Pavel's puppy-matcher published a new book assembling articles from Journal of the International Society for Preservation of Primitive Aboriginal Dogs (PADS). It's about 900-pages long.
Explore the rich history of man's best friend and the diverse perspectives on the topic of primitive and aboriginal dogs with "The Dogs of Our Ancestors."  With contributions from a range of international authors, this hardcover volume features essays and articles offering a wealth of knowledge on topics such as the rich history of native dogs, the evolution of different breeds, their unique characteristics, their crucial relationship with humans throughout history, and the legacy and preservation of these disappearing breeds. Published originally as the Primitive & Aboriginal Dogs Society's on-line journal – PADS International – this extensively researched and well-referenced material, with thorough descriptions and insightful analysis, is perfect for anyone looking to broaden their knowledge about aboriginal dogs that are invisible to the cultured-breed experts.  The book features a foreword by Vladimir Beregovoy, the curator, editor and contributor of the journal, PADS International. The hardcover format is unabridged, with over 900 pages featuring color and black-and-white images throughout, making it an essential addition to any library on dog literature as well as an invaluable resource material. Get your copy now and join the conversation about the preservation of aboriginal dogs, their role in today’s world, breeding, and so much more.

The reference about colonization of laika types can be found here:
Popov, Aleksander V. “Hunting Laika” [PDF, 1.91 MB]. Journal of the International Society for Preservation of Primitive Aboriginal Dogs 31 (2012): 29 – 37. Retrieved March 2, 2024. Archived from the original on March 18, 2015 via Wayback Machine. Would put the screenshots up in the reblog post, but there are too many quotes to draw from and they are from different stages of Russian history. But yes, Moscow was (and continues to be) extremely paternalistic towards Indigenous peoples.
A majority of “indigenous dog breeds” are colonized in some way. Options include:
Given an arbitrary kennel club standard based on a limited population owned by aristocratic white people.
Stolen with their history completed rewritten and mythologized.
Created by white kennel club people and falsely attributed an indigenous past through breed myth.
Have their populations no longer under control of the population that made them in the first place.
Has its actual name replaced with a slur
“Breed split” where the actually indigenous dogs still owned by indigenous people have to go through meticulous trial and breeding to be accepted by the kennel club.
All of the above and more!

Forever quoting this:

— Bogatov, S.V. “Hunting For Profit Versus Hunting For Sport” [PDF, 910 kb]. Journal of the International Society for Preservation of Primitive Aboriginal Dogs 17 (2004): 29. Retrieved January 19, 2023. Archived from the original on January 19, 2023 via Wayback Machine. A lot of recreational hunters really don't understand the window of opportunity for commercial hunting (can be short as two weeks) is very short compared to sport hunting (can be half the year or most of the year).
speaking of working dogs. so many people can't tell apart a dog with correct working drive vs neurotic mess with no off switch. "my dog is soo drivey" your dog can't sit and do nothing for 5 minutes without chewing a hole in the wall.

Well, made it 350 days or 50 weeks until first estrus. A few weeks shy of her birthday on September 15. Was hoping to wait until February or March. Basal breeds [archived] such as laikas, tazis, taigans, desert-bred salukis, Central Asian shepherds etc typically take longer between 1 years old to 2.5 years [archived] old for their first season then once a year henceforth.
If you want to help with diapers, then feel free to contribute through PayPal.

Make no mistake. This sort of “euthanasia” is part of genocide over and over and over again.
First they will displace you. Then they will try to kill you. And when that’s not enough to destroy you the colonizers go after dogs/pets/culturally significant animals as a way of continuing to break moral.
“They’re just doing it to the aggressive ones, to the ones that can’t be adopted out!” You might argue. Know that always. ALWAYS in these situations the colonizer tries to spin dog/animal killings as some sort of necessary kindness. It’s almost never true. Just ask Canadian Inuit. The RCMP, who carried out the Inuit dog culls still maintain this was done specifically for medically necessary reasons. Canadian Inuit argue otherwise. Dog culls decreased moral, stripped communities of cultural touchstones, and prevented hunting and traveling traditions from being passed down (some Canadian Inuit today have to learn traditional dog sledding through YouTube vs from their own people due to lack of resources and stripped knowledge).
Inuit relationships to their dogs are culturally different than those in Palestine, but that does not make the culls of Palestinian dogs any less significant. The history of the registered Canaan dog breed, descended from captured Palestinian dog stock and then bred specifically by the Haganah to guard new Israeli settlements during the 1940s and 1950s with a breed standard made by Israelis should say enough. This is not the first time this has happened.
It is not enough to destroy people, families, babies, the landscape. They want to destroy it all.

Naru and Sarii (fan art)
Tumblr media
A quick sketch of Amber Midthunder's character from the 2022 movie Prey (plus her dog), that I did on a lazy Sunday night after binging a bunch of online content related to the Predator franchise.
It may be a prequel installment for an action-horror-scifi franchise, but Prey has some really darn good representation of Comanche culture, and I was particular enthralled by effort and attention-to-detail that was highlighted in interviews and behind-the-scenes videos I was consuming on YouTube. Producer Jhane Myers put a lot of creative work in to get things right, and I think it's great seeing that indigenous persons were for once exercising creative control of a movie about them.
Btw, I definitely dig Sarii the dog too :)
