if i failed to protect my kid during the apocalypse and they almost died wandering on their own but got rescued by a team of four competent, battle-experienced adults who cared about them very much and made them feel less scared and useless but refused to let them fight, i think that would be a pretty decent outcome and i'd be pretty okay with it. sure i could dream up a better situation but there's a hell of a lot of worse ones too.

Hear me out, joel is modeling himself after a man with a friends are family and family is everything mentality to hopefully make and maintain friendships (which makes me insane btw) and he just so happens to look like mr loyal himself skizzleman

On a more serious note, I'm still doing some personal research/exploration. For some reason, 'symmetry' is what's sticking in my mind. Because to this day, symmetry is a common beauty standard; character design-wise it represents balance & control. As Aphrodite's favourite, I imagine him always looking p̸̣̆e̵͈̒ŗ̵̄f̶̼̈́é̵ͅc̵̪͝ṭ̶̎ to the point it's uncanny, like a doll. Even if he's covered in sweat, blood & grime, it's hard for him to look hideous & that's arguably the creepiest part.

When chatting with @dkmbookworm, both of us also agreed that Paris would have an ectomorph body type; long & lean but hard to put on weight/muscle mass.

He's also taller than Odysseus. This doesn't intimidate him but what terrifies him is how easily those lean arms could pin him down as more hands, a kaleidoscope of slim tapered fingers like snakes, invisible to mortal eyes except his own, caress Odysseus while protecting Paris.

Paris looks pretty & soft but when he hugs Telemachus, his skinny, bony arms dig into the boy, all sharp edges. Paris reaches out & holds him, but Telemachus does not feel embraced.

.....does this make sense? Sorry, I couldn't help but go more poetic than concrete with the descriptions.

what really fucks me up about a death in the family is that, beyond the fact that jason's death was determined by vote, the fact people could vote as many times as they liked, the closeness of the margin, etc.

it's that the vote wasn't for 'does batman get there in time to save jason' it was for 'when bruce digs through that blown up warehouse, does he find a corpse or a living body.' the vote is for 'does jason get to have enough plot armor to survive getting beaten with a crowbar and then blown up'

either way, batman is too late. he was always going to be too late.

This is a very very unfinished thought but I've been thinking a lot as I reread the books about how the women of House of the Dragon don't really get catharsis and how that'll likely be worse in S2. Say what you want about asoiaf but a number of named women there experience catharsis.

They kill their abusers (Lysa, Cersei, Dany). They regain some agency after a violation (Lysa, Cersei, Lady Stoneheart, Dany), and they refuse to forgive the people complicit in their subjugation (Lysa, Cersei, Dany, Lady Stoneheart, Jeyne Westerling).

Obviously, three or four isn't enough in such an expansive cast of characters but the point remains that they claw back their autonomy however they have to. They're allowed to be angry, bitter, unforgiving and cruel to their abusers in a way women in House of the Dragon just aren't allowed. They're allowed grief, grief that is violent and destructive.

The women of House of the Dragon don't get angry. They stand around and stare plaintively at the camera, they cry prettily, and they plead for peace and non-violence. They suffer and suffer and suffer and there's no relief.

Thinking about how Dakota is a perfect candidate for being stuck in a time loop. He so desperately wants to save everyone, do the right things, be a good person, friend, nephew, son, hero

Thinking of how at every opportunity he would risk his life to save the people he cares about but he is destined to fail, not because he can’t save people, but because he insists on doing it alone

He needs help, he needs his team, he needs support. He is a great hero but not alone, he cannot do it alone. And at the end of the day he’d get out of the loop not by saving everyone, because he has to lose Ashe there’s no other way, but by working with his team and moving forward together

And even then he doesn’t leave the clutches of the loop, he may not be reliving the same day, the same fight, but he loses sight of working as a team and gets trapped again believing he has to do it all alone

Just Dakota Cole finding himself in a time loop and when he inevitably breaks free he traps himself in one of his own creation
