HSE to target music festivals for harm reduction amid ‘worrying trends’ in drug use
HSE to target music festivals for harm reduction amid ‘worrying trends’ in drug use
HSE teams are targeting three music festivals this summer to spread harm reduction advice to drug users amid “very worrying trends” at the drugs in circulation. The first event is the Life dance music festival in Westmeath this weekend, followed by Indiependence in Mitchelstown, Cork, in July and a third event, yet to be determined, later in the summer. HSE bosses are particularly concerned at…

Rosh Ilyas is a 24 year old English Literature graduate. A daughter of South Asian immigrants, she was born and raised in North West London. During her childhood and teenage years, brown female role models were scarce, so she struggled with her identity for a long time.
Being the only female in her family’s generation was difficult, as well as being the only one to pursue a creative career. Her older male cousins and younger brother pursued maths and engineering; her father’s side tried to dissuade her from studying arts & humanities. A strong willed and passionate individual, this only spurred Rosh onwards. She went to Swansea University to study Literature, and also graduated with a Master’s in International Journalism in December 2019. Her experiences led her to discovering her main passion: encouraging diversity and inclusion in the British media, in particular, British South Asian women.
As a result of honing skilful writing abilities at university, Rosh aims to gain an entry level position where she can continue to write. In June, she began voluntarily contributing to the small website: The Indiependent. She loved writing music reviews, entertainment news pieces, and sharing her opinion on diversity matters. Also interested in Lifestyle, Rosh also created a blog under a pseudonym, where she covers beauty and skincare. Writing and editing pieces that would help improve diversity levels is one of her dreams. However, writing is only one possible career choice.
In February, Rosh found a talent behind the camera after taking a street style photography course with the Prince’s Trust. Her final photography piece was on display at Stratford Art Circus for a month, used with other pieces to promote the V&A Museum’s Fashion Festival. After joining Creativity Works in March, Rosh underestimated how much she would enjoy different aspects of the course. She loved all the different parts of creating content: brainstorming, researching ideas, filming and editing. After creating a podcast with other people on the course, Media Trust connected Rosh to a local radio station, Westside FM. She is now a News Announcer for Westside, recording bulletins to inform listeners about West London’s community news.
With no connections or visible pathways into the industry, Rosh never knew about the possible career choices available in media. As she continued on the course, her eyes were opened. Adopting her immigrant family’s work ethic, Rosh wants to continue refining abilities she gained on the course and excel at them.
Rosh knows that the media can change the world, and believes in its power to change society for the better. As there are so many possible routes into the industry, she wants to learn as much as she can, and find her future career path by doing so.
