Xōchihuah๑ A Nahua term meaning "flower-bearer" or "possessor of flowers". This is a two-spirit identity, neither fully male nor fully female, for Nahua people partaking in both male and female paths of living!
[PT: Xochihuah /end PT]
Symbolism: The flag itself is based on the Nahua flag. The yellow background is for femininity, as women would paint themselves yellow as a sign of their beauty, as would Xōchihuah. The red and orange are taken from the colors of Xōchipilli, protector of Mexicah queer folk.
I'm aware another Xōchihuah flag has been made before, but that one didn't seem to have much meaning behind the chosen colors, so I decided to make this one myself to be more meaningful and show what it actually means.

I made an indigenous Australia flag for my house cuz I'm too poor to buy one from an indigenous artist and I didn't want to buy one from a store.
I also painted some old fandom pins I had cuz I couldn't find anyone selling them.

I keep seeing posts on social media thanking the OFMD cast and crew for their work and not mentioning Taika, and it's driving me to distraction because Taika is absolutely fundamental to the existence of this show.
There's a huge chance the show wouldn't have been picked up at all if Taika hadn't attached his name to it. And he didn't just attach his name and walk away - he played a key role in developing the show. David has said that he was looking at the history with Taika and they both went 'omg Stede and Blackbeard were fucking' and decided to centre the show around that. Taika pushed for Rhys to play Stede. Taika saw Nathan's comedy on instagram and went 'yep that's Lucius'. Taika was desperate to play Ed, and fought to play him. Taika has spoken about how much he loves playing Ed, how it made him fall in love with acting again, to the point where he wears some of Ed's jewellery and has gotten some of Ed's tattoos actually inked on him. He poured everything he has as an actor into Ed (some of the stuff he had to perform, particularly at the beginning of S2, is difficult) and the show simply wouldn't work without it. Taika directed the pilot. He loved the show enough to juggle filming S1 with post-production on Thor: Love and Thunder. When the show's budget was slashed by 40%, and could no longer afford to film in LA, Taika would have been key to moving production to New Zealand - and if that hadn't happened, S2 wouldn't have happened. When a director went off sick with Covid during S2, Taika jumped in to direct half an episode and then didn't take a director's credit on it.
You do not have to like Taika. You do not have to agree with everything he does/says. But what we are not going to do is erase the absolutely key fundamental role that Taika has played in OFMD. This show simply would not exist, probably not in any form, but certainly not in the form we see and love, if not for Taika's continuing and multi-level contribution.

It was Indigenous People's Day so I made some intersex + Indigenous flags
Since I've been on a roll in making intersex flags. First: flags for the three major types of Indigenous groups whose lands were stolen to create the country I live in (Canada):
Left: intersex and First Nations (American Indian Movement) Middle: intersex and Inuit Right: intersex and Métis
Then I made some intersex flags for some specific First Nations whose cultures I have at least basic familiarity with: Left: Haida ©️........... Middle: Huu-ay-aht ©️....... Right: Musqueam ©️
Left: Blackfoot ........ Middle: Anishinaabe ©️ ... Right: Haudenosaunee
Note: The last three are confederacies of multiple nations. Order is based on geography, going west to east.
Personal Note: I am a settler and am not a member of any of these nations. I've moved many times in my life, and these nations are the rightful stewards of the lands that I personally feel I have the most connection to. 💜
Tagging for archival: @intersexflags @varsex-pride @radiomogai @beyond-mogai-pride-flags
Edit to note: at the time I made this post I was under the impression all of the First Nations flags above were public domain. I have since learnt that the license information of many of the original flags on Wikimedia Commons were incorrect.
The Haida, Huu-ay-aht, Musqueam, and Anishinaabe flags are all definitely copyrighted. You can still use and share the intersex versions, just don't go uploading them to Wikimedia Commons, or using the designs for commercial purposes (unless you get permission from the relevant First Nation!)
The AIM, Inuit, Métis, and Haudenosaunee flags are all public domain, and so my intersex versions are public domain too.
The copyright status of the Blackfoot flag I'm not certain about - I haven't been able to track down that information one way or the other.

my go at a takatāpui flag!! <3 <3 <3 <3
takatāpui is a te reo māori term that traditionally means "intimate partner of the same sex" but has in modern times been reclaimed by queer māoris of various identities. before colonization it was totally normal and accepted for māori people to have partners of the same sex or to transition their gender; british colonization brought homophobia and transphobia along with suppression of many other aspects of māori culture. in the 1980s, māori members of the lgbtq+ community started using the term takatāpui to mean queer/lgbtq+
I only recently found out about this term and already it means a lot to me... I didn't grow up in aotearoa and there are literally no māori people where I live so it's hard sometimes to feel connected w my heritage. and also I live in a conservative area and my family is christian as hell so it can be hard to feel connected to the lgbtq+ community too. which is to say, I'm glad to now have the word takatāpui connecting me to my queer māori whānau <3 <3
there is no official takatāpui flag, but I came up w this one, combining the rainbow flag and trans flag w the māori flag. if ur takatāpui hmu lets be friends!!! and if u use my flag pls tag me <3

Re-design of my tribes flag, thoughts?
Did this just for fun, and also because I thought our original flag is kind of ugly. I like the seal, but a flag shouldn’t be a seal slapped onto a rectangle, especially with just our name at the top in bold white.
CGP grey taught me better than that.
So here we are.
Explanation for everything:
The large eagle in the middle is there because eagles are very important to my tribe, messengers of prayer. We also own an eagle sanctuary for injured birds and distribute their sacred feathers.
The fire has two meanings, one for our name and role, Fire Keepers/People of the Place of the Fire, and the fire has seven points for the seven fires prophecy. (A very important part of our tribals history migrating across turtle island)
The eagle has a three pointed crest on their chest, one for each tribe in the three fires council that makes up the Nishnabe
The crest is in a circle, not just as a reference to the original seal but also for our dancing circles at powwows.
And finally the boarder is a medicine wheel for the four directions, seasons and sacred medicines.
Thank you for reading!!

[ PT: two-spirit flag! /End PT ]

wanted to make my own 2S flag; tried to keep the colors all connected to nature. this is a deeply cultural identity for indigenous people only. non-natives are, of course, still free to reblog this flag, though. the image descriptions below and in the alt text were provided by @/julietianboy.

Intersex Remembrance Day flag
I made a flag for intersex folks who commemorate Remembrance Day, whether for being a veteran, having connections to the military, or just wanting to honour the lives impacted by war.
It's early November, which in Canada means the poppies are out. Poppies, a reference to the poem In Flander's Fields, are worn from the start of the month to November 11 (Remembrance Day) to honour military personnel and the lives lost to war.
The poppies that people wear are then left at cenotaphs at the end of Remembrance Day ceremonies, along with wreaths and other mementos. (It is considered inappropriate to wear a poppy thereafter.)
It's a quiet, sombre holiday taken pretty seriously here, calling on people to acknowledge and grieve the horror that is war. Some of the most passionate and memorable antiwar messaging I've heard in my life has come from veterans speaking at Remembrance Day ceremonies.
November 8th is Indigenous Veterans Day. Despite the fact that Canada was actively trying to genocide its Indigenous population, Indigenous folks enlisted in the World Wars in remarkable numbers. You can read more about Indigenous Veterans here.
Similar traditions are observed in other countries - I used the poppy design I'm used to as a Canadian, which doesn't have any leaf or stem. Some other countries like the UK tend to have a leaf or stem added to the design. (Design note: @scifimagpie gave me feedback on a couple of design options and helped me pick the final one.)
Given the war in Ukraine and the genocide in Gaza, war is on a lot of our minds right now. If you have the means to donate, CripsForESimsForGaza is a disability-led campaign to keep Gazans connected that I've been donating to and would recommend. 💜

DO NOT SUPPORT TJ KLUNE
I read a lot of LGBTQ 🏳️🌈 books and I remembering reading his “Under the Whispering Tree” and it was beautiful. So when he released the “House in the Cerulean Sea” and it was labeled like a Harry Potter -esque book, I bought it and read it. (No, I don’t support Jk Rowling at all and her transphobic ass, but I did read HP growing up and have been looking for a LGBTQ magical book without the shit Rowling stands for).
Was his book good? Yes, but i noticed some weird insinuations and stereotypes in his book. When I looked at his IG, I expected to see other queer authors I follow following him. Not a single one does. That should’ve been my red flag. I felt kinda curious so my gf and I went in book tok and thank gawd I did cuz holy shit this little duology he created is SO PROBLEMATIC!
RED FLAGS 🚩
“draws inspiration from the traumatic reality of Canadian residential schools for Indigenous children, portraying the experience as a lighthearted fantasy story.” BIG YIKES 🚩
Appropriation of Indigenous trauma
Glamorizing abuse for the “white savior” storyline
All white washed LGBTQ lead characters. No or very few black or brown LGBTQ diversity in his repertoire
When people called him out on his insensitivity to writing about indigenous trauma and a few indigenous people offered their help to share their experiences to make his story not so insensitive, HE REFUSED AND MADE ANOTHER SEQUEL!
Yet, so many yt readers LOVE his books despite all the red flags. Why? Racism and the need for a white savior storyline even in the queer community.
At the end of the day, there is still racism even in the queer community. They would rather support a clearly problematic author when there are TONS of other LGBTQIA authors of all different backgrounds and races that create amazing work that isn’t filled with harmful stereotypes (shoutout to Aidan Thomas’s Sunbearer Trials).
If you want recommendations, I’ll give them to you. But like JK Rowling, if you’re going to support an author who is full of red flags and purposefully creates stories that harms minority groups for profit, you just value white queer voices and don’t give a shit about black brown queer voices at all.
I said what I said.
