He also made sure that even if Jonathan somehow escapes HE CANNOT LEAVE THE COUNTRY

Case in point why I will forever seethe about how every adaptation drops the ball not just in doing right by the characters and story, but in completely neglecting the psychological horror aspect of Dracula’s threat. He’s a manipulative abusive control freak of a sadist who’s closing Jonathan’s world down into the prison of the castle, one little infringement and cruelty after another
