people are using the âlearn to separate fiction and realityâ to justify genshinâs and more specifically hoyoverseâs racism and whitewashing of african cultures and. well. i canât say iâm even a little bit surprised.

Headcanons I shared on twt that Iâd like to share here âșïž (from 2023 to now):
Margoâs a 3D digital artist, Miles is more traditional, & Hobie likes to tailor his own clothes. They have days where they all occupied a single room and work silently together with music/a movie in the background.
Broke: Jefferson doesnât like Hobie cuz his laces/punk, Woke: Jefferson likes Hobie cause he reminds him of Aaron.
Jefferson knows what itâs like to live in a tough environment. Does he approve of the things Aaron & Hobieâs done? No. Does he understand it? Yes! And heâll be damned if he lets Hobie handled it on his own now that he knows about him đ€
And if I said Rio AND Jeff ask about Hobie all the time to Miles?? And if I said theyâd tell him to invite him to the rooftop cookouts hM?? And if I said Rio & Jeff were the type of parents to always including any form of family gatherings with Hobie in mind, HMM?!
If Aaron was still alive, he would have loved Hobie.
Manifests in your mind Karl throwing Hobie over his shoulders and spinning him around really fast as they laugh.
Hobieâs the type to hold up & play music from a boombox outside Miles window to serenade him at 3 am. Jefferson from his window telling him to go home, Hobie cranks the boombox louder.
CyberPunkFlower hc: Margo & Hobie both being nervous to meet Miles parents and get surprised when Rio & Jefferson hug them at the front door (Especially from Jefferson who held both of them tightly in his hug) Miles had talked so fondly about his partners to his parents. He even explained how they both helped him escape the SS. Rio & Jefferson loved them before they even walked through their door.
CyberPunkFlower thought: Margo & Hobie being overwhelmed with how opening loving & supporting Milesâ parents are to them. Theyâve both had a one to one moment with Rio/Jefferson that solidified that feeling of âYouâre always welcomed in our homeâ. Margo being quick to accept their affection/attention vs Hobie being standoffish cuz heâs not used to this kind of positive adult/parental presents. Over time & some patience heâll be accepting/used to it.
My singing voice hc for Hobie is Bakar (listen to his song Dracula đ€đ)
PunkFlower/Morales Family thought: Hobie, bruised/roughed up from a battle, hoppinâ in to Miles universes to relax with him only to realize: 1. Heâs not home & 2. Rioâs the only one home. Cut to Rio hovering over to Hobie & being worried about his injuries. Rio tends to his wounds (even after Hobie explains his quick healing). As Rioâs wrapping him up she talks about how much her son speaks so fondly about Hobie. Tell him embarrassing stories about her boy. Fun little conversations that will come back and haunt Miles lol.
GoldenPunkFlowerByte thoughts: Pavitr trying to help Rio in the kitchen, Miles preventing Hobie from stealing bites out of the pots, Margo talking with Jefferson and playing with Billie.
Hobieâs spiderband are the type to give each other tattoos. They give each other a heart tattoo đđ©·đđđâ€ïž
Hobieâs the type to bring flowers for Rio & Jefferson when heâs taking Miles out on a date.
GoldenPunkFlowerByte: Pavitr, despite his size, is always the big spoon (He will jump if he has to hold Miles & Hobie) My guy loves to bury his face in his partners shoulders. He loves playing with the loose strands of Margoâs hair while sheâs coding.
I really like the idea of not only Milesâ family meeting Hobie but also the Morales meeting Hobieâs SpiderBand cuz thatâs his family. He grew up homeless & his band means the world to him. Rio & Jefferson would love this goofy bunch of misfits.
Hobie making Rio a dimensional phone cuz she âwanted to call and check up on you & your friends, Flaquito!â
To end it off: Before anyone comes here and says âHobieâs an adultâ pleases read these =
Tho Hobie does not have a confirmed age, he's been described most times as a teenager from 16-17 year old (I see him as 16)

Just an update about my GaaLee Alien!AU fanfic Falling Fast Through Fragmented Universes:
Iâve finished the second to last part of the chapter that was really important to the story! Only the last section is left to write and you all have a bunch of mini fics in one chapter to read through, nearing 9k words.
Thank you for your patience. It has taken a lot of planning to get to this point in the fic as it creates a lot of really fun setup for the main adventure! đ€©đ„°
Here are some goodies you all, including story title reveals and a short snippet under the cut that Iâm very happy with!
[Sidenote: Reblogging helps to share and support this project. This stops my hours of hard work from dying in your likes, letâs others enjoy it, and motivates me to draw and write more of this AU! <3]
3x story title reveals:
âą Nightjar
âą Pink Pumpkin Party
âą Nejiâs Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day
Snippet time: Nightjar
Holocene [Human] Era calendar year: 12,024. Beijing, China. 7:00PM.
Lee has an eyemask that when freshly washed and dried atop his boiler in the airing cupboard, is warm and soft and comfortable over Gaaraâs eyes. The darkness underneath is all-encompassing, and the early evening hour means that the volume of the TV does not have to be turned down just yet. Lee had shown him how to use something called a YouTube on a whim before he left for work.
Currently Gaara was being swaddled by the music of a desert ambience video at dusk. Rushing wind and the harsh cries of birds settling down to sleep, shrieking owls, and the scuttling of animals over shifting sand, all greeted his ears like a gentle, familial kiss on the cheek.
Gaara could almost smell the sun-baked aridisol; herbal and dusty. Could feel the particles suspended within the air drying and coating his tongue, and the brisk, freezing temperature drop as the sun dipped below canyon walls. The electromagnetic pull within the softness of sand spilling between his fingertips like water.
It did not feel like an oasis when he was living on his home planet. Gaara was brought forth into his world through blood and through pain, and buried in his bones the old songs of his childhood were waking around him, as the desert came alive at night.
Homesickness floored him with longing so intense that it built as a deep ache in his chest. A raw, still-healing wound prying itself open and clutching at his throat with a sudden, choking despair that took his breath away.
It hurts.
It hurts in its nostalgia, in the knowledge that he will not be able to return to the chattering, trilling, howling environment of which he was born into. At least, not for now. Not for the foreseeable future, not unless heâs careful, but the risk is still too dire, too soon to act upon.
A familiar pressure awoke behind his eyes, shifted in his guts as Shukaku stirred within the embrace of his memories. Gaara could almost imagine it raising its head, sniffing at the air in confusion. His nerves fizzled with anticipation and he held bated breath, before it stretched out sharp, pawed feet and rolled over to settle back down into a deep and dreamless sleep.
Gaara was suddenly made aware of how lonely he felt. He half-expected the tears that welled, creating a film behind his eyelids, to dry out as he opened them, athough the material of the mask ruined the illusion just a little.
He misses his siblings, he misses the biome of his home, he misses his Sand with a soul-deep loss and desperation that he had only ever experienced as a grieving child, and then again in his late teenage years. Aside from the few essential items he possessed, his clothing and the book he carried in his small satchel, his Sand was the only truly meaningful thing that he had left from his homeworld.
He had carried it throughout his entire life.
And now it is gone.
In theory, he could create more. If he were to venture downstairs and cause some small amount of destruction, limited to whatever soil or stone was available from the reach of the main entrance of this block of flats. But it wouldnât be the same. It wouldnât smell of home; of clay and blood and iron, the minerals and dust of creatures long dead and eroded away, by the elements or by his own hand.

Neat little interview with Arai Sumiko.
(Bad MTL below the cut. Especially note already nuanced love talk in the original language further removed by MTL)
ââ What was the idea for the story of two girls, Mitsuki and Aya?
I've always wanted to draw a story between girls. I also like the story of two people from opposite worlds with gaps, and I think that's where I came up with the idea. I love to draw, and I used to post things like two-page comics with no dialogue on social media from time to time. I thought that if there were no lines, it would be easier for people overseas to spread the word, and even if they didn't understand Japanese, they would enjoy it. One of them is the source of ăæ°ă«ăȘăŁăŠăäșșăç·ăăăȘăăŁăă.
ââăæ°ă«ăȘăŁăŠăäșșăç·ăăăȘăăŁăă received a great response when it was announced, and now Arai's X has more than 1 million followers. Was the announcement on social media also due to the ease of communication overseas that you just mentioned?
I didn't think it would be like this, so I didn't think too much about it (laughs). I was very happy to be able to connect with people from overseas through SNS. There was a time when I lived abroad, so I feel that spending time in a completely different environment has made me who I am today. Perhaps, the number of stories between women in the world is not as large as that of love stories between men and women, or between men, so it may have been suitable for social media.
ââ Why did you want to depict the relationship between two girls?
I think the relationship between women is very intimate. That feeling when we got really closeâŠâŠ They wear matching clothes, listen to the same music, and spend hours together without talking. It's not like love, it's a love that has always been there. Isn't love over when you break up? I have a bit of a prejudice in me, and I want to draw something that transcends it. If we can be together even if we don't have a relationship title, I think that's love. I'm sorry, it's hard to understand.
ââ I've always longed for a relationship that can't be named, or a relationship where it's just two people, so I feel like I understand it.
We all have a lonely part and loneliness that we can't share with others. Especially when you're young, everyone has a lot of different feelings. However, I think that if I can create an existence that resonates with such a soft part of my heart, it will last a lifetime.
ââ How did you come up with the character of Mitsuki, who was thought to be mysterious older brother, but was a cool girl? It's completely my preference, but I love people who are women but can see the masculineness, so I created the character of Mitsuki from there. What if a sober girl actually has a tattoo? And such? I also wanted to depict her kindness. Mitsuki is unconscious, but she is naturally compassionate.
ââ Handsome and gentle, isn't it? As a way of depicting sexuality, the feeling that the existence of the person is affirmed as it is, including the fact that she is a woman, is conveyed from the drawing, and it is exciting.
Thank you. I'm happy because I'm particular about the shape of Mitsuki's slightly bony wrist line, fingers, and nails. There are parts of the picture in Volume 1 that make me think, "Wow" when I reread it now, but I did my best to make Mitsuki's expression when she tells Aya that she wants to be friends. From the time of the name, I drew a lot of facial expressions (laughs). I've improved a bit at drawing, so I've been drawing a lot lately, and I think I'm good at it a lot.
ââ It's a memorable scene where the two become friends at school.
I love the American TV drama "Glee" (a music-comedy-drama about a high school choir where minorities gather), and I grew up watching that show. I was moved by the story of a sparkling person who seems to have everything, but in fact has emotions that cannot be told to others, so I wanted to draw it myself. Aya has that element in it. Aya is feminine on the outside, but she is shy. When it comes to other people, she's the kind of girl with a lot of grit who confronts her with a "huh?"
ââ In the second volume, the individuality of each of them became more apparent.
Mitsuki hides herself at school, but the way she hides her personality is actually very attractive. It's fun to depict how talking to Aya brings out more and more of her true self at school.
ââIt's so nice to be the most yourself when you're with the people you love. Being able to be yourself means having confidence in yourself. By not worrying about what people think, you will be able to see what you care about and the right person for you. Like Mitsuki brought Aya closer. The person who is most saved by being dignified is yourself. That's why I want to value my own individuality, and I draw manga with the hope that I will be able to do so.
ââ Music is also an important element of this manga. It is colored in two colors, yellow-green and black, which are rare in manga, and when I first read it, I thought it was rock.
Actually, I chose yellow-green 15 minutes before the first episode was posted on social media (laughs). I didn't think it would go viral, and I thought it would be nice to have a rock feel and a slightly dangerous color, so I put it in on a whim. That Last Minute Decision (the last minute decision) may have been a good one.
ââ NIRVANA and other music are featured in the film, but what is Arai's own musical journey?
When I was little, I loved BECK's album "Guero" the most in the world, and I remember dancing to it at my father's office. That's where my love for rock music started. NIRVANA's music is exceptional, but I also sympathize with frontman Kurt Cobain's feminism and pushing the boundaries of gender. I was an only child, so I spent a lot of time alone, and I moved to a place where I didn't speak the language, so I feel like I was able to cultivate my imagination while filling in the silence with music.
ââEven in ăæ°ă«ăȘăŁăŠăäșșăç·ăăăȘăăŁă ă the music connects the completely different worlds of Mitsuki and Aya and expands them even further.
Let's see. The last scene of Volume 2 is very memorable for me. Aya stops Mitsuki from getting off the pedestrian bridge that can be taken as a stage, but I think it's a friend, and I think it's love. There's also a love for the music that Mitsuki makes.
ââ "This song connects the world!!" I was also fascinated by the straight line. Is there anything you keep in mind when drawing music?
In my case, I'm completely self-satisfied and just put in the music I like, and I can't say anything admirable, but I think a lot about which songs go well with each scene. There are scenes made from music, and the scene where Aya and Mitsuki hold hands in Volume 2 came to mind when I was listening to The Shins.
ââOfficial playlist But it's also fun to read while actually playing music.
I'm a little embarrassed because I choose it myself (laughs), but I'm happy. I didn't tell anyone, but the official playlist is trying to arrange the songs that Mitsuki and Aya each chose so that they alternate as much as possible. Of course, the flow of music is the most important priority.
ââKnowing that changes the way you listen even more! I'm looking forward to seeing what the future holds for them. Thank you very much.

books i read in 2024:
"catherine house"
elisabeth tomas
rating: âïžâïžâïž
genre: gothic, mystery, thriller
synopsis:
A story about a dangerously curious young undergraduate whose rebelliousness leads her to discover a shocking secret involving an exclusive circle of students . . . and the dark truth beneath her schoolâs promise of prestige.
You are in the house and the house is in the woods.
You are in the house and the house is in you . . .
Catherine House is a school of higher learning like no other. Hidden deep in the woods of rural Pennsylvania, this crucible of reformist liberal arts study with its experimental curriculum, wildly selective admissions policy, and formidable endowment, has produced some of the worldâs best minds: prize-winning authors, artists, inventors, Supreme Court justices, presidents. For those lucky few selected, tuition, room, and board are free. But acceptance comes with a price. Students are required to give the House three yearsâsummers includedâcompletely removed from the outside world. Family, friends, television, music, even their clothing must be left behind. In return, the school promises its graduates a future of sublime power and prestige, and that they can become anything or anyone they desire.
Among this yearâs incoming class is Ines, who expects to trade blurry nights of parties, pills, cruel friends, and dangerous men for rigorous intellectual disciplineâonly to discover an environment of sanctioned revelry. The schoolâs enigmatic director, ViktĂłria, encourages the students to explore, to expand their minds, to find themselves and their place within the formidable black iron gates of Catherine.
For Ines, Catherine is the closest thing to a home sheâs ever had, and her serious, timid roommate, Baby, soon becomes an unlikely friend. Yet the Houseâs strange protocols make this refuge, with its worn velvet and weathered leather, feel increasingly like a gilded prison. And when Babyâs obsessive desire for acceptance ends in tragedy, Ines begins to suspect that the schoolâin all its shabby splendor, hallowed history, advanced theories, and controlled decadenceâmight be hiding a dangerous agenda that is connected to a secretive, tightly knit group of students selected to study its most promising and mysterious curriculum.

â GET INSIDE YOUR CHARACTER'S HEAD! aka The Excessively Detailed Headcanon Meme (MADE BY: @not-just-a-letter )
Not all questions will be the same, because I translated it into my own language and then back into Englishđ Enjoyđ
2) Daily routine!
Dark gets up at about 8, goes to the
kitchen to make some tea, takes it back to the room and drinks it. Meanwhile, he spends half an hour playing chess online.
-At 9 o'clock he makes his bed, brushes his teeth, gets dressed and helps with the investigation online/goes to the crime scene.
12:00 p.m. He takes a lunch break at work, and usually makes his own lunch.
-At 1 p.m. Take a short break talking to L
He continues to work on the Kira case from 1
p.m. to 9 p.m
He gets home at 9:00 p.m., changes his clothes and sits down in his room to meditate so as not to be overwhelmed at work.
- He has dinner at 21:30
- From 21:50 to 22:30 he plays chess again.
-He showers until 22:40-23:00
- He sleeps at 23:30
3) Do they exercise, and if so, what do they do? How often?
Not really, sometimes he does some stretching exercises when his back hurts. However, he especially likes to play tennis.
4 ) What would they do if they needed to make dinner but the kitchen was busy?
He probably wouldn't even dare to approach the kitchen. He would wait quietly in his room for them to go out. If his family members are there, he actually goes in, but he just stands and waits patiently for them to finish their part.
5 ) Cleanliness habits (personal, kitchen was busy? workspace, etc.)
His room is generally fine. He compulsively cleans it because he once read that he will feel more relaxed in a cleaner environment. If there is something he doesn't use (e.q. a glass), he immediately takes it out after him. Wash it after cookina. If he were to vomit, he immediately wipes it away and sprays his room with perfume.
6 ) Eating habits and sample daily menu
Dark often eats rice or fish that are less oily/greasy. He eats less meat as it often makes him sick. He especially likes traditional Japanese food, cinnamon, crackers ,and broccoli. He also likes to eat licorice but he always forgets that it makes him vomit.
7 ) Favorite way to waste time and feelings surrounding wasting time
He usually plays chess online, but L also often invites him to play chess online and live, because he knows that he likes it. He also often bakes cookies and listens to music. He enjoys talking with L and his family.
8 ) Favorite indulgence and feelings surrounding indulging
Various chessboards, empty notebooks, so that most of them have not vet been filled. Too many essential oils, incense, or similar items needed for meditation. He buys so many of these because he is afraid that they will run out suddenly, but in reality there is always just too much.
9 ) Makeup?
Basically, he doesnât wear makeup.
10 ) Neuroses? Do they recognize them as such?
Obviously!
11 ) Favorite book genre?
Crime fiction/detective story

20 ) Childhood illnesses? Any interesting stories behind them?
He probably had asthma.

Dark will be a little cheerful if someone comforts him a little physically if he is frustrated.
In contrast, it shuts down completely when it is around people.
22 ) Given a blank piece of paper, pencil, and nothing to do, what would happen?
He would write down an unlearned recipe on it / maybe write down the most important information about the investigation.

Dark is a very thorough and organized person. He thinks everything through logically, he doesn't talk unnecessarily. Extremely organized.
24 ) Is there one subject of study that they excel at? Or do they even care about intellectual pursuits at all?

25 ) How do they see themselves 5 years from today?
Dark does not focus on what will happen in the future. It deals with the present to contribute to the future.
26 ) Do they have any plans for the future? Any contingency plans if things don't work out?
Nothing special, he just want to be calmer. And if they don't allow Him to work for the police anymore, then His emergency plan would be to work as a confectioner.
27 ) What is their biggest regret?
That in the Justice case, when Nico said that Nadim was replaced, Dark claimed that it wasn't true, that Nico was just crazy. When he found out that he had indeed been replaced, he was deeply saddened.

Dark usually makes decisions using logic and is less concerned with his feelings even if he knows it will be bad for him.
38 ) What recharges them when they're feeling drained?
He listens to music or simply puts on headphones to drown out the noise. Possibly meditation or any breathing exercise.
39 ) Would you say that they have a superiority-complex? Inferiority complex? Neither?

Dark likes to be patient with him and wait for him to dare to communicate with them. He likes the other person to be a little attentive, but not overly so. On the outside, He likes it when someone has black eyes because he thinks it's cute.
47) How do they express love?
He does their favors (e.g. cooks Their food, brings them things), sometimes physically touches them if theyâre okay with it (gives them hugs, kisses, etc.

Cultures-Feel Authentic?....
Here's how to create it in your novel.
Do you ever found yourself stuck trying to write a culture that doesnât feel like a hollow stereotype or a generic copy-paste of something real-world
So, Worldbuilders, gather aroundâthis oneâs for you
The secret to creating cultures that breathe, and feel authentic lies in the details. Not just the big, flashy traditions or the language quirks, but the small, everyday things that make your fictional societies feel lived-in.
Hereâs how you can build a culture readers believe in.
Save the Image for later!
1. Start with Core Values
Every culture has guiding principles, even if theyâre unspoken.
What do your people hold sacred?
What shapes their worldview?
This will influence everythingâfrom how they greet each other to how they treat outsiders.
For example: A seafaring culture might prioritize adaptability, resourcefulness, and a deep reverence for the ocean. That reverence could show up in art, myths, or even how they handle death (e.g., burial at sea).
2. Create Language Nuances
You donât need to invent an entire language (looking at you, Tolkien), but small linguistic quirks can make a culture feel unique.
Think idioms, greetings, and the way they structure sentences.
Here are some ideas for you:
How do they say âhelloâ?
Maybe itâs tied to their environment, like âMay the sun warm your pathâ for a desert culture.
What metaphors do they use?
A farming society might describe success as âa good harvest.âDo they avoid certain words or phrases for cultural reasons?
Notice this Dialogueđ
âThe sky is open today,â said Arin. (Translation: Itâs a clear, lucky day.)âOpen skies bring storms,â replied Tella, her tone wary. (Translation: Luck always comes with a price.)
3. Build a History That Shaped Them
Cultures donât appear out of nowhere. Theyâre shaped by historyâwars, alliances, migrations, natural disasters, or even the rise and fall of rulers.
Think About:
What major events defined their identity?
Have they been conquered or colonized?
Did they adapt to a harsh environment, like tundras or jungles?
Tip: Use history to explain quirks. Maybe a culture values silence because a historical betrayal involved a spy overhearing too much.
4. Pay Attention to Everyday Life
Big festivals and ceremonies are cool, but what about the small stuff?
What do they eat, wear, and do on a regular Tuesday?
These mundane details are where authenticity shines.
You should consider theseđ
Whatâs breakfast they like? Is it communal? Fast and efficient? Nonexistent? How do they spend free time? Are there games, music, or crafts unique to them?Whatâs their fashion? Is it practical, symbolic, or status-based?
For Example
In a mountain culture, clothing might include bright colors to stand out against snowy landscapesâboth for beauty and safety.
5. Develop Social Hierarchies
Who holds power, and how is it distributed?
Whether itâs a monarchy, democracy, or clan-based leadership, your cultureâs hierarchy will influence how people interact.
Ask Questions likeđ
Is power based on birth, skill, or something else? How do people show respect to authority? Are there any taboos that cross social boundaries?
For Example
A society where storytellers are revered might have rituals where only they are allowed to speak during meals to make sure their stories are passed down uninterrupted
6. Create Unique Belief Systems
Religion or philosophy often forms the backbone of culture. It doesnât have to be about godsâit could be a deep connection to nature, ancestors, or even a concept like balance or chaos.
Some of the Key Details are:
What do they worship, if anything?Do they have rituals, prayers, or sacred symbols? What happens when someone breaks a spiritual or cultural rule?
For Example
In a forest-based culture, cutting down a tree might be seen as murder, requiring a formal apology to the forest spirits and a ceremony to plant a new sapling.
7. Avoid Stereotypes
One-dimensional cultures are boring and problematic. Avoid creating an entire society that revolves around a single gimmick (e.g., âThese people all love warâ).
Real cultures are complex and often contradictory.
Here's How to Add Depthđ
You can mix opposites like " A militaristic society could also be deeply artistic".
Show disagreements to show!
Not everyone in a culture thinks the same way.
Also you should add layersđ
A practice might mean one thing to the upper class and something else to the lower class.
8. Test it Through a Characterâs Eyes
The best way to make your culture feel real is
"Live in it through your characters"
Show how they interact with it dailyâwhat they love, what they resent, and how it shapes their identity.
Example Character Thoughts:
âEvery year, we dance around the fire to honor the ancestors. I wonder if they ever felt as trapped as I do now.â
âGrandfather says the old gods died with the mountains, but I still leave offerings in the river when no one is watching.â
9. Reflect the Culture in Conflict
Cultural values often show their true colors during conflict.
What happens when someone breaks a rule?
How do they treat outsiders?
Do they resolve disputes with duels, courts, or mediation?
Example:If a culture values hospitality above all else, what happens when a guest breaks the rules? Maybe banishment, or a public apology ceremony.
10. Donât Overload Your Readers
You might have pages of notes on your culture, but donât info-dump. Sprinkle in details naturally, like through dialogue, descriptions, or character actions.
Let readers discover the culture as they go.
The goal isnât to impress readers with how much youâve builtâitâs to make them feel like theyâre stepping into a living, breathing world.
Cultures that feel authentic arenât perfect, neat, or static. Theyâre messy, complex, and evolvingâjust like real ones.

Gat Wesson: Pomonaâs Rising Star Blending Realness and Party Vibes
Emerging from the city of Pomona, California, Gat Wesson is a rapper with a story to tell. Grounded in his upbringing and driven by his passion for music, Gat Wesson crafts tracks that reflect his life, his environment, and the experiences of those around him. With his latest single, âSee Me,â Gat is proving why heâs a name to watch in the ever-evolving world of hip-hop.
Born From Experience
For Gat Wesson, music isnât just a craftâitâs a mirror of his life. âAny project or song I lay down is based either on the life I live or a moment Iâve experienced or seen my people go through,â he says. Growing up in Pomona, his surroundings shaped not only his content but also his drive to create music that resonates.
His love for music began at 15, inspired by a scene in Training Day featuring a Dr. Dre instrumental. âIt was the first time Iâd heard a beat without lyrics,â he recalls. From that moment, he was hooked, diving into beats and eventually penning his first song.
The Story Behind the Name
Gat Wessonâs name is a nod to his beginnings and the energy he brings to the mic. âPeople would tell me, âYo, my boy, you shot that!â or âYou be shooting that shit on the mic.â Thatâs where âGatâ came from,â he explains. The âWessonâ was added as a creative spin, inspired by the iconic Smith & Wesson brand, symbolizing precision and impact.
Crafting âSee Meâ
Gat Wessonâs latest single, âSee Me,â is all about fun and energy. âI wanted to create something fans and the audience could turn up and vibe to,â he shares. The track came together effortlessly when an acquaintance sent him a beat pack. âAs soon as I heard the beat, I knew what I was about to do,â he adds.
The music video for âSee Meâ captures the lively essence of the song. Shot in downtown Pomona, the video features a memorable moment when the DJ played the track for a live crowd at a club. âThe crowd was really feeling it in a real wayâthat, for me, was the best moment,â he says.
Influences and Evolution
Gat Wessonâs music is shaped by both legendary and contemporary artists. âTupac was one of the first artists I listened to, and Lil Wayne has also been a huge influence,â he says. Modern inspirations include Bravo the Bag Chaser, MoneySign Suede, Lil Pete, and Lil Maru. These artists, alongside his daily life experiences, help shape the sound and content of his music.
While Gat is firmly rooted in rap, heâs eager to explore singing and melodies in his future projects. âItâs something Iâve always wanted to try,â he reveals.
The Bigger Picture
Gat Wesson isnât just about making hitsâheâs about building a legacy. âMusic doesnât always have to be serious; sometimes you can just have fun with it,â he says. But heâs also focused on creating a lasting impact. âItâs not about numbers but the mark and legacy you leave behind.â
Short-term, Gat is focused on building a larger fan base and performing live. Long-term, he dreams of starting his own record label and influencing the next generation of artists. âIn five years, I hope to be selling out shows, going on tours, and maybe even starting a clothing line,â he says.
Advice to Aspiring Artists
For those looking to follow in his footsteps, Gat Wesson has one clear message: âKeep pushing and donât let your failures discourage you. Use them as motivation. Youâre going to go through moments where you feel like giving up, but put in the work, and your time will come!â
Whatâs Next?
Fans can expect more from Gat Wesson in the near future. With a vault full of content and a hunger for collaboration, heâs ready to make waves. âYouâre definitely going to see a lot more music and collabs,â he promises.
Gat Wesson is a testament to the power of perseverance, authenticity, and staying true to your roots. With âSee Meâ setting the tone, the future looks bright for this Pomona native.

Last Monday of the Week 2023-07-03
There's situations but I'm handling it and everything will be fine
Listening: Missed the latest song from We Kill Cowboys, Pink Codeine. I love We Kill Cowboys but they do most of their music live and release albums almost never, and even when I still lived in South Africa they mostly play around Cape Town, so I have not heard much of their new shit barring what lands up online.
youtube
They changed labels to Mongrel Records recently. Mongrel handles a lot of the heavy rock stuff around ZA, some good bands including Acid Magus, Springbok Nude Girls, All This For Nothing, and Ruff Majik.
Reading: Kaiju Preservation Society, sci-fi fluff from Scalzi. A guy down on his luck during The COVID gets recruited to go along as grunt labour on a scientific expedition to parallel universe Greenland, where there are giant kaiju roaming around in tropical forest.
Very loose spec bio that is nonetheless fun to read about, Kaiju are giant nuclear-powered walking biomes covered in various parasites, commensalists, and mutualists that scour the nearby area for food and give some to the Kaiju in exchange for mobility and protection. Like if mycorhizzal fungi were wolves.
At its best it is a light workplace comedy on a research base, and a moderate action romp. There is a story but it's not anything special. It is fun that our Protagonist has a literature masters and is there mostly to move heavy objects. I enjoy the feeling behind scientific expedition living and I'm still a little bitter about not getting on the Antarctic expedition so I enjoy reading stories about similar environments.
Very much "I wrote this in COVID when all I could think about was COVID and I wanted to imagine a guy for whom pretty much everything goes okay." I enjoyed it enough, with modern sci-fi style snark and snappy one liners.
Watching: Nothing, fell behind on the Fast and Furious watch because it's hard to write about #4, since it's just #1 again.
Also assembling a bunch of Ikea furniture, I have a home office desk now and more than the bare minimum space to stash clothing. In a month or two I'll also have a desktop computer, but that's future me problems.
Making: Made bread as part of what will hopefully be an ongoing project to improve my breadmaking. I can almost always make something vaguely serviceable but it's always pretty random whether I can get bread to behave the way I want it to.
Playing: Also very little, did another bonus level or two in Terra Nil. The challenges are much more interesting in the bonus levels, they force you to consider some much longer view tasks like "leave enough low lying soil intact for wetlands" and "manage river access for your cleanup" but still not too challenging on normal mode.
Tools and Equipment: When I was choosing a kettle I insisted on one that had a minimum boil volume of no more than 500ml, the one my parents have has a rated minimum of 800ml which is positively wasteful when I mostly boil a single cup for tea. Anyway the one I got has a 250ml minimum boil which is so good. You can do one cup of tea and drain it basically dry. Winning. Great for my sense of accomplishment.

The Crips, a street gang that originated in Los Angeles in the late 1960s, has often been characterized by their muscular presence and formidable reputation. Known for their distinctive blue colors, the gang has cultivated an image that combines strength and unity. Members often engage in rigorous physical training, which contributes to their muscular physiques. This dedication to fitness not only enhances their physical prowess but also fosters a sense of camaraderie among members, creating a brotherhood that is both intimidating and supportive.
Financially, the Crips have established themselves as one of the wealthiest gangs in the world. Their operations span various illicit activities, including drug trafficking, extortion, and other criminal enterprises. This financial success has allowed them to accumulate significant resources, enabling members to invest in businesses and properties. The wealth generated by the gang has also facilitated a lifestyle that includes luxury cars, designer clothing, and extravagant parties, further solidifying their status as a powerful entity within the criminal underworld.
Despite their notorious reputation, the Crips also have a romantic side that is often overlooked. Members of the gang often express deep loyalty and love for their families and partners. The bonds formed within the gang extend beyond mere criminal affiliations; they encompass a sense of belonging and emotional support. This loyalty can manifest in grand gestures of love, from celebrating anniversaries with lavish gifts to organizing community events that uplift their neighborhoods.
The romanticism of the Crips can also be seen in their music and culture. Hip-hop, which has roots in the gang's history, often features themes of love, struggle, and resilience. Many artists associated with the Crips use their platforms to share stories of romance intertwined with their experiences, highlighting the complexities of love in a challenging environment. This artistic expression adds a layer of depth to the gang's identity, showcasing that beneath the tough exterior lies a rich tapestry of emotions and relationships.
Moreover, the Crips have been known to engage in community outreach and support initiatives. While their methods may be controversial, their efforts to provide for their neighborhoods often include acts of kindness and charity. Members may organize events to give back to the community, such as back-to-school drives or holiday celebrations. These actions can be seen as a way to balance their reputation with a desire to foster love and support within their communities, demonstrating that even those with a rough exterior can have a heart.
In conclusion, the Crips embody a unique blend of muscular strength, financial wealth, and romantic ideals. While their reputation is often marred by violence and crime, the deeper connections formed within the gang reveal a complex narrative of loyalty, love, and community. Their influence on culture, particularly through music and community engagement, showcases a multifaceted identity that transcends stereotypes, reminding us that even the most formidable figures can possess a romantic side.

Blog Post 3: Representation and Simulation in Games
In this article, I will try to explore the roles of representation and simulation in digital media and use a Taiwanese game called Detention (2017) as a case study. Detention showcases how representation and simulation can create historical events and authentic depictions of the atmosphere of Taiwanâs White Terror Period in a virtual environment.
With digital media everywhere, concepts like representation and simulation are all around us. Whether interpreting existing ideas or through recreating realistic situations, these tools increase immersion in media and engage users deeper in the content.Â
As Stuart Hall explains in Representation: Cultural Representations and Signifying Practices (1997), representation refers to the way cultural groups use language and other media, including images or recordings, to create meaning. Stuart Hall argues that ideas like race or ideology are reinterpreted through media to reflect the creatorâs background or mindset. Therefore, representations may not always objectively present accurate history or places. In other words, even though representation can help audiences emotionally connect with media content, this technique can not necessarily portray well-rounded or objective details.
On the other hand, simulation follows a different path. According to Jean Baudrillardâs Simulacra and Simulation (1981), reality has been overtaken by symbols and signs, which makes our experiences simulations of reality. In this framework, media, which acts as the intermediary, converts reality into hyperreality with the symbols it provides. In a broader sense, we live in a world shaped by simulated experiences. In the narrower perspective, within games and movies, simulation enhances immersion by creating experiences inspired by real or imagined objects, elements, events, or processes without reinterpreting by the creators.
Case Study: Representation in Detention (2017)
The purpose of representation is to interpret and depict reality or ideology through language, imagery, and other media. In Detention, representation is primarily showcased through character design and environmental setting as it captures the repressive vibe of the White Terror era in Taiwan. The gameâs background is set in a 1960s school under martial law, and game visuals and props incorporate Taiwanese culture and beliefs. Players control Fang Ray Shin as she uncovers the haunting secrets of herself and the school she is trapped in. The game combines a school setting with elements of Taiwanese beliefs, showing religious props like spirits, talismans, and government figures that symbolized the repression of thought during Taiwanâs White Terror Period. In addition, props such as the portrait of Sun Yat Sen in the school auditorium, and special character designs (such as traditional uniforms, military clothing, and shoulder-length-restricted hairstyles) reflect the social atmosphere of the time. Based on Stuart Hallâs theories, these representations donât aim for objectivity, which also aligns with the creatorsâ intention. Even though there are lots of period-specific items or religious props, the game does not point out any specific period or place of the event (also, none of the characters truly exist in reality, nor did the story itself happen) to make the theme of political repression transcends time and place, suggesting such oppression arise in any society.
Case Study: Simulation in Detention (2017)
Detention also uses simulation to evoke an emotional experience for players mostly through music and atmospheric design. The gameâs music selection includes Taiwanese songs that were banned during the White Terror Era, like compositions by Deng Yu-Hsian such as Red in the Four Seasons, Sorrow in the Rainy Night, and Yearning in the Spring Breeze. The use of common instruments in Taiwanese old songs like suona also evokes the feeling of solemnity and oppression. Furthermore, as players explore the schoolâs hallways, unsettling sounds such as the creaking of rusted doors and the use of light and shadow create a sense of isolation. The game design team recreates the unique vibe of the martial law era as authentically as possible to immerse the players in the same fear and repression experienced by people living through that time.
youtube
In summary, both representation and simulation play critical roles in digital media and contribute to shaping society. Through the study of Detention, we see how these techniques allow players to experience a realistic/hyper-realistic environment. Even as a 2D game, Detention uses historical simulations to immerse players in the fear and oppression of that era, and it achieves an emotional resonance that is both impactful and horrifying.
For me, representation is an effective way to merge my creativity with my interests, unique perspectives, and cultural background. I use this technique in concept art to interpret reality or craft fantasy worlds. Unfortunately, I have yet to explore simulation, but I hope to one day use it to recreate my hometown, sharing Taiwanese culture with a broader audience.
