#this just in: moving to another continent to live and work with complete strangers for six months#incredibly distant from every important person in your life and your supportive community#is in fact. incredibly difficult.#like idk it's hard to describe because it's also been amazingly cool and i'm so thankful i get to do this#and like i can see God's hand in so many things that have happened and are happening#and He's providing what i need in such amazing ways#but also i'm exhausted and really really homesick#and i miss my people#and i miss going to chapel at school#and honestly just attending church in a language i understand#and rn i'm dealing with a crisis at least every day about what i'm going to do with the rest of my life#and long distance dating is really hard and need i reiterate i am exhausted and when i get tired and sad i self isolate. which is unhelpful#and generally i'm in that weird state of being where i genuinely have no clue how to persevere and i feel deeply deeply out of my depth#and also God is just. so present.#tbh i'm terrified that the rest of my life is just going to be Like This#and i'm also terrified that the rest of my life is not going to be Like This#because the last 5ish years have been Like This to varying degrees and i've learned and grown so much and i've come to know God so much mor#but i'm so tired.#and i'm tired of getting up every day and dealing with things that are scary.#but i'm scared of a life where i don't because i'm most scared of stagnating#anyway wow congrats if you made it this far into my venting#on the bright side yesterday i experienced one of the weirder (in a good way) social situations i've ever been in#walked into my language learning partner's mother-in-law's house (who i'd never met before) at 10pm and was instantly given two plates#of beautiful homemade (culturally appropriate dumplings) and a cup of tea#and proceeded to stay for 40min listening to a conversation where i understood about 3 words out of every 50#couldn't have experiences like that if i stayed in my comfort zone could i

I have reached a zen state when it comes to the coming administration because I know that the majority did not vote for that motherfucker and when things get really bad a bunch of people that did--the low information ones who voted for him on looking "like you can sit down and have a beer with him" or what have you--are going to turn on him.
And taking a moment to really think about it, the US is too enormous to be ran effectively as an authoritarian state. There are far too many people, it's far too large, and making an enormous chunk of these people go hungry is calling for disaster. People can only take so much and when you anger and frustrate potentially hundreds of millions of people you are asking for their wrath to visit vengeance upon you. It doesn't matter if you control the military at that point--particularly if a large chunk of the military does not want anything to do with you and would rather not listen to the ridiculous and cruel orders you give them.
Rely on loyalists all you want. You are building an incredibly delicate thing that is fit to crumble under the weight of a space that's far too broad to manage at the level it needs to be for things to remain as you want them to. This place will collapse in upon itself as your administration cannibalizes one another. Whenever it will be you will fail--and you will get what you deserve, a vacuum left in your wake.
#Either that or everyone is too self-absorbed and stupid to carry out these plans effectively#We can only hope that they struggle their asses off trying to get anything done for a number of potentially hilarious reasons#That would be for the best--rather than a volatile collapse#Still--if they succeed it likely won't be for very long. America is not the size of Europe and Russia's population is relatively small and concentrated#There is China of course--but the situation there is different for a whole host of reasons#It'd take the US a hell of a lot of time to reach that sort of state and in the meantime people would raise hell. It's too cosmopolitan#it's too non-homogenous with areas that are extremely varied in population#And these sorts of things rely on high homogeny to drive things forward#Perhaps I'm being too hopeful. But I simply cannot imagine this sort of thing working for long at all#It's illogical to me. #maybe ill elaborate later#but it's a mix of#i already suffered enough irrelevant bs classes when completing my degrees while out of the window maths!#and that sounds the same#and also we're working with limited TIME resources#i can't say that a majority of students graduating have a somewhat firm grasp of the fundamentals#and their critical thinking skills vary wildly#and they get already their employability seminars and gazillion BCS-mandated project reports/presentations as non-disciplinary time eaters#GAZILLION#also lots of the poor sods work part-time#is there a sizeable chunk of the population that talk to the media???#not saying media training is categorically useless but idk dont vibe with the quoted statement (maybe im wrong but idk)#cast STEM ppl with bad ai opinions to the shadow realm also
