I always try to not be shy about the fact Pio does not pass as a man at all, and that he is in a situation where he cannot take the steps to do so (medically transitioning basically)— not just financially, but mentally too.

He hates his chest, his private parts and the fact they cause hin extreme dysphoria once a month from his period, his voice is audibly feminine, he even has very "soft feminine" features, he is often mistaken for a butch woman and misgendered a lot (he's also very anxious about correcting people, since he's afraid of how they'll react).

And I feel it's important from me to showcase these features, because they’re part of a realty many transmasc/guys/men like me go through.

The thing about Pio is that he has an extremely hard time believing he's a "real man". Almost everything in his life is an active reminder that society does not see him as a man, and he has internalised it. He is happy the people close to him (his father, Chris and his family) confirm they see him as a man, but he has a hard time genuinely believing they actually do, because he can't possibly say the same about himself.

He's on the verge of giving up sometimes, to detransition, to go back being [REDACTED] and be a woman again. He thinks it will make life easier. After all, it'll be easier to socialise, talk to people, and even find a partner. Pio is gay after all, but what gay man would love a "woman," right? Straight men must be his only option, right?

But it won't be easier, it will outright kill.

And this is why his relationship with Fellow is so crucial to him. For all his faults, the fox did one very important thing right in the relationship— love Pio for the man that he is.

Fellow didn't always have the right words, but he knew words weren't really gonna help such a dysphoric person like Pio. The constant and consistent love and support over time was what made Pio realise how genuine Fellow was with him.

Intimacy felt less uncomfortable, it actually became enjoyable. He could actually bare his features, even if a little. He actually grow to like his voice a little, even if he's fine with it changing. Everything just became a little easier when he was with Fellow, he could actually see himself as desirable, to an other queer man no less.

He began thinking that perhaps he is a man, regardless of everything. This reduction of his dysphoria was what made him more motivated to seek medical transition later one, as he finally could think to himself, "this isn't pointless." He realised nothing can stop him from being the man that he is.

Even after their falling out during their work in Playful Land, Pio still had this drive in him. He went back to his father and started working, slowly saving up to seek a way to get his hands on HRT. And although he has a long way to go, he is for once finally determined to do what he must do for his well being.

He kinda spiralled for a while because of the falling out. He even began relying on alcohol for a bit. But this new profound drive carried him every day and kept him alive.

So basically, as angry as he is with Fellow, he will always be grateful for all the genuine love and desire he was given. It, quite literally, saved his life.

So yeah ofc they make up in the end, what did you expect, to not give them a happy ending? Poser./j

kavetham different meeting au where theres a sort of fair for people who want to study in the akademiya to get to know each darshan, yknow those college fairs? where they talk to you about universities and courses? like that. and the kshahrewar and the haravatat booths are next to each other and kaveh and alhaitham are responsible for them and despite having just met they bicker with each other all. day. every future akademiya student that passes through one of their booths might as well have passed through both because they will not stop arguing about which darshan is better and which one the people talking to them should go to. its a very amusing experience to all involved except for kaveh and alhaitham themselves. and anyways. nuisances to lovers

I really like to headcanon Fíli as aroace, but let us do one for ace Fíli and one for allo Fíli.

Fíli being aroace:

He's completely blind for romance and doesn't notice at all. He's thinking "Wow, a new friend! How nice! :)", while the other person pulls out their whole bag of tricks and slowly despairs, because nothing works.

When he notices, it's either because the other person is painfully blunt or (and more likely) because Kíli pulls him aside and tells him.

And then? Awkwardness through the roof!

He's probably going to tell them that he's not interested (since he's ace and all) and avoids them like the plague afterwards.

Kíli, who is not as blind as his brother, spends a fair amount of time with shooing admirers away, so Fíli doesn't even get into this uncomfortable situation.

It's also painfully obvious to the whole family that Kíli's gotta be the one to keep the family line going (which he doesn't mind fortunately).

Fíli being allo:

His reaction depends entirely on the question, if something is at stake.

Casual flirt with somebody, he's not going to see again any time soon? Absolutely! He can be quite charming and is very good at giving compliments. He likes flirting, since it's fun.

Somebody flirting with him, who has genuinely feelings for him that he doesn't reciprocate? He's friendly and polite, but keeps his distance to not give them false hopes. Kíli also has to act as Dwarven shield, if he wants to or not.

And if a very special person flirts with him? Somebody, he has feelings for? Awkward! Words fail him. He keeps nodding and says "Oh?" and "I see", while slowly assuming the colour of a tomato. He also talks a lot about the weather, before fleeing at the first opportunity.

Kíli: "Are you... are you gonna do something about it? Like, ask them to court or something?"

Fíli: "I'd rather die. Alone, presumedly."

In the end he either needs a significant other, who takes the wheel, or he does it himself with lots and lots of preparation and probably by writing a very sweet letter or something similar.

random firewatch au detail that has basically no impact on the story unless you want to psychoanalyze fw!grian even further than i did as the author, but it's very intentional that i always refer to both of mumbo's parents but only grian's mom. did i give him daddy issues? i guess so, but not in a way where i really deeply examined the implications as meaningful to the story. it was just a detail i stuck with from the beginning as a way to keep fleshing out the story's background subtly. the idea behind grian's dual citizenship was always that he was born in america to an american dad and british mom, and that his mom moved back to the UK when he was very young since she wanted to be closer to her family. perhaps his dad didn't go with them? or perhaps his dad did, and then later they split and he went back to america? whatever the cause, grian never even mentions his dad in the story, and it wasn't because i intended him to be dead (because that would have come up in a story about grief) if you get me

The Burden of a Golden Soul

There are days when he aches with the rain and wails with the wind that he wonders what the point of it all is. He mourns with the earth in his kingdom, cries over its ruins, and curses himself for being alive to see the other side of the Calamity he failed to slay the first time when he knows there were so many people out there who died by its hands. People he could have saved if he had just been a little stronger, a little faster, a little more knowledgeable. Why is he the one who gets to live on past death? What gives him the right to live a life free from worry after the Calamity was defeated? His negligence was responsible for entirely too many casualties. His hands are weighed down by so much blood that, some days, it feels difficult to move them at all.

But then there are days when he stands atop a peak with cold air biting at his cheeks, staining them the color of Wildberries. Days where he’s deep in the Gerudo desert, his feet sinking with every step he takes, and he looks back and all he can see are his small footprints amongst a sea of undisturbed sand. Days when thunder crackles in the air around him, his hair dripping water into his eyes, and he can taste ozone on his tongue. It reminds him that life is still beautiful, and he can breathe in a little deeper through his lungs that day. Because life did not end with the Calamity. Why should his?
