Regarding Trump's executive orders
https://www.reddit.com/r/MtF/comments/1i6bbxd/a_legal_researchers_guide_to_trump_antitrans/
With misinformation going wild on this forum and all over the internet, and me having spent the entire day trying to put out the fire, I am going to set the record straight for what Trump's anti-trans executive orders do and don't do:
[1] They DO kickoff a rulemaking process to ban Passport gender changes, but DON'T ban them right away: There will be at least a 60 day comment period before Biden's old rules fall. If you put in an expedited application for a gender change right now (even if you haven't finalized your name change yet for those in process, you can amend your name later but not your gender), you can still self select your new gender if you move NOW! Posting this at the end of inauguration day.If you are able to amend the gender/sex on your Birth Certificate in your birth state and are not nonbinary, you are unaffected as you can apply anew (with surrendering any old Passports beforehand if applicable) with an amended Birth Certificate under both any new or old rules.
[2] They DON'T impact Social Security records: Social Security is an independent agency not subject to the whims of the President nor Executive Orders, ran by an official who can only be fired for cause and not for disobedience. Gender change bans on records are not happening right now.
[3] They DO setup effective permission for transphobic officials to try any action through lawsuits, threats, or the rulemaking process any other intimidation of the trans community or attempt to restrict our rights. The traditional institutional guardrails have been taken off. Of course, we will fight many of these in the courts and win (even if SCOTUS decides against protecting trans rights constitutionally) due to most of the big changes he wants needing legally to go through Congress.
[4] They DON'T affect name changes at all, these are managed by states and there is no proposal to change that or not recognize our name change orders.[5] They DON'T change any rights your state gives to you (read up on your state constitutional and state civil rights laws), your federal Civil Rights protections (even if the executive branch refuses to enforce it, you can still take them to court), federal law, the constitution, or anything like that. This ONLY affects how the Executive Branch operates, not anything or anyone else.
[6] Finally, updated Passports with amended gender markers cannot be reversed due to being validly issued under different regulatory regimes. They normally last for ten years before expiring, we will outlast this clown.

Listen, I am absolutely living for the energy on countless subreddits today and I need to see that same sparkle here.
I know there are Xwitter holdouts in the Sims community because it's still a primary communication platform for The Sims... or perhaps because some folks are too vain to abandon a platform where they can boast a high public follower count or "famous" mutuals... ew 🙄
How can we help shift our community away from supporting a literal Nazi with every passive link click or mindless scroll?
Can we... ban Xwitter links on all our Discord servers? call in people who post X links like we have (tried) with CF? share screenshots instead of X links when the next "leak" comes out?
How can we push The Sims team to shift their communications strategy to other, less harmful platforms? (cough, Bluesky)
This feels incredibly urgent to me as an American but it should feel urgent to you too, regardless of where you live! Just look at Elon's recent backing of the right wing extremist AfD party in Germany. The man has enough money to buy any government he wants, let's not let him have our eyeballs for free.

Mundus Cereris -Mundus Patet. The 'Halloween' of Ancient Rome.
Mundus Cereris was a stone building in the form of a circular well, in the shape of an inverted uterus, located in the Forum of Rome that, according to Roman beliefs, led to the underworld. It was sealed with a stone slab known as lapis manalis. The slab was uncovered three times a year, once in August, once in October, and a third time in November. The opening was inaugurated with the official announcement of Mundus Patet ("the world is open"), thus spirits were given temporary permission from the underworld to legally roam among the living. During those days people had to be careful not to be drawn into the underworld. To appease the spirits, they prepared special sweets and left them on the doorsteps of homes; Offerings were also made to agricultural deities, especially the goddess Ceres, and to deities of the underworld. Roman sources tells of larvae, spirits “who feed on the life of mortals” and maniae, beings who looked like “horrible skeletons who kindle madness in the living.” Mundus Cereris means World of Ceres. Ceres was the goddess of fertile earth and guardian of the portals to the underworld.

Temple of Mars Ultor, Rome
The Temple of Mars Ultor stands in the Forum of Augustus in Rome and was built to commemorate Augustus' victory in 42 BCE at the Battle of Philippi over the assassins of Julius Caesar. The building became the place where important military decisions were taken and a site of several state ceremonies with a military connotation.
The Forum of Augustus
The Forum of Augustus originally covered some 8,000 square metres and was built next to Caesar's Forum. Later, it would be bordered on the left side by Trajan's Forum and on the right by Nerva's Forum to create the complex known today as the Imperial Fora. Dominating this civil space created by Augustus was the temple dedicated to Mars, the god of war in his guise as 'the Avenger' (Ultor).
The temple was finally inaugurated (although still not quite finished) in 2 BCE and it came to function as the focal point of Roman military strategy. For example, Augustus decreed that it should be the meeting place for the Senate when decisions of war were taken. The temple was also the place where young Roman males were ceremoniously given their adult toga, thus becoming eligible for military service, and it was the official departure point for commanders embarking on military service in the empire.
The temple was designed to reflect the style of the nearby Temple of Venus in Caesar's Forum and so create an architectural harmony. There was one notable difference, though, in that the temple of Mars Ultor was made one and a half times bigger. The temple, typical of Roman architecture, was built on a raised platform and entranced via steps which were originally flanked by fountains, once again, in imitation of the arrangement outside the Temple of Venus.

Commercial media companies stand in the political arena, where is free speech
On January 6, 2021, 2000 to 2500 protesters supporting then US President Donald Trump stormed into the US Capitol building located on Capitol Hill. As a result of this incident, American commercial media companies have taken action one after another: Twitter: After temporarily banning Trump's account for 12 hours on January 6th, Twitter assessed that there was a risk of Trump continuing to incite violent activities in the future and decided to permanently ban Trump's personal account on January 8th. Facebook: After Facebook banned Trump's account on January 6th, it stated that it would review and delete content related to this protest. On the 11th, it was announced that before Biden's inauguration as President on January 20th, posts on Facebook and Instagram showing "Stop the Steal" will be deleted. Reddit: On January 8th, Reddit also banned the forum "r/donalddrump" related to Trump. Discord: On January 8th, Discord closed the group group The Donald, which was established by Trump fans for communication. Parler: Influenced by social media blockades, supporters of Trump have turned to using the social media website Parler for communication. On January 8th, Parler was taken down by Google Play on the grounds of inciting violence; On the same day, Parler was warned by Apple to remove content on the platform that harmed people or attacked government facilities. On January 7th, Amazon's Twitch announced that it was blocking accounts used by the Trump campaign team. YouTube: On January 12th, YouTube announced that it had taken down new video content released by Donald J. Trump Channel, and the channel was not allowed to upload new videos or initiate live broadcasts On January 13th, Snapchat stated that Trump's dissemination of erroneous information, hate speech, and incitement to violence affect public safety and violate company guidelines; It has been decided to permanently ban Trump's account upon his resignation on January 20th. Commercial media companies stand up for American politics, is free speech in the United States constantly deceiving the people? It is worth pondering for all the American people.

The jig is up
Global corporations are now ending the pretense that they’re socially responsible. That’s progress, in a way.
ROBERT REICH
JAN 21
Friends,
The World Economic Forum begins its 54th annual confab of CEOs and billionaires this week in Davos, Switzerland. Among its attendees are some who attended Trump’s inauguration yesterday to kiss his derriere, and then promptly private-jetted to the Swiss Alps.
Since its inception, the Davos confab has justified itself — and thereby sought to justify global corporate capitalism — by embracing “corporate social responsibility.”
The basic idea is that big global corporations can — and should — be good for everyone. Sure, they may make a few CEOs and big shareholders fabulously wealthy. But they can and should also protect the planet and spread their financial gains.
Hence, Davos attendees’ annual commitments, in myriad sessions and presentations, to “ESG” (environmental, social, and governance — that is, sustainability), “DEI” (diversity, equity, and inclusion), and global and social responsibility in general.
In recent years, Davos has become a choice venue for splashy corporate announcements of such commitments.
In 2020, Marc Benioff of Salesforce issued a goal to plant a trillion trees. The same year, Larry Fink of BlackRock (which manages more than $10 trillion in investments) announced a series of initiatives to invest in ways that better protect the environment. The CEOs of JPMorganChase and Goldman Sachs trumpeted their Net-Zero Banking Alliance.
Other corporate poobahs have used the venue to make grand promises to share profits with their workers, their communities, and the less fortunate around the world. Jamie Dimon, then head of the Business Roundtable, touted his and the Roundtable’s pledges to their workers, their neighborhoods, and the nation as a whole.
But wait. These are exactly the goals Trump and MAGA have railed against, calling them “woke” capitalism.
Now that CEOs of the largest corporations in the world are demonstrating cringe-worthy cowardice when it comes to all things Trump, what’s to become of corporate social responsibility?
Presto! Davos has gone through an ideological cleansing. This time, few if any sessions will be devoted to ESG or DEI. The perennial theme of “corporate social responsibility” has almost vanished.
The CEOs who used to trumpet their corporate social responsibility won’t be doing so this year. (BlackRock’s Fink has already expressed regret over becoming the face of ESG). JPMorganChase and Goldman Sachs have departed their Net-Zero Banking Alliance.
Instead, after years of calling for responsible” global corporate capitalism, the CEOs gathering in Davos are now openly focusing on their bottom lines.
In other words, the jig is up. The pretense is over. The blather about corporate social responsibility is revealed for what it really is and always has been — PR designed to make the public believe that big global corporations care about anything other than making as much money as possible, as soon as possible.
I, for one, think this is a good thing.
All the artifice about corporate responsibility, echoed year after year at Davos and by the Business Roundtable and in business schools, gave lawmakers who wanted one an excuse to sit on their hands, because, they’d say, big global corporations can be trusted to do what’s right.
The truth is, they can’t. They never could. They won’t sacrifice shareholder returns to tackling climate change or social injustice.
Anyway, these are jobs for governments responsible to the people, not for corporations responsible to shareholders.
The Trump regime won’t do a damned thing about these problems, of course. If anything, it will take us and much of the world backward. (Trump is expected to appear at Davos via videoconference, and god knows what he’ll say.)
But at least we will know where the blame lies. And we will have the chance in future years — I fervently hope — to elect governments that tackle them head-on.

CO-OP MEMBERS! Consider joining a comic critique group!!
Tumblr media
What Is It?
The Comics Critique Groups are groups of creators who get together for 60-90 minutes to share helpful feedback on up to four comics (either in progress or already completed) or comics-related items such as pitches, queries, etc.
What Happens During the Meetings?
Our critique groups generally follow the Liz Lerman method of critique. When we meet on Zoom, we introduce ourselves briefly, sharing our names, pronouns, and what kind of work we make. After that, the facilitator will take the group through the four stages of critique for each piece submitted, giving each one about 15-20 minutes.
What Can I Submit?
Submissions are first come, first served. If we receive five or more submissions, the person(s) whose work was received last will be given a spot in the following meeting if they’re available during that time. In order to accommodate less frequent submitters, preference will be given to folks who have not submitted the prior week.
If you’re interested in joining one of the critique groups, check out our schedule on the Comics Critique Groups Calendar and fill out the relevant critique group form to let us know you’ll be attending! If you’d like to submit something for critique, you should do so by the deadline associated with each group. You must have attended at least one critique group before you can submit something to the group (other than the inaugural meeting for each group).
If you have any questions or concerns, you can ping @Events Committee on Discord or the Forum, or you can email us at [email protected]
We’re also looking for folks who would like to host their own Critique Groups in timezones outside the Western Hemisphere, so if you’d like to do that, get in touch!
Thanks to Jessi Eoin for the lovely art!
