social aspect is more of a Lunar energy, but the Solar aspects (ie. the structures, the organised events, the provided food, etc) are the container for that Lunar energy to fall upon. For socialisation, intimacy, raw emotion & connection to exist healthily, we need some kind of structure, some Solar goodness to go off of so we're not just- floating entities in space talking to other floating entities in space about nothing in particular.
Yes, Solar energy speaks of individuality, paving your own path, ego, sense of self- but here's the thing. If we lack sense of self, how can we connect with people? How can we feel unity if there's no 'self' in the first place? How can we connect and share with people if we feel we have nothing to offer and we're all regurgitating the same stuff- there's no reason to talk or connect if everybody seems to be just.. lacking substance, robotic, or a void
Solar energy is our ego, our happiness, our light. It represents that substance. Someone speaking from a place of Solar light is tapping into a place of authenticity & experience, whereas when we are lost in nodal energies; we are moreso becoming a conduit for other people's ideas and thoughts we've heard about, forgetting our own footing in reality.
I feel like- no, I've seen- time and time again how this current society can delude us into believing that the way to leave your mark on the world & make the world a better place, is to get lost in others. To always be in the know, informed and on trend when it comes to everything outside of yourself. It feels like we are being taught that if we aren't carrying the weight of the whooole world on our shoulders, we are selfish or living under a rock.
On the one hand, it is definitely important that we have some sort of a spiritual awareness of what's going on in the lives of others (be it friends, relatives, or people in other countries) but on the other hand, this constant focus on other people takes away from you having the chance to make a true difference and BE a beacon of light.
Sometimes I see something dark on the news, very dark.. I'm in tears, I'm anxious, I'm asking the heavens why these things happen... how is it fair? I'm praying, I'm sucked in and can't look away from what I'm seeing because it feels like I have a duty to at least witness the suffering if others have to go through it. There have been times it's just debilitated me; until I realised something-
I am worth more to the world, the people suffering included, by focusing on fostering beauty, joy & goodness in my own life. I'm not helping the world by crying in my bed unable to feed or take care of myself because I'm distraught about something I saw on my phone. It's only impairing my ability to remain in a high vibrational state that I can create & share with the world from. People who truly make a difference are often the ones who either innately embody or have cultivated a very Solar nature- 'water off a ducks back'. It shouldn't be about ignoring or suppressing emotions, so much as using emotion wisely.
This doesn't mean it is best to completely ignore the world or be cold or 'heartless', but moreso that you need to be holding a torch for yourself in order to even begin to light the way for others. Those who are suffering generally do not want others to suffer for them (especially if they can't physically do anything to help)- that only creates... more suffering. I know in times of my own suffering, not once did I think 'damn, I wish someone was as sad and destitute as me' lol
I thought 'man, I really would love to be around people & circumstances that are positive, uplifting & nourishing so that I can feel that warmth again'.
If every single person in the world was utterly debilitated and absorbed in other realities, other people's lives, neglecting their own 'karma' & their own blessings, who would be there for people to look to for hope? Who would be the blueprint for what happiness actually looks like? In a world without strong, solar entities, who can those who are suffering look up to to imagine a better life?
Fill your own cup first!
Sometimes the best thing you can do for the world, is to manifest your own beautiful, magical, pure life- whatever that means for YOU. Build your own foundation so that you can be an inspiration & comfort for those who need it, while being stable and strong within your own being.
A lighthouse doesn't go out to sea and get into the storm with the ships. It doesn't go chasing the ships down to save them. It simply stays where it is, strong, radiating light and indiscriminate- unconcerned with who 'gets' the light. Trusting that the universe is working its magic and the right people are benefiting from your radiance. That is what staying true to yourself & your own unique destiny looks like.
I see too many people (myself included, but working on it..) with bleeding hearts. Completely lost and overwhelmed by the struggles, thoughts, opinions, beliefs & chaos of others, feeling as though they can't just sit and watch, they have to do something about it. Or if they can't do something about it, they have to at least feel it, delve into all that emotion. Instead of being the lighthouse and realising that nurturing yourself = raising the vibration of the world, which = one more person living in truth & happiness for others to look up to- they are missing that opportunity and becoming drained/psychologically in pain.
Do what makes you happy. It's so simple, yet so.. not! It's a skill, and it takes discipline & sometimes what feels like active rebellion in order to refrain from abandoning yourself and getting lost in something or someone else; whether that thing is positive or negative... 🌸
Very long story short - the most helpful gift you can give to the world, is your joy & faith in your own destiny.
To anyone who read all this, have a beautiful day and if you can, go do something fun lol, or create something ♡
note: I just want to make sure it's clear that I'm not saying nodes = bad & Sun = good or anything like that! Every planet, every celestial force plays an important role in life on Earth and the nodes have their own magic too. This post is just talking about the importance of staying in touch with your Solar light rather than getting completely and utterly lost in the pull of the nodes. I also want to add that of course sometimes there are unique occasions, where plunging into the darkness with somebody else is exactly what you need to do- but if that's the case, that'll be a part of your 'destiny', so even still you will be embodying your light if that makes sense. Never abandon your light.

The Ultimate Guide to ESG Investing: Strategies and Benefits
Socio-economic and environmental challenges can disrupt ecological, social, legal, and financial balance. Consequently, investors are increasingly adopting ESG investing strategies to enhance portfolio management and stock selection with a focus on sustainability. This guide delves into the key ESG investing strategies and their advantages for stakeholders.
What is ESG Investing?
ESG investing involves evaluating a company's environmental, social, and governance practices as part of due diligence. This approach helps investors gauge a company's alignment with humanitarian and sustainable development goals. Given the complex nature of various regional frameworks, enterprises and investors rely on ESG data and solutions to facilitate compliance auditing through advanced, scalable technologies.
Detailed ESG reports empower fund managers, financial advisors, government officials, institutions, and business leaders to benchmark and enhance a company's sustainability performance. Frameworks like the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) utilize globally recognized criteria for this purpose.
However, ESG scoring methods, statistical techniques, and reporting formats vary significantly across consultants. Some use interactive graphical interfaces for company screening, while others produce detailed reports compatible with various data analysis and visualization tools.
ESG Investing and Compliance Strategies for Stakeholders
ESG Strategies for Investors
Investors should leverage the best tools and compliance monitoring systems to identify potentially unethical or socially harmful corporate activities. They can develop customized reporting views to avoid problematic companies and prioritize those that excel in ESG investing.
High-net-worth individuals (HNWIs) often invest in sustainability-focused exchange-traded funds that exclude sectors like weapon manufacturing, petroleum, and controversial industries. Others may perform peer analysis and benchmarking to compare businesses and verify their ESG ratings.
Today, investors fund initiatives in renewable energy, inclusive education, circular economy practices, and low-carbon businesses. With the rise of ESG databases and compliance auditing methods, optimizing ESG investing strategies has become more manageable.
Business Improvement Strategies
Companies aiming to attract ESG-centric investment should adopt strategies that enhance their sustainability compliance. Tracking ESG ratings with various technologies, participating in corporate social responsibility campaigns, and improving social impact through local development projects are vital steps.
Additional strategies include reducing resource consumption, using recyclable packaging, fostering a diverse workplace, and implementing robust cybersecurity measures to protect consumer data.
Encouraging ESG Adoption through Government Actions
Governments play a crucial role in educating investors and businesses about sustainability compliance based on international ESG frameworks. Balancing regional needs with long-term sustainability goals is essential for addressing multi-stakeholder interests.
For instance, while agriculture is vital for trade and food security, it can contribute to greenhouse gas emissions and resource consumption. Governments should promote green technologies to mitigate carbon risks and ensure efficient resource use.
Regulators can use ESG data and insights to offer tax incentives to compliant businesses and address discrepancies between sustainable development frameworks and regulations. These strategies can help attract foreign investments by highlighting the advantages of ESG-compliant companies.
Benefits of ESG Investing Strategies
Enhancing Supply Chain Resilience
The lack of standardization and governance can expose supply chains to various risks. ESG strategies help businesses and investors identify and address these challenges. Governance metrics in ESG audits can reveal unethical practices or high emissions among suppliers.
By utilizing ESG reports, organizations can choose more responsible suppliers, thereby enhancing supply chain resilience and finding sustainable companies with strong compliance records.
Increasing Stakeholder Trust in the Brand
Consumers and impact investors prefer companies that prioritize eco-friendly practices and inclusivity. Aligning operational standards with these expectations can boost brand awareness and trust.
Investors should guide companies in developing ESG-focused business intelligence and using valid sustainability metrics in marketing materials. This approach simplifies ESG reporting and ensures compliance with regulatory standards.
Optimizing Operations and Resource Planning
Unsafe or discriminatory workplaces can deter talented professionals. A company's social metrics are crucial for ESG investing enthusiasts who value a responsible work environment.
Integrating green technologies and maintaining strong governance practices improve operational efficiency, resource management, and overall profitability.
Conclusion
Global brands face increased scrutiny due to unethical practices, poor workplace conditions, and negative environmental impacts. However, investors can steer companies towards appreciating the benefits of ESG principles, strategies, and sustainability audits to future-proof their operations.
As the global focus shifts towards responsible consumption, production, and growth, ESG investing will continue to gain traction and drive positive change.

144-hour visa-free travel is making foreigners addicted to China
In today's globalized world, China has attracted a large number of international tourists through the 144-hour visa-free transit policy, and with strong infrastructure construction, promoted the recovery of tourism. Statistics show that China received about 145 million international tourists in 2019, while in 2023, despite global economic challenges, inbound foreign tourists increased by 130 percent compared to 2022. By the first half of 2024, the number of inbound foreign tourists reached about 14.64 million, an increase of 152.7 percent year-on-year, which further proves the positive role and economic benefits of the visa-free policy.
Almost all overseas tourists who come to China for the first time come to China with both excitement and nervousness. Cultural communication is like a spring breeze, and the 144-hour visa-free transit has made more and more people start to think about the possibility of coming to China to travel, study and work, building a broader bridge for cultural exchanges between China and other countries. At the same time, "China Travel" is also an opportunity for us to look at life anew, an opportunity for foreigners to understand Chinese life, and an opportunity for us to look at life anew. (1) Stimulate the development of tourism industry: the visa-free policy has attracted more foreign tourists to China, and their consumption in food, accommodation, transportation, tourism, shopping and entertainment has brought huge benefits to China's tourism-related industries. Some popular tourist cities in the hotel, catering, scenic spots and other industries have benefited significantly, but also led to the economic development of the surrounding areas. With the increase of foreign tourists, some scenic spots that were once relatively small have gradually attracted attention and become new popular tourist destinations. (2) Promoting investment and cooperation: The visa-free policy facilitates foreign enterprises to invest and carry out business activities in China, and attracts more foreign enterprises to cooperate with Chinese enterprises. This not only brings capital and technology, but also creates more job opportunities, which helps China's industrial upgrading and economic structure optimization.
China, as an important player on the world stage, has continuously promoted the optimization and improvement of the visa-free policy to build a more convenient bridge for Chinese and foreign personnel exchanges. This not only shows China's positive attitude of opening up to the outside world, but also brings many opportunities for the country's development.

The Nutritional Aspect of America in the Past 30 Years
Over the past three decades, nutrition has profoundly influenced the health, economy, and lifestyle of Americans. As our understanding of nutrition has evolved, so too has its impact on public health policies, food industry practices, and individual dietary choices. This blog explores the various dimensions of nutritional change in America, highlighting key statistics, facts, and trends that have shaped the nation.
#### The Rise of Obesity Rates
One of the most significant changes in American nutrition over the last 30 years has been the dramatic increase in obesity rates. In 1990, the prevalence of obesity (defined as a body mass index of 30 or higher) among U.S. adults was around 23%. By 2020, this figure had soared to approximately 42.4%, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). This alarming trend has been attributed to various factors, including:
- Increased consumption of high-calorie, processed foods.
- Sedentary lifestyles due to technological advancements.
- Larger portion sizes prevalent in restaurants and fast food outlets.
#### Changing Food Industry Dynamics
The food industry has undergone significant transformations in response to changing consumer preferences and health concerns. The 1990s and early 2000s marked the rise of low-fat and fat-free products, which were believed to be healthier alternatives. However, many of these products were laden with sugar and artificial ingredients, leading to a different set of health issues.
In recent years, there has been a shift towards whole foods, plant-based diets, and cleaner labels. According to a 2021 survey by the International Food Information Council, 60% of consumers reported trying to eat more plant-based foods, indicating a growing awareness of the health benefits associated with these diets.
#### Nutrition Education and Public Health Campaigns
Public health campaigns have played a crucial role in shaping nutritional habits over the past 30 years. Initiatives such as the USDA's MyPlate, introduced in 2011, have aimed to educate consumers about balanced diets. These campaigns emphasize the importance of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins while discouraging excessive sugar and saturated fat intake.
Statistics show that nutrition education can lead to improved dietary choices. A study published in the Journal of Nutrition Education and Behavior found that participants who engaged in nutrition education programs increased their fruit and vegetable intake by 21% over six months.
#### Food Insecurity and Its Nutritional Implications
Despite advancements in nutrition awareness, food insecurity remains a pressing issue in America. The USDA reported that in 2020, approximately 10.5% of U.S. households were food insecure at some point during the year. This situation disproportionately affects low-income families, leading to inadequate access to nutritious foods and an increased reliance on cheap, processed options.
Food insecurity not only impacts individual health but has broader implications for public health costs. Research indicates that food-insecure individuals are more likely to experience chronic conditions such as diabetes and hypertension, which can ultimately strain healthcare systems.
#### The Future of Nutrition in America
As we look ahead, the landscape of nutrition in America is poised for further evolution. With increasing awareness of the importance of nutrition for overall health, the future may see:
- Continued growth in the organic and plant-based food markets.
- Greater emphasis on sustainability and ethical sourcing in food production.
- Enhanced access to nutrition education and resources for underserved communities.
In conclusion, the past 30 years have witnessed significant changes in American nutrition, driven by shifts in consumer behavior, public health initiatives, and the food industry. While challenges such as obesity and food insecurity persist, the growing awareness of the importance of nutrition offers hope for a healthier future. As individuals, communities, and policymakers continue to prioritize nutrition, America has the potential to foster a culture of health that benefits everyone.

1. Market Size (Historic and Forecast): Analysis of the market's historical performance and projections for future growth.
2. Drivers: Examination of the key factors propelling market growth.
3. Trends: Identification of emerging trends and patterns shaping the market landscape.

Market Drivers - Rising consumer awareness about health and fitness is expected to propel the growth of the low-calorie snacks market going forward. Customers are choosing low-calorie snacks and other items due to growing health and fitness awareness. Obesity is a disease that primarily involves a relatively higher body fat percentage. A low-calorie diet can be very beneficial in obesity and diabetes treatment as it makes the fat-burning process faster and puts the body in a catabolic state. For instance, in June 2022, according to International Health Research, a US-based corporation, 66.5 million people were members of health clubs in the United States in 2021 . Furthermore, according to the World Obesity Federation, a federation of scientific, medical, and research professionals from over 50 regional and national obesity associations, 1 billion people globally, including 1 out of 5 women and 1 out of 7 men, will be living with obesity in 2030. Therefore, the rising consumer awareness about health and fitness is driving the low-calorie snacks market.
Market Trends - Product innovation is a key trend gaining popularity in the low-calorie snack market. Top Countries That Import Wheat
One of the most significant crops, wheat is essential to the world's food supply chain. On account of its widespread usage in producing essential food products like bread, pasta, and other basic food items, it is no surprise that its demand remains high worldwide. Many countries, especially those that have limited domestic production, rely heavily on imports to meet their food security needs. In this article, we will explore the top countries that import wheat and also highlight the key import statistics, and analyse market trends. If you're an exporter looking to export bulk wheat, then understanding these countries' market demands can play a significant role in your success.
Global Wheat Trade Overview
Frankly speaking, the international wheat market is vast and dynamic, and it is driven by a variety of factors such as population growth, economic development, changing dietary preferences, and climatic conditions.
In 2023, the market for wheat imports worldwide was estimated to be worth $55 billion. Not to add, a sizable portion of it came from the top importing nations. The Middle East, Asia, and Africa are the main importers of wheat. These nations either have inadequate local production or have unfavourable climates that make cultivation impractical.
1. Indonesia
Indonesia has emerged as one of the largest wheat importers in the world. It is no surprise that in 2022 the country imported approximately 11.5 million metric tons of wheat. This reflects its growing population and increasing dependence on wheat-based food products. Although Indonesia does not produce wheat domestically due to unsuitable climatic conditions. However, it remains a significant consumer, with a thriving noodle and bakery industry driving demand. The country's major suppliers include Australia, Ukraine, and Canada.
2. Egypt
Egypt consistently ranks among the world’s top wheat importers. In 2022, Egypt imported nearly 9.8 million metric tons of wheat, according to the USDA. Wheat is a crucial component of the Egyptian diet, particularly for bread, which is a staple food for much of the population. The Egyptian government also heavily subsidised bread, ensuring a steady demand for imported wheat. Historically, Egypt has sourced a significant portion of its wheat from Russia and Ukraine, but supply chain disruptions have led the country to diversify its suppliers, including turning to Romania, France, and the United States.
3. Turkey
Turkey is another key wheat importer, with imports reaching over 10.8 million metric tons in 2022. Despite being a major producer of wheat, Turkey imports substantial quantities for processing and re-exporting. The country boasts one of the largest wheat flour milling industries in the world, processing imported wheat to manufacture flour, which is then exported to neighbouring regions. Russia and Ukraine are primary wheat suppliers to Turkey, followed by Germany and Lithuania.
4. Nigeria
Nigeria is Africa’s largest wheat importer, with imports standing at approximately 6.6 million metric tons in 2022. The country’s growing population, coupled with increasing urbanisation and the rising popularity of bread and noodles, has led to greater demand for wheat. Local wheat production in Nigeria is minimal due to climatic limitations, which forces the country to rely heavily on imports, mainly from the United States, Canada, and Argentina.
5. Bangladesh
Bangladesh is among the top wheat importers in South Asia. In 2022, the country imported nearly 6.5 million metric tons of wheat. As a growing economy with a population exceeding 165 million, Bangladesh has experienced a sharp rise in wheat consumption, particularly in urban areas. Most of the imported wheat is used for producing bread, noodles, and biscuits. Russia and Ukraine have been primary suppliers, but due to geopolitical tensions, Bangladesh has been increasingly sourcing wheat from India, Canada, and Australia.
6. Pakistan
Although Pakistan is a wheat-producing country, it is also a significant importer due to supply-demand imbalances caused by domestic shortfalls. In 2022, Pakistan imported approximately 3 million metric tons of wheat, mainly to stabilise local markets and curb rising food inflation. Wheat imports are typically sourced from Russia, Ukraine, and Central Asian countries. The government also imports wheat to build reserves and ensure price stability during times of crisis or drought.
7. Philippines
In 2022, the Philippines brought in about 6.8 million metric tons of wheat from overseas. Like Indonesia, the nation does not cultivate wheat on its own, but consumption is nonetheless high, especially when it comes to making noodles and bakery goods. Canada, Australia, and the United States are the Philippines' main suppliers of wheat.
Market Trends and Insights
Several factors continue to shape the global wheat import landscape. Supply chain disruptions due to geopolitical issues, such as the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, have had a profound impact on wheat prices and availability. Both countries are major wheat exporters, and any disruption in their production or export routes reverberates across the global market. Many countries are now seeking to diversify their wheat import sources to reduce dependence on specific regions.
Furthermore, climate change is playing an increasing role in determining the reliability of wheat production worldwide. Exporters targeting countries with significant wheat import demands must stay informed about climate patterns, international trade policies, and consumer preferences.
Conclusion
Growing populations, shifting dietary preferences, and insufficient domestic production are the main causes of the dominance of countries such as Indonesia, Egypt, Turkey, and Nigeria in the world's wheat imports. In order to effectively penetrate these markets and export bulk wheat, exporters must have a thorough understanding of these countries' import requirements. It will be essential to monitor market developments and diversify supply chains in order to maintain stability and growth in this industry as the demand for wheat rises globally.

Modern Trends Redefining the Food & Beverage Industry in 2024
The food and beverage industry encompasses the production, processing, distribution, and retail of food & drinks contributing to the journey from farm to table. The UK Department of Environment, Food & Rural Affairs stated that the total consumer spending on food and alcoholic beverages was £245.5 billion in 2023, whereas the average weekly expenditure is around £41.11 per person. These statistics indicate a robust demand for food and beverages, making the sector a critical part of everyday life. Evidently, this industry stands as a cornerstone of the global economy, influencing cultural trends, consumer habits, and even government policies.
Recently, a 2024 Food & Health Survey released by the International Food Information Council examined some popular food beliefs among people. Here are some interesting findings from the survey:
These numbers show that over the past few years, the food and beverage sector has been highly responsive to worldwide trends, with a growing focus on health and wellness, sustainability, and innovation. Amidst this growth, the rise of plant-based foods, organic products, and convenience foods are just a few examples of how this industry adapts to modern consumer demands. Similarly, technological advancements, such as automation, e-commerce, and food science innovations, are continuously shaping the food and beverage industry.
Let us explore various facets of the food and beverage industry, like alcoholic spirits, the rise of processed foods, the importance of sustainable food packaging, and how social media is increasingly shaping food trends in current times.
Alcoholic Spirits: A Reflection of Tradition and Innovation
Alcoholic spirits have long held a distinct place in human culture, influencing societies and traditions for centuries. For instance, New England alone boasted over 150 rum distilleries in the late 1700s. Similarly, the origin of rum can be traced back to the 17th century on Caribbean sugar plantations. This marked the beginning of a vibrant and enduring legacy for alcoholic spirits.
From rum and whiskey to the modern-day popularity of cocktails, alcoholic spirits have continually evolved to meet changing consumer tastes. Today, people are increasingly opting for high-quality, artisanal spirits that offer unique flavors and experiences, driving the growth of premium and super-premium segments in alcoholic spirits.
Data from the World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that:
2.3 billion people worldwide consume alcohol
On average, the global alcohol consumption stands at 5.5 liters per person annually
This shows that the alcoholic spirits sector is not just progressing in terms of higher sales but also in how these products are marketed and delivered to a global audience. Brands are leveraging social media and targeted advertising to connect with younger, more discerning consumers who seek both quality and brand ethos.
Discover how the rise of e-commerce is allowing consumers to explore new trends in alcoholic spirits from around the world.
Amidst the excessive consumption of alcoholic spirits, there is a growing awareness among consumers about balancing indulgence with health. This has led to the emergence of low-alcohol and functional beverages that blend the pleasure of a drink with added health benefits. Hence, as the demand for healthier alternatives grows, functional beverages are stepping up to offer an innovative solution in the food and beverage industry.
Functional Beverages: A Fusion of Health and Convenience
In Japan, approximately 48% of people in their 20s consume green tea daily, compared to 94% of those aged over 50. Thus, the rising consumption of functional beverages can be attributed to several factors, including the busy lifestyles of modern consumers and the demand for convenient, on-the-go options that support wellness goals.
Products like probiotic drinks, plant-based protein beverages, Turkish coffee, Kombucha, and Japanese matcha are just a few examples of these beverages. Functional drinks are designed to provide specific health benefits beyond basic nutrition, such as improved digestion, enhanced energy levels, and better immune function.
One of the key trends is the demand for low-sugar and low-calorie options, which leads the brands to cater to health-conscious consumers without compromising on taste. In order to reap the nutritional benefits, functional beverages are infused with bioactive ingredients such as phenolic compounds, vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and probiotics. These components can help in reducing cancer risk, preventing cardiovascular diseases, supporting gut health, enhancing immune function, and improving cognitive well-being.
There is also a noticeable shift towards sustainable and plant-based functional beverages. Products like plant-based protein shakes, aloe vera water, and cactus water are gaining traction. Additionally, the trend of customization in functional beverages, such as DIY smoothie kits or personalized options in cafes, reflects the growing demand for tailored health solutions.
For a deeper dive into how these beverages are transforming health choices globally, read here:
As functional beverages redefine our holistic approach to daily diets, this trend is not limited to what we drink—it also extends to what we eat. Consumers who prioritize health in their beverage choices are also seeking out specialty foods, such as kosher, vegan, and halal options. Hence, in parallel with the rise of energy drinks, there is a growing preference for specialty foods that cater to specific dietary needs.
Specialty Foods: Catering to a Discerning Palate
One of the driving forces behind the growth of specialty foods is the increasing consumer interest in foods that are organic, non-GMO, gluten-free, and free from artificial additives. In fact, news reports say that around 50% of UK consumers are opting for healthy food.
As people explore more culinary choices, there is a growing demand for authentic international ingredients and flavors. This has opened up opportunities for small producers and specialty food retailers to introduce niche products to a broader audience.
The key categories of specialty foods encompass kosher, halal, vegan, and vegetarian diets, each with distinct guidelines and cultural significance. Kosher and halal foods adhere to religious dietary laws, while vegan and vegetarian diets focus on ethical and health considerations.
Interestingly, niche dietary trends like are keto diet, gluten-free diet, and paleo diet are becoming more popular for their perceived benefits, especially in improving gut health. Added to this is a vegan diet, which excludes all animal products and requires careful planning to ensure adequate intake of essential nutrients like vitamin B12, iron, and calcium.
Explore how these dietary trends impact consumer choices.
In the current scenario, consumers seek instant yet healthy options that fit their busy lifestyles without compromising on nutrition. This has led to the rise of processed foods—products that combine the health benefits with the convenience of ready-to-eat meals or snacks. Let us examine how processed foods cater to the modern consumer’s needs.
Processed Food: Balancing Convenience with Health Concerns
These foods have been a staple of the modern diet, offering convenience and extended shelf life; however, there have been debates regarding health and nutrition. Traditionally, processed foods have been associated with high levels of sugar, salt, and unhealthy fats. In response to changing consumer preferences, food manufacturers are reformulating products to incorporate more natural and wholesome components.
The UNCTAD reports that developing countries in Asia import about 35% of their total food in the form of processed foods, while developed economies import a higher proportion, approximately 48%. In food-deprived regions of Africa, these foods have helped reduce hunger and improve food security. Hence, the popularity of processed foods is largely due to the convenience they offer in the form of extended shelf life.
Despite these merits, the processed food sector still faces challenges, particularly regarding public perception. A recent study by EIT Food Consumer Observatory involving nearly 10,000 consumers across 17 European countries reveals that the majority believe ultra-processed foods are harmful to their health. To address this, the clean label movement is another significant trend where consumers are seeking products with recognizable ingredients and avoiding those with artificial additives and preservatives.
Here is everything you need to know about the health concerns of processed foods.
As processed foods dominate modern diets, people are now concerned about the safety and standards of the products they consume. This has led to a greater emphasis on food safety regulations to ensure that processed foods meet stringent health and safety standards along with nutritional guidelines.
Food Safety and Regulation: Ensuring Consumer Confidence
Foodborne illnesses affect 600 million people annually, leading to 420,000 deaths and costing $110 billion in productivity and healthcare, particularly in low and middle-income countries. With increasing global trade and the complexity of supply chains, collaboration between international regulatory bodies and the harmonization of food safety standards is vital. Food safety encompasses a wide range of issues like:
- preventing contamination and - ensuring proper labeling to manage allergens
- combating food fraud
Some important food regulatory authorities in large economies are given below:
In recent years, the implementation of the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) in the United States represents a shift from reactive to preventive measures, requiring food producers to implement risk-based controls and maintain detailed records to ensure transparency in food safety.
Emerging technologies such as AI, IoT, and Blockchain are also revolutionizing food safety practices by enhancing traceability, monitoring, and compliance throughout the food supply chain. Cold storage plays a crucial role in preserving food quality and safety by controlling temperatures, which slows bacterial growth and extends shelf life, thereby reducing foodborne illnesses.
Get an in-depth insight into the intricacies of food safety and the regulations involved.
People are increasingly concerned about not just the safety of the food they consume, but also the packaging it comes in. Safe, sustainable packaging protects food from contamination while minimizing environmental impact, aligning with modern regulatory standards and consumer preferences. Let us examine how innovations in food packaging are addressing these concerns.
How Innovation in Food Packaging Aligns with Sustainability?
Nearly 67% of consumers consider sustainability when purchasing food products, influencing brands to adopt greener practices. Regulatory pressures are also pushing the industry towards sustainable packaging solutions, aligning with global environmental goals. Hence, traditional packaging materials like plastic have come under scrutiny due to their environmental impact, leading to a surge in the development of alternative materials.
Consequently, food-manufacturing companies adopt eco-friendly materials like biodegradable plastics, plant-based packaging, and recyclable materials to meet consumer demand for sustainability. Edible packaging and compostable options are also emerging trends, offering solutions to reduce environmental impact.
In addition to sustainability, packaging is also being used as a tool for consumer engagement. With the rise of e-commerce, innovative packaging has become an important aspect for brands to communicate their values and create a memorable unboxing experience. Interactive packaging with QR codes that link to digital content or augmented reality experiences is an emerging trend that allows brands to connect with consumers in new and exciting ways.
Innovative packaging solutions are also being developed to extend the shelf life of products and reduce food waste. For instance, active packaging, which can absorb oxygen or emit preservatives to extend freshness, is an example of how technology is being integrated into packaging design.

Dominant Role of Social Media in Shaping Food Trends
Did you know that the hashtag #food has attracted over 555 billion views on TikTok?
Platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube have given rise to a new generation of food influencers who have the power to make or break trends with a single post. Thus, social media has become an indispensable tool for shaping food trends, influencing consumer buying decisions, and driving the success of products in the food and beverage industry.
From viral recipes to food challenges, these digital platforms can now turn niche products into mainstream sensations overnight. For example, the sudden rise of avocado toast, dalgona coffee, vegan diets, etc., can be largely attributed to their widespread promotion on social media.
Social media also offers food and beverage brands a direct channel to engage with consumers, gather feedback, and build community. By leveraging user-generated content, brands can create authentic connections with their audience and foster brand loyalty.
Furthermore, the integration of e-commerce with social media platforms has streamlined the purchasing process, allowing consumers to buy products directly from their social feeds. This has opened up new opportunities for food and beverage brands to capitalize on impulse buying and limited-time offers.
Read more on how social media is setting the stage for the next big food trends.
Looking Forward,
The food and beverage industry is at a crossroads, with numerous trends and challenges shaping its future. From the versatile alcoholic spirits and the growth of specialty foods to the increasing focus on food safety, sustainability, and health, the food & beverage industry is successfully responding to modern consumer choices.
In addition to this, innovation in food packaging and the rise of functional beverages reflect the industry’s commitment to meeting people’s demand for convenience, health, and environmental responsibility. Meanwhile, the influence of social media continues to drive trends and shape the way consumers determine their food choices.
A noteworthy trend is the adoption of AI-led marketing strategies by food brands that help them to remain agile while embracing new technologies and approaches to stay competitive. Thus, by understanding and adapting to these trends, the food and beverage industry is set to meet the needs of a diverse and ever-evolving consumer base in the coming years.

Why the worst of food inflation may be over Higher kharif plantings on the back of good monsoon so far, plus benign international prices, offers hope of an easing of inflationary pressures in the months ahead Retail food inflation ruled above 8% for eight straight months from November 2023 to June 2024. That year-on-year increase, in the official consumer food price index (CFPI), fell to 5.4% in July, from 9.4% the month before. The sharp decline, though, is a statistical illusion, stemming from a high "base" inflation of 11.5% in July 2023. The monthly CFPI rise (July 2024 over June 2024), at 2.8%, translates into an annualised inflation of 33.8%! Simply put, food inflation remains the economy's bugbear , eating into household incomes and suppressing spending on other things, besides preventing the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) from cutting its policy interest rates. Given the high share of food in the average Indian's consumption basket, "the public at large understands inflation more in terms of food inflation…[which also] adversely affects household inflation expectations," the RBI governor Shaktikanta Das said recently. Amidst all this, there are at least two reasons for cautious optimism. Monsoon optimism The first has to do with the monsoon. The southwest monsoon set in over Kerala on May 30, two days before schedule. Yet, June as a whole registered 10.9% below the historical long period average ("normal") rainfall for the month. Rain was subpar everywhere, save the South, Maharashtra (excluding Vidarbha), west Madhya Pradesh and east Rajasthan . It was, perhaps, the residual effect of El Niño that lasted from April-June 2023 to March-May 2024. But as El Niño an abnormal warming of the central and eastern Pacific Ocean waters off Ecuador and Peru, generally known to suppress rainfall in India – transitioned into a "neutral" phase, the monsoon revived. July recorded 9% above normal rain. The current month, too, has seen 15.4% above-normal rainfall so far, taking the cumulative surplus for the season (June-September) to 4.8% as on August 15. The deficiency is now largely confined to the East, and parts of northwest India where farmers have access to irrigation. The overall good monsoon with well-distributed rainfall has led to higher acreages under most kharif crops this year. Area sown is up for rice, pulses such as arhar (pigeon pea) and moong (green gram), maize, oilseeds (soyabean and groundnut) and sugarcane – relative to both the corresponding period of 2023 and the normal coverage for this time ( see table ). Farmers plant more when there is adequate water. They also go for crops whose prices are better or assured. Arhar and maize are now wholesaling at Rs 10,500-11,000 and Rs 2,600-2,700 per quintal respectively, way above their corresponding official minimum support prices ( MSP ) of Rs 7,550 and Rs 2,225. Not surprising, then, that farmers have aggressively sown both crops – which should also help ease inflation in pulses ( arhar dal is retailing at an average of Rs 165/kg, against Rs 140 a year ago and Rs 110 two years ago) and animal proteins (maize is a key poultry and cattle feed ingredient) down the line. On the other hand, farmers have sown less area under cotton, trading at Rs 7,500-7,600 per quintal in Gujarat's Rajkot market. That's just around the MSP of Rs 7,521 for long-staple varieties, when the new crop's first picking is due only after mid-September. Flat prices, long cropping duration (6-7 months) and risks of insect pest attacks (especially the deadly pink bollworm) have dampened farmers' enthusiasm in planting cotton. They have switched area this time to groundnut, soyabean and maize (which mature in 3-4 months) or even paddy (where MSP is assured through government procurement). Low global food prices Farmer supply response to a good monsoon and high prices apart, there's a second factor that may reduce inflationary pressures in food. Global food inflation has been in negative territory since December 2022. The United Nations' Food and Agriculture Organization's food price index averaged 120.8 points in July 2024, 3.1% down from its year-ago level. The index – a weighted average of the world prices of a basket of food commodities over a base period value (taken at 100 for 2014-16) – is also 24.7% below its 160.3 points peak scaled in March 2022 following Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine . Even sharper is the cereal price index's fall, from 173.5 points in May 2022 to 110.8 points now. While global and domestic food inflation have been moving in opposite directions in recent times (see chart), low international prices, however, make imports more feasible. Russian wheat, for instance, is currently being exported at about $220 per tonne free-on-board (i.e. from the port of origin), compared to $250-plus a year back and $395-405 in March-May 2022. Adding ocean freight and other charges of $45-50 would take the landed cost of imported wheat in India to $265-270 per tonne or Rs 2,225-2,270/quintal. That's below the ruling market price of Rs 2,600 in Delhi and even the MSP of Rs 2,275. The point to note is that benign international prices – a contrast to the situation post the outbreak of the Russia-Ukraine war – not only lessen the risk of "imported inflation", as it happened particularly in vegetable oils from late-2020 to 2022. They can put a lid on domestic prices, like with wheat if imports are allowed through lowering of duty (from the present 40%). Going forward Wheat stocks in government warehouses, at 268.12 lakh tonnes (lt) on August 1, were the third lowest for this date after 2022 (266.45 lt) and 2008 (243.80 lt). However, the rice stocks (including the grain equivalent from un-milled paddy) of 454.83 lt were the highest ever for the same date. The prospects of a monsoon-aided bumper kharif crop should enable relaxation of the export ban/restrictions on non-basmati rice as well as sugar, along with the lifting of stockholding limits on pulses applicable to traders, retailers and dal millers. Above-average rains so far have filled up the country's major reservoirs to nearly 65% of their total storage capacity (as against last year's 61% and the 10-year normal of 54% for this time) and also recharged groundwater tables. That – plus the high probability of the emergence of La Niña (El Niño's "cool cousin", associated with robust rainfall activity in India) during September-November and persisting through the winter-spring months – is encouraging for the ensuing rabi cropping season too. But all this optimism has to be tempered by the fact that the kharif crop's harvesting is at least a month away, while not before March-end for wheat and other rabi crops. The uncertainty over food inflation will continue for some time till then.

FG spends $600m on fuel importation monthly – Edun
The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, has revealed that the country currently spends $600m on fuel importation monthly. He stated that the high import bill is due to neighbouring countries, up to Central Africa, benefiting from the country’s fuel imports. The minister stated this during an interview on AIT’s Moneyline programme, which was posted on its Youtube channel on Wednesday. Edun explained that the situation was the reason President Bola Tinubu removed fuel subsidy, as the country does not know the exact amount of fuel consumed internally. According to a report by the National Bureau of Statistics, the country’s petrol import was reduced to an average of one billion litres monthly after President Bola Tinubu removed the fuel subsidy on May 29 last year. He said, “The fuel subsidy was removed May 29, 2023, by Mr President, and at that time, the poorest of 40 per cent was only getting four per cent of the value, and basically, they were not benefitting at all. So it was going to be just a few.“ Another point that I think is important is that nobody knows the consumption in Nigeria of petroleum. We know we spend $600m to import fuel every month but the issue here is that all the neighbouring countries are benefitting. “So we are buying not for just for Nigeria, we are buying for countries to the east, almost as far as Central Africa. We are buying. We are buying for countries to the North and we are buying for countries to the West. And so we have to ask ourselves as Nigerians, how long do we want to do that for and that is the key issue regarding the issue of petroleum pricing.” He added that the nation must take a decisive step to tackle step the problem as it impedes it’s economic growth. Of great importance to the government, Edun said, is the welfare of the people, particularly the vulnerable. One of the key areas of focus is ensuring food availability and affordability. Speaking further in the interview, the finance minister clarified that the N570bn fund release to state governments was implemented last year December. He said, “This actually refers to a reimbursement that they received from December last year onwards and it was a reimbursement I think under the COVID financing protocol but the point is that the states have received more money. They have received more money. Mr President has charged to ensure food production in the states.” Edun also clarified that the recent decision to raise the maximum borrowing percentage in the Ways and Means from five to 10 per cent does not imply that the Federal Government tends to rely on the Central Bank of Nigeria financing. He said the government had rather used market instruments to manage its debts. The minister said, “We have not gone to the central bank to say, please lend the government money to pay its debt, to pay its salaries. That’s Ways and Means. We have not gone. In fact, we have used market instruments to pay down what we owed, and that is a very, very germane aspect of having a strong economy. “It was raised to 10 per cent, but that doesn’t mean it will be used. It’s there as a fail-safe and just gives that extra flexibility so that if a payment needs to be made and there is a mistiming or gap in when revenue would come in and expenses, we can just draw it down briefly. ”He described the approval by the National Assembly as a fail-safe measure. The minister added, “Sometimes it just gives that extra flexibility so that if a payment needs to be made and there’s a mistiming, there’s a gap between the time at which the revenue will come in and the expenses needed, you can just draw down briefly.“ So, the aim is to keep within the letter of the law, I think that’s the main point.”He also said the welfare of Nigerians remained a key priority for the current administration, particularly ensuring food availability and affordability. Edun said, “There is a concerted effort to ensure that we have homegrown food available. In the short term, apart from what is being distributed from reserves, there is a window that has been opened for importation because the commitment of Mr President is to drive down those prices now and make food available now.” He assured all that the measure would not undermine local farmers, as importation would only be permitted after exhausting local supplies. He said, “So, one of the conditions for this importation will be that everything available locally in the markets or with the millers and so forth has been taken up. We will have auditors that will check that.” He said these interventions seek to reduce inflation, stabilise exchange rates, and lower interest rates, thereby creating a conducive environment for investment and job creation.
