Concept: Finarfin is exhausted after the War of Wrath. He goes with his family after Alqualonde and all the ties between him and his wife and law-family are cut. He turns back and does much the same to his Noldor family. He spends centuries trying, desperately, to keep whatever is left of the Noldor in Tirion together, even though it doesn't really work, and reaching out to his family– his wife– the Valar– none of whom seem interested in listening. And then, he finally goes to Beleriand, sees only the horrible, bloody end of it, fights a war against a mad god for decades, and then goes home. With none of his children.
Before the War of Wrath, Finarfin was at least capable of masking his problems, but afterwards, it's clear that he's heading towards some sort of nervous breakdown. He stops talking with basically everyone, sleeps and eats far less than he should, and spends more and more time in his study, pacing and muttering to himself. Eventually, Finrod manages to convince his father that he needs help– that he should go rest in Lorien and recover from the stresses of the First Age. That things won't fall apart if he leaves for a bit.
Though Finarfin is nervous– and isn't he always, these days?– he still has faith in the Valar, and so he goes to Lorien. And it is nice there, nicer than he could've imagined. He is able to relax in the gardens, in a way he hasn't been able to since the Two Trees still shone over Valinor. It is so nice there, and so peaceful. It's so easy to let his worries and cares drift away, to rest, and to sleep. It's so, unimaginably nice there. Really, he's glad he came, and he's starting to feel better. How could he not, in such a wonderful place? How could he not, when his nightmares and visions have been replaced with such wonderful dreams?
(In the gardens of Lorien, an empty body sits under a tree, surrounded by flowers, lost in an endless dream. It is not Miriel.)

Obscure Tolkien Blorbo: Round 1
Finduilas of Dol Amroth vs Findis
Finduilas of Dol Amroth:
Wife of Denethor and mother of Boromir and Faramir.
Another tragic fridged mother :( she should never have left the seashore
Findis:
The elder daughter of Finwë and Indis. She stayed behind in Aman during the Flight of the Noldor.
Findis! The oldest responsible sibling is very relatable, she probably has had to deal with so much bullshit and I feel that. She was given her parents ship name as a name. She stayed in Valinor with her mother and Finarfin, which was smart. We don’t know much about her, but I love some of the headcanons people have come up with about her personality. Findis stayed sane when having to deal with her crazy brothers and sister. Tired responsible eldest (of Indis’ kids) sibling for the win. Love her

finrod + 12 >_>
LOOOOOL um I mean I find it very hard to resist fanon standard of dripping-bling peacock Finrod, although I don’t imagine him as like, EXCEPTIONALLY gaudy relative to any other Noldor prince—I tend to picture the distinction as more like, where a lot of the other Noldor royalty wear mainly jewelry they’ve made, Finrod is always leaning on that Teleri (?) thing of like… networking BY accepting gifts……. jewels on the shore… jewels in plastic bags in the fridge because the Noldor won’t stop giving you jewels… I kind of also imagine him with a very judgmental eye for What’s Beautiful that’s as much trained as it is innate, like, it’s his job as king to evaluate fairly and duly love his followers’ works of craft or some shit. Hence also hauling art across the ice + suspicion that it’s only more important once some of the makers are dead
(Uhhhh insert dumb interlude here about how much I love the abandoned treasure in Nargothrond. and the weird simultaneous sense that Finrod doesn’t think anything is going to last for longer than it took to build, in Beleriand, but, like, that doesn’t mean you STOP DIGGING. or stop hoarding. etc.)
Though that doesn’t mean the reaction isn’t impulsive/eager too. He’s a dragon. My headcanon is he’s a dragon. Moving on: I also wonder a lot about the ring of Barahir, which tolkienwiki lists as made in Valinor but of which the Silm just says, “the green jewels gleamed there that the Noldor had devised inValinor.” So they’re artificial gems, but the origin of the ring itself is unclear, as far as I can tell. I’m not against it being made in Valinor, I like sad scenarios where Finarfin gave it to Finrod before turning back, but I’m also interested in the idea that this is one piece of jewelry Finrod did make himself and made in Beleriand in defiant “honor” of his dad, cf changing the name to Finarfin after Fingolfin’s death. I guess I just like picturing it as one of the first rings made not in the forges of Valinor, yk, and accordingly a little cruddy. Plus then w/ the jewels I can pretend he melted something else down to make it, the idiot. I’d act here like it’s surprising that I have elaborate countertextual ring of Barahir narratives stored in my heart, but,
This is already long so I’m just going to add Earendil + driving. My driving headcanon for Earendil is that Vingilot is, idk, buffeted by spacewind so driving it is DIFFICULT, but Elwing still thinks his air of relaxation when he comes home and makes her row is. Excessive.
