#meetmychickenmonday - this is Hedwig. I have made a few posts about her since I've had her, but I wanted to do one today too. I have had chickens for over three years. I have been through every up and down imaginable. Hedwig is the only hen standing after moving 30 birds to my new house and losing them all to coyotes, foxes, and a neighbor's dog. I think the only reason she was spared is because she was broody. She decided to start sitting the day after the last three of her friends were killed, including a rooster. I let her keep 4 eggs. After 11 days, I candles them and sadly none were developing. A friend from the Indiana BYC forum had Silkie chicks available and I drove to Martinsville and brought home 4 partridge babies. It took her one night to decide she would mother them and man is she protective!
