Instinct lives to see another new page.

I know, I know, it’s been since April when the last page was out. I’ve been noticing Instinct has gained a bit of attention the last couple of days and I finally pushed myself to make a new page. And because I felt bad I left it at a pretty tense moment.

rafayel can't seem to leave you alone.

sometimes it's a bit too intense, you think; when he's pretending to be tired after going with you back to your apartment after a date just so you let him crash at your place for the night. you don't say anything as his arms wrap around your bare waist the next morning, pulling your sore body closer to his chest. his lips brush against the nape of your neck, then, with a raspy whisper that asks you to stay.

you don't answer for a moment, trying to come up with an argument that will be strong enough for rafayel to understand you have to get up. but the moment lasts for a moment too long to his liking.

a breath catches in the back of your throat when rafayel starts to press open-mouthed kisses on your shoulder and trailing his way up your neck.

memories of countless times he's tricked you into making you stay longer than you planned - longer than you should - in his arms, tangled in the bedsheets, with his body pressed so tightly against yours that you can't even tell anymore where he starts and you end.

you know rafayel uses the same old method on you again. you know he's coaxing you to bend right into his wishes, give in the way he wants you to - because he needs you. in his arms, with your lips moving against his and his hips pressing harder against yours - faster, deeper - in a way that makes your body arch into his.

rafayel always touches you like he wants to devour you.

like he can't get enough until his name is etched in the deepest parts of your soul. like he wants to melt all your rational thoughts away so all that remains is desire that matches his own hunger nothing can quell.

you know it all... and yet...

you're so, so weak when you feel his fingertips sliding over your skin. no matter how much you'd try to push rafayel away, he'd still find a way to make you shiver with the way he's tracing the curves of your bare body as if he wants to learn it by heart once again. and again, and again–

until all you'll be able to remember will be the sound of his name lingering forever on the tip of your tongue.

for me at least, theres always been a really stark divide in the 'child character is the main antagonist' sort of stories.

on one hand. theres stories that rely on the shock factor of a child being evil, because we're supposed to believe that kids arent capable of that sort of thing. i guess its supposed to be frightening but the novelty always wears off really quickly for me.

i think 'a child is the villain' always lands most successfully for me when a kid is given power beyond their years (either by adults around them or otherwise supernatural/societal forces) and then everyone is floored when they arent exactly responsible with that power. and sometimes theyre even selfish! not because that kid is evil, but because theyre a kid.. acting like a kid would in their situation.

it means that any sort of story that follows requires a protagonist to reason with someone who may not even understand the harm theyre doing, or worse - not have the life lived to understand why they should care in the first place. and also, i think watching what happens when u have an destructive force seeking comforts that any child deserves doing whatever they can to have those things is (to me) much more interesting than 'child who is fucked up and evil for no reason but being born that way actually'

whumping characters who are unused to pain is such an interesting thing. it barely takes anything to make them scream and sob, but if that’s the most they can take, how do they react when those limits are breezed right past? if it only takes a single slice to bring them to their knees, how do they react to a dozen? how does the pain of a sprained wrist hold up against a handful of shattered ribs? push those limits, see exactly what it takes to break a whumpee and then shove right past it with no regard.
