A new species of African legless skink, genus Acontias Cuvier, 1816 “1817” (Squamata: Scincidae) from Serra da Neve inselberg, south-western Angola
Mariana P. Marquesa, Diogo Parrinha, Arthur Tiutenko, et al.
ABSTRACT
During a recent survey of the Serra da Neve inselberg in south-western Angola, a population of legless skinks of the genus Acontias was found. Only three species of this genus have been recorded for the country so far – A. occidentalis, A. kgalagadi and A. jappi. Using an integrative approach and combining molecular and morphological data we found that the Serra da Neve population represents a new species, closely related to species such as A. percivali and some members of the A. occidentalis species complex. In this paper, we describe this population as a new species, Acontias mukwando sp. nov. and provide brief comments on its conservation and biogeography.

The mini waterfalls of Gunung Lambak
Gunung Lambak, an inselberg with an elevation of 510m, is the house mountain of Kluang town in Johor, Malaysia. It is considered to be a good mountain trekking location for beginners and with its location being close to Singapore, it is also often popular not just with the locals, but with day trippers from neighbouring Singapore as well. There are also mini waterfalls along the various paths in Gunung Lambak. These mini waterfalls often help to give a respite from the swelling heat and humidity of the local tropical weather in the Kluang area.

5. COSTUME - How much research have you done for your WIP?
14. EARTH - What inspires you most?

23. GLUTTONY - How many notebooks do you have?

32. METAL - Can you write fight scenes?
37. PLANTS - What is your favourite thing about the world of your WIP? (and why is it the Auras in Wildblood ;D)
45. STRENGTH - What kind of scene are you best at?
MASSIVE QUESTION DUMP! I would apologise... but I'm not sorry! ;p
Thanks for the ask! No need to apologize-- I like to do it too haha.
5. COSTUME - How much research have you done for your WIP?
I feel like I have a hard time quantifying how much I've researched for this WIP (Wildblood) bc it's always like. No research followed by very specific deep-dive research. So I didn't research much for the world or the characters, but stuff like weaponry, the relative abilities of different animals, and inselbergs.
14. EARTH - What inspires you most?
In general being out in nature is most inspiring to me. Standing on the beach or on a high mountain.... *chef's kiss*
15. ENERGY - What song inspires you most?
Hnnnngh this is such a hard question bc it changes so much but in general the soundtrack for Demon Slayer (<-weeb) and any songs by The Hu inspire me when I write.
23. GLUTTONY - How many notebooks do you have?
I have..... six on the shelf right now. I do most of my writing on my laptop now, but I have whole bundles of them stashed away somewhere haha.
27. ICE - Are you cruel to your characters?
NOT unless they deserve it. Or for interesting character development. Or plot reasons. Or.......
30. LOVE - What is your best writing advice?
Honestly something that I came to learn writing Wildblood is you really should write what you enjoy. Wildblood started out so self-indulgent and tropey and it turned into something that I really love and am proud of writing.
32. METAL - Can you write fight scenes?
I like to think I can haha. I typically don't write in specific fighting moves, but I try to capture the vibes pretty well.
37. PLANTS - What is your favourite thing about the world of your WIP? (and why is it the Auras in Wildblood ;D)
IT IS AURAS. Specifically wildblood auras. I love crafting the character designs, the different marks they have, the different ways the powers manifest, how different societies in my world react to them, etc etc. If I could write more wildbloods into it I would.
45. STRENGTH - What kind of scene are you best at?
Idk if this counts as a "scene" but I think I do well with character introductions, with the descriptions/dialogue/whatever that goes with them. They're one of my favorite parts to write, too.

Day 7
Want to know what I've been researching today? Rocks. Specifically, odd rocks that stand out from the rest of their locale. Glacial Erratics, Inselbergs, Volcanic protrusions, you get the idea.
Want to see some of the awesome bits and pieces I've found (in no particular order)?
This is a vertical map of the deepest cave system currently known:
Veryovkina Cave or ვერიოვკინის მღვიმე in Georgia, at 2,212 metres deep.

Next:
Hårteigen mountain in Norway, a good example of an Inselberg formation.

And:
The Colossal Statue of Shapur I, second shah of the Sassanid Empire, carved from a stalagmite over 1400 years ago (exact dates are up for heavy debate). Located in southern Iran near the ruins of Bishapur.

An inselberg or monadnock (/məˈnædnɒk/) is an isolated rock hill, knob, ridge, or small mountain that rises abruptly from a gently sloping or virtually level surrounding plain. In Southern Africa a similar formation of granite is known as a koppie, an Afrikaans word ("little head") from the Dutch diminutive word kopje.[1] If the inselberg is dome-shaped and formed from granite or gneiss, it can also be called a bornhardt, though not all bornhardts are inselbergs.
They really knocked it out of the park with these words
