taiwan travelogue by yang shuangzi tr. lin king is indeed an award-winning banger and perhaps the first time in my life i've ever felt vindicated for dual-wielding a novel with its english translation because the act of translation itself is such a big theme in the novel. big win for metafiction-obsessed himejin everywhere!!
Tumblr media
#i genuinely burst into tears twice just thinking about the ending of this book#read if you enjoy: narratives about colonialism. barriers to understanding formed by language and power dynamics. FOOD AS LOVE#i also just bought the authors most recent book and its also very fun and maybe what id recommend as a lighter entry point into her work#as a yuri thats also very slice-of-life with food-as-love themes but requires less historical/cultural background to access#alas no. 1 siwei st doesnt have a translation. yet... unless.......#txt#spoilers further in tags#i think part of what makes chizuru/chien-ho such an intriguing character is carried by the conceit of translation as interpretation#her role as someone who dreams of translating novels but not one who writes them... delivering others stories to a broader audience#shes very much a character who we only get to see from the outside; most notably from the perspective of the novel's unreliable narrator#which we read as a 2nd ed translation of the original japanese text by an uninvolved third party looking back years after the authors death#but it turns out [spoilers] chizuru herself wrote the 1st ed translation and the first time we hear *her* voice is in her translators note#and her perspective and the negative space between her words are both *infinitely* fascinating#even the concept! of translating a novel where youre a main character who the narrator loves and desperately wants to understand! wtf!!!!!!#rotating her in my mind. 小千妳到底是何方聖神啊...

La Novia de la Luna (The Bride of The Moon)
Leon S. Kennedy x Female!Reader
I’ve written the summary, which I’ll share here so you can read it and help me decide whether to proceed with writing it as a full novel, a reader insert, or scrap it.
However, the content mentions dark themes…
And If I get enough ‘yes’ votes, I’ll post both the prologue and a separate content warning page (there’s a lot of warnings…)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Summary:
In 1994, 14-year-old Y/n L/n vanished without a trace during a family vacation to Barcelona. No ransom was ever demanded, and her body was never found. No clues emerged, leaving only a single photograph—her pale face blurred in the background of a grainy image taken in rural Spain—to surface.
After that, silence fell upon the case.
Eleven years later, in 2005, Agent Leon S. Kennedy is dispatched to a remote village to rescue the U.S. President’s daughter from the cult known as Los Iluminados.
However, the briefing also holds a second, buried objective: Y/n L/n has been confirmed alive and still in Spain, but not in chains.
She has become their miracle, their object of obsession for world domination.
Worshipped as La Novia de la Luna—The Moon’s Bride—Y/n is the living saint of the Plaga. The cult believes she houses the corrupted divine will of the parasite not through infection, but through purity.
She has never been touched or allowed to grow old. Her youthfulness was preserved as sacred flesh, her image carved into stone and bone, and her silence made (un)holy. They tend to her body like a shrine, singing to it, kneeling before it, and praying it will make the Plaga stronger and more obedient.
She is not sick. She is sanctified.
When Leon finds her, she stands barefoot on ancient stone, her eyes too old for her face veiled in black. She doesn’t flinch from him, only asking, “Are you here to worship, or to kill me?”
He doesn’t do either. Instead, he reaches out and touches the girl who hasn’t been touched in 11 years.
Their escape turns the ground into blood-soaked soil as they flee through a countryside erupting with parasitic violence.
Something dangerous and forbidden by the cult coils between them.
Y/n, whose body has only ever been claimed, begins to wonder what it means to want. Leon, who has only ever touched in one-night stands, begins to learn how to hold.
What grows between them is slow, shattering, and real. When they finally come together, it is not salvation—it is heresy, blasphemous, and raw. Two bodies, made symbols by violence, reclaim each other in flesh.
But the cult will not let go of their Plaga Saint—Saddler’s La Novia Eterna, His Eternal Bride.
He believes Y/n’s body is sacred, the key to his domination. If she refuses to return willingly, he will take her as a vessel or burn the world trying.
The Moon’s Bride is a gothic horror romance drenched in religious madness, erotic reclamation, and the slow, beautiful violence of intimacy. This is not the story of a damsel and a hero. It is the story of a girl turned god—and the man who dared to love her back into being.

I know this is the gay fanfic shipper website but I swear to god if I see more people completely and utterly ignore the compelling themes and messages brought up in a work in favour of looking into every little line of dialogue and microexpression to show how much these characters who are explicitly stated to be platonic are "more than just friends" and have to be romantic lovers I'm going Joker Mode

Since their introduction, so many of us have been trying to find the theme and metaphor of World Hater as our primary antagonist. Is is hunter v prey? Hunter v farmer? Life v death? I love all of theories and I'm inclined to believe all of them are true in one way or another, and I'm excited to see what we lean into as the story continues
And now we have this page
Tumblr media
Now I'm leaning more towards the circle of life. Ichi embraces the cycle. He kills only to survive, and he knows someday it will be his turn to be killed for something else to survive. What we've seen of the witches works this way too: they aquire and aquire until they fail, and when they die their majiks return to the ecosystem to be acquired again.
But World Hater breaks the cycle. They are not life until death until life. They are obliteration. They are entropy. And, as of now, I think our thematic core is that they will need to be hunted to be put back into their place in the cycle.

God I really hope the game doesn't End with Mel reuniting her family because the adjustment period is going to be SO messy and I want to see all of it
I want to see Zag have to come to terms with the fact that the sister who for all he knows was a newborn just moments ago has grown into her own woman and he wasn't around for any of it, like literally she was just a baby and now they're practically the same age how does that work
I want to see the angelic, idealized vision Mel has of her older brother clash with the reality that he's a mouthy little shit, a bit of a slacker and a goofball if you will, I want to see her actually have to share a space with him for the first time and get pissed off at how disorganized he is, maybe even snap and lose her temper at him before finally realizing that, good and bad, this is what it means to have a family, THIS is what Chronos took from her

I'm so glad i watched Sk8 the Infinity as an adult and not a teen so I didn't turn into one of those annoying idiots who complain about "renga not being canon because they didn't kiss"

What is a fandom you most enjoyed being a part of?
....i don't know.
none of the fandoms I've been in have been without the occasional loud, opinionated anon, or sects of shippers who've decided that their ship is the only one that matters and all others must die. that's just how fandoms are sometimes, though i wish we could all realize that it really, truly isn't that serious.
so I'll just say the monster loving community and move on. they're a generally good bunch.
