In Japan they don’t say dessert, they say ‘betsu bara’ which translates to second stomach and I think that’s pretty accurate.

What's your first language?
My mother language is Vietnamese and my native language is German, so I grew up bilingual. :)

Anghel: In Tagalog we don't say "study hard", we say "magsunog ng kilay", which means "burn eyebrows".
Nageki: I think setting your eyebrows on fire isn't going to end well.

i was recently asked by the lovely @confissoesdoocio who my favourite studyblrs + langblrs were! there are so many blogs that i love, so i thought that i would make a public list for others to see too!
most of these are studyblrs, but i’m on a massive hunt for langblrs (especially french ones) so if anyone has any recommendations or is a langblr please let me know/drop me a follow and i’ll check you out! c:
i really hope that this helps! even though it isn’t the biggest of lists, and i’m sure i’ll have missed some, but these are loads of great blogs!
@studyblr, @studydiaryofamedstudent, @studylustre, @studynostalgic, @alpinestudies, @emmastudies, @inlanguagewedontsay (a nice mix of phrases from different languages, rather than a studyblr), @aestudier, @univursity, @sprouht-studies, @jackalopiel

Hello studyblr community! We are Floria, Louise and Maria, three girls from the Netherlands who have decided to create a studyblr! We’ve followed this community for a while now and it constantly keeps us motivated and inspired. We’d like to give back to this community by helping others reach their goals!
Here’s some stuff about us:
Floria🌸
Hi I’m Floria! I’m 16 years old and I’m turning 17 in march. In my free time I like to make music. I’ve been playing the violin for 11 years now and I’m learning to play the guitar. I also do ballet and contemporary/lyrical dance. And last but not least, I love to sail in the summer and to ice skate in the winter.
The subjects I take at school are Dutch, English, Latin, ancient Greek, Spanish, math, physics, chemistry and biology. After high school I want to go to university but I’m not sure what I want to study, right now I’m doubting between College of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Linguistics.
My personality type is INFJ-T and I’m a Hufflepuf :).
I started Bullet Journaling at the beginning of 2018 and I absolutely love it!
Louise🌺
I’m 15 years old but I’m turning 16 soon!!
Proud gryffindor  💓💛
I have an entfp-t personality :)
I take physics, chemistry, calc/math (the American school system is hard), biology, Dutch, English, French, Spanish and a project based class!
I play the guitar really badly but I plan to improve this year!
My personal goal this year is to finish the Duolingo Mandarin language tree😰😰

Maria🌼
Hi! I’m Maria and I’m 16 years old. The subjects I’m taking right now at school are biology, chemistry, math, Dutch, English, ancient Greek, music and that project based class! After highschool I want to study Midwifery Science. I think it’s very rewarding work and a good way to help people.
Besides all the homework and study hours, I love to make music. That includes playing the violin, guitar and piano. I’m in a musical-theater company as well! Every year we perform a musical in a theater in the town where I live.
I’m a Ravenclaw and my personality type is INFJ-T!
Here are some studyblrs that inspire us!

Pretty sure you already got this ask but, what made you start this blog?
Actually I created this blog because of Leonardo DiCaprio winning his (long overdue) Oscar, no joke ! I thought these “In [language] we don’t say” were very witty and funny, so I made this blog surrounding them. :)

In German we don't say "killing time", we say "Zeit totschlagen " which literally means "beating the time up to death" and I think that's beautiful

Number 1 please?
Favorite artist ?
I don’t have one specific favourite artist, but I do enjoy James Bay, Adele, Birdy and others I can’t remember right now. Yeseo, Saevom, LADIES’ CODE, 2NE1 are Korean artists I like. And then we also have Stromae who’s a Belgian rapper. :)

In Tumblr-ish we don't say "It's the second week of May" we say "EUROVISION SONG CONTEST !!!11!1!!" which literally translates to "Please no more ballads in English but more glitter, pianos on fire, dancing babushkas and Verka Serduchka !".

In Russian we don’t say “Cheers !”, so “на здоровье !” (na zdorovie !), when we drink. We drink for love “за любовь !” (za lyubov), for parents “за родителей !” (za roditelei !), for everyone who’s drinking at the moment “за всех собравшихся !” (za vseh sobravshyhsya) and basically for everything which comes up to our mind, praising the world and people around. And I think it makes more sense than using one cliche-phrase and I have no idea where all the foreigners got that fucking stereotype with “na zdorovie” stuff. Show me that person who’s spreading it, please !

In Irish we don’t say “Hello” we say “Dia duit” which literally translates to “God he with you” and I think that’s a terrifing reminder of the stranglehold the Catholic Church has our education and healthcare systems under.
