hey i’m abby, its 2:30 am, and welcome to my hour long ted talk about my zora ocs whoops
under the cut i talk about my botw zora ocs cause i love them and i never get to talk about them so here
(please note i haven’t fully delved into the loz lore so if parts of their backstory doesn’t seem like it could match up then i’m sorry fjdkd i also have only played twilight princess so forgive me)
Mala:
Mala’s a Zora from out of the domain, who was placed in Hyrule by her late mother who had rushed her out of their ransacked, poacher infested village and hoped she’d find her way to the domain before fleeing; ultimately resulting in her death. Mala, being a scared and stubborn child, stayed on the beach she was placed and never made it to the domain, and by the time she was old enough to understand her mother’s wishes, she was too scared to present herself to such a large group after being alone so long.  In order to feel like she has a purpose, she takes aquatic mercenary jobs, like slaying monsters that plague parts of the waters the domain can’t reach, or even sometimes clearing the place out before the the domain’s reinforcements get there. Despite her large and intimidating size for a female Zora, she’s very docile and sweet, always ready to lend a hand.
Some facts:
- Is completely colorblind; only sees in white/black/grey hues.
- Has severe lightning scaring on her right arm and right side of her chest, due to grabbing a shock arrow in defense.
- Covered in scars from mercenary trips. A part of her lip is missing from bashing her face once on a rocky beach.
- Loves seaglass, despite not seeing their color, and decorates herself in them with pearls and opals. Likes their shine and texture.
- Is a Black Tip Reef shark (mothers side) and Megalodon shark (fathers side) mix, which explains her huge size.
Lorelei:
Lorelei is a domain resident who was quite conflicted in her past. Despite training to be part of the guard, she had also wanted to pursue her love of music. Eventually during her adult years, she decided to venture out of the domain, and nearly out of Hyrule, to seek further training in music (singing, instruments of all kind, you name it). However, she had been taken while out on her travels, and the poachers had taken her fins to sell. She barely made it out with her life, and resided with the Gerudo for some time out of fear. When she had made her way back to the domain, she had been wearing modified Gerudo clothing to hide away her scars, and her bubbly personality had gone. Paranoid and skittish, she refuses to talk about her travels to most people. Now handicapped in swimming, her hopes of being a skilled guard are now low and now seeks music as a comfort.
Some facts:
- Is a Dwarf Lionfish, which explains her smaller size.
- Even though her swimming skill is limited, shes still able to breathe underwater like a normal Zora.
- Excels at string instruments, like the lute. Can sing but is always bashful.
- Very nimble and acrobatic.
Kaimana:
Kai is actually the Zora version of Rosewood, a Hylian witch. Rosewood was able to figure out how to enchant masks that could alter ones entire body to the race they choose.
Some facts:
- Is a Fingered Dragonet.
- Very flashy.
- Bioluminescent!

Disability in Transformers essay excerpt: Bumblebee and the Erasure of Disability as “Growth”
Deciding to post a section of my essay I am working on which goes into detail about how disability could be handled better in media (particularly the transformers shows or movies while also touching on the fan favorites from the comics such as The Scavengers). This section is about Bumblebee.  Under the cut bc its long.
Tumblr media
This leads us to Bumblebee, the perfect example of erasing a character’s disability under the disguise of character development.  Though not an original characteristic of the character, Bee’s disabilities have become a staple of his character in both comics and tv.  Narratives surrounding Bumblebee since 2007 have all included Bee having a physical disability (Mutism in tv/movies and bad legs in comics).  These disabilities are often the product of injury, and we see Bee grapple with accepting his disability along with the trauma that comes with it.
While brought about in the Bayverse Movies, the concept of Bee being disabled was really first fleshed out in Transformers Prime 2010-2014. Bee is introduced in the first episode as the Autobot who does not speak in anything other than beeps.  This is a stark difference from every other bot in the show who speak English like humans-- and the show does not shy away from pointing out just how different Bumblebee is.  This is called attention to immediately when Bee is introduced and Raf is the only human who can understand him.
This form of “speaking” is not actually making any use of his voice box because it was ripped out by Megatron during Tyger Pax. Instead Bee uses a pretty limited voice modulator. This can be assumed to be like a Cybertronian version of a Passy-Muir Valve (commonly used to help patients speak/breathe more normally attached to a tube) in some ways because it is very likely Bee’s whole throat was damaged, not just his voice box. Bee also makes use of body language (eyes, wings, other movements) in his speech to show what he’s saying even when the viewer cannot understand him. It is obvious that Bee is used to having his impairments and has learned how to navigate social interaction with them.
Tumblr media
That being so it is not abnormal that Bumblebee’s arc in Transformers Prime Happens to be about his disability.  In Operation Bumblebee part 1 and 2 Bee loses his t-cog, the organ that allows transformers to transform.  This means Bee loses the ability to turn into a car, use his weapons, and effectively do his job as Team Prime’s scout.       This brings forth Bee’s backstory and PTSD- Ratchet kindly explains to Raf that a field medic (himself) tried his best to help Bee, saved his life, but probably could have done better.  Simply put this arc is about Bee and Ratchets shared trauma and the thought of not being “good enough” to be a part of their team (aka their family).
Ratchet coincides that he is willing to give up his OWN t-cog to allow Bee to transform while Bee constantly throws himself into more dire situations to prove his worthiness to not the team- but himself and in the process he almost destroys his own t-cog trying to reclaim it.  The arc ends with Ratchet managing to save Bee’s damaged t-cog and them both regaining a sense of self-worth.
This of course is all thrown away at the end of Transformers Prime when Bee is killed by Megatron, falls into the omega lock, and promptly comes back to life cured of all disability he ever had.  This is written as some kind of triumph scene for both him and Ratchet, but really all it does is make all their character development throughout the series devoid of any purpose.      Not to mention, this leads into TFRID15 where Bumblebee is shown as a leader. Implying that Bumblebee could not be a leader while still having a disability. Though, Prime is not the only media where Bee’s narrative is driven by his disability.
Tumblr media
In the movie, Bumblebee 2018, Bee’s voice box is ripped out by Blitzwing before being dropped from a great height- causing brain damage and memory loss.  This is the starting point of Bee on Earth and Bee as a character in the movie, where we finally start to see his character develop and be fleshed out.       Bee throughout the movie learns to cope with his disabilities through forming bonds and talk therapy via radio. We also see expression through body language instead of verbal communication. We even see the equivalent of a PTSD episode when Bee lashes out at the military for hurting Charlie.      At the end Bee thanks Charlie for giving him a “voice” though he did not get his voice box repaired, instead he is actually thanking her for helping him get through the trauma and feel like himself again. Bumblebee 2018 is a pretty good example of how Bee’s disability is an important part of his character.

This is all going under a read-more because it's long, general mild vent post:
I appreciate "checklist of things to make sure you do when you feel miserable" culture because it reminds me that I need to like, eat food. But just every so often, I *can't* complete everything on the list - I can't have a sleep, I'm working. I can't take a shower, my towels are still drying. I can't eat because it's morning and I'll feel queasy. I can't exercise in the ways I enjoy because my spine is currently trying to leave, and while you're supposed to "carry on normal activity" my normal activity is a desk job and a shitton of household chores which all involve either carrying a lot of stuff back and forth, or bending slightly at the waist for long periods because I'm too damn tall to do my own dishes, but that's a tangent for another vent post. Point is, ow.
And so that makes me feel like it's my own personal failing that I'm still upset? Or at the very least, like it's not my fault bur I just have to stick it out until I *can* do the things. Which is made worse by the fact that it's a 50/50 as to whether it'll help to begin with. Like if I've just woken up from a 10hr sleep and had a lovely breakfast and am now doing housework, and I still feel like all my friends hate me, what then???
It fills me with the same abject dread as doctors' lists of "Do all these things before we'll treat you", which is stupid because this is genuinely designed to help. This is "hi I'm just a random on the internet here's all the advice I have for things that make me better" and I'm grateful for people with lived experience putting these lists together. But it just reminds me so much of having to jump through hoops to get actual help with whatever is going on. Especially since, a lot of what's wrong with me is purely situational, made worse by something I am now gonna get some treatment for but is never going away (there is RSD here, let's leave immediately).
I had a point here and now it's gone but tl;dr it's wishful thinking I know but I just want like, for someone to fix my problems for me one time. I wish I had that power to do it for other people, and I'd love if someone could do it for me. But that's not how things work. :(

advice for young artists?
sorry for taking so long I wanted to reply properly fdsjghfsd.. I can only give so much advice bc Im also still young and not a professional but I hope this helps a little? I didnt kno if you wanted art advice in particular so this is really general but heyyo
Under a readmore so I dont spam also this is really wordy and not actually well worded so hmu if you need any of this explaining better
1 - get into the habit of carrying a sketchbook/paper with you. It doesnt really matter if you don’t draw in it all the time/every day but its nice to always have one around incase the mood strikes and it helps you get into the habit of drawing regularly (which makes drawing more fun in the long run!). I recommend getting a small one like A5 theyre easy to carry about and you can get them pretty cheap.
2 - fsgfdhsf this is literally the hardest thing to learn w/ art in my experience but: getting less precious about every drawing is good like. it doesnt matter if one or many drawings come out looking terrible because even if it doesnt feel like it you will have learnt something from it. terrible drawings are better than no drawings yakno??
3 - keep an eye on how other artists do things. art is just like ... hard tbh and everyone struggles/will have struggled to do especially difficult parts at one time or another and have found ways to work through it so other artists techniques are a good launch pad like?? if an artist you like breaks down the structure of the leg in a certain way, try using that technique and see if it works for you? the internet is good for that bc sometimes you can just literally ask them how they did it too
3.5 also looking at lots of art and looking at a lot of art critically helps to build your eye to your own art so youll get a good sense of what looks good and will see/be able to fix your mistakes better
4 - you dont have to draw fast to get good. uhhhhh this might seem insincere coming from me I guess but really its good to take your time with drawings esp when practicing you’ll learn a lot more from it. obviously this is difficult when youre drawing people/things out and about like above but if you have a chance to do some concentrated practice its very good
5 - style is like ... fake kinda.. most people dont actively look for a style afaik?? If you draw a lot and look at a lot of art youll pick one up naturally as you go
6 - if your art looks bad to you or if youre on a roll and suddenly you dont like your art that means youre improving!! If it looks wrong to you, it means your eye for what looks good/what needs fixing is getting better and if you keep practicing and trying new things eventually your technical abilities will start catching up
I hope this helps at all even tho its very general.. art is hard but anyone can do it I hope things go well for you anon!!

how did your bf react to you being non-binary? i'm a trans girl and i'm worried about getting into relationships incase the other person doesn't accept me for who i am.
sorry this is a bit longer than i thought it would be so im gonna put it under a readmore so its not annoying ahah
it needed some explaining because he’s straight and cis and hasn’t really encountered that before. he took what i said at face value and didnt ask for ‘proof’ or anything like that. he just asked what im more comfprtable with and how i feel and such. and he’s learning! he slipped up a few times and referred to me as a girl and didn’t fix himself only once, so he’s trying ;v; yesterday i asked him how he would react if, say, we made it work longterm, and if i eventually had top surgery or started hrt (because i was watching mr robot and rami malek shirtless made me dysphoric). he said that if i want pecs like rami malek im gonna have to work out and that he sure has a sexy top sdkfjdslaasdf. he takes me as i am i think, and i demand support, not just acceptance. and he understands that it is important to me because otherwise i won’t be able to trust him or feel safe. he never made me doubt him though.
i told him im mentally ill and not cis on the second week after i met him. i told him if im not what he wanted in a partner he should bail before either of us catches feelings. he stayed and supports me and when he doesnt know how to he asks. he helped me get thrpugh a pretty bad shutdown when i visited and keeps me company even if its just online when im extra lonely. the first time he said “i love you” was him going “im in lesbians with you” bless him.
i literally didnt expect that from a cishet white boy from a well off family ok. i was very sceptical going into this relationship for the same reasons youre anxious ;v; i literally always thought id end up dating someone not cis like me
what i got from it is that there are more people who will not only accept you but love and support you than you think!!!!!!!! even if they cant relate to what youre going through!!!! and they will do their best to help however they can!!!!the only advice i can give is be upfront and demand the support and respect you deserve, especially from someone you are/want to be close with. its the least they can do for you.
