The party's resident walking disaster

Ren never wanted to be some long lost princess. Frankly, for all she cares, the simple life of living off the land, climbing trees and spending time with her various animal friends would be more than enough for her.

Her family's legacy demands an heir. Everyone believed the Alagondars all perished in the destruction of Neverwinter some forty years ago, their ghosts haunting the halls and insisting there will come an heir. Many are forced to believe the false narrative Lord Neverember put into place that it is him, but the ghosts remain displeased.

They know the truth. Princess Aurelia, the youngest daughter of Prince Branwell, was smuggled out as the destruction rained down, taken by one of the Neverwinter Nine that protected her great-grandfather. A young girl, she had been smuggled out into the woods to be with what remained of the Nine. There was danger involved with the destruction -- not just concerns of rebuilding the ruined city, but with a power vacuum that threatened to consume everything, families attempting coups to take the city back. Then came the arrival of the False King and they knew they had to bide their time wisely.

Aurelia fell in love with the son of her savior, a boy named Damon Farlong. He himself was a descendent of another important Neverwinter Nine knight, the famous Kalach-Cha, who had been a ranger trained by her adoptive father. It served for a powerful bloodline and union that blessed them first with their wild child daughter. They named her for one of the first knights of Neverwinter, who formed the basis for the Nine; on his tomb is enscribed "The only who remembers the promise left unfulfilled."

Ren remembers their mother as someone kind and graceful, who held fast to her faith that they could return home and rebuild Castle Never. She thought it charming her daughter always brought home wounded animals to take care of, and thought her resourcefulness and bravery would make her a fine queen, if she could just allow herself to be ladylike. Her father was always more stoic, a bit more firm to try and push her towards her studies. He wanted her to be the great queen he believed she would need to be. A skilled ranger and marksman, he sometimes indulged her habits, believing she needed a strong and steady aim. The other knights serving under the Nine were the ones she had wrapped around her pretty little finger and they secretly taught her how to curse, gamble and do the fun activities-- can't have too straight laced of a princess, after all. Even if it did piss off Damon.

Ren was gifted her younger sister, Princess Melia, when she was 5 and it had been a joyous time in their family. She took a shine to her baby sister, wanting to show her everything in the world and they became partners in crime. When she was 11, they were gifted with another sibling, a bouncing baby boy named Brann.

At the age of 15, the family went out on an outing. They were trying to travel out to Baldurs Gate to meet with some noble families to see if they could try and build up to regain control. There had been several attempts to take out Lord Neverember and none succesdful; they had to vie for the right moment.

Unfortunately, their party was attacked by goblin raiders. Several people lost their lives in that skirmish, including her mother. Brann had tried to run off and was severely injured, almost dying himself, but found himself losing the ability to speak. Melia was destroyed emotionally from the attack, along with dealing with her own physical injuries.

Ren came out with scars, but had put up the best fight that she could. They were found by the druids and their leader, Halsin, allowed them time to heal. They took to caring for their siblings while their father fell into a catatonic depression, falling to drink to suppress his broken heart.

She developed a close bond to the head druid, and he took to venturing past the Grove with her to teach her some of what he knew. He offered counsel in her time of stress and encouraged her to keep steadfast in her goals -- she would make a fine young woman, no matter the path she chose.

They would eventually go back to their own encampment and several fights would break out between Ren and their father and they were forced to take on more leadership than she was ready for.

It became too much for her, as the years passed. Halsin could only do so much in their corresponding letters to help her. Between the extra training and schooling, the constant looming pressure to secure their forces to take back Neverwinter and the fights, she was exhausted.

It all came to a head when her father announced he had found suitors for her and Melia and they would need to travel to perform the weddings. They would make for the "powerful alliances" needed for when they came back to Neverwinter. Melia, while nervous, always took their responsibilities more seriously and agreed, ready to meet her suitor.

Ren had enough.

She packed a bag, plotted her course and took off, ready to migrate between different forests for the rest of her days or make it back to the Grove to seek Halsin's protection. No more would she have to be Princess Galavren, the long lost heir to the Alagondar Dynasty, the one foretold to take back the once grand city, she could just be Ren Farlong, a lone Ranger that loved a good brawl.

Her hopes of completely hiding forever became a bit dashed when the nautiloid came. Her entire life was changed forever from the tadpole -- and all she can do is hope to keep her past hidden from her companions, to just be normal. Or, well, as normal as you can be when you're fighting not to turn into a mind flayer.
