The song’s big question: “Do I throw out everything we built or keep it?”

Y/n L/n’s lyrical candidness is what has always made her standout as a songwriter. Whether she was writing about young love, relationships, or breakups, her songs never flinched from trying to paint a full picture, even if it was one that was hard to look at.

It’s been a while since the super star has released a breakup song, but it was only a matter of time; since the singer split with Charles Leclerc, fans have already began anticipating the inevitable breakup album. But it turns out they didn’t have to wait long. At Midnight (July 17), L/n released a second deluxe edition of her 2022 album Midnights, which included four new songs, among them the release of “You’re Losing Me,” a song fans have deciphered as ostensibly about her split with Leclerc.

The nearly 5-minute track is a devastating relationship ender if we’ve ever heard one, as it details the hopeless and tragic dissolution of a relationship. Though L/n doesn’t include any names or details, it’s not hard to see why fans are interpreting it as being about her and Leclerc. 

When Entertainment Weekly first broke the news of their split in April, sources for both parties diplomatically described the breakup as amicable, and that “it was not dramatic.” “The relationship had just run its course,” one source told ET. However, that story was debunked as L/n herself, stated Leclerc had an affair with Australian Youtuber Lola Ransdell, in one of her Eras Tour Shows.  With the release of “You’re Losing Me,” L/n seems to offer a window into her perspective of how things ended while also releasing one of the most devastating songs she’s ever written.

Its lyrics don’t waste any time getting into the tragic heart of the matter. “You say, ‘I don't understand,’ and I say, ‘I know you don’t’/ We thought a cure would come through in time, now, I fear it won’t/ Remember looking at this room, we loved it ‘cause of the light/ Now I just sit in the dark and wonder if it's time,” she sings in the first verse, painting a portrait of two people who are unaligned and have seemingly grown apart in their relationship.

The pre-chorus lays out the song’s big question: “Do I throw out everything we built or keep it?” But waiting for resolution feels like something L/n doesn’t want to do anymore: “I'm getting tired, even for a phoenix/ Always rising from the ashes/ Mending all her gashes/ You might just have dealt the final blow,” she sings.

The most heart-wrenching part of the song comes in on the chorus, as she warns her other half, “Stop, you're losing me/ Stop, you’re losing me/ Stop, you’re losing me I can't find a pulse/ My heart won't start anymore/ For you/ ‘Cause you're losing me.” The lyrics mirror the song’s production which sounds like a quietly pulsing heartbeat, driving the knife’s blade of the song in even deeper.

Perhaps L/n’s biggest skill on this song is being able to convey all the heartbreak and roiling emotion without actually providing any specifics into the breakup. 

“You’re Losing Me” is rife with frank, confessional lyrics, but still keeps many of the exact contours of the split obscure. There are no accusations or fingers pointed at who’s at fault. There are no mic drop moments or explosive gossip; The closest L/n gets to revealing any details is on the second verse, when she seems to suggest that the relationship hadn’t been OK for a while now.

“Every morning, I glared at you with storms in my eyes/ How can you say that you love someone you can't tell is dying?/ I sent you signals and bit my nails down to the quick/ My face was gray, but you wouldn't admit that we were sick,” she sings.

On the bridge, L/n reveals that she “wouldn’t marry me either,” perhaps offering the tiniest, sliver of hints into one of the other reasons why they ultimately fell apart: “And I wouldn't marry me either/ A pathological people pleaser/ Who only wanted you to see her/ And I'm fading, thinking/ Do something, babe, say something (say something)/ Lose something, babe, risk something (risk something)/ Choose something, babe, I got nothing (I got nothing)/ To believe, unless you’re choosing me.”

It’s the lack of details, the palpable restraint despite L/n’s clear heartbreak behind its lyrics, that makes “You’re Losing Me” perhaps the most devastating song in her catalog (yes, even more so than “All Too Well.”) Amid the grief and sadness of the song, there’s also a feeling of inevitability, of sorrow that nothing more could be done, of pointlessly waiting for action when you know nothing is coming.

 In some regards, it’s one of L/n’s most mature breakup songs in her catalog, regardless of whoever it’s about. And if this is just a “from the vault” track, it makes one wonder what an albums-worth of these songs would sound like.

It is has not been uncommon to hear that our beloved idol Y/N has been attending the F1 Grand Prix's when she can. She has been open about her interest and love for the sport that had started since she was young and living in Australia, much thanks to her mother. For the past months, she has attended the Australia, Monaco and Barcelona Grand Prix. At the Monaco GP, her closest friends and group members of BLACKPINK Jennie and Lisa attended with her, Jisoo was unable to join them due to the flu. Her go-to team is Mclaren as she is often seen in their garage and actively chatting with driver Lando Norris.

Into this newfound friendship...or possibly more? The driver Lando Norris has been leaving friendly comments since her first attendance in awhile at the Australian GP but he has grown more confident and so has she. Just recently for the Barcelona GP, Y/N and Lando Norris were spotted hanging out outside the tracks with a small group of friends as seen in PHOTO TWO. The lucky fans that spotted and snapped a picture has commented that, "they both looked very friendly with each other [...] Lando kept looking at her with heart eyes almost [...] both of them left together while the others stayed".

These new speculations on their "friendship" had only gotten much more active after Lando Norris posted to his alternative instagram account based on his interest of photography and PHOTO THREE was posted in the photo dump of his race weekend in Barcelona. Fans of both Y/N's and F1 pointed out the hair and the similar hand and jacket in the photo--our dear Y/N. There are also speculations that this was NOT the same day as the hangout of friends, rather a different day...and perhaps a different kind of date 😉

Let's not forget the suspicious comments her closest friend Jennie has left on her instagram especially after the comment from Mclaren, "You have amazing taste"...to which Ms Jennie Kim replied in korean, "It goes both ways 😗". Fans believe Jennie might been insinuating that a certain driver (Norris) and Y/N have good taste...or should we say, interest within each other?

Though, so far, not much has been found if this is a beginning of the soft launch of their relationship or simply a flirtatious and playful friendship between the very two different yet similar people. Let's just look forward to Y/N's upcoming project and for the F1 fans, enjoy the week break!

About The Drama Of Driver’s License (Olivia Rodrigo + Sabrina Carpentar + Joshua Bassett)

The song ‘‘Drivers License’’ features some pretty pointed lyrics, which some fans believe are about Bassett and a certain blonde singer-actress is Sabrina Carpentar, and now the teens and tweens are in a tizzy. Olivia Rodrigo and Joshua Bassett  onscreen chemistry and an offscreen closeness that led to rumors about a relationship between them. 

Olivia Rodrigo wrote and sang in the series about Joshua Bassett’s character, Ricky. In the new track, “Drivers License,” Rodrigo laments the end of a relationship as she drives through the streets after getting her license (again, she is 17) and also mentions, “I guess you didn’t mean what you wrote in that song about me,” which fans are assuming is about Joshua Bassett, who released two singles, “Common Sense” and “Anyone Else,” last year. 

It’s also rumored that Joshua Bassett and Sabrina Carpenter started dating after Olivia Rodrigo and Joshua Bassett called it quits in 2020. While they also haven’t publicly affirmed this, the two have been seen together, recently where they re - enact a scene from The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl.

In “Drivers License,” Rodrigo refers to a “blonde girl” who’s “so much older than [her].” Sabrina Carpenter is in fact blonde and is four years older than Olivia Rodrigo. 

Olivia Rodrigo announced the release of “Drivers License” on January 4, and a mere hour later, Bassett announced the release of his upcoming single, titled “Lie Lie Lie,” which comes out on January 14. Followers were quick to call out the coincidence in the close posts, calling it “awkward.” Olivia Rodrigo is so happy that Taylor Swift replied to her post , “I say that’s my baby and I’m really proud” (quoting Swift’s own mother).

January 14: Joshua Bassett’s “Lie Lie Lie” has arrived. Go ahead and try, try, try not to enjoy some speculation about whom is kissing whom’s ass goodbye. 

January 15, 11 a.m.: In probably the last place he’d want to be following a new single and music-video release, Joshua Bassett shared on Instagram that he was in the hospital recovering from surgery. He described enduring the worst pain of his life, and without many details, he said that the doctor gave him the medal for being “the sickest patient in the hospital.” If “Lie Lie Lie” and  “Driver’s License” doesn’t add much to the Olivia-Joshua-Sabrina love-triangle drama, another potential song featuring Carpenter and Bassett might is called “We Both Know,” which is right now an unconfirmed, unreleased song by Joshua Bassett and Sabrina Carpenter. 

January 22:  Sabrina Carpenter has dropped a new surprise single, “Skin.” The song features some very pointed lyrics to Rodrigo’s “Drivers License” in this tender pop ballad. In the opening verse, she sings that maybe her and the subject (ahem, Rodrigo) could’ve been friends, telling herself “Maybe you didn’t mean it / Maybe ‘blonde’ was the only rhyme.” 

You may recall, in “Drivers License,” Olivia Rodrigo refers to a “blonde girl / Who always made [her] doubt.” Carpenter also sings “But you been tellin’ your side / So I’ll be telling mine,” completing the love-triangle narrative between Olivia Rodrigo, Sabrina Carpenter, and Joshua Bassett. With all of the news surrounding this drama and Olivia Rodrigo’s “Drivers License” — which has inevitably pulled Carpenter in the mix — she says, “You’re putting me in the spotlight / But I’ve been under it all my life.” 

In some of the most telling lyrics, Carpenter sings, “You can try / To get under my, under my, under my skin / While hе’s on mine,” possibly referring to the fact that she is now with Joshua Bassett and Oliva Rodrigo is not.  She also drops a little tease about driving with “Don’t drive yourself insane” and in the bridge she tells the subject, “I just hope that one day / We both can laugh about it.” 

January 22, 4:15 p.m.: Joshua Bassett showed support for his rumored girlfriend Sabrina Carpenter in his Instagram story that day, with an image of the album art captioned “been stuck in my head since I heard it!!! congratulations @sabrinacarpenter on ‘skin,’ the new label, & all that’s to come!” 

Fans of Olivia Rodrigo were quick to call out that it looks like Joshua Bassett has taken Carpenter’s side in the drama. 

January 25, 11:45 a.m.: Sabrina Carpenter wants us all to keep an open mind “lyrically.” In an Instagram post, the 21-year-old blonde explained that “Skin” isn’t a Rodrigo diss track: “I wasn’t bothered by a few lines in a (magnificent) song and wrote a diss track about it,” she captioned a selfie. “I was at a tipping point in my life for countless reasons. so i was inspired to do what i usually do to cope, write something that i wish i could have told myself in the past.” She adds that the song isn’t about a specific person or event but a combination of experiences from the past year. “I don’t want this to become an endless cycle so please don’t take this as an opportunity to send more hate anyone’s way,” she finished with a plea to fans. 

January 29: Whoever’s been lying to Joshua Bassett, here’s another song just for you. “Only a Matter of Time,” the second single from his upcoming EP, was released yesterday. Following the release of “Only a Matter of Time,” Bassett shared in an Instagram story, “I wrote this song in the summer of 2020 in a moment in time where social media was bringing a lot of darkness to my life. It was healing to put my phone down, turn off the noise and just write. There’s good that comes from social media, but it’s also become a place where people can say anything about anyone, no matter how false or damaging with no accountability.” In the ballad, Bassett sings about someone who has been spreading lies about him and that the truth will come out eventually. While he reflects on his hurt, he makes it clear that he’s not out for revenge, that’s in karma’s hands.

A cantora compartilhou uma imagem em seu Instagram e, na legenda, agradeceu todos que ouviram o single, especialmente aqueles que “abriram suas mentes” para o que estava tentando transmitir. Em seguida, ela menciona a letra de uma música, referindo-se a Drivers License. “Não me incomodei com alguns versos de uma (magnífica) canção e escrevi uma faixa dissimulada sobre ela. Eu estava em um ponto crítico na minha vida por inúmeras razões. Então, fui inspirada a fazer o que normalmente faço para enfrentar, escrevo algo que eu gostaria de ter dito a mim mesma no passado. Ramirez Tran is probably the O.G. Salon, which is responsible for bringing the "beach waves" that are now known on Instagram – refined by the owners Johnny Ramirez and Ahn Co Tran – onto the map. So we were pleasantly surprised that the stylists of the salon actually use some products that do not break the bank.

"We all use and swear by the Parlux pulverizers and Ibiza brushes." She also notes that product preparation is a key component to achieving the waves prevailing in the salon and faster purging. "We also love to prepare every customer with oil and detoxifying spray for a faster, supple hair dryer. We loved Kerastase Elixir Ultime Oil and Oribe Run Through Primer. [Um] To create waves, we use 1 1/4 inch iron, "says Fishman.

The quest to restore the same shiny bursts of "effortless" beach waves or voluminous Farrah Fawcett-inspired curls made from a stylist's best hair tools can be a blatant "problem" for some. Nevertheless, the fight is for most real. If you've ever tried to push back a much-needed hair wash, hoping to prevent a salon break-out, you know that such attempts often lead to a series of lifestyle discomforts. This usually includes completing the weekly boxing course to avoid sweat damage, or using an entire bottle of your expensive Holy Grail dry shampoo to bring your locks back to life.

Even with a well-stocked arsenal of products and endless tutorials on YouTube, it can be impossible to restore a salon-level finish if you are not a professional or are naturally blessed with crystal-clear hands (I'm jealous) on your own. While luxurious texture sprays, shiny oils, and intensive care masks play a vital role in a good day, heat-styling tools and even brushing are just as important.
