Was in two minds about parkrun this morning, forecast was more sun, heat & humidity. So I considered going out early instead. However once up early He weather wasn’t too bad & me ankle was stiff, so I decided parkrun & a decent warm up. I got a little too relaxed over breakfast & stretches that I managed to need to rush to get out of the door, so didn’t really have the gentle jog down to Poole park I intended! However I did get there on time. But in rushing down, I did confirm it was hot & humid even if not always sunny. Good to chat with @all_things_run.derful (and Nath) before & after. The run itself wasn’t pleasant, I didn’t really go off too quick, but to quick for the conditions & before I’d started the second mile I was going backwards. It was a struggle from then onwards. I go round though & a little pick up of pace in the last 150 metres. I spied a photographer at the finish too, hopefully there might be a decent photo coming soon! Off to work now to do my monthly cover of the Saturday shift & then the fun of a kids party this afternoon (indoors)! Going to try to get out on the bike in the morning. 💩 Shit happens... How you handle it matters most.⁣ When something happens that throws a wrench in your plans or sets you back, you could wallow in self pity and feel sorry for yourself and give up. But what is the point in that? it's simply non-productive and won't make the situation any better. If anything, it will end up dragging you down even more.⁣ ⁣ Refocus that frustration and energy into seeking a solution. Shift your goals and work toward setting things right so you can get back on track ASAP! The longer you despair the further away the repair.⁣ ⁣ About 1 year into lifting, I suffered a shoulder labrum tear. I simply tried to use weight that was too heavy for me when doing incline chest flys. The weight pulled my am back and over-rotated it before I could drop the dumbbell. I spent 3 months doing physical therapy rehab and then it took another 9 months to get to the same point I was at before the injury. It was scary as hell for a while when I went back to lifting, but that experience forced me to learn more about strength training and how to avoid future injuries. I have managed to keep progressing with what I learned. Unfortunately, the best lessons are often learned the hard way.⁣ ⁣ I'm sure many of you are feeling setback because of Covid in one way or another. Maybe you lost strength, maybe you gained weight, maybe your plans were ruined for something not fitness related. If so, try to come away from it with a lesson, some kind of insight, or a new found appreciation. That is the best way to turn a negative into a positive.⁣ ⁣ Don't give up... don't despair. Thursdays have been #crosstraining days of late and that meant it was time to hit the pool at #providencerecenter for some 100s. I was feeling it from yesterday - when I ran the longest I had yet in this #injurycomeback then threw a whole bunch of #strengthtraining at myself. I felt the fatigue early but I kept plowing along and it got better. 1200 yards all together. I’m enjoying how my weeks are beginning to feel like “training weeks” again, even though I have nothing in particular to train for at the moment. I suppose I’m just liking the routine again. That said I’m hoping to be ready for some #masterstrackandfield by summer. Until then, I’ll just keep building. One brick at a time. 🧱

Crazy day, so late in posting today’s parkrun. My 80th @aletakilgore 50th and great to run with @davidrutt1980, @all_things_run.derful & #nath . Plus a drink & chat afterwards. Really struggling at the moment, started okay, but legs really heavy & slowed over the 5km. Still a little half sprint finish, but not really fasten enough to be considered an actual sprint. However quicker than last week & almost perfect running weather. Been it on the quay, having a couple of drinks & a proper relaxing Saturday afternoon with @st4rbug, @davidrutt1980 & #nath beers, Poole and plenty of laughs. Much needed & very enjoyable. Home to a chippy supper & venom film. No rugby tomorrow so the first Sunday lay in, in a while & then a family roast dinner. After a week of knee feeling fine & resisting the urge to go running in the week. I got up early enough & made my way to Poole park this morning. It wasn’t fast, although it did pick up the pace a little in the last 400metres. But I completed it. After having to stop Easter weekend, I’m very happy I got round in one piece. I went off a little fast, but if felt comfortable. It wasn’t until I checked the time for the first mile I realised it was a bit quicker than intended. I did struggle in the middle, at times it felt like I was running in treacle & then going backwards! However once in the home straight I sucked it up & pushed on to the end. I opened up a little in the last few hundred meters, but not the pace I’ve had in the past. I can’t cal it a sprint finish, hopefully that will come with time. The weather was about perfect & with the long sleeved undershirt I was a little over dressed. I hope it stays for the whole of the bank holiday weekend. Plan is to get out at least once in the week & prepare for pacing event next week I’m going to attempt to follow the 30 pacer & out sprint them in the final 100 meters. I know I’ll be with about 100 trying to do the same, so if not I can live with it. The plan post c25k was run all the park runs between finishing the course & pacing event so I would be ready to go under 30. Missing a couple of weeks has left me undercooked, but it will be my best chance for a while. ‘To fail means at least I tried. Wet #longrun today with the @runpacers Fairfax Sunday group. I made it all the way to #burkelakepark which was my 7-Mile turnaround point. Actually there was a race going on at the park when I arrived. Took a quick restroom break then headed back the way I had come. It wasn’t a fast run by any means but I was just focused on consistency, good form and getting the miles done. Hard to believe that 14 is my longest run in nearly 18 months. As my good Irish friend, @liamo16 says, believe in the comeback.
