Look what I found on a second-hand website!
It's a three-hole recorder, and after some research I'm pretty sure it's a Galoubet, a recorder from Provence (South of France), traditionally played with a large drum called Tambourin.

I’d love to try it out, but the mouthpiece isn’t in great shape. Actually, the block worries me a little...
However, the rest of the maintenance seems manageable to me: a good cleaning (which is already in progress), a thorough oiling because the inside of the recorder is really dry, and re-wrapping the tenon thread.
After that, I think it will be ok to carefully give it a try. I’ll let you know how it goes!

Brought home my late father's guitar when I went home to get his ashes. It had been in a basement for two years since he died, was not in great condition, but I fixed it up!
The wood of the pegs was all rotten and crumbled when I pulled them out to restring it, so I replaced those and the strings and got all the mold out/polished and oiled it and its looking pretty snazzy now!

What Your Band Teacher Might Not Tell You About Instrument Maintenance
When you join the school band and pick up a musical instrument for the first time, the excitement of making music often overshadows the practicalities of instrument maintenance. While your band teacher covers the basics of handling and care, they likely will not have time to cover the nuances of each instrument’s upkeep regimen. Let’s dive into some essential maintenance tips to consider. 1.…

The Essential Guide to Banjo Strings: Finding Your Perfect Fit
Banjo strings are often an overlooked component of a musician's gear, yet they play a crucial role in shaping the instrument's sound and performance. Whether you're a seasoned player or just starting out, understanding the different types of banjo strings can elevate your playing experience.
Types of Banjo Strings
Material Matters: Banjo strings are typically made from various materials, including steel, nylon, and silk.
Steel strings produce a bright and crisp tone, making them popular among bluegrass and folk musicians.
Nylon strings offer a warmer sound and are easier on the fingers, appealing to beginners and those who play clawhammer style.
Silk and steel strings offer a hybrid option, combining the warmth of silk with the brightness of steel.
Gauge Selection: String gauge refers to the thickness of the string, which can greatly affect playability and tone. Lighter gauge strings are easier to bend and fret, while heavier gauges can provide more volume and sustain. If you’re unsure, starting with a medium gauge can give you a well-rounded experience.
When selecting banjo strings, consider your playing style and genre. Bluegrass players often prefer brighter, more resonant sounds offered by steel strings, while clawhammer players may opt for nylon or silk. Furthermore, trying out various brands can lead you to discover your favorite sound, as each manufacturer may have unique winding processes that influence tone and durability.
Keeping your banjo strings in good condition is crucial for maintaining sound quality. Regularly wiping down your strings after playing can help prevent grime buildup. It’s also important to change your strings regularly — a good rule of thumb is to replace them once a month or when you notice a decline in sound quality.
Banjo strings are more than just a necessity; they're a key element in crafting your musical identity. Experimenting with different materials and gauges can lead to new discoveries in your playing style and sound. So, don’t overlook those strings—embrace them, and let your banjo sing its unique melody! Happy picking!

Water my piano with me! and FAQ :)
The original video passed 300k on the clockapp (wild!), so I have added a new part with answers to some questions. The info I share is from my own experience as a classical pianist, but I am not a piano technician. My system was installed over a decade ago, so things may have changed now. Please consult with your piano tuner/technician since piano maintenance will depend on the environment you are in.
The wording on the manufacturer's site does indeed instruct you to "Water Your Piano." Don't actually put water directly into your piano, though!
For more videos: YouTube (classicalsqueak) / Video Index
For sheet music: Ko-fi (classicalsqueak) or SMP* (published by Ylan Chu)

In the article "Flying in Alaska — The Last Frontier" published on The Armory Life and written by Will Dabbs, MD, the author recounts his experiences as a helicopter pilot stationed in Alaska during his military service. Hoping for an assignment in Europe, Dabbs was instead sent to Alaska, where the challenging weather and rugged terrain became his new reality. He describes the transformative experience of flying CH-47D Chinook helicopters across vast, pristine landscapes, including daring missions and breathtaking natural beauty. The narrative highlights the harsh conditions and unpredictable wildlife, such as wolves and grizzly bears, and the camaraderie formed within his unit. Dabbs shares stories of unique survival exercises and historical aircraft wrecks encountered, ultimately expressing both the hardships and the profound impact of serving in America's last frontier.

As the proud owner of a piano, you know that proper care and maintenance are required to ensure that it continues producing beautiful music. While regular tuning and repairs are essential, many piano owners overlook the importance of cleaning their instruments.
