would it be too on-the-nose to make Beetle Raider’s transformation cry “change beetle” or is this one of my infrequent great ideas

update to this: as anticipated in the tags for the original post, i’ve decided to go with the name “digital archaeology”, since that’s pretty much what it is, i.e., the study of human history and culture through digital media.
on a semi-related note, i’ve spent the morning learning about link rot. did you know half of all the links in supreme court rulings no longer work?
so i’m writing another infernocross thing and i could use some help. assuming in the far, far future, after society inevitably collapses and rebuilds itself, i feel like there would be some sort of career or profession or something that digs through old internet data and web servers and stuff and uses it to study old internet culture, sorta like an archaeologist for the digital age. is this already a thing? what would such a job even be called? i was thinking “digital archaeologist” but part of me really wants to call it something complex and dumb, like an “internaut” or “netologist” or something.

Infernocross - Brendan's Magic "Tricks"
So I have this character, Brendan, who's sort of a main character but also really not. He's basically Ethan/Glaive's annoying "friend", and a convenient plot device for reasons I'll elaborate on in a bit. His whole deal is that he's a magic user, but due to how he uses it, he just thinks he's really good at stage magic and parlor tricks and stuff.
For example, when he does a card trick, he's not actually using any of the mechanics or sleight-of-hand you'd use in an actual card trick. He's actually just looking into all the possible futures and selecting the one where he successfully pulls the trick off.
Or if you've ever seen someone catch a bullet, he can do that too. Here's how Google says the actual trick is done IRL:
Tumblr media
Yeah, Brendan doesn't do that. Instead, he slows time and decreases the inertia of the bullet so that it doesn't hurt him when he catches it.
My favorite example of Brendan's stage-magic-using-real-magic is, however, not even really stage magic. So y'know that thing where you pretend to detach and reattach your thumb? The Flying Dutchman did it in an episode of Spongebob. Lemme see if I can find a pic.
Tumblr media
Yeah, that. Brendan can do that, but like, for real. Like, he actually removes and reattaches his thumb. He can do it to other people, too. This especially comes in handy if, say, someone has their arm cut off, because it's not just limited to thumbs. The only problem is, and this is the part I find hilarious, he's such a dick about it. The whole time as he's doing it, regardless of how grave the injury is or how dire the circumstance, he will always, without fail, be going on the entire time about how embarrassing it is for whoever it is he's fixing up that he has to do this for them, and how this is "the easiest trick in the book", and all kinds of other stuff like that, even though he's literally reattaching people's limbs. I don't know, I just think that's really funny.
But yeah. He's also got this one trick I saw performed on YouTube Shorts by this Australian dude, where (I won't spoil it; you can watch it here if you'd like) he somehow materializes four oranges from three cups. I figured if I had a character that could reattach people's cut-off limbs for them, I might as well give him a way to create food for people. Shame he can only make oranges, though...

pov: you ask the guys for their opinions on death grips
Glaive: kinda weird but i fuck with it tbh
Caliber: hell to the yes, inject this shit directly into my brain stem and let’s go fight cops
Beet: this? this is fuckin’ amazing. i didn’t even know instruments could make sounds like that.
Scori: I feel as if I have just been an accomplice to several crimes.
Violen: PAIN OF THE GAME MAKES ME INSANE MAKES ME FUCK UP MY WHOLE THING *chucks a sledgehammer through a window*
Simon: who the fuck broke my window >:(

Infernocross - Scori (Updated)
Okay, yeah, I know I've been posting a lot today. It's my first day back on my ADHD meds and I've got a lot of ideas for things. This'll probably be the last real thing I put out today, and it's something relatively minor, specifically a redesign of one of my characters, Scori.
Tumblr media
I did kinda rush in some spots, and it's nowhere near as good as I'd like, but here's the latest design for the 7 foot man who's built like a brick wall with the emotional spectrum to match, Scori. Based on Broly from Dragon Ball Z (and I guess now Super as well), Scori is the goodest good guy that's ever good guyed. He's meant to have that sort of really buff shonen hero aesthetic but neither Kisekae (which I used to design Glaive and Caliber) nor HeroMachine 3 (which I used to design Beetle Raider, Violen, Khaios, Kabiron, Garath, and King Bassark, as well as every Chaleon form, though that's a different plate of cookies for a different type of milk) have the body types or general art style I imagine Scori in. Plus, Kisekae, despite having a general anime style, has basically no pre-made options for armor of any kind. The closest I could get were some belts that I colored gold to be arm/leg bands. The big belt and torn cloth things were last minute additions in Photoshop, specifically of two items from HeroMachine, just so he wouldn't look so naked. Speaking of, I can confirm he has something on under the red cloth. I don't think I could've worked on this if he didn't.
But yeah. That's probably my last major post for the day. idk what i'm gonna work on tomorrow. Maybe more Chaleon. Maybe not. Idk. That's a problem for future me.

Tumblr media
i redesigned one of my characters (Beetle Raider) last night and i’m still kind of in awe of how good it looks. like… y’know who made that? i made that.
to be fair, the parts were all from heromachine 3. i just put them together and slapped a bitchin’ coat of paint on it in photoshop BUT STILL! does it not look insanely good??

Infernocross - King Bassark
As promised in the previous post (available here, for your convenience), I return to you with a new Infernocross character design. It's Violen's father, the King of Hell himself, King Bassark!
Tumblr media
Much like how Violen is a more monstrous, demonic take on Kamen Rider Kiva, his father takes inspiration from Kamen Rider Dark Kiva, as evident from his teal eyes and larger, more imposing appearance.
In-canon, he rules over the underworld with an iron fist, having done so for centuries. He's seen his fair share of battles, as evidenced by the holes and tears in the membrane of his wings. Although he disapproves of Violen's unwillingness to perform his duties as a member of Hell's ruling class, he still has a great love and respect for both his sons. He has a minor distaste for those Violen chooses to surround himself with, believing their strong senses of "justice" and "compassion" to be lies told to the weak to ease their fears of the truly powerful taking their "rightful place" and ruling over them.
Although he does not believe in "friendship" or "comraderie" in the traditional sense, he has great respect for those he deems powerful or skilled, regardless of their allegiance or alignment.
Out-of-canon, he's basically just Violen plus 20 years and a shit-ton of muscle. I opted not to texture this dude like I did Violen's redesign, but I may go back and do it if I really feel like it. For now, I guess just imagine he's got the same textures as Violen, if they really add to the experience.
You may notice his mouth is slightly different than Violen's. That was intentional. Violen is supposed to be very cheerful and carefree, being a rebellious teenager that doesn't listen to no dumb rulez or whatever, while King Bassark is supposed to be a boring old man that's swamped in responsibilities and bureaucracy and whatnot, so instead of a wide, toothy grin, I gave him a grumpy, pissed-off grimace with exposed gums that I'm not sure you can see all that well, but they're there. I also opted to make his winged design his only design, both to show off his battle damage, and to make him look bigger and more imposing. Also as a reference to Dark Kiva's cape.
His armwear is also different from Violen's. His shoulderpads are beefier, are mostly red (as opposed to Violen's, which are entirely silver), and extend down his biceps. He also lacks the bandages Violen wears, though I can't remember why I did this. I'm sure there's some sort of lore reason in there somewhere. Oh well. Problems for future me, I suppose. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Had I textured this design as I did with Violen's, I would have probably made his arm spikes chipped and cracked to reinforce the point that this man has seen some shit. For now, I'll just say he's wearing decorative spike covers, and that cracked or chipped arm spikes are seen by his people as a sign of weakness or a moral failing or something like that.
I left his chestplate the same as Violen's as a bit of visual similarity to remind the viewer that they are, in fact, related. I did change his lower torso and legs to be more armored, again to reinforce that he's seen his fair share of battles. The boots, contrary to what you might think, aren't there to drill into your head how much fighting experience he has. No, I think the rest of his design does that well enough. I just wanted to add a bit more Kiva/Dark Kiva influence so I gave him big ol' armor boots, like Dark Kiva and Kiva Emperor have.
I'm pretty sure I mentioned in my posts about Violen that his main weapons are his claws and arm spikes, and that's partially true for King Bassark as well, although he's also proficient in the manipulation of Hellfire, a demonic variant of the Pyromancy used by Glaive and, formerly, Simon. I'm also just gonna go ahead and canonize the fact that Violen also has powers over Hellfire, but they're nowhere near as powerful or refined as his father's, and he dislikes using them because they remind him of his dad, who as I've stated before, he doesn't like very much.
As always, comments, questions, suggestions, etc. are all welcome and encouraged, whether they be thru notes on this post (or any of my others), DMs, or my ask box. Thanks for taking the time to read this post, and most importantly, have a good day. :)

would it be too dumb to draw comics for my main worldbuilding/fiction thing in-character as the main character, and explain the inevitably bad art as the character himself also being bad at art?

finally decided to design one of the less important characters in infernocross lore. this is Radix. he’s a robot. he sorts data and is named after a sorting algorithm.
he doesn’t look exactly like the image but hopefully it gets the vibes across adequately enough. the head is an imac g3 with this photo of a crt screen:
Tumblr media
his body is a boston dynamics robot with the arms of ASIMO. his face is just the =) emoticon rotated 90° clockwise.
if you’re wondering why i’m not going super in-depth with his backstory, it involves a lot of things i’ve yet to explain about the lore and tbh i don’t feel like getting into it rn. i’ll get around to it eventually. for the time being, i hope this is something. heck i’m tired.

Y’know, I didn’t realize it at the time, but I accidentally had a DBZ Abridged reference in Infernocross for a while. Before I restructured Khaios’ whole evil empire, his two direct subordinates were Chiricos (a somewhat rotund cloud-man) and Kabiron (an old, emaciated dwarf-man in viking clothes). In episode 35 of DBZ Abridged, a guy refers to Androids 19 and 20 as an “inconspicuous old man and mime”, the joke being that Android 20 (the “inconspicuous old man”) is dressed like a soviet MC Hammer and Android 19 (the mime) looks like this:
Tumblr media
Two of my characters were literally an “inconspicuous old man and mine”.

was scrolling thru my twitter and found a design for a now-scrapped/shelved character. figured i’d post it here for completions sake.
Tumblr media
this is (was?) Chiricos, now-former third member of Khaios’ main group of evil fellas. he was intended to be a sort of “comedic relief” but i recently restructured the whole hierarchy and setup of how Khaios’ “empire” operates (it’s more of a cult now, as opposed to the sort of pyramid-scheme/military hybrid it used to be) and realized he didn’t really fit in with the whole thing anymore, so into the box of unused concepts he goes.
as evidenced by his name and design, he’s based on clouds, with design influences from classic Mega Man Robot Masters, most notably Cloud Man and Wind Man.
actually designing him was hell. i came up with an initial design, which got all the way to coloring, before i decided with great pain to shelve that design and start over, since, while the design shown above doesn’t perfectly align with what i had in mind for him, “frog robot with turbine nipples” was even further off.
i think my idea for the design was “ancient wind/weather deity in terracotta armor, upgraded by Khaios to be more powerful/intimidating/better-equipped-for-battle” but tbh it’s been a while since i actually came up with the design that i’m probably misremembering and/or forgetting some parts.
this was also my first time trying to do shading manually, as can be seen from the scribbles on the grey parts. i was trying to give them the appearance of metal armor plating but looking back on it, it looks kinda like tinfoil or one of those thin sheets they use to make the cartoon wobble sound effects.
tbh i’m still really proud of how the cloud arms & legs look, even if the rest of it isn’t all too great. oh, also, minor footnote: this whole thing was colored in photoshop. you can tell because the arm parts have three different colors (excluding the lines) which isn’t possible in Heromachine without some masking trickery.
but yeah that’s about it for this guy. if i find the frog-with-turbine-nipples design i’ll add it in an edit/reblog.
idk how to end posts.

i’ve been meaning to give one of my characters, Scori, an “actual” design like I have with Beetle Raider and Violen, but I can’t find a way to actually get the design how i want it to look. i suck at drawing people (and am too busy/impatient/adhd to learn/get better) so that’s out, heromachine (the program I used for Beet and Violen) is too realistic, kisekae has the right sort of style but i can’t figure out how to give a character in it the body shape/proportions i’m imagining, and dbz character creators (Scori is heavily inspired by Dragon Ball characters and I guess shonen anime as a whole) lack the depth and options necessary to make anything beyond Vegeta in the clothes of the other Z Warriors. like… he’s not even based on vegeta! that doesn’t help me at all!
i just need a character creator with the depth of kisekae, the customization options of heromachine, and the style of a DBZ dress-up game all in one, so that the one reference image i have for this character doesn’t look like a bald shirtless weightlifter in a teal wig and a skirt.

y’know for the longest time i had trouble writing, usually in regards to infernocross, my main fiction writing project. earlier tonight, though, i got the urge to write a story, and had the idea to try using present tense, since the whole “lore” was just fancy background detail for a character I used to roleplay on Google+, and that’s how I would write in RPs, and can I just say that I have never been this productive while writing something? like… i know it’s incredibly specific and will most likely help absolutely no one but… holy heck. one slight problem is that the story i decided to write in present tense centers around a time loop so i anticipate tenses to get really fucked up sometime in the near future.
