A different Borderlands x Dragon Age AU than the other one I did, this time based more on DA: Inquisition! Now including classes + specializations for each character!

Rhys is the Inquisitor, but still a Tevinter Mage like in my last AU, bc I really like that idea. He’s totally practiced blood magic before. Everyone is Ferelden + Orlais is giving him shit for being Tevene; he just wants to close the Breach and go home.

Fiona and Sasha are City Elves from Kirkwall, who ran away after the turmoil caused by the Mage Rebellion, and made their way to Haven to join the Inquisition. They end up joining the Inquisitor’s Inner Circle uwu

Vaughn is a traveling mercenary. TBH, I didn’t know which group to put him in, but I imagine he’d traveled to the Tevinter Imperium at some point for a job and met and befriended Rhys while there. They keep in contact via letters, and when Rhys writes to him about the Inquisition, he drops everything and runs off to join his friend.

Angel and Jack have relatively the same roles they did in the last iteration of this AU; Angel is an apostate mage, raised by her ex-Templar father, Jack, who left the Order when her magic made itself apparent. He joined the Grey Wardens to avoid being punished for leaving the Templars. Aaaand in this version, Jack is the Hero of Ferelden, who stopped the Fifth Blight. He joins the Inquisition at Angel’s behest and sort of ends up their military commander. And Rhys happens to be quite a big admirer of his...

96. What’s their sense of humour like? (Dad jokes, morbid humour, basic knock-knock jokes, stand up comedy, etc)

Rhys has an extremely dry sense of humor with a lot plenty of irony and deadpanning. He has a keen appreciation for absurdity and can be a bit morbid. Modern AU Rhys would be a devotee of Monty Python and similar BBC type comedies. (cue: No one expects...) On the American side of the pond, The Good Place would make him very happy.

I’m not sure how to categorize Adrian’s sense of humor, other than to say he’d appreciate The Daily Show and Stephen Colbert, and the “what fresh hell is this?” attitude thereof.

97. What do they keep in their bag?

Rhys has writing things, sketch book and chalk pastels, various things for collecting samples of plants. Things to fidget with. You know, the basics for a nerdy botanist.

At this point, Adrian is just this side of being a prepper. Paracord, knives, first aid stuffs, something long-lasting and halfway edible, stuff to start a fire. Also a generously sized flask of high proof alcohol and a deck of cards.

98. How competitive are they?

They’re both semi-competitive. Like, in a playful way, with games (Adrian more than Rhys). When it comes to actually important things (or in Rhys’s case with anything he just doesn’t care about), it’s a matter of getting the job done.

99. What would they wear to a formal event? Describe their outfit!

Oh.... Rhys hates formal events and formal clothes, and he can more easily tell you what he is not wearing. No high necklines. Not satin or velvet. He is wearing something will very deep colors. Think sapphire blues and burgundies.

Adrian also doesn’t care for formal events, but he’ll play along. Personally, I think he’d look quite dashing in Regency-era fashion. Flashy though, because if you’re going to go, go all out.

100. If you, the creator, met them, would you two get along?

Yes, I think I would get along with both of them. Maybe Rhys a little more than Adrian.

I’m Azul! If I were green, I would die. I’m going on 22, I started roleplaying in 2009-10. So that’s roughly eleven years’ worth of playing? Around the last hours of Quizilla was when I got started. I am a huge Transformers fan; go see the list there’s a lot! Second that, I’m a good ol’ Star Wars and comic fan I can go on forever talking about them. I’m not above looking into deeper meanings in horror movies either.  

I pretty much have no rules when it comes to the actual roleplaying. Go nuts on the plots, I’m easy going on them. I will let you know if I am not comfortable or unable to do anything. 

Communication is my golden rule, but I do have troubles reading between the lines so please speak plainly. I only ask to let me know when you are uncomfortable if I go too far. I also ask to not force me into playing with you and respect my opinion. Both had been broken and I blocked both fools.

My style is I double or nothing. You play your character and my character love interest; I will do the same for you. I mainly go for Canon/OC because who doesn’t want to indulge a little bit? This also means I don’t care if you wanna do self inserts. It’ll be fun, so why not? Doing AU stuff is great too! I will always be interested in different variations of fandoms.

5. What is an aspect of your muse’s canon material or canonexistence that you never had the opportunity to explore but really want to?

For Ameridan  —  literally anything that takes place in the Divine Age.   It’s probably won’t happen because there just isn’t a lot of canon material to go on so whoever I was writing it with would either have to go with my headcanons or we’d have to create everything together,  but that means the majority of Ameridan’s life I don’t get to write and I’m :( about it.   Also related,  I’d have loved to write with Telana,  Orinna,  Haron and Drakon,  or for them to be alive so other characters can experience them too because I love them,  and to write Ameridan interacting with Little Dread,  but it’s unlikely to happen in threads.   I should write drabbles but I’m bad at that lol.

I haven’t written Adrian enough that I feel like there’s any part of her life that’s been neglected,  but I’d like to write more about her during the active rebellion  (  I have one thread going on with @dryadalismagicae that I really love though!  )  and once I figure out some hcs about what she does after being brought to the Inquisition,  maybe that.   I’d also be interested in writing her while in the White Spire,  although it’d probably be an AU because it’s vital to her character that’s she’s not close with anyone but Rhys so that might limit things otherwise.

13. What canon character do you really wish your muse couldinteract more with?

The Avvar!   I feel like the ones in stone-bear hold would be at least a little intrigued that someone’s been frozen in time just a short walk from their hold the entire time they’ve lived there and it would just.. be really fun to let them meet.   And also Kenric and scout Harding,  because they were as vital to finding him as the Inquisitor and I mean….Kenric.   Let them talk.

For Adrian,  I don’t have anyone specific?   Again maybe because I haven’t written her that much so it’s not obvious what’s ‘lacking’.

Well, the only people who’ve gotten close enough to break Maxwell’s heart were his parents.Their complete rejection and abandonment left a deep scar on him.

💕 : Someone my loves

Platonically: He loves Josephine dearly. She was always kind and supportive of him from the very beginning of the Inquisition. She also taught him several life skills that he was lacking and helped him deal with his parents trying to manipulate him as the Inquisitor. He considers her family and one of his closest friends.

Romanitcally: In game he loves Dorian. Out of the game depending on the AU, he loves @mlp-micoo‘s Rhys Lavellan, @writingfromdaughterofathena‘s Hadiden Lavellan, or @hobbithase‘s Adahl Lavellan and Ascan Adaar. These men are not only his friends, confidants, but also the men he has given his heart to.

👻: Someone my muse considers a best friend

Varric is one of Maxwell’s best friends and was his friend from nearly the moment they met. They were nearly as close as Varric was with my Garrett Hawke. After the Inquisition ends they hang out together for a while in Kirkwall.

👪 : Someone in my muse’s family

By Blood: Bann Vincent Trevelyan and Marcus Trevelyan( who is also an Inquisitor of mine) are Maxwell’s older brothers. He reunites with them after Corypheus is defeated.

By Bond: Maxwell considers most of the Inner Circle his family, but I’d have to say Sera and Cole. Sera is like a sister to Maxwell and Cole a younger brother.

👌 : Someone my muse has met once, but will never forget

Divine Justinia, they only met once that fateful day at the Conclave but her death made an impact on him for a far different reason than everyone else. He remembers her reaching out to him in the Fade and how she died making sure he got through the portal first.

👰: Someone my muse would consider marrying

Whoever Maxwell’s lover is (Dorian, Rhys, Ascan, Adahl, or Hadiden), he plans on marrying them. He doesn’t feel a need exactly, but since the option is now finally open for mages to get married, he really wants to. Plus he gets a kick out of the idea of rubbing his love and happiness into bigoted andrastians’ faces. He’s petty like that. >:3c

Star Wars x Rhack AU

In which Rhys is betrayed during the Purge, and sold out to the Empire as just a young Padawan. Through torture and indoctrination, during which he loses his arm and eye and is granted cybernetic replacements, he becomes an Inquisitor, hunting down the remnants of the Jedi Order and other Force-sensitive beings throughout the galaxy. One day, he receives a mission to retrieve a target observed using the Force - he must either bring her in for conditioning, or to eliminate her entirely.

Only, when Rhys finds the target, he finds she’s just a child. He’s never hunted a child before. Much less one with an extremely overprotective father who tries fighting Rhys one-on-one so his daughter can escape.

Rhys is unable to bring himself to capture the girl, Angel, and instead betrays the Empire to help her and her father get away. Angel insists that he come with them - after all, she’ll need a mentor. And he can’t be so bad if he was willing to save them, right?

Rhys and Jack are both unsure of the arrangement, with Jack constantly suspicious of the former Inquisitor, and Rhys finding Jack overbearing. At least he and Angel bond quickly, as Angel is a natural with the Force and takes to the training well. It would be great, if the Empire didn’t keep ambushing them at every planet they stop at.

Eventually Rhys discovers that the Empire is tracking them via his cybernetics - though at first he leaves Angel and Jack to protect them, circumstances force him to rip out his cybernetics, leaving him bleeding out on an unknown world. Thankfully, Jack and Angel find him before he dies of the blood loss and help him build replacement tech. 

And, Jack starts seeing the former Inquisitor in a new light...

Borderlands x Dragon Age AU, ft. The Winter Palace

Rhys said hell no to those ugly red uniforms and so everybody just showed up in their finest outfits. And Rhys is a Fancy Tevinter Bitch™ so of course he shows everybody up.

As for Jack, I went with the same type of fur-collar-coat thing we see Alistair wear as king, since that seems to be the default Ferelden style lol. He was not expecting the Inquisitor to show up looking as fine as he does. Angel did, and she’s enjoying watching her father be flustered for once in his life.

A dance at the Winter Palace, from my Borderlands x Dragon Age AU

After stopping an assassination attempt, the Inquisitor and his Commander share a private moment on a secluded balcony… and a little bonus of the Commander’s daughter totally shipping it.

I really should draw more of the romance aspect of this AU because like. Ugh. Rhys being from Tevinter means that same-sex relationships are kind of a taboo thing for him (or at the very least, something he’s not supposed to flaunt in public), and Jack being a Grey Warden means he’s got limited time to spend with his loved ones until his Calling. 

But then they meet each other and suddenly those boundaries don’t matter anymore. Rhys, who before only ever wanted a seat in the Magisterium, now doesn’t care about the scandal it could cause, he wants to be with Jack. And Jack, who had already been searching for a way to stop the Calling, now has extra motivation to live. 

Toss in the Breach and the fact that it’s almost the end of the world, and it’s a very dramatic situation all-around haha

Messy sketches, but still, more Borderlands x Dragon Age AU!

I mentioned more details about the AU in this post but I’ll repeat some stuff I guess lol

So yeah. Yvette is the Josephine in this AU, meaning she handles all diplomatic missions for the Inquisition. I imagine she met Rhys while she was acting as an Ambassador to the Tevinter Imperium at some point, and like with Vaughn, she keeps in contact with him via letters and joins the Inquisition at his request.

Athena is the Cassandra. She was in the Templars at the same time as Jack, and so she doesn’t exactly like the fact that he “abandoned” the Order (after she meets Angel, though, she understands). She later starts the Inquisition because literally nobody else is getting off their ass to do anything. She’s not sure about having two Elf thieves so close to the Inquisitor (Fiona + Sasha), but she eventually grows rather fond of them.

Maya is, of course, Leliana. She fought alongside Jack during the Fifth Blight and is the person who reaches out to him first to see if he’ll join the Inquisition. She’s definitely the adviser who’s nicest to Rhys at first, though that’s mostly because she feels sorry for him.

Loader-Bot (called “Elbie” in this AU) and Gortys are Mabari hounds! They were abandoned by an Orlesian noble after Elbie got too big, and Gortys refused to leave his side. They’re found by the Inquisition later and bond with Rhys and Fiona respectively. Though Fiona doesn’t really like taking Gortys into battle, small as she is. (Also: Jack also had a Mabari hound, named Warrior, who unfortunately passed away before the Inquisition was formed. He’s pretty fond of Elbie, though.)

And finally, August is a Qunari. So is his mom, but in this AU, they’re not mother-and-son, but rather, superior-and-subordinate. August is essentially Iron Bull, and is sent to the Inquisition to spy on them for the Qun. Though he does eventually leave the Qun, because he’s made much better friends in the Inquisition (coughSashacough).

Notes on Borderlands x Dragon Age AU

Hey! So since so many people seemed interested in this au, I thought I’d share a few more of my ideas for it. Bear in mind, this isn’t meant to be a strict adherence to the Dragon Age plotline, and some characters share multiple inspirations.

Roland is basically Alistair. A veteran Grey Warden by the time Jack joins the Order, he accompanies Jack on his quest to end the Fifth Blight. As I was plotting this all out, they sort of ended up being friends?? Mostly bc this AU version of Jack isn’t a massive asshole lmao. Anyway, Roland reluctantly becomes King of Ferelden after the Blight and is well-loved by the people.

Lilith is the Morrigan stand-in, except she’s also a Dalish Elf who was exiled for practicing blood magic. Morrigan and Alistair’s hostile relationship from the games is replicated by Lilith and Jack in this AU. When she brings up the Dark Ritual, she performs it with Roland - she would have flat-out refused to with Jack. 

I’m thinking the Kieran stand-in in this AU might be either Tiny Tina or Gaige? I’m not sure tbh

Tassiter is the Loghain stand-in. should be self-explanatory lol. Jack totally beheads him.

Vallory and August are both Qunari. IDK I just think they’d look cool as Qunari lol. Maybe Vallory is August’s superior in the Ben-Hassrath (the Viddasala), and August is a spy (Hissrad). And then August kinda follows Iron Bull’s good storyline and leaves the Qun for the Inquisition, becoming Tal-Vashoth. 

Brick is also Qunari, but he’s been Tal-Vashoth for a while.

Mordecai is an Antivan Crow. Again, I just thought it’d be cool

Vasquez is a Tevinter magister who tries to pull one over on Rhys, only to find out Rhys has been named Inquisitor. He eventually joins the Venatori and opposes the Inquisition at every turn.

Nisha is a cross between Hawke and Isabela. A wandering pirate who stopped in Kirkwall juuuust long enough to become Champion, at which point she promptly bounced and went back to adventuring. She slept with the Hero of Ferelden at some point during the Blight, and she’s not shy about talking about it.

I spent a long time thinking about Tim in this AU and I’m kinda split. On one hand, he could be Jack’s brother who joined the Grey Wardens before him and convinced him to join for Angel’s sake (he’d be the stand-in for Stroud in this case) 

OR he’s a spirit from the Fade, who can manipulate what he looks like to other people. For whatever reason, he chooses to look like Jack. Idk. Let’s just say Jack finds it flattering. In this case, he’d be the Cole stand-in. 

Aurelia would essentially be Vivienne, aka a First Enchanter in the Circle of Magi, but she doesn’t really give a shit about the whole ‘mage equality’ thing and doesn’t really follow the rules of the Circle, either. As long as she can further her own agenda and gain more powerful magic, she’s good.

Sir Hammerlock is the Dorian stand-in. He’s a mage, but was often overshadowed by his older sister. He’s a scholar on all manner of magical beasts, but he favors dragons in particular. 

Loader-Bot and Gortys are Mabari hounds, bonded to Rhys and Fiona respectively. Gortys is just a pup when they first find her, being protected by the much bigger and more intimidating ‘Elbie’. 

Aaaand finally (for now), Tyreen and Troy are the Corypheus stand-ins. As in, they’re ancient mages who became corrupted in their quests to become gods, and are causing shit that leads to the creation of the Inquisition.
