Despite knowing that Pelicot's trial would be groundbreaking in terms of rapists' convictions, I couldn’t bring myself to follow it. Even with the overwhelming evidence that would guarantee sentences and demonstrate that the rapes did happen. That it wouldn’t be a case of He Said She Said. Not even because of the videos that I knew would be shown, but because of the way Gisèle Pelicot would be treated. The questioning she'd have to face, because evidence for and against is one of the bases of french law. The way vulture like lawyers would slice and chop her testimony for inconsistencies, for any way or opportunities to spare their clients a few years in jail. Never had Dominique planned on this the first time she had seen Isaac. She hadn't planned on seeing the young man more often than others after school hours. As she walked towards an empty bench, Paine set the flower on fire and turned it into ashes, then walked to the bench to sit next to her too.
