Ok so ahead of Veilgaurd I want to establish where my cannon dragon age characters are for fun.
Centari Mahariel-Arani found the cure for the calling (I refuse to believe she's dead) and she and Zevran have been spending the past few years traveling and making up for lost time with their daughters who were living with Alistair. The oldest, Falcon, is twenty three and her sister Rosa is twenty one.
Evadora Hawke and Merrill Hawke continue to help with both the rebuilding of Kirkwall and the Sabrae clan. They do research and missions for anyone who has need of them. They also breed and train Mabaris
Former Inquisitor Keg Addar and her wife Sera Addar have, on the surface, been living a quiet life pursuing personal projects and raising their adopted daughter Mari who is now thirteen. In secret, however, they have been working with Verric, Hawke, and other former inquisition members to hunt down Solas and the Venetori.

it’s so interesting that in inquisition both a mage!lavellan and mage!addar have the same/basically the same backstories as their non-mage counterparts. but Trevelyan and mage!Trevelyan have lived two very obviously different lives like. one is a rich noble who has faced little to no difficulty and the other is (potentially) ostracized from the same family and apart of an oppressed group of people. dont get me wrong I love all of the origins it’s just wild that for all of the other races they have the same background and then there’s the trevelyans. maybe that’s because (if I remember correctly) Trevelyan was the default Inquisitor when they were first making the game and they fleshed out that race but not the others?
I’d have liked to have seen a city elf, or commoner human, or a dwarf from orzamar. just add a bit of spice.
It's probably because Trevelyan was originally the only option, yeah. But also to be fair Adaar and Lavellan's backstories are such that mages and non-mages wouldn't have particularly different backstories. Mercenary bands would logically want to have a couple apostates around (see the opening of DA2, where Hawke/Bethany's magic is seen as a massive asset for whichever group helps get them into the city), and obviously the Dalish love and respect their mages (bullshit retcons aside). The setup of Trevelyan as part of a noble family necessitates mage and non-mage Trevelyan having different backgrounds, because that absolutely would change things in a way it wouldn't for Lavellan and Adaar.
That said, I wish there was more dialogue decided by class? Mage Adaar would have a very different response to the mage rebellion and being at the Conclave than non-mage Adaar, and mage Lavellan is a priest-in-training and so should absolutely have something to say about the whole "We're going to tell the world you're Andraste's chosen and you're not allowed to argue" thing. Even if their basic background is identical, whether or not they have magic would change their perspective! Also, I would've loved just a cosmetic change where Adaar and Lavellan's staffs look less obviously like staffs because they're both apostates and so would not carry around what is blatantly a magic staff. I guess that can be justified with them only having access to what they can get the Inquisition to make, but still. It would also just be fun to see some staffs that were clearly designed with not making the person carrying them look like a mage in mind, because it really doesn't make sense that all these apostates are just openly carrying mage staffs and no one notices or cares.

-Hello, I literally never post anything but I’ve been writing more and I wrote this very self-indulgent piece with Dorian and my Inquisitor. I will probably go back and edit this at some point but I like where it’s at right now and I wanted to share because I love my Inquisitor and her friendship with Dorian. Once I actually complete a full character sheet for her I’ll post it but some basic info, her name is Imekari Addar, she is 16, and trying her best. (I would very much like to yell about my Inquisitor, so if anyone else wants to too.... you should hmu and we can yell about our Inquisitors together.)
Imekari finally sits down at the table, she has been pacing inside the gazebo for the past twenty minutes. She’s an hour early for her weekly game of chess with Dorian. Her mind races trying to plan what she’s going to tell him.
“Looking rather lost in thought there my dear. Everything alright?” Dorian asks as he walks up the steps of the gazebo. The words startle her out of her thoughts.
“Yeah, I’m fine. Let’s play.” She forces a smile and gestures for him to sit in the seat across from her.
“Oh so we’re being a secretive teenager today, is it? Alright then, I won’t pry.” He pulls out the chair and sits as Imekari chuckles a little while setting up the board.
The game goes much faster than their usual games do. “And that would be my win. We can play again if you would like?”
“Yes, let’s”
“I may be quite the gossip, but for our dear Inquisitor I can hold onto whatever deep dark secret is stewing away in that head of yours. Whatever it is, is causing you to play worse than Cullen.”
“It’s nothing Dorian, let’s just play.”
Dorian gasps, thinking he knows that cause of the Inquisitor’s odd behavior. “Is it a crush?! Has our young leader fallen head over heels for a young beau? Come on, who is he?”
Panic surges in Imekari’s chest, she quickly stands from the table. “Actually, I’m not feeling too well. I’m going to go… lie down. I-I’ll see you tomorrow.”
Before he can even start to apologize for teasing, she’s already rushing out of the garden. Dorian stands puzzled, trying to understand what could be upsetting the Inquisitor so much.
“Wrong, wrong, I love wrong. I AM wrong. Should I tell him? Of course I shouldn’t. What if he’ll hate me now? What if the Maker hates me now? They’ll kick me out if they know. I have to hide it down and never say anything, maybe it will go away.”
It’s like he’s thrown back in time, back in his room in Minrathous a scared young man again. Turning to find the source of the voice, Dorian finds Cole standing behind the seat Imekari had just been in. “Cole, I understand that you want to help, but that is an old hurt that I don’t need to be poked at, thank you very much.”
“No, not your hurt. Hers.”
Dorian finally understands. “Cole, why don’t you let me handle this okay?”
“But I can help.”
“I’m sure you can Cole, but I believe it might be better if I were to talk to her about it. Alright?” When he gets a nod from Cole, he heads to the Main Hall and then up the stairs to Imekari’s private quarters.
At the final door, he knocks, but there is no answer so he lets himself in. She is nowhere to be found and he thinks maybe she’s hiding somewhere else. Then he hears sniffling from the balcony. Sitting with her head pressed against the stone railing and legs dangling over the edge, sits the leader of the Inquisition, the Herald of Andraste, an over 6-foot qunari, looking so small, so scared. His heart breaks for her.
“So, clearly things aren’t fine. Full disclosure, Cole popped up the moment you ran off trying to help so I heard some of it.” He pauses, seeing if she may say something. “I was able to convince him that his helping might not be the best for this situation. Riddles never straightened anything out.” He chuckles then clears his throat realizing now may not be the best time for quips. He’s never done this before, never been a confidant, an advisor. “Imekari, if you want to talk…” The offer hangs in the air but goes unanswered. Finally, he sighs and starts to turn away, “I will not force you. But you know where I’ll be if you ever do want to.”
“When did you know?” her voice is quiet and hoarse.
“Pardon?”
She clears her throat and turns to look Dorian in the eyes. “When did you know that you liked men?”
Dorian makes his way next to the balcony and settles down beside her, looking out over the mountains as he talks, “Hmm, well, I think part of me always knew, I believe I was 12 when I started to really question. But when I knew? I was 15, there was a young man at the Circle I attended, Matthaeus was his name, I was head over heels after our first class together. Didn’t work out, of course, first loves rarely do. But after that, I knew.” He turns and meets her eyes, and his heart breaks. Seeing the same fear he had at that age reflected back at him; on the face of a young woman that’s pushed her way into a special part of his heart no less.
“Imekari, you do not have to talk about it if you do not want to, but I will always be here for you. There’s nothing you could do or be that could possibly make me care less about you. Unless you start dressing in as much plaid weave as Sera, I may have to disown you at that point.” That earns him a laugh that sets his heart at ease.
Imekari shuts her eyes and takes a deep breath, “I like girls. I like them in the way I’m supposed to like boys.”
“You’re not supposed to anything. You just like girls, and that is perfectly alright. There’s nothing wrong, you just do.”
A noise sounds in Imekari’s throat and she’s unable to stop herself from the tears that flood down her face. Dorian is quick to wrap her in his arms, letting her sob into his shoulder. They sit there and as she cries out every ounce of fear that filled her, he rubs calming circles on her back and he can’t quite help a few tears of his own. It takes a few minutes but eventually she’s left with only quiet sniffles.
“Feeling better now?”
“Yes, much better. Sorry for the waterworks.”
“No need to apologize, just don’t go around telling everyone how sappy I was, reputations you know.”
Imekari chuckles, “I promise. Thank you, Dorian.”
“You’re very welcome my dear. Now, enough blubbering, I must ask again, is there a young lady here in Skyhold that has sent our Inquisitor’s heart aflutter?”
“Well, umm, I…” Imekari stumbles for words as she very quickly turns red.
“Ah-hah, I knew it! You must tell me everything.” He stands and drags her to the couch.

This reminds me of my sister’s self-imposed “Let’s jump off the highest point of the foyer on to Solas’ table, and then go climb and stand on that owl statue in the main hall” mini game my sister and i play in this game...
okay i know there’re a lot of 'no fall damage in skyhold’ jokes already but after landing on or near so many good inquisition soldiers from great heights i just had to
those poor, long-suffering inquisition personnel
