Day 13: Ash

Finally finished ash, didn't want to rush it. The beginning of the fall of the kingdom Nebelwald. Upon returning to the Nebelwald capital and arriving to the castle of the court from a diplomatic mission, young Maran experienced an overwhelming wild magic surge. One of unprecedented scale, the result of decades of bottled up wild magic. One of the worst seizures Maran had ever had. Upon coming too after having been unconscious for how knows how long she woke to find the castle in smouldering ruins, the entire court dead, nothing but ashes, rubble, bone bits and charmed scraps remained. With no clue as to who or what had caused this horror. For a long time Maran believed, that she had caused this destruction, as a result of the wild magic surge. A darker thought gnawed at the back of her mind. What if she had done it on purpose and simply forgotten? She was haunted by such thoughts. And the memories plagued her dreams. Her lungs choked with ash, smoke stinging her eyes, tongue caked with dust, the smell of charred flesh burning her nose. Even in waking, the taste of ash lingered.

Inktober 2019

Day 13: Ash

Ni-Dune stepped over the corpse easily, taking in the destruction around them.

Rubble surrounded them, broken bits of durasteel and plasteel half-buried in the dirt from the force of the blasts. Droid parts and sentient bits littered the street next to smoking hoverbikes and speeders. The nearby buildings that had taken the brunt of the explosions had their windows and doorways blown wide, ceilings collapsed and fires sparking. Smoke plumed everywhere, ash drifting around them.

Ni-Dune grinned. “Not bad,” they said aloud. 

Of course, no one was around to hear. Anyone left alive had fled deeper into the city. Not that Ni-Dune was going to be deterred by that. They had a job to do, after all; the Black Sun syndicate was paying them handsomely to eliminate a double-crossing cartel, and Ni-Dune was happy to oblige. 

And with no leads as to how to track down the skittish criminals, Ni-Dune had to make due. They’d stuck to the outskirts so far with their business, and the locals had dubbed them “The Scourge of Antar”. Ni-Dune realized they’d been neglecting the capital, and decided to pay it a visit.

Besides, this would be good practice, seeing just how effectively they could raze Antar’s capital. Could come in handy if they ever decided to return to Cerea and throw themselves a homecoming party.

Sirens wailed in the distance, and Ni-Dune considered their next move. “Forward, it would seem,” they announced to the decimated street. 

After all, Ni-Dune still had more than half a satchel of thermal detonators to spare. They shifted their blaster rifle to their right hand and picked a detonator out. They tossed it up like a child’s ball, catching it easily.

Humming, Ni-Dune strolled through the debris towards the city center, smoke and ash pluming the air around them.

Day 13 - Ash Yes, it’s another dragon, and so soon too X’D This character in particular is named “Ash”. He is my favourite playable character from an old childhood video game of mine called Mad Dash Racing. I think it was one of the Xbox’s original release games back in 2001. My sister and I played it 24/7. I loved all of the crazy characters of the game. According to the play manual, Ash is a dragon that can’t breath fire and has tiny wings.
