this is basically a deleted scene from a wip that's still happening, which is probably negative points in the liminal space column, but it kind of came about from a question i've got about demon feeding habits...??

basically, i'm wondering if demons can feed off feelings that they entirely manufacture, or if there's some sort of nutritional difference between those and feelings that humans have independently. if a demon manipulates a human to feel happy, for instance, and then feeds off of that feeling of happiness, will it be as nutritious/taste as good as if that human had felt that feeling all on their own?

or, in short: vega and warden have breakfast in bed. it's horribly, and i do mean horribly, domestic 🥰🥰

It's important to note, while particular kinds of demons will often share similar personality traits, those aren't uniform. And a demon that feeds on a particular kind of emotion doesn't have to be inherently representative of it. Sadism Demons don't have to be cruel. Empathy daemons don't have to be kind. While some choose to amplify their particular food source of emotion in a person, they can actually absorb that emotion from them instead and help relieve a person of it, if they wish. Just like humans, demons come with all sorts of personalities, preferences, and goals!

within every demon race there are horn variations so they dont all end up having same horn syndrome (like same face syndrome in art but with horns 👍)

empathy — most common variation are the ram horns, most rare are the inverse ram horns. empathy daemon's horns will always be small and will always be in the capridae family

sadism — most common variation are the gazelle horns, least common are the curved gazelle horns. sadism demon's horn will always be large and tall

shock — most common variation are the gemsbok horns, least common variation are the four-horned antelope horns. shock demon's horns will always be pointed straight up, as if in "shock"

inchoate — inchoates have multiple horn variations, so it is hard to pinpoint the rarity of each variant. the most common come down to the indian bison horns, bharal horns, and a set of "classic" demon horns with two smaller horns protruding from the base

fear — most common variation are the greater kudu horns, most rare the the blackbuck horns. sizes always vary, and horns will always be swirled in some way, with the exception of the unicorn horn varient

misery — most common variation are the tibetan argali horns, most rare are the bighorn sheep horns. misery demons' horns will always fall in the capridae family

elation — most common variation are the ibex horns, most rare are the red hartebeest horns. sizes can vary, but usually are medium

serenity — most common variation are horns that belong to an animal that are most likely related to bharals, most rare are the fallow antlers. serenity daemons, interestingly, have horn variations that belong to two separate families: caprinae and cervidae. while the cervidae antlers have more variation, the mysterious bharal-like horn variant is still the most common. serenity daemons are also the only daemon race outside of empathy daemons to have digigrade legs

strife — most common variant are the eland horns, most rare are the addax horns (which sometimes results in a strife demon being mistaken for a sadism or fear demon). a more uncommon yet well-known variation is the triple horn set

desire — similarly to inchoate demons, desire demons have a multitude of horn variations, the most common being the markhor horns and "classic" demon horns paired with a small set of ram horns

Colors I think the different d(a)emon types would be!

Empathy Daemons: Pastels and white

Serenity Daemons: Dark greens, blues, and maybe some purples

Sadism Demons: Dark reds and oranges

Desire Demons: pinks, purples, and magentas

Shock Demons: Bright oranges, yellows, and sometimes reds

Strife Demons: Deep and muted reds and blues

Misery Demons: Blacks and grays or muted colors

Fear Demons: bright or muted blues and purples

Elation Demons: pinks, reds and yellows

Inchoate Demons: can be any color but the color is always a medium tone

Avior and Starlight (Cillian) deserve some damn happiness:,)). A bit about them: - I decided to give D(a)emons horns based on subtype, with some being more unique than others, and Concubi/Inchoates having their horns based more upon which emotion they most displayed OR fed off. Avior specifically has horns which are very upward facing but not sharp, like an Elation Demon, as well as the animal antler qualities of Serenity Daemons <3. You will see more in coming posts. :P I just think it adds fun character. Also one of his horns is broken, due to his time in the Meridian. And while it's not visible yet, he has a second set of horns growing in, that would form around his head, almost like a Halo... hm. I wonder. Also his star marking is on his hand, and I imagine Starlight kisses it sometimes. <3 - Cillian (She/He) is Irish, and generally reserved, though quick to act in stressful situations. And I generally made her round but in a sharp way, because she is... sweet... but... also kind of impulsive. Also his eyes didn't used to be blue. They used to be Hazel, but since the Meridian incident they have become this blueish teal tone, with hints of pink throughout. He works as a library assistant in Dahlia's empowered universities, popping around from place to place as needed.

Sooo I was thinking about Gavin outliving freelancer because who doesn't like subjecting themselves to angst and I'm like...yknow what, let's make it end happy.

So awhile ago, I don't remember where, I read something about people being reborn as stars when they die. And what are d(a)emons all named after? So my mind went with, what if after a time, human souls are reborn as d(a)emons? Maybe it's just limited to empowered people. Maybe it's just a luck of the draw. Maybe after you die you get asked if you want to be reincarnated.

But imagine, years or decades or even centuries after Freelancer passed, Gavin comes across an Inchoate demon. And under the horns...is a face he never thought he'd see again. Hears the voice he yearned for all these years, spoken aloud and not just in his memories. The same eyes he was lost in so many years ago.

And sure, the Inchoate may not have the memories of their past life, but they still feel a connection to this incubus. So they get to know him. Grow to love him. And Gavin thanks the stars that he gets to fall in love with that wonderful soul all over again.

(And as a bonus. Imagine the two of them running into other d(a)emons that make Gavin’s heart ache in familiarity. A large, cuddly empathy daemon that gives the best hugs. A somewhat prickly sadism demon that has a heart of gold under thorns. A stuttering and shy serenity daemon who still manages to put people at ease with his ramblings.)

(And then imagine Caelum finally able to be with his family again and this time, three of them could actually see and speak and return the hugs he gave them)

~2,900,000,000 years ago: The Phoenix becomes Laplace’s demon. 

~??? years ago: The world is formed, and mortal civilization begins. 

~70,000 years ago: A prosperous ancient civilization runs a deficit on soul matter. Abominations created by Wardant attack the world. Megumi becomes Robomi and gets stuck in a hole. Kenji develops mommy issues and becomes a computer. 

~???? years ago: Otherworldly miasmas/beasts ruin the world, with a select few mortals able to escape to the moon.

~20,000 years ago: The dawn of lunarian civilization. First lunarian artifacts and ruins appear on the world.  It is unconfirmed if these are from before the moon escape, or if they are from lunarian colonists returning to the surface. 

~7,000 years ago: The Omnipotent comes to the world from another dimension (via lunarian interference?).  The Omnipotent takes the remaining uncorrupted land and lifts it into the sky, and seals the surface under a barrier, forming the Crimson Horizon and the Skyrealm.  The laws of physics change, with Wardant excluded from the Skyrealm.  Shalem and Shahar are created. The ancient people officially become Otherworlders.  The moon begins its war against an unspecified threat (the Crimson Horizon?).  True dragons probably start existing.

~6,000 years ago: The Phoenix and the Omnipotent fight.  Shalem gets put into a box, and Sahar goes into a coma for a few centuries.  Farhara dies, to be reincarnated in 6000 years.  Fenie goes zoom.  After thirty years, Abramelin splits the omnipotent in two, creating the sky god and the Astral god. Islands split up, creating a fractured world.  The Astral realm, along with all Astrals, is created. 

~2,000 years ago: The War begins, with Astrals invading the Skyrealm.  The first primal beasts are created, including Lucifer, the angels, and the origin beasts.  Primals are assigned to islands to control/experiment on the mortal races.  Cosmos was created in the Astral realm.  Lucilius incites the fallen angel war, causing Sandalphon and the fallen angels to be put into a box, and causing Lucifer to kill Lucilius.  Astaroth attempts a coup, gets killed by Lucifier, and Magus gets put into a box.  Cagliostro invents alchemy, and gets put into a different box.  Noa introduces airships to the world. 

~??? years ago: The Astral god creates the girl in blue and the sky god creates the red dragon as a snackbox swap service.

~??? years ago: The Jorha are founded, and proceed to commit unethical science.  The Revenant weapons are forged. 

~??? years ago: Mikaboshi builds a big rock. Her and her daughter get put into a box.

~1,000 years ago: Ninetails is created, eats a bunch of foxes, and gets put into a box. The Cardinal Saints begin their mission to pacify the cardinal beasts.

~500 years ago: The last primal beasts are created.  The Astrals decide to make high-power, high-independence angel-like primal beasts to fight in The War.  Said primal beasts, including Enyo, predictably rebel against the Astrals.  The War ends with almost every astral leaving the sky.  Abramelin and the Diviners first meet.  Baldr talks to Satyr and takes a nap.  Erste regrets politically allying with the Astrals.  The knights of Lumiel start to form.

~??? years ago: Cosmos and Lucifer start having coffee brunches.  Cosmos creates Geo and Zooey.

Between 100 and 0 years ago: The majority of mortal characters are born, and experience variably tragic backstories.

24 years ago: Farhara reincarnates as Sabrina.

~30ish years ago: Rein's sister is born, and gets kidnapped by the True King. Granjeet’s dad goes on an adventure with Rein, Rosetta, Walfrid, and Vyrn.  Lyria is found by them, and hidden in Phantagrande.

~15 years ago: Granjeet is born, their mom Rein "vanishes", and their dad ditches them for Estalucia.  Xing gets adopted by Granjeet’s dad after mass manslaughter.  War breaks out between Hibergreif and Albanorum, orphaning Arthur and Mordred.

~10 years ago: Granjeet gets a letter from dad.

~??? years ago: Lyria is found by Erste, and used as a test subject.

0 years ago: Katalina busts Lyria out of her box. All the events of gbf, gbf:versus, gbf: versus rising, and gbf:relink occur.

Mock Interview (A Redactedverse Oneshot)

Summary: After months of steady rejection, recent D.A.M.N. graduate Sweetheart is beginning to doubt that they’ll ever achieve their goal of being hired by the Department of Uniform Magical Practices. When a very articulate inchoate demon makes a mistake of feeding on Sweetheart’s emotions, both stealth and demon get the chance to exchange a few very important truths about personal identity, community, and how to reconcile those two concepts in a healthy way.

Or, Sweetheart performs some covert maintenance for the very first time and Avior is fascinated.
