Where the 92nd division distinguished itself, the 93rd did not:

The 93rd division's experience on Bougainville, in the Pacific, would share with the dubious distinction of the Triple-Nickles in 1950 a key part in the formal decisions to disband segregated Army units entirely. One of the realities behind this was a particular set of bureaucratic ledgerdemain where any less than desirable performance where a Black unit was in the vicinity was blamed on them and they were scapegoated for it, whether or not it was actually true or not. In the case of the Triple Nickles there was more truth and still a double standard where in the Bouganville case there was a complete bare-faced lie.

The result was the 93rd division hopping from one support position to another, denied all the while the chances to distinguish itself given to the 92nd. The result, equally, was that while Black Marines had the chances to fight in the bloodier battles of the Pacific War, Black Army soldiers, after Bougainville, ultimately avoided those fates.
