"let us declare that the state of war does exist and shall exist so long as the indian toiling masses and the natural resources are being exploited by a handful of parasites. they may be purely british capitalist or mixed british and indian or even purely indian. they may be carrying on their insidious exploitation through mixed or even on purely Indian bureaucratic apparatus. all these things make no difference."
- Bhagat Singh
too many of you like bringing up revolutionaries to complain against the fact that today independence day is not worth celebrating to make your point without ever having read them. educate yourselves before you speak.

When will this change?
We woke up, instead, to a world where one step forward is ten steps back. Where it's freedom birthed a broken system. Where feminists are called crazy and men-haters.
A world whose slogan is "not all men" and "men will be men". Where women ask permission to exercise their fucking constitutional rights.
To a world with men who had a phd in chromosomes when they claimed a woman was a man but still beat their wives for birthing a girl.
Which says sex with his wife is a "man's right". That "a woman owes sex to her husband". A world where child marriage and dowry deaths are normal and a woman getting her fucking period is not.
We woke up to a country disappointing those who fought for its freedom.
That retold stories to excuse prejudice. And rewrote history to excuse its ignorance.
Where a woman is caged but her predator isn't.
That retold stories to excuse prejudice. That rewrote history to justify its ignorance.
Where women are taught how to avoid getting raped while men are taught it's a natural urge.
A world that's used to asking "What were you wearing" "Why didn't you fight back" and never saying "Don't Rape".
Of sporadic outrage over a rape case and forgetting it the next day.
A world where women still beg for their right to be left alone.
A world where women can't even sleep with a mind without fear, let alone wake up with one.
Which says feminism is unnecessary and while also saying "Let boys be boys"
Where you live knowing this is all a joke, it's just not funny.

Ram's Newspaper Clipping Easter Egg
While peering at Ram's diary I got distracted by the newspaper clippings to the side. Turns out it's a little easter egg, a clipping of the Times of India's headline page the day of India's independence on Friday August 15, 1947. Needless to say, it's an anachronism in a movie set in 1920, but a delightful one.

Cant decide if I feel disgusted or fearful for women in this country
A doctor was working a 36 hour shift at her hospital in Kolkata. She was resting in the seminar hall when she was raped and murdered. Her body was found naked, her legs at a right angle. It us impossible to have legs like this without breaking the hip girdle. She was bleeding all over with several injuries. Her glasses were crushed and her eyes bleeding. Semen found inside her body shows that it was a gang rape.
Her parents were called, they were told it was a suicide. They weren't allowed to see her for 3 hours. The principal of the college resigned immediately. He was appointed was principal in another neighboring hospital. The room beside the seminar hall was suddenly being renovated till students put a stop to it.
A doctor was working to save lives. This is what she gets. A woman was raped and killed in her workplace. Where are we supposed to feel safe?
Students are protesting and still no action is being taken.
